Welcome to the January 8th regular school board meeting for Spring School. I will ask you to go ahead and start off with >> Bailey [clears throat] >> here. >> Conor >> here. >> Myers >> here. >> We have those who just joined us. We had our organizational meeting um right before this and we all members. So, um, we're not just throwing them into the fire right now. They have been sworn in and we are ready to go. So, uh, the first item of business is item 1.3, changes to the agenda. Does anybody have any changes they need to request to the agenda to the approval of the minutes? Do I have a motion to >> Second. No, I was >> any questions in the minutes. >> Miners, >> yes. >> Arizona, >> yes. >> Bailey,
[clears throat] >> yes. >> Otter, >> yes. >> Motion passes 5. >> All right, moving on to 2.1 communications. Uh we were grateful to receive one communication this uh month and that was from North Bay. Um and it was regarding advocacy and special education as um all of the legislative changes come forward. Um [laughter] um so it's a good reminder for us as new members and continuing members to make sure that we advocate for special education as the legislative changes come down. So, thank you for writing that and sending that in. All right, moving on to 2.2, which is the best part of our meeting, the district honors, recognitions, and introductions. So, I will go ahead and turn this over to that right first. Okay, it is working. I have the honor to introduce the
Milan Young Student of the Month. And for those of you who don't know, this amazing young man is Victor Solders and he's our youngster student of the month. Victor was nominated by our specialist teachers and actually um I told him today it was Miss Riker. So right before she retired she nominated a picture and that tells you what an amazing student he is. He consistently demonstrates strong leadership skills. He's responsible, respectful, and approaches each day with his commitment to doing his personal best. Victor is a positive role model for his peers. He leads by example, treats others with kindness, and willing to step up when support or problem solving is needed. As a fearless thinker, Victor acts asks thoughtful questions, takes academic risks, and embraces new challenges with confidence. We are proud of the way
he represents Milon and are excited to celebrate his many contributions to our communities. My friend, [applause] >> [applause] >> I'm sorry. >> Like a bull. All righty. She is not here to celebrate with her, but I am so excited to announce our fine art seller of the month. And um it is a fantastic young bulldog named Clara Day. and she was nominated by Mr. Mayor for her positive influence she brings each and every class period and for consistently doing her personal best. She approaches learning with enthusiasm, kindness, and a strong work ethic setting a wonderful example for her peers. We are proud of the dedication and creativity Clara brings to her. So when you see her, please tell her congratulations. [applause] All right, I would like to first recognize our Mills Park Hotel student of
the month, Laya Crockett. Come on up, Lyla. [applause] Laya was nominated by Hannah Corgan who said, "Layla is such a wonderful student in person. She is kind to all, an active participant in every discussion, an advocate for herself and others, and has a relentlessly positive attitude. Laya helps make every learning community she is part of better through her leadership. Congratulations. [applause] We're getting instructions from our tech director. Where do you want us to stand? All >> [applause] >> right. Next, I would like to welcome our Mills Park Hotel student of the I'm sorry, our uh trophy sports scholar of the month, Liliana. Come on up, Liliana. [applause] Liliana was nominated by her cheer coach, Miss Hayek. Uh Liliana is an absolute force on the cheer floor. A four-year varsity cheerleader and team captain. She is
a powerful, fearless tumbler whose athleticism, strength, and consistency set her heart. Liliana's relentless work ethic and dedication to her sport earned her an invitation to cheer at Zaker University. A huge honor that speaks to her talent and commitment. Just as impressive as her skills is the way she leads, lifting up her teammates, bringing non-stop energy, and setting the tone through effort, positivity, and pride. Liliana represents the very best of what it means to be a student athlete. [applause] >> [applause] >> And finally, I would like to nominate our pray for Orchard employee of the month, Morgan Singer. [applause] So Morgan was actually nominated by pretty much our entire local school team. Um, Morgan has uh taken on a strong leadership role this year. She cares about our team and checks in regularly. She has an
amazing rapport with students, is enthusiastic, and has a positive influence within the team. Um, they appreciate her energy, effort, organization, care, and support. She's always working hard to make middle school science fun and engaging for her students. Her enthusiasm is contagious, and her students stay engaged and excited. Excited. She puts in a ton of effort planning um hands-on labs and other projects to keep her classes interesting. Aside from teaching, she also puts a lot of time and energy into planning and executing the incentive trips for our middle school students. And last but not least, she was integral to the planning and execution of the wild. So congratulations to Jenny. [applause] I would like to thank this up here. So board and guests, January is schoolboard recognition month and Yale Springs is celebrating its board members
for their dedication and commitment to the district and its students. School board members are ordinary people who have an extraordinary dedication to our public schools. School boards exemplify local citizen control in decision making and education. They volunteer hundreds of hours and provide an immeasurable amount of energy to ensure that our schools are providing the best education possible for the children of our community. Schoolboard members are citizens whose decisions affect our children, what they learn, who will teach them, and what kinds of facilities house their classrooms. They are elected to establish the policies that provide the framework for our public schools. They represent the community and they take this responsibility seriously by attending regular meetings, some of which can be lengthy or contentious. They participate in conferences and institutes where they broaden their professional knowledge about
