Please rise for the Pledge of Allegiance. I pledge >> I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Yes. Okay. >> [laughter] >> Um, public comment. That was funny. Welcome. Teresa. All right. Um, so next week we will be approving board minutes for February 10th and February 17th. >> [clears throat] >> And then, um, moving into reports, Parkway. Shaw. Um, I'm waiting till next week to report, although I will make a I don't think I've made my yearly fish fry [laughter] for Parkway. I think we made it for you, but >> If I If I wait If I wait till next week, then you might miss out on this week. >> [laughter] [clears
throat] >> You can call in and say she orders and pick up on Friday if you're interested. Is there a day you have to order them by? Um, I think you can't I think they like you to order it like by the day before, but uh, home and stuff the other week and we ordered it the morning of and I just called. Cool. But if you wait too long, you might not get what you want. I think that's how every fish fry is. You got to be there with the opening of the doors. True. Thank you. Uh, Shasha. Uh, good evening, everybody. Unfortunately, I will have a report this week. Maybe next week. Okay. Maybe next week. Or maybe next year. Maybe [clears throat] then. Cheers. We'll be waiting. Uh, PSBA. I don't have anything
new, but advocacy day is is in April and I don't know if anybody signed up. I I didn't cuz I don't have my own car, so. I couldn't go if I wanted to. I did sign up. You did? >> Because Cuz you're going to be in the area. >> I'm going to be in the area. Yeah. I think I signed up. Oh, for this year? Nice. Nice. Okay, good. Have a couple >> Funny, we can go and hang out. I talked to the governor. Yeah. Um, cool. I don't know if you guys find the talk to the governor. Oh. We have to call the governor. Funny, funny, we'll make it happen. >> Daniel, make it happen. Yeah. Okay. >> [laughter] >> Take pictures, buddy. You got it. I'm going to send everyone a picture of
funny with the governor. Autograph. Yeah. With the governor's speech. It's my favorite. >> [laughter] >> I HOPE NOT. >> [laughter] >> WELL, I DID GET IT I DID INDIRECTLY GET IN THE news this week, though. With that big rat down in South Park. That's true. I'm the one who activated the rat. Yes, anyone [applause and laughter] saw the rat >> doing a Yeah, I was in the basement doing correcting some violations for the health department I had company and he ran and ended up upstairs and the rest is history. To clarify, this is not news from our borough. >> news, but I did I got paid. I don't know what happened. >> [laughter] >> I saw him drinking. I think >> Yeah, he was He got his 15 seconds of fame. What do you [laughter]
need? I felt bad. All right, any news from our borough? Policy. Policy said yeah. Be careful what Yeah, they did just announce that, um, it only would affect Capital City, but they are going to be shutting down Route 88, Yeah. nightly, I think, in, um, up in like the next week and I think it's going to They're just going to be working their way down the road, so it's going to be like a 10-month project or so. Yeah. So, if you're if you happen to have to drive on 88 in the middle of the night on a weekday, there will be a detour. Okay. But shouldn't affect any one of us here or anything like that. Thank you. Uh, and we did not meet in executive session. I think we have salt. Okay. So, are
there any other reports? Uh, there's just one item for next week and that's professional development for, um, Mrs. Bachman to attend the PASA Women's Caucus Conference in Hershey, May 15th and 20th. So, that's that's all. So, yeah. Okay. Nice to see you guys and have a good Yeah, >> [laughter] >> yeah. Yeah, so. I'll share a report. Uh, policies, Shaw. Oh, yeah, we have, um, number of second readings on here and, um, I'd like to add some policies for first reading. Um, I will try and get those to Mrs. Myers by, um, this Friday if it's possible. Before this Friday. Um, hopefully and if not, then we'll go on to September. So, this week some Those will be only for first reading. So, they may see a few more. Okay. Hey, just with, um, I
mean, just curious cuz I asked the question about the relations for the policy 9 914 about going from annual to periodic. I don't know if anybody ever you were able to find anything out about that? Um, it's actually the AIU budget is actually on this agenda. Like on to this month, so that was kind of our thing we do annually, so I was able to look at that a little bit and periodically means they thought they were expanding scope where you could look at it more than annually. That way if you had cause or reason to look at it periodically was being interpreted as an opportunity to examine it as needed or as you feel at your discretion. You could rather than just, um, only having once a year. That way whether um, you could
