like to call to order the December 8th meeting of the Konosoga Valley School Board. Uh and also welcome those present and those that are attending online. If you would all please rise with me and we'll say the pledge. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> One quick comment, our mics will be staying on live the entire time during the meetings from now on. So, if we start making weird noises, you'll have to forgive us ahead of time if you hear any of those weird like coffees and grunts and stuff. Um, that'll be a new thing. Um, are there any changes to the agenda this evening? Oh, I'm sorry. Can you
give us attendance first, Marilyn? >> There are seven directors present tonight. Mr. Eie and Dr. Martin are absent. >> Any changes? Okay. >> Uh, the PSBA report was added to the agenda today. >> Okay. Can I get uh an approval for tonight's agenda? >> So moved. >> Second. >> All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Any nos or abstensions? Agenda is approved. So, we'll start with board commendations tonight. Congratulations to several CBHS music students who have been selected for prestigious music events. Isaiah Bowman, Reagan Bradley, Mallerie Marshall, and Alistair Sha and Gwen Enrew were selected to participate in the LLMEA County Forest Festival County Chorus Festival at Hempfield High School. Mallerie and Gwen were selected to take part in the PMEA District 7 chorus event at Boiling Springs High School, which will both
and both of those events will take place in January. Congratulations to CVHSCTC students Emily Fischer and David Odinchuk for being named students of the month at their respective CTC campuses. Emily is a senior and a student at the Willow Street campus and David is a junior and as a student at the Brownstown campus. And lastly, the November art department report includes a roundup of student artwork from across the district which can be viewed online. So, please take a look at that in support of them. Uh, superintendent comments. Dr. Arman. >> Good evening. Uh, in addition to my my superintendence report, I don't have a lot to report this evening. I just did want to share that I I got had the opportunity to spend my day today uh in Hershey at the Pennsylvania Department of
Education's annual conference. They call it the SAS Institute stands for a standards aligned system. I'm there tomorrow as well. Uh but a lot of the sessions I got to go to today were focused on uh AI and career readiness and career education. So two familiar topics that we spend a lot of time with this board talking about uh and a lot of our initiatives in the district are around. So, uh, it was great to sit and and see some, uh, model practices that are out there and and some what's some ideas that are coming down the road and, uh, more to reaffirm that I think that the a lot of the things we're doing are, uh, the right thing and the right direction and hopefully tomorrow is, uh, just as positive as an experience. That
concludes my report. >> Awesome. Are there any board comments on district activities? >> Okay. Uh, is there any correspondence, Mrs. Martin? >> There is none. >> Okay. So, now we'll have the annual report from the BAA. >> I changed it. >> Okay. So, if you can go to the next one. Perfect. So, this just gives you an overview of what we do. We support the extracurricular activities and um sports that enhance the programs for the students. And we support the school and the athletic budgets to offset taxpayer dollars through alternative fundraising. And that's everyone that we help, which is every club and every activity. Shelley, can I interrupt you real quick just so everybody's aware that little box that you everybody is seeing is not on my screen so I can't get rid of it.
So that's okay. Apologize for that. >> I know this. We're good. >> Okay. Uh that's our voting membership and how we structure the BAA. Um each club we ask have one representative with an alternate. Sometimes we don't we're not able to get that, but at least one representative uh does sit on each meeting for each booster club. Uh we have the executive board, we have the athletic director, and um I guess we'll get a new rep from here. Uh because it was Mike, so we'll get a new rep. >> Uh we meet monthly. We actually are leaving here to go do our monthly meeting. And um I don't know what that bottom part says. I think that was the fundraising for the anchor events. Mhm. >> That's just us uh for me as president and
Angela McFarland. And then Shannon is our secretary. >> Sorry. Trying to fix that for you. >> There it went away. >> Y >> good job, Dan. >> Looks good. >> This is pretty much our anchor fundraisers. We have the Harlem Wizards, which this year will be in March. um with them they had us we normally do it in February but they kind of structured theirs a little bit different this year we had to guarantee that we would sell 1,200 tickets so yeah that's what we said that was our look we did get to 1148 two years ago so it is like there it's just all the timing so we switched it to March this year um just to where the structure fell that we feel we could hit um we do the back to school
night with the barntormers We're actually changing that a little bit. We're making that a community event and not calling it back to school night next year. Um, with the back to school, it is a little bit hectic. So, we opened it up this year as a community event and it went over very well. Uh, that will be again in September. And then the Makers Market/Craft Show, we have that every November. Um, we're going to work with Frank on a date maybe changing for that. We'll see what that comes up to, but it's typically the second no uh Saturday in November. May I have asked about the tickets for the wizards? How much are they? >> Um, it depends. We You get to pick what you want them to do. We keep ours at $25 depending,
but we sell different parts like you can get um you can get a VIP where you get to sit in the special seats down courtside and you get a special lanyard. You'll get to meet the players and you get some things with that. Or you can have a reserve seat so that you know you have a seat and that's in a separate section that we block off. And then you have a typical admission. So it can go anywhere from $20 up to $50. Um she every year she calls, she always wants us to raise it $5, but we always we keep it the same because we want to make it as many people as we can get there. >> Very good. Thank you. >> That's another source of revenue for the BAA. um portions of
