001To the flag of the United States of America stands one nation indivisible with liberty and justice for all. >> So that say equipment. >> Yeah. >> Oh, nice. Okay. Anyhow, I'm sorry. Uh, item two is recognition of visitors. Nobody signed in that wants to address the board. So, move on to item three. At this time, we'll call the regular meeting of the board of education on this November 13th. Roll call, please. >> Mr. >> here. Mr. Mr. >> here. Can we have a motion to adopt the listed agenda for tonight's motion? Second, please >> comments or questions? >> No. >> Roll call, please. >> Mr. >> Yes. >> Merry? >> Yes. >> Mer? >> Yes. >> Mr. Motion passes. Hey Joe, how are you doing? >> Good. Sorry down the hall. So good. >> Okay,

002so uh that's item four. We're just item five, the president's report. Just wanted to say that I had the uh lucky enough to be in town and be able to attend the literacy night. What? Two weeks ago. Was it >> Last week. Thank you. Um and it was a real nice night. Uh everybody did a great job. There were a lot of things there for the kids to do. They had uh you know, I'm a little bit biased. My favorite was they had service dogs there that the kids read to. So, that was kind of cool. Very cool, I thought. Um and then a lot of other things with coloring and and rhyming and just so many different things that were really nice. PTO was there, did a nice job. So, teachers were there working.

003So, the library was there. Um, we were able to get some uh some uh kids coupons, I guess we'll call it, for certificates for from uh Texas Roadhouse for appetizers and also for free kids meal. So, that was neat for so that was a really nice night and things went really well and it was just nice that every thanks to everybody put that together and work to make that happen. So, that was very nice. Uh now on something that's unfortunately just wanted to catch just mention that uh Andy Herchek a 28y old 28-y year board member uh who had this facil this room we're in right now is named in his honor passed away on October 27th was on the board for 28 years I think I served I think 18 years I think it

004was either 18 or or maybe 22 years I can't remember exactly which one of those two and he was a great guy. Uh he graduated from Randolph. His kids all graduated from Waterville and uh uh just a really good guy, great mentor to me. Friend of me that I remain friends with uh from actually till until he passed. So we talked talked continued to talk on a semi-regular basis on that. But community is really sad. The community is going to going to miss him and just want to offer condolences to his family. Okay, with that we'll go to the superintendent report. >> All right, so superintendent report I'm gonna first let bar kind of share her part of it and I apologize mine's kind of lengthy. So >> that's all right. My normal thing certificates

005of standards governing food and beverages sold on the premises. We have not changed anything that we do. The only thing different this year is we do not have to be involved in CACF because we are not claiming meals for preschool. So that's a good thing. Um so our board policy was updated in April which we have to review or update every year. So now we're complying with that and we follow all the standards for school lunch program. So offer versus serve menu requirements um and our alle cart items are all sold as smart snacks. So we're following those rules. And then um this is just the certificate that I need to submit to the state so we continue to get funding and the board policy that was updated our snap snaps in schools which also

006involves um fundraising. So any fundraising done if items are sold during the school day which school day is midnight till a half hour after the bell they have to be smart snack compliant if they're being sold to be consumed. That's it. Any questions? >> So, we're offering, just to point out to everybody, we are offering free breakfast and lunch to all students. >> What What's the cost of lunch? >> Uh 275 for K through eight and $3 for high school, which is 9 through 12. >> So, that's like a savings of $500 per student for the average family in the community. So, that's really significant. I think three kids, you know, keeps multiplying. So, that's really great that we're able to do that. >> Yeah. our participation and extra difficulty um year to date so

007far has increased. So in comparison when we had our normal participation just on a normal year was between 40 and 50% depending on the school for lunch. During the years that we had free meals during COVID we were at 63 and 66% for each school. Right now year to date we're at 69%. So participation has increased. It's increased dramatically. We're at almost 50% for breakfast participation and I'm going to contribute that a lot to the new service card that we got for the high school. Um, a lot of seventh and eighth graders are taking advantage of that coming in the front door because they do a grab and go breakfast at the high school. So, our participation for breakfast has increased quite a bit. I mean, normally our participation is 8% at high school for

008breakfast and like 13 to 14% at the other schools. So, we're almost at 15%. That's huge. So, we're feeding a lot more kids. >> And the teachers have um accepted the grab and go after a few weeks of school, realizing everybody's getting free breakfast and the numbers are so high. They're finally being much more receptive and um not making that bus when kids are in the hall or taking it with them to first class. So, Thank you so much. That $500 really is just was just calculated on the lunch price. That doesn't include, you know, what the families are saving based on breakfast. So, it's nice when we can do that. Hopefully, financially works out for us and we'll be able to continue that on. >> So far, the last two months like our total