raise that issue then. Okay. That was my understanding from what I looked at. So, periodically doesn't guarantee that we're looking at it once a year. No, but you could set that policy internally, but what they were saying is then you're not just limited to annually, that you could look at it throughout the year if necessary, right? There may be coming specific issues, um, or specific needs that we We have more than one service through the AIU rather than just >> their budget sometimes teach [snorts] them. rather teach them. And so, if we would need that throughout the year, that there would be an opportunity to to look at that periodically or if you wanted to raise a question through a representative and maybe we don't have one here to but you could contact another one,
right? Don't stop talking. And then you could raise those issues through them that you would be able to to open up those issues not just on an annual basis, but you would be able to They're They're seeing that they thought that actually annually was more restrictive than periodically. But I understand what the question was raised is, but we want to make sure at a minimum we're looking at it annually here. I think that was the concern. Yeah. Thank you. Okay, communications report. I am happy to announce that next week on the agenda we will be approving the logo style guide, um, as prepared by the AIU. And, um, just for information only, the style guide does include both the golden eagle logo as [clears throat] well as the interlocking KO logo. Um, the approved colors,
fonts, and scaling. Um, Sarah, is there anything you want to add? Sure. We can take a look at it. Yeah, is that like our official official, that's it? And has this been released to the students? Um, we had a group of students who did the final, um, the final choosing. Sarah, do you want to just talk a little bit about Sure. I Just the colors. First, we were down to two logos, um, and the committee that had been put together could not come to a consensus, so we went back to students. Um, the students were selected by, um, technical teachers and they're students who who work for work in this area and they were able participated in two meetings. They reviewed both of the logos, made some suggestions, and then this was the final logo
that the students personally voted on. Nice logo. So, when will this go out? I know that, um, the public has questions for, you know, t-shirts, you know, for the incoming kindergarteners and things like that. I mean, after approval, it will be we will publicize it. It will be available after it's approved. So, we're approving the bird, like everything on this page. Not just like this Okay. And the and the KO Yes, also included in this. Just just yeah, just so that no one thinks that that's going away. I like it if the kids picked it, if they I'll be getting the hot food right here. So right here. We agreed. We did. In in our lives. We did when So yeah, they they You guys can like activate of both. For me. You can you
can choose if you'd like, but It was a long process. Thanks for putting up with with everybody, the whole community. There were a lot of voices consulted and I feel like we can confidently move forward next week and I think the students are really proud of themselves, too. Exciting thing for a student to to Hopefully it's going to appear in a college as well. I wasn't going to say anything, but I'll just going to say it. So, just saying Sarah and I kept on talking about how communication was also the official logo for the district. What the district goes by is that there. It's the interlocking. That's the logo. That's not changing. They're good. District has been known for 67 years in existence as KO. >> [clears throat] >> And I was very when I
filled out my survey, I'll let it be public. Although I think Sarah could tell who filled it [laughter] out, okay? That was important to me. That was important to KO. >> [clears throat] >> What the mascot looks like I totally divorced myself from it because it was every which way but loose. Okay, to say the least. I do not want to get involved, okay? You're going to have to live with it. You just do it. So, that is That's your mascot. That's your mascot. Okay? That's what you're technically So, the way I've been explaining it, that's the logo. Right. That's the mascot. After this, it's up to the Sarah to police I've it's been an extremely long process, but the process was been very important, at least to me and I said from the beginning,
kids started off in the process. Kids ended the process. It started with kids and it ended with Full circle. So, same kids? I don't think so. Uh, wasn't same kids. Cuz we had a lot of multimedia kids and kids are doing stuff at Parkway that are around this building with the [clears throat] monitor tech ed and other things, but um Uh and I'll I'll quit there. Like Emily said, anybody else said it was an extremely long process. And I would be remiss I would be totally remiss if I didn't say in some cases it was a painful process. >> Yeah. I'll just say that. Can I ask a a question? About the colors. So, I know that gold and white, Keystone Oaks are What's What's the gold called? Vegas. It's gold. That's the new one.
