uh crews bay public school board meeting um to order at 6 00 p.m on february 15th and let's do roll call um arnie i am here we've got um david is not here kim i'm here kevin is here correct kevin adrian right here diane i am here and dustin i saw that you were there roger that okay you're not on my front screen all right and so i would entertain a motion for um to approve the agenda i make a motion to appear the uh agenda thank you dusty oh second there thank you arnie any discussion all right so arnie oh yeah your name hi um david kim i and kevin hi adrian aye diane i and dustin aye all right motion passes um i would entertain a motion to approve our consent agenda i
move we approve the consent agenda thank you i'll second that thank you diane any discussion on the consent agenda all right arnie hi hi as well kevin hi adrian i diane i and dustin aye all right motion carries and now we're up to building and staff presentations we've our highlighted school east side coming in quick tonight with the building presentation thanks i am going to attempt to share um i've been really unsuccessful in staff meetings at this so i'm really hoping that tonight's my night i have a quick slide show to share with you guys um if you have listened to me over the last few years i've talked a lot about looking at data to drive instructions specifically in reading and i'm hopeful that this will give you a nice little quick snapshot to
show that the work that we've been doing here at east side is is paying off and we're we're seeing more kids in the green than we ever have before so um let me just try this out can you see it oh i see thumbs up from kim that's very exciting okay here we go so this is um put together um by emilia ed our k2 literacy coach and myself and um those of you who have met amelia know that she's very passionate and um she did a lot of screeching and squealing when looking at our data here at eastside this year which was fun to see there were even some tears shed i believe because she's poured a lot of work into this um kind of instructional improvement initiative that we've had here at the
k2 level but certainly at east side and um and without her i don't think the work would have gone as smoothly as it has and so um hats off to her and of course nicole alt who is our new intervention teacher here at esa um we have really shifted our train of thought to the science of reading this is something that when you look at the science of reading you see all the time it's called scarborough's rope and we focus our attention at the k2 level at these orange skills in word recognition and so we pour a whole bunch of effort into teaching the skills of phonological awareness decoding and site recognition so that we can teach these students to automatically know what sounds or what sounds letters make and put those sounds together to
make words so that they can be successful with these other reading skills later in their educational careers and if you this little green over here out to the right um is our second grade current phonological awareness data and i have to say that in my history with goose space schools i don't think we've ever been this fun phenom phonologically aware at this point in second grade that's a whole lot of green that we're not used to seeing um when we look at data and um for those of you who are familiar with kind of easy cbm we just followed the same coloring as that so green means they're off and running and yellow means that there's a little bit of risk in the red means like hey let's really hone in on that and so
forming intervention groups for phonological awareness for our second graders was really easy to do because there's so few that need continued support um just so for east side second graders their skills are 91 proficient and 95 of our students are 80 percent proficient or above and just some research on phonological awareness which you've heard from us before eastside at least 80 of all poor readers are estimated to demonstrate a weakness in phonological awareness and or phonological memory and readers with phonological processing weaknesses also tend to be the poorest spellers and later the poorest readers so we like to see that wall of green it was pretty exciting um some comparison data for you all to just take a quick look at um for first grade we had to compare it to march just because when
we were giving the assessment so i know these aren't these are now our second or the 2021 students are now our second graders but this work truly began um for our second graders when they started kindergarten and then stopped kindergarten and then we um tried to really pour it on thick last year and their half days and focus our instruction on reading and so last year at this time our first graders this is end of year data um were proficient with onset fluency and right now in january so this was in march of 2021 and january are now first graders so our kindergartners from last year are already at 90 and that's just on an uphill track and so you can look through and compare all of these but at the end to 22 of
our first graders last year um had reached this total end-of-year data and we're already at 51 right now in january so pretty exciting stuff and then um word study it's a comparison of january to january still hanging on about the same but as you can see we're getting more percentages at these higher levels at the second grade word study level i won't bore you with what all these word study levels mean um unless you have questions about them but it's a good way for us to track where students are and how that relates to their um grade level proficiency and then first grade word study january to january uh where we're looking good in those comparisons as well and then kindergarten this is stuff this looks familiar to most of you board members who've been
