the families and being able to have active participation they get the word out and spread the word to more parents for us and so everything that you know we pass to them they pass along to the families and you know it has been a great help to have them have their support in being able to reach more families and you know they are the link between us and the families but also the link between us and the principal and the teachers so they have done a really great job of making sure that we're informed of things that are happening as they are happening now during this time of pandemic we have another question from Sheehan goodness mr. Miniver City Commission thank you so much for the presentation and just your incredible work I know that
the pack model has been used as just a model in in other in other districts and so thank you so much the question that I had is around the level of participation in middle schools I noticed that in over the last few years it's either zero or or very few is there a reason why the participation is so low in middle schools muchas gracias por su presentatio no way yo se que el Modelo de pâques yeah asado and different a district o si esta muy gracioso esta vez por su presentation Oy mi pregunta es alrededor de la escuela secundaria z-- and yo 2nd annual Santa diores Acedo Cerro Oman minimally participation Anabelle secundaria porque psoriasis the destiny una dia de de por que se Bezos numerous yoki see a responder lo so los números puede

bit tired of you know all the participation in PTA pto events and and school from the previous seven years and you know it's only two years that you're in middle school and that really does fly by so you know teachers have also mentioned to me that this is something that they see in all parents not just the Latino parents you know and then when the students pass on to high school there's so many activities and their students are in a lot of activities and so parents begin to participate again in the activities that their kids are in supporting those activities and so you know we really want to pass along the message to all parents that you know we need to participate more at the second at the middle school level and and so that
they can see an active participation of us as in that area as well thank you yes I said if you were here either one more question when I start I see gracias but a star aqui con nosotros a consumer's enter Sione Langford Marchionne he sue sue sue participation in APAC por que es un trabajo muy importante que estan haciendo me me Bruna is see durante este tiempo and widow petitioners de los padres in el uso de la tecnología por que a veces y hace que la escuela sista bad ando como como computadora see hot spots de perro a veces también se necesita severe como sorry esse tecnologías oh no se C ustedes a no ed okay que podrían pidiendo SLE kidding me man I would like to thank you all for your participation and your

que pasó el tiempo famous la grande hola de esta manera este Boren in Pollock Rondo mess padres en estas participations y una pregunta Dora's den la say opal Dora pero si la demente tuvimos s team insane ins our respecto esto y involucre me toda Padres so I'll go ahead and answer that question parents have asked for help but one of the good thing was you know a couple of our last meetings we had already stopped started talking and having a conversation about doing our meetings of virtually and so luckily some of us have already had training on how to use the technology and we've had trainings and other parents have joined and if they have any questions then they can reach out directly to their family and outreach liaison for support and help in that
area so yes we have had trainings in technology and also in parent involvement Franklin family community engagement I would like to work on the comments for Monica and my role through the first question to ask about if the increase of the participation in meetings then there is an increase on our meetings essentially we have around 40 family holistic experience we start a series of friend Anita Pontos and we have like with having a really good attendance with virtual meetings so that does something really good look everything PMO's didn't even move on assistantship on opposite it was he on the loose they lost its identity in five years oh no nice and available 12 him the winner participation and the other thing I will add for the second question it was about the participation of the
new middle school there is a little bit the word that family outreach liaison to attend in elementary and high school is relevant work but at middle school we visited - or third year that we have the graduation coaches the last the fir-tree that we have graduation coaches then we focus on me Goldman but so doing activities last we went to activities but things here they focus more on services to their families it's all good that we change he does my Lucy will graph graphs a little bit different so lo que es que usted tiene que tenemos hallucis horas de graduation an email second time in st Manuel and using Monica Venus Alito Wilford we throw a harmonious like muscles in comparin and you're going to throw Stanga in Panama who services back to fellow comedian

want to comment regarding you know participation at the middle school level you know it is only two years but sometimes what happens is you know the meetings coincide with each other and there's not you know there's only two parents so they can't go to all the meetings when they're on the same night so you know in my case I am participating at the high school level and at the elementary level to see how I can support the middle school level even though I am NOT on a path at a middle school level I know what's happening at the high school level I know what's happening at the middle at the elementary level and then I'm able to you know help make comments or you know share the information that I'm getting with other parents so
that they can use at the middle school agua de hecho antes de que pasar a todo esto y una huntin me Roscoe donde esta bon teniendo algunos pequeños problemas Aquarion su hair NCS de padres de como podía ser el director a los estudiantes entonces yo yo un comentario de que cuando una estudiante tengan problema porque no llamar a los Papa's Y decir que yo le dije see yo fuera director adel escuela yo diría quiero a tus papasa Keem en frente de ellos decir estamos a memento difficile pero estamos para apoyar nose todos es ahora cuando tenemos que hacerlo responsibles yo diría fear mami un papel donde como Papa's pasa si este responsable de que esta estudiante lo vamos a sacar adelante para que un futuro cuando los Papa's regressing I diggin me estudiantes de atras
oh ok paso no este pop radio telescope your ma stays esta en parte de tu responsabilidad so also there was a meeting at the middle school level before this all happened and you know they wanted the parents input on you know how to help the principal better support the students and you know I did tell them that you know if I was a principal I would have the parents come in and speak with the child and say you know we're all here to support you we're all here on the same page and you know and the parents to you know sign a contract with the child and the parent and the school you know saying that they were going to support the student and then that way if they were to ever come back and
say hey my students falling behind hey this is happening with my student you know then I could pull out the paper and say you know I explained this to you you were on board with it because it's as much your responsibility as it is my responsibility to be able to put your students at success yes sir it's a leukemia you lost our economy hope or modesties classes the internet came estuvieron llamando a tu hijo es de bajo necesitan trade arunas classes creo que sí mami opinion esto them gracias and one more thing is that what's something that's very much helped me during these times has been you know when my son was behind or needed to turn something in I would get a phone call from somebody at the school saying your son needs to
turn this homework in or your son is falling behind and then I was able to work with him at home but their actual communication and knowledge has helped me a lot that's everything thank you we have a question from Martin thank you madam chair and thank you members of the pack I've heard the family engagement liaisons mentioned a couple of times is there any feedback to the district specific to the family engagement liaison program president aggressive members dilemma a directive Adele pack us who check your status of laron mucho sobre los trabajadores envelope come in too familiar and evil is cooler on steadies Keenan information Oh comentários para nosotros sobre los trabajadores de anza Familia ole opry o el programa de alcanza familiar Marisol what about responder podría in breve the serum a la pregunta
could you please repeat your question sure in a shortened version any comments about the family engagement liaison program do we need more more schools added its is there a good match between the PAC activities and the report from the district in the family engagement liaison program necesito mas and I'm also Quintus I own Point equilibrio entry and participation will lack America so Anthony well daddy Street oh please volcano San proviso is the Claro estamos muy contento sport participation day koona brazil Dios Maria Mika it is an excellent job that they are giving and the collaboration that they are giving to us and the work that they're doing with us pero si Affectiva means if we're a possibility any sin embargo what is the message yes effectively it would be great to have more outreach workers
at the schools that do not have that do not currently have outreach workers they do a great job supporting the schools that do not have them but having an outreach worker at the schools that do not happen lucinda su trabajo tambien muy bien en hem Pro Claro está con la hora muchacho de la hora verdad que estén jamendo las familias parody Hartley's a ver este komova na po yeah es lo que van a ser entonces whereas yes the graduation coaches are also doing a great job at their jobs a great example of that is what Laura just shared with us and how there's no new keeping with the phrase and you know maybe they give you information in order to support the families and the students thank you very much yes yes that's yes the
whole other Jackie remember let me say it it's Eva I'll make it super quick so I see you have the coffee chats with the principal's I'm curious what communication or interaction the pack has outside of the family liaisons and the migrant Yale grad coaches and if there's something we can do to maybe facilitate more interactions with staff if that's something that you think would be beneficial my second question is and you can get back to me on this part because it might be easier that way is on the pie chart it showed child's education there's a really big part of the pie chart a big percentage and I'm curious what that means what that what child's education what that encompasses sorry I said that really fast that's okay entonces yo veo que al packed in
a mucho involucre momento con los facilitated or s del conte an evil del escuela del distrito yo secure studying in cafes comedy rectoress in an interaction con el personal and in el distrito connotes con lo que se los facility Dora's mo steadies piensa en que sería una Buena idea tener comunicación direct o con los maestros que nosotros podemos apoyo ESO para facility ESO in segunda pregunta es en la grafica d SE educación apoyo educación estudiantil eso es algo muy grande y abierto entonces que con see there is so exactamente ustedes no pony contest at component so this is the day I can answer the second question regarding the child's education on the chart basically the childhood education is or the world that the family outreach liaison or graduation coaches leave you've returned into any academies
support for making with counselors read coaches connecting with the teachers providing educational material Chromebooks all that is relating to the child's education look at how they're serious I live in a condo now graphic on tape RSA a child's education or support a apoyo karimico service area so lost folio Christian heroes and Toulouse and possibly no specifics everything will come into familiar you know such a story since Gramercy on cold respect to a connector honest estudiantes de queiroz Cano surface or is the graduation show air material okay Lucas he would in look Chromebooks and internet interconnects your knees and the first question and Jackie in regards to parents engaging with staff in their educator in their partnership with its own system they have often facilitated professional development trainings and opportunities for teachers and my staff to
engage them to learn best practices for engaging with families to hear parents in regards to what their interests are in how best they can support their students in the schools so through whoever provides opportunities the in-service at the beginning of the year and also through the various summits professional development summits that we organized throughout the year when my parents who participates that does the district back but we also have school packs that come and provide learning opportunities for staff great thank you that's yes committed impact the past exactly the separation which is a prison that's only tiempo in Assam that's not a mistake the enforcers paranthas so I just want to say thank you to our pack and our members and families that are participating and all the work that they do for our district
and also thank you for to our school board members for all the wonderful question just asking gracias thank you thank you for the move this connect apps news forum see you soon our next item on our agenda if our equity leadership update with Mike Scott all right thank you you wanted to I take a minute just give you an update regarding or where we are with senior equity leadership in the history as you know we do to the the funding situation that we find ourselves in in the state it is we made a difficult decision to not put into place the equity director position that we had that we'd originally planned on and so the way we're looking at this is kind of a two-phase approach here the first phase being the 2020 21 school
year for next year and then following that the second phase would be in the 2021 22 school year so let me talk a little bit about the plan that we have in place for next school year our goals for next year include bringing more voices of the community to the table elevating those voices and making sure that we understand those voices as well in addition to that we are we're deeply committed to building capacity among our administrative team and not just building capacity with the administrative team but making sure that that work is implemented at the school level and it's actually being done so in a manner that makes a difference for our students and it impacts our students experience so we're in the process right now of organizing some responsibilities as you know Syed
a has been the director of equity for several years now and she will maintain a number of the responsibilities that she currently holds and and just to share some of those with you some of the things that she is currently involved with she does those district-level taking it up trainings she organizes the CP trainings and make sure our staff members are getting to those she sits in on our expulsion our pre expulsion meetings as well as our expulsion hearings and our appeal hearings and she meets monthly with the regional equity director and she meets with those folks across the region she meets with the city of Hillsboro and coordinates and collaborates on equity equity related events she will continue to be part of the cosa equity advisory board and the administrators of color meetings and
she's provided valuable input there and she also I in her in her shared role with human resources she obviously does a lot of work working to diversify our workforce and to make sure that we are more reflective of our student body in addition to that she also takes on a number of the discriminate if there's a discrimination complaint or if there's something relating to board policy AC as she is also involved in that and I just I would be remiss if I didn't take a minute and stop and thanks I hate for all of the work that she has done over the last several years and it's clear as this work has evolved in the Hillsborough school district that we need additional assistance at this point I'm SIA days doing a great job but with
her full-time position in HR we just need to provide additional resources there so what we are what we're doing is we have Francesca tsunami who is executive director and supervisor of schools and we're going to rearrange some of her work and she is going to we're going to have three of the schools that she currently supervises shift over to Audria for supervision and and then that will allow an Francesca the opportunity to take on some of these equity works and for those of you that know a Francesca this is a work that's super important to her she's passionate about and and some of the pluses that make her the perfect fit for this position at this time is that she is recently out of a school and she she understands deeply how to get this
work in at the staff lay in clementa that the staff level and therefore impacting our kids so she will be she will be doing that work her if you were to look at her responsibilities those responsibilities would be I'm creating a system for greater sustainability as we do this work how are we going to sustain it the k-12 administrative meetings that we have she would be responsible for facilitating the development of the professional development sessions as she would work on the teaching and learning professional development she in conjunction with Sayyidi would work with the school board as we do our equity trainings she would make resources available to schools as well as assist in providing appropriate professional development at the school level and as she is one of those people that is a natural thought
