Mr tachelle here Mr eifert here Mr Emig here Mrs Herman here Mrs Meese here Mr rawhauser here Mrs Whitmer here Mr Wolverton here eight present okay we'll start with our student board representative report I believe is Brooklyn here tonight Brooklyn is not I know Camden is college shopping today so okay we'll get yes he's in Georgia Camden is but I was seeing if Brooklyn was here all right uh presentations envirothon connects live Elementary good evening board members it is my absolute honor to welcome our 2022-2023 connects and envirothon teams I'd also like to thank Mr Judy and Mr Murphy for coming this evening and for coaching these fantastic students and I'd like to give a huge shout out to the kids for spending part of their evening this evening to Showcase what they are working

so hard at live elementary school so without further Ado our connects and envirothon teams good evening my name is Jeff Judy I am a fifth grade science and social studies teacher at live Elementary Mr Murphy and I back in 2017 and we're trying to bring stem opportunities to the students collaboration critical thinking 21st century 21st century skills and one of the things that we found through our Liu was the connects competition and this is completely voluntary for all of us and and we we just loved it um you can go to the next slide um we we just love the challenges and we started in 2017 just taking the kids to Liu to the competitions we found that what we saw from the kids was something that we weren't seeing as much of in the

classroom and that was just the level that these kids can can go to so we're just really pumped about what these kids have done so I want to tell you a little bit about the stem design challenge every year the Liu has a stem design challenge you can use connects it has kind of morphed into you can use any types of materials but it's typically to solve a environmentally friendly problem or environmental problem could be an appliance for for a house and basically it's Innovation it's just getting these kids to think in ways that they can innovate and create something it's a whole process and we do it for a few months they start off by researching environmental problems and then they they try to come up with a solution to that problem and then

they build their design they come they have a design notebook that they uh they have to fill out the whole entire time take picture features they go through the engineering design process and they also make blueprints and then we have a competition live we go to the Liu they take the their whole design apart and then they have to put it together in two hours and they compete against many schools Mr Murphy maybe 30 to 40 schools so we compete against 30 to 40 different teams uh and and they have two hours they have to build this design under pressure and they have to give a presentation it's amazing you should see these kids go it's unreal and so this year uh we we received first place in in the region so which was really

exciting um and one of the things that I love that before I let the kids kind of take over one of the things I love about this design challenge is is they are competing against their peers so when we when the coaches step back and watch these kids compete against their peers it's it this is what the job landscape's going to look like for them in 10 years it's going to be them competing for with innovative ideas and in the engineering Fields possibly but it just really took the teamwork and the collaboration to another level and we're just really proud to see what our future is going to look like especially with kids like this driving it forward so we thank them and we'll take it from here um Annie I believe they're going to

tell you a little bit about our design low-income countries are suffering major health risk through the air and water pollution these developing countries have factories that are built near waterways and are run on fossil fuels in India for example for not only the people and animals but also the environment we didn't we couldn't decide whether to solve the problem of air or water pollution so we decided to tackle both here's our solution introducing the triple P the pollution preventer and purifier our first part of our design is the pollution preventer the fan blades inside the this design Will Go On Top of smokestacks the fan blades inside redirect the pollution through these tubes into the water purifier powering the water purifier cleaning the water of nearby waterways we found that scientists figured out how to

turn CO2 energy it's called ccus or carbon capture for short the CO2 is infused into the water in our purifier the water becomes more addict a kick dick and reacts with the cathode in our purifier and electricity is released the electricity then Powers our water purifier bringing clean water to the people our our invention powers itself it stops pollution from entering the air and uses it uses it to power our water purifier we believe that our invention can save the lives of millions and we we also believe that it can help save the planet thank you kids this is Annie lamb Hunter Whetstone Garland Marshall and we're missing Mia mitzel she felt sick today after her softball game so she couldn't make it but we're headed to the state competitions May 12th and we just

wanted to thank you and thank everyone who's green lit Mr Murphy and I's Endeavors we've been doing this since 2017 trying to bring opportunities to the kids to to do these kinds of things to compete to you know do the hard work of the research the building be under pressure give a presentation and these students were judged on four different things their their design notebook the blueprints that they had to hand draw their design itself and then their presentation and they got a perfect score this year which was awesome yeah it was really amazing perfect score one of the one of the most funny one of the great things is it's very intimidating to go to these competitions and see all the designs from the other kids but we could hear the chatter of the

