[clears throat] It is 6 o' everyone. Uh so we will go ahead and get your started alliance [clears throat] to the flag of Americice for all. >> [clears throat] >> here. Jeremy >> here. >> Samantha, Ruby >> here. >> All right. Thanks, Jen. And then we will move on to the approval of the consent agenda. Is there a motion to approve this consent agenda? Motion to approve agenda. >> Is there a second? >> Second. >> All right. This is properly. [clears throat] [laughter] All right. Is there any further discussion? Hearing none. I >> All right. Motion passes. We will then move uh into public input. Do we have any public >> uh there is no SHs leadership tonight in there's [clears throat] no public input. Okay, we welcome into admin reports. Uh, first up we
have >> good just update on the student report. Our leadership teacher students at conference this week the national conference that is so that she organized school. So unfortunately that was not. So um for my report um to give you a little bit of an update on our beloved person electronic device um policy [clears throat] um it's from all the reports I'm getting from the teachers and and the data we collect um it's going very very well. Um teachers have seen a significant reduction in arguments in conversations with kids. We're still having to remind students on occasion, but they're Oh, sorry. It's pretty it's pretty it's not combative. So, that's nice. And the real 12 referrals regarding cell phone use. And that's not really regarding cell phone use. It's getting some information that follows not when
asked to put it away. So, so policies regressing. So, it's going very well. staff are really pleased with that. >> Now the next phase we have to do is transitioning over to the bell to bell from 7:30 to 3:30 that starts in January. So the group here and the district is working on that. Um we ran some while I was doing that we just ran discipline data and I'm just very pleased with our our discipline data. You can see I track from the start of the year through December one um for the for the last four years that I've been here and you can see that we have a significant reduction. The number of referrals that are being written by teachers and that also follows with the anecd are much more locked in and having
less misbehavior. um kids are just being nicer to each other and to their and to the staff. So that data reflects that as well. So that's nice thing to see. Um for November, we had our students of the month. We obviously fan thematically we gratitude month of Thanksgiving. So we wanted to recognize those students who uh staff notice are ones who um [snorts] are say thank you. please hold the door open and just kind of generally very politely demonstrate how thankful they are to be able to go to school every day. And so our freshman student was Jesse Henderson, our sophomore students Carter Bacon, our junior was say Mashi and our senior was Bergen. So we really appreciate them for showing their gratitude for sharing high school. Um, I don't know if you're able to
see it in the newspapers. The news register ran a article on it back in November on the 20th. Uh, Sher High School students went with four other high schools. I think it was four other Newberg. Oh, the Del School. They attended over at the Evergreen Event Center which is behind the museum. So, when they first got there, students were kind of disappointed. they weren't going to [clears throat] see the airport. Um, and what this was was it was a simulation. It was really simulation about running a manufacturing business and they they weren't we weren't teamed up high school. So, our students were grouped with other students those other high schools. So, at any one table we had two of our high school students. So, they were with anywhere from six to seven other high school
students from other high schools. And they were they were tasked with uh running a standard paddle board manufacturing company. And this was the first time that this simulation has been run with high school students area previously run by like business leaders and this actual business owners and their team building and decision making. So they were really excited to run with high school students. And it was our students went in not sure what to expect and by the end of the day they were jacked. They were they were so excited. They had such a blast. And it was it was a good six hours of decision making, collaboration, sitting and talking with each other. And the simulation was very inep. We even had like one of the events that happened was there was a a public
relations nightmare where it was a Tik Tok video that made me actually made an actual video. That was actually due to a person on the stand paddle board underneath I think he underneath the cell bridge on it and the paddle board broke in half snapping out and that of course was a viral video and it damaged his reputation students they had to respond accordingly how they would to hire communications manager communication plan so it was really fun. So, um, really want to thank this who was our one of our CD teachers who took the students. I was able to go and watch as well. So, but she did a great job getting those kids and it was a it was a good cross-section of our students. There students there who um really represented our high
school from from all backgrounds and experiences, not just our straight A students, our evaluators. students who uh maybe have never had this experience before. It was really meaningful. They were the ones who were most excited. So that was great. So it was great to have this news register there and um get our students. >> Cool. Yeah. >> And large part of that is due to our manufacturing. >> Yes. Yes. >> Yeah. It was a partnership with many organizations. So helpful. >> Yeah. [clears throat] >> Yeah. So that was we were we were one of the partners with actually part is connecting to Robert's CE. So although the building isn't in place yet programs are are running through grants that were awarded as part of that experience. It was really fun to do more actually now.
