And gentlemen, please remove your caps. She can't get >> [music] [music] >> Thank you. >> [music] [cheering] [applause] [cheering] >> It is now my privilege to introduce Mrs. Sarah Bon, the Lone Peak Cluster representative of the Alpine School District. Following Mrs. Bon's remarks, Lincoln Pay, the student

body president, will address us. After Lincoln, it will be my pleasure to dress you. >> That was amazing. >> One test. Test. Can you hear me now? >> Okay. >> They said that they were going to set this to my height and they didn't know I was going to wear heels today, I guess. But graduates, just briefly, I wanted to say you may or may not realize that your teachers and your counselors, um, your administrators and even your your district leaders and board members study data and, uh, we look at student achievement. And as we're looking at that, we we know it doesn't tell the whole story of Lone Peak because on paper, Lone Peak looks pretty am amazing. you have high levels of student achievement and high levels of learning. But just like that

data, we look at those individual data points, but those individual data points represent you, every single one of you, every individual. And it's not your achievements and the academics at Lone Peak High School that make this such a special place to be. It's how you are as students. It's your scarlet writes that have such a disposition of kindness and sweetness. It's your students like Zecha Nichols who have such big large hearts that are good people. [cheering] That's who Lone Peak is. Now, I want to say this. It wasn't that long ago that your own parents, that your teachers, that your faculty members, and even your district leaders were sitting where you're sitting right now. But there's a huge difference. You guys have the knack and the ability to understand to take the right things seriously

and the wrong things lightly. you understand that it's not just student achievement and the accolades of academia that that yes, they're important and while they're important, you just have the ability to balance that with being kind, good people who understand the importance, the real importance that success in life isn't about what we achieve. It's it's about how we love. It's about serving others and and being kind. And while I want to say, "Oh, I can't wait to see what amazing things you're going to do in the future." It's really not that hard because you are amazing and you are doing those things now. So, in all sincerity, class of 2026, Lone Peak Knights, congratulations and good luck. [cheering] [applause] [cheering] Morning, [applause] [cheering] guys. Um, I feel like being here in the Marriott Center, we

should be listening to that perfect combination of Greg Reubel and Kanye West while we watch some poor kid try to guard AJ. But instead, you guys are just going to have to listen to me. Um, three years ago, I walked into this school absolutely convinced that I had it all figured out. And today, I'm I stand before you to share the most important lesson I've learned since then. I've got absolutely no idea what I'm doing. But the good news is neither do any of you. Knights, today I want to express my gratitude to each of you. These last 12 years going to school with you guys have had an enormous impact on me. As far as advice goes, I don't know that I'm qualified to give you guys much as I've lived just as long

as you as you have. Excuse me. Um, however, if I could summarize the most important lessons I've learned as a student at Lone Peak, um, I would ask you to remember three things. The first being to treat everybody as a child of God. Every single person has value and everyone should be treated as such. There was once another famous president and his name was also Lincoln. And he said, "I don't like that man. I must get to know him better." I would ask you guys to take those words to heart and remember them as you live your life. Chances are that you encounter people that will require effort to appreciate. And I can personally say that at Lone Peak, I met a few of you guys that, for lack of better words, I had to

get to know a lot better before I had something nice to say about you guys. Isn't that right, Porter? Um, second, I'd like to challenge you guys to find things to be grateful for. I see my dad right there and he's smiling right now because my whole life he's kind of been saying that on repeat. Unfortunately, I do have to admit that he's right in this case. Um, if you can master gratitude, you will be a happier and a more successful person. And let's be honest, gratitude is not always easy. Some days the only thing you're thankful for is that the sun rose or that the bell rang and you got to go home from school. But those small moments add up. Those kinds of moments are what keeps us going when life gets messy.

Which brings me to my final point. Be in the moment. Um, our years of high school are a collection of moments. And I want to thank all of you guys for making those moments with me. During hard times when I couldn't find anything for which to be grateful and could barely get out of bed and come to school, I saw one of you guys looking out for me. And on my good days, I hope I could have been that person for you. Those seemingly small moments hopefully created an impact that will last beyond the years of high school. As we move into the next phase of life, we may not remember all the things we heard in the classroom, but I really hope we remember the lessons that shaped us into who we are today.

