[Music] according my yeah i know [Music] um [Music] um yes is senior year [Music] well and i'll go down uh [Music] um [Music] okay all right good evening everybody thanks everyone for joining us if you're joining us online uh we actually started meeting at six tonight where we went into an inception session an executive session we're uploading anything but we had something we also did a couple of minutes right before there won't be a video of that um but there were no moderations that we'll find so we will um well i can speak to this yes uh the board needs to appoint a member to the village's active transportation advisory committee and i know vice president okay is interested in this and she's attached documents to the agenda if i may add so i've added

the minutes so that you could see what the group has been doing but next week's meeting is when they're gonna work on their uh school transportation plan and this is something that they did five years ago that allowed that group to get the village to earn a grant to do safe routes on winter street so we need to update it so that they can take it to order again and then qualify for more brands to get more sidewalks and bike lanes that's it yeah and unless anybody else would volunteer or appoint somebody else then that we just need a motion and we will call it second point yeah so they revived the advisory the active transportation visa economy after we did our reorganizational meeting that's why we didn't vote on it in january and that's

why it's on the market there was no committee to appoint anyone to at that point we did our organizational data oh uh so i attended the last two meetings since they've been created and they worked about there was one meeting that was about the limestone sidewalk but it's going to be redone they also give an update about how that's going to be done by the summer they started working on the westbound college street where they're redoing the multi-use lanes that should be completed in the fall but not by the beginning of school and so next week is when we start the conversation about the school transportation uh the school transportation plan um eli for which is also invited to join this conversation as well as other community members um uh eli is not going to

be able to attend next week but he and i were able to chat about it i took his thoughts and i will complain back to the group in addition to my own not next week when we have a website and what's the duration are they planning on i do not know that's a good question i think it's uh last time that i think it was worth it for a year what i think it's ongoing it stopped maybe from the time it stopped but then they was covered you know and so for now it's been revived there's no expiration date to it well and i see that the construction is planned for twenty four so yeah um but i i just kind of like think it might be good to make sure that it gets um

i'm sure gary rios yes okay yes magnus yes turner yes motion pass five to zero all right 1.7 so um acknowledge everybody who came to join us tonight thanks for being here all right so number two we're moving on communications presentations and reports so two point one is communications we have another discussion point at 2.5 a little bit later on in the meeting uh which will be just a few few few sections down which will actually be uh directed toward the community for personal safety so if you did sign up they want to talk about school safety and not just more general comments that's fine we'll just let me know we'll tie you to 2.5 but other than that i'll go down the list for uh the community comes to address john oh um so

uh i've worked with uh judith on adapting the council rules for debate other things and i do think that it would be helpful to allow um to have citizens comment um to on at the agenda item if there's an agenda item that they're commenting on so that the discussion is like contiguous i think that would both help for the community members to feel heard and probably also help for uh the board to uh be able to sort of um keep those comments in mind and sort of have them irrelevant also it gives an opportunity for uh the board to sort of present the issue um and sort of set the table so that committee members are responding in a more sort of helpful fashion i think um i understand that there is a concern that

um sort of hostile actors might use that opportunity um like the kkk or whatever to try and make a scene um i certainly believe that uh the two-thirds super majority should be able to suspend any of the rules that were um recommending including the right via the rules governing citizen comment um so if you felt like you didn't want to hear a group's comment or whatever you could just make a motion to suspend the rules as long as the two-thirds super majority supports it the rules can be suspended to accomplish whatever you wanted to do in terms of how you want to shape debate um i think that that's perfectly proper the two-thirds you know it's your meeting two-thirds super majority should be able to shape debate however they would like um i guess i

also wanted to speak to the appointment of the maintenance plan advisor i read dorothy's letter in the in the packet and um it seems to me sort of um in relation to the committee's charge to sort of get together a maintenance plan so that it can be informally compared with building new uh that the information that the committee has developed so far sort of is still insufficient for that purpose and it didn't seem like uh the comments that were pointed to by the applicants sort of constituted the sort of hard evidence that the community i think would want um in order to sort of make that decision and without a maintenance plan advisor it seems like it would be difficult to sort of develop enough information so the community felt like uh renovations had really

been looked into thoroughly enough to know whether or not that uh which was preferable you know doing renovations or building new thank you for your time i have two things one i've been informed that at the facilities committee meeting a week ago thursday i may have been more abrupt than i should have been in my report if i offended anyone by saying that poor maintenance had been performed on parts of this building it was not to target any individual i don't know when the maintenance was performed i don't know who performed that maintenance i just observed the condition of it so i'm sorry if i did offend anyone um second as i just pointed out i'm a member of the facilities committee and i've been one part of designing and working on the facilities committee

from the time i think that the idea came up and the idea came up in response to the fact that we as a community haven't been able to make up our minds about what we want to do with our facilities here and we're so we came up with the idea of let's get some more information that might make the decision easier to make and to stop at this point is just backing up to the same place we were three years ago and one year ago okay which is trying to sell new buildings without any new information about why we should build new buildings so we're trying to provide additional information it may make it perfectly clear that we can't restore these buildings or restore one of them or the other but on the other hand

if we don't have that information that doubt is going to remain in a great many people's minds am i close enough to the owl probably not you know ladies and gentlemen my name is lawrence charles skirthofford jr i've been involved with your school buildings for over 40 years i've been asked to talk about the electrical safety i.e sparks coming out of outlets and how that led to some people believing the entire system was unsafe now i'll tell you a little spark story back when they used to teach typing when they had selectrix and everybody sat in a little room together and had a bunch of selectors and all plugged in on the floor the students would kick the outlets and sparks would fly now that was because of poor construction so the buildings themselves with

all their conduits and so on and so forth are ripe for renovation i mean they're right i mean you couldn't ask for anything more if you build a new building and don't specify that there's conduit in those walls you'll get some little curlicue flexible wire you'll never get new wires in there you'll have to bring something entirely new so without that knowledge going forward you have some difficulties i believe the electrical system in the buildings will need to be upgraded especially if you're looking for hvac but as far as safety is concerned with what's here if there was a maintenance program that had been adhered to for the entire life cycle of these buildings those issues would have been taken care of ahead of time someone would have seen this and when i say someone

i don't mean just the maintenance man or the janitors i think everyone the teachers the students everyone's responsible for their where they live so with a proper maintenance program similar to the ones that are listed in the reports you would have been much better off than you are today you would have appreciated the life cycle costing of your building and if you're going to plunk down millions which we did in the early days let's see the first wave of computerization in this school the one we're standing in today i helped design the electrical system as well as the cabling system under the auspices of jack klein who was the architect of the high school and i also designed the same for the high school now that was the first wave obviously that's been superseded so

you can see with conduit in place you pull out one take out a piece of copper pull in a piece of fiber so maintenance and maintenance programs are paramount if you're going to protect your investment this school is right for renovation that's all i see but thank you is the owl happy yes as long as they all stop burning first good evening i'm bernadine parks i've been a resident of yellow springs for over 30 years and i grew up in this area and i am fully aware of what difficulty the surrounding school districts have traditionally had in passing school levies the thing that yellow springs was noted for was the support that the community has always given to our schools the last two levees are an anomaly and i think that probably many of you

that are sitting at the table making decisions were heartbroken over what the voters said to you which is they were not going to support a new build and that was for a lot of reasons it's not just about the money there are sustainability issues that are very important to members of our community when they sent their message they also sent to the school board their two highest vote getters were amy and judith who ran on a platform of looking to see how feasible an improvement levy was and so when the board reconstituted in that i was really heartened by the fact that you came together and came up with a facilities committee to establish a plan it feel felt to me like you heard the community saying we want this information before we can decide

i'm here to speak to the importance of approving an mpa what this committee needs is what the community needs the community needs to know that the process that has been determined to come up with a report from a facilities committee has been supported by this school board so that they can make a decision based on information that they trust about how they want to vote i will tell you that i believe in this community people support education that they want to know how their dollars are best being spent and the facilities committee will give us that even though there may be enough cost to it i've spent 35 years professionally listening to people and teaching students how to listen people do not change their opinion do not change their behavior do not change their mind

until it has been communicated to them that they um that one understands and hears their concerns and is being responsive to it the facility committee is this school board's attempt to communicate to the community that they've been heard and i want to urge you to support the facilities committee with whatever they need so they can come up with a report that the community can trust and feel good about and make their decision to support whatever plan this school board comes up with contingent on that thank you michael slaughter i'm mike slaughter uh i'm a member of the facilities committee i thought this committee's mission was to provide a maintenance renovation plan based on permanent improvement leverage my understanding of the comments on renovation life cycles are that renovation with maintenance at a predetermined level will

extend the life of the schools indefinitely no one in this village is renovating their home with the thought of tearing it down 50 years or 100 years from now if you want to maintain that home i believe this is what the community voted for and i request that you let this process play out thank you i'm having a hard time with yourself david is it okay sorry oh i'm fine it's gonna be either there i am somewhere okay i gotta get down now so i'm also on the facilities committee and uh last week when we were looking for the uh when we were listening or discussing the maintenance plan i thought it was a bit of a pity that it went off track um when we were discussing it and there were comments about um

so the whole idea of this is that we figure out what we're going to do with the schools what sort of maintenance we're going to do and whether maybe it is feasible to rebuild at the moment no one really knows the village has certainly stated that they want to rehab so that is sort of how this whole committee came up but last week in our discussions immediately there were comments made that the maintenance plan advisor said that it would be cheaper to build a new building and that was not correct and the um one of the mods as they were leaving tongue-in-cheek he turns around he said if you're 50 million build a new building what the heck have we 50 million we'd have already built the new building we don't have 50 million the