partner for the administrative team and staff anyway and she will of course continue to serve in that capacity she also has a wealth of resources that assist in getting this work implemented at the school level and she will make those resources available through through her interactions with people the other thing the other thing that we were focused on this coming year in the 2021 school year is that we have a number of groups that have been operating throughout the district and our goal is to formalize those groups and to more deeply connect with that work in a team that is being red LED at the district level and so that work can be coordinated aligned and greater communication could occur about can occur around that work that wouldn't that include things like our african-american family
engagement team the work with the pack our LGBTQ work that is happening that throughout the district and then of course the title six are Native American a work that's being done there's you don't hear a lot about that but there's significant work being done there and this will allow us a more comprehensive opportunity to make sure that work is embedded in all that we do so so that really is phase one and in order to give them more voices at the table we also are going to be working on this notion of expanded cabinet during work sessions and expanding cabinet would would involve inviting the exec the executive directors to to those work sessions to be available for conversation and so if I'm just looking at some of the people on this screen that would
be involved with that or read Francesca it would be Audrey it would be lame it would be Olga those folks would be invited to I hope I'm not missing anybody on the screen right now but those those folks would be invited to work sessions so that they can contribute and elevate the conversations that we have around our work so that would be phase one that would be two thousand twenty twenty one phase two then would be twenty one twenty two once we have these structures in place and it's more of a formalized approach to our equity work we would then hire an equity director for the 2122 school year so just wanted to let you know that that's the direction we're going I have long said that equity work is not it should never just
fall to one person it needs to be a value of the organization it needs to that work needs to be spread across the organization at the same time I would also acknowledge that with a district our size it's important that we do have a person whose primary responsibility is to organize into in to elevate that work like I said before so be looking for a higher spring of next year for the coming school year though it would be more of a team approach and inviting some of our experts to the table for increased conversations happy to answer any questions that you might have about that alright alright thank you Mike for that update we are moving on to our next item on our agenda can I say quickly share sure I just I want to
just take this time to just say how excited I am to be working in this role in conjunction with the work that I do as executive director I understand that it's it's we do need something that's more and looking towards moving our work forward for integration and collaboration so that we're building that capacity and we're building something that will in directly affect our students and moving them forward it's my 28th year in education and I've taught in two different states in three different districts and I hope to bring and know I can bring some background and insight to our administrators who will then bring it forward to our teachers and also be a listening ear and voice for our students and for our staff so thank you Mike for introducing it and I look forward
to hearing from all of you thank you and we have one question actually thank you madam chair and I it's probably more of a comment while we're on this topic to say EDA and Francesca thank you very very much there's a lot of work to be done in this area and I just wanted to empower you Francesca to make your voice heard you know we're asking you to do a difficult job and it's not always gonna be a good news story the what you have to tell us so I'm ready for that and I encourage you and invite you to have real candid discussions with superintendent Mike Scott and this board when we're meeting as a board because we have to we have to change the district and I think we're all in it and
what we need is sophistication on this issue so we get it right one of the things that that Mike said is bringing more voices to the table well that has to be done really with a lot of nuance and sophistication because we we definitely need to get that right and that's easy to get it wrong if it were left to me I'd probably get it wrong because I just I don't have those competencies but I desperately want to hear those voices and and and bring those issues to the surface that we have traditionally overlooked so I thank you for stepping into this role you know you're gonna have to tell you can have to say thanks to your colleagues that maybe you had never said before when you put this new role this new hat
on so I'm looking forward to hearing what you what you and sayi to tell us I'm moving forward so more to come on that subject for us as a district and a board especially so our next item with Mike is our school resource officers update all right thank you and I can assure you Francesca has said those words to other colleagues before so I think she is ready to go no excited to have her aboard and in this role so thank you we wanted to give you just a bit of an update regarding our school resource officers um you know it was it was just a week ago that we were having this conversation and there were a lot of questions that were posed and we don't have the answers to all those questions yet
nor have we done all the homework necessary to be really frank we have spent a ton of time this last week on the fall 2020 opening plan and it's going to take us a little bit longer to gather some information with that said we do have a number of things that we want to share with you today and we've got Alex is no longer invisible he's appeared and he's he's ready to go and he is he we've talked about wanting to give you a little bit of a history of SROs and the you know just the just why did they exist in the first place and and what iterations have there been um there were questions about the trainings as well as suggestions about trainings and there's questions about demographics and budgets and and then
we had a number of questions that led us to believe that helping you get a glimpse at the day in the life of an SRO would be helpful as well because it really is a different a different job than a patrol officer for example so at this point let me turn it over to Alex he's got a number of things to share with you and I believe he's going to go through just a couple sections at a time and then he'll pause and give you an opportunity to ask any questions that you have and just as a reminder this is just this is just the first step in gathering information for you at our next meeting together we'll have more information and in between now and then we have gathered information from our students and
parents as well we met with our administrative team today and we we worked at putting questions together that students would be students may respond to Dale is going to be working with the team to make sure that we get a representative response from our student from our students and we'll have much more information and insight into this entire issue the next time we're together but for now let me turn it over to Alex and he can share some information with you all right good evening everyone if but my audio of my internet seems like it's been doing pretty good tonight but if we start to chop up a bit just give me a thumbs down and we can adjust and make things happen so good evening I just wanted to start by thanking superintendent Scott
and every one of the distinguished members of the Hillsborough sex a few minutes to speak on law enforcement in the school setting I've had the honor and the privilege of working with in many facets of law enforcement and I considered working with the students staff and families of the Hillsborough school district to be the most important undertaking of my career as we look at police services through the lens of equity fairness and consistency I'm excited to be here tonight to give a glimpse into the school resource officers who function in our schools and to begin this important dialogue I know that I will only scratch the surface tonight but look forward to the continued discussions to help distinguish what and how safety is defined within the Hillsborough school district to give you just a brief
history of what I've done so we can have a starting point I began my law enforcement career in Madison Wisconsin and I started I started as a police officer in 1995 and I came back to Oregon because I grew up in Southern Oregon and I've done the majority of my law enforcement career with the Hillsboro Police Department and now the transition to the Hillsborough School District has just been a tremendous pleasure and I take it again as a cherished opportunity so thank you I've been fortunate in my 25 years to have done several assignments within both agencies I've worked as a tactical operator a traffic officer I've worked in child abuse detective unit but I think that fittingly I've spent time here in Hillsborough as a school resource officer that was back in 99 and
I've also spent time as the SRO supervisor supervising the seven SROs when I was there here at the Hillsborough Police Department so I've had the opportunity to see both sides of of the program as a supervisor and as a school resource officer I've had the opportunity to listen to the work session leading up to tonight yeah I took away I had very I have a lot of takeaways from that what I heard was a thoughtful heartfelt discussion and I heard some recurring themes that I hope that I addressed tonight and with that I'd like to give you just a brief overview of the law enforcement officers who work in our schools and have the most contact with our students and families and those are the school resource officers there I think I want to start
with there there really is a difference when we generally talk about a police officer and a school resource officer some of the questions and some of the discussions that I was hearing were about what types of trainings some continuing training how does a school resource officer get assigned what do their daily activities look like and I just really briefly want to touch on what a what's just really required to be a police officer because I think that's relevant and I think organ does a fairly robust job at that every police officer in Oregon has to attend a dpsst State Academy and that Academy is 16 weeks in Salem regardless of agency they go to Salem it's a standardized Academy and they get that approved curriculum it covers a wide variety of topics everything from emergency
vehicle operations how to drive a car under stress and with multiple inputs coming at you to defensive tactics to criminal law to scenario based training upon graduation from the police academy all recruits then go back to their prospective agencies and begin what I would call a sort of a localized and individualized training program so Hillsboro PD does a post Academy before their recruits hit what they call a training officer phase and they do a two-week post Academy and I think that's important because Hillsboro recognizes that their officers need to be integrated with their community that there are fundamental differences that each community have and it's important that their new officers get the opportunity to at least get a glimpse of some of those the Hillsboro Police Department has they're fortunate they've made the investment and
they have a full-time training staff and that's who instructs the post Academy and for their two weeks the topics that they covered are lost surrounding use of force constitutional limits on the application of force firearms training less lethal tools arresting control defensive tactics we covered crisis intervention and de-escalation tactical de-escalation we covered community policing patrol tactics and that's a lot to throw at him in two weeks but I think that's an important baseline for us to understand that Hillsboro Police Department officers who may be in our schools get that type of foundation built in after the two-week post Academy all officers attend an additional 15 weeks of training we used to be called a field training program where they spend 15 weeks with a coach and they go to a variety of they do they
try to get a smattering of calls for service getting to know the community they're being evaluated daily they're seen what kind of response the new recruits give with their evaluations it's a it's a pretty intense program and upon completion of their fuel training after 15 weeks the police officers are then bound to yearly training requirements held by the state agency dpsst and those are eight hours of use of force or firearms training that you have to get every year an hour of ethics training and then every three years they they have a training cycle which police officers have to get three hours of mental health crisis intervention training and 84 hours that total training within that three-year cycle that the agencies themselves sort of deem is important to them and that is nice that it's
sort of individualized to you again their community the state has and has given that that power to them so that's sort of the really quick fundamental rundown of the just what happens when you get hired as a basic police officer then they're off and running they are held to a 18 month probationary period where while they're on their own they have to perform well they're still evaluated and once they get off their probationary period they are eligible typically to apply for promotions and what we call specialty assignments the school resource officer position is a considered a detective position under the Hillsboro Police Department and I think that's important as well because our specialty assignments it's a pretty vigorous process and what you are selected into a specialty assignment you do receive additional training to help
you succeed in that position whether it would be a homicide detective whether it would be a specialty assignment such as a SWAT team member a detective goes to a detective academy the additional training comes there so all school resource officers are considered detectives and they attend additional training so our sorrows attend a national association of school resource officers basic Academy so there is an additional 40 hours that SRO is attend prior to coming into our schools so that's a lot I think I'll take a pause is there any questions regarding the basic training hiring of a police officer I think Alex you were gonna mention I'm just the the beginning of the program and why did this came about to begin with I mean we have a couple more questions from where you bet well
the school resource officer program for Hillsboro started started about thirty plus years ago and this was a program that was really championed by the school district it was a former superintendent Joe Rodriguez who brought this program forward and with the collaboration of law enforcement at the time folks thought that this would be a great way to really build relationships in and sort of break down that uniform barrier of police officers it was engagement of youth in our community there was never there was never a point where this was a program to get police officers in schools and the intent to you know make arrests and and then get kiddos into the system the intent of the system of the program was was the opposite of that how do we break the cycle how do we
keep kids away from the system what else can we do to minimize that contact with the juvenile system we have some forward thinkers back then and I think that the programs lined up we had leadership that said let's let's go for it and the Hillsboro Police Department in the Hillsborough school districts were probably on the very very front end of having a school resource officer within the schools and they started with two SROs within our schools I will tell you that coming out to Oregon from Madison a big consideration when I came here was really the progressive nature of our community and our Police Department and the youth services program was was a was a big draw for me the program since I've seen it has had the same fundamental philosophies of this youth engagement
community engagement it's all about relationship building but during the years there has been focused changes within the view Services Unit in 1999 a a priority for me as a school resource officer going into that position I knew that the educational component of the police officer was was it was an important priority for the district and for the police department and one of my duties was to teach the DARE program they set me off to dare school I completed that I got certified and that was a priority I I taught my ten weeks adair I made those we were sort of a lesson uniform we turned our radios off and it was about engaging with the kids having that committed time being in the schools having that engagement and just being a presence and that was
with the elementary kiddos is where that started the program after I left as a school resource officer I would say you know they're the focus shift that they had after the dare time what was the great time I don't know folks recalled that we had a we had an era where our sorrows taught the great curriculum it was the gang resistance education and training and the great curriculum focused again on decision-making and and they taught that curriculum it was a good fit that that curriculum then bumped up into the middle schools and so now we had a component of we had some elementary education and now we were in the middle schools teaching the great program so that was a focus for a few years and then I think that sort of brings us up
