001[clears throat] and flag salute. >> I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Reminder, statement of economic. Everyone is done. >> Every Have you checked in with everybody? >> I did. >> Oh, look at you. Okay. >> Because shake calls me and says, "Mine's done." And I'm like, >> and then Noah's the only one. >> We're all done. >> Okay, good. Thank you. >> Makes you smile. Look at that. sketchy for a while. But I got you questioning [laughter] a few things like what >> when you call in. Did you >> less is more? >> I called. >> Yeah. Calling is you'll I think we all called in. [laughter] >> Never mind.

002Budget vacancy applications appoint new members. So, as you know, we have a budget committee meeting at the end of this month, and we've been struggling kind of all year trying to get people to fill um three positions on that committee, and we have advertised absolutely everywhere. We've talked to people, we've handed applications out, and we ended up with one applicant that that came in. Um and so her uh application is in the packet and um after review you guys can make a motion uh to appoint her to that committee. [cough] [clears throat] She checked all the boxes manager. Any questions or a motion? >> I move to appoint Bethany Case to volunteer committee me committee member on the line committee. >> Been moved and seconded to appoint Bethany Case as a voluntary committee member of

003the well-minded budget. Discussion. All in favor say I. I. I. I. opposed. >> Motion passed. >> Superintendent evaluation that we looked at during the open work session. >> Yeah. And so, as I um explained in the work session, um to move to the new template that was presented instead of the OSBA one that's been moved in the used in the past, need to have you make um a motion and approve that so we can get that sent out and get going on the superintendent evaluation. >> I move to adopt the superintendent evaluation template as presented. David, >> it's been properly moved and seconded to adopt the superintendent evaluation template as presented. Discussion >> all in favor say I. >> I unanimous motion passes. Um HMK >> so calls here. Um, [clears throat] I guess to

004kind of kick it off, Paul continues to earn his money. [laughter] >> Um, >> save us money. Oh, >> well, yes. And you know, so I I think one of the things I would like to talk about it, but you know, one of the things I've appreciated being new to the construction process in Oregon, having him kind of behind the scenes really doing what needs to be done. You know, we we had a snag with the middle school parking lot. we've gotten to the point where that now um is moving forward and he's got some details. He's wrapping up on that. But um you know, I think that uh we continue to um yeah, get ready to go. We got a construction trailer out back. Fencing's going to start. Construction fencing is going to start

005on the 4th. will totally disrupt uh the whole flow of the high school, middle school, foot [clears throat] traffic for a month um and fence off half of the pave parking lot. Make everybody else in the community understand we're in the construction um for graduate. It'll we're going to have like a month of chaos. Um but we're prepared for it in that process. So I'll let Paul take it from there. >> Yeah. So um this would be our first month officially of having a general contract under contract. we have done process. So there's a lot of paperwork we have to do when we start a contract start a project every single product and material that we plan on using on site the contractor has to gather a similar package for those materials or those products

006and submit them to us for review. So that's huge huge huge administrative task. So that's What's been taken up majority of our time is just you know that discussion you know what materials are still available what are there manufacturers agreed to a substitution you know this is all part of um you know the pre preconstruction process we um we anticipate that you know continuing on for the next several months as we begin constru ing the high priority items now order early the things that have long time things that packages that will continue throughout construction it'll be a common common discussion so we had our very first owner architect contractor meeting actually had two now which coordination between the owner architect contractor just we discuss upcoming milestones and team sol if you as Mike said we

007have a a construction trailer here that will be um triple B's site office project as well as site fencing you'll see us start sort of taking some are construction over the summer schools also key things that we've been doing on the on the on the back end uh you know been working with district staff on key insurance requirements the district during construction as well as working with the city uh to uh meet their uh you know their requirements for some previously agreed projects that >> you just say middle school parking >> middle school parking was wasn't done as a part of it was not something we anticipated as a part of this project but we've pivoted um we do we have what we've done is we've taken from that middle school design incorporated into our

008contract scope of work cost that upgrade 40 the high 40,000 that has had some downream effects on the previously to require that now it has increased our overall scope. So what that has what that means is we have to have a um certified contract. >> So we're just we're just working through those hurdles and making sure we're all set and and going to meet those requirements the city has. I believe we are on the on the finishing stretch. I was out questions the city had. I think I hope you know that from the county is still being held by the city. So we do a few weeks to get this uh sorted. So, I'm not certainly not a concern of mine. I know they're literally just waiting for sign off. So, when they sign off,

009Lisa's got a check ready to go that we will print and I will get it to the county. previously reported that do that review stage at cost as opposed to that 5% fee did get that invoice from them that cost invoice of $25,000. The cost to perform that review was just shot at 3,000 instead of 2.5. >> It's a big difference. >> Big difference. [laughter] >> Thank you. >> It's an interesting It's been an interesting experience with my >> Awesome. Yeah, this this last OAC we were looking at like door colors and baseboard color and you know just making sure we have all those long lead items ready to go. Door levers, which ones were conflicting with the light in window and the door and all those details that can hang you up once you