village is fairly poor as far as money for the schools goes at the moment so 50 million isn't going to just drop out of the clouds the second group that that came in and he their architect mike huff he said it was cheaper to renovate than it was to rebuild and in a conversation before the meeting and where mike whiskey our own architect he mentioned that the way things have gone now it is actually turning out cheaper to rehab than it is to to rebuild if we had actually started building the building when the first levee came in we probably would be up to our neck in debt at the moment the same way as the village ended up in debt on the water treatment plant which has resulted in ungodly high rates for our

water in other words we would have a building half built prices for all the components and the labor would have gone up and we now would be looking stupidly at ourselves saying how do we get out of this situation if we if we had already started rehabbing the buildings we would just be ticking along nicely and our buildings would be better than they are at the moment and equally there was a presentation made by mr mcgrath and it was again saying that we should redo yeah that we should just go ahead with new buildings that he didn't feel it was good and i think you know this is not the time for these comments our comments at the moment should all be just based on the information we're getting and waiting to see where the

figures all turn out because if we're using figures that were generated two or three years ago and comparing them to themselves we're really just talking about nothing because prices of all sorts of construction has gone through the roof in the last two three years um i know that come up was made earlier there about some of the maintenance people may feel bad i know i have certainly made comments about the maintenance and some of the maintenance is poor the poor maintenance is not a result of the person doing the maintenance the maintenance is poor because the school board has not funded maintenance i mean you cannot expect ability to stay together if if it's not getting paid for and for instance does this flashing between the high school between the offices and the gymnasium he

has no money to fix that he's trying to put tower on it and caulk on it and it's still leaking down into the offices and everywhere i mean these sort of things should not be happening there should be proper maintenance money i mean the amount of maintenance that we have for for two huge buildings is infinitesimal if you were to take how much you spend on your house over 10 years divide it into one year so you've got furnaces and roofs and stuff in it and then multiply that out for the cost of it or the square footage of the buildings you discovered that you're spending way more than the school is per square foot and equally we talk about you know the new buildings we haven't even got around no one in the village

is even talking about how we're going to fund maintenance on the buildings we have or new buildings if we were to do it so i think maintenance money should really be a focus of the school board at this stage no matter what buildings we go in even if we were to build a new building we would still have to have five or six years in these buildings and you cannot just not do maintenance um so that is pretty much the um the end of my comments thank you very much i'll speak louder i'm very tapping i've been the resident of yale springs for 43 years both of my sons attended yellow spring schools and uh i'm recently retired after a 50-year career as a industrial uh the facilities engineering uh the school's uh facilities committee

has been established which i'm a current member helped move the district forward and planning needed building renovation and construction it's my understanding that an item that may be discussed tonight's meeting is the engagement of a maintenance plan advisor to assist the district and the facilities committee in a detailed evaluation of the existing school facilities community support necessary for construction of a new school has not materialized despite two previous levy attempts i believe that the main issues contributing to this lack of support were price point environmental sustainability issues and the preservation of green space here at mills lawn school further investigation of alternatives to a new school will address the price point and sustainability issues and the green space preservation issue will disappear if mills law and school isn't retired it should be noted though that

disruption of classroom construction due to renovation and construction is also an important issue that needs to be addressed to regarding the price point issue a member of one of the mta teams that was interviewed indicated that the ohio facilities construction commission utilizes what can be characterized as a top-shelf approach to cost estimated the top-shelf approach is certainly attractive to the school district when the state sent funding 75 percent of the school costs not so much when uh our district would be funding 75 of the school costs with a small residential tax base our decisions are need to be made to mesh educational facility needs with affordability of the community as a whole the purpose of engaging in mta is to get an in-depth evaluation of needs and costs involved in providing and maintaining safe functional

facilities with sustainability in mind hopefully at a cost point that is more likely to garner community support the mpa team will consist of engineering experts first in the evaluation maintenance and design of mechanical electrical plumbing and technology systems along with components of the building envelope architectural services will also be required to develop a program for building renovation and construction necessary to address educational objectives hopefully this exercise will result in a workable plan that's more likely to garner necessary community support also the planned detailed vetting the school improvement alternatives will likely be a positive influence on voter sentiment related to future tax flooding measures thanks i'm kathy adams and uh i wrote a letter to the editor and if you have a chance please read it in the all springs news because i want to thank

everybody here because we started off after the new school board and judith and amy got the highest votes with a new slate and i was so happy that dr holden and the administration the teachers and the school board have all gotten together and um okayed this facilities committee to begin because we felt that a lot of the villagers feel that we never finished the facilities advisory task force job with real numbers for that reason i really want to support your votes for or if you're going to vote for it or your funding of the mpas because those will give us real numbers to compare and i had not heard that one of the mpas had said that renovation was cheaper but surely it must be at this time with the cost of construction and the

supply chain problems and in my letter to the editor i had read a recent article about huber heights and they were planning and had seven million dollars to create a career tech center in their high school and also maker spaces in five i think elementary schools well now that they are ready for construction is 10 million so what did they have to do go back and look at what the most important things were according to the parents and they decided to forget about the five elementary schools and solely do the makers to the career check center in the high school so i'm really glad that we did not okay that huge levy with borrowing that much money for that long a time um because i'm afraid we would run into the same problems the truth

is you know canvassing the neighborhoods during the school levees practically everyone's concern is affordability and i know you want things new and everybody around us is getting something new i go past airbornes all the time and we see it everywhere but our community is tiny and we don't have a huge tax base and we don't have businesses like we used to because i'm a k-12 grad and i grew up here and my kids have all attended and graduated from here and um my sister and brother and two step-brothers but um we used to have a lot of business we don't have that tax base anymore so um i wanted to thank you for doing this work and i really would like you to continue it by funding the npa without the mpa advising us it's

really an essential piece and i don't think we're even though we have wonderful volunteers that are doing a great job we need real numbers so that we can make our decisions based on that and i think it's the best way to pass a levy it's been two times i've never seen this in my lifetime and two in a row is too much and we need to give our teachers and our communities some money so let's go with what the majority of the voters have been trying to tell you and not build new thank you don't see me here hi i'm cam right i've uh my wife and i have lived here uh over 30 years and um the amazing levees operational and i've supported every single one except the last two i felt just too

much ridiculous i love this community i was a volunteer paramedic for a fire department for 20 years and i've been a volunteer ranger for long haul in the last three years i've literally donated thousands of hours of my life to this community because i love it it's not all about money to me i love this community i read from the committee to all of you which sparked me to come but since that time i've also read treasurer j mcgrath's comments in the newspapers i'd just like to make a couple comments i thought that his list of identified needs was very reasonable and i would support something like that that's what we need i thought that his his figures that he gave us maybe were just slightly misleading when he talked about the 6.5 uh levy

versus the 4.5 how much it would cost well one is for 10 years one for 37 and then also no house is 100 000 a garden shed costs twice a hundred thousand dollars in this town so the numbers of the amount that you have to pay uh is really a lot higher than that and as to the the two letters the facilities committee the for maintenance and upgrades may just provide safe and well-pumped human buildings we're all on board for that look into the capital improvements that are necessary to meet these needs we're all on board for that investigate resources needed to maintain facilities we're on board for those three things all three candidates for mpa assured the community the committee that all have worked with many districts with buildings of our developing schools age

and tradition this means from the experts that our school buildings are not out of the norm to be used as a safe and usable space for education this is also the release of 60 percent of our paying voters so any board members still on the fence on this issue need to get off that fence and accept the financial realities of our limitations the financial reality currently faced by our citizens and by extension by this school board my part sorry i can't pronounce the after effects last week put together a draft list of what was referred to as our needs as you pointed out in the report this list must be seriously triaged and prioritized i disagree with categorizing mike's list as our needs rather is a mixed list of both needs and wants of some

i was somewhat disappointed to read board member dorothea's report regarding hiring an mpa the report seems to have accepted everything on mike's list as being urgent needs and that she stated that she's not in favor of moving ahead with hiring an mta unless all the things on mike's list both the actual needs as well as some of the once some kind this guy wishes if someone was bored and some of the facility users i admit are included dorothea's reports seem to be have completely ignored the facility committee's three stated tasks as i listed earlier and her report seemed completely focused on re-adopting last year's board's plan of tearing down our schools and placing our community in crushing depth by building new please do not take our community down that road again that road split this

community it fit neighbor against neighbor do not take us there again she spoke very clearly at the ballot box listen to us so many items on my list from building expanding administrative offices to decoupling them in theaters building space for peace tools resurfacing all the floors walls and ceilings they look fine to me and enlarging the kittens kitchens and some of the others are not actual needs that once he desires some of those wants and desires may be feasible in the future after we pay for actual needs but i urge this board to focus currently on those actual needs to provide safe and usable space almost finished these are particularly challenging financial times so many of our citizens are truly truly struggling to afford to continue to live in our village not anyone can afford

to buy a three or four hundred thousand dollars home and pay its high real estate taxes so many items on mike's list involve not improving or maintaining but rather enlarging really our school population is not growing in fact i believe that over fourth of our students are transfers from outside our school district i would never suggest removing any of our current district students who made our homes their educational family never but if you all believe that the schools are too small for the number of students then you need to accept start accepting fewer outfitters that's reality do this in irms we understand to the core of our being the concepts and practice of triage when you literally can't save everyone's life you understand triage and even in most non-medical situations you can't do everything for

everyone but you can do what is necessary you can manage one resources wisely and yes sometimes painfully having to put things on the back burner this is the task the 60 percent of our voting taxpayers have given you very clearly twice now this is your mandate in the community you serve thank you all right that is reports okay so the first item that i have in my report is race to the finish line this was a project that the first grade students had the opportunity to participate in they designed built and painted a wooden derby car and this was all thanks to dan badger he facilitated this project and then hosted an actual derby car race out on the tennis courts we are working with dan to make this an annual um pbl for our