the student participation fee and that's how they break it out um from Adele. We do get a portions of um the free reduced lunch program, the tennis courts lights and the class one rental fees, but that did change a little bit this year. So that's kind of went down compared to what they normally are. And then um I don't know if Frank will do an apparel fundraiser this year, but last year we did get the profits from the apparel fundraiser that the athletic department ran. Is it appropriate for another question? >> Ask all questions. >> I sure wondered um I didn't understand that before. I didn't remember. How is it that you get fees from the reduced lunch program? >> That's an adult question. >> What was I couldn't hear the whole question. How do
we know? >> No. How how is it that part of the fees go to the Buckskin Alliance? I just thought reduced lunch program was food. >> Sure. Well, any student that's considered um economically challenged uh has a reduced fee that was set a long time ago uh for any of those students that would qualify as $10 per student. That goes to help offset the cost of the student accident insurance. So that goes to the look look at the frame before that. Okay. Those kids don't have to pay all of that. >> Okay. So it it comes out of our general fund. >> Actually the student accident insurance is paid out of the athletic fund. So >> those fees, the $10 goes to the athletic fund to help offset there. >> Okay. So, it's not coming
out of monies that that we get for the reduced lunches. >> No, no, thank you. >> Good question. >> That's Thank you. >> And I just gave you guys a summary of the past couple years. Um, that actually is the last year that we've done the elimination dinner. Um, that was kind of a lower elimination dinner that we had. Then we ran that Yeti bingo which was a a really good fundraiser for us. Um, and then last year we did just the Harlem Wizards and uh the craft show. And I mean the craft show is bringing in close to $9,000. So it's now we had a I oversold it by accident this year, but it still worked out. Um, we still we still made room for everybody, but so we it it just varies if
we get the vendors or not. So it's how often we push that out there. And that's what we've done in projects over the past few years. That's the total. And then I gave you guys a little bit of breakdown what we've done in the past couple years. And that was all last year, uh, last school year of what we did. That was the athletic banners. Um, we originally purchased them and then we had to do a few more. And we did the sound system in the fitness room. Wrestling needed a brand new wrestling mat, so we got them that. and track and field needed an emergency equipment repair before we could host another meet. So, we took care of that. Um, and the real concession stand, we got the brand new refrigerators. We were grateful
for that. And we got the drum major podium and the safety gloves for the boys lacrosse players. We bought 60 pair of those. And then drama got the the headsets. >> And that's just our kiddos. That's why we do it. >> I'm sorry. Where did you say that the n the $9,000 coming? >> Craft show. >> Any questions? Then we have the grants. Yeah. If you guys don't have any questions, I can do the grants. >> Yeah, go for it. I think we're good. Yeah. >> Can you >> You starting with the strength? >> I am. Yeah. That's uh for Coach Bond. >> Yep. >> This is for his um strength and conditioning that we've done for him for the past couple years. It's for him to get more training experience and for the um
sprint training system. And we did um I believe it was quote number three, the one that we went with. >> Yeah, it was. >> Yep. Quote number three is the one that we approved. >> And then the next one I'm going to invite Mr. Hawkins to come down because this is a big daddy. So this one is um I have really this is my last year so I've really talked with Dr. Hartman um I really wanted to find something that we could do as a BA that just was I can say we did that. Um, and with us coming up and putting in a new floor and redoing the reel, um, I actually messaged Frank when we first hired him and I said, "So, hey, I want to get scoreboards and stuff." So, this kind
of came from here. Um, and then when he came on board, we kind of went a little bit more, but this would be um, for scoreboards, score tables, and what the shot clocks, which will be required coming up anyway. Um, but then we had thought once talking with Mr. Johnson, we could take the what's there now and it would become new to UEA. So, we would be able to reuse what is there. We currently use a scoring table with a little cardboard table beside because we don't have enough room for everybody that's there. And I that's that's where this kind of came from. So, he got quotes together for me. Some of them threw me for a loop and then other ones we didn't. We approved as a um as a group we approved quote
one but I if you want to explain it. >> Sure. >> So good evening. Um so the three quotes you see there are for um it's called a digital scoreboard and also a regular scoreboard or electronic scoreboard led as well as shot clocks scores table which will all kind of inter intertwine. The reason why is because the current scoreboard that's in real the message system is non-functional and cannot be replaced. Um certain certain components are no longer existing. So that's why it's not not currently active. So in doing so in accordance with the PIAA who just passed the uh shot clocks for uh install and and to be um ongoing the 2028 school year. Um, obviously all districts are going to be looking to acquire those as well. >> For those of us who are