And when things get tough, because they will, remember that you don't have to do it alone. Look around you. These people are your team and I am personally am proud to call each of you guys a teammate. So congratulations everybody. You earned this. We earned this. And for my last time this year, one peak, one purpose. Go Nights. [cheering] [applause] >> This year's theme was one peak, one purpose. We read this on signs throughout the school, heard it on daily announcements, and saw it in every single StuCo show. So, if it's not permanently engraved in your brain by now, we're going to try to get there by the end of the speech. This theme could mean a lot of different things depending on who you ask. But here's my interpretation. Our one peak is high

school, Lone Peak, the senior class. It's the mountain we've been climbing for three years. And somehow, even with the wave of senioritis, we got to the top. Our one purpose looks a little bit different. It could mean taking state, scoring a 36 on the ACT, getting all A's, or simply just passing all of your classes. We all have different goals. For some of us, that means pressing submit at 11:59, the night our big assignment is due. But we are not alone in this because we are all climbing the same peak. This was the year that Lone Peak finally won over 100 state titles. We had eight Sterling scholars go to state and Lone Peak was offered over $17 million in scholarships. So, I guess that means Lone Peak is next level. I've even heard us

described as world class. We've come a long way as a senior class. Starting from ground zero as a brand new group of sophomores, getting thrown into the whirlwind of high school, moving up to junior year when you realize ACT really is as bad as everyone said it would be. Even senior year was a bit stressful with college applications, mission calls, and just trying to figure out where life is going to take you next. Lone Peak was our chapter. And just like all great chapters, this one has to end. But something that never ends is the feelings felt here. Going to dances, late night football games, hourly study sessions, parking lot road rage, sploosh concerts, Todd Dawson thinks I'm awesome t-shirts, and most importantly, the friends we've made here. These are the things we remember and

the things that we will take with us in our next stage of life. So for the last time, one peak, one purpose, and let's not forget, once a night, ALWAYS A NIGHT. >> [cheering] [applause] >> THIS YEAR, THE LONE PEAK BAND WILL now perform Go Tell It on the Mountain. The band will be conducted by Jamie Kim, the Lone Peak band director. >> [music] >> Heat. Heat. [music] >> [music] [music] >> Number [music] one. >> [music] [music] >> Heat. Heat. [music] [music] >> [music] [music] >> Heat. Heat. [music] Heat. [music] Heat. [music] >> [music] >> Heat. [music] Heat. [music] Heat. [music] [cheering] Heat. [applause] >> [cheering] [applause] >> We will now be pleased to hear from our class saludiatoran, Maxwell Carter, who will then be followed by our class validictorian, Michael Chi. [applause and cheering]

Sophomore year, I wasn't nearly as cool as I am now. [cheering] I I'd never gone on a date, but Parker Burnham convinced me I had to go to homecoming, and I was terrified. At night, Parker and I ran up to Rachel Clark's porch, dropped off a poster, and I knocked on her door. I turned to Parker and said, "Run." He said, "No, no. Let's get a picture." Keep in mind that I had already knocked on the door at this point. I figured it was faster not to argue, so I said fine while Parker fumbled with his phone. And it was at this point that Rachel's dad opened the door. [laughter] And I was filled with a kind of fear that I never felt before. To this day, I don't know what Mr. Clark's reaction was

cuz we bolted off the porch as fast as we could. Um, and as we drove away, I made sure to let Parker know that this was his fault. Fortunately, Rachel said yes, and we had a great time at the dance. I'm sure many of you have had experiences like this. And if you haven't, Ryan Rans, then I highly recommend you do in the future. New experiences can be scary. The future's kind of scary right now with AI and all that. And sometimes I wonder if we're all just cooked, you know? But but then I think about the lessons we've learned here at Lone Peak. Our teachers have prepared us how to handle an uncertain future. Mr. Ree and Dr. Dr. Haney taught us how to avoid being deceived by fake news. Dr. Lions showed us