education and day in and day out they engage in numerous conversations with the community about our school district. Yellow Springs Exempted Village School District Board is one of more than 600 such boards across the state. These boards enable local control of public schools, meaning that decisions on school programming are made by local elected representatives who understand the community's unique problems, values, culture, and circumstances. With the advice and counsel of the educational profession professionals they hire, our school board has an impact on virtually every aspect of our schools. It's a huge responsibility and one that the Dallas school board does not take lightly. This is an official thank you for caring about our children's education, for your public service to all spring schools, for your dedication and civic responsibility, and for your vision and voice in
shaping a better tomorrow for our children. I would like to thank our veteran board members and our newly elected board members in advance for their untiring efforts and commitment to this act of service. Please come forward as I call your name. >> [applause] >> All herself. [applause] Christy Myers. [applause] Rebecca Potter, [applause] Kimber. [applause] Thank you Dr. Moving on to 2.3 schools in action. Tonight we are fortunate to have student council. That's right. >> All right. I know everybody received our parent squares and all the marketing about our mill give that drive which was a huge success. But what you don't know, it was really three students who took on this entire drive into responsibility. So I invited Dalia Espinosa, come on up, lighting professor [applause] and student a little bit about what they did.
>> Good evening. We are London Clover and we are sixth grade students at one. We helped lead the one gift which took place from December 1st. During the drive, our school community donated, 1497. All of the donations were delivered to the food pantry at Central Chapel Church where they will help advantaging our community. As student council members, we help organize the drive, collect donations each day, and count every exciting to see how quickly the food does and how many classrooms come to help. Food insecurity exists in every community, including in county about one in 10 and the number This is higher for children. That means many children worry about what they want to eat. Knowing that this project feel important. Even though one can box food might seem small, together those donations can make a
real difference to families who need support. We want to thank all the mill classrooms, families, and staff members who help us. Every donation murdered and every person who helps show kindness and care for others. We are proud to be a part of a school of a school community that takes stock and takes care of people. Thank you for listening and supporting our work. [applause] >> Thank you guys so much for coming for sharing that information. Is there anybody questions? Yeah, I was just want to point out 1497 food items. That's amazing. That's well over a hundred a day. >> Yeah. >> Wow. That's quite a commitment. Now we be doing that morning evening. >> We did it instead of going to recess. >> That's also giving back. Well, thank you. Thank you. Um, if people
would like to donate food or items now or in the future, is there a way are we able to do that? >> [applause] >> All right, moving on to 2.4, which is the community comment section. Um, so this is the portion of the meeting where the committee has the opportunity to come up and speak uh to the board. Um, I just ask the board president and you will have a three minutes time sheet. There's nobody on it. Perfect. Okay. We welcome your comments at the next meeting if anybody is interested. Moving on to 2.5 which is administrative report. So I will turn it over to Mr. Patter. >> All right. Um so it felt like we just had a board meeting and then went on a break and came back and just had another board
meeting. So my report's a little short. Um, I took the opportunity to focus on something that didn't necessarily happen right now but has been ongoing. So, when we were thinking about kind of our goals with our building, one of our goals, two goals really, um, one is to build student connection to their classmates and to our school. So, this idea of establishing pride within our school where kids look back fondly in their high school experience and the relationship they had with their classmates. And then a second was to grow leadership within our schools. So um kind of combining those two things. This year we reintroduced the class officer structure. So that's a structure that's been missing from our district largely for I've been here for in that building for 18 years and it's been missing
almost the entire time. So we brought it back this year. Um and we're trying to to have some fun with it. And so we have class challenges um each week. um and and they range from trivia questions to games to kind of a food drive that's based on like the class competition and all those different things. So, um it's been a I think a fun experience for our students. Um we we build this in with our Friday assembly period. Um and when I look at our attendance data, our attendance actually oddly is the highest on Fridays. And I don't know if it's if there's a correlation there or not, but I like to think like the idea that kids have a break engaging in a time to be with your peers um may have some
impact for their desire to be at school. Um, but I also I want to point out um we only uh only raised 800 and some items at our high school food drive which feels weak compared to those lines, but it's actually something we are still very proud of for our students. And like I said, we did it as part of our class challenges. So, our classes were actually popping against each other and had like hundreds of items. So, they didn't turn it in until the last day because they didn't want other classes to see it and pass them. Uh so so there's some some gains in the shift in it. Um and then the second thing I want to highlight is just a new leadership opportunity. Um so Sean Kerver, our new athletic director this