not real sportsminded, could you explain what a shot clock is? >> I sure can. So, at the collegiic level, there are 35 seconds or 40 seconds to get a shot off. So what PIAA has asked to do is speed up the game for the high schoolers because people typically would hold the ball for an extended period of time. The shot clock would allow the game to kind of progress instead of just stalling and you know just kind of stalemate. >> So that's for basketball. >> It is for basketball. >> That part I know. >> Thank you. >> You're welcome. So in in acquiring this system, we would actually be able to replace the current uh scoreboards that we have right now, the digital scoreboard is going to be um several layers of components that we
could utilize. So one, it's going to be advertisements and also advertising the game itself. The dacttronic quote is the quote that we are actually asking for only because that uh quote encompasses an educational piece that actually comes with a DAC classroom. So, it's actually curriculum that we could actually install here for our students to be able to um begin acquiring the skills to become broadcasters, become uh digital media components. So, they can actually take that onto the next the next venture. There's another component to it as well. It's called the um uh the digital connect which is which is that so any college that actually utilizes dacttronics. So 80% of the market right now utilizes Dacttronics. Anyone who utilizes that, they can get um scholarship to go to that school and have automatic work as
soon as they arrive on campus. So not only will this give us a functionality of our of our of our reel, but also give our students another educational component that that they're able to utilize uh beyond these four walls. Uh in addition to the scoreboards, obviously the shot clocks are coming as well as the scores table. So the current scores table is about 10 feet. Uh the new scores table will be about 20. That will actually house the laptop that is encompassed with this. The uh possession arrow and also every every person who's able to uh work the scoreboard will actually be sitting at that table. So it seats nine comfortably. And this is all for the real gym. >> Gotcha. I know one question that came to mind was obviously we have a couple
different gyms over there. Is this process eventually going to need to be repeated in some other gyms? Like what are the because I know they do they seem to do basketball in one, volleyball in the other at least as far as I'm aware. I always see cars out there so I somebody's in there doing something. But in terms of just in in the idea of this display and scoring across like all the high school facilities, is this something that has to be revisited again? Because I know these it said they hadn't been replaced since 2010. >> Yeah. >> Right. So 15 years old. Obviously things get outdated like you'll put this stuff in it'll be outdated in 5 seconds. But beyond that, right, >> what is what is the scope of this as we kind
of move on? >> So this is is is functional with all sports. So right now we have anything we have in real will be able to be functional with this. So if we host a volleyball tournament, if we host a wrestling tournament, if we host graduation, anything we do in there, we can actually host on that uh digital screen and actually use it for an educational component as well for PE classes. >> Very cool. >> And the powerpoints that are attached, those are kind of just the mockups of >> Yeah. >> know displays. I sent everything over. >> Do I understand that that there's a video portion to this? >> A video? Yes. >> And what is that used for? >> So, what we can do is and what we're planning on doing is allowing
our students to operate the camera systems. So, they will actually shoot each game live and broadcast as well. >> Oh, for broadcast. >> Like I I looked at this and I thought, why would you need to have the game on the screen when you're watching the game? Uh, may I is this the Cadillac of these scoreboards or they are pretty well standard? >> It is not. So, this is the the the Cadillac is actually uh digital scoreboards. Um, that one was over $100,000. >> It was it was about >> that does not come with here anyhow. >> But that about $114. >> That didn't come with an educational component. The key to this is I want to make I want to make sure that our students have something beyond these four walls. >> Okay. Okay.
I got a little lost as to why we were buying for video. >> Yeah, >> I understand that. Thank you. >> My eyes do the same. >> I'm remembering our freight farm experience. Are we going to need any extra electric for this? Any extra support in the facilities? >> Everything that we need is within that quote. Everything, wiring, installation, everything we need is in that quote. >> And what is a normal ex life expectancy >> right now? These digital scoreboards, uh, they're making them smarter. So if and if a piece of it, sort of like that TV screen, that TV screen, the LCD screen will be made up of 20 different screens. So you can actually replace one little piece instead of the entire screen. So the life expectancy is far greater than what we've
experienced with our other sort of TV screens or LCD screens. Yep. >> So 20 years >> possibly 20 years, 25 years, but you're going to be replacing parts just like you would dissimilarly with your car >> as long as you maintain it and take care of it, you're going to you're you're going to extend the life of it. >> Thank you. >> And what is the difference between number one >> and number three? Like why is number three the most? So number three comes with a lot of bells and whistles and a lot of subscriptions. So we do not want subscriptions. We don't that added additional cost every year. >> So again, Dacttronics has installed all of those things within that one cost. >> Okay. >> Y >> any other questions? >> Good question. >>
Okay. And you need approval for from the board tonight. So, could I get a motion to approve the two BAA grants as presented? >> Oh, I I do have a question. >> Sure, go for it. >> Um, from what I saw the balance, >> how how were we paying for this >> comes out of the BA >> out of the BAA account, >> which we have plenty in. >> We do have over a hundred,000. >> We have over 267,000. So, this was why we finally wanted to come up with something. >> Thank you. >> Big ticket. >> Yeah. >> Mrs. Gra asked about the account and we we promised we had something big coming and this was it. >> Thousand dollar a lot of money to just sit there and do nothing. >> It is.
