like to call the meeting the Tuscross Valley Education Board of Education meeting to order. Please call the role. >> You got to appoint >> Oh, I mean, yeah. Appoint. Um, at this time, I'd like to appoint Mr. Fischer as treasurer promp at the absence of treasurer Mark Phillips. Now, please call the role. >> Mr. Fischer is present. Mrs. Green, >> present. >> Mr. Overton, present. Mrs. Tali >> present >> and Murer >> present. Will you please stand for the pledge of allegiance followed by the invocation with Mr. Oberton. >> I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all. >> Heavenly Father, again we thank you for just giving us the opportunity to come
together to better our school. Lord, we just pray that you would put a hedge of protection on our activity staffs and families this holiday season as we go to our Christmas breaks. And uh Lord, just let us all remember that you are the reason for the season. We thank you for it in Jesus name. Amen. >> Amen. Item number two and three or two is our declarations uh followed by item number three public participation and I believe no partic tonight. >> Moving on to item number four. Um we'd like to have our student representative report. >> So tonight So yeah so tonight Yes. >> So tonight we have cheerleaders under the direction of Mrs. Katie Spanel. Good evening everyone. My name is Katie Spinel. I teach first grade here at Tusky Valley and I'm also
the head cheerleading coach. Um I have 18 years of cheerleading experience including um cheering at the D1 uh school high university. And this is also my 10th year of coaching total. This is my third year at Tusky Valley. So, I just like to take a minute to brag about my cheerleaders. Um, this is not all of them. We have a lot in choir and in speech and other extraur extracurriculars. Um, and that's where they are tonight. So, I just want to take a moment to brag about how incredible they are. Um, so we currently have a team of 17 on our high school. 15 of those 17 cheerleaders also compete on either one or both of our competitive teams. All 17 are extremely dedicated. They practice three times a week cheering at games and on
most weekends you'll find them at games or cheerleading competitions. What makes them even more impressive is how involved they are outside of cheerleading. Our athletes participate in speech, theater, pep club, volleyball, choir, track. They even hold jobs and juggle many other activities. Despite that full plate, they ended the first nine weeks with an amazing team GPA of 3.65. We also have two seniors preparing to sign to cheer at the next level. This uh where they'll be earning both athletic and academic scholarships. It's important to note that these opportunities came because of the competitive cheerleading teams. College coach coaches discovered them at competitions. They watched them perform, seeing them their skill and re recognizing their potential. We are incredibly proud of them. This season, our program hosted a cheerleading competition right here at Tusky Valley. This
was our team fundraiser. We welcomed over 20 school districts and our team earned earned over $10,000 that was profited after we paid our bills from it. Our booster club ran our concession stand and they profited over $7,000. What's really exciting is that these funds were raised largely from people outside of our community. So, this was truly a win for all of our athletes, families, and our school. We couldn't have done it without the help and support of all of our admin, all of our middle school and high school cheerleaders, and of course, their families. We're now gearing up for our IVC cheerleading competition. It is on January 17th at Strawburg High School. We hope to see you there supporting our athletes. We will be competing at middle school and then two of our high school
competitive teams. So before I wrap up, our program is working very hard to build stronger fan interaction at all of our games. We've started some new tradition cheers that we perform at every football and basketball tonight. So tonight, our cheerleaders are going to teach you one of them. >> This is the cheer. It'll be quick, I promise. >> This is the cheer that you will see uh before the start of the third quarter at every football game. And between the third and fourth quarter of every basketball game, we call this cheer red yell red. Um, and we have a sign and our cheerleaders are going to teach you the words for it. Um, so when you come to games, you're able to yell with us and um hopefully be loud and supporting our teams on
the field or on the court. Uh, so before we get into that, I just want to say thank you for this opportunity to show off our kids and athletes. Um, and we hope to see you in the stands loud and proud cheering along with us. So, go ahead. You've got this. So, this is Gabby. She's one of our seniors. I call her the game day queen because she is very loud. Um, and she's very tight with her signs and she does an excellent job of getting others to yell with us. So, Gabby is going to be in charge of our sign. So, kind of the rule of the sign is whenever you see this at this level, that means you're getting ready to say that word. Whenever it goes up high, that's when you're supposed
to say the word. So, um, we have red on this side and then on the other side is black. So, go ahead and go. >> I think we need a couple of you to come help us. >> They're going to they're coming out. >> So, it's not just us yelling. Good. Okay. You guys can do the They'll do the motions. You guys follow along with Gabby with the >> Come on, Mrs. Johnson. You were a cheerleader. >> Cheerleader. >> Okay, I got a set. Red, red, YELLOW, RED, BLACK, BLACK, YELLOW, BLACK, RED, BLACK, RED, YELLOW, BLACK, >> RED, RED, YELLOW, RED, RED, BLACK, YELLOW, BLACK, BLACK, RED, BLACK, RED, BLACK, RED, RED, YELLOW, RED, RED, BLACK, BLACK, BLACK, BLACK, RED, >> RED, BLACK, >> BLACK, RED, >> RED, BLACK, BLACK. >> YAY. >> ALL RIGHT.