009income was a little bit higher in comparison to last month, last year's first two months. So, we'll see how that plays out. Um, but yeah, I mean, food costs have gone up this year also. So even to have our income a little bit higher, but our expenses are also a little bit higher. So hopefully it all works out. >> Thank you. So in addition to that, and I think our our high school principal, Mr. Vers had to speak a little bit about Veterans Day. But uh prior to speaking on that, I just want to acknowledge that not too often has many veterans in the building as we do. We have five staff members that are veterans. Miss Alpine, Mr. AR, Mr. Null, Mr. Bosley, and Mr. Riley. So, you know, that made even more special

010that we have great representation within our staff of veterans. So, very those we honored them on Tuesday. Some other things to kind of talk about. Uh we did participate in the the Asher drill on October 31st where first responders throughout Orange County had some surrounding star county participation as well where we did a drill took over the building. We had many staff members participate. It was a great learning, you know, learning experience for us and also those first responders. We had multiple debrief debriefs from that and uh when we had that final report, we'll share that out with the board that that debrief from the first responders. Also, our special education rating came out. We met the requirements. We have 23 out of 24 points. That's an improvement over last year, you know, so that

011that's a positive. Ideally, we'll have 24 out of 24 next year. We know what area we want to work on in that one. The last thing we kind of share with you and talk a little we had some questions about you know what's the natural procedures because on Tuesday we did have a you know we had a student that brought something inappropriate to school we had to go into lockdown and so there has been some questions and like how that process typically works and so you know to kind of share that overall our idea is we first want to handle the emergency and the safety and security of every student staff member inside this building. Once that is handled and we'll make sure we clearly communicate out, you know, the information that's appropriate. So, just

012going through that process a little bit so people understand what we're doing during that is first and foremost we're being alert throughout the day of any kind of dangers through a supervision or any other aspect that and be available for any kind of reporting. In this case, we had a student that initially reported seeing something and so at that point in time, we acted quickly and swiftly to to do it. The second part is to identify the type of level of safety threat we have within our building. Try to figure out is this is this a true threat to do harm, you know, to our students or anybody inside the building. From there, you know, if they've warned it, we put our our staff in either a hard or a soft lockdown. That's when our

013first responders are going to be called, you know, it's deputies, fire department, so forth. In this case, you know, we really had to find and locate the potential safety threat. And that's where we'll utilize all staff members involved. We brought down our tech person to help us look on cameras, try and identify. trying to get our office staff together trying to figure out who who is all involved and where we can find those those students located. Once we identify and we put the resources in place, we're looking to determine if any additional actions need to occur. For instance, once we had those students that were involved or the student we're working with, we had to do some additional looking around in classroom or or you know, different areas just to make sure that our building

014is safe and secure. At the conclusion of that, you know, after we identify that there's no longer a safety threat to our building, then we do a debrief with our team to make sure all the information collected is is right. we have the right information to share out and that's when we'll communicate to the staff and communicate with the family and the community and then after fact we'll also do an additional need brief and followup to see if there's any kind of improvements that need to happen you know moving forward further action needs to take place so just kind of going through all those steps you know how we you know go through a process like that it's you know one thing we're very cognizant of it's very concerning And it's it's sad that we

015have to be prepared that way, but uh you know, we we spent a lot of time thinking about and practicing for situations like this and was very very grateful for the porch county sheriff's department and their support during this and the staff and how they responded and committees respond. The students did an excellent job and we were in a tough situation. We were really quickly able to identify the problem and get that resolved pretty quickly. So, any questions regarding that process? I just want to say I thought you guys did a great a nice job, assessed the threat level, took took the action, found what we needed to find, and then communicated to the community. on the the the text messages that you sent out in the all call. When we were talking the other

016day, you had said something about only was it like 40% of families had opted in. >> Yeah, great good question. So, prior to we recognized that all of our families have completed final forms. So to help that is an critical piece for us getting important information out families. So this since we had the end of the grading period one thing we communicate with families this time we're going to hold a report card until that final form's complete. We need the upto-date information on the child. So I believe we we've increased some of those final forms completion. For text messaging you have to opt in. In the beginning of the year we're at 25%. I did put something out share the community that for the quickest upto-date snow or snow day information, school closing information, opt

017in. So, we're roughly around 50% now that opted in. But we're going to continue to encourage families because a lot of times that's an easy one. You know, we'll do but I'm going to do it three. You're going to hit you'll get it through text messaging, email, and then all call. So, there'll be a we'll hit all three components. Is that something we can engage with like PTO maybe too to get the word out on the text message because I think that would probably reach it reaches fast. I noticed I got that about 20 minutes before I got the call. Yeah, that's keep pushing out. I'll keep pushing that out. That's I think text messaging I think is the quickest and it's easiest and you can't you can't always leave a meeting and and listen

018to the all call but you can sometimes hide all that see what's being sent because the all on my phone just because I know the number but it comes up spam and it blocks it when it sends the wall call. So my phone does it doesn't ring. It just it flashes but it doesn't you know spam call it blocks it. I didn't know about that. So >> you have to say to make it a number. >> Yeah. But it comes from the same number. If it comes from the same number every time you add it as contact say like I know it is but it does block it. So you might have there's probably a lot of families like because actually we'll get after I do an all call we'll probably get about 10 calls