year has brought a lot of leadership to that role. And one of the things that we're starting here in January is a student uh um student athlete leadership team, a salt team um that where coaches will be recommending student athletes and then those student athletes will explore leadership growth opportunities for themselves but then also be a sounding board and give feedback to the the district. um in terms of uh building more complete athletic programs and looking at how academics and athletics are supporting each other, working together in unison as opposed to competing with each other. So, um so some some exciting stuff there. Hopefully in a couple months we'll be able to share some of the activities that our salt team is engaging in. Um but but looking forward to to more growth and engagement
with markets. Thank you. >> Thank you. All righty. I hinted at this one in my last report and I am so excited to talk to you about this project that our students are doing. Um, this is a project that emerged organically when our sixth graders saw in after some of our very cold weather. They came back to school and talked about what a mess it was to go sle. What imagine how delightful it was to go sledding in dog park and how it needed some some sense of order and maybe some signage and maybe some handrails and maybe we're thinking a little big because the escalator's not going to happen. [laughter] Thank you very much. I'm here [laughter] our students noticed this is unsafe and decided it was up to them to do something which
is exactly what we're trying to do, what we're trying to accomplish. So this made me so proud. Um what it has turned into is a big project based learning that is studentled. Um they are in art they're designing science in math they're talking about slope which is great because I never knew what slope was for. Um they are in in ELA they're working on writing about this so they can convince people to join in and help. In PE they're talking about the best conditions for sledding. In science they're talking about the best materials for sledding. So, this has turned it from something that kids are very excited about to um a way they can make a difference in community. And I just think it's just so incredibly very cool. Um we'll see what happens with
it. But I just I'm so proud of them. What a great what a great way to come together as a team. Um I also Oh, there's nothing on the next one. Sorry. I also get the distinct honor to introduce you to our new music. Oh, I'm gonna pass it over to Miss. >> Okay. Sorry, I hadn't read my phone. I'd [laughter] like to introduce Miss Brun, who is our brand new music teacher. [applause] >> [laughter] >> Sorry. My name is Colleen Green. I am the music teacher at Milmont Elementary. Um, I've been teaching for 16 years. The first seven years of my career, I taught elementary school music in Indiana. Uh the next five were middle school choir and young music in Indiana and one is a behavior consultant for county educational service center for
the last four years doing professional development teachers helping support trauma informed spaces in our buildings in our districts and our classrooms um and supporting teachers in making sure that all of our students are engaged to the best of their ability. So I feel incredibly privileged and grateful to have been invited to join such a warm and welcoming and arts focused community. And I am so excited to get back into the music classroom. I'm so excited that it's great not to be running away from a position, but rather to be chasing a position that you really want to be a part of. So, thank you so much for inviting me to join the building. It's been an absolute pleasure to be able to see. >> We are Colleen at this time of year. I'm sure um
and I think she brings some expertise that really will impact us. and all levels at our secondary level. So, we're very excited. >> Welcome. So glad you're here. >> Thank you so much. >> Thank you. [applause] >> Thank you for that update from Mills as well. Hopefully we get a little bit more snow [laughter] >> continue work on that project. >> Yeah. Um, and then do we want to take a minute to I know the Green County Center I saw our new mayors in the house and um do you have anything to report for the Green County Center >> was on the agenda but we'll add in here. Sorry. >> No, no report. Uh, I just So, first off, hello everyone. My name is Steven. Uh I am the career the Green County Career Centers
uh representative from the Springs for that award and and I report back and forth. I just wanted to uh come here and because I can't wait to report back to our board um about our new members and how the first meeting went. So, I just wanted to make sure to be here. I'm gonna also introduce myself to those who may not uh be in this position. I'm sure you may have heard of my name before that. Um, but I am still on the Green County Commissioners Board and will be for the next couple years. I just got reappointed and very happy to be so. And so, you will be seeing me, but you'll be seeing me from that perspective. And so I just wanted to make sure you got to see that I am here
to make sure that these boards are still connected and making sure that we all know what each other's doing. So um any questions, I guess. All right. Well, I'm so glad and congratulations to the three new board members. I'm so glad you're here. Can't wait to work with you. Um, you'll be seeing me a lot in the next couple of years. Indeed, >> Steve, just to note that we've changed our meeting time to Wednesdays at 5:30, so the second Wednesday at 5:30 instead of Thursday at 7. >> Oh, okay. That's okay. Well, that's happens the exact same time that the career centers meet up. So, we'll have to figure something out. >> And it might work with >> yours, >> right? >> There we go. >> Okay. That way. There we go. >> Solution. Perfect.