010get going. So trying to check all the boxes as we can. >> Questions for Paul? >> Might be either one. What about graduation contingencies, parking? I mean, that space out there will probably blocked off by then. >> Yeah, we're going to try and get the buses moved uh so we can use everything. We'll take the bus downtown. >> Is there a way to park out on that little >> graduation? I don't know. Just a thought. I mean, it's it's one of those that we're going to be minus >> we're going to be minus probably about 30 parking spots [clears throat] uh grand total, but we'll open everything up we can and drive. Um, you know, it's it's going to be it's going to be, you know, we'll make sure we, you know, do a good

011job of making sure our our you know, we do have ADA both sides now. So, that helps process. So, we do have enough seating with new bleacher added last year. We should be able to get everybody up where they can see. Um, you know, if it rains, we go in the gym and um I don't have that So, it'll be super packed and a lot of people that travel. >> They've had umbrellas in the past, haven't they? Yeah. Outside. >> Our goal is to go do it outside. >> See, Angie remembers those days. >> Oh, yeah. So we we working with Megan Hampton um and they're seriously considering looking at significant part of the premium package. Um you know I also told her that if it was significant enough we can certainly look at recognizing

012Hampton's contribution and on the wall or something like that that allows that house respect Boise. Um have not heard back from them but we'll reach out to Justin Abbott. Is that right? last name is Nav. Um, but I've been emailing back and forth with that. And then we also put in for a grant for the culinary equipment, big equipment with the community fun. Um, and so that was with the help of of the food service folks out at the tribe, kind of talking with them what they saw would be a good setup for, you know, getting kids ready to go be a part of their team on the road. process. So if some or none of those or one of those or all of them hit, then that kind of helps us adjust our our

013budget. I challenged Paul as I shared when we were talking budget a little earlier. I challenged him to keep me on track to help at least a half a million dollars back on that just to kind of keep our budget alive. >> Yeah. But you know, and if we can, we can, you know, but I think that one of the things we'll have to question is weighing our long-term finances against scope creep, you know, because everybody's like, "Oh, we should do and we should do." And if you keep adding those, then you can burn up that budget. I think that we owe ourselves an opportunity to do our what we scoped well, then look at what we need moving forward on process. So, that's good. [snorts] >> Okay. All [clears throat] right. A little something

014on that little lumber thing. We got the kids in the know how to do pretty decent, I think. >> Mhm. >> So, maybe we could do it right in. >> Yeah. And we certainly could. >> We certainly >> Yeah. Yeah. Well, and uh you'll see in my report here in a minute another connection we made as well. So, Paul and be husband. >> We can let Paul go. And if you go in there in the staff room, there's a slice of pizza for you and some cake. >> Make sure you get some of that cake. >> Mandy John. >> It's got It's got Reese's pieces stuck to it. Unless somebody took the last one or two. >> Thanks, Paul. consent agenda. [clears throat and cough] >> I move to approve the consent agenda as presented.

015>> I second. >> Been moved and seconded to approve the consent agenda as presented. Discussion. All in favor agenda say I. >> I. >> Opposed. Motion pass. >> I said I >> under my breath. >> Yeah. >> Uh superintendent report. >> Sure. >> Real quick here. Um state testing began today. Uh so we have a lot of our high school kiddos already going in the language arts area. Um and and you know I want to give a shout out to our kids. I think the attitude towards state testing this year uh is much improved from last year. I think kids are are seeing it and taking it a little more serious. Um and I think a lot of that falls to our staff and and our middle school high school leadership and that. Um we

016hosted a welding competition last Saturday and we had a couple kids get bronze. I was talking to TJ, but it was was Friday, Saturday. Um, but we had kids competing in welding and and machining. We had car we had the carnival last month. I want to name any initials, but Avon won a couple prizes there. Um, she attended that. I think that's a cultural event that everybody should experience in this community. >> I think she was a ticket master or something. Yeah, there it was. It was like, you know, the ticket system. We'll have to change from made some notes on that. Mr. Hurl was pretty good at he goes that far. That's like 20 tickets or about um we continue to hire um looking at that assess assessment and accountability update. Um and that'll

017be in next month. I'll have pretty in-depth presentation there. Um, I will be in Sun River for uh what's called Pace Day. That's our our insurance provider. They do superintendents. They take us and give us the the best and brightest ways that we can get in trouble and how to mitigate that. Um, and that's also my final new superintendent cohort. I'm in year two of that, which I signed up for not as a new superintendent, but a new to Oregon superintendent, which has been great. Um, then I will I think be presenting at the Kos site um some things we're doing in the district. They've asked me to to maybe share those in the session. Um we talked about the weekly OAC's. Um we met with Darcy and John Margolan. Um and Darcy is Gracie