how numbers can be misleading. And Mr. Gibby and Mr. Lee taught how human design can be better than AI. And most of all, we've had each other to help navigate new experiences along the way. Parker got me into the mess on Rachel's porch, but he also helped to get me out of it. I've learned going through new things is a lot more fun when you have good people by your side. And no matter what the future holds. Hey, Todd Dawson thinks we're awesome. >> Let's go Knights. [cheering] [applause] [cheering] Thanks, Tom. >> Good morning everybody. My name is Michael Chi and it is an honor to be standing in front of you here today. First, I want to congratulate all of you on completing your high school journey. And I also want to thank the

teachers, parents, friends, and families who helped us get here today. All of us have spent the last three years being told what to do, want to have it done by, but do we really want to keep living like that? The average life expectancy in the United States is 79. And that means we have just over 61 more years or 732 more months to keep living. And we can't live these in fear. In the song Good Morning by Kanye West, he says, "Scared to face the world, complacent career student. Some people graduate but be still stupid. We need to break free from the complacency that school has taught us. For the last three years, our success has been measured numerically through how well we performed at assigned tasks and draw within the lines. But people don't

remember Galileo for blindly following what the Catholic Church told him to do. Nor do they remember Steve Jobs because his phone looked like every other time. The world ahead of us doesn't grade on a curve. It doesn't give us any partial credit, but it also doesn't have a syllabus, and that's the point. For the first time, we get to control and decide what we're working towards. So, take risks. Start a business. Pick an unconventional major, but more importantly, chase your dreams. 61 years sounds like a long time, but 732 months will pass by faster than you think. Don't spend them playing it safe. People won't remind remember remember you for following every direction given to you but instead because of your creativity and courage to think differently. So spend your life doing something people are

[applause] [cheering] The Lone Peak High School Choir will now perform unwritten. The choir is directed by Mr. Alec Powell. Following the choir, a special presentation will be made by the Lone Peak High School administration. Then, Porter Dawson and Caleb Hills will deliver a tribute to parents. [cheering] And following them, we will have a chance to hear from our principal, Mr. Todd Dawson. [cheering] >> [music] >> staring at the blank days before you. Open up the dirty window. Let the sun illuminate [singing] the words that you cannot find. Reaching for something in the distance so close you can [music] almost taste it. Release your inhibition. [singing] I am [music and singing] carrying

my mind. I'm undefined. [singing] I'm just beginning the pens in my head ending on plan. Staring at the blank page before you open up [music] the dirty window with the sun >> [singing] >> illuminate the words that you cannot find. Reaching for something in the distance so [music] close you can almost taste it. Release your inhibition. [singing] Feel the rain on your skin. No one else can feel [music and singing] it for you. Only you can let in. No one else. No one else can speak the words on your lips. [music] Words unspoken. Live your life with arms wide [singing] open. Today is where your book begins. The rest is still on. >> [music] [music] >> as a blank before [singing] you. Open up the dirty window. [music] Let the sun illuminate the words that

you cannot find. Reaching [music] for something in the distance so close you can [singing] almost face it. Release your inhibition. Staring at the maze before you open up the dirty window. Let the sun illuminate the words that you cannot find reaching for [applause] something in the distance. So close you can almost stay. Release your inhibition. [singing] There you face before you [music] open up the dirty window that you can find or something [music] in the distance. So close you can almost taste it. Release your inhibition. [music and singing] I am [music] [cheering] [applause] Tracy Wallace >> test. Will Tracy Wallace, Gail Tilly, and Chartina Vorhees please join me here at the front of the stand. Graduates of the Lone Peak class of 2026. Like you, these three career educators have reached the culminating and bittersweet

moment in which they will also move on from the cherished halls of our school and seek new enlightenment and adventure. Like you, they take with them the sweet memories of being a lone peak night. In tribute to the powerful influence of good they have had on the people of our beloved school, we wish to present them with honorary diplomas. for his 12 years at Lone Peak and 17 years of dedicated service to Alpine School District. We honor Tracy Wallace [applause and cheering] for her 21 years of dedicated service at Lone Peak. We honor Gail Tilly [applause and cheering] >> and for her 24 years of dedicated service to our Lone Peak Knights. We honor Chartina Vorhees. [cheering] [applause] >> We honor you with these honorary diplomas as part of the Lone Peak High School class