>> I'M IMPRESSED that none of us yelled it until you LIFTED IT. WE >> THAT WAS GOOD. YOU FOLLOWED DIRECTIONS. That was good. >> All right. Thank you again, guys. >> Thank you. Thank you so much for coming. >> All right. Now item number five, leadership teams reports. Mr. Phillips in position >> in ready. Okay. I would invite Bri to come back up. Oh, there she is. Um, so we only have one student of the month here today, but we have obviously a good one. And if you haven't been able to tell, Bri is part of the cheerleading squad. So Bri Stoer is our fine art fine artist of the month. She is a senior and the daughter of Nick and Leah Stzer and her activities at school obviously include cheerleading and she's also part
of the yearbook. Um she enjoys hanging out with her friends, working and painting and after graduation she plans to go to um school to be uh cosmetology school. SO CONGRATULATIONS >> and now I have to come up here. until I get this thing to work. >> Thank you. >> Congratulations. I didn't think about it. We could have organized something. That would have been pretty fun. >> And all your classmates there. That's never happened before. >> No, this is the best support system ever had here. Do >> you want me to go on? >> Oh, yeah. Go ahead. I'm sorry. Go ahead. Item number two. >> Yep. >> Talk about >> um so the uh registration guide I'm just going to give a quick um like there's just a couple kind of bigger changes. things don't
always change too much, but one of the things that we um we're working on this year is um coming up with some offerings to help fill our students schedules, keep them at Tusky Valley so they're not um our goal I I like CCP, but I want our kids to be at Tusky Valley as well. So, we were trying to come up with different uh options that they could take that would be interesting, maybe rebranding some of our classes. Um and one of the things we focused on were semester classes. Um, so we talked about the classes being not connected to a program. So they're kind of standalone. So you could have never done anything before and you can go into painting 101 um or science of cooking, bottom, like these are different ones. And so
what we did, we talked to our staff and we asked them to come up with things that they already may teach or a branch of what they teach and that could be uh done in a semester that's would be engaging, exciting, um something for kids to um to get a little bit of experience and see if they like it. And then we did that. We ended up with about I don't know maybe about 50 choices. We then went through those, took a couple of them out because they were redundant with other teachers. So, we kind of pushed them together. Um, or logistically, I just knew there was no chance. Like, auto mechanics is really good, but we're not going to add a garage to do that in, so it wasn't an option. Um, and then
we put that out to a survey probably three weeks ago to all the students. So, we had about 500 students participate in the survey and it kind of ranked those selections um of of their interest. And so just a couple of them that that were very high. Digital photography had 126 people put that as a um option of interest. Drone racing and certification was 101. Zoologology, which I thought was interesting. Um had 100 students. And then it went all the way down um to one of them only got six votes out of 500 um students. So 500 students could vote up to five times. I think we I think we came up with 1,900 votes um during the survey. So, out of those, these are the numbers. And so, we took that, we then put
them into the registration guide. Um, a couple other things that we did that that were not on the survey or or maybe they were on the survey, but they're definitely in the registration guide. Um, adding contemporary world issues as an option um to um replace world studies as a freshman. So, you could take world studies or you can take contemporary world issues and they both count for that social studies credit. um adding possibly CCP American history, CCP business uh finance and I think is the one we're going to do. So we so we added some of those to the registration and and they're going to be registering now for the next week or so and then we'll see what happens. >> So all these classes elective classes or some of them would count toward credits
for whether social studies or math or whatever. So everything elective wise they were just electives. Everything on that um the students did on their survey were electives. We've also added a couple others like the contemporary world issues would replace world studies which is a credit. >> Okay. >> So that's one of the world studies credits. The rest of them don't take don't satisfy a credit. Well that's not true. Ceramics and painting if you did ceramics one semester and painting another semester that would fulfill your fine arts credit. >> Okay. So, but for the most part, like the core things, it does not fulfill that. >> If if you look at the draft course registration guide that I sent out, you'll see yellow highlights. Uh, anything that's yellow highlighted really is is a standout that that's
