Call the Tescross Valley local board of education meeting November 10th to the community boardroom in order. Please call the role. >> Mr. Fischer >> present. I know agendas have been made online. Uh Mr. uh will you please stand for the pledge of allegiance followed by Mr. Overton's uh invocation. I pledge algiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Heavenly Father, we thank you once again. And Lord, we just pray that you put a protection around our students and our faculty as the weather is starting to change and just pray the roads and everything will be clear and you just give every on how to drive and be safe this holiday season. >> Amen.
>> And I will say that my family was my sister was in town. They were supposed to leave yesterday on a flight. All the flights are canceled. She rented a car today and she's on her way to South Carolina. So pray for her. >> The safe travels for her. 7,000 flights were cancelled yesterday. >> It's a mess. All right. Moving on to item number two, declarations. Um, as you can see on the agenda, we have our mission statement and our board of education goals that we follow. Item number three, Dr. Bransky, I do not believe there's any request for participation today. >> Not tonight. >> And we will move on to item number four, superintendence report. >> All right. Well, thank you, Mrs. Ber. I'm going to turn things right over to Mrs. Hamilton, who
is our uh student family advocate. She's going to share two things. Trojan pride award but those folks aren't quite here yet so we might have to circle back at the end of the meeting for that part of it but two I'm gonna have Mrs. podium and just sharing about the family resource center we've created here and kind of what we do know I'm servies and I've been in this role a little getting that I'm here and one kind of vision that I had was a place for our students to go um to get some of the things that they need supplies like Dr. about that in the past. Um where can I where can I maybe set something like this up kind of origally started with maybe like a clothes closet type idea. Um, but
it has kind of morphed into a little bit more than that. Um, so I will not say all of the things I want to say about the two ladies that are coming tonight. Um, but they've been a big part in helping me um, get this room together. So after the meeting, if anybody would like to come down and check it out, um, that would be great. But it's still a work in progress. Um, I've had I've kind of changed courses a couple times on what I want to do with it. Um, I would like to have students be able to come and shop um for things that they need there. Right now, I've only had uh two students come and do that. And those are students that I know very well and have a really
good relationship with. Um, but right, [clears throat] the other thing that students can do is send me an email saying, "Mrs. Hamilton, I need some different things. I need socks. I need laundry detergent. toothbrush, things like that. And so what I do is I find those things and then I just discuss um come over during school day and they can do their own shopping. So if anybody ever has any suggestions on how I can make it better or better things with her directly she just takes care of it don't need to know what's going there support and so we we just thank her for everything she's doing and we'll we'll just bring you right [laughter] but thank you guys for being here. Um over the summer I was contacted um by someone I've known quite
a while and she said, "Hey, I've got somebody that I know that wants to kind of get things get um some type of donation drive going for things for kids at the school." We thought maybe school supplies. We weren't really quite sure. Let me think about it. And she said, "How how would I go about this? How do I get this in the hands of students?" What do you think? So, I thought about it and I thought about the past year of things that I was giving out. Um, and you know, the district supplies most of our school supplies. Um, we had a large surplus of things that I'm able to get from for kids here. Um, but the one thing that really went last year was was these hygiene bags that um I don't
even know where they originally came from. Um, but it would give kids a toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, a towel. Um, and I thought I'm about out of those and hygiene products is something that a lot of people ask me for and I would just go pick things up at the dollar store as needed. Um, so I told them this and they said, you know, they had this idea to talk to local businesses to uh collect donations and the hygiene hall was invented. And so they went around to local businesses and placed totes um in some restaurants and businesses and then spread the word on social media for our community to come together and donate items. And you know, one thing I found out this past year is people want to give and they don't want our
students to go without but they don't really know what to do and um they don't know what to give. So this was a great outlet for them um that said hey here's a list of all these things we'll take it and they delivered. Um, so they brought all of these wonderful things, totes and totes and totes of products over. Um, and um, you know, it just it really touched me the the kindness of their hearts and that giving spirit that they had that they wanted to do this for for our students. And, you know, a toothbrush might not seem like much to someone, but to someone else it means a lot. And um, socks underwear. They contacted um the Bombas company. Bombas donated 2,000 pairs of socks to us. >> Wow. >> Yes. Um plus