It's it's a piece of curriculum you can schools will be have opportunity to purchase now. It was fun when they were doing because the guy running simulation was the owner of the software and every once in a while his cell phone real quick on the screen and sent to his to his developers like we got a problem here realiz too. So looking forward to that part of our business curriculum and training for the teacher as well. I didn't know how to think about that kind of stuff. >> Yeah, there was decisions like Fed said like today we all know that you know dropped the interest rates had stuff like that economic indicators and kids have to be prepared for and respond to accordingly. So on [clears throat] that note the November's manufacturing month we had
a lot of schools come tour a bunch of different schools tour but that happens. Yeah. Yeah. So, is that something that's gonna happen? >> I hope so. Right now, we're working. He's working to do some of this work. He helped organize this. So, I can >> Yeah, there's some people there. They give tours all the time. >> Cool. We usually laser out some kind of [cough] something for all the kids to watch. We'd love to have you at our career fair too. >> So Mr. harder to reach out to organizer um with the cell phone issue. >> What's the what's that been like in the past? Are referrals common thing or >> I know you changed policy this year. So like how has that changed? Um I I did the the way we collected data
our discipline is sometimes hard to parse out the exact phone. So um that's a piece of data I have to dig a little deeper to get. I was just trying to give you a snapshot but I can give you some more. I can I can say that the data that we were able to pull match what people were saying like I said you ask them anecdotally how's it going? Oh my gosh it's so much better. And then when we pulled the data data supported that anecdotal but again referrals are one of those things they're they're tricky because sometimes teachers have more patience. They're very, you know, they're responsive like, you know, with a police officer, sometimes you get the ticket, sometimes you get a warning. >> So, yeah. So, that's not necessarily the most accurate,
but it does match. Says that there is a relationship there. >> That was actually part of my question, too, because referrals has been something that's been on my mind knowing I've had teachers tell me they've struggled with their referrals because they try to not have them sign off. Um, and so my question is, is it actually reflective of the referrals being given or are we withholding giving referrals in an attempt to build a relationship, which I understand is a good >> strategy, but like where's the balance and we have to accountable. >> Yeah, we have a really we have a really good system. So getting into the year, we share out a Google form that a teacher because sometimes it's really hard for the teacher to stop what they're doing. >> Yeah. >> So we
try to make it as seamless as possible. So in the old days paper you know carbon copies and all that stuff to try to track it. So we try to streamline it the most possible. So it's a Google form. It automatically gives a notification to myself and students Mr. B and then he's able to read that referral and basically he gets it a lot of times coming in at the same time the kids coming into the office. Um, and since we've gone to that electronic version, I'd say I think it's teachers have we we're trying to eliminate some of the barriers that teachers have to struggle with sometimes classroom management like they don't necessarily want to stop what they're doing. So trying to make it and then there's then Mr. and he gives the teacher
feedback about this is what was the response or you know whatever was how he dealt with it >> and he's done a great job this year again I would I would say staff have communicated as well they very much appreciate his timeliness and his response to those and kids actually respond and responding very well >> do you feel like that play into the biggest reason for lower number >> I would say so yeah I think that there's been some I think there's been some good interventions to to so and you know I can't be specific but I will tell you that there's a small percentage of students the large percentage of >> yeah [clears throat] >> do they split out by grade like that six >> yeah so I could see like did a whole
bunch the seniors graduate last year >> so so the spreadsheet would allow I want to go split out the information [snorts] data to find actually what's really worked really hard also with um some professional development around the intervention in the classroom because a lot of times what happens is you know I know when I was in the classroom, I teachers have to maintain their place as being the teacher. >> And so when you get into that one, when you get that challenge in front of a group of people, people are trying kids trying to hold their own, the teacher trying to hold their own. So one of the interact to step outside lowers that that relationship now have to stand around. Just simple things like that. >> And do the teachers in general feel that
the the corrective action, I guess, is >> Yeah. >> They feel like they're being supported. >> Yeah. and you know on Friday you know one of the on Friday staff we always have to do shout outs and there's a lot of conversation about that happening and I'm looking forward to that being that's that's part of one of the questions that's on our employee experience survey and it's done well in the past and we continue to do well teachers feel like we're being supported All right, up next we have Karen with [clears throat] not much to say. It's just kind of a very OB report heavy time and end of the fiscal year and then there's a bunch of like legislation things that are kicking in starting on January 1. So, it's making sure we capture