to maybe a noticeable shift where we are today and I'll call it a post active-shooter mass-casualty era post Columbine where I think there has been a shift to have more of a presence a visual presence in the schools we looked at target hardening we looked at pre-planned maps we've looked at statistics from the unfortunate incidents that occurred around the country and I think the trend was to do what we could do prepare ourselves with law enforcement and in the school district to have the fastest and the best response that we could have because we firmly believe that time made a big difference in an active shooter event was how do we get folks into the schools quickly how do we get information to our first responders quickly and thoroughly with multiple agencies responding to a
mass casualty event it was a it was a big undertaking and I think we've shifted a bit to tools and technology but with that I will say that again the fundamental program philosophy was always and it still has been the student engagement piece getting in the schools making those connections it's never been about the arrests and the referrals in getting the kids in the system it's always been finding that line of how do we keep kids out of the system but the philosophies are very much still foundational so we have a few question here should have no run-through because our time is running out no we have one we'll have a question from Mark Martin and then Andrew with an attempt to speak thank you madam chair just a quick question if you would comment
I've come in a lot about HPD tell us a little bit about the ws CSO piece and also if the fact that North Plains in Cornelius technically are a separate jurisdiction under contract to the sheriff if that changes anything does that make it clearer or murkier what's the whole Sheriff's Office and the contract with these two other municipalities how does that change the SRO program that's a great question I think we are fortunate up here in the Portland metro area that the school resource officer program again most of the that agencies specifically WCS oh and HPD all subscribe to basically the Nasra fundamentals of SROs and how they function in schools the Sheriff's Office Pat gear has been a extremely so court of Sheriff the Sheriff's Department in the Hillsboro Police Department trained in very
similar manners they interact together and that umbrella extends out Washington County wide for the Metro police agencies that we all tried to you I think the benefit of having one a benefit of having Public Safety in our schools within the Washington County metro area is that we can have that communication piece and we have our law enforcement and first responders training very similar so the Sheriff's Office has a very similar MOU that the city of Hillsboro has with this Hillsboro school district they provide SROs to our County Schools the responses are typically very consistent North Plains falling under with it with newly falling under the the sheriff's office I don't want to misspeak with that I've had conversations with the sheriff's office and SRO services are being provided by the current SROs and they are
drawing from them up to North Plains but we don't specifically have North Plains written into the current MOU if that answers your question thank you I'm Cornelius Cornelius you're included in there the Washington County EMA and you go ahead with your comments and then Jackie you're on deck um so I have a business working ok that Mike some pretty weird or lawsuits I was just checking um so I mean we have two questions just do you the S orders undergo annual implicit bias training and also you mentioned that one of the incense was to keep kids away from the system instead of you know just doing like you know full on law enforcement and arresting students so I was wondering how our Esther is being proactive in ensuring that this doesn't happen or how this
doesn't sort of go away from how to keep kids away from the system if that makes sense yeah you bet great question Andrew the state requirements as I mentioned for the for the three-year cycle requires bias training so those officers do get that and the second piece to that question andrew is that the SROs really try to [Music] start with the kiddos early to avoid getting into the system later if that makes sense building those relationships early on in the primary schools I think pays big dividends in the end when it comes to the secondary piece and the SROs also try to and it sometimes is difficult the SROs where we're multiple hats within our schools and those hats we have to look at and we have to make sure that the school piece picks
days the school piece and the criminal piece days of the criminal piece and we never want to have SRO sort of bleed over into one realm and have that be a gateway into the next realm if that makes sense so there are definitely some incidents that an SRO would have to act on Andrew but for the most part they really really try to engage in those positive interactions with students and keep the school peace cool pieces and and criminal pieces outside of the schools Jackie thank you Alex just one question is do our SROs review our discipline process and policies or I mean are they aware of what our processes are and how we manage discipline at the before it gets to the criminal level another great question RSR Rose go through your training the
the that I've mentioned through the police department and a piece that I didn't mention is they also go through a training with this with the school district I think that there is always a piece that we can improve actions of maybe what what what types of things maybe what types of training should be mandatory and what types of training may be shouldn't I can't say that there is a mandatory piece right now that says every SRO has to has to be familiar with the school discipline piece but I know that most SROs are involved and have awareness of the discipline piece the referral piece the school referral piece and again that becomes a balance of the SROs and what is their role within that piece and I know that's sort of a vague answer to
your question but we've seen we've seen some examples of nationwide of SROs within schools who you know maybe a a contact was bad and you know we always have to come back to the piece of what was our what was the transaction there with the SRO what was what were they doing were they trying to be engaged and enforce the school discipline piece or was it a criminal piece and that becomes a very it's definitely not a black and white area because I think again the purpose of engaging with kiddos and trying to have a good dialogue in to reinforce good decision-making or bad decision-making on a daily basis will bleed into that where an SRO may see as a school discipline piece a behavior they could be considered a school discipline piece and where
and how that SRO their role in that piece becomes I think a discussion that we could move forward with thank you Alex we have Yadira and then Mark thanks for joining our meeting today so I have a few questions so what what is do you want me just to give the questions and then let you speak or just kind of one at a time whatever works you there so really how our how our officers are going to become SRO is vetted for like their their personal views on Dei so diversity equity and inclusion and then also what type of oversight do they have because concerning is you know when they interact with our families what happens next and who sees that interaction so then to Jackies point like you know how are we knowing when
they are kind of crossing over from school discipline into the other section like so what oversight is there for that and then you know the my other question too is what do you feel I guess is the difference between say our relationship with the SRO versus PBS's relationship with what they had going on and you know from what I'm hearing it seems to be working in our district but not working in that district and they're just you know right next door so so what are some of those differences yeah those are those are great questions thank you you dear I think that yet and it's hard because I want to you know I'm trying to I have a bias right I have a bias to this and I'm trying to I have a bias towards
the Hillsboro Police Department and and I know that there's a lot and I sort of went through there's a lot of training there's some betting that I was gonna go into I have a piece in here that I can go into about the the process of hiring how an SRO gets assigned that answers some of those questions that you brought up but there is a fundamental difference between the Hillsboro Police Department and the Portland Police Bureau I believe the Portland Police Bureau is a is a very large entity and the Hillsboro Police Department is lucky that we are a much smaller agency that has very strong community ties and great partnerships with our community entities and I think that plays a a big role in your in your in your question that what is the
difference between an SRO in Hillsboro important one it starts from the top and and I'll tell you that in Hillsboro and in Washington County with the the Chief of Police the SRO program is a priority it's it is a priority that they service this it's a priority that they get or attempt to get the best SRO so that they can get into the program and it's a priority that the services they provide are consistent with our community input and our school district input our community partner input and I just don't know if the size of the Portland Police Bureau allows that or not but i but i there is a lot of oversight a lot of training that happens and to be quite honest we have time out here as police officers we have time
out here we have the luxury of time in our community that we get to build those relationships it is different out here it is just a different community that we get to work in that we get to teach him that we get to reside and we're very lucky so I think that speaks to a piece of why I think we are different out here then maybe another agency you know I you know I when I came out here you there again I think I spoke to at the start the draw that I had when I met the chief of police out here I knew that that's where the Hillsborough PD was where I was gonna land I just knew it very progressive Police Chief very very I would categorize as untraditional he was a police
chief who his priorities were to hire diversity to make relationships I'll give you an example for myself working as a motor officer in a Traffic Division so I read the motorcycles and I wrote tickets all day long and that was just a part of being a traffic police officer I knew that when I signed up but our but our chief at the time the same chief that I was speaking to you never ever once told the traffic team that you have to go out and write a ticket that you have to go out and write X amount of tickets for make X amount of stops the chief of police knew that having the presence of a traffic team made all the difference is having those resources and again that speaks towards the commitment to our
sorrows when we talk about how are they different to other sorrows and different agencies oversight was a recurring theme that I heard from the work session and I think oversight is a is a good thing the police department here when I started in Madison Wisconsin I you could not and it may have changed but you could not file a citizen complaint on an officer unless you went to the police department and did a written statement when I came out to Hillsborough this same Chief of Police instituted a citizen complaint policy a database where it was all about transparency you there it was all about he got that if there was a complaint on an officer's behavior out in our community he wanted to know about it he wanted to make it make a change and
so that database our police chiefs who have followed that police chief have never wavered from that stance that they welcome community input they welcome citizen complaints accommodation complaints so there is a police oversight tomat if there is a complaint on an officer I think the the bridge that we need to make is sometimes sometimes folks in our community may just they may not know how to make a complaint and I think that we could we could communicate that more that if we have a complaint on it and on an officer who's working in the schools Hillsboro Police Department has it has a supervisor that they can they can bring that complaint to that supervisor will listen to them whether it's a email phone call in person and that supervisor will give them a response on
a finding and then I think that we have district oversight that can happen as well the partnership is so good that by by all means I welcome folks who give me a call I think that there are administrators in each of our schools that have taken calls on their sorrows bye bye-bye kiddos by family by community members and I think those those calls are those complaints that information will work their way up the chain but I think that oversight is a good thing transparency is a good thing that if there's discussion moving forward more than happy to be involved in that and then the officer the the vetting of the officer question are we running like hugely long we are I was gonna say I'm sorry I was gonna go into the the hiring and
the assigning of the SRO and it speaks a little bit to that you dare there's a lengthy process in that and they really do try to look at officer performance historical performance what officers have done they try to get that baseline feeling of an officer to try to find that good fit there's there's there's there's minimum standards there's minimum standards that the department to make sure we get the right folks or they get the right folks in these positions because they know how difficult and what a complex environment that these officers work in they also since I've been there there's always been a HSD component to that assignment as as well as HPD we've had we've had cabinet members we've had administrators from buildings sit on our previous SRO assignment panels interview panels that ever
since I've been there so there's there's been a very good process built in to where we get input from both both parties so just for the time of check-in for everybody to know our regular session is scheduled at 7:00 so we can't go after we could we have a lot of business to get to in that session but I do want to request Mike that just like we did a work session before where we had a discussion that we look to continue and add an additional work session so we can have this conversation I think this is something that everybody is really interested in digging deeper into that just some thoughts for us and and maybe for Alex to bring back in our other discussion that I was hearing is I think a big component
that you can maybe come back to in our another SEC session is how are we measuring the success of how this program is the success of this program is there any data tracking that shows that it does reduce kids you know getting involved in the criminal justice system are we looking at data from our [Music] county to see if instance of Lord and districts that have this program in place versus not so I think that that data is really important to compile I think the other thing that you mentioned was the intent of the program and I think one thing that we have learned in our district is intent versus impact and how that may differ and so although the intent is very work how we making sure that it's not unintentionally impacting our students
in a negative way so I think that is important for us to discuss in the future conversation and the other thing is that we have learned in our district is that our families especially our communities of color are not experienced in navigating these institutions of the system so it's great that we have a couple they don't know how to actually submit a complaint or it's not even in their own language to be able to do that that becomes a barrier and a way that those experiences are silenced in our community we never hear about them so I'm interested to see how that program or have which way either HPD or Washington County are doing things to ensure that communities know how to navigate the program and it's also accessible to them and also thinking about
in the future conversation if you could bring back what are the you mentioned like community ties that we have that is different in Phil's bro how are we tied to culturally specific organizations here in our community through Washington County or through Hillsboro Police Department and what are the ways that they're intentionally and explicitly connecting with those communities that normally are marginalized in our society so I would like to see what initiatives or ways that's happening already if you could bring that back to our larger session and Mike if you could work to out of a work session so that we can have more of a dialogue around this I think this is very helpful for all of us so with that I know that there were other people that want to comment but we have
to end our time so that I can give you a break to get some water use a restroom and then I'll see you back here in five minutes and we'll do our regular session thank you thank you more covered and roses they're still the same link that we have right okay so same link so we can do some you and you [Music] Eric I have a quick question before we get started sure um so I know the agenda says for the new Stern reps to take the oath after our thing will we still be involved in the rest of the meeting and discussion time at the end yeah I think that's fine for you to be in the discussion we're not gonna kick you out really and in Andrew they don't officially take their position
until July 1 yeah ok I'm just waiting for I don't see Marc yet so that's all I'm waiting for and then I'll get started Erica before we start do you mind if I just make a comment I just share with my colleagues that unfortunately Donna Tanner's husband passed earlier this month and many of us know Donna as a dear friend and colleague from the Beaverton School District so Thank You Martin I have reached out to her as well all right I see Marcus here so let's get started okay so I am calling our regular Hillsboro school board meeting into session and our first is our flag salute so if you could all join me you know that I'm speaking but you can meet your mic I'll make sure that I'll say it out loud for