Okay, whatever. So, white and yellow are our colors. But and black is the accent. However, I don't know that the community knows that and if you look at almost everything we have, like if black is the one of the main colors. What should we would we want to bring black into this as being one of the colors or force everyone to stop it? No, so we have to Artist, do we have to use the black because it makes the logo AB viable? I'll mention There's no gold or yellow color that you could use with white that I'm not saying black is bad. I'm just saying should we adopt it as the third color? It is on there. Okay. It's on there. But like our Keystone Oaks, you know, white and gold, whatever. This these will
be the These are the This is the updated gold and colors for the old gold colors than what we currently have, which is a Vegas gold color. Okay. Um is this the And then the kids did pick the color of as well. So this will become the official color. The official school colors are those five colors. Correct. Okay. And then when this is pub when this is approved these colors will be published on the website Correct. officially Okay. And I also have So, when you order apparel, that color is called a Pantone color. And I have that code as well. Um so that will be on there, too. So that is the order t-shirts or whatever, that the company will want to answer for. These are more like print or website colors. These codes hex
is for website and RGB and CMYK are print colors. Like you I have a question, Doctor. Maybe Krisha can answer. Um this the mascot is Do we have copyright to this? That would be the next step. That's the next step. So, when this is finished and you approve it then the next step is we're going to go and print and what you do is you go through the United States uh uh Library of Congress to get this copyright written. The intent [clears throat] is to have this copyright and locked. It cannot be stolen and everybody must have to It's in my understanding that you will have to use this to represent the district and if it's in it, we'll have that uh PM in the corner and the >> of approval. It will be. And
the Philadelphia Eagles will not touch this. That's what I was going to say. Well, it all depends on how the state >> [laughter] >> Thank you. Okay. I don't know. >> They will not flip it and use it for their team. Well, I mean Well, at that point you can't. >> They will then have to do focus groups to figure out here figure out. So, like my only question It's been a long process. with the copyright then, we'd have a policy in place for the boosters and clubs to apply to use it because my understanding is that a lot of school districts aren't caught or even go and just don't copyright them because then they can't those organizations can't just go and get stuff printed. They have to get the copyright permissions. >> Right. So,
if you So, as Sarah was saying, it's my understanding uh talked to the attorneys on this one. But it's our understanding that once you do it, then you're going to have to put a policy in place. So, you'll have to come up with a new policy, which which I don't You won't find in many school districts cuz it is a unique policy on copyright. I'm sure you have. And then what happens is let's say soccer's up there and say many soccer with belt loops, they'll say We we we want to approve on these shirts for the season. And we simply pass that under like where we would pass like our field trips or booster recommendations or facility we would approve that and you don't have to charge those organizations for your copyright. What you're trying
to do is protect your branding of uh we don't have a shirt out there that says something you know, that we think is inappropriate. It's not something we want to be linked with our name. Um and so you know get creative. I see some football shirts being creative, right? Over the years, but you want to make sure that they're appropriate shirts, they're shirts that we want out in the community, someone wearing that you would want here. I'll tell you a story very briefly of the thing that I just said about the copyright. I had a school district that has copyright who has it from someone else who has permission to use it from a actually a college team. And a vape shop opened up down the street and decided to call themselves We'll give an
example. The Keystone Oaks Eagles Vape Shop. And you know, they're marketing clearly to our students. So, we were able to shut that down very quickly because they were mar they were trademarked. Hm. So, there are some positives to that. Yeah. So, if someone in the community is trying to market to kids that we don't want them marketing to our kids such as that uh then we are able to to go in. Yeah, I just want to make sure like we're balancing like putting the logo out there, making sure everybody's using it versus then making sure they have access to it. So, I guess that's adding that extra layer of complexity complexity to it. So. And and that person, this is all new to me cuz I've never been in a district I left my my
