Our treasurer will be running the meeting this evening since our superintendent is ill and um I think something's going around. I got a little bit something but um I'm healthy enough to be here >> but I always have something out of 12. >> So can we get the roll call? >> Uh goodight. >> Yes. >> Starcher here. Austin >> here. >> Koozma >> here. >> Fine >> here. >> Please stand for the pledge. I pledge allegiance >> to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Thanks. Okay, we need a motion to approve the October 21st, 2025 board agenda as presented and amended. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Okay. >> Questions. >> Kleinhens. >>
Yes. >> Husma. >> Yes. >> Starcher. Yes. >> Yes. Oops. >> Austin. >> Yes. >> Good. Right. >> Yes. started. >> Now, we need a motion to approve the minutes of the September 16th, 2025 board of education regular session. >> So moved. >> Second, >> questions. >> Uh Starcher, >> yes. >> Austin, >> yes. >> Goodight, >> yes. >> Kleinhens, >> yes. >> Koozma, >> yes. Okay, we're going to move into our favorite part of the meeting and that would be recognitions. Student recognitions. So, I think we're looks like we're starting out with Keen. Okay. >> Right. Good evening. Uh good evening, President Goodright, board, parents. Welcome. Um I first uh really I just want to first thank um before we get started our two teachers, Mrs. Keen, Mrs. Kenir and Mrs. Ken Brew. Um
you know, you just have really dedicated teachers who put in a long day of work and then just to take the time to come in here and recognize our students. So I I just want to thank you guys for being here. Um, but before I turn the time over to them to recognize their wonderful students, I'd just like their parents to stand up. Uh, McKenna's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harklaw. Harklow and Yes. and Patrick's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Aad. [Applause] Thank you. And I'll turn the time over to Mrs. Kru. I am so excited to nominate Patrick for board recognition tonight. Since his first day of kindergarten, Patrick has come to school each day ready to be a great leader in our classroom and in our school. He shows kindness to others, works hard, and
is always willing to help. In his very short time at kindergarten at Keen, he has already stepped up as a leader in big ways. He has applied for the student lighthouse team. He had an interview and he earned a spot on that team. He also applied for a school leadership role and is now a part of the Monday morning birthday band. Patrick's favorite part about school is math and writing numbers. When he's not in school, Patrick enjoys laying on the couch and watching football, especially the Buffalo Bills, who I think you actually play for, right? >> Yes. Um, Patrick's friends had these kind words to say about him. One friend said, "He is really nice and he has been my friend all year, and he always lets me play with him." Another classmate said, "Patrick
asked me to be his friend, and I said yes because we both like to do math together." Congratulations, Patrick. We are so proud of you. [Applause] Okay, I have McKenna with me tonight. So, I just have a few little things I want to share about her. McKenna likes to go swimming into the zoo. She enjoys playing cards with her dad and jumping on her trampoline. Her favorite toy is her Barbie doll. She wants to be a veterinarian for bunnies when she grows up. And her favorite food is a turkey sandwich. McKenna is such a joy to have in our class. She comes to school each day with a big smile and a great attitude, ready to learn and try her best. She listens carefully, follows directions, and works hard on every activity we do. She
is willing to participate in activities and volunteers when needed. Whether we're reading, writing, or learning something new in math, McKenna gives her best effort and sets a wonderful example for others. However, the most commendable quality in McKenna's character. McKenna speaks kindly to her friends and is always ready to help those who need it. She has the best smile that is welcoming to those around her, and her positivity and kind heart make her our classroom better. She shows what it means to be respectful, responsible, and kind every single day. And I asked a couple of her friends what they think about McKenna as a friend, and this is what they had to say. She is really kind to people, and I like that she is my friend. She helps people up when they fall down or
when they are hurt, and she pushes me on the swing and plays with me during recess, and she shares her crayons with me. McKenna, you remind us every day how much kindness and effort can brighten a classroom. Keep up the amazing work. [Applause] Move on to Melrose. Good evening. My name is Jamie Tucker. I'm the principal at Melrose Elementary. Uh we are recognizing two third grade students today. The first is Linda Machwa who's here with mom and dad. If you can wave to be recognized. Linda was nominated by his third grade teacher, Mrs. Wilson. Um, she was unable to attend tonight, so I'm going to read her nomination for her. Lindo is such an awesome student. He is a leader in the classroom. One thing I love about Lindo is that he leads by example.