And we still have fundraisers that we're doing and >> and you've got uh two big fundraisers to come. So, that's going to go even right. And the >> it's my concern that you know you taken a good uh amount of money and granted that this is a very generous uh grant but that still leaves >> we said the same thing. >> You're going to have like what 150 200,000 in that >> and we still have the wizards to go and we still have the money from the craft show. We we are fine. We are okay, but we just >> we needed a very big ticket item that more people could use in in the school district and >> and this has been on my thing,000 sitting there. >> Yeah. >> And >> I'm just sad
my own kid. >> I'm wondering if you need to continue to to fill that coffer, >> right? >> You know, uh every single year where you've got that much sitting there, >> right? I mean, some of that that money for the uh participation fees and such uh could save our kids and our families some money if we would wave it for a year. >> Yeah. >> Or put it in our general fund. >> Yeah. >> Something. I mean, it it seems to me that it's not earning its place in that bank account. >> Yeah. We we did get grants, just so you guys know, we we did get grants um last year that we never got to see. it didn't make it past the first stage of who would have to approve it and who
wouldn't. So, there were things that got sent back to clubs that we weren't aware of or we probably would have spent some more money last school year, but we didn't we didn't get to see that on our side yet because of the way we have the system set up. So, it got stopped at a certain part and we didn't get to see those. So, this was our way of saying, >> well, if they didn't qualify then, >> right, some did. Yeah, we weren't sure. So, >> but that doesn't change the fact that you're sitting going to be sitting on $200,000 and there's no reason for that in my mind. >> So, we need to have a really a serious discussion. >> So, basically what you're saying is is that you had projects that you did
not that had grants that you did not know got approved or unapproved. Is that what you're saying? >> What I'm saying is there was there's a process to it and it didn't make it to the second phase because it didn't make it from the original person. So, you're basically telling me that Dena didn't do her job correctly. Thank you. >> One of the things to Idat's point, I just wanted to uh comment, we've uh we've been meeting a lot with BA leadership with Shelley, but when I say we, Adele and I and Frank, uh I think we have a pretty good plan in place to spend down >> that this is kind of the first phase of that. I think you $100,000 big ticket item uh because we don't want it too big of a
fund ballet just like with our overall district budget. We we can't the optics of carrying too large of a fund balance uh don't always look good. So I think we have a long-term plan to get some of that down and to look at some of that what revenue is coming from the district if any to the BAA versus what what is just generated through their fundraising. So, there's a lot of moving parts right now and I think a lot in motion and we're trying to put some good make sure we I know Shel's concern is she wants to lead the BAA in good hands when when she steps away from it and she's been doing a great job. So, we're continuing to have those conversations. >> We are. It's this is a special place for
me. This is I have stressed on this all day, this meeting all day and it's just I would love to be able to say we did this. >> Well, I I have great faith in the BAA. I appreciate all they've done. I'm not trying to be berate you in any way. >> Oh, no. >> It's just it's not good financial management that much money. >> Well, we feel we can't keep saying to everybody, let's fund raise. Let's fund raise. Let's And we're not spending it. So, >> correct. >> Yeah. And if you were told you couldn't do it, then what are you supposed you're going to have a you're going to have an influx of cash if you're told no. So >> correct. >> How what are you supposed to do? You're going to have
additional funds. It's not everybody else's fault. So I move that we accept this as presented. >> Which one? Which one are you going with? >> We would like the Dacttronics one. >> Well, there's two. The first one. >> The first one. >> First one. >> What one? >> I think that was the 99,000. >> And what's the difference between that and the 97,000? The 97,000 was the one that had a lot of the subscriptions too and it didn't give the educational. This one really sold us because the kids can can get involved. >> So, do you need two separate motions for these or is it just one? >> We can do it for one. Yeah. >> I move we accept thatronics however you say it. >> Second. >> Vote as presented. >> All those in
favor say I. >> I. I. >> I. >> Did you catch the second on that, Mrs. Martin? >> I did. >> Okay, cool. >> We kind of talked over each other a little bit. >> What about the other? >> I need Yeah, I need Steve's grant, too. >> The other I knew I was going to. >> Oh, well, we actually did for both. You talking the strength grant and the board? >> I'm sorry. >> You did the strength grant and for the Yeah, we actually did for both. Both motion for Dronics. >> The motion was for Dronics. I can make a motion for That's why I asked if you wanted to. That's >> Yeah, I did say yes, but that's fine. Do a second motion. >> I move that we accept the strength quote as