students and we are also working with him to create maybe some more projects in the future so it's just another reason um why it is so important to create these relationships with community members family members and businesses here in yellow springs and you can see by the pictures the students have lots of fun um the next thing i don't know about you but if you had field day when you were younger it was one of the most exciting days um of the school year i remember like picking out my outfit the night before i couldn't wait for field day when i was younger and it doesn't seem like that is changing anytime soon for children so we had field day kindergarten through fifth grade this year so they have a chance to experience water activities

and races physical challenges one of their favorites eating the popsicles provided by our pto we made the decision this year to take sixth grade out of um the field day activities and have them do a young's dairy trip and if you've been out to young's dairy during the last couple weeks of may there are lots of schools from around the area doing kind of the same thing so it gave our sixth graders an opportunity number one to maybe feel a little bit older and also gave them an opportunity to interact with some of the other schools that were out there and and the feedback from the sixth graders i think was that they really liked the opportunity of going to young's versus being out at field day with some of the younger students at mill's

lawn so you can see pictures from field day and then there are some pictures i think on the second page of the sixth graders you know acting like they're going into middle school so you can see that the difference but they really enjoyed that and i had a chance to go out there they just it was fun to see them interact with other schools and other students their age um and then this being my first year at mills vaughn and in yellowstone school district i have not participated in a clap out before and it was really fun to go visit some of my former senior high school students that are at yellow springs high school and participate in the clap out for them and then also have the sixth grade clap out here at mills

lawn and leslie if you scroll down that's just a list of our sixth grade students that are moving on to the middle school we had the entire student body come out of the classrooms line the hallways the sixth graders um then came through the hallways we had music playing and just kind of saying hey goodbye and good luck in middle school we want to thank all the community members and family members that came out to support the sixth graders we were not sure if it was going to rain or if the rain was going to hold off we brought everyone in the in the gymnasium and then it was last second we're like nope we're doing it outside because we think that would be more fun so we had the mascot and you can see

all the family members and community members that came out um to support the sixth graders and then we also had our sixth grade farewell program which was more of a formal program and that was a we had a good turnout there as well so we weren't so lucky the weather won for us so uh this spring um you know we we through the pandemic we shifted a lot of the stuff that we normally did inside to outside and up until this year we had great luck and great cooperation with the weather this year we had to move homecoming one day um prom which we'll talk about the minute it got rained on um pretty steadily for a while and then graduation two years ago it was the first year that we did a parade through

town um and and our seniors loved it and it was something our seniors have really looked forward to um and this year unfortunately they were calling for rain it was actually raining right when the parade was getting ready to like when we would have been lining up for it so unfortunately we we also were planning on having graduation out on the soccer field um but everything moved inside and we had to cancel the parade so graduation looked a little more traditional than it has in the past but it was certainly still a fun night to celebrate and recognize students one of the joys of having a combined middle school in high school is we get to see our kids grow over six years and for these students i actually was a teacher it was their

seventh grade teacher so to get to you know have that that close relationship that you're gonna develop as a teacher and then to get to see these students um you know finishing in the big things they're going off to do in life we have 76 of our graduating classes planning to attend a two or four year college which is is great um and that's a number actually that we have identified as a goal to increase for next year um with targeted support throughout the year um we had 65 graduates out of 66 students so we have one student that's finishing up a lot of final credit over the summer right now um so so we're very pleased with that and all in all it was just a for me it was a fun night to

celebrate our kids uh with that we are transitioning there are new graduation requirements for the for next year's class so that's something we've been intentional um with our communication over the last couple years we've had a lot of parent evenings um inviting parents in and then even like our graduation ceremony the last three years we put the diploma seals so like when we're announcing the student's name where we have a presentation that has the diploma seals so that's an intentional motivator so our underclassmen who are seeing that that's going to become a graduation requirement for next year so so there's just a lot like kind of underlying things with graduation that we're doing to try to usher in those new graduation requirements but for now i want to just recognize our our graduates and wish

them the best um go ahead and scroll down leslie the the next part is is really just a celebration and kind of the organized chaos that spring is in the high school it's a very busy time but it's also a time of celebration so as you look through these pictures the first two pictures you see um that's prom so the wyrics generously allowed us to use the pavilion again this year um which makes it just a really great venue for prom it's even better when it's not raining and storming but ultimately even with the storms it was a great venue and we appreciate their support our kids had a great time again the next two pictures that you see one is deandre so we had three students who nearly um qualified for state so we

had cheyenne um nearly qualified in 1600 ran a pr um in the last race but just misqualifying but i think two spots if i'm correct and then we had malcolm blunt who um nearly qualified and then deandre nearly qualified in the 200 and did qualify in the high jump and ended up finishing sevens in high jump so um really proud of deandre as a as a student athlete and and just a fine young man that's made tremendous growth and i'm excited to see where he goes oh yeah he was warming up and just just bouncing over yeah i mean really a phenomenal athlete so um and then i also want to recognize our our softball team so it was probably seven or eight years ago where we were teetering on losing softball as a extracurricular

um we just did not have the numbers and coach jim came out and and rallied the students and has built a program quite a program um and this year uh again the rain won so um until the last week of the season our softball team had only played three games because the games just continued to get right now and then in the last week of the season they had double headers three consecutive nights and won all six games and ended up winning the conference so congratulations to to the softball team um go ahead and scroll down and then national honor society so that's our new um class of inductees for national honor society we also it's not pictured up here but we had our our award ceremony for our high school students this spring that's

the the ceremony that we move from the school day to the evening and it's it's really it's primarily a celebration of our seniors and it's a public um awarding of the local scholarships so thank you to the community foundation for organizing that and to all the local organizations for supporting our students i think we gave away i want to say 102 000 of local scholarship money to our seniors and then you see the concerts down there we had um i think fifth grade through twelfth grade band and orchestra concerts and then you'll see a guitar and choir concert also featured and then the last part um is may term so this year the last couple days of school are difficult um in any school this year we took a different approach and for the last

four days we had a may term where students could select it to kind of a passion-led activity and our teachers were able to create activities that they were passionate about and it was a four-day deep dive into those activities so instead of following a schedule they picked an activity and they worked deeply in that activity for four consecutive days so a lot of different fields the students could choose from the we had a one group that worked just around the grounds and different special projects and as they were working in our front the front kind of driveway there our courtyard they ended up finding this these blocks that were buried i think by the class of 2000 in i want to say 2004 or 2003 that they were actually buried in 1999 and i've been

with the schools since 2006 and had no idea they were there the grass had grown over them and as they were doing this they kind of unearthed it so it's kind of a cool um archaeological find against and then we had things we had like a beautification um course where like students were able to really think about them and their inner beauty and then they also did things around outer beauty with like makeup and hair and did makeovers and um it was really fun to see students like walk out of that room with smiles like i had never seen from those kids so i think ultimately it was a huge success it was almost entirely planned by kevin lighty or organized by kevin lighty and then the ohio school library network contributed a 5 000

grant and the yellow springs community foundation gave us a glance to cover all other expenses up to five thousand dollars so thank you to both those organizations thanks okay i only have two short items the first is just an update about summer school we weren't sure if we're gonna have summer school because i think a lot of our families and teachers are taking advantage of the fact that they go on vacation we do some things together with family that they couldn't previously so we thought we'd keep it small we mills on which we had space for about 14 kids i think it ended up as it ended up being more like 11 kids 11. and um they and mrs babra stepped up to the plate and offered to teach summer school and she had a

great idea to have the kids doing some gardening and doing writing activities around their gardening and so they got some tomato plants i think they're going to be they're doing some some weeding to do some planting um but i i think they're all excited i didn't get to see the tomato plants yet but i saw some of the garden implements back there some of them cleaned out a bed back here so their focus is whether it's and then at the high school there's approximately 20 students who are participating in online courses through our apex analytics programs and our guidance counselor shane murano is working this summer she'll be monitoring the students progress making sure they're keeping up with their courses and making sure they have access to their courses and the second item that i

have is just more informational spirit federal grants it's called federal programs and we're closing out all the ones for this school year and looking at setting up the funding applications and the budgets for the next full year and so i list it off since everybody knows with those however you kind education expanding opportunities for each child which is a long heavyweight thing and this morning that we got and then the american recovery which a lot of people know about the sr grants and then there's also american recovery for ikea which is special ed so we just have to get all of those things and order all the applications in because they have to be substantially approved before we can start obligating the money for next year thank you all right so let's just finish our

mystery reports in 2.4 you just have something that's not on here it is something that we were going to do uh last month but uh she was able to hear me kind of miss the boat but she's unable to be here tonight because hopefully she is somewhere enjoying herself i want to be choked i don't know uh but but our middle school high school nurse tina and the gentleman it has um i'm gonna say retired she's really um resigned to pursue her other passions um and she i know jack wants to speak about her but i just want to thank tina i want to thank you publicly um and i had an interesting relationship where we challenged each other and i said who is going to she truly was an asset not only to the

middle school high school but to the district particularly navigating the past um two years and change so tina wish you all your best yeah so we do have a plaque here for tina i i've had the opportunity to work with tina for the last six years she really brought stability to the school nurse position that was kind of a revolving door for us for many years before that and and tina was more than just a school nurse you know she was kind of the the school mom for a lot of our kids and she really she really was a family member so tina's some of her passions include cooking and baking and we certainly appreciated that in the office as well but but you know she she she did it because she loved the people