all of us I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all thank you our next item on our agenda is recognition and student presentation so this is our recognition and appreciation for outgoing student representative any ads Emma Marie I saw a lucky lad Alvarado and Andrew Goodwin I think we have we have a PowerPoint mic that I saw yes we do so this is a time for all of us to I guess have comments from our board and staff recognizing our student reps I just want to say what an amazing experience it has been being a board member and having student nurse at the table because you're hearing things directly from from that
so I'm gonna yeah go ahead Amy okay so I put together this slideshow but for almost every single time that the school board met this year I think maybe we missed two or three me Andrew Maria have taken a photo usually Jackie's helped us and you know held the camera and it's been a real fun time and so I put this to there um last week and moat they're mostly in chronological order to the best of my ability some of them might have gotten a little mixed up but yeah it's somebody gonna run this slide so we can see these pictures there we go this one was taken with the outgoing student representatives when we took our oath and see grace on the fun time Oh next sorry this was us when we got our
desks the next and then this is us with our portraits at the 8th the admin Center next this was the one of our first work sessions and then we can just sort of go through the next few just sort of that was all we had to do at Glencoe then that was the OSB a conference that one was really fun next and this was the one that was actually featured on the OSB a twitter account that was super fun we were some of the only student reps there and it was really really fun to see that like up there the next and these next few are just some from school board meetings so we can go through them that one was from the first one we had to do during the distance we had a
fun time trying to get these photos from them but we got most of them so next one was taken by next we've got Andrew he's going to Linfield and he's pursuing a being creative in writing and a BS in digital art go Glencoe real time and that's all Thank You Danny Andrew and Maria for yes you want to go and if you have any comments to share and then will go with me and you right yeah are you until you your mic is muted excuse you're trying to let's go with Andrew for a little bit and maybe we can get Maria back in a little bit so go ahead Andrew alright so I wrote an open letter to the students in Blanco it's okay if I read that right now also if you'd like Rhodes
I can send that to you for the public record so June 23rd 2020 dear Bronco students it's amazing to think about how such a small amount of time can make a significant difference think about it son seconds quantify a miniscule moment in your life but those 10 seconds could be world-changing ten seconds even today you never know when one small move could lead to a global phenomenon when we discussed changing times and societies it is crucial acknowledging that while we cannot use a time machine to physically travel back in time or can we travel forward to see what our current antics and behaviors could lead to we can find ourselves physically and socially changing with the times for example when we make mistakes which is a part of life we use time to think about
what we did and how we could approach the situation differently in the future in this process which could last minutes or years we change ourselves and our behaviors which could have a domino effect on how our future solves turn out time as a concept is one of the few mysteries in life that humans have been unable to manipulate sure we've established time zones to lost experience the Sun rising and setting at approximately the same measurable time regardless of where we live daylight saving time supposedly keeps the sun's actions in summer and winter synchronized with immeasurable life the ability to change a daily schedule could alter your habits to the point where you change your entire daily routine but these are measurements of time not quite controls over them physically warping time to allow us to
travelens in the past or future can only be discussed in science fiction we can easily replace the year 2020 in our calendars with 1320 but the ability to truly venture back to the 14th century and tell Marco Polo that his name work and endeavours have been simplified into a swimming pool gain is one that we have yet to encounter we have used time to go through our childhoods our teen years and for those of us who have recently graduated our first steps as young adults with that we had gained maturity learned life lessons made new friends changed our outfits and hairstyles used a new technology developed hobbies and passions found our own purposes and developed our own meanings of life only once in a blue moon can be argue or proclaim that the world truly
is our generations oyster between the Cova 19 pandemic the ongoing fight for liberty and justice for all and the questioning of the system functions of many aging societal systems we have the ability to use our generations resilience tenacity and innovation to ensure that as many people as possible if not everyone has an equitable chance at living their own interpretations our can dream we must keep this momentum going and even the smallest actions can make it seem indifferent treating everyone you meet with dignity and respect keeping an open mind listening to others who have not been listened to enough seeking action to help those who have been hurt by society as a whole appreciating the small things in life and in nature and doing your part in maintaining a community where everyone feels equally welcomed and
respected will help everyone succeed in the future that remains largely unknown it's been an honor serving as your sitting representative to the whole sport School District Board of Directors I wish all of you that our continued studies and future endeavors onward Andrew Goodwin class of 2020 thank you Andrew I am wanted to make sure we have Maria to speak and I think she's having trouble with fun meeting her Mike and if I remember before birth me if I'm wrong it was control C control D okay Maria so if you're hearing me if you press control D you should be able to unmute your mic I saw you a little bit ago and then it went away we'll try it again there you go there you go [Music] maybe you've got down yeah hey it just
goes by default into muted it's the administrator can you people can the administrator unmute people has asked the same thing yeah can you can she try calling in we got you okay okay okay so um this was our final goodbye but I heard that it's not it's the first goodbye not the final one correct is there still something during discussion time because I had something for discussion time but we have discussion time at the end - yeah yes um well I just want to say that this was a really really really really unique experience and there's not really a word that I can put on it or how I can describe it to the next in it rabs or how I feel about it because it's not one emotion that I felt with it or
not one lesson that I learned from it I learned a lot I learned I've made a couple mistakes with keeping my poker face I it's actually harder than I thought um I did I'm just grateful and other than that like I I don't want to cry yet because I might cried during discussion time so I'm gonna try to keep the shirt right now but um I really do love the bond that I created with Danny and Andrew and I love that type of bond that also led us the community and the district itself and so I am very excited for the coming years in the coming the new student reps because I I do love to see this district grow which from experience from records that showed this this district isn't afraid to grow and
it's not scared to learn and it's not scared to take risks which I love and admire so much and I just really hope that it never forgets that part about it so obviously it's it's if I could if I could try to describe it in one word in I'd say that it's a whole lesson with various lessons that make sense but it's I loved it and I'm super happy that I did it and I'm super thankful and grateful and happy about it Thank You Maria and yes you will have discussion time at the end just a couple of comments on there and that from Debbie just been brought to all of you and Joe Billy thank you for your service service we appreciate you and bow your thoughts on input and Francesca good luck Brian
and Kevin Thank You Danny so is there any more comments or things you want to say we also have discussion time later I'm sure so I'm sure that's everybody thinking is we don't want to cry a whole wait for the discussion time it has been a joy of course I'm gonna be super proud of all of you in your accomplishments so we're gonna move on now to our next item on our agenda which is the appointment of our student representatives to the board of directors and administer the oath of office and in order to do that we need a motion I move that the board of directors appoint Maya Smith l homme Ekrem Ulla and Devin Nell to serve as student representatives to the Board of Directors the 2021 school year and administer the oath
of office second so it has been moved by mark and seconded by Jackie all those in favor please signify by saying yes in the chat and I will read our boats or aye okay the eye bone - Alan Martin Granum Cheyenne Kim Adira Martinez Jackie's frost and Mark Watson and myself the motion carries and now we will administer the oath of office so this is going to be a little tricky because usually we have the student reps at front of the podium and they're reading the same form so just wanting to make sure that rows do they have the form in front of them as well to be able read yes I do okay so what I'll do is I'll start with our first student rep Imam um Allah let me know when you're able
to speak and I muted nilaam are you here I see you on there if you're having trouble with the muted as well it was control-d correct Yuna and there you go Jordan can has done meter high low so you were gonna do the oath of office and you have it in front of you so normally I would just say a sentence of chewing you'll repeat it back but since you have it in front of you I'm just gonna let you take it and speak on it okay is it just a sentence where it's the blank just a paragraph yet what when you say I and then your name i oh ha Makram Allah will support the Constitution and the laws of the United States and the state of Oregon and will discharge the duties of
student representatives to the Hillsboro school district of Directors in the best of my ability perfect then you have this dark image which you will sign and they won't get it over into our administration so next your next student rep which is Maya Smith hi can you hear me yes can you all right Maya so you have that document front of you as well yes I do read when you're ready okay I Maya Smith will support the Constitution and the laws of the United States and the state of Oregon and will discharge the duties of student representative to the Hillsborough school district forward of Directors to the best of my abilities Thank You Maya welcome aboard and next we have Devlin now and let me know when your army together all right am i uh can
you guys hear me yeah okay when we're ready all right I Devlin nil will support the Constitution and the laws of the United States and the state of Oregon and will discharge the duties of student representative to the Hillsborough School District Board of Directors to the best of my ability thank you to all our news student reps we are so excited to have you it is awesome that you get to see and experience all this work that we're doing and I know normally we would have a great picture with all of you which is part of the process but we'll get there with time so thank you so much for joining us okay board our next item in our agenda is our approval of the agenda and I would like to ask that whoever makes
the motion for the approval of the agenda if you could amend it to include the kovat 19 update that we weren't able to capture during our work session because of our time and we appreciate that I move that the Board of Directors approve the agenda amended to include the Kovan 19 update from the work session as printed I hope that was right so has been moved by Jackie and seconded by Adira all those in favor please signify by stating I in our chat and I will read the votes the aye votes are Martin Granum Indira Martinez she and Kim Mark Watson Lisa Allen Jackie Scott and myself the motion carries so with that Mike do you want to start with that update and then we move into the rest of the items that'd be great
thanks Erika we do have a couple folks that are going to provide an update this evening and we really wanted to do a couple different things there as you know we've been planning heavily for the opening fall of 2020 and what school is going to look like you you're also aware that we received guidance regarding what what the Oregon Department of edie expects from school districts as as we work towards that opening and so it's a pretty comprehensive process and we've got a number of teams working on that and Travis and work are going to go over that when we get to that portion of things but I also wanted to let you know that Michelle has a little bit of information for you you received an email from Oh SBA today and it was
talking about two liability insurance and I wanted to have Michelle give you just an update on that we learned about this and not long ago ourselves and we've been waiting for a response from OSP a and cosa and it looks like there is a tactic at play here and I wanted to give Michelle an opportunity to bring you up to speed on that thank you Mike thank you directors and this won't take very long I BA did send out a communication to all members and in it gave a pretty good explanation as far as the change to liability coverage for school districts in regards to communicable diseases so basically communicable diseases were never explicitly included or excluded from our liability coverage and what's happened is at this point given the pandemic insurers are explicitly excluding
it from liability insurance so that creates a shift for us and kind of opens a liability door that's quite frightening in terms of risk to the district and associated cost with that and so what OS ba is doing in response to the statewide potential of challenges for school districts and managing school district budgets is they're asking for advocacy letters T sent that are requesting that the legislature and act a crisis period the limit on liability for school districts that are conducting there they're reopening plans and their services to kids in alignment with the guidance that's been provided from local health authorities and the CDC so that's just a quick overview of the letter and the kind of the call to action that OS ba is asking for board members to do during the short session
so it is it is fairly time-sensitive and I'm happy to field any questions you have about that yeah can you provide us like a sample letter of what we can send in yeah in inside of the OSB a letter and I can forward that again to the board is a link that takes you to a template and so we do have that available and I'm happy to share that hold I will get that T tonight okay mark so if the legislature does not choose to enact this as part of the special session the basic summary is that it puts the district that severe liability risk of having people in the building essentially right well it opens our exposure because something that wasn't explicitly excluded from coverage before from our insurance pools explicitly excluded now so
in the event that someone believes that they put their student or they contracted Cove aid from a school exposure if they could trace that back or prove that in court the case we would be liable up to the limits of the current tort law per incident I think if there is any if there's any thing to take a little refuge in it's that every district in the state is in the same position those people that use pace as their insurance provider obviously are part of this but though there's districts that also use additional or different insurance providers and those insurance providers are not providing liability insurance on visit either so this is something that will be dealt with on a broad scale as is our certainly our hope yeah and the advocacy letter does include
a stipulation that the limit of liability would apply in the event that the district is again implementing all of the strategies given in the guidelines for the utmost safety you know which is what we're in the process of developing but for districts or organizations that aren't following the guidelines their their risk won't be limited mark sorry yeah so you sort of just covered it so I was typing in my question mark so like based on this a district who is deemed as reckless could still be held liable yes which really leads us right into the next part of our presentation here the only tend to be reckless there there really is a there's a lot of planning going on around the opening of 2020 and just you know to to really understand if this is
an incredibly complex process that we're working on it is there's still so many unknowns we know that the guidance that is currently out by the Oregon Department of Ed is likely going to change and be altered to some degree both in July and in August we also know that we can't afford to wait and that we need to start working on these plans right now to deliver the best instruction that we possibly can for our students come September and just to bring it just a little insight into what's going on behind the scenes we are working with the largest districts in the state there's five of us that are partnering and we're and Travis will talk a little bit about that but just know that we're working with the five largest states as well as
the districts within Washington County to make sure that we are aligned to the degree possible doesn't mean that it's going to look exactly the same but it does mean that we have the opportunity to have a greater insight and to look happening across the region across the state it also gives us the opportunity to hopefully look a little more alike and different and and to put everyone's best thinking on that so and we currently have teams established no changes are coming there's going to be iterations but we feel like we have a process that is going to lead us to the best decision possible so Travis would you take it from here thanks Mike and thanks for the opportunity to share Kelley has a PowerPoint with a lot of slides and my intention tonight is
