001This is great. Oscar, I think I just heard kids for next year. So, we've got the the staff member of the month wants the student of the month. I also have the pleasure of introducing to you Miss Taylor Heck, who is our fourth grade. Come on. And she should have because she's much more natural than she is our fourth grade um social studies and English language arts teacher. And how are you feeling after testing? >> It's not much better now that it's over. >> Right. Right. Well done. Um, she was nominated by one of our special education teachers, Miss Katie. And here's what Katie had to say. Taylor Hammer contributes so much to our school. Under her leadership and guidance, her fourth graders completed a monthlong unit on poetry. Y'all remember that, right? For English

002arts class, culminating in multiple students presenting their findings and original poems at the Yellowstone meeting. All who are present attested to this being the highlight of the evening. She also leads our fabulous student council. Mills lawn has an ever busy student council that contributes so much to our school local community every month. She made a few veterans day fest food drive. She's also a huge part of the NPSS team at Emma builds on which works to ensure that all of our students reach their personal potential and overcome obstacles in their own. She contributes to the training of future generations of teachers by hosting student teachers in our classrooms. She is generous with her time when sharing her fresh ideas and teaching strategies with her colleagues colleagues. Her positive attitude and energetic personality keep our building

003motivated throughout the year. She is an asset to Mills and we are so fortunate to have her teaching students. Thank you. Oh, the band. >> Yes. I want to begin by recognizing our Y Springs Alumni Association Fine Arts Scholar of the Month, Brendan Sloan. Come on up, Brendon. Brandon was nominated by his combo music teacher, Mr. Mayor, who said that uh Brendan has been a rock solid combo member. He supports and pushes his classmates towards improving their craft. He is flexible, always planning what he's needed. He has become a great singer with the ability to emulate the voice of the artist he is studying. And if anybody was able to make the comp music concert at Mills Park, he he absolutely rocks. Congratulations. Our next award, the Mills Park Hotel student of the month is

004Edwin Hera. Edwin was at his baseball game tonight. He's not able to be here. He was nominated by Miss Corgan. Um, Ed has a true love of learning that he brings to class every day. Edmund's joyous energy in the classroom helps encourage his peers to engage and dive deeper into learning than they ordinarily would. He is a great leader in the class and always encourages his peers to do their best and join into their learning community. Edwin makes our classroom a better place every single day by showing up and bringing positive energy to learning. Congratulations to Edwin. And finally, I would like to recognize our trophy sports seller athlete of the month, Bryce. That Bryce Bryce was nominated by coach um who said that Bryce is a model Bulldog student athlete. Bryce excels in the

005classroom and on the baseball field and in the community. Bryce is a natural leader, as is in several areas. He took charge in offseason workouts and preseason practices by leading the baseball team in the warm-ups. He led his teammates in an effort downtown on consecutive weekends to make money for the baseball program. Personally, I want to thank Bryce. Bryce is one student that every time I see him says hi, says good morning. Uh just a a real leader in our school, a kind, gentle soul. Um, and I appreciate what he does and how he shapes our community. Congratulations All right. So, next on the agenda, I'm going to keep rolling if that's okay, is schools in action. And um for our schools in action, we are recognizing our eighth grade basketball team. But before they

006come up, I want to share a little story. Um about probably seven or eight years ago, I maybe probably 10 years ago, I'm amazing myself. I had a student come through class, was I think just here for seventh grade, disappeared for a while, and then I was watching the board agenda and I saw Rachen in a while. Uh little do we know that coach Ray would be back and he would lead our eighth grade basketball team this year um to an undefeated season. So I want to start by um sharing reading the name of each each athlete on this team. Number 20 Cam Richardson. You can come up if you're here when I read your name and number. Number 21 Brady Fagan. Number 23 men. Number 33 Elijah Solace. Number 34, Eli Lewis. Number 35,

007John. Number 40, William. Number 41, number 42, Gregory. Number 53, come on up. Coach, come on up. So, a little some highlights of our eighth grade team. um 10-0 undefeated regular season. Uh really only had two close games in the regular season, I believe, both against Miami Valley. Um went to the semifinals for the conference championship where they defeated Middletown Christian by 17 and then faced um Miami Valley in the championship game and it was not really close at all. So um to beat a team three times in one season is very difficult. Um and to do so the third time very decisively is very aggressive. um won 10 of the 12 games by double digits. Uh more importantly, wore shirts and ties for every game. Um had studying tables throughout the entire season. The