all those in our systems. Um the fund balance looks good [clears throat] for um the end of the year and when um Cy comes next month she'll you know go over this but I was happy to see it be above our 5% that we wanted And that's all I got. My only question um is so when you we have the line um the line expenses like this uh so we we have to ask you right for like names there's like a name I don't know what this is or is this column the description match would be where it tells us what it's for, right? >> Yes. >> But [laughter] it's also Yeah. It's like Yeah. Because [clears throat] there's not a lot of room to like put information in there. >> So, we just wanted
clarification. >> Yeah. like when it just has an FCS, you know, 2201-2 like that. >> Northwest Natural Gas. [laughter] It's our North Coast Natural, but some of those very well Emily will put in the POS and it'll have, you know, and so that's what, you know, okay, this is how I know which, you know, to pay this a bill with this line item. Okay. Any other questions for Karen? Can we talk about this here also here? Um we can it's will be an action item and basically it is saying the board is going to accept the awesome grant which is the um you know the matching funds for our bond [snorts] and this is part of this is part of the requirement and so we have a resolution that just says yes we will accept
that would just need to be approved. Okay. Any questions or comments for Okay, we'll just keep moving on. >> We have new and unfinished business. Uh first work session date. I believe we're choosing between two right now. you have um January 24th set in the book and that's Saturday. Um and then there's two dates for a potential work session. [clears throat] Um and that would be January 7th or January 14th. So those are Wednesdays. One is the first Wednesday of the month and the other one is the second Wednesday of the month. I believe we're supposed to discuss which will work the best for the whole group. Oh, yeah. The 21st month. [clears throat] >> Did we talk about this already? I already have the seventh in my calendar in month 14, but I wasn't
sure what I got wrong. >> I think she sent out because this is I think the work session you go is at the conference. >> Yes. Training materials, right? was to add one in because the 24th is that or is that the 16 there's so many >> I might be >> Yeah, I have one on the 24th showing >> that's the one that's already in the calendar. Yes. >> Stand Imagine if we had cell phones [laughter] to know what's coming up in the future, right? [laughter] >> You guys, I think we can discuss right now, right? >> Yes. >> Okay. Sounds like right now both. Yeah. >> So the motion would probably have to be specific as our start date or wait until finish. >> Okay. >> So that's the >> Okay. So, we kind
of have a potential motion for an action item later on. Next up, we have um the Barbara Robert C or she fire tower. Are there um any comments, questions? This [clears throat] is basically >> I think the report covers or I thought it did. >> It covers quite a bit. It' be nice to actually talk about some of these things or whoever would be nice to hear from them and see I would love to hear what their question is. [clears throat] >> I mean I know I know that says Sean had a meeting with CTGR I think either Monday or last week possibly regarding each of the blueprints and all the not blueprints but the out there and had a meeting. So, I'm sure you guys are all that might be something you guys think
wanted you guys to know, you know, >> exactly. just nice information. >> It looks nice. >> So, it's like if you're out in the community and someone says, "Yeah, here's >> I think it's something we need to think about is how we're presenting this to the community because it is kind of a shift from our original goal. Um, and I think [clears throat] that we're not careful in how we talk about it and present it, then it's going to look like a a mistrust on our part. Um, I don't know if that's something we should discuss probably later or as we solidify plans to really change it, but just something to keep in mind for just community. I honestly know we have to recently [laughter] >> Yeah. >> Okay. Well, we will get this information
back to morning and then figure um yeah, we'll probably have to do like an interview or something the tribe when we finalize everything. >> Yeah. January, February first. >> So maybe this could be added to like one of our work sessions to talk a little bit. Unless of course somebody [laughter] well then we will move into action items and the first one on our agenda is accepting um the awesome grant which is 25-06 resolution. Um, is there a motion to approve the resolution 25-06? >> I move to accept resolution 256 to accept the awesome >> second. >> Okay. Um, it's been properly moved and seconded. Um, any further discussion? Hearing none, we will move into a vote. Jen, can you call the vote? Iman Ruby >> I motion passes then the audit here you want