>> All right. >> Thank you. >> All right. Moving on to 2.6 mill. I don't think we have representative to speak. So, I'll just report on what they submitted. Um, looks like they have a skate night coming up uh Thursday, January 29th at the Orbit Fund Center in Bever Heights. So, join them for that. Um, and then also, um, just an announcement to save the day for talent night. I think everybody's almost favorite night of the year in our district. [laughter] So that um that meeting will take place on February 6th. Um signups and volunteer information will be posted shortly and um there will be a rehearsal for that as well for students right after school on February 4th. >> That's the time. >> Um 6 p.m. >> Okay. >> Can I make a quick
correction? We are reschedu night for our open house where we're going to invite our families to come in and see our phase one and phase two. for events which doesn't mean the building will be finished but um so we're resched we'll come back thank you yes to attend the open house and come see a new building instead all right five minute break does anybody need a five all right moving on to our district hospital facilities update 3.1 I will hand this over here we go exciting Um, okay. Can you go to the second slide? This is a little hard. Um, so four wheels long. We are about finished. When I say finished, thanks synonymously to about 75% of phase one and phase two. Phase one is the primary hallway you will hear referred to as
the 200 hallway. Phase two is this hallway beyond the doors there, the boiler room. That is the 100. Um, we have to move for reshuffleling so that we can begin phase three, which is everything pretty much up the ramp. So um classes are moving out of the modulars [snorts] into the modulars and we are going to actually take occupancy of the classrooms in that hallway mainly in the 200 hallway. So this is very exciting. We have a big move coming up uh this chamber what in about a week a week and a half. So over Martin Luther King weekend we will do all of the magic so that on Tuesday January 20th we will come in and begin class in the new thesis. We wanted to give teachers a bit of time to get acclimated
to the space they're in. That's why the open house that is here [snorts] discussed is not until January 29th. We also have a map on the date. Um but it's January 29th from 5 to 6:30. We will keep reiterating this but um I want everyone to understand when I said 75% complete. We don't have any like graphics or branding up. Um there are still some things that we're waiting for. We will have met all inspections. We will be cleared for occupancy. Um, but I don't want anybody to come in and say, "What is this? Is this what our money was spent on?" Because it just isn't. I think you're going to be amazed anyway. So, here we go. Um, these hang on, you can't go. These first two pictures um the new front entrance and
then on the um when you're looking at the screen on the right hand side is that same front entrance from the inside. So that is our secure vestibule. Okay. So here is your inside and you see the um office and then the picture on the right is actually the vestibule that goes out to what we will call the preschool area. Um this is the new office. It's clearly it's not finished yet. And as soon as I take a picture and put it in here, take their work happens and it doesn't look like this anymore. Um, but you see, you can see kind of the open door that goes into the old conference room if you remember that. This is the main office space and then the hallway that goes down the office uh interior corridor.