008cumulative GPA of our eighth grade basketball team during the third quarter, which is the heart of the basketball season, was a 3.3 GPA or 4.0 scale. Um every player on the team scored this year. Um and again like some other students I introduce leaders in our school um kids that that we are proud of when we put our school name and our community name. So congratulations to our good basketball team. I just want to I just want to congratulate the boys basketball team and I want everyone to remember we don't say athlete scholar we say scholar athlete and we say scholar athlete for a very specific reason. So congratulations to you. Congratulations coach and thank you for representing Yellow Springs as well. Thank you. >> Thank you. And I I also want to um thank

009Coach Ray again. He not only took on this eighth grade team, but also the seventh grade team and did it all by yourself. No assistant coach. Um so holding these kids to the standards that he held them to um was really an achievement. So congratulations to all of you. All right. So, we are move along in our agenda this evening. Um, moving on to community comments, which I do not believe there are any student to sign up signed up. So, if no community comments, we'll move on to 2.4 and we will hear from our principles and their administrative reports. We don't have time to waste. >> Yeah, it's all good. >> All right, this is very exciting for Boldley because um she's here. So, check this out. Our Casey, our very own Casey Frankle diaper.

010wrinkled diaper wool. >> Frank, I apologize. That's the first time I said it out loud. >> She loves spelling and wanted to be in the right state and we don't currently have a program that leads to that. And she was like, "No program, no problem. I'm going to do it anyways." So, on her own, entered the script 70. Um, represented us, made it to the second round, got a medal, made a new friend. Um, and not only that, the other kids thought it was so awesome. Now they're starting to talk and they want to have a school so more people can have that kind of experience. So, um, really that whole thinking might lead to a whole new activity for kids. It's very exciting. Thank you, ma'am. >> Couple other big things going on um

011for caring deeply. Um, Miss Bailey's class was talking about the talent show and it talked to a lot of students that had performance anxiety, which you know, talent show was amazing. You never really know they have anxiety, but so they decided they wanted to do something about it. And so they were working with Miss Green to create a stage fright toolkit. And not only that, there were guest speakers from the community to talk about how they deal with their stage fright. Um, I don't know if you've all spent a lot of time on stage. Um, I love that adrenaline rush. Some people it terrifies them. So, I just thought that was really cool that they noticed something a way to help their peers and um something that will last beyond their struggles. And then lastly,

012I hope you didn't see this because I stole it. Um, advocating courageously across grade levels. We were very excited to have the um the YSM come down and work with our with all kinds of grade levels. They met with nine different classes and did a wax museum of very important females. And the the exciting part was a first grader. I I'm not going to lie, I hadn't heard of Marina ROVA and now we have someone who wants to go be a pilot, you know, and you know, obviously we know women can do it, but now this first grader is very convinced she can. And then a fifth grader um really related to uh Selena, which um in the Tana community is still very revered. Um and so it was very exciting that she had that

013she could really relate to there. So, we appreciated that and any opportunity we can have to bring schools together, it's always exciting. >> All right, I'm going to go ahead and get started as loading. Um, for thinking globally, I wanted to recognize our National Junior Honor Society and National Honor Society students. Um, our new inductees. So, it was actually the end of February, we had our National Honor Society inductions. Um, and and as I've shared in the past, we have changed kind of how we do inductions to try to weight all of the pillars more equally. Um so when you see a picture of students who have been inducted into our National Junior Honor Society or National Honor Society um you can have confidence that they really do instill the scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship and

014character um that comes with that title. So um a lot of chapters I believe work more just at the academic side and we believe that that a more well-rounded student embodies all of those pillars. So we try to to um celebrate them equally. So I just want to uh congratulate and thank all those students for the contributions to our school community but then more broad community for the service that they give. Um under guarantee we we um have a unique um I think program of study here in Yellow Springs for such a small school to offer so many and so such diverse uh art offerings. Um, and something I'm quite proud of is that when funding is tight and schools often times cut our programs, we that's another conversation we have here. Um, and I