018Mercier's grandma. um and they are super excited about um some of the things we're doing uh with our CTE program in particular. John is a retired veterinarian um out of Nevada. Um and so they're looking to they they give money to us every year typically been channeled by what the grandkids wanted it to go to. Um now all their kids grandkids are gone out of here. Um and so they're looking to do some kind of different there and so met with them, but they're super excited about what's going on in in our career tech ed world. I sat through scholarship interviews. Um it was entertaining and our kids did really well and I sat on Sheridan and mine is was impressed with both groups. Um been attending a lot of spring events. We have track

019coming up this week, middle school and high school. I hit both of those. uh master scheduling has started and we're really looking to u make sure we are efficient in our scheduling and making sure that we don't have classes of like four and five and how can we use our talent differently to help our whole school pro uh you know we've talked about people got open periods can they be flowing down to the elementary and covering some things to free up uh some folks um construction update me comfort And we talked about fire science agreement. You'll see in here on your packet tonight. We I signed on basically saying we would help support that if we had kids interested in it. I can't answer questions when we get there. Um, and then, um, I threw

020this in here, but, um, I was alerted that the Sheridan board may want to have a meeting with this board around I guess this happens about every seven to 10 years about should we be one district as the world starts to kind of shrink. Um, I shared with Dory my concerns with that or thoughts around whatifs, like you just passed a bond and Sheridan, what does that say to your community? Um, you know, how does that work with your bond debt? You know, there's a ton of questions. Um, I rarely see it happen. It gets talked about quite a bit, but it takes a lot to even make that happen. So, I don't know if they'll come our way or not. Do you have another? So I I raised enough questions that think [clears throat]

021possibly answer all those then we might have a meeting but I'm not necessarily pro combining uh but there are some districts that are financially enough trouble fall city is one of them uh that may get combined with Dallas this year. They would be shuttering all city schools and busting those kids into Dallas. So, you know, there's some things going on around the world. And not to say that Sheridan's in that place, but you know, I think districts are looking at all the options to be more efficient. Um, and then, um, we appreciate your input, Lisa and I do, on our budget strategy. Um, and I think we shared some things that, um, will help drive how we perform. Um, our April enrollment, we're at 746 as a district. And when you look at our September

022number I showed you, told you I put that in there. We opened at 759. So we're down, you know, just a little over um a dozen kids in that. So that's pretty good. Um we'll be more curious when Sarah and Shana have kindergarten roundup because we don't know what's coming. Uh and I haven't heard anything out of the tribe on the charter school. uh typically they're supposed to report to me or the state is supposed to give me a call when they submit that application and uh haven't heard from the tribe or uh the state on that status yet. So, um, continue to kind of wait, see what impact that's going to have. And, um, Angie and I have been playing phone tag and I'll get her on my calendar because we need to talk

023about and and some of the programmatic pieces that aren't necessarily tied to that school, but may be impacted by that down the road when that charter if and does go into play. So, questions on any of that? It's kind of a lot busy time of year. Thank you. All right, Mr. Hurl. >> All right, here we go for the high school. I'll move over here so I can see my own slideshow. >> All right, so like Mr. Gas just mentioned, there's our current attendance. Um, compared to senior classes the last few years now as a high school in terms of enrollment, it's a competitive market out there. Um, our eighth grade class coming in is 68. So that kind of [clears throat] to boost boost our numbers moving attendance. This is what we still struggle

024with. Um, one thing that I think is going to help significantly moving forward is we just hired a new tap coordinator um with the help of Sarah and her team for the middle school and high school. I think Trinity is now this is the start of gosh week oh might be a month. Yeah. Um and she's trying to she's trying to two things at one. She's finished her masters in social work and working for us and gosh at one of those schools in McMill. So, we see her about two days a week [clears throat] currently, but she'll be full-time soon. And I think she'll um really help us with our attending already gone out on some home visits out at the reservation. Certain students out there that we need to get get here on a

025daily basis. All right. Um moving on. discipline the oranges this year and this is why I thought this was quite significant our numbers across the board are down significantly in terms of discipline um I don't know if that's due to entirely new administration um people in different roles different perspective on attending class and staying out of hallways and staying out of parking lots I mean I just think there's a number of issues as to why that discipline but is exciting for me to I don't have anything else to compare it to. We can continue to prove uh each and every semester. >> That's huge. >> Yeah. [clears throat] I mean, I I think it's a big difference. >> Huge difference. >> Yeah. >> The only thing I see was there no fights last year and

026we're at >> there were no fighting twos. Whatever makes it a fighting two because you have fighting one below it. >> Okay. Fight. Fighting two is what I was fighting. >> That's like martial arts. Oh, I don't know. [laughter] >> Well, I mean that's a matter of >> that's a new category maybe too, huh? >> I think it's if there was like this one young man got punched in the face at that point and then it ends with that then you can you know that's a fighting war level disciplinary action. Now level two fighting to gets to where I got punched in the face and I then retaliated. That's where we get from >> there's 20. >> Okay. >> All right. >> Never mind. >> Good. Um, now in terms of interventions, this is um