former former district I was in that one like 15 years ago. They just they just trade they just trademarked their logo for the first time. So I've never been down this road before, you know, trademarking and what you do and how you police it. So, I I'm going to have to rely on if if the board goes that way, I'm going to have to rely on the attorneys and stuff. I just don't know what you do. Sarah, sorry. No, that's that's um I I just have a question on the the color the second color from the left. Um Is Is it just that the RGB and the CMYK aren't identical and that's why there's two colors there? Yeah, they can look a little Yeah, they can look a little different. Okay, so like that is
the CMYK version Yes. and the RGB. So, it's just that they can't for some reason be identical When you >> The RGB system is our red, green, blue and then the CMY is like a magenta, yellow, I'm forgetting what it is. I am. Brilliant. I think it was the um cyan. Um so it uh it has like an extra color. It's a It's okay. I'm really I'm really happy that the students were the final say. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I made an observation. I don't know if the students picked it or what or maybe it's just me. I see there's 12 feathers. Is that the 12 grades? I don't think we ever had No, honey. Yeah, honey. >> It does now. I vote yes. >> [laughter] >> Are there 13 grades though? Well, if you
count kindergarten it's 13 so you better add some. We didn't have them added in. Is that the middle school in the middle? Yes. That's for me. I'm the mouse of the school. I was being off. I thought maybe they would just kids They do, you know. It's pretty ingenious. We did also Sarah check with some of our our vendors just to confirm that this is like you know, we're not These are colors that are regularly available. I just started >> What you got called in those days? On the interlocking K and O because it can also be like gray scale. I get the K and O could be black. Black and white. Yes. Yeah, it will I'll have that in writing I think that's right. You know, that it's it's different. It could be black
and white. And I And one last thing and we'll I guess we'll get off. I I I do want to give kudos to Sarah too that along the way she has made sure that all of this in the future, particularly April 2027, that all of this is ABA compliant. I know a lot of people are bucking the system on that but we didn't make up the federal law. The law is there. Some individuals, districts, or some institutions, [clears throat] for example, the Allegheny Intermediate Unit which is, you know, talked about in the logo. They have to follow the new federal guidelines on ABA compliance this April. Because of the number of employees and that's how in in Washington so it's Listen, I'm struggling with with two and Sarah, you know, I'm just making you laugh.
Sarah put me into my place because we have an internal document how I wanted our new curriculum to look, the new format. And because it's the format that I have used for the last 38 and 1/2 years of my life, okay? [laughter] And I have finally been told after all that time, Bill, you can't. And we have to go back to something that was used in 1987-88 when I started in this business. We have to go back to that format writing curriculum which means we have to go to a whole what I call old fashioned outline form. Roman numeral one, capital A, small it has to be that because when you publish that or when it's seen by people to put it in a nice grid which I've come used to reading right across and
this and that. It's not ABA compliant. Mhm. I don't want to get into it but I know people are are a little bit upset and Bill's one of them because >> [clears throat] >> I produced the calendar that you approved last month in a real nice format and I was slapped while I was away and said, "Nice calendar but you can't use it. The format is wrong." Just imagine if you were someone who had vision difficulties and you're trying to parse through >> and you can't. >> tab or a an arrow and you're not getting to the next field. >> Yeah and and I kind of realized [laughter] that or when you talk about document readers or other things that it's not only visual this and that and so I've really come to learn why.
You're right. I put myself into that thing and if if they don't look pretty, they don't look stuff but I get I understand. So just so that the world and you know, we're you know, we're online so that the even I the superintendent got knocked down and said, "No, Bill, you can't do that." So I'm going with the something going with the format 1987-88. Retro. I'll deal with it. But yeah, I know you can forward it, Mr. Kubiak. I didn't even think of it. Uh just we appreciate it. So Okay. Cool. Thank you for all of your efforts. This is awesome. >> Yes. Yes. Thank you. And past committee members. And I just want Yeah, and past committee members and past I want to tell you something. So The email was and then I'm done.