019back 10 or more calls back gets them all you know someone from this number just called me >> right >> and he will say you know Mr. can't just call and left a message and I'll call Jim so that we can get these messages. >> Did you say final forms are 100% complete? >> No. Okay. We have a lot to do. So high school the elementary did a really um this year in order to get the schedule of their class >> in order to get the teachers home their their class. We had parents fill out final forms at back to school bash. We got a little bit of um but it was very successful. We're over 80% at the elementary with final forms filled out which has been great when kids are going on field

020trips and kind of emergency and we're going to do it again next year too. So now everybody knows how easy the process is >> and and final form is really nice because in the old days when we did papers I think I had three daughters. I have a stack of papers first day of school going through each one of them. You do that every year. Final forms is nice because you go through and you just put your initials like that hasn't changed. I haven't moved. My phone numbers are the same. Here's my initials. Move on. And it's extremely quick once you do it the first time. That concludes my longest ever. [Music] Okay, that brings us to the uh junior and high school principal report. >> Um so as uh Mr. Dance mentioned, we did

021have our Veterans Day breakfast and assembly uh yesterday was yesterday, two days ago, sorry, my days were blurring on Tuesday. Um you know, it was it was a great event. Every year we, you know, try to at least while I've been here, increase uh what we're doing, make it a little bit nicer. Uh Mr. Negron took on a lot of work with one of his classes. He has a modern civics class. Um it's a new elective this year. There was a plan that he was going to teach a particular elective. Uh he could not attend training over the summer uh due to actually I think he was he was on uh he was placed on orders. He was on duty with with garden and so he couldn't go. So he created this class and part

022of what he wanted to do was this idea of having having the class plan an event start to finish and see what's actually involved with all that. Um and so they did a ton of work from um you know contacting uh veterans organizations uh putting together the flyers planning out the breakfast and what that looked like and also planning on the assembly down but the staging of it. um they kind of oversaw a whole lot of it. I was in coordination with them. Um but they really did a great job. Um and they really got to see then how much was actually involved in putting together uh one of those uh types of events. Um and so that was that was really good. Um and then also just a thank you to Mr. Tomiana um

023who served as our speaker who did a really good job um and had a really good message to our kids about what service means. Um mayor and honorable. So, um, in the high school, typically in, uh, junior and senior high really, we recognize merit honorable students really at the end of the year. That's been kind of what's happened, at least, um, the years that I've been here. So, this year, uh, what we're trying to do is recognize kids a little bit more. Um, especially when they're, you know, making merit an honor, they're working really hard in their classes. Um so this has been spearheaded by student council and uh Miss Weise and uh Miss Allen. Uh so we recognized our high school students who made merit honorable for the first grading period. Um in total

024we had 115 kids that made that made that mark. Um then that's wonderful to see and um it was actually in here. So, we had stage. Uh, they got donuts, granola bars, juice, milk, things like that. We called them down. Um, we got a picture. Literally, the picture is they're taking up this entire space here. And it was hard to actually get a good angle because of how many kids it was. So, um, awesome. And then I think we had with junior high included, we had about 170 or so. Um so just with seventh and eighth grade then added as well uh you you have what 60some kids in addition to that uh junior high recognizes kids they have a bit of a system that's already built um where they're recognizing them with quarterly awards

025rewards um and so um you know just trying to increase that here and I think we're going to try and work on getting a social media post out that has that information on it as well. Uh just some notes here of upcoming events. Uh the junior high hanging of the greens uh will take place on Wednesday, December 3rd. So that is the day after we get back from uh Thanksgiving break. Uh we typically do ours in the morning and then elementary does the afternoon uh because Miss Mediotti has to be at both of them because the bands play. >> Oh, okay. I thought I thought they did. Um, but ours is scheduled at least right now for 9:00 a.m. If we have to adjust, we will adjust. But, uh, Wednesday, December 3rd there for seventh

026and eighth grade. Um, we have our band concerts coming up. Um, so sixth and seventh grade holiday band concert uh is taking place on December 3rd as well, but that's in the evening. Um, I believe the start time for that is 6:30. And then our eighth and high school holiday band concerts are taking place the following week just to coordinate gym times with basketball practice and things like that. They're they're staggered. Um and that's on Friday, December 12th. And I believe that's also a 6:30 start time as well. And then lastly, um this is just so uh you know the board is aware. Uh we did something with this last year, but they're looking to expand it. This actually came out of some talks with our um Asher drill. Uh the Portage County Sheriff's Office

027is putting together a what's called the quick response team or QRT. Um and they want to start doing presentation. So the quick response team goes out to calls for things like opioid overdoses and things like that. Um what they want to do as part of that is do public outreach. Um talk about the dangers of drug addiction, opioid opioid abuse. Um and then also how to respond to those in those situations, how to recognize that. Um officer cutting did and obviously it's tailored to be school appropriate. So you know a lot of the more um you know maybe gruesome imagery and things like that is taken out of it. Um, Officer Cutting did presentations for kids last year that was just a real paired down version of that, but it was really just, hey, get