to go through it really quickly to give you an overview and I'm happy to answer questions if folks want more details in August every district in the state and every school will have to submit a blueprint for to return in the fall Kelly go ahead and click one forward we will be submitting our plan to the county health authorities will be showing our plan to the board although neither the county nor the board technically need to approve the plan we need your support and then finally we will submit the plan to OTE by August 15th and this PowerPoint will show you how we're going to get there please know that we're gonna need to be flexible along the way we'll be getting updates to the guidance from the Oregon Department of Education and local health
authorities and our plans will change but this framework will help us be flexible and adaptive this is an iterative process and you'll see versions of each component of the plan so I'm gonna hustle through these slides and then answer questions if you have them so the plan consists of 8 sections the first three are pretty prescriptive and the last the blue ones there and equity are left mostly to districts to decide what our approach is going to be go ahead and click you can see in the table of contents what the component pieces of each section are go ahead and click and we're getting more clarity on these sections in future updates from OTE and the guidance go ahead and click go ahead and click go ahead and click so we've got district level teams
that are working together to really create what we're calling sort of the sandbox or what is the framework for which each school needs to prepare itself we do want to look more alike than different across our schools and across districts and so we're gonna come up with a framework that works for every school and schools will work out the nuances sometimes based on their facilities what's different between a readville versus a Patterson versus a Liberty High School and sometimes based on programming like schools that have dual language programs sometimes their plan will have differences from other schools go ahead and click so our district level teams are structured into a we have a kind of the steering team which is the HST blueprint team focus on equity inclusion and access so that's everybody from Mike
and cabinet-level positions to represent representation from our affinity group of licensed staff of color Native American education program lead reps for our pack etc so that team meets twice a week and we are the team that makes her there's coherence and equity in everything that we do in our plan click please we have questions established for our equity lens making sure that our approach fits with HS D's equity policy and we have clear responsibility for Section four of that plan for August 15 please click and that team here's reports each week from for district leadership groups the communications and partnerships team led by Beth operations led by KC teaching and learning led by Dale and human resources and business led by kana and Michelle and coincidentally as we coordinate with the other the big five
districts across the state our working groups are in these same categories including a team that's focused on equity and coherence which is our blueprint team so level of like folks and colleagues across districts are making sure that in these components from transportation to classrooms our districts look more alike than different please click so this is a breakout I know that board members you have this slide deck this just shows organizational charts under each of the categories and which things those teams will need to address and those leaders um including Jordan who's in multiple sections are orchestrating a series of workgroups so that we can answer each part of the blueprint and work together please click I was gonna ask you Travis about that break down I just wanted to ask about the technology piece and
if that fits into one of those categories it does it it fits in actually all of them to some extent but in particular we have technology in built to the communications and the communication structures web-based we have in operations we have technology which is the category kind of both like our infrastructure and then in teaching and learning we have technology with more of a lens like I'm professional development for teachers family engagement so that kids have access as part of our distance learning plan that's Jordan and Olano and Megan and others are wrapped up in several working teams because technology is part of the whole deal I hope that answers your question Erica so the operations breakdown you can see a tree of projects underneath operations click Kelly please and then when you get into
the tree with teaching and learning there are many different areas of work this shows a breakdown of representatives who work on our elementary plan with Fran please click secondary plan with Dale and Audria please click and then you'll see real specific things called out in the guidance around response to outbreak and short term closures if there were kovat infections in the school for example family engagement technology mental social and emotional health and the leaders marked next to those also BD plan for teachers and for families please click so that's the org chart underneath Dale as she reports back to the blueprint team and many of us are involved in these component pieces please click file team is the human resources and business area negotiating contracts risk management fiscal considerations and our calendar for next year
please click so at the school level principals have been part of this organizational structure as they gather their school level teams for a couple different purposes for communication and transparency but also that feedback loop on the district plan and as translates to the school level what are the nuances at our school how are we going to implement this plan and how do we have our blueprint ready so that everybody knows how a school will work in the fall at our elementary school or in our high school please click so Elementary teams are gathering these folks to be stakeholders in their process please click secondary schools have similar but you know nuances like advising and graduation and on track miss of ninth graders and tenth graders that work continues in this plan click please so this
is a timeline that was as a week ago when I gave you guys this PowerPoint and this has been updated since but I'm gonna go through it so you can see the scope of work in what is going to be a what should take a year and a half or two years to plan we're gonna plan in about a month so this is how it's gonna work briefly od is gonna give us updates to the guidance in versions 2.0 or 2.5 or 3.1 as we go through the summer so we need to be ready to respond to that please click and then internally we have draft dates for when principals get their workbooks and are able to do their staffing but again that's contingent upon the legislature and when we understand our funding picture please
click so this last week we oriented our administrators we established a website we came up with structures and a calendar for leadership we assembled our teams and we don't do hot news over the summer but we are gonna be communicating out via email and our website please click this week we got into our rhythm each day each Monday we meet in cabinet and when we does the HSD blueprint team on Tuesdays each of the leadership core groups meets at 8 9 10 11 o'clock so that they don't overlap and they can go to each other's planning meetings and we have school level meetings in the afternoons let what principals are doing is orienting themselves and their teams to the scope of this work and looking at their floor plans and their site maps as a
first step they'll get tasks each week and be in sync with each other then on Wednesdays we have a number of working groups meeting from that org chart that you saw and Thursday's we wrap up the week with the HSD blueprint team again to hear reports and apply our equity lens and make sure that our plan is coherent we'll get hot news ish updates out to stakeholders and a school board update will happen this week at this time please click there will be no meetings next week for the leadership groups please click and then we get back in the following week to this rhythm of the Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday with different tasks to do each week please click and this is the boring part that you don't need to read all the details just
know that each week we have assignments please click please click keep going and then structurally this is the genius of Olano Childebert oh who now makes us online workspaces for almost everything we do will have an accountability structure where each chapter of or each section of the blueprint will have a point person reporting back and giving updates and the board you'll have access to our a template that looks blue and ODI ish like this on our external facing website with weekly updates in each of the sections one through eight and you'll be able to feel like you understand what progress we're making the progress will be slow at first because the big work has to happen among the big five districts and with the Oregon Department of Education and then school based work and details
will come out later in July our our hope is that we'll be able to do at the end of July is pivot toward communicating with our community about what's happening so that families can get ready for school in the fall in the middle of July we'll have a real robust set of opportunities to get stakeholder feedback and we have tons of stakeholders involved right now in the process of the school based and at the district based level so despite the fact that the plans will need to shift and will need to react and create iterations we hope that this structure will keep us tight with each other community and flowing and updates going across function areas so that we can keep each other in mind and make sure the plan has coherence again with equity
at the foundation of it so I'm happy to answer questions about this or any other aspect of what's going on with the blueprint you're gonna have questions right now I just wanted to confirm that you're what you're telling like when we have a lot of community members that are asking when will we know what the plan is is first we need to get through this kind of legislative process find out what that looks like the big five districts kind of meet and talk and in July is when they can go to our website and find the information and be updated on a weekly basis or yeah the plan is to it and this may shift because of the tightness of the timeline our plan is to have a template that has each section each of
the eight sections of the blueprint and weekly updates posted within that graphic and so you'll be able to see that starting now you can see the template it just doesn't have anything populated other it's then it says we're forming leadership teams for the week of June 15th hoping to have a more detailed update after Thursday afternoons blueprint team meeting okay thank you oh you have a question from mark lisa and i thanks in my other just wasn't related to questions you since just mentioned it I wouldn't expect budgetary clarity that soon it's not really coming up in this special session tomorrow so it's not what we want to hear but I'm just trying to tell you the truth aren't a mystic earmark that's so two questions that I guess two and a half with the
academic calendar ending for our license staff what can you tell me a little bit or explain how we're gonna keep the voice of teachers engaged in this plan yeah our principals and our district leaders are offering extended contract for folks who are interested in participating we've recruited teams excellent okay thanks the set the one-and-a-half question is do we expect considerable variability between our schools the plan for our schools like you sort of mentioned you know readville looks very different than Gotama for example and then sort of with that related if we are managing hot spots or outbreaks that are localized to a school do we expect that to just impact that school or do we expect the impacts to be district-wide you know I couldn't speak on behalf of the local Health Authority and what
they would ask us to do but the the plan explicitly calls out that we each school and each district needs to have a specific short-term closure plan which they say should span 14 to 28 days what that leads me to believe is the expectation would be that a particular school community could be closed for a short period of time and then have an re-entry plan while all other business happened as usual and then your first question that's one of the reasons that we want to look similar across our own district but across other districts as well we get a lot of parent feedback that you know my students go to school in Hillsborough but I live or know I work some other place and the work schedule is going to adapt to how the school
is so if once districts do in one week off one week on and another districts do in a day and B day how am I gonna reconcile my work life with my school life and all that so we've made a pact as the large districts to to create continuity so that we can we can look similar and that's going to have an impact about how families live their lives but it also will have an impact like you mentioned on closure and safety awesome thank you I do not envy the task you have in front but you have my complete trust thank you much thank you okay I have a couple questions and a couple comments my first question I'm sorry to react Chua answered it and I really I think we want to inquiring minds
want to know when do we expect to have a clear plan finalized for what the fall will look like based on what Oh de is releasing in our work with the other districts are we thinking mid-august or like something concrete like that would be super helpful that's a good question yeah I can pretty much guarantee unless they shift the guidance that we will need a clear plan by August 15th and that's that's due to the Oregon Department of Education the board has a retreat on the 7th and we hope to have the plan to you at that time and with updates and with the health authorities creating clarity on at least the plan and our timeline right now ends at about the beginning of August I can tell you though like Mark was alluding to
that part of this conversation is out of our control when it comes to knowing the timeline for funding and staffing and so right up until the point we figure out what resources we have and which plan matches those resources we're gonna be creating contingencies and we're gonna be looking at different models and we're gonna get feedback on those models and they'll be well vetted but then there will be a moment of reality when we know what we're what we're doing with staffing and how to run our schools and so again I've been pleading with everyone please understand that there will be places to be engaged in informed but we won't have clarity and certainty until a pretty late date thank you and then my other comments are more feedback about what the plan might look
like and some things that I know that you all are considering that just to to echo that from the board perspective as a parent of younger kids elementary school-aged kids who are not legally allowed to stay home alone I am very concerned about what the return to school is going to look like in the fall when other things in the community are reopening and both parents in my we'll have to go out into the world and work full-time in person most likely one of us works in a school so if schools are all remote then that might be that's me that might be good but if not then everybody adult is gonna be gone and the kids may not be in school every single day all day and that creates some really serious challenges and
I know that that is you know is exponential throughout our community there are a lot of parents in that situation even right now but as more things reopen as we get into phase 2 and 3 that's going to be even more of a concern and so I just want to make sure that that is part of what we're considering I don't know if the solution is probably something better that I haven't thought of but something like secondary students are remote only we use that space to expand where elementary school kids may be go so they can all be in school safely or maybe it is asking families you know hey can you opt yourselves into remote only if that works for your family so we have more space for the people who can't do that
or something like that but um we have a significant chunk of kids who can't be by themselves and there isn't childcare and what are we gonna do about that so I just I just want to make sure that that's part of the consideration I hear you and I appreciate that many families are in the spot that you're describing and it challenges like that have a disproportionate impact on some families in our community that we want to protect against we also in addition to the ideas like the one you're describing about prioritizing younger students and opening up campuses in different ways we are we have a squad called the community partnerships and after-school programming team and so they're working on figuring out some solutions that might be countywide and some of them might be local for
a school-aged child care we noticed we have experience in our school aged care emergency facility for first responders and critical service providers from the spring and I think we've got some lessons learned and we understand how important that part of the work is to so those are early conversations because everyone is starting to realize what it means when September happens and if are in fact in school part-time and doing distance learning at other times so thank you for that I appreciate that hey Lisa and just uh for us to be aware of our time check we are running behind so we'll try to be succinct in our questions and answers so we have Andrew and then Jackie on deck um think you're I'm just a comment that I saw the website when it first came