she worked with and tina worked as a nurse for 35 years she was a she worked in children's hospitals she worked kind of in pediatric offices and then she was a school nurse actually for 20 years the last six year in yellow springs so interestingly you know i i got sick the last couple weeks of the school year and tina was bringing me stuff at my house bringing me um desserts and bringing me soups and so it was one of those things that was actually after she had already retired she was still taking care of me and she had no reason to other than just being a great human being so um tina is traveling right now and i'm happy for tina and her husband to be able to have this time now they're not

both retired um to be able to pursue their other interests but we will certainly do so keep reaching out to a nurse friend to try to find a replacement for you thank you sir we've had outreach from several community members just about around school safety i recognize that it's obviously a topic that's been in the news of late um so a few folks that express may be interested in coming in um that moves us on to 2.6 and we have uh five minute break and then that way those who uh wish to escape the rest of the meeting quite a uh we'll ways it sorry there we go what's up [Music] in is all right wow you know oh um thanks okay 12. sorry a few minutes passed around she said we are going to

restart the room the exciting parts are done all right so now we are at uh section 3 our treasures river and 321 is the kind of report um if there are no questions are there any questions my typical person doesn't have any questions um these are these are uh these are clematis from my garden uh yes we are more than 90 of the way there um there is not a lot of big things to note in the financial statements other than our almost there we will come out a little bit under budget for expenditures this year which is a good thing and mostly in purchase services revenues are up from you know we're still ahead um but most of the pieces revenues come in right now the big thing that we have left is state

foundation um we have a lot of grant money that should be coming in i put in our final pcr request for the year so some of the things that donna was speaking about um the federal grants um there's also a deadline to make your last cash request for the year so i'll put in my cash request for everything that we had spent um so hopefully those should come in before the end of the year you will see a couple things down in the financial section like advances advances is advancing those federal funds so that they're all positive by the end of the year i am assuming that we will get the cash requests that we made because they have been approved by the state at this point so that there is the assumption with that

we'll also be adjusting this year's budget to include a federal grant that at the beginning of the year they didn't really give us a fund number and then they did change it to 584 so that is the appropriation increase that you see we've known that we have the money we have a plan for it but it's a matter of appropriating that fund and then we'll also be approving the initial budgets for next year this is a preliminary initial budget it has to be passed prior to the annual fiscal year so that we can start spending money and pay people in july but the first official appropriations are due in august so the numbers you see tonight are very round and then the one in august will be a lot more specific are there any questions

comments concerns so in the pie chart where where the money comes from um so the same foundation that says 19 that is that what money has come from yet that is our total yes um so that'll probably be a little bit larger next time because real estate is not getting any bigger we got all that money um and then other local that most fans come in income taxes all in so yeah you'll probably see the state foundation will probably grow you know into the 20 next month but this is all of the money that we've collected here today so if we're getting revenue in an area and we're not collecting in other areas that these will grow okay i'm good to move on to section 4. okay all right so moving on to section four

uh this is the adoption of our content calendar uh that financially so i have a motion to open i made a motion okay so i sort of touched on these um this is the temporary approaching appropriations for that next fiscal year that starts on july 1st as i pointed out these are very round numbers um based on history and then the fy 22 appropriation changes is the exact amount for fund 584 and then the final thing and if you go back and look at minutes from last year um usually there's a special meeting at the end of this month where i ask everybody for the advanced money that we're going to need and to improve the appropriations and to make use of final question adjustments um so you'll notice i i didn't have a lot

of these figures until today but normally they're not available so that you know it's very frequently not available to the end of the month but um so the advances are a little bit high on the side of caution and that that's the money so it would compare them to last year is higher but we're also not waiting until the end of the month until we have the exact numbers to ask for advances advances they come out of the general fund so i will advance them over to these funds to make sure that they have a positive cash balance at the end of the school year and then in the first week of july i'll pay the general fund back out of these so um it's it's something that's required and i will say something that's

good to know is we are not advancing the food service fund so a lot of times you'll see 006 on here because food service a lot of times runs in the red services is in the black this year so that's good um and then and i'm assuming that's because of the state of the complete 300 uh thank you for pretty much just yes that that has had a big impact um the collectible amount from a free meal the federal reimbursement is often better than what you would get if your students were paying cash and when we come back um that program will be going for more later we'll be approving the renewal of our food service management and contracts so they and i will tell you that their financial picture is always the biggest financial

picture because that is their cannabis guarantee that they will meet that budget number so if they don't and they take it out but their their picture for this year was a lot of um to address all right are there any questions about the appropriations changes or the advances um the advances this year are a little bit bigger because i am making um estimates without seeing the final receipts come in um a lot of you know if you look around in other boards or even last year here there's a lot of times there's a special meeting at the end of june to um iron out all these five final numbers um so you can use the exact numbers because you have everything that fit on we're still in the middle questions yes magnus yes turner yes

the area rios yes motion pass five to zero okay all right so uh anybody notice the first time in 27 months i have not started my update with the copenhagen report but it's not written um safety and security i was hoping some folks would come and speak to us but we have received emails and i would urge parents and community members if you have concerns about the city please reach out please know we are actively working on um improving safety here for our students because they are our greatest priority in our our greatest treasure we are working with the village as well as the yspd on these efforts so we will keep the community across to that regard um summer work so the don mentioned summer school so i know i won't rehash that the

admin team so once the students and staff leave you know it's not really slowing down it's i feel like everyone 300 miles an hour um we're doing a lot so here are just some examples we are completing a staff handbook that's that's my work um athletic handbook that's being revised student handbooks at both buildings and you will see these board as they are coming to completion um bias reporting system we had a long meeting today talking about that and how that links into our current reporting system and um you know there's some intricacies involved with that um so our mtss plan which is which is really twofold rti how do we support our students how to intervene with our students in the pbis how do we support our students socially emotionally behaviorally so that package

really should should help us get better outcomes communications i know that when i was out created denny presented the draft communications plan to want to highlight some things that are on there you know the district website is up hopefully you find it better i find it just it's in a different world it is not complete it's each day more is completed we're working on pushing out our mobile app related to that but there have been some um vendor issues with that and we don't like how the data is being presented on that so that that is coming um we are using final forms of next year for the district so parents you will see that in terms of you'll be able to do all complete all of your documents that way at the beginning of

the year and not have to repeat this over and over helps us track things better that's how we're doing our enrollment process this year parrot square i met with eric uh and karina about some parent square which is going to replace our one call now system one call now is a bit antiquated they won't might be saying that they're being antiquated and parent square is a much easier app to communicate with parents so we're transitioning to that and there will be a lot of communication and meetings with parents about here's what it is here's how to use it i think folks if you use social media you're going to find it quite simple and then district profile so that is the profile that we attach to our local report card and so that when folks

go online at ode and they search the district they they have our state report card but they also have that information that we supplement which is our district profile so we haven't had one since um i believe 1819 so that will happen because in the fall we will be getting our comprehensive results and then next month i'm going to announce some dates for next year so that will be quarterly coffees with me for parents and community that will be the state of the school's address which will be sometime in september um forum will be being really presented along the chain here is the state of the yellow spring schools this year so i'm actually i i don't know where it will be i don't know the location of the probably um but i'm a little

excited about it in terms of it's a way for us to really um show everything that we're doing because i don't think people always get to see the full picture and that should be a nice event so those are some communication pieces we are doing summer facilities work at both buildings um our normal cleaning and polishing before kids return but we are also doing some small projects so i'm going to say here this wall on in megan's office is temporary and we're going to take that down because quite honestly when we talk about needing more space we don't talk about it generally in terms of we need more classrooms right we talk about it in that we need more learning spaces for kids and quite honestly we need more office we do not have appropriate

office space so if parents have been in to see this winston they know that they're practically sitting on her lap because it's literally like this and it's just how do we give a little more breathing room for that and that's easy because it's a temporary level at the middle school high school a very similar thing is happening in the shoebox and that's um mr havard's um idea and he's actually doing a lot of the work and the office is there they've got their two counselor offices uh school site therapist you can't get to one without going through the others okay that's that's one supervisor in there so there's there's four people but it's uh in a row you have to walk through each other's offices so he's just putting in a little hall so that

we can separate those that will allow us to transition our technology coordinator out of a closet into an office in the back of the library and he'll be able to do that because especially with supervisor you can now go into this office space and that's important because in the media center you have heard us talk about esports we are gearing up for for that um so that's the type of work in addition to just the cleaning um and then lastly um judith and i met with principals this week about uh an idea that that she had and i think she and dorothy discussed it at facilities i'm not sure how it started but i think it's a good idea and that um we're going to have a campus beautification event that is similar to what

um antioch does so we've identified two dates in august one's reindeer so i think it's august 6th and the 13th we don't have really have any details yet aside from that but we're going to put together a list of projects and invite folks about the community and our parents and families to come in and help us out if you have anything to add to that you know another thought i had um is you know some of the yeah trying to get was together for the elephant tools we'll talk about just beautification on the outside of the building um like a work day which you know and then maybe a picnic i don't know that's you know how that will all work together what time we're talking about but the other thought i had is to

have a place where um people who volunteer with students you know mentoring or uh helping students breathing in legal i wondered if we would want to have a little table where people who do it talk about what they do and so we should possibly get more people volunteering to work with children um you know to to be able to actually talk to somebody who's already doing it explain what they do and sort of what might be a way of maybe do it's all just the other thing was i probably should i know what i do is the pta or pto uh you know reaching out to parents i was thinking that we might want to go to senior center 365 and you know seek volunteers beyond just the parents we will do broad outreach to

the community street fair the plan is to move forward with that right now yeah um uh so and that's something that the pto usually has volunteers for since it's been a couple of years it might be good this is any questions all right so moving into six so instructional marketing calendar on okay so policies and policies this is a second reading for all those policies that you approved last month guess what's coming in july the remaining policies um uh you have an in lieu of approval generally those come in the fall this is just kind of a catch up tonight um 6.4 is college credit plus so it's both our agreement our move with sinclair as well as some revised rates it's pretty standard um but you know we do have students take advantage of