That's the door into the um grand conference room. I mean, I was just excited about that door. Um, and then here you see both a picture on the other short hallway that goes into the conference room and then the conference room itself got a little refresh. Um, what you see here are two walls of the clinic. Um, amazing. I think our nurse is going to be so overjoyed about this space. And you see the person um in the doorway back there. That's actually former board member of the UK who's in the clinic restroom. Um this next uh room on the left is a flex room in that office corridor hallway and then this is a a look from the end of the interior corridor out to the main office. Um, again, I think this is
maybe a flex room. Maybe the flex room I said before might be the individual's office. Um, this is the teacher workroom one view. So, if you look in this hallway, so it's in the 100 hallway on the other side. Um, I think they're going to be absolutely amazed. If you remember the old teachers lounge here. So, this is one of the road bags. This is the other view. Then we have this is the hallway going out of the 200 hallway. So um going out to the Philips Street side. The picture on the right is just again each room you'll see has this same cabinet here. It's a space for teacher um belongings or anything else they they choose. Um, and then the next few slides are pictures of classrooms. And I want you to note
the just the amount of light. Um, you can see the sun shining in these rooms. Um, and it's pretty amazing. It's just light and it was so dark every time I came. Love this building, but every time I came in, it just felt dark. So you see the cubbies, you see the storage. Um, this is beautiful [laughter] and these are our restrooms. Um, I'm happy to talk offline about our restroom. You can see the thumb and all appropriately size and the middle school high school. Again, different project, different different phase. Um, but in the gym, all the basketball hoops are installed. It's painted. The windows just went in in the gym. I said in the next two weeks, they did go in. um in the high school wing um which is one of those arms
in the back all the mechanic was done. Um they're going to quote energize the section on the 17th so that they can um they're trying to break all work undercover for the inclement weather that we're all betting that happens despite the 16. Um middle school wing is a little further. They did that second. So, the steel is still going up for that. Um, the 2002 portion of the building, which is what I'm calling the science and kitchen hallway, um, work continues there. Work is moving along in the kitchen. Um, there's drywall up there in the front office. Drywall is is up there. Uh, fine arts spaces, the band room is moving along. The choir room and the seam shop are probably last because they are connected to the auditorium. And that is all in our
current gym which we cannot give up at this point. So here's what this looks like. Front entrance. Um just I just love um this is the athletic entrance on this on the left side. So you come from the parking lot and go right in there for events. Picture of the gym. It's pretty amazing. Um there are the windows that that is not the windows that was pre-wind installation. You can see the hoops there. And then you can see the hoop on the right side. Okay, let me see if I got this. This is you're in the hallway between the gym and the locker rooms and the exterior um bathrooms. So that's what that left picture is. The right picture is the weight room. Again, hard to see here, but certainly if you access the presentation
from your computer, the photos are pretty good. Um, uh, this is in the, um, near the front office. Both of these, no, I lied. These are back in the high school wing. Um, so go up, Sarah. But right there, that picture on the right, that's the new high school art. have to orient myself. This is the commons. So you see when I said steel going up, you see the steel in the back. That's the middle school wing. This photo is being taken from the high school where the steel is already up and walls are up. Again, another view of the commons in that same design. It's just pretty amazing. And when you stand out here, you realize how big it actually is. Okay, go down one more. This is um the kitchen. So the left
side, what you are looking at is the dishwasher hood. And then you can see a hood further on. On the left picture, that is the um actual range hood. And then the other picture on the right, that's the entrance to the serving area. Again, another picture of the kitchen. This is the drive dry food storage. And then you can see the walkways. Um these pictures are of the high school wing. The one on the left goes actually out into think towards um the soccer field that direction. And then the one on the right, it goes into teacher work. This is part of our new mechanical room. We have a separate electrical room. A lot of high-end, highly efficient equipment. This is math classroom. Um, these are pictures, both of these, of the main office. You
can see the drywalls been going up there. And then another picture of the main office. So, this is that hallway if you can remember where the Spanish room and max room were. So, that would be on the right side of your photo. So, you're in the hallway looking into those rooms. The next photo is in that space. So that used to be the Spanish room, used to be Lor's room, all of that area is guidance, special ed related services, um band room. Um so you see the stairs to the upper level where we have storage. You see the small openings on the right hand side. Those are um two office and practice rooms and another another view of the band room. And that's it. And I've been in these buildings many times and I still