015think this year, you know, we see it every year, but this year it's very apparent how when you have a thriving art program, it gives kids kind of the excitement, reason, inspiration. Um, so, so this first piece is actually recognizing our art award winners. Um, so we had a host of award winners who are recognized at the K12 gallery. Nick Gray, Beetle Creek, and Bear, EE Thomas, Cali, Thomas, Amatai, Delator, Audrey Milone, Sasha Greece, and Elena Cameron. Um, and Elena was recognized for the top overall piece in the entire Miami. And you can see a picture there. You can't see the quality of the picture, but I actually saw it in class. And it's just stunning. You look at it, you can't believe that a student created it. It doesn't I mean it looks like

016it was um digitally created. Um and then I also want to recognize Eddie Clark who um received an award in the Gem Project D for his piece and you see that piece pictured there on the bottom left. Um so congratulations to all of our art students. And then finally, um, I've talked about this in the past as well, our change of our senior project and how we're trying to shape it into a real kind of unified career experience for our students to recognize something that they either love or maybe they don't love so that they they are more informed before they start investing time and money into future plans. Um and this is our first year of going through that and we go to the spring convening through the link of innovated schools and that's

017really where this change was born. Um to be able to go there be inspired by um what other schools are doing bring that back to our school and then see that have an impact on our students is super powerful. Um and and one of the the most exciting things I've seen this year is that we have students who are actually doing internship internships within our schools. So students who are inspired by their teachers to become teachers and and if you've been following this huge educator shortage. So for us we have a class of 62 and we have five students who are p pursuing careers in education which I think speaks to the inspiration that our teachers are giving our kids. And we actually have two students who are pursuing careers in the arts. Um one

018is pictured there Ryan Thomas um who plays a little bit of everything. um went and auditioned for a scholarship at Capital and was awarded a nearly full scholarship um to Capitol um private school diplomas. So, congratulations to him. And then it's not noted in here, but we also have five seniors who are going to be signing uh letters of intent this Friday. So, we're going to do our signing day this Friday with five seniors who are continuing athletic careers after high school. So, congratulations to all of our students. >> Great. Thank you so much, Mr. Any questions for either or? Thank you. Next item on the agenda is the mill. Come on up. >> Hello. Um just wanted to yeah provide you guys with a little update kind of where we're at here at the

019end of the school year. Things are winding down a bit which feels good but also exciting because we're looking forward to next year. Um, and that brings a lot of excitement because, um, as I mentioned last time I was here, we're continuing to discuss, um, with leaders at the middle and high school, um, as well as with our PTO, uh, team members and board members and team members just what that transition is going to look like. Um, just for what we've kind of established right now is that we're going to continue to support up through the fifth and sixth grade. Um, but then we're going to support all teachers, all grade levels, um, in some capacity. So, we haven't outlined exactly what that will look like, but we really want to extend that support. So,

020um that being said, looking for as many volunteers um and additional PTO members as possible to to support that transition. Um so, we uh this week actually we provided test acts for the um for the the school for anyone who was doing testing. Um we uh have the Bulldog boogie this weekend, the fifth and sixth grade dance. So that'll be right here. We'll see it transform into a um Hollywood night is the theme. I'm very excited to see what happens with that. So that's Friday is the boogie K through 4 6:00 to 7:30 um with an adult and then Saturday it's the same time 6:00 to 7:30 for the fifth and sixth graders. Um we then we have Earth Day. So we last year um Emily Gray helped facilitate Earth Day um in partnership with

021the village. We do a clothing spot for kids. It worked out really well. That was great. We got a lot of clothing. Um Ellie's probably wearing something right now from that. It It was awesome. So, we're going to do that again. It's at the Brian Center this year, Sunday, April 26th, 1 to 4 p.m. So, um bring your kids clothes if you have them or come get some if you need them. Uh then we're moving on to teacher and staff appreciation, which is in May. Um we have a PTO meeting this coming Monday night here at 6 PM in the in the teachers lounge. if you're able to attend um that meeting. We'll we'll discuss more of the teacher staff appreciation and what we're going to do for that. Um we are continuing to support

022the core experiences. Um Elliot, what day? Where'd you go on the field trip? >> Okay. Um she forgot what it was called. Uh so we're continuing to wrap those up. Um and then our May meeting uh just for awareness is going to be the meeting where we do vote in new officers for the coming year and uh plan new events for next year. We are looking to maybe try some new events next year. We kind of have those same ones for a while. So that's exciting. And then the best event of all street fair June 13th. Um Saturday June 13th. Um we are always looking for support. So, you'll get that yearly email from me asking you to come help. Um, that's our biggest fundraiser of the year and getting as much volunteers as possible,