He is always focused on his work, listening to lessons. Bring it down. Working collaboratively in groups and having fun. He works extremely hard to learn new things. Lindo is not afraid to share his thoughts during class discussions. He is often ready to raise a hand or give a thumbs up when I am looking for volunteers. Lindo is also willing to ask for help. When he does this, I can see how eager he is to truly understand the new concepts. Lindo is kind to every single student that walks through the doors of Melrose. He does an exceptional job at following the eight habits that we practice. Lindo's voice may be quiet, but it surely speaks volumes in our classroom. I am so proud of him and all that he has done. I can't wait to continue
to watch him learn and grow this year. Congratulations, Lindo. Keep up the great work. [Applause] >> Congratulations. >> Okay. Congratulations. No, thank you. Next, we are going to recognize Genevie Schaefer, who's here with her mom and sister. If you can wave to be recognized. I'm going to let Mrs. Hiller, her third grade teacher, read her nomination. I have nominated Jenna Schaefer to be board of education student of the month. Jenna goes above and beyond in everything she does. She goes out of her way to be friendly and kind to everyone. She works hard to do her best work and is always participating, which positively impacts everyone's learning. She is often setting the example for others to follow is and is and is one of the first to jump to help when she needs she sees
a need. Jenna's positive attributes aren't limited to our classroom. Her genuine love for other people and her school is evident in the cafeteria, gym, art, library, music, and recess. Everyone at Melrose loves Jenna. Kindness is a gift everyone can afford to give and we are so lucky to have Jenna sharing her smile, wonderful personality and kindness with us each day. Congratulations, Jenna. [Applause] We're moving on to Park View. Hi, my name is Katie Roth and I'm the principal of Park View Elementary. I am so excited to share two of our wonderful Park View leaders. Um the first is Jakari Lee. Jakari is joined by his mom, dad, and grandpa. If you want to stand or wave to be recognized. [Applause] So Jakari is also here with his teacher, Mrs. Condo, who's um here to share
some um things that make Jakari a wonderful student at Parkview. Jakari is a leader who shows constant empathy and kindness in our classroom. He is always working to include others, modeling habit four, think when win. He consistently looks for ways to help his classmates and teachers. Every Friday, students have a free choice time on Clever for Technology. Jakari approached me and asked if he could take that time and read to two of our multilingual students. He has a heart where he wants everyone to succeed and achieve and he does his best to help him them get there. He's a talented athlete, but that doesn't stop him from including everyone at recess. Jakari admits if he's made a mistake and he if he has a disagreement with someone, he's sure to listen and talk it out
with them. Truly modeling habit five. Seek first to understand and then be understood. He comes to school each day with a smile and a good attitude. I am so proud of Jakari and the kindness and compassion he shows to everyone. I'm so thankful that he is part of our classroom family. Good job. [Applause] Our next board of education student of the month is Jamie Critlo. Jamie is joined by her mom and dad. If you want to stand or wave to be recognized. [Applause] Jaime is also here with Mrs. Glover, her teacher, to share what makes Jamie so special in the classroom. Please place your hand on your heart and think of someone that has touched your life. Did that thought make you smile? My second grade friend Jamie has touched my heart and makes me
smile daily. Leaders come in all shapes and sizes. Some with flash and dash, some with determined eagerness, and some with a quiet naturalness that encourages others to follow. Jaime is the latter. She is thoughtful, always listening with her ears, eyes, and heart. She's empathetic and aware of the needs of her classmates. She will gently offer help or model our eight classroom habits. She's joyful, giggles, and gets my humor, which in my book is a definite leadership quality. But most of all, Jaime's natural curiosity and quiet determination are to be admired. For example, early in the school year, while at morning recess, Jaime approached me. She stated she wanted to learn how to play four square and if I could help her. We walked over to the group of boys who were playing the game. I
explained to them that Jaime was interested in learning the game and asked them to share the rules. I stepped back and I watched. Jaime asked questions and examples of how to make the serves. She then stepped into the square and confidently said, "Let's play." Since that morning, Jaime has softly and gently encouraged others to try to play and do their very best. A moment that touches our hearts. Jamie, congratulations for being such a great leader. [Applause] It's wonderful. Uh-huh. >> Cornerstone. >> Good evening everyone. Good evening members of the board. My name is Gabrielle Montgomery. I am the proud principal at Cornerstone Elementary. I have two incredible second grade leaders I'm excited to share with you this evening. The first I have here is Drayden Bolley. He is joined this evening by his parents and
siblings. If you would like to stand or wave to be recognized [Applause] and Dre's second grade teacher, Mr. Smith, is here to share his nomination. Well, it was an easy decision to choose Drayton Bolley as my student leader of the month. I was so happy to see Dre on my class list because I know from past experience, he's a good one. So, full disclosure, his mom was in my class a few years ago as well. Could have brought the yearbook and I forgot. Um, so she was a sweetie and I knew he would be as well. Dre just loves school. He comes each day with a big smile and enthusiasm to learn. Uh he's a bit of an old soul and I think of him kind of as the mayor of third floor at Cornerstone.