other schools walking by like oh no we're done so that was encouraging for us because obviously we were nervous but other kids really we could see how they liked our design and we knew we had the full package because we were we worked really hard but we're really pumped May 12th we're gonna head to the farm show complex I believe and compete for the states so it'll be great so thank you for listening foreign I just wanted to say one thing I did misunderstand you they are 12th graders right I have no idea what they just said it was wonderful yeah it's it's okay um we we like Mr Judy said we've done this since 2017 and over the years we've had a lot of success a lot of opportunities to compete at the state

level we've created amusement park rides we created during the pandemic uh a device that you hook on to stationary bikes so that the amount of iPad time kids got was determined by the amount of exercise that they put in um last year we figured out or tried to come up with a way to use wave power to create a hybrid ship for uh ocean uh cargos so over the years we've learned a lot ourselves so it's been a great opportunity the other extracurricular science opportunity that we have for our students at live is in vireathon this is something the district supports and has throughout for the elementary schools the middle school and I believe even at the high school level We Begin I began envirothon about 15 years ago uh just because I enjoy science

I enjoy giving kids opportunities to learn more than just what we do in the classroom and so we have a yearly envirathon team uh the notes on the board just tell us it's the largest Environmental Education competition in the nation um actually in Japan they have envirothon as well and prior to uh 2020 students from Japan came and competed in the North American High School competition uh for envirothon as well so students across the United States participate in envirothon we learn about environmental science uh through team building sportsmanship stewardship independent research skills we have the opportunity to learn at the third and fourth grade level which is the team that I brought with me tonight some representatives from that team at the third and fourth grade learn about Wildlife we learned about Aquatics and we

learn about forestry so students come uh once a week before school and put in extra work at home learning about different topics that the York County Conservation District provides for us it's very important for our students to learn what it means to be good environmental stewards of the natural resources of the land that we have underneath our new state standards in science there's uh new standards underneath environmental literacy and sustainability which then buyerthon definitely hits for our students and now we're going to be doing that even more on a daily basis in our classrooms tonight to help you guys understand maybe a little bit about what envirothon is like I brought my students with me and we are going to divide up with you and take a little envirothon quiz so just so you get

an idea of what they are expected to do uh in may we will go to a competition at John Rudy Park where they will be tested on everything that they've spent the past five months learning in those three areas they have 30 minutes to take a test in forestry 30 minutes in Aquatics 30 minutes in wildlife and they are very strict on the timer I will tell you that um they each test is about 50 to 60 Questions and they have to work together there's only one answer sheet they have to work together and uh share what they have learned over that time so tonight we have a 10 question quiz and to keep it fair I did not tell them the questions either so I'm going to divide them up amongst you if that's

okay we need four teams there's only 10 questions all right so four teams Ben can you join can you join them you just walked over there yeah yeah but we don't like sit down here buddy quiet um We join you two guys Perfect all right College you go with Mr eisberg and Dr Clark height and then oh not at all [Laughter] the remaining board members all right so one one answer sheet per team agree on your answers yeah and then this last document is a dichotomous key that you're going to need for one of the questions so dichotomous key is necessary for question number 10. so I'll just go ahead and pass that out all right question number one which amphibian has dry skin that is warty and bumpy a frogs B toads C salamanders

just write the letter on the line all right question number two green plants convert the sun's energy or its heat into food during what process photosynthesis or condensation A or B all right question number three identify the fish species is that a bluegill northern pike smallmouth bass or walleye so A B C or D ude question number four if you if you need more time please please let us know all right question number four did it skip question four it did okay so um do you do you have the is it the Google slider did you download it it's okay number four just count as a freebie like kind of like that free space in bingo so that will that will count for you guys all right number five we'll go to number five then

which of the following are renewable resources so select all that apply a white-tailed deer B eastern white pine C col D Oil so which are renewable resources yeah I know all right question number six uh we had to repeat can we go to seven there was some typos there I thought I fixed them this afternoon but that's okay number seven again another freebie it's a good night here number seven thing trees that are diseased or sick can help keep a forest healthy true or false all right question number eight true or false you would most likely find a raptor and a cavity nest foreign all right number nine true or false planting invasive species would be helpful to the bird population in your neighborhood and then question number 10 this is where you need the