This goes back trademarking and branding goes back to 2013-14 when the board changed for the first time where Anne wasn't here. Anne, you may remember it. She came onto the board and we had a committee member, a board member who wanted this change. So when we do do this, can we please reach out to her? I'll give you her name. You know who I'm talking about. Can at least let her know she would be really happy after all of these years we finally got there. So you think it's only lasted 12 months? It's been that long. And I know Anne knows who I'm talking about. She was head of the Not Anne but this person was head of communications committee for quite some time. You know what I'm talking So I know she'll be real
happy to hear that. You're up. >> All right. So I'm just going to do mine real quick. The Community College of Beaver County, that's just our uh dual enrollment agreement with them. We have to renew it. Something new that's happening with the colleges and universities now as you see for information only. You'll see this in all the new ones because they have to renew it with us so you know, we offer courses. Now it's going to be an automatic renewal unless there's a written termination request that's submitted by either party. So beginning now you'll see new ones. You won't have like every so many years RMU, University of Pittsburgh, Seton Hill, Point Park, you know, you won't see them all. They're just there and they constantly run. Okay. So that's how that changed uh uh
in uh some legislation and stuff and in school code for higher ed. So you won't see it. So that's that's probably the last time you'll see Beaver County with BCC unless something changes. If there are any differences in terms of the agreement >> cost, and that and that. You'll get that. Yeah. Yeah. So uh but it's going to automatically renew unless there's a written termination request for cost to kids and this and that because you set you know, most of them are like $250 a class or $275 or so. Yeah, Tim. Um so this I'm guessing goes sort of along with the policy, the second reading for the um the credits. What was that one about? The academic credits, whatever it was. I don't know. Um The but this is just saying that if a
student chooses to go take a course at Beaver County Community College, we will accept those credits or do we say to student you're going to take this course here. Oh, okay. It works both ways. Okay. It works both ways. >> But student pays for it. We just accept credits. >> Correct. So what what it is is that we accept that we teach it here. We meet all the requirements of the person who takes it. With the Community College of Beaver County, there's a couple of business courses that we offer that you get credit for from Community College of Beaver County. Okay. All of those have to All those teachers have to be certified by the Community College of Beaver County. They meet their meet their guidelines, their regs, and this and that. And then we
offer them. We actually offer that course here. Kids can opt in. They pay Community College. At the end they pass the course, they get the credits. Okay. >> Yeah. So So they're earning college credits while in high school. Right. But they're paying for the college credits. Right. Yeah. And I want to stress I want to stress they are paying the college credit at an extremely >> Yes. discounted rate. Extremely discounted. So The independent study was what I was referring to. Independent study they can they can do that here. >> here. Yes. >> As part of their school day. Correct. They can do that here. They could However it works, they'll work it out but yes, so that's there. So correct. Every college and university has a different a little bit different fee but for the
most part they're between $250 to $275 for the whole course. For the course. Not $3,000. >> A three credit course taking it here, getting the credits and meeting the the $250. I don't know if anybody's been in college. It is $873 a credit. A credit. >> Credit. In the case For instance. In state. Point Park is around $900 a credit. Okay. Because we're going to be offering a lot of courses next year that are that are aligned with Point Park credit. Even CCAC I think is like It's up there. It's $104. A credit a credit. So you're still saving. Yeah. Does the Point Park going to help the students in school doing the teaching program? Good. We're going to go with Point Park in the teaching programs at North Allegheny. Well sorry. Penn West. Yes.
Penn West. We are We are going with affiliation with Point Park. I think that's We're going to do that this year. Because we Our kids can also go down there. It's so close. Yep. So we're going to do that here in conjunction with them. Good move. >> Yeah. I I hope we can get some more courses in here. Uh Dr. Leonard and Dr. Barley have been working hard and I hope we get some more courses from the University of Pittsburgh. Um we still have our five or six from RMU, Seton Hill. Um Robert Morris, Seton Hill, University of Pittsburgh, Point Park, CCAC and CCBC. Have we looked at these colleges provide some of the um like language um you know, like we have just Spanish now, right? Or we're transitioning just to Spanish and then
there's not very many choices with these schools then. Well, they're not Well, they're not teaching remotely here. Our teachers are teaching their curriculum that's coordinated with the college. Oh, got you. Okay. >> Yeah, that's true. Yeah, that's how we do it for teachers here. But there is through our online programs that we can take other languages through online. Absolutely. Oh, yeah. They can take any language you want to take. They have a bunch of them. A bunch. Yeah. They want to do it. They're pretty good, too. They're interesting, so I mean The other two items are just an agreement that we do every year. We Turtle Creek Valley and MHR and MR. That one That they only opened up last year or the year before. They really take the agreement that they really take our
students that we we cannot educate here. They're the more severe children that have emotional disturbances or higher levels of of need than we can provide. So, that's what you see a lot of kids go there. And the Telamon, we've had that agreement for a number of years. They'll just take the services. It's just every year some of these service agreements just need to be renewed for where we're going to send kids. But if you remember, I think it was last year was the first time that Turtle Creek Valley and and MHMHR just opened last year or the year before. I lost track, so they're new. But that's what they're for. >> just replacement out? They don't push in at all? Okay. >> [clears throat] >> And it's just so that we if a student wanted
needed to go there, not necessarily that we have I mean, it is it is frowned upon by the state just push kids out. You have to do the best you can to see if you can do all the services here. And then when you can't do the services here, you need these options to be able to. And the more you have, the better because in particular like this time of year, if you try to place a child because you're just not meeting their needs issues this time of year is extremely difficult to find an open seat in any one of these schools. It's just difficult. So, the more we have in the agreements that we might be able to give a child a warm placement, but that's so um we need them money. But like
I said, we really would like to um do as much as we could in-house cuz that's what you're supposed to do. This should be like a last resort. But there are some children that we We can't start from the very beginning. All right. >> [clears throat] >> I think that's it for my reports. Thank you, Dr. You're welcome. Personnel and auxiliary. Thank you. Um we will be um accepting uh resignation, uh making some appointments as listed there. So, activity sponsors uh for the musical Ozzie and the Mind, track, and wrestling. And then there's a information only there. Um and then also teaching load compensations for a few of the teachers and post-season coaching stipends. Um so, that's great. Basketball, boys, girls, and wrestling. Does that mean wrestling went three three over? Means up. Very good.