something new that's been adjusted there. So, you'll see there's no course number yet. It's waiting for approval. Uh, and then they'll put it into the system. Um, and it'll be assigned a course code uh for reporting to the state and for teacher lure to make sure that we have the correct teachers attached to those courses. and and one of the big ones that we kind of focused on um I guess we didn't focus on but we definitely added in we added a few classes were was under the FFA program a number of students that obviously we have a a really strong 4 program in our area kids that go to the fair and do that kind of stuff and um honestly it Maggie Hamilton has I bothered me enough I think that's part of it
like she's was very adamant we need to consider it and and Dr. Dr. Vans and I've talked about it for a couple of years, ways uh some things that we could do to implement some of that and the numbers for the students that were interested in were pretty nice. So hopefully a lot of them get to sign up and see what happens. So great job. >> Thank you, Mr. Phillips. >> Item number six, superintendent report. Dr. Veransky. >> All right. Well, thanks, Mrs. Barer. I'm going to turn everything over to Reno from the Ohio School Board Association tonight uh who's going to talk about some successes of the board and some of our members. I also just want to publicly recognize and welcome uh Mr. Dick Gooding and Mrs. Katie Johnson back, former uh members
of the board. Uh so, as you hear about the successes tonight, uh they they played a role in that. So, we wanted you guys to be here and thank you for thank you for being here. >> Thank you. I don't have a chair. >> Oh, >> but I would cheer for this board in this school district. They've been coming down for what about 10 years and I've never seen a board and administration work together as a team. So, and that's a credit to all the board members and administration and past administrators. Um, I don't get the chance to always walk into a board meeting and it's friendly between the five people standing up there. So, one, I want to thank you for that and all the good things that you do for the students here
at Tusky Valley. Um, the the board I'm going to pres uh represent to the uh board is called the board of distinction. Now that it's almost impossible to earn this award. You need five board members to work as a team and they have there's mandated uh point system that they have certain things that they have to do like um making new board members feel well during orientation uh revising the policy book, revising your student handbooks, uh being part of a strategic plan. Then there's another point system that they have to attend a lot of continuing education spring and fall conferences, state legislative conferences, OSBA capital conference. They have to be part of what's called the star award uh earning the training, the aptitude, the recognition and all that. And all five board members have to
be active. To show you how rare this is, um I think there's over 700 school boards in Ohio. If you add the 611 public schools, JVS's and ESC's, it comes out over about 700. Only five won this award statewide. And when they started giving out the award a couple years ago, Tusky Valley won it then, too. And I think there's only two one or two that won it statewide a couple years ago. Am I right? Yeah. >> It was like that. They were honored down at Capitol Conference. Uh it was my honor to represent them the plaque that they that they honored. And and as a on a personal note because I don't get to do this much in my region because we don't get many boards that earn this. I want to thank you
guys just for the services and the past service that you've done. It is not easy being a school board member. Um it's time away from your family. It's um every couple weeks you got to be somewhere. You probably all are on some type of school committee. You're active here in the school and it's a wear and tear on that. We know that. We want to thank you and we also want to thank your families um because you're sharing your families are sharing you with the school district and JVS if you're on the JVS. So on behalf of the house school association northeast region once again congratulations on the board of distinction. >> Oh you I'll take it or someone else. >> No Katie and Dick all of us come up here >> for the picture.