028that information out. Um, they're looking to expand that and we're in the preliminary talks as far as getting that rolling with having them come out to classes, uh, and give those talks in the junior high and the senior high. Um, I'll have more information as that comes up. um Miss Rock, myself and Miss Dennison um are scheduling meetings with them whenever it works for them to come out and talk with us um sort of get the nuts and bolts and see what will work. So as that information becomes available I will share that out and that's my report. >> So just to follow up and add on to what Mr. just said about 55% of our students have won a 3.0 or greater. So that that's that's excellent. And then did we had a person

029that was a World War II veteran. Did he ever make it to he was he was inquiring about I'm not sure. Did he make it to our presentation? >> I did not with with everything that happened that day. I am not sure. >> So we did have we have a local resident that is a World War II veteran and he was hoping to make it. I'm not sure if he made it because we did have a lot going on. Yeah, >> he was there, you know, been nice recognize him. >> Did you say 55% of the students or 3.5 3.0? Yeah. 55% of our students were married or 7th grade through 12. Okay, that brings us to the element report. >> Hi everyone. Yes, we have had lots of very fun things going on at

030the elementary this past month. Uh, first we want to talk about Camp Fitch. Our sixth graders finally went to Camp Fitch. 35 out of 49 of our kids went and they participated in candle making, survival skills, Lake Erie science, as well as horseback riding, rock climbing, and archery was particularly a favorite. Uh, evenings were spent landing, singing songs around the campfire. um all the campaigns. Everyone, including our six high school students who run the chaprons, had a great time. We want to thank the PTO for the generous donation to help offset the cost for some of our kids. The transportation team for driving and picking everyone up, the cafeteria staff for packing everyone a lunch when they arrived at camp, we had to worry about packing a lunch. And teacher Shaper, Sarah Heppy, Corey Turner,

031Susie Hooper, and Ken Riley uh for going out for the three days with the kids. and for Mr. Mrs. M for uh sponsoring camp teaching for all the kids. So we are very grateful and everybody's help for making that happen because it was a huge undertaking. This trip was extra special for water. I found out once we got up there because it was the 50th anniversary of Camp Fitch and Mr. Hetler who was a beloved teacher here is a legend at Campfish. The Hedler motor house is actually right on the lake in his widow that's a couple houses down. So, it was extra special for the campfish staff to have water up there when Mr. Empire was somebody that they just adored and are still um mourning that he's not there. So, it was great.

032The staff was very complimentary. Julie and I went up. We took turns going up and they said nothing but great things about our kids. Everybody was eager to participate in new things. How well they listened, followed directions. The comment that made us most proud was when they said this must be part of your culture with how well these kids were behaved here and that was just the best thing that Julie and I could have heard. So kudos to everybody's parents and staff for raising great kids. They had a really good job. Um week 44 has been dubbed water week. So week 44 out of 52 weeks and they are excited to have us back for next year. So we're going to look at talking to our fifth graders in the spring to make it happen

033for them next year. Uh the following week everybody participated in Halloween and we dressed up and we had a parade and everybody attended parties to finish the day. So there was lots of um crafts and treats and giggles and smiles. Uh fourth through sixth grade students participated in a virtual field trip through Bookalicious. If you remember in early October our K2 kids did our K3 kids did and this time it's with Jerry Craft who is more for the young adults. So they got to listen to how he writes his stories and interact with him in that way and the kids had a really good time. Like Mr. Christo said last week we had literacy night. Uh families were treated to a dog theme positively love reading. They were able to dogs, play reading games, create

034puppy games for themselves, free books, and win lots of good graphic prizes. Uh high school students and teachers also add in on the fun which was nice to see the whole community coming together. A huge thank you to our literacy committee made up of Mrs. Terry, Hannah Fitz Simmons, Lord Nichols, Susie Hoover, Renee Jackson, and Julie Sonfeld. And we want to thank our custodial staff who helped set up and tear down everything when it was over. Tonight is the elementary second round of parent teacher conferences. So everybody did pop up tonight and got to hang out with each other before got back to work. And lastly, we are thrilled to welcome Lee Shley as our new K2 self-contained classroom teacher and Jennifer Shanahan who has big shoes to fill with taking over for Mrs. Spellelman.