particularly in this this building have to really think about where where am I in this building. But I think um I can report that we're moving along and um Now it's down to the nittygritty and so questions. >> Thank you for that update. >> On 4:30 on January high school I'll send out communication. Thank you for that. I also want to send a thank you out to our teachers and staff and administrators for their patience and now living and working in a construction can be frustrating at times. Um but if you stick with us we will get there. All right moving on to four section four which is also Dr. Holton's reports. >> Yes. So, and also I do want to reiterate that thank you to the teachers and staff. They've done amazing. This is
not not an easy project. Appreciate it. Um 4.1 is just I won't go into these documents but we have a business advisory council and we do that through county. So Joy from the high school attends those meetings and as they provide presentations and minutes I will share them [snorts] with you. Um 4.2 I want to take a minute to talk about that. So, you have two documents. Um, [clears throat] a letter that that I'm not going to reference pretty much follows this presentation. So if you open that proposed so I'm gonna talk about this here but I want to tell you this is all the hard work of Megan and at the January session she and the principles be present but they're going to walk you through this um requests that we have. So, as
you know, the building project grades five to six will move to the secondary campus. Right now, um middle one from 8 to 2:30 and the middle school high school runs from 8:30 to 3:30. That needs to change. Just I want to briefly tonight just lay out the reasons. I know this is we want to be able to get into discussion with the board as well as understand the community's questions and concerns. Um so I'm just going to lay it out. You know that this is really the topic for the the January session. So we are requesting that we have a time change for um 2627 school and that would be long 8:15 to 2:45. So a 15 minute change and um 8 to 3. So the current issue at goes long is that in the
morning students arrive teachers. If you're a teacher that is really hard to get in your room and this would uh help us with supervision at the middle school high school the opposite is true. students and teachers dismiss together which then does not allow for a lot of post collaboration. Um this solution this slight time change with a few other changes we think is going to help collaboration. It's going to help um student support. It's going to help students. So if you go to the next page we have shared staff. So You're going to have music teachers, art teachers, PE teachers, as well as all of our related services. And Mr. Federal School will track when we have schedules that are so distinctly different that really bothers us a little bit. So again, another part of
our rationale for requesting this change in Green County, we have the latest start times. Um the neighboring districts uh run from 7:20 to 8 a.m. maybe one starts at 8:15. And we'll present all of this at the work session. And I want to say at this point I know even prior to my arrival the district did a lot of study about what's best for for start times for adolesence for their development for their sleep patterns and you know we are aware of what the research says. So we are not asking to go 720. I think we're asking to to maybe difference and have a more reasonable start time to um if you go to the next slide. um early dismissals. Yellow Springs Middle School and High School had 23 early dismissals this year in athletics.
And if you're a four, you miss 10 of the same class. 10. That's a lot. um because they have to be out early because our discipline is so um this change will allow us to um gain some transportation efficiency. So current challenges we have multiple staggered routes and cover more than 200 miles a day. The scheduling is complex. We know that we've had driver shortage issues like every other district around for for years now since um this will help reduce our bus mileage allow us to run fewer routes um and allow us to use the few drivers that we have more efficiently. So when I [clears throat] talk busing and I talk with kids of different ages on the buses, I think that strikes fear in parents um but I want us to be able
to have a discussion that is um database and and where we acknowledge that sometimes it's scary but we can also acknowledge that it may not be perceived. So here is our bus report. So for this year we've let it from August 24th. So that's last school through today we've had 11 bus you say that again. So there are six that's 11. Um, that's just rare and I would say that is a testament to the students that we have in the system. There's also a false narrative that our older students are bad. We've heard this in many ways. We heard it years ago when we talk about building configurations and that they provide a negative role model for their students. But when they look at the data, um, out of all of our Russians that we
have, all 73%. Um, so as we think about new start times and we think about becoming more efficient, we think about how might we reroute our buses and redo our schedules so that we might have um more students on the bus and be more efficient that way. And we think our older students can model appropriate behavior. you know, unless you have a an early child or children who are within a year or two, most families have students who are young and students who children um you know, it's our job to to teach them and help them appropriate appropriately model and they do and I want us to start talking back here again. Um so this is what you can do as an event help us overall strengthen supervision uh reduce cost align staff minimize disruption