027how we currently use. Hope it sticks around. Um, this just breaks it down how much time our math students are spending practicing their skills practicing in a group setting or um going through various assessments. And that kind of depends on the teacher, depends, depends on the grade level as to how much time they're spending on that tool. And you can see we are really working heavily with the ninth grade and trying to catch them up in terms of their [clears throat] math skills. And as it's whittleled down, that's based upon how many students actually have [clears throat] senior math class. >> It's not just a matter of it's not just a matter of students not participating in ISL. It's just that by the time you reach your senior level, senior, you know, year requirements for

028graduation, a number of students not participating in the last class, which is kind of alarming. I wish we could continue to work on that as well. All right. Um, and you can see there's the goal that we set for weekly progress and our freshmen are hitting that target and we still need to uh work on improvement the other grade levels. Then you can I just I just uh chose two different grade levels to show you guys the progress that we've made since the fall. This is our current sophomore class and where they are quarter junior years kind of along the same pattern. So yes, we're making great and then you can see how we have a balance of skills. We're not just focusing on geometry. We're not just focusing on the fun trying to spread

029spread those continues to grow. >> Um biggest things with math is that um we're just trying to get them to buy into the program itself and targeted that I guess you say roughly 50 students and we're giving them more individualized assignments, individualized help, individualized work which I think will lead to the next slide. This is kind of a significant thing. This is with Mr. class started with 15 students with a very special math class, daily interventions, daily help, one-on-one attention. And now 10 of those 15 second semester algebra one. And of that original 15, all of a second section pilot brand new online program. They're going to be able to get all the way caught up in less than a year and be able to go into their next level. >> Yeah, it's great to

030see the work that Mr. Sh has done with that group of young. >> All right, then. This is just once again, but for ELA, I assume you guys know, we've talked and talked about it. We received the literacy grant. We are now hitting the very high rate across the board. We'll get into the various aspects there. You can just see where we are with our current reading levels. Yes, we still have a long way to go. Um is interesting to me that our writing's a little bit ahead of our reading. Um and that's kind of where Marcel has has chose where we're going to attack that. This just breaks it down the different things of literature, text, language, and writing. And this kind of continues to show how much we are engaging in. We're above

031the dotted line. We're good. We're building mastery. You can see anything in that light purple. Mastered is the dark purple. And then this is just extended learning time. So, anything you guys see in that upper um on the top is all work that these students are choosing to do at home. Also, they're not in the classroom. All right. >> Yeah. And then um this just shows you the number of teachers that are engaging in the activity. Why might you say why are we not at like a 100% of the teachers engaging? That's because not everybody teaches ELA. I know even though like pulls into his curriculum science. So that would be and you guys can see with our benchmarks and our growth there, anything with an upward trajectory show growth. We're growing in reading and

032writing. Um middle line is our over same holds true for our junior class road and then our seniors. Um and this a lot of this is attributed to Mrs. kid and her writing 121 and writing 12 class and that's where you see that big orange and overall there's comparing math how many are currently at grade level above grade level and the work that we still um and then one more time kind of back to literacy this is what we're hitting hard kind of fun um I don't know I don't think you guys have got to meet Marcel But she is she's taken this thing and ran with it. We just purchased my goodness I can't tell you maybe 2,800 books. Um it's significant. And now each and every student this summer will participate in a

033summer reading program. They all chose that the books they want to read and over conferences and this week they will receive their summer reading books take them home. They'll read them and they'll report back first week of school. And I think this is a major step in the right direction for for any school regardless of is the fact that I can now walk around the school and instead of seeing students like on their phones or on their Chromebooks, there's literally students reading books. And I mean, Evan can probably attest to this. You'll go into classrooms, students have books on their desk. Students are reading books in class. And I can and I can tell you from the when I first got here in August, that was not the case. And that's exciting for me to

034see being a big reader myself and know how much of an important role literacy plays. Um this has really added to I think just the overall culture of our school. I think it'll attribute to the success and the growth in our test starting what we started today. So this is this is huge for the school. Yes, there's been some grumblings. What do you mean I got to read over the summer? >> I'm going to transfer back to the old school do this. >> Yeah. One young man I'm just gonna go to AMD then I'm not going to read. Um, but I know it's all in good fun. Um, John and then be able to have those conversations because one of the >> one of the books was a book that I read, studied on mountain

035climbing and about a young man and his adventures across the world and like oh my goodness I was in Fairbanks, Alaska. I went to that I went out to where he lived where he passed away and so on and so forth. But even this like little thing has led to these great conversations students of things that I've done in my life related to a book that they're then going to read this summer. It's kind of cool to see that connection. This is just you guys are curious like what are they going to read choices which I think is great genres across levels. >> All of them or just >> No, no, they just had to choose one. We got to start small and then um this has been this was uh also this is Miss