023especially as we head into a year where, yeah, we're looking to potentially fund some big things. Um, you know, like we'd like to try and do something big here at the middle school and potentially at the high school for the sixth graders. So, any questions? Um, I have a question. Was there a meeting that PTO is um working with Mr. had it in for the fourth, fifth, and sixth graders. >> Yes. So, I know um you've been talk I think emailing with Emily. >> Yes. We do not have a date currently, but yes, we are planning on that meeting sometime the April an evening meeting together. >> Yeah. And then our plan is to once that's coordinated, we'll blast that out on Facebook and >> thanks you guys. >> All right. Moving on to the

024master facilities update. >> Okay. So, you have two documents. You have my update and then you have the monthly update. Um, I'm not going to get too much into that. It's pretty dry. I'm just going to talk to you about where we are. So, construction continues at Mills Law. Um, I think we're working on just some I'm going to say punch list items for phases one and two, though I don't think we're quite there with the project. We had a little um in all transparency a little plumbing issue here um that that is resolved and dealt involving sinks down here. Um so it is resolved and I think it was an issue where pipes came together um under the sinks. Um, so we have new pipes with old pipes and some scaling quite honestly of

025the old pipes. So we were able to move it about 60 ft that way and I think we're going to be satisfied with that for now. I think the question for me and for our team is we're not sure why now. So there's not just that big there. Um as we So that was a we just finished our camera, excuse me, the camera of almost the entire campus the storm. So you know we have a water issue in this corner. So this would be the limestone walnut quarter. So, we know that there's a storm sewer pipe that crosses limestone goes into that. I'm going to say that drain there um up in the corner of the property. We have a line coming from this building that meets there. So, part of the line continues north

026on WA crosses the street. So we go from 24 in to 18 inch to 15 inch to 8 in to 6 in. We're still finishing on camera and I think the question that we had is typically so I'm told when it runs south to north you should have piping that also increases in size from south in pipes to a pipe that's under the building should be except that's a lot. So I think we'll have a plan. Um but our I think our consensus has been we're going to fix face fix the issues. Now the question is do we know all the issues? So but that work has been ongoing. Phase three work is continuing. So we're waiting on um some folks on storefront. So when I say that big windows that need to be replaced,

027the windows at the end of the hallway going to the limestone where there um the media center, I mean they are moving along there. The hallways, they used to be steps are now ramps on either side of the media center that is moving along. There's plaque work being done. There's classrooms We're waiting on a price for all of the panels to drive down limestone building. You see those ugly tan panels um that have absolutely no insulation. So we are getting colored panels to match the colored panels that high school and also panels that have something factor so we can have a little bit of insulation. But we're moving along. I think that if you go outside the picture that's high school, if you see go down a little bit a little bit more, all of

028the if you remember the railings and the duct work that was painted red when you're finished, all of that will be artificial blue. If anybody's wondering what the name of it is, it is salty dog. So work is progressing. Okay. So maybe up or stop right there. Go down. We're not going to talk about that yet. You see the mosaic sign, the nose line mosaic sign. We had to pull that because we in poor shape and needs some work. So we put out community tomorrow about that. And then last with so lights at the front entrance and um they have been on 247 to be quite honest with you. We'll be on 247 until next year when all the electric is tied in and at that point we can control both the timing and the

029but um I know there's been a community complaint. Um I do not believe they are not sore but we are not removing them. We will work on the brightness. But just so everyone is aware, you're also going to get four for this walkway. If you come into the gym, there are cam lights there. But beyond that, there's nothing. And if you remember in the fall, so if you weren't yet, maybe when it is dark, you know, we're not on daylight savings. here late. It is dark and for us it is a signage. So um you know I was spoken to the village manager. There are no light ordinances. It has to be downloaded ordinances. He has seen these. He has approved these. And we are going to think we approach that safely first. And residents

030can do whatever they can to their homes. But we have to carate not only children but any adult that comes here for any event. We do have we do have um so I personally think so that questions >> I think it's a great the lights added great highlight is kind of the heart of springs and so I think having that extra lighting looks really great out there highlight all the new features and everything. And when we do that lighting around, we took to make sure it's all down to make sure that it wasn't too bright for the residences on side. Um, okay. Middle school, high school. So the first picture um is Commer Construction did a a trades session with some of our middle school and high school students basically to introduce the trades the