at it for a while are easy cbm you don't generally look at kindergarten you often look at third grade and i would probably say it doesn't often look like this you you see more of that look to the red and yellow and so that's generally true at this time in kindergarten as well um but it doesn't look like that this year and i think that that's kudos to what our teachers are doing and where they're really focusing their instruction and our students are are kind of taking off and learning skills our kindergarten teachers who have been in the game for a long time are just thrilled um with the progress that they're seeing in their students abilities to put sounds together and really begin to read and and where we're there at kindergarten so good
to see and then we really have you know our mtss push over here that we continue to build and improve we have changed our sst system to match an mtss framework and we're really intervening early and often and are able to look at data cycles to catch those students who would benefit from interventions and to keep those students on into sst processes who could use a little more support and we just have the best data that we've seen in a long time to support those decisions and we're working really well with the consultation staff to help us make those decisions questions i just i don't have a question but i have a comment this is this is fantastic the statement is i could see the tears being shed just from all the work and then
and then you pop it up there and it's green and not what we're used to and that's very exciting great great thanksgiving yep and compounding that on top of uh you know there was a lot of online time uh over the last couple years uh uh just makes it all that more impressive to me thanks we're impressed too and it's it's it's fun to kind of see this growth over time um and yeah it's kind of like certainly there's learning loss or and then learning recovery that has to be done and we're we're working on that um but it's it's fun to see the progress that we've made from you know really just starting a book study um with people who wanted to learn more about being more effective reading teachers i wish i could
go back into the classroom and teach reading again because turns out i don't think i was very good at it but you know based on what i know now i think i could have done a lot better job but that's certainly how our veteran teachers are feeling too uh is that they've they've learned so much about reading instruction and um i we we all know that the education pendulum you know swings from one side to the other and and and we're back to you know caring about phonics um and it's doing a world of difference for our students and um so i think i hope we can carry on and it's also been a huge part into our ela adoption we have a really good team of people who are on the selection committee for
that brian says he's going to substitute when he retires so i highly recommend you send some of that material his direction just so he can brush up those skills and apply them directly to student learning i already have a retirement basket full of all the materials and i believe he committed to only substituting in kindergarten classrooms i also want to say it it makes it look like the uh decision to come back those small classes part-time really paid off at the end of last year because that was the big emphasis and that seems to have paid off to look at our second grade data right now absolutely i mean it can't be disputed um in terms of of what they were able to to show us this year i have two second graders myself and
one of whom i was certain when kindergarten you know stopped for him and um his mom turned out not to be a very good kindergarten teacher um that reading was going to be a real struggle for him and he's cruising right along um because of the skills that you know his his kindergarten teacher continued to attempt to teach over this format and um his first grade teacher every single day and not letting a kid like him who would just kind of you know lay back and allow himself to slip through the cracks like he was he wasn't allowed because he had a class of 12. that's it all right brilliant do we have any other questions i just want to say great job and um everything looks fantastic for any kiddo that is maybe um
not meeting the metric or not there you mentioned that there was some intervention what does that look like so our intervention focus has shifted a whole bunch at east side so we've we've taken to using our support staff as reading instructors so whether they're in the resource room or in the you know what was title one reading um or our kindergarten eas they've all joined in this um implementation and and the learning of it and so they became that was the other benefit of last year we had an hour and a half in between classes to really utilize that time to teach and um and so they are you know just as um informed instructors in guided reading specifically um and more informed i would say in the interventions that we use for dyslexia kids
because they're the ones who are teaching it um but they we flooded our classrooms and so every you know like our first floor for example has its own cohort and and during this block of time um our support staff will go into classrooms and the teacher will take a reading a guided reading group and an ea will take a guided reading group sometimes out into the hall we have tables throughout our beautiful school that have nice views to go along with them and they do their guided reading groups that are 20 minutes long and um the the format is repetitive and predictable for kids but they get to you know experience new literature every week and and then they show them back into their classrooms and move on and then the afternoon um that's when