035She would have liked to have been here tonight, but she has conferences. So, we are really excited about them being part of our team and they have just and we're excited to have here. >> Thank you. Any questions or comments? >> Mr. He was a legend. He was my math teacher and then when he retired, he came back and he was our technology guy and he uh he he helped service the computers and keep them fixed and worked on them and he would find us grants to get them. Uh we were talking one day I was talking to him and he said he's got a bunch of computers that we got that he found that were given to us of like 50 of them by u the center for disease control down in the Cincinnati

036area and he was trying to find he was going to rent a U-Haul or something to go pick him up and I said what next week I'm going to Indianapolis I can swing by and pick him up on the way back. So I got him and he you would have thought that you know I mean he was just so appreciative of that but he was just such a great guy his services when he passed away There was people from the uh from that camp there. I mean, it was there was I'd never seen so many people get up and comment and talk. >> There were people up there that said that he raised them. And they asked if we had sailors down here because the sailing voting program hasn't been the same since he passed

037away as I can ask. I don't know if known for ascending like voters, you know, to do that, but I'll put it out there. But they are still um it was really nice to see how excited they were that you know two special places for him were at the same time. So it's nice. >> Okay. Thank you. Uh legislative report Mr. Joe >> nothing really new. Uh, one thing that I saw was kind of interesting. I didn't know labor laws changed 14 and 15 year olds can now work till 9 p.m. 18 hours a week and since I started coaching at the girls knowing some of the high school kids some more kids that have jobs here. Wonder how many have our school work. Be interesting to find out scheduling practice around jobs. Another thing

038to figure out 16 and 17 year olds are midnight shift. >> Okay, thank you. Um, >> um, I don't have a lot. There was an article in the newspaper if anybody saw it. Um I think it was last week. Um it just gave some statistics from Maplewood. Um there's 10 participating schools. Enrollment is 1766. Um the overall state grade is five stars. Um the achievement grade is four stars. College and career readiness was five stars. graduation is five stars and then postp program placement was five stars. So that was just kind of nice to see on paper. Um we had 380 students on honor roll and water actually had quite a few. I can email you guys the form. I was going to print it and then I forgot to print it but I can

039email it to you so you can see all the students but there was a lot on there from Waterlue. Um there was 86 students for the first nine weeks that had perfect attendance. And then um the sophomore showcase was last week on November 5th and 6th and they had a little over 850 sophomores from all 10 districts come in and tour the school and all of the labs. Um tonight is the spaghetti dinner for the families. So, um it's for the current families and then also for any incoming sophomores that are thinking about going to Maplewood. So, all the um students that are currently attend Maplewood, their families can come in and see kind of what they do in their lab and what happens. And then um sophomores that are thinking about Maplewood also can

040come and kind of the families can mentor and see what they think of the labs and what they want their kids to do. And then college trade school fair um is December 3rd. That's during the school day. And um the seniors will attend during their English classes. And then if there's any interested juniors, they will attend during their um lab that day. So that's all I have. Oh, the other thing I wanted to say, and this is not a but I think Brian mentioned it last month, my term is up in December. So, I know the last time that they appointed me to do it, Maplewood usually will contact Frank like in probably this like the end of this month or the beginning of December just to see kind of what you guys are thinking

041if you're going to send somebody new or have me keep doing it. Um, I know there's too many people joining, but um, just so that you know, the their board meetings are the third Thursday. So, it'll be the week after yours and they're at 5:00. So, that's something that you guys just to keep on your radar. >> So, at the organizational meeting in January, you have two meetings. Organizational meeting and the regular meeting. any organizational meeting you like the president vice president the legislative liaison appoint somebody to set your meeting time date and time um trying to think of all that procedural stuff um you know hire you hire attorney and give to do things so you have to keep that in mind >> and the um maplewood term is for three years so they

042you have to do it every three Can we require Brian to attend the meetings in January? >> Yeah, there you go. You have any questions in We got good notes. Look at the old >> you are willing to do it again. >> Yeah. If anybody else wants to do it again, I would do it again. >> You two try to attend the meetings then on that following Thursday of ours. You said it's at the Thursday after ours. >> Yeah. >> You tried to attend those meetings. >> I go to every meeting. Do >> I shouldn't say that. I haven't been to the last couple. >> If I was coaching something or I was on vacation, but I do go to >> They whoever decides to do it should >> Yes. They're actually pretty They're very

043They want you to be there. Like Ry's very be there. Um yeah, so if you change, you know, you set the date. So if you're thinking about changing the date, just bear in mind that the third Thursday is a neat experience because they have something that we never we have not really experienced ever in my my career here is they don't have money problems. If they do, it's how to spend it maybe. I guess you know, they don't have any any financial issues whatsoever. We just got their fiveyear forecast or yeah fiveyear forecast and at the end of five years they'll have 17 million in the bank >> and that's after we move 15 million to another. So that's very common with you know schools people would unfortunately career center and they have a four

044mill levy I think is they keep renewing and you know it's for the whole county so a small mill and for us one mill I think is 229,000 or something like that whatever it is so imagine four mills throughout the whole county and they renewed it just uh a couple years ago about three years ago or something like that >> I think three years ago because they're putting it on again next year. >> Yeah. So, so I mean a small mill makes a huge difference because it's over the whole county. So, >> and their superintendent, not that it has anything to do with the levy, but their superintendent has been there since 99 and he just retired and we just rehired him. So, that's kind of he's been there since. >> Okay. Thank you. All

045right. So, item 11 is new business. Is there any new business any board members like to bring up at this point? Good. Okay. Um, so super. >> All right. So under superintendent's business, letter A is to recommend and to approve a one-year limited contract for following Jennifer Shanahan to fourth grade teacher and Leah Shley intervention specialist. Have a motion to approve one-year limited contracts to Jennifer Shanahan and Leah Shidley. Motion >> second. >> Any comments or questions? >> Roll call, please. M. >> Yes. >> Mer. Yes. Mr. >> Yes. Mr. >> Yes. Motion passes. >> Congratulations. >> All right. Letter B is recommended to issue the following substitute contracts to the following effective within the 2526 school year contingent upon full complete compliance with the city of Ohio and Water Board of Education eligibility criteria.