031skill trades to our students. Um because like there's a shortage of teachers there's really a shortage of folks in the same So I think sometimes our students don't think of that as a viable career. you know, you can there's the starting position, right, where you maybe what we would call skilled labor all the way to there and said, "Hey, this is where I started. This is um what I do now." And I think that was nice because your students so they talk about the importance of attendance and timeliness and they had one gentleman who was working for I don't know if he was working for you former NFL player who was sharing with students about as we talk about the importance of attendance and timeliness. He was sharing them in the NFL for every minute

032I think they were late for practice and would be a thousand. There were two two of them. When they were late for practice, they were fine and they were overweight for every pound they so I guess I say that to say it's important for our students to understand there are there are consequences and responsibilities when you're employed for a student. So, but that was good. In terms of the work at the middle school high school, um we had a concern about our polish concrete. It caused another slight delay. Jeff and Megan and I went over Friday and looked at the new solution. So that work is they I think today just put in the fronts at the entrance. There's not glass there, but you can see the doorway etc. We spend a lot of time

033on um environmental graphics and branding on that. I know it seems may seem small, but for both that is a big issue because that is what's going to bring the whole building together. I think we'll get close to a resolution for that. Um the gym floor has been sealed and it looks beautiful. I do not have a picture. Um I have a picture but you do not know that's a not the finish. That's maybe one coat. I do have finished pictures that I just took today. Um, and we are dealing with two dates. Two, so three important dates for Mills long. I mean, these are dates that have been given to for Mills long. The date you're occupying this building is no later than October 15th because we start our to allow us to move.

034So that is when you go to our library there's a schedule dates you do whatever you need to do before then this is the date for middle school high school we have two dates so we have May 19th for the gym because we are having graduation there May 21st Mr. understand. What are you talking about? because we do have complication in the gym and then um August 14th which is the staff time to get start it's moved so visit on Tuesday even the middle school you know winter when we go out there I can tell there's some going down when do we get on our next visit and I >> um you tell me Congratulations. We're bringing balls. Jack said it's okay. So, we're doing it. We have a meeting in which >> I would

035say probably. So, Also, we did take down some trees here so that we could put it in so that we can actually work on and also I think it's pretty important for the record that we do know the trees that have been planted. Um, what an amazing thing to do than the tree committee does. But we have a moratorium on trees on our campuses because trees have roots and roots cause plumbing problems, concrete problems and other problems that we are now experiencing that quite honestly pain. So um we'll work with the tree committee about memorial trees but more trees have to be planted without a discussion and because I don't think folks realize just the the cost that we've had to outweigh to repair things that damaged by trees and I know the community is

036concerned about money and money and taxp So um we will make sure high school so we have appropriate questions on okay this will not be quite as long. I want to first start by talking about the theater. Um, you were actually going to approve a trip from the Ohio Education Theater Association conference on tonight's agenda, but um, if you went to Ann Frank in January, um, the production we had at the John Legend, it was amazing. I mean it was absolutely amazing and that is the show that has been selected for a full performance um at the state conference. That's a big deal. So this is just a recognition of that recognition of the students and the adults that helped with that production. And then I went after Mr. I came back from a for

037a STEM I went to the Thursday night performance across the street across the street church and fearless now musical review in I'll be perfectly honest I was not sure what to expect. I was amazed. So what the students did was they reached back into some performed numbers from certain shows, some as far back as the 70s. I was amazed. So I say all this to say we we do such an amazing job with the art for the service. And so I just gave you my facility report. Um we are going to have a beautiful and and now this is the the call to the community. Step up and support our students support this amazing auditorium because like I said and frankly everybody drives Springfield. It gives Springfield money right to rent the John Legend. Um,

038we had to use lead church. Um, not the best venue quite honestly for any and we weren't in the church which is a better better sound. Um, in whatever their province area is um so now we are going to have an appropriate venue for for our theater. So um if anybody wants to support us there there is a means and that's detailed in my report and available on the website. I highlighted some of the selections from that night that by no means is the entire was the entire program. Um but I was tired. We had just driven three hours and you know it was amazing. Um, next, um, about what, three weeks ago now, um, Becca Jack and I went to the conven I' using every year because I think that's how we grow by