our interventions take place and so the students who are in the red during our data cycles will be um assigned to different dyslexia kits generally um depending on their needs second graders um are certainly in the dyslexia kit twos at this point and those are generally one-on-one or two-on-one interventions um 15-minute snippets of of them really placing sounds together and learning how to learning phonics in really small settings thank you all right thank you kara all right moving along we have osea business valerie hi so i would like to extend a very deep sincere apology for not acknowledging the board last month i do believe that we got card sent out um i was absent and i forgot to share with the board with my with terry and um so i do apologize for that
and i just wanted to say that we look forward to negotiations tomorrow yay and this will be this will be great so outside of that everything is going really well i really like kara's program that sounds amazing so nice job for all the hard work there so that's mine was short and sweet and i look forward to seeing all of you or some of you tomorrow afternoon thank you very much thank you valerie do we have any questions for valerie i got your card so okay i need i know you were thinking of us i was just like oh i can't i can't believe that i didn't get that done so it's great so but we do appreciate everything your guys's time and energy into supporting the kids and the schools and and us we
we do really appreciate it we know that and definitely the same back again we we appreciate you and all the hard work you're doing in your teams thank you you bet all right moving along cbea becky good evening all um sorry about my video i have poor internet so um you get my canned picture um but nice to see your faces um and i also apologize for not acknowledging school board appreciation month last month was not on my radar um kind of story of my life but um i am so proud of each of you um and just so grateful for the um what you've done for our district what you do for us you know i hear i hear stories from around the state um and we are are so lucky um to have
such a devoted group of people uh working for us and so thank you and i wish i was providing gifts tonight um at least candy i look forward to the day when we're all together in person again on a regular basis um uh it's you know just been a really busy year and the gist of what i hear when asking for reports from staff or licensed our licensed staff is everybody's really tired um it's been hard but um everybody's you know uh hanging in there um we are finally um able to announce that we are going to be sending out our um finalized formatted contract um we had finalized it in september with the school board but the formatting process took quite some time with um with a lot of bargaining going on in between
for the mou and and other committee work and and such so um tomorrow i think is the day um that we'll be able to share it um with our with our admin team and our our licensed staff so uh that will be a relief for some to you know people wondering exactly what the language is in it so i'm sorry for the delay on that our spring is looking busy as always um we're starting to we have reopened our mou to start conversations uh regarding some changes as you know there's gonna be mass mandate changes and we need to discuss um how to look at those uh changes to the mandate and how they affect our our licensed staff and their their safety so um you know back at it um we have a couple
dates on the table which is nice um and [Music] and we look forward to seeing how we we work through that new language that came from the governor um we are also i'm going to start some committee work with uh calendar committees coming up real quick like um to where we have to look at our calendar for next year and also we're going to be heading back to some committee work for uh evaluating our extra duty contract some of you that that bargained with us last year know that that was part of our new contract is that we would look at our extra duty contract and decide if changes need to be made we started doing that earlier this year and found that we weren't really clear on what we were supposed to do so
we really had to go back into our bargaining notes from from both sides and and and look at the history there and decide um what it was what what guidance we needed in order to complete what you know the actual intent was so i think we're ready to start again so that's coming soon um hasn't been done in a long time if ever so it's it's quite a task to to look at all those coaches as well as other extra duties after school programs and such and decide if their placement is justified or if changes need to be made because there's really no explanation as to how it was put together in the beginning so that's kind of what we're looking at um we as you know we got approval uh for to get going
with our diversity equity and inclusion committee meetings and i think we are ready to announce we're we're we've had a hard time uh choosing a date but i think our first or actually not our first we had some last year but our first official meeting of this year is going to be on uh february 25th at two o'clock so an announcement will be going out to all staff um hoping we get lots of interest and we can work together to build diversity equity and inclusion in our district last a big thank you to all that have worked towards um selecting a finalist for our superintendent um looking forward to finding out how that process um goes from here and and meeting those candidates and uh inevitably choosing one and hoping for the best so uh