presented. >> Second. >> All those in favor say I. >> I. >> Congratulations. >> Thank you. And I just want to say on a personal note, I've heard wonderful things about you as a new athletic director and you are a fresh you are a light that needed to be on there and >> we'll keep him for a little bit. >> You're doing a wonderful job >> and keep it up. Thank you. >> Sorry. Sorry. >> No, thank you. >> I knew I was going to get a motion. Thank you. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Oh, can I ask you too? You guys meet monthly. Can you just mention the the time when you usually meet and where >> we do it on Zoom now? It's been very productive since we moved to Zoom. We get way
more attendance than Sure. Okay. >> coming in and it's a first Monday of every month, but I thought we had off school last Monday, so I messed up. So, it's tonight actually, >> but it's the first Monday um at 7 o'clock, >> but it's always over Zoom. >> Gotcha. All right. So, >> and how do we access that? Um us well Mike Tally was our rep so um whoever is our rep but we can send everybody the agenda and the um minutes if you would want us to instead of just our committee member. >> Yeah, we'll talk about that. That might not be a bad idea. >> Yeah. >> Awesome. Thank you. >> You're welcome. Thank you. >> Absolutely. >> All right. So now it's time for the annual SRO report with Mr. Werner. Yeah,
let's come on up here. I don't want to feel lonely. >> Thank you. >> Are they like your bodyguards? >> I kind of like the optics. He needs them. He He's He's their bodyguard. Ladies and gentlemen of the board, good evening. My name is John Warner and I'm your director of safety and security. Um, the school resource officer program has been a part of the Knosoga Valley School District since 2002. And since 2002, uh, we've been fortunate enough that each of our school resource officers have been specifically trained and, um, rigorously selected. Next slide, please. Officer Chad Snater is our school resource officer at the high school. Officer Sam Goss is our middle school school resource officer and he also covers the elementary schools. Throughout the day, each school resource officer is not just merely
in the position as a police officer. They also fulfill different roles as um a counselor, mentor, um a teacher as well as being a law enforcement officer. Some of the things that they do um they deliver law related education to students. Um a big part of what they do is to build trust as a reliable mentor uh as a part of the district. Uh they also um as we can't get away from it, but they also conduct thorough crime investigations. They also uh maintain safety and security uh through all of our buildings throughout the district. >> Our SRO's are actively engaged. These guys are a little modest. >> Okay, they only gave me two pictures. I'm sure that there were a lot more, but um this was from our bonfire event here at the at
the district. >> Mhm. >> John, I had a picture that involved the groundhog. I could have shared with you if you ask me from last year. Some of our SR >> I think I got involved in that a little bit too. >> You I don't think you had animal control listed in all the hats that are worn. Maybe that >> there are many hats. There are many. So, um there are lots of different things that our guys do. Uh one of the things I like to highlight about the this program specifically is that um this is a unique combination. Uh we expect our officers to be prepared for any kind of eventuality. Should it be an active shooter, should it be um maybe a disgruntled parent who comes to the building? um and at the
same time have the the kind of character that the students can relate to. I know it's a little bit difficult to tell from the pictures that I have here on my on this PowerPoint, but I've been very surprised about how willing our guys have been to engage with the students in each of the buildings. I know that the staff love them already, and they they forget about that other guy that used to be there. Um, our guys, they go through specific training. They also um are they they bring, let me put it this way. Uh, the two gentlemen sitting next to me are very modest. Okay, they didn't want to put a lot of things on the slide about all the things that they bring to the table, but they Officer Goss has been on
the force for 24 years. Officer Snater is It's 11 now, isn't it? >> Yeah. Yep. >> 11 years. And there's a lot of different things that that that they bring. Um I could tell you that one of the officers that's sitting here with me um won the the Medal of Valor for the county in 2014, but he won't tell you that. >> He might be sitting over here. >> We're trying to get your uh slide back, John. I'm not sure what's going on. So that that's okay. Um let let me just suffice by and end by saying this. Um there's lots of different things that have happened throughout the country where there are SRO's that have been in the SRO position and it's been a retirement gig. It's been something that well I've served my
time on the street. It's this is a nice opportunity for me to kind of ease into retirement uh without any thought for the kids and the staff that they're supposed to protect. That's not the case here. Our guys are ready to engage. Not only should there be some kind of danger that presents itself, but they also are willing to engage with the staff and the students and they're already a part of the community. Um, I think that's what we want and we're very fortunate that we have two officers that are so inclined to be here and act as our protectors. Thank you. >> Yeah, absolutely. Any questions for these guys? >> I have a question. Is it still true that as long as they serve as SRO, they don't qualify for promotion on the for?