039learning from others. Megan was busy important days. And so I gave you just a little rundown of the three days and Becca and I started it with a visit to Microsoft which was pretty amazing. I mean they were talking about Microsoft for education. you know, we're not Microsoft because quite frankly, it's expensive. They were talking about their free tools working to explore them. But it was interesting to see not only what's out there, but you know, Microsoft for education is global and so they were talking about all the global schools around the globe that use Microsoft. So, um just found that interesting. The we started off I started off in a superintendent only session and and again I'm not going to read this to you but there's really two themes for this whole AI and

040career. So I spent time both in my superintendent session We spent time when we visited schools. There were two schools we could choose from. Kent school district and is we all go to turns out graduate. Um but we we each picked tracks to um learn about how others are doing work. So Becca was on a student voice track. Jack and I were on a career readiness track and we saw some pretty amazing things that we've already brought back and said, "Okay, we need to explore this a little more and we just need to figure out how to how to leverage our experiences to make sure our students connected to careers really was work around culture and graduate And so we had a PD last week with all staff not exhibition where we talked about portraiture

041of a graduate. Um this work will be rolling and will be leading this this work as we know end this year but it's it's really important because it will be tied to the strategic plan that we have and really be a map for um what promises are we making to our children? what what promises not not only you know yes teachers administrators the board but the community by supporting those school what what promises are we making to our students what do we expect they have when they meet us so I think that that's big AI you know also tonight the AI policy required to have that really is is step zero. We have to figure out um how we are going to use AI in this district and what parameters we're going to have. You

042know, I think we had lots of discussion both um broad discussions and there were lots of side discussions last week with staff. I know some staff and students feel very strongly about um I might have my own personal But I also know that as educators, it is our responsibility to provide students with the tools that they need when they all know how embedded AI is in our own lives outside whether it's right or wrong. It is the current condition. So I feel like we advocating our responsibility to address that. We might say, "Hey, we're gonna be very cautious. to do all these things because there are huge safety issues. There are huge environmental issues. But I also have to believe now that I'm nearing the end of my career here, I also have to believe

043that with our students lies solutions to complex problems that we as adults have not made to so where's that? So that's where that was a really good Jack want to add anything to that. It is a pretty amazing. >> Were there any um talks going on Microsoft here? But um regarding the amount of student use on computers at school have been chatter about maybe limiting that or changing the direction on how much we use. I didn't experience anything like that. I think we were in some sessions on safety and specifically the magic school session um where one of our um peers from Pennsylvania they were working with magic school and they did a presentation we had some real issues. They describe a student really using the chatbot as a companion and they reached out students

044changes to to change that and that but that is a safety concern. Again this is not only for our students. All you have to do is seem to concern, right? Um, you know, this is not a real person, right? So, I think that was the theme. I didn't really hear anything about too much time. Another theme connected to AI was um how do we make AI a tool so we can be more humanent in the classroom? That was a big thing keeping kids off. You know, we have education is a human centered profession. So, how do we really kind of recognize AI given a place that does not surpass our humanness? So, that that was our thank you to the board. that was our so we brought back a lot and then they received us

045last night. So >> we did watch the SE um Uh this is kind of first and last. This is we're at the end of the year and not only are we at the end of the year, we are we have big building transitions. You know, next year there will not be fifth and sixth graders in this building. There won't be these stairwells like there won't be classes in the tower. I think that's something for you know I just talked about theater we don't have to production off first we're going to have this year we are going to have our first graduation in our we go so fast sometimes at the end of the year I think this is really just a pause for for all of us as we experience these things to pause and

046recognize for what they are. So I did not this is an important um last part of my update is really what was on last property taxes. I don't know if that's gathered anymore, but I don't know what it's all and then important dates beginning this Friday. So that's my great so we'll wrap up this year and our next meeting will be done. All right, moving on to item five, uh, approving four policies. 5.1 is um approving the second read of the um four policies listed there. One of I think the main one there is the AI policy that Dr. mentioned earlier. Um questions about a motion I guess second >> all right questions >> regular der >> yes >> motion passes 4 to zero >> a motion to approve the second reading for the administrative

047guidelines Second >> questions. >> Bailey, >> yes. >> Miners, >> yes. >> Motion passes 4. >> All right. And then item six, we have the administrative calendar. Do I have a motion to open the consent calendar for the administrative? >> So, That's easy. Okay. Um I want to quickly do a review change. 6.2 is approval with the YSL typically do that but we've had request from Mr. patterns because we should have a talented female who wants to compete with other females. Absolutely. That is 6.2. Um 6.3 is as I mentioned the overnight trip which I believe is this weekend for um the production at the state conference. Uh 6.4 um is power state competition that was on the draft that came up last week. Just want to make sure that we conference competition. >> Yeah.