Yes. I I just want to add that had these two not done their job when they were board members, we would not have been able to do it as a team because we had two come on very quickly. But they stood stood up and did things right away. Became very active. And then you guys, we we achieved 900 points out of the 600 points between all of us. That's how active and how wonderful. Madam President, you want to hold and you >> I thought we'd get a cheer. Go team. I'll come back. Okay. Wow, that's a good red and black picture. >> Thank you. >> Shake your hand. before I leave. >> Sit down, Sally. >> All right. >> The next award is almost impossible. You are nominated by your peers. There are over 3,400
board members in Ohio, approaching 3,500 board members. Only five can be selected to call the all Ohio school board. Each region gets to select one. The criteria is you have to be a master board member, a current master board member. So that that takes the field in the region down to 20. Unanimously in the Northeast region, we picked Sally B. I've gotten to know Sally now for god over 10 years. I was a lonely guy at my booth down there at Capitol Conference looking for someone from Tuscores Valley. God, I I need somebody to help me in Tuscaris Valley. Here comes Sally. She approaches. She goes, "Hi, my name is Sally Green. I would like to get more involved with OSBA." Well, how little did I know that she was a rising star. Not only
did she get involved, she was a bundle of energy. If you know Sally, um she attended everything. She helped me out with spring and fall conferences. She took pictures. She helped with PowerPoint. She traveled, I think, almost every county in Ohio to visit the public schools. >> Everyone, 88 counties. >> I don't think we've ever had a board member that dedicated. And there and we've had dedicated board members, don't kid yourself, but not that dedicated. And she was unanimous selection for us in Northeast Region to nominate her to be our representative for the all Ohio school board. And Sally, as a friend, I can't thank you enough either. I mean, I'm being seriously you you've just been a great friend and a bundle of energy for me and she keeps me on my toes and
she keeps me right at the northeast regional manager and I love her. So, Sally, congratulations. >> She keep she keeps us on our toes too, Reno. >> That's why we say everybody needs a Sally on their board. >> Everybody needs a >> She's very motiv motivational. >> My husband would say bossy. Well, we should >> We should We definitely have to thank your husband for serving you. >> Can you send it to Sally, please? >> All right, I am finished. >> I know there's a concert, so if you guys would like to go to that, you're free to leave. Um, we just have a little bit of business to do left, but I know there's a concert going on, and I don't want you to miss your friends. Bye >> to see you because everyone's
gonna leave except he knows how >> everybody because I know something if there wasn't >> I'm not I'm here to >> Well, being that I knew there was something important going on, I felt it was appropriate to excuse people. Um, just let me get back to where I am here. >> I think I'm on >> concept board member report. >> Sorry. >> All right. Item number seven, board member report. Um, the first item a is uh for us to kind of talk about capital conference. Um I'm gonna you know Capitol Conference is a great um event that we go to an opportunity for us to learn new things and um just want to share from me like we all have experience if anybody has something they really wants to share. I know we're um short
on time but uh I just appreciate being able to learn new things and bring it here. And I'm going to say this publicly that a lot of things that I go see I'm very excited about because Tusky Valley is already implementing or we're starting it. So it's it's it's wonderful. That's my opinion on it. It's wonderful to go to these things and be like, "Hey, we're doing that, too." You know? So, um so it's just refreshing a lot of things that we're doing for me. Anybody else want to just say about something that you did? >> I just thank the school for always sending us down there, too, because you know it's nice to be able to go and not have to worry about anything like that to be able to learn different things. Um,
some of the things I went to just real quickly, it was like Amy's saying, it's you get there and you realize we are implementing a lot of these different things. Um, I went to one called reimagining education through co-curricular inquiry and I was like, that sounded kind of cool. So, I was going through and I made a bunch of notes and I thought, oh, wow, these are some really good things. We should maybe implement this at Tusky Valley. So, I got with Jason afterwards and he's like, "Yeah, we do most of that already." I'm like, "Okay." Um, but I got some really cool little takeaways there and you know, if anybody wants to learn more about it, you're welcome to get with me and I can share those. I know I've shared with you guys
while we were there on a lot of things. So, >> anybody else want to say anything? >> I did a lot of governance ones and one of the governance ones was about how to um do your orientation. and we do a lot of things well, but there's a couple things that uh Amy and I will be talking about before January to make sure that we implement a couple things that we're just maybe a little slack in. So, um that was good to learn about. And then I went to one about federal advocacy and how we can work better um advocating for our school systems both at the state level and the federal level, which is what I really try to function with and focus on right now. Um and um I found that engaging. >>