dichotomous key so hopefully these gentlemen will be able to explain the dichotomous key to you it's a it's kind of like a puzzle if you like Puzzles if you don't like puzzles you're not going to Lake the dichotomous key you have to look at the picture and follow the different steps from one and it kind of tells you where to go until you identify the species that's on the screen so start with one a and one B decide if the trees the leaves are deciduous or Evergreen and then you just follow the steps to determine what species of tree that is a picture of agree with you and make sure you list out all the steps of the dichotomous key so make sure you list all the steps that you follow to get to your

species answer [Music] when your team is ready just give me a thumbs up that you are ready to go over the answers oh thank you all right are you guys good perfect thank you Ben you guys almost all right oh let's see how we did number one do you mind if we go back I'm so sorry I usually have a clicker in my classroom that I love that clicker it's great uh number one which amphibian has dry skin that is wordy and bumpy it's B toads so B is the correct answer number one number two green plants convert the sun's energy into food during a photosynthesis number three the fish species anyone want to take a guess why it that is D the walleye so that is the walleye number four was our freebie number

five renewable resources answers Colin what did you guys come up with A and B is correct so both plants and animals are renewable okay we talked about how they reproduce quickly so even though you use that one deer and you're not going to use that same deer again they can reproduce quickly and it doesn't take our whole lifetime to become a renewable resource so A and B worth the correct answers number six uh we skipped number seven cutting trees that are diseased or sick can help keep a forest healthy Ben what did you guys think number seven that is true okay cutting getting rid of those are healthy for the forest number eight you would most likely find a raptor in a cavity Nest Luca false is correct cavities are inside a tree holes inside

a tree Raptors make big nests out of sticks usually on top of trees or other platforms number nine planning invasive species would be helpful to the bird population in your neighborhood that is false the invasive species are not supposed to be here we want native species to help our plant or to help our ecosystems and then number the dichotomous key anyone willing to to risk an answer Wyatt it is the eastern white pine what were your steps to get there 1B and then it says [Music] so seven eight is the needle like waves are three to five inches long with five needles per bundle and 7B says the tiny leaves have two forms scale light and needle light that would be an Eastern red cedar but there's no scale like needles on that Branch so

it was 7A correct excellent explanation so it was 1B 7A eastern white pine so that just gives you a little taste of what our students do in vireathon and that's just the third and fourth grade level uh I've coached fifth and sixth grade at our school as well and it gets much more challenging as we get to fifth and sixth grade level much more content uh before we wrap up tonight just thank you for the opportunity to come uh Wyatt is going to close our part of the presentation with just a little testimony about envirothon since uh he's been involved in it for two years now he started with me as a third grader last year so I thought it would be best for you guys to hear from him about his experience with envirothon

why go ahead book yeah that's I don't know all right okay um all right good evening Dr Cartwright and good evening members of the board my name is Wyatt Markle and I am a fourth grader at live Elementary this is my second year on the envirothon team and virathon is very important to me because it provides an extra opportunity to do things that I like which includes spending time Outdoors observing wildlife and learning about animal and plant life I also enjoy envirothon because it provides a challenge for me which I appreciate I also like envirothon because I get to work together with people who understand the environment and appreciate it as much as I do when I grow up I would like to become a wildlife biologist so this is a very good learning experience

for me I also enjoy getting to spend extra time with Mr Murphy because he is a very good Mentor for me a very good Mentor for me and my love of science these are the reasons why envirothon is so important to me I am honored to be chosen to be one of the students that will represent live Elementary at this year's environment competition thank you thank you good job all right again thank you for the opportunity to come and just tell you a little bit about what we're doing at live any questions or anything we can answer I'd like to congratulate you students again um Colin really carried our team and that quiz I'd like to thank Colin for carrying us getting these answers right um and you know you all might remember that show

are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader the answer is no no so they did a phenomenal job let's give the kids another round of applause thank you very much thank you everybody okay that brings us to our first public comment period This is a 30-minute period for items on or off of the agenda I would ask that you state your name and address when you come to the podium uh 30 minutes three minutes per speaker so if anybody has anything they'd like to comment on please come to the podium sure we I'm sure we can't compete with the stem program that was awesome education Carl Carl virtual 3130 Barley Circle my wife Dottie thank you for your service to the community the challenge is what to include in the school program with the total amount