out the blueprint website I'm super glad that we're being transparent she's the best RT except that we can be I imagine that the website will be updated whenever we get major updates in the plan which I'm super excited to hear about I know that I'll be doing this and I hope that the other outgoing and incoming student reps will do this as well in terms of just laying other students know about the website where it is because I imagine that's gonna have the most up-to-date information and I'm also glad that we have that schedule put in place in terms of when the blueprinting will meet and what will be discussed just so become as much communication within the departments as possible thank you Andy um I think Lisa already kind of touched on this is
about making if possible to group students by family as far as if they go depending on what the plan is right so that that the kids in the same family go to school on the same day if it ends up being a hybrid so and my other question is are there plans once once we have the blueprint and we know what we're going to do are there plans to do a dry run similar to what we did with the reunification drill at the stadium not with real kids but with maybe the public or parents or us or somebody to do a dry run to see what's working and maybe fix some bugs or some bumps in the road before we actually put it in place mm-hmm for the first part of your question yes there
is a conversation about keeping families intact and served together one of the easiest reasons to about that is that when you are facing restrictions on bus spacing and seating siblings can sit with each other on the bus for example and so that helps us get more students in a bus into school the second question we aren't doing we don't currently have a plan for like a fake school day but we will be running summer schools both our extended school year and our migrant summer programs we'll be running some in-person learning and we'll be implementing all the safety protocols that are required for summer school which are actually a little more stringent than fall but it'll help us practice things like health checks on buses things like who wears what types of personal protective equipment how
do we help students play and learn together it's physically distanced and so one of the reasons that we're excited to do summer school is because some students need our support on ramping into next year and the other reason is that it'll help us work out some of these kinks so our teams our facilities teams and our nurses are working to put together those plans way ahead of the fall because of the summer school necessity again I also do want to remind people we did do a care facility at century high school for the last couple of months so we've also learned how to take care of students and staff there thank you and then we also have just a clarification our retreat is on the fifth and then we have Danny and then a Tom
sorry thank you okay mine is sort of a clarifying question because I think I might have missed it so if we're doing if we're looking at possibly doing a hybrid model where some days or some students are online some days or some students are in the classroom my question would be is would that be one teacher for the in classroom or one teacher for the online and if so how are we going to sort of facilitate that teacher having enough time paid to prepare all those lessons and all that's that teacher having enough time like to both prepare those lessons and then also like still have time for themselves because I'm just I've been you know talking with teachers just it would the way that my life works out I live with the teacher teachers
are sort of in my area and I know that planning the online lessons has been taking if not the same amount but longer than doing the in classroom lessons and so if they're going to be planning in class in class lessons on top of that I just see that being a problem in the long run especially with us looking at operating on a budget deficit this year I hear you a great question and those bookless models that you described are in play and we don't have those details yet to offer but I can tell you that ideas like teams of teachers teaching and some being experts in digital and some being opportunities for in-person learning are on the table as well as the idea that a single teacher could serve you know half of students
online and half in-person the workload issues that you surface are real and the job of a teacher and a job of a counselor and a job of a instructional assistant are changing right now so one of the things we're doing is we have Jill and melody and Debbie in the conversation at the blueprint team just to provide that lens to on what is the working life of a teacher right now when it comes to serving a classroom of kids partly digitally and partly in person hopefully our plan is to create an what we're calling a robot a robust distance learning plan with opportunities to learn in person as those are possible so Danny your question is great I don't have an answer for what that model will look like get any along you had a
question yeah so because so distance learning became a thing like in the middle of a semester and like are we ever gonna learn the things we were supposed to learn during that time because I feel like if everything goes right and we have like a straight plan there's gonna be a gap especially for incoming freshmen and not only that but like just people who are gonna be taking higher classes as well if there's gonna be a gap of not knowing so are the teachers just gonna have to reteach everything or is there gonna be like a time period where we just redo everything from the year before yeah thank you nice to meet you by the way and welcome to the board and thanks for asking a question the we have instructional leaders right now
looking at standards I know not everyone's a fan of standards-based education in the common core but one real blessing in this era is that per grade level we have moved to teaching to standards state level standards and national standards and so we know what was missed and we know which students missed a significant amount of content and so going into next year what we're talking about is how to go back and the standards from say third-grade math or algebra and making sure that we accelerate students into learning next year scooping up what was missed revisiting that and making sure that we get through standards for the next year and so I think that's gonna have to do with some real creativity with our planning team and the way we build our curriculum maps for next
year sorry I kind of wanted to add on to that so what that effect graduation cuz like I know fer juniors this year they didn't take SATs or AC T's and not only that but like I know during the school year we take like work samples and it's required to graduate so what would that affect us of graduating you know I you know a lot of changes were made this spring to make sure that students graduated and that has to do with grading and credit accomplishment and all those things so those are state level questions right now and we're getting some clarity and some guidance on on what graduation requirements will be in what the flexibility is but with it with what's in our control we're gonna help every kid the finish line I don't
see us having students not have the support they need to graduate thank you all right everyone is there anything else on the kovat update Mike sorry I was struggling to unmute there no those were the two things that those are the two areas that we wanted to bring you up to speed okay thank you so our next item on our agenda I'm going to recess our board meeting and we are going to be entering into our budget hearing so the first item of business will be to conduct the budget hearing for the 2021 budget this is the final public hearing prior to boarded option of the budget document which the budget committee approved on May 12th this is a time for public testimony the board will have an opportunity for questions and comments during the
action item portion of the agenda any patron who wishes to speak should complete and intend to speak form located on the top of the HSC website and submitted to the executive assistant to the board Rose Ramon Ramon are at HST k12 are us is there any public testimony so there were two responses to the intent to speak link that was put out for the budget hearing specifically they aren't necessarily budget related but they also aren't long so I don't know if you want me to read them now or wait till the regular audience time so they're not tight to the budget but they're just general comments and I would move them to our regular audience time to make sure that they are captured there okay then you don't have any food the budget hearings all
right yeah thank you Beth so I'm declaring our budget hearing closed and we are adjourned hearing and rikka meaning our board meeting so now we have our audience time for our regular board meeting and I'm just gonna read our audience time audience participation statement sorry we just had a question pop-up and you said new board members need to vote on the consent agenda that's further down an arm yes you do but it's further down on our list okay our audience statement says public participation and board meetings is governed by policy BD D H visitors who wish to speak before the board must complete an intent to speak card available on the top of our website and provided to the existing executive assistant to the board of directors Rosamond comments concerning and publish it agenda item
are limited to its designated place on the agenda unless otherwise authorized by the board comments about non agenda items will be heard at this time speakers should state their name and is speaking for an organization the name of the organization a spokesperson should be designated to represent a group with a common purpose three minutes will be a lot for an individual speaker five minutes will be allowed for a visitor who speak on behalf of the group speakers may offer objective criticism of district operations and programs but public sessions the board will not hear comments regarding any individual district staff member commendations involving staff members should be sent to the superintendent channels for the board's review of legitimate complaints involving individuals include for policy KL public complaints if appropriate the board chair will connect the visitor
with an administrator to receive comments regarding personnel any hearing conducted before the board regarding personnel shall take place in an executive session the board thinks all visitors for their presence and appreciates the input of community members go ahead all right first we have fab Cisco and he says if you would like to address the board about a solution to disinfecting your schools we're reaching out local schools get back to school and he adds one address hey and second one is from Kiernan and Hoggard he is an HST parent and his question is how will the Hillsboro school district adapt to ensure students are able to have ample opportunity to explore military careers and college scholarships will they be given time to address just to give a little feedback there that's a question that comes up
periodically and Brooke is actually pretty adept at at providing an answer for that so why don't we forward that my email address to Brooke and she can respond with an answer there thank you Mike all right board members our next item on our agenda is our consent agenda and I'm looking for a motion I move that the Board of Directors accept their consent agenda I second so it has been moved by Adira and seconded by Lisa all those in favor please signify by saying aye in the chat with our Mark Watson Yadira Martina juice broth she and Kim Martin Granum Lisa Alan and myself the motion carries our next item on our agenda is reports and discussion and we have the budget committee vacancies with Michelle yes I just want to give a thank you
to both Christopher Clark and Michael Smith who were appointed to positions one and two back in 2017 they have fulfilled a three-year term on the budget committee and engaged in the orientation process all the way through hearing an adoption for those periods and I just want to thank them for that we are announcing the vacancies and we'll have applications out on the district website Dewback eligible applicants will submit their applications by September 8 2020 and then we will look or appointment in October just to note that our budget committee is aligned with other Committees of the board and we'll be looking for applicants that specifically reflect the diversity that we have on the students that we serve Thank You Michelle on the next item that we have in their reports and discussions is a community
curriculum Advisory Committee vacancies with Travis thank you parallel to what Michelle was describing we have seven folks continuing their terms in the CCAC and seven are up some of those folks will be reapplying by September 8th we had three students graduate and two students are continuing jasmine from Hill High and Eduardo from Hill has so we're looking for some students and we'll be recruiting some students as well from our other high schools we do a survey of each of the CCAC members we call it a self census where we look at demographic information and lenses that folks can bring to the CCAC we've done that for about four years now in an attempt to diversify our committee and make it represented the community community I'll share that data with the board in a raw form
in a board update but it has personally identifiable information in it in summary though the CCAC surface is the fact that they would like more and more student voice in the committee and that those voices have been important they'd also like community members with connections to underserved groups for example lgbtq+ communities communities of folks who may have experienced homelessness or know or serve families who experience homelessness or house lessness black Native American and Latin X family connected community members as well so continue please board members to recruit diverse neighbors to be a part of our CCAC Thank You Erica Thank You Travis let me see here our next item is our financial reports with Michelle Morrison Thank You Erica as usual we have my monthly board just business office update and just most notably I
just want to really thank staff and folks within the HR department for their a huge lift engaging in the work share process to kind of balance out our furlough days over this interim period and that's been a heavy lift and it's a complicated program and they've just done a terrific job on that so that's probably one of the biggest items on there I'm happy to answer any questions about the statistics ironically you can see that our incidents have dropped way off it's not going to impact our liability rates I already tried they're going to still continue to increase for next year also you can see our cash flow report is current through the end of May so not included in this cash flow are the June payrolls which include both three paychecks for each classified
and licensed staff will reflect the furlough day pay deductions so those are some things that we're waiting to see play out as we close out the fiscal year happy to answer any questions and I'm available at any time to discuss our financial position outside of board meetings as well Thank You Michele I don't see anybody coming to moving on to our next item which is our action items and the first one is to adopt their solutions to adopt the 2021 budget and appropriate the 2021 budget sorry and impose 2021 taxes and categorize the tax levy so I am looking for a motion I move that the Board of Directors adopt the resolutions to adopt the 2021 budget appropriate the 2021 budget and imposed 2021 taxes and categorized the levy as shown in the June 23rd

sorry I got a little excited I move that the Hillsboro School District Board of Directors approves the individual contract with the superintendent effective July 1st 2020 through June 30th 2023 second so it has been moved by Lisa and seconded by Shion is there any discussion okay there is a common problem Jackie Mike I just want to make sure everybody and I'm sure everybody already knows this that a school district is only as good and productive and transparent and only continues to grow with a great superintendent so thank you you accomplish all of that and more thank you Thank You Jackie I also just want to mention that this is a journey that were on and I am really happy to have Mike and Martin we've gotten really close in our vice chair and chair positions

approves the board meeting dates for the 2020 2021 school year second so has been moved by Jackie and seconded by Adira is there any discussion okay andrew has a comment and Mark has a question yeah I just wanted to say that I hope that this is planned around Lisa Allen's wedding anniversary trip I was initially planning not sure if that but I know at the first meeting Lisa decided to hold me accountable a little bit because I was on vacation even though I was able to a : so I'm I just want to make sure that this is all that Lisa was ok with the dates you're welcome Andrew for all of those lovely memories that you will take with you forever about how I give you a hard time anytime I have your back
and yes we did have to postpone our anniversary trip thank you for remembering and and we're gonna plan it around the board meeting date so don't worry don't worry you're not the only one she holds accountable so okay welcome to the club next question with mark if we're considering as part of our blueprint to hold classes or students and classrooms in the fall so we anticipate having any board meetings with humans in the room in the fall so we've held off making a recommendation on that and one of the things that that we're kind of hanging our hat on just a bit point in time is that the governor had activities until June 30 and so we really have been putting off that decision until we get greater clarity of where we are in our
public health situation so you know we we could do that we would have to obviously practice physical distancing we could you know we can make that optional it's I can tell you the last time we did the optional thing we had some in-person and some on in some online that was a struggle for us it's easier one way or the other so it'll go great so I would say we play it by ear a little bit we've it sounds like we're going to add one in July just a work session in July we probably should continue this format for that and then by mid July and early August I would assume that we will have greater clarity on to what our meeting options are going to be at that time yeah just before I'm not