Dre is just constantly thinking of others and checking in on others. Whether he's checking in with his classmates or asking adults how their day is going, he's always looking for ways to help brighten someone's day. It was a few weeks into school and we were talking about a a parrot named Mr. Steel and his name came up in conversation and he's like, "Who is that guy anyway? I haven't seen him yet." So, I let him know that Mr. Steel was still okay and and then we checked in with Mr. Steel. So, Dre's kindness and empathy makes him someone who can connect with just about anyone. Dre is kind and caring and can get along with everyone. He's a good listener and as our class mission statement says, he tries even when it's hard. And honestly,
Drayden makes me laugh every day. I genuinely enjoy our conversations and I love hearing his unique ideas. Uh we were practicing inner communication skills the other day and the topic was um how old should you be when you get married? He's got some good ideas. Their kids are smart. Yeah, it's not happening soon, Mom. Maybe not at all. Um, he brings he brings so much positivity to our classroom. So, thank you, Dre, for being you. Keep working hard and being the best the best Dre you can be. And thank your parents, too, because they're doing an amazing job. Thank you. [Applause] Our second cornerstone leader to recognize this evening is Kyrie Kroom. Kyrie is joined by his family. If you would like to stand or wave to be recognized. And Kyrie's teacher, Mrs. Anderson, is
here to share his nomination. Although Kyrie has only been in second grade for three months, he has already shown what it means to be an exceptional student. He is a dedicated and hard-working young learner who consistently completes his assignments and is always eager to help his classmates. And I was just thinking about this the other day. Um, a few weeks ago we were outside for recess and we had a student who didn't know how to play, was it basketball or soccer? >> Football. He didn't know how to catch a football. And Kyrie took time out of his recess to teach him how to catch and throw a football and the other student came in just beaming with like pride and joy because somebody had taken their time to show them how to catch and throw
a football. So, good job. Kyrie approaches every subject, whether it's math, reading, or science, with curiosity and enthusiasm. He brings joy to our classroom each day with his bright smile, infectuous sense of humor, and his love for sharing interesting facts and ideas he's always got. Did you know, and then he'll carry on with some fun fact for me, it is a true pleasure to teach Kyrie. His positive attitude and eagerness to learn make him a standout student and I'm honored to have him in my second grade class. Congratulations. [Applause] >> Edgewood. We're ready. >> Smile. >> All right. Hello. My name is Heidi Hos. I am the principal at Edgewood Middle School and I always get so excited because I'm right in the middle where I get to see all the amazing kids that are
going to be coming to me and I get to brag about our kids and then I get to see our kids go on and do great things in high school. So, I'm the sweet spot. I feel like we're right in the middle, right where all the fun stuff happens. So, I have two three kiddos today. Two that are October uh students of the month and one from uh last time that is going to come today that didn't get to be here last time. So, first up um we are going to go with Maddie Harrington and she's got mom Stacy, dad Rob, and sister Abby. So, if you want to wave. All right. [Music] And Maddie, I have Mrs. Wilt Trout here to brag about you. You ready? All right. Here we go. Okay, I know
I speak for the whole team when I say that Maddie was a very easy choice for student of the month. Um, when we think about our rise expectations at Edgewood, Maddie Harrington goes above and beyond the rise expectations. She is always responsible for making sure all her work gets done and she's also willing to help others get their work done as well. Um, we can count on her to be prepared for class with all her necessary materials, which is a challenge for sixth graders at Edgewood because they're going from class to class and sometimes have to stop at their lockers. But she is always there and prepared and ready to go. Um, she follows directions the first time she is asked. She takes engagement to the next level by completing extra credit assignments. And in
addition to exceeding expectations in her regular classes, Maddie and I got to hang out during an extra recess one time and she shared with me that she is also involved in band and that she is an avid swimmer. So, she's involved in lots of things. Give Maddie a hand. >> You're welcome. I think Maddie gets some extra help with her swimming. She knows a guy >> indeed. >> All right. So, next up we have John Medicalall and he's here with grandma Dorothy, mom Tracy, and sister Angelina. If you want to wave. All right. All right, John. Mrs. Wilchel's going to brag about you. Okay. All right, John's a little nervous to be standing up here tonight, but trust me, he is not like that during the day at school at all. He's actually very outgoing,