>> No. >> You have to test you have to test for it. >> You have to test for it. >> Do you mean like be promoted while we're here? >> Yes. >> Like if we >> In other words, you're you both are employed to some extent and East Lamped Town. Correct. >> And when the SRO program was first started, >> whoever served that way could not get a promotion on the force. >> Well, there were some of us that couldn't get promoted, no matter what they did. >> I'm not sure if that's still the case. Now, if we were to test and get promoted, we would be removed from here. >> Okay. That that >> they wouldn't put a sergeant in this position. >> Okay. >> If that's what you're trying to say. I >>
I never understood why. We were just told they can't get tell them a little bit about their day. Um, we'll share some some funny things that happened to them through the day. And as they start to become more comfortable with them, they're more willing to share maybe some things that they wouldn't share with anybody else. Okay, >> that's where the mentorship comes in. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> O over the years, uh there was a time when the biggest thing the SLOs's had to do is break up fights, but now that seems to be more a thing of the past. Am I right? >> Uh I think this year we've had only one so far. Last year there was a handful of them, but daytoday absolutely not. That's not a regular occurrence by any means.
So I I would agree with you. Yeah, it's definitely not uh common. I'd say >> it's more what drugs are more common. >> Uh just >> I would say a variety of complaints. Mainly just I take probably mostly informations. Uh where somebody just tells me something that happened to them and we want to put it on paper. Uh that way if we need to go back to it, harassment, stuff of that nature. um not necessarily somebody's getting cited for something, but just >> I'm just documentation. >> I'm noting the change in student behavior from some years ago. >> Yeah, it could be as much as a conversation to have with a kid and we're just documenting it in a report. >> Okay. >> I imagine it's intimidating enough just to know that one of you
guys are aware of something that has happened um to maybe have to it's more resistant to a follow-up uh incident then. >> Yeah. Just the conversation itself has a big impact a lot of the time affecting the behavior. So I think personally I found some good success with just telling the kid this is on file and that usually does something. >> Yeah. >> Any other questions? >> Well, definitely on behalf of the district and the board, thank you guys for serving. I know just having the presence of you guys there. Oftentimes um definitely makes parents and I know all the employees and staff and everybody that's associated feel much better. I I definitely liked the attention you guys were getting at the bonfire. >> Um I noticed lots of our our youngest were over there
checking out all your equipment, vehicles, and all the things. So that was cool. It's always good to see that there's still so much interest in just law enforcement in general, but also the way you guys serve and uh watching how you were with the community and stuff. It's just really appreciated. So, thank you very much. >> Thank you. >> All right. >> Thank you, >> gentlemen. >> Yeah, we having issues with it. Okay. >> Um, now that since we're having issues with the TV, it's a good time to have uh Mr. Begral come up for our technology budget overview. >> This might have been planned. budget doesn't escape. >> Dr. Hartman, are you able to project to that one? >> I am trying and every time it I get the could not connect the TV
do boardroom box that comes up. >> Okay, >> it just spins. >> We do have it on our iPads. >> Yeah, we do have the presentation on the iPad. So, okay, >> I'm going to give it a shot just in case. >> Okay, >> there. Yep. >> All right. >> Okay. Uh, apologize for the technical difficulties. I'll have to send something to John. But, ironically, it'll dovetail well into a slide in my presentation. uh based off of what I think happened here. So, uh good evening everyone. I'm Adam McGra, director of instructional technology here for the district. I help lead uh the department uh with Dylan Propes uh who uh shout out to him who's going on his honeymoon and be boarding a plane tonight to Costa Rica, which is very exciting. Uh very dedicated.