for athletics and other extracurriculars um and help us align future with our school partners etc. Um, we want to have engagement. So, we want parents who if you have concerns or questions, please submit them. You can submit them. Communications at ychools.org. Our job is to be able to answer those questions and to minimize the fears that that parents may have. Um, that that's our request. So, questions now. >> Thank you for putting this together. Good information moving forward so everybody can take a look at what we're proposing here. Um, so just to kind of clarify, so siblings will be getting on the bus together and off the bus together. But what I understand what questions or comments have tonight? >> I just have one comment. I think that um the incidents also reflect our bus
drivers. They're amazing. Like our bus drivers have it under control. They're awesome. I not that you would not, but yeah, they're just really really great bus drivers. President Bailey brought up siblings and as the former principal I can't tell you how many times if he had an issue with a younger sibling how the older siblings really step up um and would model and sit with that younger sibling on the bus. So it was actually really an advantage um to have an older sibling on the bus with the younger sibling. And then the only other thing I would ask respectfully ask the community is to use the email address and ask the questions through that communication at biaschools.org versus going to social media where that can fuel emotions and we don't have the capacity to reply
um and to address those concerns to everyone. So please use the communications at ysschools um.org or and and allow us to address those concerns at the next meeting in January because we will happily answer those questions at that time. >> I I just wanted to clarify too um so this was great information. Thanks for putting that together and and um as I understand it, we'll work on this at the work session and we will allow comments from the community, particularly parents. We welcome them and I just want to make sure it will be on Wednesday or Thursday. Wednesday, January 2 at we're doing the >> 6 p.m. That's what I got. I know we're doing the change in February. So, I just wanted to clarify that. So, >> we will send communication out. >> You
will send it out. So, for anyone watching, you know, it's going to be that Wednesday, January 28th at 6 p.m. Work sessions don't always um allow for public comments. This one will. Uh and I'm eager to hear the feedback uh from parents uh especially maybe students will have something to say about this particularly our middle school and high school students and hear from our uh building administrators and if the teachers and the PTO also give us feedback that would all be very helpful as we move forward in this uh presentation all this attached in for us Anything else? Thank you. I know change is not always easy, but this seems to be a a solid thing so far, and I look forward to hearing from everybody so that we can make it as easy and
as smooth transition as possible. All right, moving on to item number five for policies. Um, so we have two items here. first 5.1 um I will turn it over to >> yes uh 5.1 um actually 5.1 and 5.2 are what we call administrative guidelines and that's what sits behind all of the policies. So in November and December the board approved policies related to these agencies and forms. So 5.1 is um the transportation guidelines. So for each policy that was approved there is a guideline that says how to implement that policy and just did not have these onhead. the same but for the non-discrimination policies. What that is is it's actually a form. So in our policy we do not name the compliance director. We say the compiance director is the director of student services. That
way when personal change you continually have to change it. However, in the form we do because somebody may say, "Hey, I want to file and they need specific." >> So, do I have a motion? We'll go ahead and open up any questions and take a vote. Motion to the person. >> Second. >> Any questions? >> [laughter] [clears throat] [laughter] >> Bailey. >> Yes. [laughter] >> Oh my god. All right. Um, item 5.2. Do I have a motion to open any discussion for the discrimination policy? >> Second. >> Any discussion questions? [laughter] [gasps] >> Yes. Potter. >> Yes. >> Myers, >> Yes. Motion passes 5. >> Moving on to item six. This is also another consent calendar. And this includes our school calendar and our tracking or track is the club support that Dr. This is
the second reading for our school calendar. Correct. So, second reading for school calendar. And then um the indoor track as a club sport um I believe it was Mr. Gel who is requesting um students who have an interest in indoor track uh club. So we just need to approve that. Uh, do I have a motion to open the administrative calendar for six items over the school calendar? It's a second read. Um, we had the first read last month. Um, again, the only changes were that we have a an extended weekend break in October to accommodate for the facilities. Any questions? Yes. >> Otter. >> Yes. >> Moving on to seven. Item seven. Do I have a motion to open the financial >> second to um November finance report there there was really not a lot
out of ordinary on the November finance report. Um just going to go ahead and scroll down. Um big thing would be keep going keep growing like the maximum percentages. If you look down at the bottom, um, so in total, we're pretty close to the budget expenditures. It's a little bit over where we've been anticipated to be at this point in time. And let me also a little bit over where we anticipate to be at this time, but um there will be an adjustment to the budget coming up in February. February, we have our second five-year forecast of the year that's got moved from May to February. So, we'll have that in coming up in February. Um, and then our advisor board forecasts are recommending us actually doing a third forecast in the year. We're going