thank you all and that's it for me unless you have any questions all right i do i do have a question about the diversity equity and inclusion team now are board members invited or encouraged to be a part of that at all or is that strict absolutely yes yes now um i wasn't involved with this committee last year other than the background the in the background um we we did some work together as a team um if you recall it was mary margaret uh stalker jenn marie frangopoulos and rachel lyon and myself um they had a couple meetings last year i was not able to attend um they're going to put it out for all um that are interested again like just starting from scratch even though there was kind of a core group that
attended a couple meetings and did some planning together last year so yes we will definitely make sure and hopefully yes absolutely send me the invite will do when things can get well yes thank you um do we have any other questions or comments for becky alright so we're moving along to honors diploma requirements mr ashton all right thanks for having me i'll be quick so um currently in uh board policy ikf graduation requirements under the honors diploma um first section our first line is the language arts four credits it currently reads includes honors nine honors 10 as well as one credit of ap college bearing credit or other approved advanced coursework including journalism and speech and debate and so after talking with our english department um they felt that some of our freshmen are being
under-identified and possibly not being eligible or not made eligible for the honors diploma because of the requirement to have honors nine and so how we'd like to see it changed um is that it would read that they would um they would need three full credits of either honors nine honors ten college writing college lit or other ap college bearing credit or approved courses being the journalism and speech and debate so that's pretty much it any questions um so why the move from the three from the four to the three credits so no it's still four credits but it would have the requirement is three credits of basically the honors or advanced coursework oh currently yeah so currently it reads honors nine honors ten in one credit of ap so it's basically three years of or
three credits of advanced coursework so you'd still have to do the three years of advanced coursework okay all right thank you for the clarification do we have any other questions or comments no just a statement i i think that's really wise because i agree kids aren't sure of themselves when they come in as freshmen sometimes and obviously they can pick a lower class and then realize no i should have been there and be behind so they can't get there anymore because it was over so before they got started so this makes a lot of sense and it and it really goes along with what we're doing with avid um you know with our avid program it's the encouragement of some of our students who are under identified as depart you know taking advanced coursework and
so a lot of times when we get those freshmen into the average courses it gives them an opportunity to kind of get used to high school and then we start to encourage them to take those advanced coursework so um we really want to make sure that some of those freshmen have the opportunity and not kind of pigeonholed after their freshman year to not be able to do honors that's great all right we're moving along thank you mr ashton we have a special presentation jamie faraday can you hear me uh i don't really have a presentation i prefer to ask for your uh blessing to go ahead with a oprd grant oregon parks department trails grant as you may know uh the millikova marsh trail has been in existence since 1991 uh we have a board-approved
management plan for it that was been uh re-established and re-adopted in 2018 we're working um and so it's on the military marsh website and i encourage you to visit that if you want to look at that management plan it explains the goals of the the plan which are mainly recreation education access and community support excuse me um and it needs to be uh reestablished in its original form it was a federal grant and it's an accessible trail all the way to the salt marsh which is where we access it for education and so that's that's where i am and it's a the grant is a reimbursement grant which means that the school district is liable for the funds that are needed to do the work to re-establish the trail and the things that the management
group would like to do and then they're reimbursed at each of the the stages of the grant and it's about a two-year grant when it's all said and done if we are awarded so that's where you need to be able to understand it we will the stewardship group is is involved in getting this the monies to or the work done and hope that you'll allow us to do so oh so jamie i was going to ask what what exactly is is it that you need from the board i mean you said your blessing but do we need to pass some sort of emotion or or what uh that that i don't know um that i was i met with uh the morning group at the district office with brian and chad and candace at all
and i had i had some information there that i i emailed to them so that they could see what was involved the particulars on the grant the requirements etc and they said well we should probably run it through the board because we would be liable it's a 20 matching grant as well and i'm sure that our group and myself can find that we've done this for the original trail we got at least 20 percent for for matching from the community and it is going to involve re-surfacing the main trail uh improving uh an auxiliary trail that we've opened up for um it's getting a lot of use and we're we're seeing that we need more trails and i'm by the way i'm also looking into discussions with the city to see if there's a nexus