036Kid Miss Coffey's idea. They have now no sorry kid Mrs. Gordon they started a book club and this has only been month and a half maybe month two >> months Evan's a part of it right? >> Yeah and you guys finished your first book did the big discussion and now you're on book two. Yeah. So to go from a school where you didn't see a book and now we have a book club. >> Yay. >> It's pretty cool. Um then I'm not going to say out of the blue, but Mrs. Coffee came to me with this great idea of bringing back the school newspaper and expanding our publications uh offerings. And so now we've had uh the first dog prints come out and it's it's really cool to see what these it's a very small

037group. It's Mrs. Coffee and three other students currently, but she's hoping to expand that next year with an eighth grade class combined with u high school as well. So it'll be a yearbook, school newspaper combined publications class offer fourth period um for 8th through 12. So, it should be great. I'm really excited to see what she's gonna do with that. >> Is that taking Stanbury had done a school paper for middle school? >> So, it's going to pull that those kind of all together into one. >> Yeah. And I haven't talked to Mrs. Coffee about trying to pull in yet [clears throat] under that umbrella because she typically does that with her sixth graders, >> but that's her way. Another thing I could look at. I just don't know how to get sixth graders in

038senior. Like it might just be this. We might have to offer a different section if we could. I think it'd be great. I know we're sending Mrs. Copy to a special training summer. It's going to cover all the school newspaper and uh your book that looks like all the different ways in which >> we put newspaper in the rotation. >> Yeah, we could do that too. um smile club are sign they are um working on a project currently and then this weekend on Saturday Mr. Schs and uh Mrs. No no no no Mr. Sag Miller will take u I think gosh how many students go >> we're going to have 12 high middle schools 20 and elementary 20 all in one big bus >> yeah so a large number will state >> [laughter] >> So,

039I'm glad they're going to Oregon State. And then we just competed, our high school students competed in a math competition. We didn't have any place in the top three in their divisions, but um talking to the students, the teachers, they said they're very excited about what they got to do and work on solving and they're excited to go back again next year for the math competition. um FFA and Mr. D's world. He has kind of put a bunch of things together. We're getting ready for this is what I can't I don't know especially with the parking lot being we're going to have tractor driving coming up. I'll make sure to avoid the parking lot during the mornings and afternoons. Um I believe the shed is almost done that they're working on [clears throat] finishing and

040getting up for sale and then they're going to start building our new ticket booth which will be kind of fun. Um and then greenhouse. I know that on May 8th and 9th we're going to have the big Mother's Day sale. Um gosh, there's a ton of them out in that green. It's pretty cool to see. All right. And then FFA um they are constantly different competitions. We just place fourth at the beginning uh public speech contest and we actually had a seventh grader who participates who also finished fourth in the knowledge test. And I know coming up we go country judging state competition all the way over in Ontario. >> Yeah, they're excited. That's during prom. >> Yeah. And that's during prom and then it's almost in Idaho. All kinds of fun things. Mr. D

041almost like wanted to stay in Idaho and wanted me to ask you guys because he's out of state and then I like okay let's stay in stay in Oregon. But that's coming up. And then of course everybody for the most part has um bought and has started to raise and take care of their u for projects for the state fairs which is exciting to see. Um I in fact am part of this with my son and I'm learning learning a lot about hogs I never knew. So I love it though. It's it's so much fun. All right moving on to athletics. Um, I know it's springtime, but we didn't get to this. Men's wrestling team finished fifth the state, second district. We had six state qualifiers. We had four state placers, two state champions. Uh,

042Landon was a runner up, the heavyweight, and then uh, Grayson wrestled all the way back, very proud of their efforts. He wrestled all the way back to third. Our women had two state qualifiers. Page finished fourth, losing to a young lady from Pendleton. And then really cool to see that they finished in the top 10 for the entire state of Oregon academically. Uh finishing seventh baseball now in the spring sports. Uh very excited that my brother took on coaching the high school team with a very young roster. He's still getting more and more players out by the day. Um so he's working on trying to develop their skills number one second. Uh softball. Uh the record now is five and six. That slide was when I had to submit this. They're up to five and

043six. They had a very tough preseason schedule. Now they've lost games. Gosh, you know, 16-2, 16 to four. Um >> Hill, they took only they what lost by two >> YC was two. Yeah, we currently our league's unreal. We have two four and five in our league right now >> in the state. in state and so it'll be fun to see them play style kind of see where we end up but it's fun to watch the girls are really competitive just it's it's it's fun I'm excited to see where we are at the end of the year with the track we have 36 students student athletes out track um Matthew Athetherton has some of the highest uh marks in the state longest jumps as well is kind of right there long Um, some of our

044other athletes are injuries and uh, and I think a lot of the athletes on the women's side are younger and still kind of in the growth and development stage in terms of track. They did get the privilege of going down to compete at the Oregon Relays at Haywood Field, which is always cool. Um, and I'm hoping that there'll be far more of them qualified for Hayward here next month. Uh, like I mentioned, state testing is started. Prom is in two weeks. Anybody has a board on a Saturday night wants to come shop with me. Um we'll be at the build grand ballroom. That'll be kind of fun. Um we're working on today we did the prom reveal. We uh introduce the court. It's kind of fun. And then after prom then it's all downhill and