046Can we have a motion to issue the listed substitute contracts for the 2526 school year? motion. >> Any comments or questions? >> Just one additional when you see Jennifer Shanahan in there, the reason she's also in there as well as well as the oneear contract because there were some days prior to the transition opportunity to be in that classroom with Miss Spelman for that transition. >> Mrs. Whittman. >> Yes. >> Mr. Rise. Yes, >> Mr. Yes. Mr. Moon. >> Yes. Motion passes. >> Letter C is recommended to approve the following resignations. Brand new middle school cheer coach and Margaret Howton Elementary School cafeteria assistant. Have >> a motion to approve the resation of Brianna and excuse Margaret How. Motion. I'll >> second. Any comments or questions? >> Roll call, please. >> Mrs. Wood, >> yes.

047>> Mr. >> Yes. Mr. W. >> Yes. Mr. >> Yes. Motion passes. >> Letter D is to recommend to add additional hours to the following to fill a posted vacancy. Sher for one hour. >> Okay. Motion to give additional hours to Sherry. One hour I should say. Motion. >> Second, please. comments or questions. >> This is just for transportation. We have consu disabilities and they needed aid on that bus and so she's fulfilling that role for us and we had this position previously but they had to drop so we're not not on that. >> Correct. >> Roll call please. >> Mr. Green. >> Yes. >> Mr. W. >> Yes. >> Mr. H. >> Yes. Mr. >> Yes. Motion passes. >> Letter E is to recommend to issue supplemental contracts for the following for 2526 school

048year contingent upon full complete compliance the state of Ohio and the lar board of education eligibility criteria. Have a motion to issue the list of supplemental contracts for the 252.6 school year. Second, please. comments or questions. Nice to see some former former players come back and volunteer help. It's always good to see roll call, please. >> Mr. >> Yes. >> Mr. W. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Wier. >> Yes. >> Mr. Hick. >> Yes. Motion passes. Letter F is recommend pursuant to board of education policy 9.24. The following items are no longer needed for the school purposes and may be disposed of in an inappropriate manner. Old high school girls basketball uniforms and high school girls softball uniforms. Have a motion to uh to approve the disposal of the uh list of uniforms. >> Second, >>

049comments or questions? Roll call, please. >> Mr. Good. >> Yes. >> Mrs. W. >> Yes. >> Mr. Hickman, >> yes. Mr. W. >> Yes. Motion passes. Lender G is to recommend to amend the 2526 school year added for staff professional development day on March 27th, 2026. This would be where staff report only. Students will not report that day. Have a motion to amend the 20256 calendar to have a staff professional vote today. Motion. Second, please. >> I'll second. >> Any comments or questions? >> So, as we talked about earlier, this is part of the >> Go ahead. This is part of a resolution we had to resolve one of our one of our grievances and this is a day that we found would be very appropriate to help with staff professional development. So half the

050day we had that half day would be a work day for our teachers to prepare for the fourth and nine weeks and half days. >> Yes. Yes. Do we uh just do we you know we we call a professional development day. Do we have to do we that word is okay because it's half day professional development a half day work day. I'm kind of fine with it but I just want to make sure we're okay there. >> Yeah. Thank you. >> Okay. I I I think the professional development part has more to do with the calendar itself that gets submitted to the state that it's not a student thing. >> Okay. >> So, great to say the only thing I would say is you get the word out to >> the nice thing about this

051particular day. It's almost like >> letter H. Roll call, please. That's okay. Mr. >> Yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. Motion passes. Letter H is to recommend to approve the special education model policies and procedures. We have a motion to approve the special education model policies and procedures. >> A motion. >> Second, please. >> Second. Any questions? This is a your your requirement for each of the school districts. So, uh, the state of Ohio part of like some of the federal guidelines has to ensure that, you know, school districts are following a model policy or their own particular creative policy and how you approach special education within your district. So, it's a guide book. It's probably about 50 something pages. It's really what we should be doing. outlines, you know, with an initial valuation with an

052IEP, the dates and, you know, what should be done in each one of those components. So, it's it's something that we have to provide evidence. They they said that November 1st, they open it up. You're supposed to provide evidence that you adopted that policy by November 30th. Last year, they they had this survey and it wasn't complete for us. this year we will submit it and walk through that property on an annual basis. Um, that was in our folder, right? >> It was in it was in the folder, right? It's like it was a color from the state, right? I think I read that this morning. >> No, I did send it. >> What's that? It was in the >> I was looking through that this morning. I remember going through some of the p