between the city parks and the school district in this regard and i'll be doing some fact-finding on that and getting back to you to see if those if it's a mutually beneficial arrangement so basically i need the school district i don't want to put effort into a a grant cycle that starts in september by the way so i've got plenty of time to get ducks in the row and all the people that i think we need to gather to make this successful so i want to make sure that i'm not going to be doing a lot of effort and then say oh well no we don't want to do this because we don't think we can afford to put out the the initial funds uh and by the way uh the minimum for this grant
is ten thousand up to a hundred and forty thousand all right that was my that was my question is what to what amount of money are we planning so it's up to 140 or whatever thousand um that's possible depending on what you spend and then it's reimbursable up to that amount so um you'd have to raise around what 14 28 000 and so what you're saying for us in particular is that 28 000 is at risk if you didn't raise it because that's the 20 so you're asking the board to say please um give me permission to write the grant and then if it's successful we understand what we are going to need to do correct okay what is the timeline for the grant uh the cycle starts in september of this year and uh
think of the um i should have this on my in front of me i believe it would be awarded early 2023 and we have up to two years to finish that's my recollection but i can i can forward the information on to everybody on the board perfect chad jimmy also clarify for the board about the 20 that we are obligated to some of that can be in-kind funds or influence correct there are different ways in which those that 20 match can be awarded and that's uh with um in-kind labor um donations etc so yeah there's there's ways that the school district by virtue of perhaps going about uh some of its normal efforts could actually help with this this uh grant so what what how he was explaining it to me is it's not a
straight cash match and so if we were on the hook for the 20 and a little bit of change if we took full advantage of the fun that was available if we had say one of the local um labor companies the rock company donate a certain amount of their time or their materials to the effort or the city partnered with us we could count that as part of that the the 20 that we're on the hook for so it wouldn't cost us outright the 20 also if i i made the comment during the the district office meeting that because right now as part of this project too we have ongoing professional development which we've been calling the military march project um there's professional development a few times this year that takes advantage of the the
field trip that we have right here in our backyard to get teachers prepared to where they can go to the marsh and host a full day field trip or half day field trip they have the materials they have the understanding so they can feel confident going right out into the backyard so this is it's all related and meaning that if what it i i really don't suspect that we would be on the hook for the entire in terms of cash or the in-kind donation if you won't all use the entirety of the grant over two years but just as a fail-safe if we did um i would be i would propose that we'd use title five funding which is a rural school grant once the first year wants the second year as part to make
up for whatever funding we're missing because it's for educational purposes to get our teachers out there on into the marshtun science and outdoor school type activities thank you chad can i just say one more thing my point there in saying that is there's not a risk a lot of risk to you to giving jamie the blessing to move move forward and start working on this grant because there is funding to to backfill it there's not going to be a hole somewhere in the budget thank you thanks i see brian's yeah i was just going to echo a little bit of what chad said and and knowing jamie for uh for a long time and seeing the work that he and the stewardship group have done with melakuma marsh this is a very low risk ask
for for our district i think they will more than make up the 20 i have no doubt in my mind even though i won't be officially here to see it i might be out there helping there you go i can use a shovel there you go and and that's all good um the uh cruz watershed association south slough those are connecting with americorps we've had americorps there already we will certainly use them again and all that is match along with our community members such as yourself yourselves i'm going to get everyone here there all right so any other questions or comments so oh ernie go ahead i just i just want to say on this particular thing would brian would you feel comfortable more comfortable if we made a motion to approve um jamie going
out for the bid and um yeah i think it just because there's a potential financial impact to the district even though we see it as very minimal and we probably likely have grant funding already in place that could help with this but it is a financial uh potential financial thing for the district so i would say yeah we would we would need an action item vote from the board on this one thank you arnie that's exactly what i was going to ask so um let's let's do that do i hear can i entertain a motion i i will move that we approve uh going out for this bid with the understanding that we may incur uh an obligation at some time in the future and just a moment a statement in my many years with
this district there are a few people who are as dedicated to making this place the educational institution it could be than jamie faraday so i really appreciate all the things jamie has done in this district for many many years so i move that we give him permission to go forth with the grant and that we understand that it incurs with it if accepted some fiscal responsibility thank you arne do we have a second i'll second that thank you diane any other discussion all right let's do our vote arnie all right kim i vote i as well kevin adrian i diane i if you didn't and dustin hi all right motion carries all right go get that grant so are you making it a more uh a fun place for nutria [Laughter] uh i have a