He's been with the district for 14 years um and started as a technician with us. Uh so very excited with him. Otherwise, he'd be here with me tonight. Um last year when we gave this presentation I had uh started off with this slide talking about Maslo's hierarchy of needs. I had kind of likened to, you know, human needs and I decided to adopt an idea of it tech or IT needs for the tech department and what those would be and uh All right. So then before you Hey, look at that. We got power back. Um is the consent agenda u from the items that we discussed um from last week. Um are there any questions about the consent agenda? I would move we approve the consent agenda. >> Second. Can I get a roll call
vote, please, for that? >> Do I need a roll call or is that in all those? >> Here's a roll call. >> Okay. Yep. >> Miss Trobridge. >> I. >> Mrs. Gra. >> I. >> Mr. Benigno. >> Hi. >> Mr. Eie. >> Mrs. Capka. >> Hi. >> Mrs. Fischer. >> Hi. >> Miss Gibler. >> Hi. >> Mr. Gensel. >> It's a seven to zero vote. Great. So we have one item for our action discussion agenda and that's the review and approval of resolution resolution not to exceed index with Miss Huninger. >> Good evening. >> So every year uh PTE issues the uh act one index which uh for the 2627 budget year it's going to be 3.50%. It used to be that we could file for exceptions in order to increase our real estate tax
millage rate higher than um the index amount. However, since we are now receiving uh the ready tolearn adequacy supplement, we cannot exceed the index. But we either way, we still have to have this uh resolution approved regardless. I know. I I >> We have to pass a a uh an approval to do something we have to do. >> Yes. Right. That's a good way of putting it. >> I move we we accept the resolution as presented. >> Second. >> Can I get a roll call vote, please? >> Mrs. Gra, >> I. >> Mr. Benigno, >> I. >> Mrs. Capka >> I >> Mrs. Fischer >> no >> I miss Gibler >> I >> Mr. Gensel >> I >> and Miss Trobridge >> I >> motion passes. >> I don't know what I would have done
if you had not voted in favor. >> All right. So you can see the reports that are under the information agenda. The finance and operations report, curriculum and instruction report. Any questions about either one of those or anything that needs to be discussed? >> Um anything on the federal funds side of things? No, nothing significant to report. >> Okay. And no admin policies to review either. So then board reports. Um IU13 report. >> IU hasn't met yet, but I still have uh last they're slower this year. You're always a month behind now in getting me the report, but you have one from last year. We meet this Wednesday, so I'll catch up next month. >> Perfect. And then PSBA. for PSBA. Uh you've already mentioned that we've got this this came out late >> and
they're already talking about they won't they won't formally announce the results of their officer elections until February. >> I don't know why, but they're going slow. Not that we're holding our breath as to see who won. Uh I will mention two roughly three issues. uh they have added a u a shortage of substitutes to their teachers and bus drivers uh as being a problem in a lot of school districts. If you have a teacher out and don't have a sub to go in the kitchen today, you know, of course you're going to put just put a body in there to take care of it. We all know about the bus drivers. Uh, a couple interesting things. Uh, if you notice, uh, if you bother to read the article, in 26 states, there's 2100 schools that
are using a 4day school week as a money saver. There are pluses and minuses to go that we can talk about if anyone's interested in later. Uh, the other thing that happened was, uh, there was a a lawsuit about amending our agenda. uh there were three ways we could amend it and they added one thing in the law to say this is how you do it. you take a vote. And some school districts were saying, "Oh, well then there's four ways of doing it." And there was a big fight about this and the the uh the fir the first court said, "No, there are three ways to amend your agenda uh at the meeting at the last minute." And even though uh you're allowed to, you still have to vote to do that. And recently
there was yet another lawsuit and the uh the justices ruled just the opposite. They said actually the way the law is written they use the wrong uh conjunctions. They use and instead of or whatever and they came out with this very long explanation where now if we want to change the agenda the night of a meeting all we have to do is vote to do it. I expect a after getting all my papers together for you and amending the agenda, they nullified it. But I expect that's going to go to to court and be uh be questioned or the legislature will fix it. Uh I'm not sure uh that I wouldn't like that to be fixed because uh although there are times when something comes in at the last minute we'd like to put in
the agenda, I don't think it should be done easily. >> That sort of counter the whole idea of the sunshine law. So I very rarely that I'm in favor of >> uh the way they they interpret one of these laws. This is one with the sunshine that I I don't I don't think it's it's not that a lot of school districts would be uh unreliable, but some will. And I I think it keeps us on our toes knowing that, you know, we can't just walk in here and add things to the agenda and vote on them and nobody knew we were going to do it. Uh too much room there for abuse that I think we need to avoid. But other than that uh and I have nothing yet from uh the um the academy
but I'm going to jump ahead with others while I'm talking and that would be th uh the education foundation they will be or they have chosen a new executive director but they haven't announced it so I can't give any names until they have a meeting and make it formal. When does how does their term work for president? When does Dr. Huskin when is he done officially as executive director? >> That's not a term. Executive director is a hire. >> Oh, that's a hire, right? For the president. >> That's a hire. So he, you know, he stated executive director till he finally said, you know, I'm leaving. >> When is he leaving again? I think >> December. >> Okay. He's done. >> Yes, he's done. >> Okay. >> Yeah. He once said that when he retired