of money you have to so Stewart since you can't and shouldn't do everything you have to decide what to exclude and what to include you need to start with the correct ideology and world view when you're dealing with a school that that should include an objective core or basic factual Knowledge from without not subjective feelings from within there is only one objective truth not eight billion subjective truths this band with Dewey socialism and return to the time tested classical learning of grammar or facts Elementary School logic or reasoning middle school and rhetoric or understanding high school with the foundation of an inflective inflective language such as Latin and return to Lo in loco parentis when dealing with the school budget where you are stewards of someone else's money be careful that you are not using

it for for all kinds of social agendas programs like Dei CRT and all kinds of social bodily socializing agendas have no place in a school rather there should be human dignity director means Asked at the last meeting shouldn't we be spending only what we have the wherewithal to spend yes and begin with zero budgeting base budgeting as one example of budget trimming Mr Kendig asks if do we need three psychologists my question is do we need any psychiatrist psychiatrist these are schools not medical facilities education is about imparting knowledge not about how you feel otherwise this is all meaningless If you eliminate the Dewey socialism and include only this Edge the educational Basics you can easily balance the budget or even reduce it in my 50 years of education including one time once during a

substituting days teaching in in this District in all of the buildings I also was involved with uh 12 years in administration um at one time one of the most difficult things I could call upon to do was to uh dismiss two Personnel let them go we are called upon to teach core basic knowledge and Truth with within all the unnecessary governmental mandates you know what that basic knowledge and truth is I would encourage you to do the right thing and spend our money in on education like we saw tonight that's education not socialization it may mean eliminating some programs and Personnel Mr bushel objective truth basic curriculum and zero-based budgeting thank you okay anybody else Scott Miller 970 North Circle Drive I'm here tonight to talk about how we hire our staff and if we

base that on qualifications and experiences if we base that on qualifications and experience when we hire new employees I was here in uh February 2020 we had hired a new ad um I had asked Dr Croom what his experience was and she had said assistant A.D and I said well when was that and she said a few years ago and I pushed a little harder and it was actually in the 90s so it was two decades ago okay I didn't know any better so time goes on and it just bothers me like we put out a public job offering to the public and the best qualified candidate we had was somebody who was an exercise trainer 20 years ago so we didn't have an any athletic directors in the area apply for the job with

three five ten years made no sense to me I mean how could we are we that low that nobody came to apply or interview or or anything so time goes on no biggie and it always bothers me and I never liked the fact that you know I was told he was an assistant Ada and then the York Daily Record runs an article and says um he was recruited by Croom and he was actually an exercise trainer so then kind of made me mad that I felt like I was misled a little bit so still time goes on and I ran into a friend this past winter who uh was saying what's going on in Dover I said what do you mean I said well that family they moved to Northern I said they they were

tired I said I don't know why he says well I'll tell you why he goes That's the number one reason my mom retired from Life there was a lot of pressure and tension there I said oh so now I understand what we did we were looking to protect dover's Administration jobs primarily first or explain to me how we had nobody who applied for this job who had current experience 20 years ago is a long time so it's disappointing it's disappointing that my parents are early not you know I couldn't stand here and say anything if we paid seventy thousand dollars as a new higher e with no experience I couldn't be here but we dropped 107 000 of our taxpayer money on an inexperienced uh person it was wrong and I just I don't want

anything done I just hope that we never put what happened was we put the administration and if I'm wrong we put the administration in front of the needs of the students and the taxpayers because if we can't find somebody with more qualifications then please explain to me how that happened and if we go down the route of saying well you know we have this Activities Committee or we're just in charge of that okay send me an email somebody on this board of a week by week of what that job requires because we went from 70 to 107 000 dollars and it was for Student Activities so I would like to know what my taxpayer money has been paying for for the last two years there again I don't want anything to change I never want

us to put the uh Administration needs in front of the taxpayers or the students that's it thank you Mr Miller anybody else okay sing none we'll move on to word president's communication we did have two executive sessions we had one immediately following our last meeting last Tuesday and then we had one uh prior to tonight's meeting with that I'll move on to an item an action item that we have under board president's communication and at this time I'll entertain a motion to approve a settlement agreement for Dae SBA grievances dated May 18 2022 and March 17 2023. solo second we have a motion and a second Mrs almond motion carries six two the no votes Mr deshell Mrs meese okay thank you next we'll move on to our consent agenda so at this time I'll