acting one way or the other just periods if we're thinking about it yeah I was just gonna add Mike I think the other concern is also when we have our student reps as well with with what Michele shared today about that liability is we have to be careful of making sure we're protected and also that we have some protocol around there in regards to our retreat that we have coming up in August I just wanted to advocate that we find a space where we may be able to be more in an open area that's I cover it if we're outdoors it's a lot safer so I just wanted to point that out if I'm there's an opportunity for us to find the space I have an idea of some more that I'll let you know
applying forward any ideas that would be great I do understand that Mark Watson has a nice backyard but I don't know if that would be appropriate but yeah please send any ideas and we will pursue that okay thank you all right all those in favor please vote by signifying by or opposed nay on the chat please okay the I vote are Martin Branham Lisa Allen Mark Watson Yadira Martinez Cheyenne Kim Jackie's cross all right all right man we are just going through these really fast all right our next item on the agenda is to elect our chair and vice chair for our next year so you are receiving your packet the process the election process and just a reminder that denominations do not require a second so I will just open the floor for nominations
madam chair I'd like to nominate you Erica local board chair I saw your dear as I mute as well I think Hugh's gonna speak I was gonna make a nomination but Martin beat me to it I'm sorry Adira waiting for months to say that it couldn't wait so we're so if there are any other nominations okay now let's let's let's go to the vice chair and hold our nominations for Vice Chair and then we'll move to a formal merchant little chair and vice chair so are there any nominations for Vice Chair I would like to nominate Martin Granum for Vice Chair any other nominations okay so I'll need a motion to close nominations now that we have I move to ones the nominations for Ward and Vice Chair I mean chair in my scare positions
second if you need one so has been moved by a deer in seconded by marks nominations are close to be signified by a voting aye the eyes are 'dear martinez Jackie's frost mark watson Lisa Allen she and Kim and Martin Granum myself the motion carries so now we are proceeding to vote on the nominees so I am looking for emotion do they guide you do do they have to be separate movements like do we have to make one motion for chair and then one with gentle Reister welcome to do bro can you clarify that road and we do it everyone or do we have to do two different ones two different ones so um I moved to a point Erica Lopez as chair of the hill Grove Road I'm trying to second it second heaters
motions but my my friends being crazy sorry okay so it has been moved by Adira and seconded by Lisa is there any discussion yeah sorry I put my question working but uh so are we doing this right Rose do we look cuz if it were there are two people running we would vote there's only one do we just make the motions for that person or do you vote we're gonna make a motion to elect Erica a motion to elect so but if we had two candidates we would make a motion for each of them and then vote okay okay any other discussion okay seeing none please signify by voting aye or nay in our chat the eyes are Martin grana Mark Watson Indira Martinez Lisa Allen Shyam Kim Jackie's broth and myself the motion carries
oh thank you all and now I'm looking for a motion or our Vice Chair nomination or appointment I moved to a point Martin granted to the position of vice chair of the Hillsborough School Board second so it has been moved by mark and seconded by Sheehan is there any discussion seeing none please signify by avoiding iron yes or no on our chat thank you baby eyes re good Jerry Martinez Lisa Alan mark Watson Jackie's Fras she and Kim Martin Branham and myself the motion carries thank you everyone okay our next item on our agenda is our policies first reading with Mike all right back to policies I know we're finished too big a review and we made it through all of them but in the time that elapsed as we were doing that there of
course are other policies that are needing updating so what you're going to see here are the policies that we're recommending for 30-day review and we can you can see what they are there and there's information I'm attached I can tell you that policies in a section a and B those are minor changes basically words here and there as well as legal references no substantial content change whatsoever there Michelle do you want to say just a few words about yours I do yeah this is a policy that actually requires annual action by statute so this one's gonna come up every year for you guys to take a peek at an approve related to the capital project funds that we have in the end that we're investing one of the minor well the minor change that we
made as to the actual language that doesn't change whether or not it needs to be reviewed every year is that the local government investment pool which is where we it's like our district savings account we're required to keep our funds there anything in surplus can be invested according to this policy but there's a limit to the amount that district can have in their accounts with a local government investment pool and what we've done is a change to the policy language to allow us to align with that amount as it changes every year so we took it from the static dollar amount that was in the policy before and just changed it to align with the index as it changes every year so that that part won't have to be changed but this policy will still
continue to come up annually from you Mike would it be okay if I introduced trip to make a few statements about her policy also please so the Addie's Act requires district action to adopt a policy but also requires a plan and Brooke Nova and her incredible team have created a plan for us and I wanted the books would be aware of that along with the policy and then be able to ask Brooke and her team review period if you would like to do so so take it away good evening everyone yeah I just want to provide a brief overview of Senate bill 52 and it did pass in legislation in 2019 and by beginning of 20 2021 we must have a policy and a comprehensive plan in place luckily for us we have a comprehensive
plan so gave us a time to review and enhance our plan looking at student suicide intervention prevention intervention and postvention so with a team of both counseling professionals and health educator professionals we began this process six months ago to review our plan and to make those enhancements and we also have worked in community partnership with the Department for Human Services with Washington County lines for life and then also we've been working with Washington County School District leaders on our plan working in partnership of how do we engage our community partners and in family outreach in community partnership because we know that we're going into a time where this is more important than ever to look at suus to look at suicide intervention and prevention in terms of student mental health and emotional support so that's
been a great process in cross agency but also cross collaboration with other school district leaders as well when you look at the recommended policy and that's before you I just want to take the recommendations of OSP a policy that's what is in front of you and looked at each bullet to make sure that our comprehensive plan meets on the communication the training and the education of each bullet that is put together in a Google site that is internally shared with every HST employee as well as we have looked at external communication on our HSD website to ensure that we're meeting those bolded policy action items as well so I you know I really encourage if you have any questions as you go through the policy feel free to reach out to me I mean I
just I really look forward to answering your questions and also more the comprehensive work of mental and behavioral and emotional health support and outreach that is more crucial than ever going into next year and just just to add a little bit to that and we have added Brooke to the retreat agenda to talk about the mental health work that we're doing as we begin to welcome students back that's that significant work that we've been mindful of for the last several months and just wanted the board to be aware of that work in a more in-depth way so she will be joining us for the board retreat as well thank you thank you my thinking but we'll look forward to that we have a comment or question with your deira I have just it's like a
comment question maybe regarding the volunteer policy and so for me I just want to maybe know a little bit more about like the administrative process I don't have a real problem with the policy itself but when we allow volunteers into our schools is there a vetting that takes place regarding especially our dii values of the district so making sure that the volunteers that come into our school are on on board with those values so we don't like inadvertently expose our kids to like biases and prejudices you know by by others yes I'm happy to speak up a little bit about that and your question I think part of it is that you know we have these policies in place for volunteers because we want to create inclusive practices to promote opportunities for our volunteers and
should be a part of that but we are always refining and fine-tuning those pieces and they go through a process as they work through an online application to be a part of the volunteer to volunteer in our schools and so in terms of some of those pieces so that may be done at the building level with the administrator and potentially through a work with the teacher as well it just depends on the avenue of volunteering that takes place within the building again just a follow-up to that Kahn I'm wondering if in that process of you know the online process or application there could be a statement or a commitment that our volunteers also sign on to uphold those values is there some way I guess to we if we state that for our volunteers so
that everybody gets it regardless of what space they're in in our district I can help with that as well that would be an easy thing for us to probably not only add to the volunteer handbook but also to ask for tech services to add as a checkbox when people are in filling out their volunteer application that'd be great thank you yeah I think that's a that's a good way to address the issue that Udyr is bringing up we obviously are limited in the amount of and type of background questions that we could ask about beliefs and that kind of thing but we can state our values and we can get a commitment that those values will be upheld so that's I think that's a good way of getting at that thank you does anybody have
any other questions on our policy okay so we are moving to our next item on our agenda which is hcu and hdhe a reports I can go ahead if you want um we've this I'm WH Cu the bargaining officer I'm taking Melody's place tonight due to she's on vacation lucky her anyway things kind of slowed down a little bit in our office we do still have quite a bit of 12-month employees that we're dealing with certain things but all in all it's kind of nice to and I think we we also understand you know the layoffs may be necessary coming forward but we hope that they're not as bad as we as we first thought and we hope that you know that that we will hopefully we'll go somewhat unscathed but you know it just
kind of depends on that budget but anyway and I want to acknowledge including us in the the blueprint plan we appreciate that and definitely look forward to getting some feedback from firm members as well as even you know people in our community so thank you god Jill hi everyone Jill go away and nice to see everyone this evening and I see some of you are outside like I am so that's nice to be outside I just wanted to say yes I'm very happy about being part of the blueprint we did meet on Monday we'll meet again on Thursday I think it's really important that both hcu and HEA have a seat at the table to share the perspective of in the lens of the teachers and what their concerns are as we try to navigate
what the fall is going to look like I can share with you that some of the teachers that are teaching will be teaching k5 or believe that they'll be teaching K through five or concerned about the governor and the requirement about potentially students at that age that younger age is not being required to have a mask on in the brick-and-mortar setting and so I've had a lot of teachers reach out with that concern and not worry but I I'm I know we have a lot to do and I'm looking forward to rolling up our sleeves and working together to address all of the needs of the of the educators I do want to talk a little bit and recognize that you know that LGBTQ this is June and it's a time for us to recognize
both you know Juneteenth that just happened but also LGBTQ and recognize that this month is Pride Month and while June is Pride Month and an opportunity for us to recognize the impact of LGBT few people have had on the world you know LGBTQ history is is us history and really every month is an excellent time for us to talk about the struggles and just focus on equity and justice for all and so I really appreciate you dear and Erika just talking a little bit about values and how important that is that we have a voice and we say what we're it's on our mind and and what we need and what we feel so we can support and represent all of our teachers and all of our students and all of our community and I
just want to say thank you for everything for all your guy is hard work and I hope you guys get a little bit of a break here in the next few weeks before you are back at it and I just appreciate everything that you're working on towards equity and and I appreciate being part of that team thank you Jim our next item is discussion time and so now we will have you let our student reps go first so let's start with Maria this time for one last last freezing can't hear me my computer is lightning yes we hear you oh my gosh my last discussion time um okay so I just I really want to say it general thank you a general Thank You 200 Hillsboro school districts because just up thank you thank you

foeman who has since retired from Evergreen and Bob be shocked from Glencoe they've been two of my English teachers and they have both really sparked the passion me for creating for literature those who are really the reason why I'm planning on majoring in creative writing at Winfield and I guess if a thing if I do one last thank you would be to my phone numbers of the Holy Trinity Maria and Danny know and I would rather serve as a student rep to the board with we've definitely become sort of a family with ourselves and I definitely loved hanging out with the two of them and having our I won't say Colts because that would be going a little bit extreme but it's been fun being able to discuss school happenings with the two of them
I guess with that I'll definitely continue to be participating in local government when I'm able to I'll be in McMinnville for college but my guess my address will still be in Hillsboro and also it'll be exciting I think I'll be able to vote in the school board election in 2021 so that I'll be exciting miss ball is letting my other students are the other students I want to know who I'm sort of lean towards so I'm voting for my views on education with respect to the upcoming board election so with that thanks again thanks everyone who has made this trip overall unforgettable and I wouldn't change a thing yeah thank you Andrew and I just want to say I think every time you've had something written prepared for our board it's always been wonderful so
I look forward to seeing what else you produce Maxon add just a clarification that rosamond became our our executive assistant to the Board of Directors this year after we had a retirement and I completely agree that she is best for this job when we are so happy and that she's here supporting us and also you're gonna have like first-hand knowledge of what questions to ask of potential candidates so that would be great and to see you on the other side and now that have all this inside information and lastly but not least for sure is Danny eczema perfect so unlike my other two student representatives this is not my last year with this with the HST you guys still have me for one more year so don't here to make some trouble uh this has
been probably the most unique experience that I've ever had I've had the pleasure to do a lot of different things in the local politics arena but this has definitely been a completely new experience and something that I'll cherish it has opened my eyes to so many different worldviews so many different things within my own community that I hadn't noticed um I want to thank all the school board members for always being there for me to ask questions and pester and always be on and learning all sorts of new things I want to thank Mike fros being there for like my emails like hey I read blah blah blah what's going on with that and him always being there to answer my questions I want to thank groves for always being there to help make sure
like I always knew what was going on and keeping me sort of sort of in line with everything and then I want to give an extra special thanks to Brooke who I can see on screen right there as some of you may know something you might not I interned at the School District my freshman year and my mentor at the school district was Brooke Nova she was she gave me all my little assignments everything to do and she definitely set me on the path to like learning more about how the school district ran I couldn't do without you Brooke so I see you um I also want to thank my two student representatives that I was here with because honestly they're some of the to most entertaining people I've ever met and they both taught