045graduation will be here. at the football field and the last day student body will be on June 3rd. There's 35 days of school left. >> Crazy crazy to think about. >> I'm not part of the high school but kind of fun. Mr. Gas and I myself will go this week is an outdoor school start Wednesday. gas is going to go by on Wednesday, hang out with the sixth graders, and then uh I'm gonna go down Thursday. Still debating whether I take my sleeping bag and stay with them. Uh but I'm really excited to go down, spend the day, spend the night around the campfire, and then see what happens. Yeah, this Wednesday, >> don't take don't take your laptop or anything because there's no service up there. >> There might be a road that you

046back down. I did that before just luckily nobody was on the bus. I was just >> just [clears throat] talking about men's wrestling this weekend. Landon became a high school American. >> Oh, good for him. >> I know he was really working hard for that second. >> That's amazing. That's true. >> And the popularity of this old guy. Is that what they're calling it? >> Oh, the knucklehead. >> The knucklehead guys. And Angie's dad. Sean and Angie's dad was recognized that >> and I was he still has the thing at home and where they're handing it. Well, if you're supposed to keep it, not give it out to anybody. Evidently, Mariah told me there's four, and they all start with R. >> Ray Carpenter's dad, senior, and Rita Perry. >> Oh, >> and Renolino. I

047was like, wow. >> So, and that's making money for the program, too. So >> yeah, I think that that's what are >> I said about four to $5,000 per event, >> which is huge. That's great to watch. >> Yeah, >> I think we could sell the principal. >> Something to say. That'd be a main event. You'd have everybody here. >> I'll bet you we could come up with a belt for that. >> [laughter] >> You'd be surprised. >> Oh, Lisa. [clears throat] >> It be that Oregon Leac stuff coming back to get me. >> Angie, are you >> ready to rock and roll? All right, I always start with my little So, we opened a new classroom facility that's last week. So, another infant toddler classroom that brings us to seven classrooms on site of

04885 levels from the youngest is maybe like five, >> meaning empty classrooms. You still got >> We still have five. Um, but we'll be opening two more preschools in the fall. So, and that'sing the two that are operating at Shawash. So, that's another 24 kids there. So, we're well over. Um, so that's growing and the weight lists are growing. So, um, lots of little out there every day. And then, um, in terms of our K5 kids, to 12 kids. They just had great obviously we ran four day programming for them. We had about 60 field trips and program we had a good turnout. Kids had a really good time and activities. We had spring break camp for older kids. That would be two night overnight stay with 47 campers. our biggest turnout and it's kind

049of a point ever we headed up in education but a lot of the other travel wellness and prevention all health on running that camp um they're also launching their summer so we have roughly 60 positions for youth program that we hire throughout the track applications are And then uh let's see in terms of academics we have our academic coaches right now have roughly 60 students for K that's 141 K Um so we have about 60 that providing directive. We have 80 graders trainer school district and some remote kids. We have roughly 53 to 54 that are here. We're providing quite a bit of academic support that seems to be showing signed with advising services to multitude of kids. Uh and that is wider wider. In terms of other things, we have quite a bit of

050literacy grants um as well and literacy funding. We'll be operating a summer program as well at the library and we are also connected with CCLs through a regional library. comes a couple times a week as well. Doing a lot to try to support um we have a new social emotional learning specialist up here. She's also the mom of Iowa. So, um we're excited to have her on board. She of course is serving the whole department. So, made for school age kids education summit again reminder August 21st um not on everybody's calendar the admin day so the tribe brings together all the ads from our school we bring the ads all together and that'll be here in a couple weeks on April for everyone there. We have a tap visit coming up next week with the

051tap coordinator here this week. Uh and then we have roughly around 300 huge numbers part of that. Some part the vast majority biggest numbers. [clears throat] >> Wait, you forgot to talk about the new piece of furniture you brought us. >> The pod in the hall. >> Oh, yes. Fin. Yep. For the study, right? >> I looked at that and went, "This is going to go so wrong in so many ways." And it's been phenomenal. >> Oh, good. >> I mean, we had to position it where like we could put eyes on it. Kids are like, "Think we can put a curtain on this?" I'm like, "No, it's not a photo booth." But it's almost like a double-sided. Like you It's just the right size. You can't get four kids in there. You can only

052get two. You've seen four, but it's not. >> I'm sure you have. >> Um, but like, you know, it's got a whiteboard. So, are using it and sitting it sounded actually really cool. So >> well, you know, we always presume the worst, >> you know. >> So, no, it was super super fun and I think it added a cool element. So, thank you for that. >> Any other questions? I have no charter school updates. Charter school is under the education department. I think they're working through the application, but I don't any I'll get with you later this >> call you tomorrow. [laughter] >> All right. >> We appreciate you. >> Yeah. >> Thank you, >> Evan. >> All right. >> You get two minutes. Oh, [laughter] >> no. You're good. >> I know. >> Kidding.