we got socks from other people. So I'm still getting emails and calls from people saying, "Hey, I never got a chance to donate. What What do you still need?" Um and I've had a lot of people say, "I I didn't know what to give. So when you come up with something or when you're low on something, let me know." So, I've got a list of names that when I run low on something, I can call and say, "Hey, are you still um so I am so pleased um to give these Trojan pride awards um to two of our community members, Kelly and Mrs. Lacy Jones. [applause] Yeah. Do Change this [laughter] camera anymore. I hear you Barb. >> Thanks everyone for being patient. >> Thank you guys. >> Thank you. Thank you so much. [applause]
>> Thank you for your help. >> And especially those 2,000 socks. They'll come handy here soon. >> Awesome. Uh that concludes my report, Mrs. Burer. All right. Thank you. Moving on to item number five, we have our leadership team reports. Uh Mr. Pro, you want to start? >> Absolutely. >> Uh the high school off to a great start this year. Um first marking period concluded, finished well. Students are working hard, staff is working hard. Um for evidence, I just want you to take a look at the honor roll list. Everybody is working very very hard. A number of our students made honor role. athletic season came to an end, which means the winter season is picking up very soon. Uh, and we're getting ready for the hard part of the year. So, the challenges are
coming, but bring them on. >> All right. >> Do you want to present students of the month? >> We can do that now. >> Okay. First for our students of the month, the note of the month is positivity. So Tori Stman, [applause] Tori is a senior and a daughter of Craig and Kelly Stallman. Her school activities include cheer, track, volleyball, TV online, and National Honor Society. Her hobbies include hanging with friends and family and playing Mario Kart, which she told me that she is amazing at. >> After graduation, Tori plans to attend college to study occupational therapy. So, Tori, CONGRATULATIONS. [applause] >> Darn it. >> Behind. Get away from behind. >> Okay. All right. >> Good job, kiddo. Our next student is Abby Gainer. [applause] Abby is a junior and the daughter of Mark Gainor.
Her school activities include band, theater, speech and debate, and hope squad. Her hobbies include reading, writing, and spending time with her friends and family. After graduation, Abby plans to attend college to study in a field of historical content. So, congratulations, Abby Gan. [applause] Sorry. Good job. Get off [applause] and Sammy, if you could please. Our athlete of the month. [applause] Sammy Ward. Sammy is a senior and daughter of Misty and Matt Ward. She is a member of the cross country, basketball, and track teams, as well as Hope Squad and National Honor Society. Her hobbies include decorating cakes and reading. After graduation, Sammy plans to attend Walsh University to continue her running career while pursuing a degree in exercise science with future plans of going into advanced sports recovery. So, congratulations, Sammy Ward. [applause] >> Okay.
Yes. Oh, you don't need me in there, Barb. You absolutely don't. Congratulations. [applause] >> All right, next up is Mr. Street, our newly elected mayor of Lewisville. >> Well, we have a lot of great things going on at the elementary school, and I just want to give a shout out to our PTO. We had a meeting here last week, and I remember I think it was seven years ago, Mrs. Clemens and I had a PTO meeting in the old intermediate school office and that consisted of two moms with Mrs. Clemens and I and that was our PTO at the time. And so we had 25 to 30 people here just for a November meeting and it just it's it's great and it shows the support we have. So we had Halloween parties um that were
all run by our PTO in every classroom and then fifth and sixth grade um they have their group parties in the cafeteria and the gym the switch. So they do they do a great job and the elementary school is once again looking forward to um helping with the spirit of giving uh leading into Thanksgiving and then next thing you know we're going to blink and we'll have lots of choir and band concerts in December. And if I know I think typically in December we are not here at this meeting, but if anyone really wants to see fun and chaos in action, you are invited to breakfast with Santa on the 18th. Doors this year will open at 6:45 a.m. at the elementary school and we are hoping to get everybody through the line by 9:00
a.m. It is a awesome time. It goes really well and it just again shows the great community and family support that we have. So, and I'll just jump on what Dererick said. I am very thankful every time Mrs. Hamilton is is in our building. She does a great job for our kids. And really, a lot of times it's the families that move in here. They move in and they're like, "What do we do? Who do we talk to? How do we get this resource? What resources are there?" And she does a lot of great things just behind the scenes and picking up the pieces and helping those families in ways that we all recognize. So, I'm thankful for Mrs. Mr. Street, did I get that wrong? >> Are you Is that what you're elected as?