to do May one just like we have in the past. uh that's the recommendation to be ready for the August one that's required. So um this year if uh if you recall we had the November 5 from November to October and the May one is due at the end of February now and then next year the first forecast is August. So in order to be ready for that August one they're saying we're going to do sort of a preliminary update that isn't important to the city in May and then there so right now um you know despite uh expenditures being a little bit over and then you know revenue over main due to income tax um [clears throat] we'll see those updates and those adjustments. Are there any questions for that? >> Yeah, Jay, few
months back you gave a overview of what the potential changes to your fiveyear forecast uh might would be if certain legislation through the state, you know, went through or didn't. Can you give us a quick update? I know you were saying it was really hard to kind of predict things because everything was so up in the air. So just what are we going to expect for February? >> Um so that part of the the February update finalizment. And then one more item is the resolution accepting the amounts and rates for taxation. This is just a formality that allows the county to um collect the taxes, the property taxes on our behalf. So that that is that resolution. It came in uh yesterday and then board docs was down. I couldn't get up until today, but
it's in the last and you can see those are what are those are what the rates are going to be for school year 2627 tax year 25. So it does get very confusing but these are not the the actual fees that were paid for last year. Any questions? >> Okay. Otter, >> yes. >> Myers, >> yes. >> Arizona, >> yes. >> Greg, >> yes. >> Bailey, >> yes. >> Motion passes 5 to zero. >> Motion to open the personel. second person. >> Yes, it's very standard. One thing I do want to highlight is schedule H. The state has two years ago in academ substitutes twice a year, once each semester. It's just more work on our end, but Thank you to all of our substitute teachers. Any questions? >> Yes. >> Bailey, >> yes. >>
Motion passes by. >> All right. Moving on to board communications. Um so this will be where um whichever committees we signed up for, we'll do our reports. Um so first up is the YSC report which I will turn to. >> Yes. So there was a meeting on just this last Tuesday. I was driving my daughter to Syracuse University. So I phoned in uh which meant that I could participate but not vote and Dr. Holden was also there. So I'll ask her to fill in uh for this report. Uh, as you can imagine, those of you have been following the news, the YSDC is looking at the purchase of a building on the main on Senior Avenue what we generally refer to as a hardware store and they received a number of of reports with regards
to soundness of the building, repairs, fire safety, etc. They went into executive session to discuss next steps and uh they then came out executive session and approved to the head when offering up purchase and I will get the minutes of that meeting to you when um when they're available. I just sent as I arrived back from searches today. I sent one set of minutes I got from attachment attachment, but I there are a couple more that are owing to our records which I'll get on. Um and that's that's about it. We have two new council members on the YSTC and that is currently and what's new. >> Oh yeah, Christine, she started in December. Yeah. And she is now vice president. other changes. >> Okay, that's it. Thank you. All right. Um, moving on to
the village of El Springs leazison report um that previously was um I did watch the council meeting on Monday. Uh so I just wanted to welcome the council members and um also um I do know that uh village manager burns reported on the baseball field damage. And so if anybody has any information leading to the damage to the baseball fields, um please feel free to get in contact with them. Um we had our last snow, somebody decided to run their car and donuts around the baseball field. So there's quite a bit of damage there. So anybody has any information, please feel free to reach out to them. Um all right moving on to the village of the active transportation committee. Um so in the future that will begin and I believe I I think the
next meeting is scheduled correct >> 21st. Okay great. So um we will look forward to that report um next month and then the legislative report I asked Dr. Holden to go ahead and update um what we've been given. This used to be Dr. UK's report. Um, luckily for us, I think the um, legislature is in recess until late January, so there's not too much to report. Um, so we will look forward to and Christie giving those updates in the future. Anybody else have any other board member announcements? just our next meeting will be uh our next work session Wednesday, January 28th at 6 pm. And then also the walk through um here at Milan for the new opening of our academic wing on January 29th 5:00 p.m. 5 to 65 to 6:30. The next regular
board meeting Wednesday will be Wednesday, February 11th. >> February 11th at 5:30 and then our work session will be February. Can I do a public service announcement? Next week is Frank at the John Legend Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. So, I believe we push communication out and support our festivals. I think it should be a great show. >> Can I piggy back on you and say that um I know they're collecting shoes. It's part of a fundraiser for the theater group. So, if you have shoes that are, you know, gently used, any size, they'll take them and it's they take them. There's a whole program about it, but you can find out more information on their Facebook page. >> All right. There are no other announcements. Do I have a motion to >> second? Yes. Reler,
>> yes. >> Bailey, >> yes. >> Myers, >> yes. >> Motion passes 5 to zero. for return at the end.