me so much I want to thank I think Maria you can see I have my my mason jar right here with my drinking and my reusable straw Maria never liked to use plastic she was always bringing for a little mason jars as you can see our reusable cups I remember when we went to the O SBA we drove up there and I took them through Dutch roads because that's where I work before us we could get our drinks I remember Maria like like me like no don't let them put grabbing a random jar out of her bag me like tell them to put it in this things I have to say is one get to know your fellow student reps there there are the only people out there that are gonna understand what you're going
through what stresses that are going on with being on the school board all that sort of stuff they're the only other students that are going to be able to completely understand what's going on there they're gonna understand all those things and they're just so important to being able to be successful on this as well as also understand that whoever comes to speak at the school board you might not like some of the things they say like I know that at the beginning was here I was having problems what we were doing the sex ed sort of being like at some of the things that people are saying you gotta understand where everybody's coming from everyone's to speak to the board for the most part is just concerned about the students just as concerned about the
students as you are and you guys might not have the same beliefs but it's important to remember where they're coming from because always look for what you have in common versus what you have different with somebody and then I think the final thing that I would say to the next round of student reps is just like have fun with it find what what makes this experience important to you and have the same exact values and the same exact things that matter to you that me and Maria and Andrew did you're gonna have something else that makes you you and that's what's gonna make you a good student representative to the board is what makes you an individual and then finally just like thank you guys so much for supporting me in this little adventure II
went on this year which we had our ups and downs this year sure was pretty crazy thank you thank you Danny okay next have our superintendents time all right thank you just a first of all thank you for your thoughtful discussions around the school resource officer topic we will get an additional session scheduled for July it is very likely that not all the cabinet members will be here during that time they are I'm hoping that they get out of town a little bit and well I don't know if they'll get out of town but they take some time off and so we will we will make sure that that those of us that are available will be on that and we'll be ready for a for a continued discussion on that Eric and Martin thank
you for your leadership over this past year it has been as your your leadership has been so competent and courageous and we've you've been in a situation where you've had to lead through some incredibly challenging times and in a challenging time with a highly engaged board who is is determined to make a difference in all the best ways and and that that's a positive thing and a challenging thing at the same time so your leadership is just hugely appreciated your passion and commitment and your thoughtfulness around every decision that you make or every discussion that we hold is it just it's awesome so really appreciate you guys and look forward to and continue to work with you I also want to welcome our new student reps looking forward to getting getting to know you we
are going you in the next couple days you will receive an email from Rose you'll get to know Rose pretty well you'll get to know all of us pretty well but you'll get an email from Rose and she will reach out and we will schedule a group onboarding session and there's some information that I'll go over with you and we'll invite Erica if she's available as well and we'll invite Martin if he's available Rose will join us and we'll go through just just a notebook of information and help you understand what the expectations are and responsibilities and and we'll get you up to speed and get you ready to go so welcome welcome and we're looking forward to getting to know you and finally I J I want to thank just our outgoing student reps
to the board I love that you gave yourselves a name during that first meeting that was it the holy terrors is that what I want Holy Trinity and love that that you guys had named yourself and you know when I when I think back about everything that we've talked about this year or all the decisions that have been made I mean it was mentioned we started with sex ed and it was it was very those were some exciting meetings we we've had budget issues we've had textbook adoptions we've had pandemics we've had social issues and through it all you have always been an integral part of the discussion and part of our work and I think that the thing that I'm most is this social justice lens that you put on everything and it is
it is just a part of you and it is it's it's important to always have that voice in our work and to have it coming from young people and our students give me great hope for our future so you've been involved in a unique and challenging time and I love that Maria and Andrew as they graduate they're going to continue to be friendly rivals they're be going to schools in the same conference so just like old times and looking forward to everything that you accomplished on your journey thank Board of Directors time and I'll just go out the back way on my chat screen I'm so javi you'll go first okay I want to thank art cannot wait to see where our student reps go I mean you all three are well-spoken you're educated you
always ask the right questions you come from different backgrounds but we all came together and found like Vani said the common ground so I'm very proud of all three of you and how you have found your voices over the last year is is very impressive right now really is an incredibly difficult time right and I just want to take a minute to we all come from a different place in different spaces I truly believe that we all come from a place of respect and wanting to learn and wanting to grow and I just want to remind us all - we each need a little bit of grace once in a while and I just I think that that's just really important to remember so that's it can you hear me yes okay my Internet's decided
it's gonna hiccup in this moment so hopefully you can hear me the whole time I'll try to keep it short I just first want to say thank you so much I have so much gratitude for Dani Maria and Andrew thank you the three of you for giving us so much of your time over this last year and dedicating yourself to this work it was truly a pleasure to work with each of you um I had so much fun hanging out with you when you were doing the OSD a conference in the fall and I've always found your contributions to be very meaningful and I'm so proud that you are part of our board and I can't wait to see what you do going forward so I really have treasured this time with each of you
and I that you're amazing so thank you very much for that and I can't wait to get to know our three so bye guys and then I'm so excited for the new people yeah you can't wait to get to know you out with the old in with the new no I'm just I miss you you three so much but I am very excited to get to know our new three musketeers or whatever me and you shall um give yourselves it will be wonderful to find out so I I can't wait to see you in person again soon and I will also say I'm very heartbroken that I wasn't able to hand you your diploma holder Andrea Andrea and Huggy on stage and I hope you know that we were all there with you in spirit
and watched you livestream and cheered for you in our kitchens and um and so great job I'm being successful and good luck in the future and that was not very short so I'm all done now thank you Mark all right same things everybody else has been saying yeah the the three three of our student reps have been great I sort of love the unintended consequence of how you guys get to become friends and I think we saw that with Jessica and Samantha as well like they became friends in a way that they probably never would have so as we continue along this journey of figuring out what it means to have student representation on the board yeah that's a that's one of the things we couldn't anticipate I'm glad that it's worked out that way
that you know hopefully the friendships will continue a way to go Danny with the shout out for Brooke and Brooke I wonder if you could get a little closer I don't think we can see you so maybe go Deardon and academic year didn't end the way I think any of us anticipated so you know let as we figure things out I think we have the right folks and in Mike and the leadership team we had to figure it out you got all my confidence I do think you know we heard through everything we could have kept asking our questions for Alex and and as we continue that discussion I hope we have him back because I think there were a lot of questions we didn't get to and I think a lot of them are
maybe simple that we could just ask in an email form but I really think that it's important to discuss these in a public forum ask all those questions and I appreciate that you know he self-identified as biased towards a pro-police perspective and we need to have that and I am glad that he understands that that's his perspective and he's really the best resource we have to ask you know why we talked about Justin our what what why is it what was the reason the transition was made from wearing khakis and a polo shirt to a full uniform right so we haven't even gotten that piece of information yet so I think we definitely need to continue that conversation looking forward to the new student representatives coming on board I think I believe Rose has to
think so I think in our new format Lisa and I will be Devlin's mentor now so look forward to us reaching out to you as well so you have like the official onboarding and then we'll give you like the unofficial lowdown about what really goes on looking forward to working with you guys and Andrew Danni Maria please stop by any time you're in town thank you mark and just capture be Bowie with Jim Martin and some comments on here from Beth of the graduation video premieres on Friday night so you'll get email links to youtube and Jackie just expressed thank you for that as well as Brooke she hasn't figured out her screen proximity even though she's had this four and once it gets to get it don't worry it's good we like the up
close and personal and benefit also just commented that it's been way way more work than we anticipated for that the video and I can only imagine I've only tried to do like small clips and it's so long I cannot imagine how much or this is taking to compile but I know that we were committed to doing this work so back our next director is Martin thank you madam chair Debbie thanks for joining us Jill and Debbie it's always great to hear your voice and to see you join us even in this venue for a board meeting thank you very very much and Danny and Andrew and Maria it's been a pleasure I think the word that comes to mind for me is genuine you you each of you three were your genuine selves and we
got to to know you and and see you and sometimes that's hard to do in a group setting but we really did get to know you because you were very genuine and I have to say Andrew and Maria y'all look fabulous in your cap and Gallants absolutely stunning yeah to the HSD team I just want to say thank you it's not lost on me or think anybody who's really watching the tremendous work that you're doing behind the scenes to figure all this out you know on the timeline of the governor's pronouncements or Colt gill or all these people that you don't control or making announcements that just rock your world on a daily basis and you're rolling with the punches and keep an HSD on track and it's pretty amazing it's truly amazing Mike I
want to say thank you for signing on for another year you're an extraordinary leader and I've had the pleasure in my Air Force career of working with a lot of generals 1 2 3 4 stars and you'd been a great general Mike if you'd have chosen to to lead in that way I really appreciate your leadership and your inclusive um to my colleagues aw thank you very very much for appointing me in this capacity I'll do everything I can to to serve well and lastly to our new student reps have a good time find your voice I was great to hear you speaking out in this meeting and continue to contribute find your voice early and I know that's why you're here so you can contribute and and and add to the discussion so I
look forward to that thank you very much and next we have Shion hi everyone and when I was getting sworn in last year with the student reps I don't think I could have anticipated where or today and and just this whole journey that we've been on but I'm so grateful to have walked this journey with you all and might I thank you so much for your leadership I think that you are you are the exact person that we've needed to lead us through all of these times so thank you and the rest of the cabinet and all of our colleagues Danny Maria and Andrew it's been so fun getting to know you all and just seeing your guys's dynamic and the way you guys light up a room and light up a conversation has just
been such a delight and Maria and Andrew super excited for you guys now that you're graduated and you guys truly do give us hope for for what future generation is full so super excited for you guys um I do know that there are I think a couple of budget members who are still online so I just wanted to thank Michael Smith and Kevin Murphy who aren't who we're on the budget community thank you guys for your guys's tremendous time and effort and just your insight that you guys have put in it's not an easy task but we we sell devices commitment to serve our community in this capacity and then lastly I just want to welcome our three new student reps Ilhan Maya and Devlin we're super excited for for what this upcoming year has
you guys and and we know that to the three of you you guys have some big shoes to fill but I know that you guys will will absolutely add your own twist to it so we're super excited to work with you Thank You Shan and next week happy Adira I'll keep it really brief I just want to echo everything that on my fellow board member they're saying Andrew Danny and Maria it was great getting to know you guys and working with you guys I feel very you know as I talked to you guys as I talked to you know I have high school-aged kids to myself and their friends I think we're in really good hands and so it's not a goodbye it's a see you later and new student reps welcome and to the
shenanigans of the HSD board I'm sure we'll have lots of fun and yeah with that I will I will give it back to Erica thank you for my time I just want to say thank you to my fellow board members and trustee Martin and myself to keep guiding you and our district and then we look forward to the next year which is going to be more aware what's coming so we know that and we just need to prepare I also wanted to just say to our outgoing student rep that you make our board work more impactful and you make us just want to be here at a higher just hold ourselves at a higher standard in the best way seeing your faces every single time that we're in a board meeting is a constant reminder
of all the changes that we do or advocate for have a real-life impact on your lives so I just want to thank you for serving this program in the capacity that it does that you get real life experience and get real time with elected officials and with Mike in his position and normally there aren't a lot of programs that exist I can give you that and this is just such a great opportunity for you to build on whatever endeavors you have in the future and I know that we will see you again later back in our community and also just a welcome to our new pseudo births this is gonna be an exciting time exciting year and depending on how we're able to do it in person online I'm sure that we'll be able to
build those relationships and keep the communication going and I also just want to thank Mike again for all your work and time you're staying on a couple years and also thank you to all of our pack parents that come in and present that was such an awesome experience to have today and it's difficult to do any a technology but I think that they did amazing and I'm so proud of them for just just showing us all the work that they're doing and also just that just helps us continue that dynamic and conversation and gets in that space here to interact with the board and the way that they never before so I think our board members from making that space happen and I'm sure I'm forgetting something oh the other thing actually I just wanted
to mention to our board members and this is something that is going on on the background in my role as your OSB a board member there's a lot of changes I think that are happening and also a lot of things that really tough conversation Association and one of the things as you'll probably be seeing more is the statement upholding our board elected officials and board members accountable as well or supporting DNI violence and also all students in our districts and it's challenging and the more I think we get into the political side of things coming up with election and things are gonna be happening just a heads up that there's more I think it's gonna be more incidents where there might be some boards that are not behaving in the way our board members elected
officials and almost ba instructing undocumented and a communication out to ensure that districts are having those conversations with their elected officials and holding each other accountable for ensuring that we don't bring any more harm or trauma to our communities of color so I came Louis is as working on and I just wanted to share that with you and with that that's all I have so I look forward to our next work session and we continued the conversation regarding our SRO and get more information and opportunity to speak with Alex so I thank you all for your time and our board meeting is adjourned thank you thanks everybody bye you