053It's very comprehensive and it's it's really it's a really good piece for I think educators overall, you know, whether it's an experienced teacher or a newer teacher to kind of read through and just kind of grasp some of the best practices within education and special education. >> Will we get that out? >> That will be something that the the principles will share out. >> Okay. I think we're rolling. >> Yes. Motion passes. Letter I is a recommend to approve the memorandum of understanding between WA and water local schools for monitoring in school suspension. A motion to approve the memory understanding from WA and water school monitoring in school suspension. Motion >> second, please. >> Any comments or questions? Just a further discussion on this one. This is just a changing order. This allows us to

054use a pair professional to monitor in school suspension opposed to having a certified teacher. Just we're okay doing that this year. Roll call, please. >> Mr. R. >> Yes. >> Mr. Higgins. >> Yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. Mr. President. >> Yes. Motion passes. >> Letter J is recommend to approve the memorand of understanding between oopsy and water local board local schools for class coverage. A motion to approve the memorandum of understanding between water for class coverage. Any comments or questions? >> So, this one this one was created because we'll have opportunities our self-contained resource rooms. We have some really strong pair of professionals inside those classrooms that can leave the classroom in the absence of the teacher. So when the teacher is out of the building, you know, for a sick leave or professional day

055or out for an extended period of time, you know, they can take over and not necessarily need a teacher sub, they can be the the teacher or record basically inside the classroom and then fairly compensating them for the hours spent in that. So, in addition to what the normal pair professional rate would be, if they were going to be the lead person for the entire day, they would have an additional $50. If they're doing half day, they have an additional $25 as a just compensating for the additional work that they're doing in that particular classroom. Um, any questions? Roll call, please. Mrs. Children, >> yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. >> Mr. Hick, >> yes. Mr. Ryan, >> yes. Mr. >> Yes. Motion passes. >> Letter K is a recommend to amend the nursing substitute paid

056for licensed practical nurses and registered nurses to $25 per hour, not to exceed seven hours of the day. Do I have a motion to amend the nurses substitute pay for those that are licensed practical nurses and registered nurses to $25 per hour and not to exceed 7 hours per day? Motion second, please. Any comments or questions? Roll call, please. Oh, I was just going to say we didn't have right now we didn't have a true substitute for nurses. It was just lump under teachers. They were getting paid $100 a day looking to have a registered nurse again in that role. We try to be a little competitive in that regard. >> Roll call, please. >> Mr. >> Yes. >> Mr. Mr. >> Yes. Motion passes. Okay, that looks like all that we have there for

057the superintendent report, but I apologize to everyone. I just asked this during other business or new business and it's not really new business. Just we instituted after school day child care this year, right? How's that working out? We have kids. We don't have numbers right now that we anticipate. That's one of the things we have I think a follow up to next week. I think so >> next week with the coordinator kind of figure out how do we get that message out a little bit more and you know if we want to expand that to care you know some additional you know opportunities that they have that their organization right now it's just after school it's after school and it's it's not very large the original intent was you know when we're going from full

058day kinderg before preschool to half day preschool. The intent was to have have it there for the kids that are in afternoon preschool. They could come here in the morning and they could be in the in the in the daycare in the morning and then they would just go shift right into preschool in the afternoon. And then conversely, kids that are in the morning preschool could go to afternoon daycare. So that the idea was to help alleviate u shuffling kids and all those kind of things. But I don't think our our preschool classes correct me if I'm wrong please. I don't think our preschool classes are full. Correct. >> It depends. I think our afternoon is not full. Our morning is more has more students in it because those are the kids that bus. Okay.

059So the preschool kids that take a bus, you know, to and from school but the afternoon. So not not too many. So that was the original intent. I know that for one reason or another we weren't able to make that happen. Think it was part of company. I don't know. It doesn't matter. But that might be something to try to see if we can do that. Would be nice for our families do that right. you can't drop your kids off until >> and morning care. Yeah. As well as the the preschool. So all those could help show more value, but I don't know if a lot of people know about that. I didn't know about that. That was like that was the intent last year when we were pulling out the preschool program. >> Yeah.