us and i've tried to i've looked into this a little bit i was trying to the rate that's quoted there what is that so we pay for students to earn college credits through college credit plus it's required how long and that some dollars yeah so because it says 41. so um so that's the floor amount um that's uh probably perfect yeah we can teach one of our teachers can be approved to teach that course generally doesn't happen because colleges are bound by board of regents and they're really tight we have quality teachers and qualified teachers but that's hard to do then they come into our campus to teach that creates other problems or they just go there and generally that's what we do so that category one would be if we had a teacher who

was qualified to teach credits by sinclair and they were doing ap history or whatever then in order for the students to receive those credits you would have to pay the because all the other expenses from those credits and so it's important to know that sinclair is using a floor which they um 6.5 is the approval of our negotiated competence with the yellow springs education association and i'm going to say that experience we've all recovered highly collaborative and i think the end result is good and it recognizes that four of our teachers do and i think it's important to say so i'm going to ask for improvement for that um 6.6 is uh last month you approved ela curriculum for grades seven and eight and so the teachers sixth grade teachers here um would like that

would like to use that and remember this is um you know cost curriculum would like to use that to align their students and prepare them to enter their seventh grade so that's pretty clever on that um 6.7 is the approval of a settlement agreement 6.8 and 6.9 are shared services agreements and that's with green and local schools we do this every year they provide our on bus instructor training which is critical so we can get any bus drivers we get and we always welcome more infor training and then we share bus mechanic so which is also helpful in terms of timeline and it just saves us some money um have to include one of those two as treasurer mcgrath mentioned approval of the food service management contract with the nutrition group and then i think

these are the last uh three things here approval of the job description and the salary schedule for school psychologists um we had a job description for school psychologists that was quite old because we then contracted out services so now we're bringing those back in-house and so it's just a revision of that it is really really really difficult to get a school psychologist and we have a great one and we would like to keep her so we were hiring um and then the last thing is when we approve the job description for tech coordinator i failed to include the salary schedule so that is okay yes implement yes magnus yes turner yes here in rios yes motion pass five to zero all right section seven is a personnel consent calendar i don't have a motion to

open this one i think you mentioned that we opened the personnel uh i ask that you approve the personnel schedules as submitted they are all pretty typical for this time of year as we are continuing to hire teachers to replace those who have left us and then what we will also see is at the end of the year when we finish evaluations for those teachers who are entitled to a new contract contract has expired you will see those on here as well for approval the only thing that looks different is student workers and these are the school forest workers who are working and now turning in their client sheets and requests i have a general question just how are we doing with hiring so far we are actually um doing um pretty good okay you

know we we had our um venus coordinator um resign last week and we have on this agenda and you need this coordinator and she also supports jeff business operations and athletics you know that position is so critical and so we were worried about a little bit of a gap but we were able to find that i think all we have left that is listed under um if i'm remembering correctly an instructor assistant and then a nurse and i did have a final review of our nurse candidates no i think one was probably higher than last month okay we missed it yeah oh pe teacher no no that's a loss for us but um she's going to be almost across the street from her home so um that that is a new one okay thank you

any questions all right uh okay yes magnus yes turner yes very rios yes motion pass five to zero all right we're on the section eight so our board communications um and it's uh absolutely true what'd you say it's been great to see everybody face to face again um so uh don hollister um arranged for us to use that room and it's been working out pretty well we're also using the owl we use that for last minute um it's uh it's uh it it's been a great asset so i and i think it's the touches yes so um uh one of the things uh that was on top of our agenda is something that actually um dorothy brought the commercial property survey um uh alex um barry is the person who's kind of he was heading

that up at the moment he's having studied august discussions um they talked about both last meeting at this meeting with denise and he's gotten from her uh one of the last commercial property surveys that the village has done and i'm actually scanning that and reviewing that and kind of going through that um at home and i'll hopefully bring my findings to the next meeting on that so that's a fun project that we actually have been able to contribute to um uh lisa abel's team for grants for business is one of the big ones they've been talking about is the um well this it is a a project actually over in clifton at the moment um and uh don hollister and terry and um uh somehow uh have been meeting regularly to talk about family meeting

in july oh okay very good so they're they're making sure that we have clearpoint communications about um about revenue um so the village talked about they're putting together their budget and kind of getting folks ready um and they expect they expect increases in um both utilities and perhaps well we've got those discussions that are going to be coming out there but the big thing with their they're preparing villagers for is uh utility increases in the rights to the utilities um clifton's going to have their very music and art festivals soon that's what they're going to talk about and at college was actually really excited about the commencement um uh ceremony that happened on friday yeah yeah so i encourage people they're very excited about i'm very excited about that and they think that that's going

to be a really interesting conversation to have um and uh let's see the chamber of commerce like i said is very they have their first they're kind of reconstituting themselves again so they're all around by volunteers at the moment and uh so there had uh their uh betrayal activity where their bands and um for for a day um and they're getting groups and they're getting ready to do again with the hotel the hotel's offering their hospitality folks to put together um street fair and street fair is a big fundraiser for a pto so it's a good thing to kind of like put a pin and make sure that the community is aware of because that's something that's definitely going to be starting everywhere and i think that's about i think those were kind of the

big the big numbers yeah i think you probably think i i forgot to reach out to you earlier but i know that you're in charge of taking the notes for the ycc and i was wondering if you could um submit them so that you can comment to the agenda for all football members um it's um the uh well that's one thing that we can talk about because the uh uh um of course until they're approved and so then you could submit the last ones and then once they're once they're approved they're posted to um to both the website for so that that would be an easy plugin yeah so that um and that's so that's a good place to go for that one suggested also might be nervous because i was at the chamber meeting

to the attempt at the dc meeting and so dino was able to just provide a summary that he took while he was at the meeting right now and he gave it to him so it's the official ysbc minutes so that might both inform folks if that's easier yeah and i'd be happy to be in fact i'll take a look at what and just provide a summary um so i certainly have the agenda in front of me right now so um the uh but it's it's uh it's work we're still the group is still um you know it we're having the group feels like it's really good to have this cross-communication against the big organizations of the village and to um but there's there's also kind of like a reorganization that's happening in a revision is

that what is our the village's capacity and um particularly what the ways that we can bring more jobs to town is the feeling that that's probably the more jobs that there are in town [Music] security and also um drop off uh since the years about safety um and it's it's a problem we should try to solve it and the village has some specific ideas in terms of drop-off um conversation about it and i'm not sure what the next steps are but i'll be checking in with terry as we try to coordinate because what we want to do if we're changing how we're doing it it'll be in place because before school starts so that um school can start helping parents know maybe doing this a little differently we get some volunteers um brian howes said

that the active transportation can improve maybe and i forget who else um that we potentially can get volunteers to help the first couple weeks be out here making sure people are driving their cars and shared information and then just in terms of coordinating our message uh the village had an open conversation about you know safety wise people keep the police uh pretty thoroughly important you know what they're doing um and um obviously been doing uh having as can be a responsibility as our administration and staff for the safety of children um in schools so that's it's going to be great that would all right so the legislature has been really busy and uh not in a way that is really aligning with what we're trying to achieve in yellow springs but the first part is

really the address of governor dewine uh following the prevail dates for shooting and the steps that they are taking um he also reminded ohioans about the safer ohio school tip line which is a free statewide use course to anonymously report school safety concerns and he requested for school district to use their american history plan act as her funds to asset costs the problem is that he's already asked the school district to use those funds many many times before without increasing it with state funds so this is uh where i think that is is giving he's passing the bucket to the district without giving enough funds for the district to follow through here um you should have said so i've submitted my my legislative report a few days before governor dewine signed hb99 it's not a

surprise he said that he was going to sign on in it's allowing pathway for school employees to carry a deadly weapon on school grounds but it is also deferring to school boards to allow it and so right now that means that the school boards across ohio are making the decisions whether or not to allow uh school employees to be carrying weapons on their grounds uh hb 151 is a traveling bill that is moving forward that would threaten girls schools girls sports in schools uh the amendment would allow for anyone to report girls in sports for suspicions of being assigned male at birth and would the language would mandate for this athletes to undergo invasive medical and laboratory procedures including genital inspection this is being this has passed the state house and it's moving on to

the senate um and that could be impacting schools across the state uh hp 616 it's something that this board has already talked against uh and has issued a joint statement against they had a first hearing on may 31st where the two sponsors provided supporting testimony there was i think very little heads up for anybody to show up and speak and everybody else to show up and speak on this topic will there be another it's what i've learned is that for instance for hp 99 is that they announced it on a friday evening of memorial day for the tuesday after there was very little time for anybody to react 150 people came because of advocacy group only one person was in favor of it that was the lead of the buckeye firearm association because its own

organization would benefit from it the 149 people there were against it including school board members teachers lots of parents and so it's there's no way to set an alarm or set an alert to get a heads up on that you have to trust the advocacy group to let you know because they're keeping an eye on it this is why it's so hard to keep track of all the skills that are moving forward and i went to hb99 senator bob hackett was there he was our state senator and he left the room for half of the meeting wasn't even there to listen to the testimonies so feels very discouraging um and then the last one hb 454 would it's another troubling one it would private surgeon position to remind us child sex which by the way

is not happening it's not allowed or it's not it's not common procedure here but most importantly it would put school personnel on the line for withholding information related to the minor's perception of our gender if inconsistent request so writing here a lot of bills on the on the docket that are really threatening the abilities in which school employees and teachers can support students pretty well i have a lot of feelings about this and i'm just gonna i'm gonna say um as a gay woman this um just fires me up saddens me i know i speak for every staff member in this instance we are going to do whatever it takes to support our kids you know what you want to fire us do it this is at some point reasonable people have to start speaking