but the crowd has him a little bit nervous. But John is a very hardworking student. He works very hard in all of his classes. He tries his best um in everything that he does and helps others to do the same. He's always willing to help others in his class. um and be partners with different kids in the class that need um extra help. He sets the example for other students by always being prepared and organized. John loves to play gaga ball at recess and he often makes sure others know how to play the game and that they know the rules of playing the game so everybody has a fair shot. Um he participates in band at Edgewood. What do you play? >> Trumpet. He plays the trumpet. And um John is always willing to share
how much he loves dinosaurs. Um and when he grows up, he aspires to be a paleontologist. Everybody give John a hand. All right. And last up, uh, we have Will Snowbar and he is joined by mom Jen, dad Mike, sister Sarah, and grandma and grandpa are in the crowd, too. I see they they're in the loge in the back. if you want to wave. And as I mentioned before, Will was actually nominated last month, but he wasn't he wasn't able to make it. And I'll highlight why later on in the story, but I get the joy of introducing you and bragging about you a little bit tonight. So, your team, the Phoenix team, wrote that Will is a stellar student. He is a classroom leader, and he loves to help all of those around him.
He has logical thinking skills that are extraordinary and he always goes above and beyond to achieve mastery in all learning areas. Will's hard work ethic will ensure his success as he continues his education throughout Worcester City Schools. He is a wonderful addition to the Phoenix team and we are so fortunate to have him. Will always follows the rise up expectation. Even though one of the letters is safety and Will made a choice that wasn't his safest bet. He wore flip-flop slides to play football while having a broken wrist and a cast on that wrist. He then tripped and broke his opposite collar bone. But I've got to say, even though it wasn't his safest choice, even when he was in so much pain, he was so polite, so respectful. Um he had integrity the entire
time. even when dad came to pick him up and wasn't very happy. Um, he so I tease a lot, but Will really is such a neat kid and I've had the joy of knowing him since he was a little baby and watching him grow up into the man he's become has really been a joy of mine. So, Will, congratulations for being the student of the month. We're all so proud of you. [Applause] Mr. High. >> Good evening everyone. Uh my name is Steve Furlong. I'm an assistant principal at Worcester High School. We have two students of the month for October. Both ninth grade students. Um the first here is Grace Hawkins. her dad Chris, mom, Alicia, and brother Graham are here. If you'd wave and be recognized, Grace was nominated by Miss Stokes. And Miss
Stokes is here to share why. >> Right. Well, thank you for letting me be here this evening, and it is my sincere pleasure to celebrate Miss Grace Hawkins tonight. She is my ray of sunshine every day when I come into the classroom and when she comes into the classroom. She always brings such a positive energy to the classroom and to the class. Not only does she excel academically, but she also demonstrates outstanding character, leadership, and just pure kindness that and when we were talking about rise, I think one of the teachers mentioned rise, you just fulfill all those requirements of rise and I've seen her in action in her partner work when she's grouped with other people and people maybe that she doesn't know. She just embraces them. you're just very kind to them. You
help them along and have witnessed that and it's just a wonderful thing to see. These are qualities that make our school a better place. I also had the privilege of being with her. she had to make up a test and um she was absent and very conscientious about getting it made up and came in and we just had this wonderful talk and she was telling me of some things you know that she was dealing with in school and and I just looked at her and I thought what just a beautiful soul and an old soul and she was so mature about handling things. Um I just was really impressed by this young lady. So, I want to thank you, Gracia. That would be her name in espanol. For being such a positive role model, little
brother, heads up. All right. With your big sis there, you have a positive impact on all of those around you. And your name fits you well, Miss Grace. [Applause] >> And thank you to her parents, too. Yeah, you. Okay. Our second student of the month, another ninth grader, Braden Burns. He's also accompanied by his dad, Jeremy, and brother, Noah. If you'd wave and be recognized. [Applause] Braden was nominated by his teacher, Mr. Montgomery, and he's here to share why. Hello everyone. Um, it is my privilege to be able to um, uh, introduce Braden to you and it's my privilege to be his world studies teacher. Um, Braden is a model student. I wish I could have a whole class of Bradens. Um although I will say since I can't have a whole class of them,
I am glad he's in my sixth period because of all my periods, that's the one that could could use a good role model. Um I believe he exhibits all of the qualities that every teacher hopes to see in their students. First of all, he is a very hard worker. He makes sure he gets all of his assignments done completely and on time. He's conscientious about all of that. And when I sit down to grade Braden's assignments, I can I can know, oh, there's Braden's name at the top. I have some quality work I get to grade. He is also consistently respectful and kind in class. He consistently brings a cand do attitude to class. Um, and I can tell even if maybe it's not his favorite type of assignment, he just buckles in and he