048Once it's at Ashlin University and all of this is in the details that attached 6.5. Um this is for our new phone system through Cisco. Right now we have voice over 6.6. This is I know this was not on the draft agenda and I have a admin assistant who is on top of what I do. She called this as attach to the agenda, but here it is. And if you're okay with it, so this is for John B school for summer worker program. This is every year typically we approve it. Wonderful work. So I apologize for that, but if you're okay with 6.7 is the first read of the school calendar for 278. meeting that work. Remember with schools we have to do two meetings and once the board approve this we can get back

049to a two-year schedule and this this more along the lines of the traditional 6.8 8 motion in a second. This is also a college. Yeah. J questions pretty well. Myers, >> yes. >> Bailey, >> yes. >> Motion passes 4. All right, moving on to item 7.1, financial report. >> Second. >> All right. Uh so this is just the February finance report. Um no um no big highlights on this. I guess if you want to go down to the line graphs I say the the main thing to point out is um we are if if you look at the benchmark for revenues benchmark was 68.4% we are at 71.52. uh that is thanks to mainly audit the uh income tax coming in higher than what we expected this year. And then if we go down to

050the expenditure line uh benchmark is 66% and we are at 64 so a little bit under for expenditure which is perfect but moves from 5% um and both you know above on revenues and below on expenditures. a good place to be at. Were there any other specific questions about the finance report? And we'll call the role. >> Myers, >> yes. >> Regular. >> Yes. >> Bailey, >> yes. >> Motion passes four to zero. >> Moving on to item eight. Do I have a motion to open the consent calendar for the personnel schedule? So >> second. >> Okay. This is the light. Um this month we just won for support staff. We have a substitute team and a custodian. And um for certificate and some substitute teachers and then two teachers uh two certified staff members.

051One is a school nurse doing department and then the other is a intervention specialist which is a new position because of fifth and sixth grade coming up and the numbers actually teachers the third is a new teacher as part of our >> questions. Harrison. >> Yes. >> Motion passes four to zero. >> Okay, moving on. We are into the final part of the evening here, the board communications. Um so first up is YSDC which is me and um so YSDC I want um village springs too so they kind of go together. Um so YSDC had a first meeting last night or my first meeting last night their first meeting. Um the main focus last night was to discuss the hardware store um figuring out long-term goals for the hardware store um for the space and

052then uh a repair budget. um two small subcommittees were created to uh one to review the RFPs that they received for um rental tenants and the um in the hardware store and then another committee to um uh for scenario planning for long-term use of the building. So just kind of learning the ropes in that department. Do you have anything else to add for YSDC? Um and then moving on to village council. So they are actually going to be discussing amongst themselves um kind of beginning some fresh discussions of YSDC and kind of the role and responsibilities that it plays within the village uh council within the village government. So um we'll be looking to hear about what that what comes with that. Um they're going to be discussing more a more solidified definition of what

053their role is in economic development. Um, so I guess I just wanted to verify with our board that our goals would be that whatever would bring more students and families into the district, what we would be looking for. All right. Um, so with uh village council, some upcoming discussions, uh, topics that they're going to be having, uh, parking and economic development is going to happen on May 4th. um sidewalks, which they'll be talking about whether or not the village continues to cover those costs or whether they turn that over to residents. So, that'll happen on uh their meeting on May 18th. Um for parking, we will be solidifying what our drop drop off process looks like, but um they have choice engineering coming out. Are you meeting with them too? Do you know heard anything

054about that? Okay. So, the village has um an engineering company coming out to survey and kind of look at our traffic patterns and what crosswalk signs we need and all of the things that um active transportation's been working on um to kind of let us know what we should focus on. So, um that will be coming soon. Um, and then the other thing I wanted to let everybody know about uh Johnny sent me an email this morning about they're looking to set the date for our drum meeting to have us uh council and township. So, um, when we get to other board member announcements, there's some other dates I want to talk about, but I think we can probably schedule that over email. Um, he's looking at late July, so if you guys want to

055look at your calendars, kind of think what might work. I was thinking maybe we give them two or three dates that work for all of us and then they can go to township and ask them to. So coming soon and that's all I have for village council and YSDC active transportation. >> Yeah. So active transition met has been approved to update the active transportation plan. So this will be a five to six month process. The committee has received a draft of the services and will be setting up an initial meeting with the consultant GFD. Um in response to a letter to the from the school and community concerns kind of a repeat there that the village has reached out to choice one to look at signage traffic patterns around the school. However, those meeting I