053on by Mr. >> talk about the >> So, first off, over at the middle school, the middle school office secretary decided to pull a April Fool's prank on the entire school, but by transforming the middle school bulldogs into middle school squirrels. Basically, changing almost any bulldog or conference you could think of a squirrel or an acorn and getting this ball to just keep up. saying, "Oh, hey, we're not the squirrels. We're not the bold on this anymore." And they kept it up for three whole days. >> That's so awesome. >> Well, kids were like, "It's got to be true cuz April Fools was like two days ago. [laughter] >> They ran it through the first [laughter] and kids were kind of up in arms. >> We had protests and petitions getting organized. >> They're fighting

054back. [laughter] He looks like he was a part of it. Look at his smile on it. >> Well, he had a shirt. [laughter] >> A shirt that said Mr. Pearl the squirrel. [clears throat] >> How appropriate. [laughter] How appropriate. >> They didn't That was my nickname when I was a kid all the way through high school. And so it's kind of funny. I'll wear that shirt. >> Great. Now I got a shirt. I can wear it for the next class. >> It was great. It was so much fun. >> And none of them were old enough to remember that she was actually part of the business that changed them from the Wolverines to the Bulldog. Then she said they would all be wondering why she would let them convert the Bulldogs back to the squirrels.

055But they played for a long time. >> They changed it. Oh, yeah. Wolverines. >> Yeah, they were Wolverines. That's right. >> Yeah. Of all things, blue and gold was our >> Yeah. [laughter] >> All right. >> Okay, Evan, your two minutes are up. Oh, >> kidding. [laughter] >> Not April Fool's. Yeah, that was a very much some of the kids actually did seem to buy into it, which was [clears throat] kind of wild to see, but it was they had so much fun with that. on the high school side as if we did have our school carnival that it was the Wednesday before spring break which it's always it is one of our leadership like we put in a ton of effort into it and I talked with over she said we made about 1,500

056in cash not sure about how much made it hard but it's one of our biggest fundraisers that for the first time we had middle school students helping with outside Uh it was a little bit we were a bit worried at some points if we were going to have enough kids to help run all the booths but by the end get them all filled up and I think things ran pretty smoothly through the event. Uh we also have our annual dorm week fundraiser coming up soon where we raise money for dorm children. We have that week running from May 5th to May 8th. And going along that we have our third annual penny war fund right from April 27th through May 8th to bring in some good money for that. Uh as Mr. mentioned prom court

057and theme reveal day they revealed the theme as being evening in the secret garden. I can't recall everyone who's on the court. And then our FBA chapter has also been busy. They attended state convention over spring break. Uh where they did get public speaking. Uh then also poultry last week district pick first place that science got second place and for third with them also having adfest state poultry or adfest and state poultry judgment coming up next week a district chapter driving coming up soon the plants for horiculture is coming up for Mother's Day weekend and the FA banquets coming up and lastly uh on April 8th which was last Wednesday. Uh 40 upper classmen attended the discovera field trip over at the McNamecca campus. Got a there's a tour along with a sort of career

058fairy thing to see the different pathways from various careers. Was that under two minutes? >> You're golden. You're golden. >> Thank you. Do we have any audience? No one on policy the IKC. Um just just because as we head into graduation [clears throat] um one of the policies that we're going to start talking about is our um class rank uh validictorian saludiatoran uh classification and bringing forth different ways to look at that. We're running into some unique situations um really postco probably um more traditional uh val kind of models are we're seeing some things we can do differently that might help us. U you know some high schools use weighted grades some don't. So like when Evan here was competing for a scholarship this week you know we're representing GPA one way another school might

059represent a different way and yet Evan might have a more rigorous transcript in that. So we want to make sure that we're setting our kids up to compete on that level. The other thing is when you have one validictorian or that kind of validictorian validator that kind of locks it into like you're only going to have so many kids accomplish that. But one of the models we'll we'll present is looking at the Greek system like sumakumlad kumlad where you hit a certain GPA then you can have 10 kids in that category >> and you know that as we think about upping rigor and kids excelling in their opportunities. Does that give more kids an opportunity to kind of shoot for those kind of opport uh those rankings in that deal? you'll still have class rank,

060those types of things, but those recognitions, uh, we might want to look at open that up as we push for more academic rigor in that. So, we'll be bringing that forward. Um some other unique situations is uh I think you know last year we had a student who had been online career um and then comes in and all of a sudden it's part of the validictorian and it's like who you know where did this kid kind of really do his work and is it equal and so we're cleaning up a lot of the systems around online learning. Is it as rigorous as in person? And if it is, great. If not, um, you know, how are we going to fix that rigor? Um, we had a a unique opportunity this year where we had a

061a student who's a junior, wants to graduate early, who's a great student, but how do you calculate that into Val S, and it's not her class, but you don't want to bump kids out that have are in that group. And so, if you had that Greek system, it really wouldn't matter because they would all be in that group um in that process. So, we're just seeing more more things we can clean up with the policy. And so, we'll be talking about class ranking and class uh that whole piece as we move forward. Uh but wanted to at least get that on the radar as well. And then also in your u reports, you can see a letter that I did draft u four districts. See? >> Um >> thanks Devin. Sheridan, Willilamina, Amity, and Pedale