gets it done. Um, he also regularly participates in class with positive, relevant contributions to class discussions and and one of the things that impresses me most about Braden is I I guess I would say perseverance because every once in a while, not often, but every once in a while, he'll volunteer an answer to a question and it might not be right. Now, some students when that happens, they might maybe get a little embarrassed or take it personally or withdraw a little bit and not continue to engage and but not Braden. He will keep going at it and he will persevere. He will try again until he understands it and he gets it right. And that is a great quality to have. So Braden's perseverance, diligence, engagement, and respect are why he's here today getting recognized
as student of the month. Congratulations, Braden, and keep up the good work. Okay, we're going to move on with our board meeting. However, um for those of you who haven't eaten dinner and want to move on to home, this is a good segue to do that. >> But you're welcome to stay. and Grace Hal, our communications coordinator, will share a report on the district's communication strategy and procedures. >> Grace, the floor is all yours. >> All right. Hi, everyone. Thank you so much for having me. I will say one of the perks of being the communications coordinator is that I'm behind the camera typically. So, this is a little bit out of my wheelhouse, but I'm really fortunate to get to do what I get to do here. And so, I'm excited to share with
it share it with you tonight. Um, a little bit of background on me. I've been with the district since the end of 2023. I was in the maintenance secretary role for about a year, transitioned to the treasur's office where I got to work really closely with Amy for a few months and then this role opened up and I transitioned into um the communications role which um fit pretty neatly because my background is in marketing and public relations and my degree is in communications. So um sad to leave Amy but uh excited to step into this and get to do what I get to do. Okay. So, I wanted to start this yellow chart that you guys see is um kind of the bulk of what this presentation is going to cover. It's a neat way
to divide out the different communication mediums we use and the frequency in which we use them. And they are all very targeted to um be put out to two different um groups. So, we have our internal audiences, which would be our um staff and anyone who works in the district, anyone who's employed, your internal people, and then an external audience, which includes our parents, community members, um people who don't have the inside um intel of working in the district. And then there's a few people like myself who fall under both. I have a kiddo in the district and um work here. So um we are going to dive into this a little bit more as the presentation goes on but if you just want to glance over it there's things listed on listed on the
left of the chart that is all of the things that we release and at the top it's the frequency which we release them. So I'm not just a onewoman show. Um we do have a lot of support groups that help us to um make our communication the best it can be. We work closely with the Impact Group. They're a firm out of Hudson and they provide oversight for us. They help us with some print communications. They help us with some press releases. Um we meet with them pretty frequently and they're just a great resource for us to be able to utilize. Um, we also have the business advisory council which is made up of a group of area business people um who provide oversight as well and I work really closely with the communications subcommittee
of that and we meet once a month and they provide great feedback. They help um generate ideas. They let us know what they're seeing, what they'd like to see more of. It's just a great way for us to um hear from the outside in and help us to um better our communication tactics. And then the last group is our key communicators. This group hasn't been fully rolled out just yet. We're hoping to do that in the next few months. But the idea of this group is that they are going to help us with word of mouth communication. So people that would be on this are people who already have a platform. um might be social influencers or just have a great network that they're willing to utilize to help talk about the great things that
the school is doing. Bring us feedback back from what they're hearing and just be a really collaborative um group where we can continue to learn and grow. So my goals when I communicate is one to not overcommunicate. I want people to know when the school is pushing something out that it's relevant and important. Um, I don't want to oversaturate anything that we're putting out because again, I want it to mean something. So, um, another goal I have is to share the great things that are happening because in a district there are so many good things that are happening. I don't really have to go create content. I just get to go observe it and it's really cool to see the passion that our educators have, the great job that our staff does and I enjoy
getting to just go share the great things that are happening and then maintaining consistency. So, I want people again to recognize what we do and when and um just not not be oversaturating and not be not doing enough. So, just have a really smooth rhythm for when we're sharing things, connecting with all audiences. That refers back to our internal and external groups. Just wanting to make sure that they're getting all the information they need. And then when I say bridge the gap, I mean the people that don't have a direct investment in the district. People who don't have children or grandchildren or don't know anyone who works here. People who may live in the community but don't know anything about the district. I really want to connect with them to show what the district is