>> Yes. >> Yeah. >> Okay. I'm sitting here and I'm like I wanted to make sure I said that correctly, but congratul sharing. >> Item number seven, board member report by Mrs. Green. >> Thank you very much. All right. Um, you can pay attention to the screen up that's going to be the PowerPoint, but our board members, you guys have paper copies, okay? >> Along with me. So, I'm going to go through this. Um, before I start though, I want to I just want to highlight a couple things. One, a capital conference is what a week away or less, six days away. >> Six days away. So, if you haven't downloaded your app, download your app. It's 2025 capital conference for the newbies. It tells you all the learning sessions, where to go, what to
do, and you can plug in little um clicks and then it'll form a master list for you. So, you always know where to go in what classroom. So, um you don't have to wait for the last minute. Sometimes if you if you see something you really want to go to but you can't, talk to one of us and maybe one of us can share and we'll go to that. You know, if you have two you like, I can share and go with one. This is my last year for um speaking engagements and requirements as an officer, so I'm a little more free. Um but I want to make sure you're ready for that. We are going to wear our polo shirts if everyone is agreeable to that with black pants. What did you call yourself?
Leggings. Well, whatever. I don't know what they're called, but black pants. Everyone okay with that? Everyone have black pants? >> Preferably? It won't look good on the TV screen, but if you want to look 1950ish, that is okay by me. >> So, polo shirts on Sunday, guys. And then Derek has a a tenative list of where we all need to be at different times. Just ask one of us. The general session is the big auditorium closest to the stair um the escalator closest to the escalator. And there's a little black room that you sit in, back room that you sit in, uh, until your name is called, so to speak. Okay, >> we'll find you, don't worry. >> So, um, we'll show you where to meet and stuff like that for that. Um, I think
that's the two big ones. And then now I want to go over this. I've Oh, here. This is kind of a semi important thing. Um, I've been traveling and visiting schools. I know you guys know that and you've been very gracious to give me that opportunity. I will be completing all 88 counties this week. I will visited one school district in every county plus many many more 200 schools, but I have covered all 88 counties in the state of Ohio in the last three years. So, barring no snow. So, I'm really panicking now because I'd be really mad if I don't have that. But that's my goal before December 16th when we do this. So, moving on to OBA America 250 Ohio. This started um I heard about this last year um and actually there
was and I'll go over it later. there was a something here in our county um and I didn't really get involved in it but I um I was aware of it. Um our school is already having plans made up and drawn but I just wanted the board to be aware of this because this is a big deal. It's the 250th anniversary that marks the years of the American independence. So that is why um that that's why it's called 250. Okay. So next year is 250. Um, and um, there was a free workshop at Fort Lawrence. Um, and they had that. Um, and I believe one of our teachers went because if you see the little arrow, I think that is our teacher. You see that little arrow there? >> Yep. >> Is that her? >>
Yep, that's her. That's Mrs. Mace. >> Mrs. Mace. I thought so. Now, we might have had more, but when I was looking at the picture, I'm thinking that is her. Good job, Tusky Valley. Um, and this is promote civic education. Um, one of the big things that I want to point out is for this year only the 2025 2026 year, you can get instead of a citizenship seal, you can get a 250 social study seal that will never be except for this year. And there's just a few requirements to do for that. Um, and um, I know Andrea's aware of that. And it's just a matter of tracking really. The kids just have to get a B or above in two classes, uh, specific classes. And they want us to tell our own stories. And
the interesting thing is um without turning probably you've all turned to the page already. I was g going to have you guess. There's only one revolutionary fort in Ohio. Does anyone know where it is? How about our students? Do any of you know where it is? >> Fort Lawrence. Good job. It's Fort Lawrence. We are That is the only site in Ohio and it's right here in our school district. Um, and uh, our fourth graders go out and visit it and examine it, but I thought it was very interesting. I never knew that. Been there probably 15 times and never known that. So, it was very interesting. I don't know why I always went to watch the Revolutionary War, but I just thought they were just play acting. I didn't really realize it had to
do with the Revolutionary War. So, I thought it was interesting. >> Yes, I learned something in this meeting. And there's a bunch of lesson plans that they've um highlighted and um our teachers have those and Derek and uh Andrea is working on those. But I just wanted you to be aware that there's a lot of things that support teachers and promote civic education engagement. Um one of the things they're really looking for too is finding the graves of our revolutionary war veterans. Um and so there are seven in our county. Two have been identified. So, I would put this out to our students that anybody who likes to do a little detective work, this might be a great project for you to do, maybe for extra credit if you talk to your teacher, right? But
there is seven in our county um that we need to find and they found two. So, just an FYI. And then the next page talks about who those people are. All right. And this is a time where our community can be engaged with our students, families, schools, and community. So, it'll be a big deal. Um, one of the things that I thought would be nice is um, we do not usually have a July um, board meeting, but at some point it'd be really nice if uh, we had some students read the Declaration of Independence. You know, like five or six students read the declar. It's not very long. Um, especially our high schoolers could do it with a breeze, but I thought going into that year, maybe in June, that would be something that would