story about that but i'm not gonna share it right now but maybe with you individually but uh thank you arnie and thank you all board members for your your support now i have to get to work thank you again great thank you all right next up we're gonna oh do we have arnie so kim do we need to make a motion on the um principles exchange change to the policy on um honors student diploma we do but we actually have that yeah at the end of our action items to consider okay perfect yes all right so next up we are going to dismiss to executive session to conduct deliberations to negotiate real property transaction ors 192.660 subsection 2 subsection e and i believe we're going to be put into a waiting room well everyone else
will and we will be still staying this is kevin did i make the jump you did yeah okay thank you i'm looking though in the rooms a lot it's a lot less full than it was before we left i think people use the opportunity to leave yes i do too all right do we have everybody back okay so did we have anybody sign up for public input we did not okay thank you all right you're up mr trundle for our district update i am uh in two weeks we're going to have a data session with the board you're going to hear more uh about reading data uh more about graduation rates uh more about attendance and our online programs so i'm not going to burn a bunch of time there there's a couple things i'd
love to update you on uh being the the the update to our uh in-person learning plan or our ready school safe learner uh in-person instruction plan which was due at the end of february because of the date set for the mask mandate has been moved to the end of march so we will we will continue to work on that and make adjustments to it uh at the march board meeting uh that is where i anticipate we as a group will have a discussion about how we move forward after march 31st as far as masks in our district i will have recommendations obviously and we'll have a good discussion during that time uh as we move forward so that's uh that's the biggest update right now uh it has caused uh as you're well aware it
has caused a few uh few folks to get a little bit irritated about the mass mandate staying in place we're still working with a few people on that issue you know it's uh aaron has worked very well uh anytime i get a email like i did today where it contained a ton of legal references i think the person was flooding me with legal references but i simply forwarded it to aaron she went through it all uh determined that the mass mandate supersedes any of the references that were given so we're still in in that position the masks we we have to continue wearing them until that march 31st time and we get the opportunity to make a decision for our district and so at the march meeting i would anticipate we may see some public
input uh and that will also be the time where we'll have a good in-depth discussion about uh masks uh in the course bay school district any questions uh about that arnie yeah um are you going to have a conversation with oscar osea and oae oea about what they want because it sounded like i was hearing that from the discussion that came in today that they might have their opinions on this yeah very much so and that's part of what we're we're doing in our mou meetings with both groups you know it's it's we talked about it briefly at our last uh cbea meeting last week and uh we'll continue talking about it until that march time and and the only other question i have is do we know um the kids in our school district
that are immune compromised or having cancer treatment other kinds of things which make it even more difficult for them had if they were exposed or got coveted uh we do know our nurses do a very nice job of of tracking any of our students that have medical issues or or potential uh uh immunocompromised uh situations that you know that's something we have to think about that's part of what we're gonna have to think about when we make our decision yeah but that decision you know clearly march will be our time to to really have a dig in and have that conversation uh really haven't heard a lot from from a lot of parents about the masks like i said in the letter i put out last week our kids have done an amazing job uh
over the last almost two years and [Music] they've adapted to wearing masks obviously we would all like to get rid of the darn things you know they're not they're not a lot of fun to wear but we're also going to follow the mandates we've already been down that road and had that discussion and our district is going to we're going to follow and there's you know as i pointed out there's 13 million reasons why why we're going to follow we don't want that money frozen on our district so you know that's that's where we're at right now we're doing a lot on that and we are beginning budget conversations uh with our administrative team uh with our buildings so we are starting to look at staffing for all of our buildings we're looking at student
enrollment and trying to project that number obviously kindergarten is a difficult number to pinpoint the last two years have been pretty pretty uh pretty much the same but i fear that they're also both covered years and so we may see a uh increase with kindergarten kids if we come out the the end of this with with good quality and in person instruction where people feel safe sending their kids to school but we're starting that process like i believe it was uh becky mentioned we are starting meetings for our calendar committee we'll be starting meetings uh for our extra duty contract we we kind of started that got a little bit sideways in that committee it kind of morphed into not really what we initially maybe intended that to be so we went back to the