doing and why it's valuable to them that our district is strong and um doing great things. So I want to target our frequent communication mediums. So referring if you think back to that yellow chart, these are the things that I post as needed or daily. Um our social media is obviously one of the most obvious things that we do. It is um probably one of the most far-reaching things that we have. We post mostly on Facebook and Instagram. Um YouTube too if you count that as a social media platform. Um and I try to post on that really regularly just because it's a really easy way to push things out. It's a great way to highlight the great things that are happening and um it's just it's a it's a an everyday part of everyone's
life at this point. So um that's a priority. Parent Square is a new platform that we rolled out this year and I like to tell everyone how much I love Parent Square. Now I wasn't with the district when we had other platforms um but Parent Square is just really user friendly. It's really diverse in the ways that you can utilize it. Um, you can use it for communicating externally like our general minute newsletter newsletter that goes out at the beginning of each month that goes out through parent square that hits our community and our um internal audiences. Um, but it can also be for teachers to communicate with parents um directly with their classes. It can you can do something where you target um just the community. You can do something where you target um
just parents. you can do something where you target community parents and families and students. So, it's just it's really user friendly and there's a lot of different ways that we can use that. Um, it's how we uh notify about school closures. Um, so Parent Square is a really really great resource for us. And lastly, our press releases. This is when we want to get a piece of information out to our broader audiences. Obviously, it goes to our media contacts. It's usually larger news stories, not quite as frequently, but still pretty regular that we're releasing those. Our monthly communication mediums. So, these are some of my favorite things that we get to do. Um, I alluded to the general minute already, but that goes out at the beginning of each month. And this is a newsletter
that we send out that kind of highlights what's coming up in the month ahead. Um, our diversity calendar. It does a recap of what happened the month prior. Um it's just a a really great catchall for things happening in the district and that does go out to our community members. People can sign up to um be on that uh email list and it also gets shared to Facebook. So it's also open to people who just follow us on Facebook. Um but a great resource. The general's report is a letter that comes out from Gabe every month. It's inserted in the Worcester Weekly and we also post it on our website and on our social media and it just highlights something specific that is happening that is um just a great thing. And then our tutor
talks are our last thing that we do and they're videos so a little bit different and we have two different versions of these now. So the regular tutor talks are usually two to three minutes. This is from Gabe. He either is by himself or he's interviewing a student or someone in the district, but keeping it short and sweet. And then our tutor talks inside Woo Edition are our long form communications that we just rolled out. Think more podcast style where we get in the nitty-gritty, get more in the weeds of different things. We released one last month with Amy and Brian and we talked about facilities and um the financing that goes behind the decision- making for facilities repairs and everything. I'd encourage everyone to listen to that. It was really helpful. Even though I've
been with the district and know a lot about it, it was still really relevant information. We've got a few more coming up and those come out once a month. So stay tuned for more of those. And lastly, our less frequent, these are our annual and semiannual publications. Our quality profile is an annual report that we release every fall, end of the year. Our 2026 one should be coming out here soon. Um, but it's an annual report that kind of highlights the facts and figures for um, the district. So, it has the class of the previous graduating class, their profile. It has um enrollment numbers, different programs that we offer. It's a really great resource. Think if you were um and wanting to enroll your student in our district, that would be the piece that you
would want to look at just because it highlights so many things. A very broad overview. And our community newsletter comes out twice a year in the fall and the spring. and that is a printed piece that goes out in the Worcester weekly that will reach our um further um public that's not within just our network and that highlights just various things as well. We have one coming out this fall that will highlight the strategic plan and um it's just a great resource again to reach further than what our typical network is. And that about covers it. I'll keep it short and sweet, but if anyone has any questions, please feel free to reach out. You have have any ideas, I'm open to those as well, but I really appreciate you all letting me be here