And then also um we have two family [clears throat] medical leave to And that's it for personnel. Thank you. >> Thank you. Um Lindsay is not here this evening. Joe, can you Mr. Kubiak, can you please take the finance Thank you. So, we have the accounts payable list um as listed at 660,000, just some more routine things. Um it is a little less than last year around this time, so I'm not sure if you have any questions, let me know. Yes, I'm curious why Not not that I'm complaining. >> [laughter] >> I'll be honest, I have good staff that are paying bills on time um and getting things done more timely, so the bills are now in the time period they should be, so um everything we're getting is just more up to date. Okay.
More accurate, so. Thank you. Nice to see all of you again. Yeah. Like that. Um we also have our annual seasonal rental agreement with Mr. John um just to approve for all our Porta Johns. I'll be there. Um in addition, we have the AIU program services budget as listed. Um it is an increase of $1,613, which isn't too much. Um and this will come out of our basic ed subsidy. So, there. Um we also have a renewal contract with natural gas with direct energy. Um this is through the AIU as part of the electric consortium um which is what they, you know, have offered. So, um I am recommending to approve this 3-year contract extension with them to get better pricing. Um in addition, we do have the advertising of bids, which was discussed at
the buildings and grounds committee. Um the first is first is from HHSDR regarding our general construction, HVAC construction, electrical construction, and fire protection construction, um which is the next phase of our elementary school remodeling. So, they'll be going out for bids on those projects. Um and then we'll get those back. The second item is bids for security cameras for the key sites of middle school and high school campus. Um those will be funded through a separate grant through PCCD. Um in order to meet PCCD's requirements, we have to bid those out um to get a pricing on that. So, um those are on there for next week. Um the last item we have is exoneration of tax collectors. Um typically, we do have all three boroughs. Um right now, we only had Green Tree that
I was comfortable with, I will say. Um I did get Castle Shannon and Dormont. Um I was not comfortable with what they had provided me to exonerate them. So, I have asked them for clarification on things, um needed some answers on um explanation as to why there was a difference between reports and the delinquent list. Um I haven't received any responses yet. It has been over a month um since I've asked for those, so um until I get a response that I'm comfortable with of where we're at, I will not recommend to exonerate them. So, um that is why those two boroughs are not on there. Thank you. >> [clears throat] >> Thank you. Um buildings and grounds. I guess so. Okay, I'll have my computer up. We have uh several items for next week.