of 2026. May you always treasure being a Lone Peak Knight. [applause] [cheering] >> Will Principal Todd Dawson please join me? [cheering] [applause] >> Mr. Dawson has served as principal of Lone Peak High School since 2021. Mr. Dawson was recently selected to be the new assistant superintendent of people and talent for the new Tempenogga school district. Mr. Dawson's influence as a cultural leader has been profound at Lone Peak. If a school could be related to an organism, the students would be its living energy, the teachers and staff the life sustaining blood that nourishes and feeds that energy. And because of its influence on how that life sustaining strength reaches every limb, organ, and system, a principle is much like the heart that pumps that blood. Over the past 5 years, Mr. Dawson has been the heart

of our school, inspiring every one of us to become our best by truly believing in and embracing our inner awesomeness. Mr. Dawson is encouraged every night to be a force for good. Lone Peak class of 2026. How many of you have a Todd Dawson t-shirt? [cheering] >> That is not some hollow platitude or publicity stunt. That is a core belief held by this man, your principle, which we hope you'll never forget. He sees you as you truly are and who you can truly become. He se and he sees you that way unconditionally. Mr. to Todd Dawson. On behalf of the Lone Peak High School, we present you with this honorary diploma as a member of the Lone Peak class of 2026. We thank you for your inspiring influence. You've demonstrated that principled leadership can make

an already worldclass high school even awesomer. We will miss you and your dog analogies and your Star Wars references. And in so much as you've inspired each of us to embrace our inner awesomeness, we wish for you to know that Lone Peak High School knows Todd Dodd is a Todd Dawson is awesome. [cheering] [applause] [cheering] >> WHAT UP P? WOOHOO. >> [cheering] >> UH CHOIR, THAT WAS AWESOME, but we are nowhere near as good as them. So, be ready in for a treat. >> And in case it wasn't apparent, um Splooch's concert last night is to blame for my horse voice. So, yeah. Did they kill him? >> [music] >> Graduations here and now. We're moving [singing] on. Took you for granted. [music] Mom, but you are the rule. Sorry I missed my class. I

didn't want to [music and singing] go. You said I drove myself to Chick-fil-A alone. I'm sorry, unpredictable. [singing] But in the end, you're right. I should have [music] gone to class all of the time. Let's go back to when I was in pre. I was [music and singing] so nervous, but you said don't be afraid. You always told me to [music] hustle to my class. I tried to run there, [singing] but I fell down on my face. I'm sorry for [music and singing] all the messes, but in the end, you're right. I should have tied my races all those times. [music] Fifth grade recess felt [music] like freedom in every way. Traded our lunches while made [singing] longingly each day. We used to think that our neur [music] [singing] questions like how our babies made.

I'm sorry for all [music and singing] the grass you found in my brand new sleeves. I know that I was [singing] a big pain [music] in your sleep. The junior high was basically a foreign lamb. You put [singing] them with the questions [music] that I would demand. Mom, what's for dinner? Broccoli. Oh, sweet. Thank you. Love you, Mom. >> You never like the bad [music and singing] words that I used to speak. I was quickly humbled when you [music and singing] grounded me two weeks. I'm sorry for all the mood swings. Now I sit and [music] think [singing] at night. Fighting with my siblings. Not all right. High [music] school is here and holy cow, it's gone real fast. You planned [music and singing] every dance and you made it all real blast. School was

so hard and failure [music and singing] was my fate. Till you gave me wrote all of my essays. Mom, you excuse my absences, [music] but Skyward can't be right. There's no way I [singing] missed class 83 [music] times. >> Oh, Dad, don't [music] you fret. We haven't [singing] forgot you. Came to our games and yelled out at the refs, too. Wrath, are you freaking blind, bro? I'm like 15. This is AF Wreck. And they're like 10. >> Shoot. Sorry. Hike forgot. >> Tell me to swim and drive and ride a bike like you. I love [music] your credit card. [singing] You never knew I used. Isn't it so crazy how the years flown by? Like a baby bird. We've learned to fly. [music] Mom, we really love you. Dad, you're the smartest guy. All your