entertain a motion to approve all items listed under the consent agenda we have a motion and a second I do want to remind everybody that we had the opportunity to discuss all of these items at last week's planning meeting but however I will continue to open up the floor for any other discussion on any of these items before we vote I'd like to mention to remove the uh Boyer emitter contract and table it for now please for further discussion I'll second that we don't need a motion or a second to do that we can just have one request to have that pulled do you want that pulled for a separate vote tonight or for a later vote at another meeting at another meeting please that wouldn't be prudent we can't vote at another meeting we

need to do it tonight unless you'd like to go with an audit firm and we do have federal funds so we do actually need to have an auditor in place that would be traditionally responsible but this just came to the table last week and now we have to vote on it this week it comes to the table around this time every year this isn't this isn't the first time this has happened can you get them closer to your life yeah sorry okay my concern is that we are rubber stamping here we have an auditor that is a five-year contract for an extreme amount of money so why wouldn't we have put out a proposal prior to last week's meeting if we knew we had to vote on it to this point I I'm just saying

this doesn't make sense that we would only discuss it within one week's time and have and have to have a vote on it so I'm just I'm confused right now why we can't at least put a request for a proposal out for some other a request for a proposal our year end is June 30th so all of the firms at this point have all of their clients in place therefore the chances of getting a firm are next to none and if there's only two firms in York County for the most part that are represented because it's not a it's not a money making audit it's more of a charity so there's a lot of firms that have gone out of doing school districts and not-for-profits for that exact purpose the other firm that is available

in this area has just declined Southwestern because they didn't have enough staff so when he put the proposal out he didn't get an answer or a proposal Boyer and Ritter has been with the district they are in a solid firm they're no higher than any of the other firms in this area boy and Ritter was named one of the top 100 organizations in PA by the Pennsylvania business Central the only other firm to have that was one in Western Pennsylvania they've made they were named one of the top 300 firms by inside public accounting for the last eight years they were also named one of the top 100 firms in the Mid-Atlantic area they have a solid reputation they're a good firm I'm a CPA I used to be an auditor and I worked for

pricewaterhousecoopers which is one of the biggest firms in the world I dismissed two of the four firms we had at Dallas town because they didn't meet my standards boy and Ritter was one that I did not dismiss I stand by the reputation that they have and the work they bring they don't charge us for any extra questions and the work they do is solid so you're not going to save any money going with another firm in fact you might spend more money because of the fact that a one-year agreement costs a lot more than when you lock into a five-year agreement or so you're actually going to spend more money get a RFP possibly that's going to cost the same amount as boy and Ritter by then you would have spent the additional money for

next year and when we have a deficit I wouldn't recommend that to the board so I I want to say Miranda thank you for all that information I wish I would have had that prior to last week's meeting um I I understand everything you're saying but it's still in my mind with the wheels turning with the budget you know I don't want to just assume and say yes to things so tonight I felt like I had no other option than what I just said because I didn't I was missing a lot of information does that make sense well I you know what I'm just going by what's on the board agenda on a regular basis and I have only been here three months but I'm a taxpayer as well so I I'm very prudent with

all the money that's been fiscally spent in this District yeah I'm not blaming you for not having the information about boy and Ritter it just showed up on the agenda right and now we're voting and now I'm hearing there was no option to to learn about any other firms so now the information is coming to me after the fact I think that it would have been more not that it was your negligence I'm saying somebody could have offered us more information about this process or the firms prior to last week's planning meeting so that way we were prepared and new ahead of time in the future I'll make sure that that's taken care of I don't know whose responsibility is I'm not pointing fingers at anybody I'm just saying that seems like a big deal

if we're going to say yes to a five-year contract with you know such a big responsibility for our district then I think that we should have more information on the background of it but thank you for offering all that information you're welcome I just recent ly leave it in the consent you leave it in the consent okay all right okay any other conversation discussion okay hearing none Mrs almond motion carry 7-1 no vote Mrs Whitmer okay thank you moving on to the York Adams Academy Mr Emig at our last meeting we had found out that we have 55 graduates to date possible of 90 until the end of of the school year and our next meeting will take place Tuesday April the 25th questions from Mr Emig rantino when graduation is for York Adams Academy