Um All this was talked at the buildings and grounds if you were there. First with the scissor lift that uh we were uh mentioned. Uh we have a bid on that. Uh two and three uh same project, same vendor, no uh relation with uh the president the board president. But that's who we're going with uh uh to do the playgrounds. Um You see there's two different numbers there. Uh the first one, the Green The Aiken one uh of course, that's more because there's more work to be done and a lot more planning. And uh second one is the Dormont one, which is listed there. We'll be working on that. So, that's what we'll have next week, everybody. And just for reference for anyone who might not have been at previous meetings, the reason that Myrtle's
not on here is because we're expecting there could potentially be donations that will require moving Correct. Yeah, we And there's a it's up to code, right? Myrtle's has a nice playground that Yeah. So, all of the these all the playgrounds will be up to code. They'll be bigger than they are. They'll have the surface. Um two of my friends who meet with me once every couple of months in South Park here and they bring a couple of times to our meetings. They the the district is paying for all of this so your funds and stuff that you may have put away, use them for something else. I You will not have to use them for the playground. The district is now picking up the tab for everything. There's been some talk, but I I've talked
with some of the CFOs of what they can do. And um all the playgrounds are going to be bigger than they currently are. May May I mention that uh the uh students had a lot to do with this, also, too. In fact, there was one There was one uh one student wanted a water park, but I don't know if that's a >> [laughter] >> Yeah, they I would have loved to granted that, but uh there were flaws I'm not not father, but uh Dr. Stroup came almost broke down and it was caved in. They wanted a water park and But there will be uh climbing wall. There will be uh merry-go-rounds and stuff. Swings, slides, slides of different sizes, all the ADA compliance, some for little kids, some for large kids, spinning wheels that are
on there that they wanted. What else did they want? No No seesaws, though. I I think no seesaws. Yeah. Yeah, I I forget all of the names. >> No rubber mulch. The no more mulch. It's all nice flat Save the sewer. spongy surface. It's all sponge surface there. So, What did you say? Um the So, we When is the work expected Oh, the groundbreaking. So, you'll approve next Tuesday. We'll inform the company next Wednesday, and then they'll come out and we'll start planning. Um just to, you know, let you know, um we do have to coordinate the planning of um both the projects with the window installations. Uh-huh. Because there's going to be a lot of storage. So, there's going to be a lot of trailers on both of these properties um because we'll have
all the windows that'll be coming in. I don't know when they'll be here for installation. They're going to install the windows at Marple first. But, we'll have to coordinate that. And uh it's not on here for now, but Joe and I met with last week. We met with Naira. Uh-huh. And we are moving forward with that drain, and we're very pleased cuz you had already approved that a while ago. And so, that is work that'll be done. And that will have to be coordinated with the Aiken playground. Correct. >> And I said, "We're going to need to know that because might There might be. I'm not saying there is. There might be possibly some digging that may have to occur close to that playground. So, let's do the digging and everything first and get everything
underneath taken care of, and then we'll come in and do So, if not not do You see out here, and let's put in new pavement, and all of a sudden they come along and dig up and stuff. Let's do it once. Thanks. So, there's going to be a lot of coordination that's going to need to um Exactly. to uh take place. Exactly. Um so, Joe and I are on it right now. We hope to next month if you will approve the scope of works. Uh the person that is already heard about that, we'll get that gentleman Chris is working on a an agreement with the guy at contract, and we'll have the individual do that. They'll coordinate it so Joe and I can sort of do I sort of do go back to doing some
of our own work, and this person can watch out for the district. And report to Joe and I. So, the big thing now is is in coordination. Dormont will actually be easier cuz they'll put the windows in. They're simpler windows to put in. They're brand new windows, brand new doors. With the playground, it's going to be a little bit easier So, when they get over there. Yeah. The extended school year happens in this facility, right? Happens here. It won't get affected. Won't be affected by any of that. So, as soon as we can break ground, the better. And uh we'll want to let the building the buildings know, the principals know, and the PSOs in those buildings know in case there's anything going on in the summer so we can coordinate all of that. Good.