table uh and met with union leadership and clarified what that committee is really all about and so we'll go back to work on that uh as we move forward we may tap on arnie some of your historical knowledge because some of the questions that committee is trying to answer is how did we end up with the scale that we did where we placed certain programs in certain categories i've done a lot of research around the state and looked at it and it's people are kind of all over the place they're either you know some of them have up to 16 columns ours has four and there's really no rhyme or reason to that i can see when i read their contracts as to why certain programs are in certain columns so we'll be kind of
hashing that all out with that committee so the other thing i would ask is could you find data on uh staff absenteeism during this covid thing so that we have an understanding if we come back and all of a sudden they're exposed more are we going to have more problems with respect to staff being out absolutely yeah certainly can and i would tell you that haphazardly we added all those different coaching staffs it started out with about one for every athletic group and that was it and then all of a sudden people got upset that the band didn't have one and the other all these others kept coming and different organizations kept coming and after they'd been there for a while like forensics and others they've had to figure out a place to put them
and they randomly not randomly but they looked at it and placed them but i don't think there was any real conversation about making sure they were all taken care of but i would be glad anything i can do to help i'd be glad to do okay i may call on you for some historical knowledge there any questions for me i know in two weeks we meet again and we'll be talking data and graduation rates and all those good fun stuff okay all right looks like we're business services and candace with the finance and enrollment reports okay and taking a look at our january uh ending fund balances as of january 31st um uh again we're real close to where we should be this time of year um down just a little bit from the previous
year in our general fund our special revenue fund is again on a reimbursement process so we are up to date on our billing for our grants um we are slowly chipping away at our capital projects our bond fund um as we are about 40 complete on madison um so at this particular point in time it is looking like we will have roughly 4.2 million remaining after madison is complete which is excellent news and will allow us to go back over to melakoma and do some things that we cut short at the beginning so um our debt service fund is exactly where it needs to be uh that is um collecting our taxes for our bond payment when we look at the general fund by object we're not seeing a big difference in our budget balance
because we have so many things encumbered and we're just chipping away at those encumbrances so there's not any real differences in last month versus this month when we look at it by the object and when we go to student enrollment or student enrollment numbers for february 8th was 3052 for the district this is down three from last month um this significant difference here on this report is that we had a jump from marshfield to destinations um last month our destinations number was 58 and uh february 8th we were at 75 and that is real typical for this time of year to see marshfield decrease and destinations increase however marshfield's total of 801 the number next to that 123 for online students that was not updated i did not receive the number in time that number
is actually as of february 8 was 151 students of those 801 were were online other than that there was not any significant changes any questions on these reports these enrollment numbers from february are what we are going to start using um to have our budget discussions here in a couple of weeks so we will be keeping an eye on enrollment from this this point forward all right thank you candace you're welcome okay so moving along to board member highlights who wants to go adrian you've always got something um let's see what i can about uh i did make it to the sunset site council meeting i've been been able to make the last couple of those um it's really uh nice to see the the representatives from all the different grade levels and things we're
dealing with there i did let's see if i can grab it here i got a random package at the district office and i had no idea what it was but i'm not to present it at sunset at some point it's from the sunset robotics team they got their trophy so it's a nice little um for their core values award which is how well the kids work together as a team and let everybody have their have their turn and their say when they're making decisions and so that's really great to see they got the first place for that um so i need to contact um principal mcknight and see if we can't do a big whoop to do for them over at their school and and with the coach so it's that wasn't the team i
was coaching of course um but uh yeah they're um they they did a really good job over there so that's that's good for me this month that's great how exciting um and if you want to go just raise your hand and we'll go all right let's take it i can go um and just uh in kind of i'm excited for both the 3a and 4a tournaments if you guys haven't uh gone or uh been associated with those things it's it's great random glorious you should go and catch a little bit of high school basketball there's a few things better in my opinion um just a uh just a side note i think the wednesday that we've scheduled for uh superintendent walkthroughs is also the same evening as the uh three a dinner that the that