How about our new members? >> Um, I went to a lot of financial classes, um, which was just really emphasizing that we need to advocate for our public schools, um, that the state needs to take us more seriously and gave me resources to do so. So, that was kind of informative. Um, I really enjoyed the speakers because I thought they were really inspiring, um, and to remember why we're all doing this, which was really great. Um I also went to some of the safety um classes which afterwards I went to some of the board members and I found out that we were already doing all of those things. So um which was pretty comforting actually because I was like oh those are great tools or great ideas and I was like oh we already have
that stuff. So um it really just made me appreciate that you know I think we do have a good group leading this school district um and that we're already doing a lot of the things that everybody else is just learning or starting to do. So >> I would pair it almost the exact same thing. Uh mine obviously this is going to come as no surprise. A lot of security, a lot of communication, how we communicate with the public in a matter of crisis and we we literally check all of the boxes, you know, do it quick, do it fast, give it all, right? Tell people, don't hide, don't don't make secrets or keep secrets and make things up. And that's that's the stuff that we do. So it is it's very refreshing to come into
this and already know that we're not behind the eightball. We're actually leading the way with a lot of the things that we do and things like capital conference and the others where we can network with some of the other board members is is really uh provides a great opportunity also to compare what we're doing. >> Excellent. >> All right. Now item number B, OBSA OSBA updates. Mrs. Green, do you have anything today? >> No, not really. I I've attended a couple more events. Um my leadership is winding down December 31st, whatever date that is. How many days that is for me to move on into just backing down to just a trustee. Um so that'll give me more time back in the district, which I I really appreciate and look forward to. Okay. Item number
eight, new business consent agenda. Do I have a motion to approve items A 1 through 15? >> I make that motion. Second. >> Second. >> Any discussion or anything anybody wants to share >> to me? I think it was just all >> Yeah. I'd like to point out item number 13, approve the resignation of Steve Franks, the athletic director for the purpose of retirement. Uh so just would like to publicly thank Mr. Franks for his many, many years of service to the district. We will miss him. Uh but I know he's very excited for his next chapters, but um can't thank him enough for everything he's done. And just to hit on item number 10, I am proud to support the athletic holiday for families and students. I think that's very important and I think
that it's been accepted well the last couple years. So, um, glad to see that on the agenda again. >> Yeah. And just tons of donations again under item number two. So, we always appreciate everybody that gives. Um, many of that is for Affordable Christmas. Uh, that will happen uh this Saturday. It is the largest turnout that we've had since that program began. So, we're we're thankful uh for that small group that puts all of that together. >> Okay. Call a roll, please. >> Mrs. Green, >> yes. >> Mr. Overton, yes. >> Mr. Fischer, yes. >> Mrs. Talai, >> yes. >> Mrs. Bur, >> yes. Item number nine. Um, do I have a motion to approve a lease agreement with Tusky Valley Senior Center for daily rental and lease for room 134A and administr in I
can't talk today. administrative building effective January 1st, 2026 through December 31st, 2026. >> Second. >> I'll second discussion. I'm just going to say I'm super glad that we have that. I we had um uh retirees here yesterday or this week and got to share all the new things that the the community building here is doing. So, it's just super to see the seniors in here doing things and I can say that very happily cuz I'm one of them. >> What was their response when you were sharing everything? Pretty like, "Wow, we had a lot of stuff." >> Yes. Yeah. >> Yep. >> Uh, call the roll, please. >> Mr. Overton, >> yes. >> Mrs. Sly, >> yes. >> Uh, Mr. Fischer, yes. Mrs. Green, >> I I can vote yes. My husband does not get
paid even though he's the president of it. So, I am allowed to vote yes. So, I am going to vote yes. I just want to make that clear. >> Yes. Item number 10, schedule the January 2026 organizational meeting on January 12th at 6 PM here to and appoint a president prom. >> I'm going to u make a motion that Amy Burer be our president prom uh because she will fill the role as president. Again, I think it'll just make a smoother service um doing that. If there's any objections want somebody else otherwise I think it just makes more sense for Amy to do that. Do you think they're throwing up? >> Okay. Uh do we have a motion to approve um this meeting and me as the promp? >> I second it. >> Call a
roll, please. >> Uh Mr. Fisher, yes. Mrs. Green, >> yes. Mr. Overton. Yes. Mr. Chelotti. >> Yes. >> And Mrs. Burger. >> Yes. Item number 11. There is no public participation. Moving on to announcements. Um, just to remind everybody, there'll be a 2-hour early dismissal on Friday, December 19th. January organizational meeting will be held January 12th at 6 PM. Then immediately followed by the regular meeting that we will hold in the here in the community boardroom. and the state of the district will be held during the regular January 12th, 2025 board meeting to learn more about district operations, but fiscal outlook and plans for the future. Can we also just make a note that on Friday, December 19th at 100 p.m. um the staff will be having their um holiday party and we always attend
to support that. So that's at 1:00. Is that correct? >> Yes. Yes. >> It'll be over in the cafeteria, right? >> Uh it'll be here in the >> Oh, it's here. Okay. Here in this All right. Do I have a motion to adjurnn? >> I make a motion to adjurnn. >> Second. >> Call the role, please. >> Uh, Mrs. Green. >> Yes. >> Mr. Overton. >> Yes. Mr. Fisher. >> Mrs. Totti. >> Yes. >> And Mrs. B. >> Yes. >> It is 6:34. Oh, so we're only four minutes late. >> You can go to the good read on. Keep up the good work.