Uh that's yeah, that's all I have this evening, folks. Thank you. Exciting stuff on here. >> [clears throat] >> Mhm. Always moving. Um activities and athletics. Uh we're meeting with uh five athletic events. Um Educators Rising state conference. Uh all of the information is listed there. Uh Odyssey of the Mind state competition. Lacrosse high school. Uh robotics middle school. And wrestling varsity. All the information is listed as follows. Um and then we have the athletic bids for the fall. All the information is listed there. That's it. And Dr. Shawkey, do you know what um happened with the Educators Rising conference? No, because I I I think Did they go last year? They They went last year. Yeah. They did presentation. >> Yeah. It's just part of Yeah. Last year, it was like um the two
students that went out to the national conference did like TED Talk type. Um I can't remember their topics, but they probably had like it was Do we have any presenters this year, do you know? Um well, I mean Emily presented last year, I think. That's what I thought. >> I think Emily presented last year. She didn't say She didn't say this year she was here. For For some people or the Chris's new and [clears throat] may not know. So, the Educators Rising is really on future teachers organization in uh And this is the group that we got recognized what, 2 years ago by the US Department of Education. It's been 2 years or a year? Year and a half. Pardon? >> [laughter] >> You took You took the picture You took the picture with the
state secretary, but I don't believe we took a picture with the uh No, he left. the US He left a little quick. I have a picture with him. So, uh that picture's around somewhere. I don't quite remember, but the group that was here did take a picture with the US Oh, is it still Is it over there? Okay. Yeah. I just want to mention to I just want to congratulate the four teams that have qualified this past Saturday for the Odyssey of the Mind to go to the next Play That's what you see there. That's the That's the group that's going. I believe they're headed That group heads to the Pocono's this year. So, I just want to I don't know who the teams are. I wasn't here. I just want to congratulate the four
that moved on. Um Okay. Yes. Yeah. So, I did hear some of that a moment ago. I don't think I heard I heard from some of the teams and from the people about some of the uh issues and the logistics of the if the if the place it was being held at. And they weren't all necessarily positive from what I understand, but I'll just leave it at that. But, anyhow, congratulations to the 24 kids that are going on to the Pocono's. Yeah, that's really great. >> Yeah. That That's great to hear. And our robotics team, as you can see, is just phenomenal in what they're doing. So, all new stuff that is in there and things. So, between the Educator Rising and the Odyssey of the Mind and the robotics stuff and moving that This
is where life is going. Yeah. I'm taking So, I'm really really really pleased. The Odyssey competitions are very complex. You You thought I was I was a You thought I was a judge. You thought I was a judge. That was difficult. They're not Yeah. They're not easy. Um I have a question about the bids in relation to like the the math cot. So, I have a question about that, too. Maybe it's the same question. Yeah. It's more of like a how does that What is that like timeline, I guess? If these It isn't going to change the prices. If we have to add a lot of stuff. Yeah. I mean, my question wasn't so much about the prices, but more about like almost which comes first or like The But, yeah, pricing as it is.
Um Mr. Alston is going to be in the process of ordering um lockers and basketball hoops for middle school. So, I did tell him that um assuming you have that one everything is approved that I will get those in next Wednesday. He does today put out ask me to put out to collect sizes. So, I isn't ordered anything yet. >> Okay. All right. Sounds good. I mean, at least that's the first that I have seen. If anything has been ordered that is a problem for, we'll just replace as you know, update as things are replaced. But, anything that we need to have to be ordered when you order on it. That's all. And honestly, the only real pricing difference might be >> [clears throat] >> if you have the old logo already on file with
some of these, they have to pay a set up fee for the new one. They might be nice Right. I might keep getting updates. >> [laughter] >> That's their talk. But, it shouldn't be a big cost difference if if there is a big one. Thank you. All right, Dr. Dr. Shawkey. Um additional public comments? Okay. Um I wanted to mention because I forgot to mention it that um Dormont um Dormont summer camp registration is open, and I saw it at 60% filled as of when I saw the It opened I think last Monday. So, um there's some pretty cool themes that they're going to do. I saw like a Willy Wonka week, and they're doing um grossology where you do gross stuff experiment stuff. Anyone If anyone has If anyone is interested. I've been in
Austin, and I like the governor, what do you pass a law that uh they're going to be teaching cursing in Pennsylvania? I heard that. >> [laughter] >> Sorry, I'm I'm not a little I'm a little tired. Do you know what governor. The We'll be implementing that. Well, we talked to So, we already do it. They already have. So, we we For a period of time it was um we we brought it back, so it's not a problem. There's three things that you're now required to do in Pennsylvania beginning next Print, print, slanted italics, which makes no sense, but that's what they call it because if you have to because when you start to slant italics and slant and you connect it, that's your next step towards cursive. Cursive? Really going back. Really going really good.
Okay. And and then going to cursive, it's back on the books. We have to teach it. But we're already doing it. We're already doing it, so it's not going to change. Not going to change. Cursive. I learned that from my grandfather. The board's not going to the board's not going to do anything. Cursive. But as soon as the meeting's over, can we just all stay here and we need to go to an executive session? A lot of cursive. A lot of belts. I promise it won't be long. We need an executive session. Yeah, I think that's right.