060I think we will have to start looking at spaces, you know, and trying to gather interest, you know, for a program like that. We have to to really get with those families in preschool, try identify if that's something that they're willing to to invest in. If they are, then we can explore spaces, which is a little more challenging with, you know, preschools and daycarees because they have to have their own facilities, bathroom, and and access, you know, to meals and refrigerator and all that, but It's not it is possible. It's just going to take a little just we need to make sure we have the right amount of interest to to war invest in that. And it's one of those things they're paying for in a lot of cases they're paying for child care anyhow

061and it would just be so much more convenient to if it was they come here and they're here as if we had it all day. Another another option we have is uh if we had a plethora of bus drivers, you know, we could potentially have some partnerships with some local, you know, local daycarees or something like that, but we're struggling to find additional unfortunately there's not that many one in that water and I don't even know any I'm sure there's one in Alliance. probably one of them not a lot. >> Yeah, >> they were five star rated I saw. So they must be but anyhow I just wanted to bring that up for starting your business. Okay so that brings us to treasur business. Mr. Carson, I'd like to recommend approving the uh October board

062meeting. >> Okay. Have a motion to approve the October board meeting. >> Second, please. I'll second. How much are questions? Roll call, please. >> Yes. Mr. [Music] >> Yes. Thanks. like recommend approve the October financials. Have >> a motion to approve the October financials. >> Motion second, please. >> Second. Any comments or questions? >> Roll call, please. >> Mr. >> Yes. >> Mr. Hick. >> Yes. Mr. R. >> Yes. Yes. Motion passes. >> Um like recommend the establishment of the following fund for K12 connectivity. >> A motion to approve the fund for K12 connectivity. >> Motion second. Please >> what is that? Um the look, we've gotten it a couple of times. We got it last year, too. Um we were rewarded $3,000. A lot of schools got it. Um you can use it towards

063um any kind of like internet services, anything technology related. Um you can also apply it for something you've already spended money on. So We got it here. Any other comments or questions? Roll call, please. >> Yes. >> Mr. >> Yes. Motion passes. I would like to recommend to approve the following appropriation amendments by fund. Have >> a motion to approve the adjusted uh appropriations. Motion second, please. >> I'll second. >> Any comments or questions? >> Roll call, please. >> Mr. >> Yes. >> Mer. >> Yes. >> Mr. Wise. >> Yes. >> Mr. Hagen. >> Yes. district. >> Yes. Motion passes. >> Okay. Another thing I talked about last year we applied for some really big grants. Are those coming up again? Because that's through our star, right? The one we aren't even supposed to hear.

064[Music] >> That was the big facility one. >> No, that was one that Joe wrote for >> electronic TVs and stuff. >> Yeah. >> Rust grant. Yeah. I I think it was supposed to I mean with the shutdown it probably is delayed >> but I think we should have heard at this point >> that other facility we were not open yet, >> right? I knew we weren't awarded, but I thought we thought it was going to come back, but it hasn't come back. >> Well, it did, and for some reason, we weren't qualifying for it a second time, but I still am in contact with them, and they said they still have us on the list to watch to apply. So, >> that was you. I remember that was >> it was a lot of

06525y old issues. >> Yes. >> 25 years old. Yeah, >> there was a bus safety grant process or they came out not too long ago, but the things that that they were really looking for are things that we're in good shape with. So, we really didn't apply for this. Now, we have a safety grant that we can apply for that's upcoming. So, you can look at that and see if you know what are some of the things that we might apply to that. One of the things we're talking about at length is you know our our key situation for building and how that helps improve some of our safety features. So that might be a part of that application process. >> And I did just open up some of the BWC grants again. Those are

066>> great. Thank you. We're we're very lucky to have those two ladies over there. Barb does such phenomenal job with facilities. We're lucky to have everybody in this room, but those they do such a nice job and he just so we appreciate. >> Oh, can I mention one more thing? >> No. >> This is our head baseball coach, Zachary Rogers. Mr. baseball coach on staff. Awesome. >> Thank you guys. Sorry for my late arrival there, but I'm super excited to get started and just thank you guys for having me tonight. For sure. >> When when are you allowed to start workouts and stuff? >> We start Tuesday. So pretty. Uh we did some work on the field last Friday. Got out there, got the infield prepped. Um once it dries up a little bit, we're

067going to start spreading dirt, getting ready for spring. And then Tuesday, we had our first workout. Um pretty solid turnout. Had another one today, even better turnout. So numbers are starting to go up. Kids look like they're starting to buy in. Um just it's really cool to see, you know, a a program um that I think has has a ton of potential and kids seem to really be hungry to play baseball um and and to learn and grow from playing in school. So, I'm super excited that you know I get the opportunity to lead it especially with you know everybody here who's been nothing but supportive of me since um you know I accepted the position. So, I just wanted to thank you guys and I couldn't be more excited to work with you and

068get going. >> Awesome. That is great. Yeah, because we, you know, baseball historically haven't gotten the early start like we, you know, would like to and all those kind like what you're doing now. So, that's phenomenal watching. We have a lot of lot of great coaches, younger coaches, and people really invested in the community really trying to build program, not just lead their high school team, trying to bridge a gap to the middle school and youth. So we can start and get to our altern. Okay. Anybody have any other things to bring up? If not, we will adjourn the meeting. >> I forgot to say something so important. >> It's too late. >> No, now I'm allowed >> this Saturday. Come join our first annual turkey truck and enjoy our new track. There are amazing

069raffle prizes, popcorn, hot cocoa, and good balls. >> I want to be there. [Applause] >> Every time you get a a feather and we're allowed to go, you know, >> you can you can do that. Are you volunteering?