tonight. >> Wonderful questions from the board. >> No, just I mean just a comment. So, I mean, communication is hard. Um, just in today's world, there's so many ways to communicate and you guys are doing a great job and we know we can always do better, but I think the consistency that you have, I mean, this chart is fantastic. just the consistency we have and I mean you're sticking to it and so you know families and community know what to expect and when to expect if people want to be informed um they can find it. So thank you very much. >> Thank you. >> I think it's an area that keeps improving. I think it's something that we've made a proactive effort on and and your guys' teams doing a great job. >> Yep. >>
I think every day we I mean with all the things at our disposal we communicate better and better every day. So but thanks for doing that. You're doing a great job. >> Thank you. Okay, now we're going to move on to public participation on agenda items. Have none. We'll move on to our consent agenda for the treasurer. A motion to approve the consent agenda for the treasurer. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Um so tonight I have the um fiscal report for um month end September 30th of 2025. So this this um financial report is based on our for the forecast that we approved last month. Um so um as of right now our revenue is trending favorably and um most of that is on unrestricted and restricted state aid um is favorable. But I'm
kind of um curious to see what's going to happen at the end of this month because our actual state funding will be updated and will reflect on the student enrollment that we reported at the beginning of the month. So, um, that'll give us a better idea of what our state aid is going to look like. Um, particularly in restricted to like our cur ed programs. Our enrollment for those obviously is a lot higher than it has been um, previously. Um, as far as expenditures right now, you know, we are favorable in that regard. Um, salary and benefits um, obviously is uh, pretty steady. our purchase services um right now is um in pretty good shape. Um we never know what kind of expenses we are going to see as the year goes on um just
because those are some of our kiddos that we send to other schools and you know pay for tuition and transportation. Um but some of our other expenses are are are a little bit higher just our um you know supplies and and capital outlay at this point. But overall, you know, we are we are in a good spot. Um um we're just going to have to see what I think what next month brings because we'll have a little bit better idea of what our state funding will look like. As far as donations tonight, um we um of course have Panera who um we're recognizing them and donating the cards for the student of the month. Um we've had donations to cover some delinquent lunch balances and these would have been from previous years because obviously we
have um free lunch uh this year. We have a couple donations for PBIS program at Edgewood and then um a donation for the girls basketball team. And then the last donation um or the last two um you know uh Buckeye Council donated some backpacks for our students with supplies in them. But then uh Stephanie and Michael Rearen donated um t-shirts for every staff member and every student in the district for um the millions million acts of kindness. So I do believe I saw an email go out that they're encouraging people to wear those Friday. Awesome. So um They're really cool t-shirts. Um, and then I do have two new funds to bring to you tonight. Uh, we had one of our teachers apply for Wayne County Community Foundation grant for whiteboards in the classroom in
math, I believe. And then, um, Molly and Joselyn talked last week about the literacy grant we received. So, this is a new fund to create um, for that grant. The amount that you see here is just for the first year. So, it's a four-year grant. And this is the amount that we will receive for fiscal year 26. And that is my report. >> I did notice the um write up in the Worester Weekly about that literacy grant today. So, that was a real good um write up. Was that today or that when it came out this week? >> I read it sometime this week. Yeah. Good. Right. >> Yes. >> Starcher, >> yes. >> Austin, >> yes. >> Kusma, >> yes. >> Klein, >> yes. >> Move on to new business. Consent agenda for the
superintendent. Need a motion to approve the consent agenda of the superintendent. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Okay. I have my notes from Gabe, so I'm going to try to do a good job of uh you know, of uh relaying his his message tonight. But um so our employment tonight, we don't have um many things um to approve just because we did some employment last month at the work session. Um but we do have um one retirement um a science teacher at the high school um will be retiring at the end of the school year. As far as our um certified personnel employment, we have uh Jennifer Carlton, Bailey Sheridan, who are going to be um covering some um uh FMLA FMLA leaves or some uh positions that um have become available. As far as