he was going to do something outside of education and it didn't quite work out that way. >> No, he didn't make it. >> Yeah, he's got he's gotten a lot a lot done in there. >> For sure. >> You may have gotten email from their alumni people. They have a a company they hired to try to um have a more robust alumni organization. So, especially if you're actually an alum. I got it from woman. I'm not an alum, but I get someone on on the list. But, uh, if you do get something from that, it's appreciated if you respond to it or provide whatever they want. They're trying to build a good strong alumni uh, following. >> Yeah. Um, Lancaster CCC is actually having their reorg meeting tonight, which is where uh, Mr. Eie is,
so I'm sure he can report on that um, next month. Um, construction team update um, is attached. You can see uh the only thing I would point out is the last picture has the phrase finishes and initial cleaning has been completed in many rooms in preparation for punch list inspection by the architect and district. I so love to read those words because it means we're getting close to the end of the project which is nice and Leola really is looking great there. They're doing a great job then. Um any other reports? This is the second time in the meeting for addressing the board for anybody that has a public matter they wish to discuss >> or public left. >> Yeah, there's no public left. Um board comments and initiatives. Is any any other comments or
initiatives from the board? I have one thing I want to touch on, but I want to give everybody a chance to if there's anything. So the board assignments, um Dr. Hartman's been working on a Google or a uh Excel doc um which we can't pull up, but we'll make sure we get it shared. There's there's still a couple holes in here that we want to get filled. Um if any of you knowing that any of the existing board members, if you're serving on any boards and you would you don't want to continue to serve on those, let me know and we'll get those assignments shifted. Um there are one thing would be the BAA board which I mentioned to Miss Gibler um which she might be able to sit on. Another one maybe to consider
is one that I'm stepping off of which is the community partnership coalition which really meets about once a year but it's so community focused and it's kind of an easy listen to to break in and just hear what some of the things are happening. actually think you might enjoy that and it's like I said it's really low-key so it's a great one to break into. Um Mr. Benigno construction committee you served on that I think in your you were never on that one previously. >> Okay. Would you be willing to take my spot on that one which just meets before a board meeting every once in a while if >> that's what you want. Yeah. >> Yeah. If you're okay with that. And then also um district safety committee. Do you want Phil to serve
on that one? Are you still connected to that one? >> I'm still on it, but I haven't been invited. So, I don't know what's going on. I know. >> Okay. >> And that's obviously something we need to make sure that all the invitations and everything. Um, that's something that Dr. Hartman's been working on to make sure all the assignments and when meetings are every and everything is all laid out pretty. >> And speaking of that's what happened when I was on the BAA one a couple years back. They were having meetings and I didn't even know they were I had no information. They got the last couple years when Mike was on, they got a lot better at making sure he was on the emails. So, and whenever we make a final decision, I plan
on reaching out to all the leads of all these committees and with all who Yeah, it will make sense. Yeah, >> that before too. >> Yeah, we have. We'll see if we can get a little better with it this time. So, but um >> they can get a little better with >> Yes. Right. I was using the collective Wii. Um, there's also the there's a special education plan and stakeholder team which I might recommend if Diane Martin's willing to do that. She has own special education that's right up her alley. Um, >> and then there's also another one called Connections Village that Dr. Hartman's been a part of um that was started which could use some board presence. I'm just going to sit on that one initially because it's not really established. Um, but it's
the same thing. it's kind of a activities and happenings as people share what's kind of happening within district and stuff. >> Mhm. >> Um the one that I do want to mention to is we created or Dr. Hartman created the AI task force. Um at this point we really feel after having a discussion that there's really no need for board representation on that yet because there hasn't been a whole lot to report. Um it went from creating a task force to look at all these wonderful opportunities they have to go and talk about AI which didn't really need to concern us except to be proud of our administrative you know being able to >> very heavy tech one too right >> for sure. So obviously and same thing with what u Mr. McGraw was sharing
like um as things come up with AI we're going to be involved in that kind of from the get-go anyway. So, that will be one that we'll be crossing off from a board representation. >> But when the time does come, I recommend >> would you share that list with everyone? >> Yes. Yep. Yeah. Dan has the Excel spreadsheet. We'll make sure that gets out to everybody so you can see what you're signed up for. >> And just so everybody with the AI task force, what we've decided to do is we're breaking into that committee is sort of breaking into three smaller committees for the rest of this year >> that are very taskoriented on like developing a training for teachers on ethical use. like it it's very task oriented. >> We have kind of a
a multi-phase process. Eventually, one of the parts of that committee is going to be community engagement. >> At that point, we're probably going to circle back and ask for some board representation to be on it. >> Makes sense. >> But if it's very tech heavy, I recommend that be on that committee. >> I did you hear that? Phil recommended you be on the any board that has high-tech stuff. >> Oh, yeah. I'm just the one for that. I have to spend the first hour explaining If your le if your left arm happens to flail out, will you get one free hit in tonight on Mr. Ben? Um, all right. So, the dates are there listed as well, January 12th, 20th for the next board meetings. And do not forget the board retreat on the 26th
starting at 6. Um, if there's nothing else, I will take a motion to move to executive session to discuss our um, award of excellence nominations. >> So, moved. >> Second. All those in favor >> I >> end of the meeting. Thank you.