056have received additional pictures of cars parked in marked spots in front of Mills Law School um and beside the school near Short Street and Walnut that I'd be happy to share if anyone wants to see them. Um the proximity of these spots to Short Street made it difficult when turning off of Short Street. And then as well, there's also a picture sent of a car parked in the crosswalk from the school. Um blocking approximately 3/4 of the walking space there. So again, happy to share any other pictures, but I do believe this is something that we be mindful of as we start reviewing the study. There were also some concerns shared from the district residents regarding signs and speeds on the south side of the middle school high school campus on road and there's some

057potential in that area for students who walk to school along that stretch. There's an safety concern. Um and they have received some support from the village and township. However, the portion of the road that's in question is a county road and so they're trying to get support from the county at that point. Um and our next meeting is scheduled for April 15th, a week from today. Um, I wanted to circle back on the baby issue because our feedback is actually making an impact. Um, parent option has now been added and representative appears to open to amending the bill. So, schools can choose sources other than the baby video. I actually watched the video myself and there are several biological inaccuracies. is clearly designed to promote a specific anti-choice choice perspective to students. Um, House Bill

058561 is the vaccine bill. It feels somewhat redundant. Schools are already required to accept medical, religious, and conscientious vaccine exemptions. This bill would remove the hepatitis B vaccine requirement and reduce schools authority to enforce vaccination requirements. Um, Senate Bill 156, the success sequence bill. It requires schools, sorry, to teach that in order to be successful, students should graduate high school, get a full-time job, get married, and then have children. Implying that following this path leads to economic stability. The reality is more complicated. Many people follow this sequence and still struggle financially, especially given the economic pressures facing the middle class. The concept itself originated with the Heritage Foundation and intends to oversimplify poverty while ignoring broader systemic factors. Beyond that, it raises a bigger question about whether schools should be promoting a specific model for

059how students ought to live in their personal lives. I really encourage you to stay engaged with what's happening at the state house. Many of these bills seem to lead into culture war issues rather than focusing on policies that would directly support students like school funding. Take the time to reach out to your representatives and community leaders and encourage others to do the same. Our voices do matter and they can make a difference. >> Thank you. I believe they're in recess right now. Correct. >> All right. Thank you for that. On to other board member announcements. I have a couple. Does anybody have anything that they want to start with? Um, so I can't remember if I let everybody know or not, but next week we will not have a work session. Um, there were some

060logistic time or date uh logistical conflicts. So, we won't have a work session next week for this month. But our next regular meeting will be Wednesday, May 13th at 5:30 and that will be Dr. Wood's very last meeting. Well, I guess we have a work session last meeting. So, we'll be celebrating her. Um, so then our next work session will be Wednesday, May 20th. Um, and that is where we will uh have the discussion about uh superintendent treasure evaluation process. Um, one other thing I wanted to add in. So, we've got some dates we need to work through, um, with the board. Can we do a walkthrough of the facilities, joint meeting with council, and then also, um, want to start Christy and I talked about this, we need to probably start tossing around some

061dates for a small board retreat in the summertime. That would be a good idea to do that. Um, so some ideas that I have for that, um, reviewing our strategic plan, district goals, looking at creating a board handbook and a board self-evaluation process. Um, so those are just some ideas I have. We don't have anything solidified. We haven't really talked too much about what the topics would be. If anybody has any ideas on what topics they'd like to discuss at a retreat, um, feel free to share them. But I think getting the dates set first would be a good idea. Um, so I'll send an email with all of those uh dates that we need to collect. We can discuss dates via email together without being an open session. Um, oh, board protocols was the

062other one other item. Um, so we talked about the board protocol document a couple months ago. Um, board member Potter had some concerns. Um, I have not heard anything from her in terms of what those specific concerns are and um, how to change the document to meet those needs. Um, so I'll reach back out to her, give her another opportunity to um provide some more information, but I would like to bring those back uh at night to approve those as um as we move forward. Um early voting started yesterday, so for the May 6th election, so you vote vote early if you can. Anybody else have anything for announcements? All right. Do I have a motion to adjurnn? >> Second. >> Yes. >> Motion passes four to zero. We are at 6:43. I know.