up and saying this cannot happen and we are not going to have to happen you know maybe maybe these comments are going to invite some people in but this is ridiculous it's not this is political this does not do anything to support children any you know whether it's girls with with athletics whether it's students who struggle with gender identity or gender dysphoria or any other child this does nothing to support children so it's frustrating i'm sure you share this frustration and i think this we know that this train is going through more on the tracks in all of the other states in this country so this is not um and i want to add something that i should have put in there but the state house maps have changed for yellow springs we're no longer

the constituents of brian lampton we are now the constituency of bill dean you know you don't let you know enough about him but look at his track record and you know how he votes um so yes we actually need to speak up he needs to hear about constituents from yellow springs to know that those bills are not doing anything to maintain the safety of students in all capacities they are truly endangering students you're in naven for lgbtq students in our district too so i could be especially responsible what did you say kathy we're a haven for lgbtq students they know they can be different here and feel safe not that it's perfect but and i've seen a big increase with our son who's our daughter now who was 20 through 31 that had graduated during

these times minor legislative update but they did pass the ballot language change yes for levy purposes um where i often put this in there anyway but they are going to and it won't affect november levees but we don't have no number levy um but it wouldn't affect any levy that we would have in may um they have changed some of the requirements for mallet language requiring us to put an estimate on what it would cost for a property value that a hundred thousand dollars um to kind of remember all the the details here there are some complications with providing those estimates because different properties have different tax shelters or you know see aeds and stuff so so there is it's hard to provide those estimates which does make this valid language a little bit challenging

for us um but i don't think it's anything it's an adjustment and any change that the valid language is an adjustment so that passed as well yeah it was 180 184 i think right yeah thank you hp 184. i think so great and terry just quick do you want to review it reiterate just in case anybody's people don't know what the school policy is regarding the in regards to 1899 i mean we have existing policies are you talking about weapons yes yes we currently have a policy that does not allow weapons on school grounds by adults students visitors yeah and that and that policy is important correct all right so we're heading so we're going to talk about facilities and i just want to thank the community members who came to speak but i also

wanted to clarify a few things announced that folks do not speak for me um as superintendent it was my duty to try to listen to folks and take the pack that was best based upon the information i had so for 2021 um it was about what what is what plan is most affordable at that point because of the ofcc money it certainly was a single vote nobody needs to tell me that failed i miss it i know i know what happened in 2018. i also know that with this new war there was a desire to have a facilities committee i spoke both publicly and privately to board members and said i would support that even having been highly invested in a new building i don't i'm not ford new say bui is the we are

concerned about economics then a new building particularly then and i'm going to say right now lots of things have changed from copen and the pandemic and availability of product etc but if i'm if i'm going to look at what's the best route financially in terms of not um throwing good money after bad it was that i am open to whatever the facilities committee comes up with however i think we do have needs that need to be addressed that go beyond just makes this is what i've said um i know at the meeting last week because i was present that um the presentation that jay did that he and i worked on was not to dismantle the facilities committee but was just to say here are the things that we don't get with pure maintenance because

i also said at that meeting i have to answer to parents who say terry what about all of these things we're not getting so i just wanted to know that so i just want to make that clear and one thing that i hope we don't start fighting this fight again about our open enrolled students we are not going to reduce the number of open enrolled students we have we are not near the policy numbers and when we talk about need and space it's not that we need space for classrooms because we have kids that we can't house it's more gosh we want to intervene in reading with these kids we don't have a private space a therapist needs to help a student there's no private space you've all been in those lines when we've had

the tutor in the hallway because we don't have a crime it's that type of thing it's not we're out of space because we're inviting in too many other open enrolled students and kathy i appreciate your comment we do attract folks who are lgbtq because of that and i welcome them again i know there's policy we are under that so i just want to make that clear that that really is not a discussion in the facilities piece that's not why we talk about needing new space renovated space whatever i'm excited for the possibilities that might come out of a facilities committee this facility is here but i do think that we should see what the numbers are because we can't make decisions until we have the whole piece what's the maintenance piece what's the renovation piece

and probably there might have to be some new order and i'm going to bring up the example of a secure investing unless we renovate and build something new i mean i'm not sure how we're going to get that so um i just want to clarify some things because a lot of the things that were said weren't exactly what happened at the meeting and so i'm anxious for that video to get on the website so that everybody members of the committee and the community coming to share their comments that's it good job okay well um i mean i've got a report i actually feel a little bit um regarding um the mpa i i talked to tj about having mike um he's been sitting through this whole meeting because i wasn't quite sure when because we

had talked about moving it earlier and then anyway so mike's been sitting here because i felt like we really needed some expertise i did get extremely concerned when i read the letter um but not that the four points can't be added into that's fine into the work uh but the mpa isn't going to do everything that was never the idea that this only maintenance and the way dorothy understood what they said was very different than you know myself um i don't like slaughter i mean what we heard was a very different thing so i got very concerned about it sounds like dorothy doesn't want to go forward with the process that's what i heard when i read this letter i thought there was a chance we weren't going to go forward with the process now

it's the school board's responsibility ultimately and authority to decide whether to hire an mpa but when one of our liaisons was sounding like she was really shaky and whether we should go forward with an mba we can't do this we can't do a permanent improvement plan to be able to decide this fee's ability if we don't have an mba i believe very strongly i i called mike because i was like can an mpa do these four things and so going to let him maybe speak first does that make sense but he and what he said to me and i thought it was always part of our plan it's part of our charge is that he would play a role in you know thinking about um deeper renovation and new construction that and that he would

be working with the mpa i thought you know if he could explain a little bit how he sees it but in terms of that list you know it's one we want to prioritize i mean we're going to look at the numbers and all that we know there's going to be some new new uh construction we always do that and nobody thought it was just going to be maintenance but yeah thank you uh yes thank you very much um my name is mike richly for the uh board member i don't know nice to meet you and i see you again tj nice to see you um yes so uh i just wanted to make sure that the facilities committee was considering things beyond maintenance so at the last um committee meeting i kind of volunteered a

list of there's a short list of things that i would recommend that gets the committee consider in addition to just fixing pipes and power and leaky roofs and those were the issues around educational adequacy you can reload the list i think i think my list got expanded and some of the things i may not necessarily agree with but in general the items that are addressing the design related issues around security terry brought up a good one how do you handle a secure vest fuel it's not really a maintenance item but is it a is an addition is it a renovation um if there's a consideration of replacing the modular for example here at mill's lawn that modular were demolished where would that classroom go i would think that would be potentially an addition how do

you consider things like small group spaces student interaction spaces how do you find those creatively within existing space or might you need to consider maybe a modest addition to address that there's lots of layers of things like that that i was just going to recommend the committee also consider and i think that was the one i get for items toward the under list and that was kind of the big one which was can we in this process look at educational enhancement pieces beyond um just maintenance uh there are three other items on your list that i felt would be within the realm of a maintenance plan advisor i think they were about projecting energy costs absolutely and i can't recall the other two but i think the disruption i can help with that um the

issue is uh swing space how deep are the renovations if the renovations are really deep how long will they take and where will the kids be housed is a key question and then the last one was how much more lifetime can we get other facilities if we go down from the mattress so yeah i guess my my opinion is i'm confident that um the maintenance plan advisor can address two of them and that i would be willing to support the other two the two around the educational enhancements and the swing space i guess i just wanted to add that after you know i've held back with expressing an opinion about new versus renovation maintenance but i have a deep concern because i feel like leadership of the schools um have been expressing basically campaigning for

a new building almost and i've been holding back but i will say tonight i was very optimistic because i'm not going to hold back on that after talking to the maintenance plan advisors about the possibility that this direction could work we don't have all the information yet but i want to say i'm optimistic the i don't want to go on too long here and maybe that's where i want to stop i mean i yeah they work with a lot of different schools schools which have great academic uh reputations and so i don't think you know trying to i don't think you know thinking that you know having a renovated school with some new construction means it's we have to uh sacrifice anything in terms of the you know educational uh quality for our students and

so i asked i you know very much think it's only fair that everybody's stopped you know trying to get to the conclusion before we're even done that's the way it feels to me several people are already kind of trying to make that case that this is not going to work and i think that's not fair it's not fair to all the work that we've done i've done the door they've done the committee members have done i feel like this is an attack on me no no no no i just as a school leader i have not been campaigning for you no i'm just i'm saying i haven't expressed an opinion uh but i i've been hearing things they sound like company to me and i really wasn't thinking of just just you anyway i i

didn't i thought jay's uh presentation sounded like a campaign to me some of the comments police had said last meeting and you know i don't want to get into an argument about what it was or not it sounded that way to me and then when dorothy was saying maybe we should move forward with an mpa which is what i heard when i read her thing and what i heard at the last facility committee meeting that's what it sounded to me like we're going to stop this process because we're just we're kind of wasting the money and um so that's all i mean that's what i heard and i'm not it's i don't mean it as an attack that's just what i've heard and i i think let's try to be really careful about what they

we say and let's be open to what this what we've learned and i think the community has made very clear they're going to want that in order to go forward with any kind of levy i think that's that's the trust piece they want they want they want that information they're not they're for the schools the commitment to education this community is strong yeah i i don't have to say anything more but i know yeah i think that um if i have to summarize where i came from is that i realized during the interview process with the mta that really the focus was solely it was my perspective on bringing back the buildings to their prime and that's when i realized that there was a huge gap a huge gap between that which was bringing back