our classified um uh leaves on 6.03, um we have four FMLA leaves for your approval tonight. And then as the classified employment, we uh have just supplementals on there. Um a couple changes to our supplemental contracts um for uh fall sports. We are bringing to you tonight the calendar for the next academic year, so 26 27 year. Um Gabe just wanted to make a couple comments. very similar to last year. We have four days um that are going to start the year with teachers before the student starts to do some PD and and get ready for the school year. So that first week will be a little bit shorter um for students. Of course, there's that one day um for fair and then um spring break is is really the same week again as it
was last year. And then next we have the uh middle school speech and debate debate team. These always overnight trips always come to you to the board um for approval. Next we have our payment in lie of transportation resolution. Um and and this we bring to you every year about this time. These are students that go to um private schools in the area and um you know part of that is we pay their average cost of transportation. So the resolution is here along with the list of families that are eligible to apply. The next one is a a contract with the Christian Children's Home which is a courtplace student within our district. Um so we bring those to you and then uh the rest of the consent agenda is really about policy. These are the
first read. Um we had a policy meeting was that last week Joy that we just had that um where our policy committee came together with Niola talked about the policies. Um but again these um are here as your first read so you can review them. um you know, please see Gabe if you have any questions, but some of these are come from um as a result of House Bill 96, which is the budget bill, but of course, there's so much more that's included in that. Um you know, some definitions of sexual harassment. It clarifies um athletes regarding bullying. Um driver's ed is now permitted as an excused absence from school. So, that's in there. There's some attendance law changes. Um release time education. There's clarification um within the policy. Truency absenteeism is no longer a
factor in student grade retention. Um clarification of paying by credit cards, cyber security um procedures, uh suicide hotline for students, um you know, there's some um prevention training for staff. And then um there's a policy about um um eating permission on non-rine routine trips that we're already doing. So there's a lot of policies in there. So happy >> but that is Gab's consenting agenda. >> Okay. Good. Right. >> Yes. >> Starcher. >> Yes. >> Austin. >> Yes. >> KMA. >> Yes. Kleinhens. >> Yes. >> Okay. We're going to move on to the um treasur's regular agenda. >> Uh motion to consider u then and now certificates as recommended. >> So moved. >> Second. >> So I have two then announced certificates for you tonight. Sorry, I'm going to get to my part of my agenda.
Um we have um fire alarm monitoring that came to us from Soo and then uh a summer school contract for student um or students from the village network. So those are the two then announced certificates for your approval. >> Nope. Nope. But it is what it is. Okay. Kleinhens, >> yes. >> Austin, yes. >> Starer, yes. Good. Right. >> Okay. So now, do we have public participation on agenda? Do we have public participation on non That's before comments and questions. >> Do we have public participation on non-aggenda? >> No. >> Okay. Okay. Sorry. Just making sure. >> Now, now we're on to comments and questions. >> Okay. Yeah, a lot has been up with our student body this month. sports. Um, fall seasons are starting to wrap up and postseason play has concluded for the
boys and girls golf while girls soccer is playing tonight. I believe they won last uh Thursday, was it the 16th, um, boys and girls cross country on October 18th, volleyball on the 20th? Yesterday, I believe they won as well. Um, and boys soccer on this 22nd. U, Mr. Also wanted to give a special shout out to head coach Jen Snow Barker for the volleyball team who recently coached her final home game at Worcester High School after an impressive 24-year career leading the Generals and he wanted to say that we are so appreciative of her leadership and she will be missed after this season. Homecoming was >> Homecoming was >> It was Well, you were in some pictures with your best buddy, right? >> Oh, yes. October 4th. >> Yeah. But
it was good. >> Yes. >> We understand. No worries at all. A million dates, a million activities. No pressure. You're good. >> Wonderful. Thank you. Appreciate that. >> Good update. Thank you. >> Um any comments and questions for the board? Anything? >> All right. Let's move on to future board meetings. Our next board meeting uh regular session is November 20th uh a Thursday, November 20th. And that date is actually different than our normal pattern, but um I think there's some uh there's some conflicts that people have, so we need to honor those sometimes. And then the board meeting after that is December 16th. So currently we don't have any um um work sessions planned. >> I can I just make two comments? >> Yes. Um the first comment I wanted to make is Gabe wanted
me to um remind the board that on the November 20th meeting um Gabe will be bringing um presenting some facilities options um to the board to consider and um uh to address our facilities needs. And then uh we didn't put on here just as a reminder that on Tuesday December 16th we will have executive session prior to the board meeting for Gabe and my evaluation. So, we'll get that on there for next month. Just a feature. >> No need for executive session. >> Motion to adjourn the board of education meeting. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Uh, goodight. >> Yes. >> Starcher, >> yes. >> Austin, yes. >> KMA, >> yes. >> Fine. >> Yes.