blood, sweat, and tears have readied [music and singing] us for life. Farewell. Rest assured, you've prepared [music] us well for [singing] life. [cheering] Love you, Mom. Love you, mom. Love you, DAD. DAWSON. WOOHOO. THANK YOU, MUMBO. [applause and cheering] >> That was awesome, guys. Thank you. Uh, first thing I want to remind you of before I start my speech. Um, soccer state championship final is Friday at 1. [cheering] It's at Zion Bank Stadium and y'all better pull up. That's what I was told to say. So, uh, should be awesome. Uh, board member Sarah Bon, Superintendent Rob Smith, executive director of human resources Cammy Harper, secondary school supervisor Jeff Skunover, welcome and thank you for being here for these commencement exercises for the class of 2026. To our faculty and staff, thank you. I love you.

I'm grateful to have worked alongside you. I appreciate your dedicated hard work and your excellence. You are truly awesome. My parents are here today. I love you. That was a great song, wasn't it? That was a great song. I didn't miss class 83 times, I would have not survived. So, I was raised in a different era. My parents' influence on me is immeasurable. They taught me to >> [snorts] >> taught me to work hard, taught me to love other people. They taught me to believe in myself. That is something that I truly want for each of you and for each person is to believe in yourself. You hear me tell you often, none of us is awesome at our worst, but each of us is awesome at our best. That's so true, guys. [snorts] When

I'm at my worst, I'm no fun to be around. I'm not awesome. But when I'm at my best, I'm awesome. And so are you. I want you to know that. [snorts] My wife is also here. I love her. Being the principal at Lone Peak High School has been one of the great opportunities and blessings of my life. [snorts] But none of what I've been able to do for you and with you would have happened without this woman here. I love her dearly. She's a mother of five of my children. All of my children, five children, and she's grandmother to our three grandchildren. And she's the rock in my life. and I love her dearly. [snorts] Now to you, the graduating class of 2026. You're why we're here today. This is a celebration. This is really

an amazing event in your life and something you've been looking forward to. [snorts] I've had a ton of thoughts over the last few weeks as I've walked the halls and looked into your faces as we went to prom and danced together and had a great time. I value you. I want what's best for you. And like Porter and uh sorry, I'm drawing a blank here. I'm so sorry. And Caleb just saying, [snorts] you know, to their parents, parents, thank you. Sorry, I'm I need a [snorts] tissue. I apologize. Well, that's not open. There's a box. >> A box. There you go. [snorts] As Caleb and uh Porter just saying to their parents, you have prepared them the best you know how. In my role as principal, I have given the grace to every parent who's

come to talk to me about any matter. In my mind, I tell myself this. Here's a man or here's a woman who loves their child and they're parenting them the best way they know how. And I admire you as parents for the work that you put in to raising your children and for the example that you give to them each day and for the things that you teach them. Thank you to the parents. Students, maybe you've heard the saying sometime in your life that showing up is half the battle. I think there's a lot of truth in that. Showing up is half the battle. Getting there, get there. But how you show up, in my opinion, is [snorts] the other half of the battle. I believe that when we choose to be our best and

we show up for each other as our best that we make every circumstance better, we make those around us better. So, how will you show up in the life ahead of you? How will you show up in your work or your profession? How will you show up in your service that you give? How will you show up for your friends and your family? >> [snorts] >> How will you show up when your best is needed? When we deny our own ability to be awesome and to be our best, we don't make a positive impact. I don't believe we make a difference by playing small. What does that mean to play small? It means that we deny the greatness within us [snorts] and that we hold back what's best about us when situations arise that need

us. Whether that be our leadership, our influence, our impact, our kindness, our example. Own your awesomeness. Show up as your best self. Sometimes we do hold back because of fear. Sometimes we do hold back because we're tired. Sometimes we do hold back because we just don't know what to do. [snorts] But I'm telling you, make a choice to show up as your best self and things will only get better. I've heard a couple references in earlier talks [snorts] about about the fear of the future and about what comes next. And I'm telling you, it's going to be great. It's also going to be what you make it. Some years ago, I was planning a hike. I was going to go into the Wind River Mountains in Wyoming and I'd been in that area before and