the buildings airplanes and actually our needs that includes we have big floor plans issue and if i have to go over for them i think that terry covered really well the knitting space what kind of space we need that is missing a piece of security something that that i will add to her list is accessibility and those buildings and we're in the new part here we're in the 2002 car so we don't get to see how it is in the 1952 part but um bringing back the buildings to their prime would not address that and i thought it was a worrisome concerning gap in our process and i think this is where i wanted to be able to course correct this because we didn't really get to have a conversation uh the facilities really there

was a time where we're going to make a decision as a board is that if we want to move on with an mpa we need to make sure that we cover those other pieces what i hear from you mike is that to cover those of our pieces we normally need we need to hire architectural services so if the board is voting in favor of an entity tonight we also that come with the understanding that we have to put even more money on the table to cover what nike doesn't cover this is what i'm worried about the financial aspect of it because it's significant and if we have a bad amount of money to invest right now into an mpa i want us to keep in mind that we should also have some of that money

aside for immediate security so this is where i want to make sure that we have a discussion about whether or not we are on track with what we need yeah and i know you've been waiting for me over there um yeah my understanding was it was a feasibility study of looking at improvements over time and now there's this deep renovation and additions versus new and my understanding was the mpa was looking at that renovations over time piece now i i feel comfortable with the information that i have and the information that's available for free that i don't believe a renovation plan over time is feasible now if that's not the way that the committee feels then that i understand that um but that is that is the place that i am at so i am

interested in a deep renovation um and additions um what that looks like and if an mpa can provide that that piece then i would support an mpa but an mpa that is just going to look at renovations over time i i have an understanding of you know a baseline of what that would cost and i also don't think it's a good idea i i just think that a deep renovation or a new facility and i would like everyone to come to the table with an open mind i came to the table with an open mind for the all three um renovations over time a deep renovation and additions and um i was not here in 2018 i wasn't here in 2021 and i know what happened but i am still keeping an open mind to

all possibilities and i would like to see them all on it and my understanding was an mpa was only looking at that permanent improvement piece if an mpa is going to look at that deep renovation and addition piece then i would support it but if they are not going to look at that deep renovation piece then yes i i would say that we can serve our budget to get somebody that can provide those services so it's not a stop to the facility committee that i was suggesting it was just a hesitation to spend our money on on something that i was not sure i am not sure is feasible i would say that my understanding of how the industry provides these services is that they like an architecture firm i know of some architecture firms

like columbus that have basically carved out this mpa rule as separate from um as separate from the type of role that you use for example so it's it's what we're looking at is we're looking at two different services as that if you're is that you have your long-term maintenance your your maintenance of your square footage right and then you have your other major capital um projects and i think my understanding is is that these entities would work together where it makes sense and with the maintenance folks would have the more long-term vision of you know keeping your pipes and roof and you know and other eurasia system you know doing the proactive maintenance that will um that will that will give you the will will help you maximize basically your life cycle of your of

your facility you know i'm going to make a little correction a maintenance plan advisor doesn't do that work they put the plan together right and then the additional things that they do is they can they can continue to be a resource for the school district for example you're having a a major some kind of major work done uh relatively know an hvac or a room they can uh they can play the role if you need that to make sure the work gets it's done well they can play a you know role kind of representing the schools making sure the work is done you know right and complete and it's all working well before you pay the bill they can play that kind of role they can also play a support role to your own maintenance

staff in terms of making sure you're getting new systems as a building that can help to make sure that the maintenance staff is trained you know they don't necessarily do it make sure they do it they get it so they can play a support service to your maintenance staff in looking at the buildings and talking to maintenance staff just to say that things happened over the years i'm going to say the last 20 years well before terry was here well for any of us from the school board things were done things were paid for and then they did not work you heard this story on major expenses and so we just don't want to keep doing that that's that i was very very strong feeling about that the other thing so i think what we

need to do tonight is basically say to my vote for the mpa that we agreed to try to negotiate with a price that's reasonable so we could try to keep all the services maybe within somewhere around 50 000 um to complete this i think that's the decision we need to make tonight um and say yes go forward you know we spent a lot of money in the last two lobbies and it did not go you know we did not succeed i think i think you know we don't want to spend a huge amount but we don't want to skimp and not have the answers to me that would be very wise the other thing i want to say is i'm looking at the facilities i want to say we have a huge debt of gratitude

to our maintenance supervisor fred carter he has managed to keep our facilities functioning in the fall when i went through the building it was clean bright i mean the floors were shining he's overseeing all the custodial staff he's got a huge responsibility and he is doing it well without enough resource you can see the maintenance that that has been neglected just as for lack of money i'm not there's no blame to put here it's just it's just the fact and he is how he has helped hold his facility our both of our buildings together he's done well and so i just want to really thank him for that um so you know any notice of things that are worn have not been cared for it's not about staff it's not about our administration we just

i think this you know facilities uh committee wants to make that clear um i just wanted to say a couple things i i just first want to say that this one of the i think common ground points that um we had judith um when we met you know before we were even on the board was about that this is a democratic space with a deliberative process and i take offense to being called campaigning when i am expressing safety concerns for the children of the district in such as in a previous meeting i talked about the storm shelter space in the basement of the tower to me it is an unsafe space that's unacceptable and so for me to bring forward concerns that are not just personal where i'm expressing the sentiment of many parents that

i have spoken to that i continue to talk to and that are a part of our community when i express those concerns to me that is a part of the deliberative process of how we're going to come to some good conclusions about what we prioritize and what we don't and i take offense to people saying things like these are pie in the sky wishes when we are talking about the safety of our children so if i just need to say that because um my name was me to be campaigning to express my concerns and then i i just want to go um back to this list that um dorothy mentioned these four points and i want to just talk for a moment about that last point about duration we must if we are going to

pay this amount of money i would hope and it sounds like what we're hearing is that there would be simultaneously working with the architect and the mpa to come up with a plan at that same time we're not talking about two separate long processes that that would be working simultaneously but we must have an answer not only to the costs but what are we looking at in terms of duration and lifespan how much more time are we buying through renovation are we talking 10 years that we're going to be coming back to the community because there will be other renovations needed and i understand that there will be more in this plan more money set aside for renovations ongoing but i also um i'm surprised that um i i would like to say what dorothy

in her plan stated that all three members of these mpa companies mentioned that at a certain point the buildings will have reached the end of their lifespan and i think we have to know we have to have a conversation are we talking 20 years for these systems are we talking 30 years what do we mean with lifespans and we also have to acknowledge that there are spaces that men have reached their lifespan in our building um so i it sounds like that that's possible to um have that piece of the conversation in here because i would hate to actually i think it would be doing what other school boards have done is make a decision about putting a lot of money forward into something that would only last for a certain period of time and

i'm very curious about the conversation of how much time are we looking at with really functionality within these renovations for these buildings i i do feel the need to be to say that what dorothy um said that the mpa says regarding uh well we're going to i mean i know the new building was had a 40 40 year life cycle they said i'm not affording your life my own experience it and and i did not hear the mpa saying you know you might as well go with the building because you know we're not going to do for you we want to do other schools or something like that i just that was not what i heard at all but my experience just in life is that buildings that are maintained in lasting definitely maintained and

updated over time and many people in the village and maybe by my homes you can talk about other kind of spaces if they are maintained and updated over time to meet the current needs um i mean i work in a very older hospital building it's been maintained it's been updated we're providing high-tech you know modern medicine in this older building so i uh so i think it's worth asking the question but i'm assuming if we're maintaining and updating over time our build and safety last but definitely which is also actually true modular units if you take care of them i don't know if you saw my you would ask about the life cycle so i've done a little research they're saying to 50 years to take good care of them one of the articles said

indefinitely and there's no difference between that in a what they call stick build which i guess doesn't necessarily mean just sticks but that means concrete block etc so um i just want us to have good information on that i'm not saying what we should do with those modular units i'm just saying let's make sure we have um and we do know there was some problems with how they were installed also which means there's moisture issues there's there's issues um and since we got my car i got a question i knew i didn't consistency here i hear a lot about how a new building is only going to last 40 years well that's what the guy said okay so but then so new buildings will in less than 40 years we have a building that was

built in 1952 why is renovating this one that'll make it last indefinitely whereas the new building is only going to last 40 years i guess i don't understand that so so i went the new building last indefinitely yeah i mean in my view the new buildings that we designed and built are 80 to 100 new buildings so i i wouldn't use a 40-year word um yeah we're talking about concrete structures and so no i wouldn't i personally wouldn't use it i wouldn't put a time on that now yeah 40 years is the i would say that my point is we're talking about we've got a building that said like 70 right and we're saying let's renovate that's what lasts forever and you just keep going but a brand new building we're saying well that's only

the last 40. that doesn't now when you put it when you do a new building that mechanical system isn't going to last for 80 years so each system has a life cycle within it so you might get 25 to 30 out of a mechanical system so it's going to vary depending on on the parts and pieces in in my experience in the industry is there's a bunch of buildings built post world war ii in the 1950s that are at the point where they either need a major upgrade an overhaul or a replacement and so districts are very commonly in this question as do we do we paid a replacement overhaul and i think the whole point of this exercise in my view is to explore the ladder is what would an overhaul a maintenance plan

enhancements look like as an option this requires the this requires the specific expertise and that's what the mpa is about is that specific research i mean we've done the research we've talked with people and they say this this is the expertise that is necessary is that people are investing in because and there's people who are investing in this who've built new right so uh springboro was an example of that is that they've built new in the last 20 years and they upped their current improvement levy so that they could maintain a building that's 20 years old yeah so i want to respond to some of the comments that he made um he said that those are two different kind of services and actually we had some mpa firms that came with their own architects so