062[clears throat] have all signed this on a similar letter basically committing to our fire departments that you know they're going to be partners with us that we'll promote their program uh and try to get them some kids to work with in that process. So, um certainly not committing any money, but committing kids and kids time for that. Uh calendar the meeting calendar. We need to adopt that. >> Yes. So, we just need to adopt that. Um, basically follows the same format pretty much every year. Second Monday every month, 6 pm here, unless we have a work session or executive session. um pretty much calendar. Unless there's anything that you want to change or the format for the day or anything that follows what we've done traditionally. >> We have a motion to accept. >> I

063move to adopt the board meeting calendar for 2026 clear. >> I second. >> Second. It's been moved and seconded. to adopt the board meeting calendar for 2027 school year. There's no discussion. In >> favor say I. >> I. >> Post. Motion passes. And you want to talk about the new Maybus? >> Yeah. So you have two different proposals in your packet. One is 122 uh and change and one's 126 and change. Essentially last year we talked about buying two new minis. Uh we did buy one and we're putting that thing over the road. Our fleet, as I shared earlier, is is getting pretty worn in that process. We got a couple that um are struggling to keep on the road. Um these two are both in stock. um the 120 the difference in price is

064length. Um and so when we think about hauling gear and different things like that, it's always better to have a little longer bus for those high school kids uh to get their gear in in the rides as we go. So um I did put it in as an action item. Uh Lisa and I continue to feed a a bus replacement fund. those funds are sitting there um and could be used for that or if we decide we want to try and go one more year, we certainly could do that as well. Um but knowing that they had them in stock plus purchasing will pick up for districts per student and whoever else buys those things. Um they are gas, they're not diesel or electric. Um, is rumored that first student is getting some electrics smalls.

065Is that right? I didn't think they made them. We did have a bus break down today and I told Lonnie, I said, "Please tell me it was electric." >> Mhm. >> Uh, but it sound like it was probably a piece of we had to get it started. I don't know if you can say you got it started to get electric. >> I don't know what the term is. Get them rolling. Are both of them dual duals on the back? >> This picture is >> I didn't >> Yeah, that one is shows duels, but I could double check. The one we currently have is not >> the 007 is not. >> Looks more like a sprinter type, but >> yeah, it's but >> somebody referred to it as >> Yeah, I think people enjoy driving it.

066What will we do with the bus it replaces? Will we surplus it? >> Yep. >> Yeah, we need to surplus. >> Yeah, we don't. >> And what's our current inventory? We have We have one that's They're not recommending that we put much more. Yeah, >> they don't want to fix it anymore. >> Seriously, >> um, you know, and we put our kids, [clears throat] you know, safety is a big deal to me and and you know, we're getting those high mileage 300 plus thousand miles on some of these. You know, that's that's a hard one for me to explain to the public of I didn't make a choice to upgrade. So, I always like to keep it on the keep it keep it on the agenda. >> How much is in the bus replacement fund

067right now? >> Right now we're still sitting on the electric bus. >> Oh, we can't count that million. >> About 300,000 >> thoughts. I say we're just the larger one. >> You're thinking we should go with the larger one. >> That's my That was my thought too, but I don't want to. >> That would be my recommendation. >> You're asking now? >> Yeah. I'll move to purchase the larger >> uh mini bus. >> Okay, it's been moved. >> I'll second that. >> It's been seconded. Any other discussion, David? Anything thoughts? >> Okay. All in favor of uh approving the purchase of the larger minibus as proposed by saying I >> I opposed. >> I Okay, thank you. Motion passes. uh future agenda items. >> We'll have a hand you're going to send out >> I'll

068send out the evaluation giving the guys time definitely to get that done taken care of but we'll have to have a executive session in May to go over that. So just be prepared for that. And then also again just the reminder about your budget committee meeting April 27th 6 pm here. >> Um >> not here. >> Did you How did you know? >> Cuz I just had a feeling >> for which one? >> Um >> no just the first one. >> Okay. >> I found out today that we're on our cruise is the 10th through the 17th. Oh, >> so you're saying you'll be back? >> I'll be back for that. But isn't our um >> No, I know that. But our next board meeting >> Oh, will be during >> be the second. >>

069April second. >> Yeah. >> So, >> that'll be Noah. I don't know if I can call in from the last cruise ship. >> Huh? >> I'll be here for the budget committee. Yeah. Princess Cruis's first one in 12 years of being retired. So I don't know everybody do something. So >> that's right. >> That'd be the 11th >> want to go the next. [clears throat] >> Yeah, I know. of all the busing stuff I had spent that whole week. >> They can date me somewhere. >> If there's nothing else for the good of the order to adjourn to >> second all in favor say I. All right, >> we are >> well getting longer.