I was super excited to go again. I love to backpack in the summers and I was going alone. I was going to do six days solo and I was a little bit nervous. I'd done some overnight solo trips, but I'd not been gone that long. Uh, and it was bear country. And I was scared of bears. And I remember sitting on the couch and looking at the maps and planning my trip. And there were times where I was almost so afraid of the bears that I was like, "All right, I'm not going." And I was almost desperate to find a hiking partner. I was texting buddies. I was talking to family members. Anybody want to go? You got six days. You want to go on this trip? Because I was a little bit nervous about

it. I decided to go and it was a great trip. I'd never spent six days by myself doing anything. There were times I just sat on rocks and stared at the cliffs literally for like an hour or I'd fish and then I'd go take a nap and then I'd hike a little more. It was just me. One thing surprised me. I was more afraid of the bears at home on the couch than I was when I was in the mountains. Sometimes the fearful stories we tell ourselves in our mind are worse than reality. There's power, mental power, physical power in moving, in going, in doing. Had I stayed home because of that fear, I didn't even see a bear, guys. I didn't even see a bear. I I don't even think I saw a bear

track. But I had an wonderful experience. But what did settle on me as time passed was the little things was where the danger came. I almost burned myself cooking dinner one night. 15 miles from a trail head. That couldn't have been good. I almost sliced my finger with my pocketk knife when I was cutting a a piece of rope to tie down my tarp. That could have not been good. I was crossing a stream by myself. I hadn't seen anybody for 6 hours. My ankle kind of rolled on a rock and I thought, "Is this where I'm to be found?" In a creek somewhere, my backpack strapped to my back, unable to move. Little things like that were the things that I had to start paying attention to. It wasn't the big bears that were

going to come and chase me out of a tree somewhere. It was me needing to pay attention to the small things. Life is like that. There are big bears to be afraid of. I was bear aware. I was cautious. Made noise. I sang songs. I was sure that I was looking into valleys before I walked into them. You have to do that. But I also began to pay attention to little things that I'd never thought of before I started my journey. And I encourage you on this day as you set out for your future to know where the pitfalls are and to be aware, but to also pay attention to the small details of your life. Your habits, your daily choices, the things that you spend your time doing will make or break you in

the end. But I'll tell you this, there's something to be said for pursuing a goal. There's something to be said for moving forward. There's something to be said for both caution and bravery. And there's something to be said about going on an adventure. In the glorious, wonderful years of life that await you, I hope that you dare to be a person of action. That you try new things and that you try again if you fail. That you have the courage and wisdom necessary to adjust your course and overcome obstacles. That you'll rest when you need it. And most importantly, please speak kindly and encouragingly to yourself along the way. Couple years ago in my graduation speech, I reminded the graduates that the most important voice is the voice of your own voice in your head.

The way that you speak to yourself matters. [snorts] I [snorts] believe in you. I'll be cheering you on from a distance. I want to close by reminding you that there will be countless times in your life when your best will be required of you. I ask that you're willing to give that version of yourself. [snorts] I want your awesomeness to shine and I want you to own it. Don't play small. Each of you has strengths. Each of you has skills. Each of you has aptitudes and visions and ideas that are unique to you. Don't be shy about them. Recognize you're not perfect, but judge yourself by your strengths and work on your weaknesses along the way. And give of your best in everything you do, and you will not regret it. Class [snorts] of 2026,

I re I congratulate you today on your graduation from high school and I cheer you on as you step into your bright and wonderful future. I know the greatness within you. I've seen it. I've watched you when you've been at your best. And I'm telling you, you have it all and you have so much to offer. Go and use it. So I [snorts] ask of you one last time here. How will you show up when your best is needed? I believe we can count on you. I love you. I think you're awesome. Congratulations.