be um, be nice to see from our students. And then finally, there's a symposium that supposedly is free. You know, I love that word free, but sometimes you just have to find out for sure. So, I'm not going to say it really is free, but they say it is on January 30th and 31st for teachers um about the Northwest Ordinance. And it's supposed to be really um engaging and interesting down at Ohio State. I don't know if our student or teachers are interested or if we can let them go, but I just want to let you know that. And then I wanted to also let you know that there are things planned starting to be planned for the 250 uh in Fort Lawrence. Um and uh these are some of the tenative dates right now
of things going on to celebrate that. So I just wanted to highlight that for you guys. And then this is the interesting thing about the census. It talks about all the revolutionary war veterans that lived in Ohio. And then finally, interesting fact, the kindergarteners this year will be in high school seniors on the 250th anniversary of the United States Constitution. That's a that I found that very interesting. And then that that ends my report. So, thank you. >> All right. Next up is Mr. Overton with legislative amendment. >> All right. Well, if you guys have copies of this, it'll be up there, too, but I know you don't want to turn around look at your sheets there. Uh I'll just if you want me to read all of them, we can. Uh you can just
kind of cruise them as we go quickly. Um I'm just going to kind of get over of what these actually are talking about and if anybody has any questions we'll go from there. So the uh proposed amendment number one uh title local control basically this is it's it has nothing to do with parental rights. It it I was kind of a little bit confused at first when I read it and uh Sally got some clarification with her and she actually had called down to Columbus and we got the clarification. So there's nothing to do with parental rights. This is basically just keeping or giving OSB8 support that uh keeps the local control. It keeps everything in the local control so that we can decide what's best for uh the school district and not the state.
>> There any questions on that one? >> And this is basically a a push back from the state um telling us more and more what to do, right? >> So, we're trying to just state our opinion that we believe that local control is best versus the state telling us what to do >> with no funding. Uh the next few here all deal with the fair school funding plan which doesn't really relate to us but it still can affect other schools. So uh number two is on the base formula amount. Um this basically poses changes to the base formula plan um that's in our platform today. It adds some language to talk about regularly updating these components. Um the resolution to the u basically platform committee was the regular updates in the legislative committee are necessary
to ensure the funding plan evolves with changing student demographics. So basically it's saying that we we definitely need to make sure that things are always being looked at is going to uh evolve with what's happening with the demograph demographics of the children in our school districts and the diversity and the economic conditions. Um so any questions on that one? Okay. And three. >> So unless you I just want to clarify Ben will be voting on these. So if you have any objections, please let us know him though. >> Uh number three, career tech planning districts. Um basically this creates a new plan called career tech planning districts. Uh it's basically the idea was to heighten and highlight the importance of career tech education. I something we've talked about uh several times and the need for
that. Um it [clears throat] designs a career tech district such as a joint vocational school um district or comprehensive district based models so that it uses them to kind of like see what we need and sure that the programming is there to meet the evolving high demands of the sectors and the areas that they're in. Um so I think that's a kind of a cool thing. Anybody have any questions or concern? >> All right. Number four, categorical parody. Uh, this one wants to encourage regularly updating of the fair school funding plan. Um, adding public education uh to make sure that the funding goes to the public schools and other groups. Um, the English language learners. uh as we know in some of the surrounding schools there's a lot of students that are coming in that
are not English language based and they're learning a lot of English as their their second language. Uh so this rationale it's just to make sure that there are regular updates um of the legislative committee to ensure that the funding evolves with the student demographics um and the cost and the drivers and the economic conditions basically depending on the school district. >> So this is a big drain on some schools resources. Some have 40 different languages that they're trying to teach all of them English. Um we've been privileged to just have a few but this still >> where the language basically striking out, you can see what the strikeout is there. Strikes out the language there. It eliminates the process of flow through funding charter schools. Um we are opposed to going back to the the
way it was before with that flow through model. So this is just saying we're going to cross that out. It's not going to have that flow through option coming back into the amendment again. And for those you just learned your finance flowth through model means the money would come to us and then those kids who go to another school then we would give that school it would come through us to go to another school where now currently every school just gets their funding and it doesn't come through the um to the school districts and we don't want to go back to the other way because it's just more work for Mark. All right, number six. Um, let's see. This one is the diversion of voter approved tax revenue. Uh, this opposes language of the diversion