to just mention yes I had hoped that we would have the final audit documents so you guys could review them and then you don't have to approve the audit but you have to like accept it and so we should probably table this next month and then hope to answer questions. Is there a motion? >> I postpone. >> Okay. There's a motion to postpone until next meeting. >> Is there a second? >> Second. >> Jeremy second. Okay. It's been properly moved and seconded. Is there any further discussion? Hearing none, we'll move into Jen. >> I All right, motion passes and we will move on to our board calendar work session. So, we've just talked about now a motion for one or the other [clears throat] session for January 7. >> Okay, been seconded by R. Um
any further discussion? No. Hearing none, we'll move into a vote. Okay. >> All right. Motion passes. Thank you everyone. Um now we will move into topics for next meeting. >> I know. [laughter] >> [snorts] >> So if we if we were in session and talk about the meeting January 7th, uh will we have the topic accepting org? [clears throat] >> Yeah. at that [laughter] next one. >> Yeah. And they usually like basically an executive summary for the boards and everything. You also get a copy of [clears throat] the audience. Anything else you want to hear more about? Love to hear about like any progress we've made in organizing the I know we kind of talked about like a work beautifification day for our schools a little bit. I know that's down the road, but I'm
just curious what progress is being made and what things worked on. Okay. One of my old jobs, we had a clean up day. It was basically you came clean and just, you know, dug everything out. That would be a good thing. It would probably be like a Friday or something, you know, when staff still has to be here and it's like your office actually working in the building too outside. Um, I'd also like to add I think I'm assuming back next week I'd love to check back with him on how um field trip policies give us. [clears throat] Okay. Put a note on it and that might be something that maybe would talk about in policy maybe by him. Um but we'll make a note. Anything else? >> Facilities coming up. So I'd like to
kind of hear what they're working on. Know we had a couple last year. We just have to coordinate if he's here or not. >> Um the [clears throat] along the lines of the facilities they've been kind of the architects have been kind of touring around a lot of stuff. So maybe you can say what kind of things they found. Maybe any little surprises that they had noticed that they were glad they found. Great. Well, thanks everyone on those and then uh next we will move into four comments. [clears throat] I have a few but I will wait. I will go this way. Um Jamie >> um I So Monday was our second or if I missed one there. >> Yeah. Yeah. Monday. So, I figured I was a lot of just kind of going over
the charter. Just kind of not a lot going on yet. So, um it was it was everybody was there. Looks like they're all kind of excited and and moving and stuff like that, but there's just not a lot going on really is related to it for right now. on the website. We saw some samples of things that are popping up on the website, but again, not a lot of content yet because it's it's, you know, pictures, but more is coming. So, but they are making traction or getting traction moving forward on things. >> It's good. It seems like >> for me I just kind of like figure out we do a work session or just meeting something online for emergency prepar [clears throat] and I actually don't have a whole lot to say this time.
I'm glad to hear from you guys at the high school. I know there's been a lot going on. I haven't said too much since our last [clears throat] meeting. Um, but I do appreciate hearing the progress making especially behavior. Although I I'd love I'd love to see the progress. >> Yeah. No, I don't have any. >> Okay. No worries. All right. Well, I have some more comments. Uh, Yo Early Learning is supposed to be a community baby shower in Sheran. Normally, it's MLO Newburn. So, I'm really thrilled that it is in our community. Um, it'll be January 29th from 4 to 7 at the Bridge Learning Community Center. So, if you know any um expecting parents or new parents um and then that's kind of vague, right? And so, um but invite them to go
to that event. I think a huge blessing to our community. Um and then if you are free after this meeting, the share the tree of giving is need of volunteers to wrap gifts. This is happening tonight at the United Methodist Church. You can start it at 6:30. So they'll go until they are done, but the more volunteers they get um the faster they will be done. And they have a lot of family here. Um I want to see 40 I think she said between so yeah and then lastly um we also just wanted to share that we're sat here and the middle school and high school principal our hearts are with the community during this time and I believe that's all from me for board comments. Um, our next regular board meeting will be Wednesday,
January 21st at 6:00 p.m. And then, uh, there are a list of events. I hope to see you at one or all of the events. Um, and then that concludes our meeting at 6:35 p.m. Moving [clears throat] at an event on Sunday is the festival carol at the Trinity Lutheran Church. um share um they're an offshoot of festival Oregon which is actually my sister who's a chair redwood and um so they come and they're victorious it's like a fundraiser unit for festival but they come and they do it in honor of um our parents our mom and dad is school board comfortable at times. But anyway, the money that counties >> on Sunday. >> Okay. Well, if there is no other uh we are done with the meeting at 6:36 p.m. Thank you. >> That
was fast. Rest up in the