um that local community members and a lot of there's there will be a lot of crossover between people who would want to go to the superintendent walkthroughs um and the uh 3a dinner so that's just kind of a heads up all you brilliant people can i'm sure help problem solve a little bit there um go pirates uh i would say march 2nd is also the night of eighth grade orientation parent night at marshfield high school uh so that march 2nd date i don't know if it's already been set and done it's march 7th or 8th the next week would be great days because there's not a whole lot going on in the district in the evenings those two days but i don't know i i won't say anything but dusty fought for that wednesday i
tried thursday the tournament's on thursday no you would have lost either way yeah sarah and i talked about this in the date we just weren't sure uh what the candidates had been told and if there was already transportation and and things already set i believe sarah has reached out to stephen to check that and if that hasn't been set then it's something we can look into because i know that there's a lot going on that week i i just want to put out there i am traveling the 4th through the 12th um i absolutely would love to be part of the process but i don't have to be i feel confident in in everybody else but if the dates do change i just want to make people aware that i will be traveling all right
any other board member highlights um i attended marshfield site council as well this was actually the first one that i could get to this year and it was a pact house uh it was virtual and um at the library at marshfield so i wasn't sure how many people were there but i heard lots of voices and the invited into attending list was long so the big topic i think that we all know of is the mask mandates and people wanted to know you know when we were going to make a decision and how much notice people would have so um i know that there's people interested in coming to a board meeting and giving their input um so that and then mr ashton had a ton of the things on the agenda including the continuous
improvement plan and updates on facility improvement and a ton of other things but that's it in a nutshell anyone else okay so let's move along to policy committee oh that's me okay so we are on our second readings of our policy and we've got um four of them here so we have one is gb nab slash jhfe and that one was the suspected abuse of child reporting requirements and we discussed these oh my gosh should we discuss them last oh it's february yeah in january i believe we discussed these they went through first read um these were minor changes with just some grammatical um updates and then i believe some gender terms updates then we had ib freedom of expression also the same and igbha alternative education program and j h f e slash g
b n a b and let me see if i have anything else on any of these gender identity um just updating the requirements and alternative eds was made to better align and update ode's rule governing alternative education programs and again with the last one it was just updating to the law and so we need a motion to oh are we are we are we going to be proving these tonight because i don't see them on our action items i came i had a question on the um the first and the last ones let me get my list back up here so the gb nab slash jhfe and the jhfe slash gb nab [Music] should be identical policies and at least in the the packet that i have they're not and i know in the first
one there's still some uh language where it's like insert something here so i think we kind of need to take a look at those again they do need to be identical they're just switched around right there yeah we've got a lot of policies to do that sometimes they appear in three places they've got a couple of slashes in them all right do we see anything else on the ib or i g um the other ones looked oh the other ones looked okay right looks like we'll we can take back the other two finish those up and i could entertain a motion to approve or pass ib and igbha okay um then i'll move that we adopt policies ib freedom of expression and igbha alternative education programs thank you adrian do we have a second second
thank you dusty any other discussion about the policies all right let's do our vote arnie hi i vote i as well and kevin hi thank you adrian hi diane i and dustin hi all right motion carries thank you we also have our other action item for tonight and that's the one dustin had mentioned earlier so honors diploma requirements for the english department i'll move that we accept the changes to the honors diploma requirements from the english department thank you arnie do we have a second i'll second that thank you diane any discussion um just say thanks to the english department for bringing this to our attention and it's another way that we can honor our students who put in a lot of hard work and you know even if it takes them a little bit
to get going once they hit high school it is kind of a rough transition for some so thank you english department yes absolutely good call all right you're hearing no other discussion we can go to a vote arnie hi i wrote i kevin hi adrian hi diane i dustin hi all right motion carries and that concludes our meeting this evening i just i had one more piece just just a comment and because diane mentioned that she was going to be out of town the 4th through the through the 12th if the second march 2nd is a date where you all can be there we could figure out a way to work around what's going on in the district i just it's important that you're all there i think it's an important decision i agree yeah
i think it's important maybe they'd like to go to maybe they'd like to go to the dinner too lou's cooking seafood so uh oh there you go there you go they gotta make a three-pointer yeah all right anything else for the good of the order oh all right meeting adjourned thank you everyone have a great evening thank you you guys are awesome great