of voter tax revenue by the state. Uh, basically adds language that would say that OSBA is opposed to legislation that would reduce or eliminate voter approved tax revenue or for the district to return any revenue once it's been received by the district. and basically opposes taking away the ability of districts to use the dollars which the voters have already approved >> which is currently in the house and some in the senate. >> Question school funding >> will not be that way on Monday. [laughter] Thank you for delegating me again. uh school funding factors. Um basically this is just to make sure that the language supports uh keep supporting the fair funding and keeps everything up to date is basically all this one does. Uh eight is the school meals. Um, school meals, they've been a
very big benefit to our students as well as many students around the state. Um, with the improvement of student nutrition, um, it eliminates the stigma of people that get it versus those that don't. Um, increases all the participation. So, basically, we're saying yes, that's we like this, we want it. >> All right. So, now these next ones are additional platform amendments. Um, and these were submitted by the deadline. And they're kind of well the way it works is each of these amendments um are from these districts. They'll get to speak on their platform and then they vote to on each one of these amendments that they're talking about and the delegate will vote yes or no could vote for all, none or one of them. And then the amendment with the highest vote if it
exceeds the 50% plus one uh 500 delegates or 251 must be yes to pass and then it moves forward and then after the vote count all the highest one if eligible will move forward and can be discussed and amended and it must then pass a pre-force vote to be added to the platform. Uh so these are a lot of u how do I want to say it? They're >> they're opposite spectrums. Yes, they're very opposite. They're all opposed to each other. So, we're hoping everything just gets tabled and uh we can look at all that on the next next round of things. Um so, at this point, I guess we kind of wait to see how how it shakes out down there. Any questions with that? How how it's working or anything? >> I would
just say that I think I would prefer but this is one vote or one person is that these are so radically different. Two of them are very similar. The LA uh valley local and the um the Fort B Fry are similar but have a few additions or you know just a couple tweaks different than those. But the bree is on the total opposite end. And I think um in this political climate when you start going to extremes, you start causing division. And we want to as a public education, we want to be united. >> So I would prefer that on all of these we vote no and that we work toward a compromise that would um be more in line with working as a whole rather than causing division. That's my thought. >> Uh then
the last one is the business that was led by Toledo City and it just basically prevents delegates from bringing resolutions uh from their board to the assembly that day. So they're not going to come up and end up with another 600 things one after another that will make the day go very long. >> So >> we're for that. >> We are definitely for that. [laughter] >> All right, that all for >> Yep. >> Thank you, Mr. >> The next is new business. or item number seven. Can I have a motion to approve items A one through nine? >> I make that motion. >> Second. >> Any discussion? All right. Call the RO, please. >> Mrs. Green. >> Yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. Mrs. >> Yes. >> Mr. B. >> Yes. Item number eight, uh, approve
a lease agreement with Cognitive Organics LLC for rental room 128 in the administrative building effective November 1st, 2025 through July 31st, 2026. Is there a motion? >> Second. >> Uh, any discussion? Glad to see another business organization coming in. I think it's it's uh doing really well. >> Derek, can you just give us a highlight what that means? uh she's involved with clinical counseling. She was actually here before and run least space last year and then this year um she actually has two locations so was going to focus just on her other location but she has so much clients that she needs another space. Uh, so she asked if she could come back in. So, >> so is she competing with green? >> No, they're different things. They do different things. She does brain mapping,
which I can't I don't really know what it is or how to explain it. Uh, but yeah, they focus on two completely different things and they operated both in the building together already. Uh, with this lease, we have three additional classrooms left in this building that we're willing to lease out. Um, and then that hallway is full. So, three more spaces that we can get community groups into. >> Nice. >> Awesome. All right. Moving on to item number nine. Oh. Oh, yeah. Sorry. Discussion. I forgot. Call the role, please. >> Mr. Overton. >> Yes. Mr. >> Yes. Mr. Green. >> Yes. >> Mr. B. >> Yes. Now, moving on to item number nine, public participation, non-aggenda items. I don't believe we have anybody for that tonight. >> Item number 10, announcements. Just to announce, our
next regular board of education meeting will be held December 8th here at 6 PM in the community boardroom. And uh item number 11. Is there a motion to adjurnn? >> I make the motion. >> Second. >> I'll second. >> All right. Before we call the role, I do want to let everybody know that if you'd like to join us after this meeting for a quick piece of cake. We have a piece of cake in honor of Dr. Veransky, 2025 educator of the year by OMLA. >> Thank you. >> Please call the role. [applause] Mr. Fischer. >> Yes. Min. >> Yes. M. >> Yes. Yes. Thank you.