really we can have a conversation with them about a plan or service that is more comprehensive than what i've heard this is why i'm worried is that if we only look at renovations and bringing good buildings back to their clients who are missing a big part of what this is why i want to have a conversation here is that it's just not an mpa for having that conversation it's an apa that has to look at the accessibility the security but needing more space well that was that was not included in that in the interviews which you were not there and i would just speak and i would love to see this um especially since it seems sort of you know keep touching us i would love to see this and i'm going to watch business

we have just gone through the last 10 years where we haven't had an increase to our permit and we've not slipped from doing corrective maintenance into reacting and this is what we're trying to address is that with the mpa is that we're trying to get out of this reaction mode and into a breath email today from one of the firms apologizing because they did make the conference so does that mean it was all free i don't know but i think it's not productive for us to go down this road we have to model for our students and our teachers and our community what we really want to be what's our aspiration how can we give it better space for our children is it renovations is it renovation and addition is it new i don't know

i just know i need it and the more we do this the further away we get from a productive solution you know i i think i was the one that put this because i put together the agenda unfortunately i put this at the end because it felt like a natural place because of where the facility's committed discussion is the reason there's a vote on there is because the board has to take votes and i can't move forward to talk to any mpa unless i hear from you what are the parameters is it is it the high end is it the low end so i think maybe you know i don't it's not my meeting so i say this respectfully um it's late how do we come to some um discussion about where we're going to

go from here because we have important things to do i'd like to make a motion that the school board uh construct the superintendent to pursue negotiations with the firm that the um facilities committee or the the uh folks who interviewed them uh agreed they would that they thought was the best um and to negotiate the price with them and that we also asked all right so that's my motion i guess i supposed to stick to that and then that we also asked mike to you know get involved in the work that's part of the work could you before we vote on that could you speak to judith as the chair of the facilities committee can you speak to the list that mike has put forward i'd like to know can i interject on that sure

you're right this is the beginning of your list i have added the items to it that what this was doing for the discussion so i hope that they were not flying to you because i felt like they were just the auditions that have taken notes during the minutes too okay i just wanted to get this yeah i think it's very premature that was going to be part of the facility committee work was to be looking at you know prioritization that's part of the targeting committee i haven't thought about that list very carefully at all quite honestly i haven't don't have enough information i don't feel is that there's there's been a request for composers and we have people who have put forward um proposals and with their statement import right and we also have um

we also have additional expertise right that's already on conflict and i'm wondering if we're just rearranging their chairs i think what we have is you know on the table i think what we have is expertise that we need to be able to put a permanent improvement levy in front of the public and this is something that we need to get a decision on and we need to have we need to get through this by november right so i i i hear that there's some resistance but i also feel like we owe it to ourselves as a board to get the information that we need so i want to an expectation management thing because i think things are getting conflicted and i just want to i think we've had this issue in the past so the

goal of the facilities committee is to examine what an mba would do um and maybe now it's kind of expanding maybe there's some deep renovations piece which is fine but it is i want to make certain that we're not saying that that's the only plan that's going forward for a potential levy or is it to find a plan that we then can bring back to the board and debate and whether it's is this the right one or is there a modification that needs to be made is that your yeah you know that's not what you just said my interpretation of what you just said you know what comes out of this facilities committee and what came out the last facilities committee what came out of the process from 2021 we will put them all up

on the board together okay like all right and maybe it's a hybrid of several of them all i'm saying is that this expertise will give us the the information that we need the information that we need to make a decision about what we're going to put in front of the public and i that's that's information and that's information we have two forces one that can represent deep renovation and one that can represent proactive maintenance and that's going to give us the peace that we that those are going to give us the piece of puzzle to of what we need to be able to figure out and the permanent improvement is one piece of that now yeah we focus on maintenance because that's you know that's not the only thing that you're going to do with

somebody's pay for and they think they help for play for major capital projects that's what they helped pay for and there's one piece of what they paid for in springboro that's what they paid for with the sports facilities renovated recent renovation but you know there's you know we have we we still we haven't you know if we're acting like don't act like this is a decision boundary though this is the point of no return that we can't come back from this is this is no i i don't think you that i are saying or the mpa is saying or that mike michael is saying is that this is not a decision between only doing renovation and maintenance and never buying anything again that's not what we're talking about this is talk we're talking about a

phase improvement plan and phase just means this is not something that we're doing all at once it's something that we're doing in like you almost win me over then you pull me back and here's here's i guess so let me just throw out an example so what happens if you come out of this and say you go through the npa and you go through maybe some deep renovation and the price tag comes out to be 50 million and you're like oh my goodness it only costs 30 billion is and remember is that the phased approach is what we've done for the vast majority of the school's history right okay and so so as we move the conversation about this as we move at and as we're talking about negotiation i want to make sure that

not only we talk about costs but we talk about the scope of work because based on what i understood last week the scope of work was slowly unregulation this is our object i want to make sure that we include in there the full needs of the schools this is why this is this okay that's what mike will do but i i want to specify that was that in the rfp is that explicit within the contract it's it's the part that might but may i admire you something on that actually i'm not sure that this is what we committed to yet uh and i would want because i want to make sure that this is not an additional cost that if we approve an mpa or negotiation with an mpa later that means that we need

to we need to talk about the architectural services and uh and based on our contract with your micromanagement this was not quite including those uh was designs yet and i know that some of those nps are their own architect on their payroll so this is one going back and say if we do negotiations then we have to negotiate make sure that we have a full scope of work and i was going to say that the the mpa that had the majority support from the interview committee did not forget an architect did they move forward with the negotiations as opposed to we operate as a certain amount so that that is i guess what i'm asking because i can't do negotiations i mean we have three proposals at vastly different price points so i i just

need some direction so i don't know if you want it as a motion but what the committee majority said is that they bought the one the uh one mpa um we were most impressed with and that we wanted to negotiate the price to we were thinking 30 000. and i asked if that was one that came in the top from what i understand how these things are done there's a there's a very good life over that they will work out why don't you do that with us and so please remember in the rfp it's it's stipulated that whatever mpa we land on they come to me i think the number of times the stipulation made the profit facilities committee and with the board so you would have the ability to look at their assessment and

and have these discussions and that is actually stipulated so do you think that this is sorry but do you think that this is the state the stage of a negotiation where we need to give them the full scope of the work because i want to make sure that all these are included yeah yeah i think we'll have to review the scope of the work and the price point during the negotiations to make sure that we're getting everything i mean this is just for negotiations i can put this out there they can but if they can provide the the full scope of work that we need and can come to our price point then is that dorothy has outlined in her the second page obviously yes before finally the details on the second page yeah i

always totally expect an mba i'm sorry um to be able to say here's the life cycle of your abilities using this plan and that will give us that would give us a timeline right for can i point something out and we can continue conversation when i heard uh michael talking about a major upgrade major upgrade or overhaul and i don't know if it's compatible but regardless like i want to make sure that we are expanding the scope so that we have an end product that we can compare to the last lady that we can because the point is to know what will be affordable and what would meet our needs and just going to the npa as we started right now we'll need only a small part of work and that's also why the operating

costs projections are so important because there is a sustainability question and one of my concerns is the also the impact and the cost on the environment of using old systems and old buildings and what does it mean to maintain those versus so you can build new at our college we've been able to have knee certified new buildings that are at the top of the line in terms of environmental sustainability and so i do think we really do want to have that full comparison and the only other thing i wanted to add was um are the mbas aware i believe mike has been for the district for a while is aware of all the previous assessment reports that have been done well i have a question about um when we say the full scope is that

the full scope that was not confused outlined in the rfp or is that the full scope to say this plus these deep renovations that mike has um identified um so so so what i'm thinking is and i'm keeping mine yeah so what i'm thinking is i'm not sure the npa was prepared to do that because that wasn't in the original scope and so then that might then require services of an architect so i just want to make sure as i talk to the mpa i know what i'm i know what i'm asking right well i think we're i think we should be asking them to to be working with our architect around that list and that you know with my people again to do with the architectural the planning piece so then we're doing more

than pretty young adults yeah i mean they're i'm talking about pushing them to do their part and then and it shouldn't change we are required to go out perfect if we don't then we don't have to they doing an rfp for the mba was the right thing because it makes the process and i would would you like to speak mike about what you would do in terms of would you be coming back to the committee or the board or if we were to move forward with also accepting your offer that two of these items were things that would be within two ways you can handle it one is you can negotiate with the mpa and ask them to add these architectural services and they could hire me to do that that's step number one that

would be within the current contract and it'd be within the current system the second is you could ask for me to provide a proposal to do that by myself so not going through the mpa where you might have a little markup but just direct and i can assure you it'll be much much less than 50 thousand dollars i think judith the original number of 50 all in for mpa plus all planning services would be more than sufficient and so i'd just say again it would be the district's choice of hiring an architect directly and it's some much less than 50 or to just put those services into the mpa and have the mpa do the past third either one well and i think that you know when you put out something i understand yeah that

helps yeah blindly into this um so do i do i approach it as number one or do i approach terms of what mike has just outlined so i approached the mpa as we want you to include these services and go into our architect or do we want you to do the regular that was in the rfp and then the board exercises the option to add services architecture so much question and adjust the questions um i want to make sure that if you do number two which sounds like it would be a better use of our dollars then both your work and their work would be compatible chained to one time i i know the firms well i trust them strategically they came to the table without a planning architect i think in anticipation that this

situation might unfold so they have a very capable um what they call a like a forensic envelope yeah architectural consultant structural engineering so uh no no problems working with um your first choice and creating a upgrading to services that would provide one big picture is it necessary so this is what we are holding on right this is a combination of that okay okay yes magnus yes turner yes fiery rios yes five to zero all right so another knife i know is our german do i have a motion to adjourn yes okay yes yes magnus yes turner yes how could it be 10 o'clock oh