I think so let me see spring graduation will be June 1st at seven o'clock at what location will that be at do you know that yet that'll be at the old Central York High School okay all right thank you okay York County School of Technology Mrs meese good evening um actually nothing to really report um just typical typical stuff nothing out of the ordinary question for Mrs Meese yeah I had brought up at the last meeting they're looking about I guess building on or red and did you find anything out if they're going to charge any school districts extra for this so yes and no the planning stages that they're in like just the discussion of it it seems that it's going to be years years away years away so they're being very proactive and

just kind of talking about it so we can't answer they can't answer that question right now and I really just think you know being a developer it's going to take a long time [Laughter] we should but I'll keep you I'll definitely I get it I get it I yeah I'll definitely keep you posted I thought they were landlocked there are they still trying to buy the farm behind them isn't there a piece of land right there that they're when I was there they were talking about trying to purchase it but for some reason I I didn't think it was for sale that'd be the only way they could move they didn't specifically say um say that in particular so I was under the they didn't say anything about purchasing additional land I was under the

impression that they were going to use the land that they already had but I'll have to get more information like I said it's very very surface very surface level anybody else okay uh Dr Cartwright Liu special education I have have no report this evening okay Mr rawhauser legislative no report Mrs Herman Dave for Industrial Development Authority Wednesday okay Mrs Brenton is not with us Dr Cartwright superintendent's report thank you Mr President as always we have much to celebrate this month speaking of York Adams Academy we have a new graduate to celebrate Colette van Heise we'd also like to congratulate Kylie snellbaker for her beautiful rendition of our national anthem at the PIAA state championship 3A basketball games at the Giant Center recently April is National poetry month to celebrate the students in the high school

of how we did with that audit I want to call it an audit but I don't know if that's the right word yes oh I do know what I'm talking about um presentation yes oh darn um yeah I would just like to to hear how we did how our CTE program did with that and I can say too I know do know that he actively goes He actively pursues other grant opportunities and he has been awarded a supplemental Grant yeah the shed was paid for through another Grant he is very proactive paying for a lot of the needs yeah of the CT program so these costs can we get a breakdown of these costs the expenses like is that um I'm curious to see if that's administrative like salaries or is that tools and equipment

um supplies yeah I can break it down by salary a little bit more detail equipment yeah a little bit more detailed expenses sure okay that would be awesome thank you thank you for these numbers that's it okay Mr amig nothing okay Mrs Herman yes I have a couple things I'd like to say um so I've been hearing a lot of questioning in the community uh since I'm out in the community a lot and I need there's a couple things I really would like to address um I hear a lot about taxes and I'm really happy this year that it doesn't look like we're going to have to raise taxes I only know of one person in my entire life that ever said that she was pleased that she could pay taxes but my response to

the people that complain about paying school taxes is go where you need to go don't come and talk to us talk to Seth grow talk to and he's head of the education Committee in Harrisburg talked to Dawn Kiefer and talk to Mike Reagan they're up there they're in command of the money and that's where it needs to come from and if we hear that school districts around us and everywhere are are raising taxes then we all know that there's a need everywhere we need more resources from them so complain to them those are the ones holding the the strings um I also heard a comment made that parents ask questions and when they ask these questions they're told oh we'll get back to you but they never do and I don't know where that's coming

from because as a teacher in the district whenever we were whenever we had emails from parents or phone calls we were told you answered them that day and we I everybody I know I've always got back to parents um the same day they got the uh the messages and our Administration if you contact them and tell them exactly what you want they will they need to get materials two together to respond to you so that's all you have to do I've never had any problems with any of this so I don't know where this is coming from um there's been a lot of talk about Mental Health and what I need to say about mental health is this we have children coming to school now with lots of needs and we don't turn a child

away if they have a zero balance in their their cafeteria fund we don't say you can't eat we supply the food for them so we're supplying a lot of services that I agree we shouldn't have to but we do that's just the way it is nowadays and if we don't do those services and give them what they need they're going to give us nothing back because they have nothing to give back I've seen too many of them um transparency oh I don't know where this is coming from first of all we teach the state standards are on the Pennsylvania Department of Education website you go there and you see what the state tells us we have to teach so then we design our curriculum driven by these state standards so everything that we're teaching is

what the state is telling us we have to teach now if you want to see what the teacher is teaching as far as the curriculum goes then make an appointment go in and see them they write lesson plans I have seen them they are numerical all numbers because they have to write all the standards in their lesson plans that they are teaching then they write how they're going to present that so all you have to do is go and meet with the teacher so I don't understand why people think it's this big secret this transparency thing okay pssa concerning the Middle School the building score we ranked fifth out of 19 districts in the county I went back and checked on all this because Dr House did a wonderful presentation but I don't remember all

