For these last few years, we've done something a little bit different. Because sometimes we take things for granted. We have [clears throat] high expectations for our students. Let's face it. We expect big things out of them. These students you see before you are involved in so many activities when we ask them to narrow down to five, sometimes that's a hard thing to do. Add in

volunteering for so many events at the school and in our community, all the while maintaining superior academic achievement, often while working a part-time or even full-time job, consistently meeting and exceeding our expectations. And sometimes they don't get the proper recognition for their efforts. So I personally would like us to show our student leaders that their efforts and impact are valued and appreciated. So I'd like to begin the evening with a resounding applause for our students. >> [applause] [applause] >> THIS HAS BEEN A GREAT GROUP OF SENIORS whom I will miss very much. They've been involved in American Red Cross blood drives, collecting over 80 units so far this year. So here's our challenge to you. >> [clears throat] >> 20 more units. And during the spring blood drive on May the 27th of April, so

what I say? Monday, April 27th. Mark that on your calendars, get your phones out. Um Monday, April 27th, that will provide our president, Olivia Monahan, with a $1,500 scholarship. Let's go. Can we do that? [applause] LET'S GO. WE RECENTLY SENT UH 85 NJHS and NJHS members to our elementary to teach the students our Junior Achievement lessons. What a big day that was. We also had a the largest number of volunteers for the Pittsburgh Symphony event at Waynesburg University. And these are just a few of the many activities these students have participated in throughout the school year, which I'll tell you about in a little bit. So, I'm very confident these seniors have very bright futures ahead of them. To the juniors, we look forward to working with you throughout the coming year. Expectation has been

set. So, be ready and willing to accept that responsibility. To our administration and school board, we appreciate your continued support. To our teachers, staff, secretaries, food service personnel, bus drivers, maintenance crew, resource officers, technology administrator, and others, we'd like to say thank you. We would like to thank Miss Hathaway for providing the live stream for our ceremony tonight for those who are unable to attend in person. And so, our faculty council, Miss Rice, Mr. Lane, Mrs. Keeney, Mrs. Panepinto, and Miss Simko, I personally want to thank you for all of your help and advice. They do an amazing job preparing our students for future interviews. And I personally love that one-on-one time to really get to know our students. To our parents, thank you for always supporting your child's education. Today, you see just one

of the many results that yet to come from all of your hard work and effort in raising your children. Hey, I think they need a ROUND OF APPLAUSE. >> [applause] >> THIS IS A VERY SPECIAL OCCASION AND I'M SO GLAD that you came to support our National Honor Society members. Thank you for coming to congratulate our new members as well as offer best wishes for our seniors as they're about to become NHS alumni. We will begin our ceremony with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Mr. Jericho Schiffbauer. Please stand. >> I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Now, we will read the National Honor Society description. >> The National Honor

Society was founded in 1921 and sparked by Edward Rynearson, principal of the Fifth Avenue High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. To recognize and encourage academic achievement while also developing other characteristics essential for citizens in a democracy. >> Sponsored by National Association of Secondary School Principals, the objectives of the National Honor Society are to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to prompt worthy leadership, and to encourage the development of character in the nation's secondary school students. >> The National Honor Society has built a reputation for excellence by promoting high school academic standards and ensuring the continuation of democracy and making a positive difference in the lives of individuals and in the spirit of the community and school. Um we will now read this emblem of significance. >> All right. The emblem

of the National Honor Society was first described by E.J. Eaton, one of the members of the first National Council. The emblem of the emblem of this society is the keystone and the flaming torch. The keystone bears at its base the letters CSLS, which [snorts] stand for the cardinal principles of the organization. Character, scholarship, leadership, and service. >> The keystone as placed by the builder to hold a perfect arch in perpetual stability. So, the structure of our education must be held firm and true to the purposes of life by by the virtues represented in this emblem. >> To bear forward a searching light of truth, to lead that others may follow in light, to keep burning in our school a high ambition toward the enduring values of life, and to serve. These purposes are symbolized in

the torch. And now, Josh Ross will light the candle of knowledge. >> Scholarship. Scholarship means a commitment to learning. A student is willing to spend hours in reading and study, knowing the lasting benefits of a cultivated mind. We should continue to learn even after formal education has ended, for education ends only with the end of life. Knowledge is one great element in life which leads to the highest success, and it can be acquired in only one way, through diligence and effort. Learning furnishes the lamp by which we read the past and the light which illuminates the future. Candidates will have the charge to continually expand their world through the opportunities inherent in scholarship. And now our vice president Roy Rigelman will discuss leadership. >> Job, Robert. Thank you. >> [clears throat] >> Leadership. Leadership should

should exert a wholesome influence on the school. In taking the initiative in class and school activities, the real leader strives to train and aid others to attain the same objective. The price of leadership is sacrifice, the willingness to yield one's personal interest for the interest of others. A leader has self-confidence and will go forward where others hesitate. No matter what power and resources may exist in a country, they are ineffectual without the guidance of a wise leader. Leadership is always needed. Thus, to lead is a substantive charge to each of our members. Now, the secretary uh Emma Bates will present character. >> Character is a force within each individual which distinguishes that person from others. It gives each one our individuality. It is that without which no one can respect oneself nor hope to attain

the respect of others. It is this force of character which guides one through life and when once developed grows steadily. Character is achieved and not received. It is the product of constant effort of constant action, daily striving to make the right choice. The problem of character is a problem of self-control. We must be in reality what we wish to appear to others. By demonstrating qualities such as respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, fairness, caring, and citizenship, we may hope to prove by example that we value character. And now, our historian Shaylee Glover will present our summary of service. >> Service can be terminated can be described in various ways. In the routine of the day's work, many opportunities arise to help others. Willingness to work for the benefit of those in need without monetary monetary or without recognition

recognition is the quality we seek in our membership. We are committed to the idea of volunteering our time and abilities to the creation of a better tomorrow. NHS service projects, it is important that the National Honor Society to help others and give back to our community. We are grateful to have an opportunity to participate in many activities this past year. We were able to stay after school and assist students in need by tutoring them. We helped organize toys at Toys for Tots and we continue to volunteer at the local food bank. We volunteered for Junior Achievement where we visited the elementary school and teach the class for a day. We volunteered at the Waynesburg University Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra Holiday Brass Spectacular. We've held several blood drives this year and plan to continue to do so