that so I went back and I checked everything all you do is go online again and everything is there for you to see the high school was eighth out of 17 in all subjects our scores were generally at or above the state average when I was still teaching and we I was giving I'm third grade I was giving the pssa and I used to get so frustrated because okay first of all you couldn't help the children so one year Fountain Pen was in one of the readings the fountain pen was but was I allowed to say anything no if a child skips an entire page in an answer booklet you could not tell them oh you missed a whole page so if their score went down because they oh simply you've done that you've turned

too many pages at one time we've all done that so they made a mistake in doing that they knew the material but because they turned too many pages or they skipped a page and answering their score was brought down but we couldn't tell them that so I used to tell my children this is what you do and you're done you take your finger and you go and you point to every circle on the page to make sure you haven't missed anything I used to see them at the end going like that little tips like that help them there's also a problem and I know it's still true today that they are giving the children passages to read that are above their grade level and I have to tell you what I did one year I

was so frustrated with a poem that I took it into Seth Grove and I said read the poem and answer the questions please I want you to see what we're dealing with he read the poem and he had a very difficult time with the questions so think about that a little bit when we're asking our children to do the same thing if they haven't had prior knowledge which by the way the state has suddenly decided is very important in learning to read prior knowledge if they don't know what a fountain pen is today I helped a first grader with the word was pop which we call soda I said do you know what pop is do you know what coal is the little girl knew it because she plays Minecraft but they don't know these

terms and yet we expect them in one test to Ace the whole thing and show the whole County how smart we are with one test one week of their life okay I'm done with the SSA um just a reminder that when we do vote in here it is up on the boards for everybody to see and Mrs Allman always gives it makes a remark about how everybody voted um so people can even on YouTube I've watched our our board um meetings on YouTube and it even shows it on there we did change the structure of our meetings when we were asked to by a board member concerning the consent agenda there was some concern there so we try to do what's right and I do not believe that religion belongs in the public school system

but I will say this about transgender one thing my pastor tells me he quotes the Bible judge not least you be judged and we're supposed to love and accept everyone that's all I have to say thank you Mr sermon Mr rawhauser but do you have anything no okay Mr deshow okay this is Whitmer I do two things one um it's not on the agenda tonight but it was on our planning meeting agenda policy it has to do with home education programs 137 I just want to just add for when this comes up again that there's a lot of red flags in there that we need to have some long and hard discussions about some of these things and how this policy does give impression to homeschoolers such as myself that there's a bit of discrimination

that we are being sought out and separated and held to standards that other children and families and households are not being held to so when that policy comes up I think that we need to be careful there's also some wording that does not match state law in how our policy is written out so that's also something I think could be problematic for the district so we need to keep our eyes open for whether or not that shows up in that manner again um but my other topic has to do with the budget and we hadn't haven't had any discussions on it tonight but I just feel as if we need to just start gleaming some more information that we haven't been given so I would like to request that we be given some more details

from the standpoint of the Departments and their line items their expenses Terry if you don't mind me repeating what we were talking about years ago this goes back years ago when I first came on the board they used to have budget meetings for each School we sat down at the old Administration Building over at where the current Middle School is they had the building to the left of that we sat in there in the conference room the board was invited I attended we sat down with every single principal and we went over their budget line item by line item that hasn't happened any longer I don't know why I think it would be a good idea if they go back to and you also said that they would make the board members could make comments

on what they believed was necessary not necessary so we had input so okay so we had one years ago and it hasn't happened since so I don't know why so I'm just requesting some documentation um some forms spreadsheets whatever that looks like I don't know but I do know that I feel as if I don't have enough information to even get into budget discussions next month um I definitely am not going to vote Yes on using phone balance I feel like that's just a credit card oh here let's fix the bill but I believe that Mr ritual put it well when he said we need to start zero add in what's necessary the basic education and special education instruction the transportation you know the kids you know the requirements by the state those basic requirements

the extracurriculars come later but what is the absolute most important instruction requirements Transportation cards whatever that looks like and what are those costs and we add to it from there and that's how you stay within a budget in my opinion so in order to help me figure out where were accruing more expenses and thinking that we need to hang on to things I I just feel like I need more information so if that's doable I'll look forward to that okay oh yeah okay I did not have anything else for tonight so future meeting announcements then our next meeting will be May 9th uh the board planning meeting and work session at six o'clock P.M and then May 16th will be our board meeting at seven o'clock P.M so if there's no further business I'll entertain

a mission to adjourn in favor say aye aye we are adjourned thank you
