is called order at six o'clock for the Beaumont Unified School District Board of Trustees please stand for the flag salute and presentation of colors please colors [Music] freeze that colors ready to begin I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all post foreign arms order arms return right face forward heart thank you and please be seated [Applause] roll call please David Sanchez here Sean Mitchell here Melissa Williamson here Jeff Brown here Susie Lara here Haley Brock here mace kakish here we have a quorum thank you board members we have a motion to a revise adopt or reorder the agenda I moved from the adopt the agenda a motion to adopt by Mr Mitchell
do we have a second I second by Ms Williamson discussion hearing then call for the vote right somebody has to have a problem the agenda has been approved agenda item 5.1 he already said the pledge public testimony during the meeting of the Board of Trustees members of the public have an opportunity to comment on items that appear on the agenda regular or special meetings or items that do not appear on the agenda but are within the subject matters tradition jurisdiction of the Board of Trustees individual speakers shall be allotted three minutes time may not be waived to another we have couple that would like to speak tonight first one David Wiseman good evening this is crazy back here respected board members I'd like to reiterate Departments of traditioning from paper-based tubs to electronic pay stubs
which are pretended during the last bird meeting I respectively and formally request the topic of transitioning from paper pay stubs to electronic pay stubs be added to the agenda for police detection as members of queer country at Beaumont Unified School District we should embody school spirit theme of go first bln by embracing the latest technology it is time for us to take the lead and become Pioneers in electronic documentation we have a unique opportunity to pave the way for other school districts to follow suit as a district you must be at the Forefront of technology and reduce paper waste by switching to transactions we can positively impact our community and the planet it's our responsibility to act towards sustainable future while minimizing our rental footprint the very least I kindly request the board instruct staff
to initiate contact with me to concern the status of possible I'm trying to appeal to collection once again I appreciate your time and consideration thank you next is uh Sonia Summers agenda item 5.1 regarding parental notification good evening Beaumont USD trustees um here tonight because um it's come to my understanding that there's been kind of like an email campaign circulating not only in this school district but of course in other surrounding districts in Southern California um and so I know that at least for our school district some local parents are advocating for a parental notification policy just like what was passed at Chino Valley and what's being voted on tonight in Temecula and so I'm here to urge you to not consider such a policy we don't need any more reason to incite more hate
and violence and negativity towards our lgbtq students and Community if anything as members of this board you're here to serve and protect those students as much as possible if you're not aware attorney general bonta launched a civil rights investigation into Chino Valley unified's policy for a forced gender status disclosure which is what this policy is basically asking of the school districts California general attorney general Rob Banta announced a civil rights investigation into potential legal violations by Chino Valley Unified School District which adopted a policy that forced schools to out students whose gender identities may be changing something a policy like this of course endangers lgbtq students and students should not fear going to school for simply being who they are said attorney general Vonta attorney general has substantial interest in protecting the legal rights physical
safety and mental health of children in California schools and protecting them from trauma harassment bullying and exposure to violence and threats of violence prior to in its enactment attorney general Banta sent a letter urging CVUSD not to adopt the forced outing policy and to fulfill its obligation to create an inclusive and safe environment which we've been advocating here in our district for through Al cap of course and we know that's a requirement throughout cap funds as well for all students community members opposing the policy included current and former civa USC lgbtq parents teachers and mental health professionals so we really encourage you not to consider doing something like this I know that some of the local parents are urging you to put it on the agenda for a vote for next month but we um
strongly originate not to do that we don't need that in our community and just like we came out on June 7th to advocate for an inclusive curriculum we would surely be here to um again be here on on that day if that something like that would were to happen thank you speaker Heather Lewis hello um honorable members of the school board um I am also here uh to touch on what Sonia was uh was um uh discussing regarding the parental notification um policy or request to create a policy that forces our schools and teachers counselors to disclose um a certain you know private information that was provided by students to them because they feel like it's their parental right to be notified in regards to gender identity and Etc so this is what I have
put together to present I stand before you today to advocate for the critical importance of protecting students rights to confidentiality particularly when they confide in school officials regarding their gender gender identity status this is a matter that deserves our most attention as it touches upon the emotional well-being safety and rights of every student within our educational community I feel it is our responsibility to ensure that schools are nurturing environments or students feel safe to express their identities without fear of judgment or repercussions um it seems not only an ethical imperative but um something that we we should want for our students to show as a show of respect and Trust um for them as individuals recent concerns expressed by some parents and I know there's like emails being circulated between some of these parent groups
and the concerns expressed by some parents regarding their right to be notified about their child's gender identity status are um I I believe the concerns are valid but we must recognize that parental rights do not supersede the fundamental rights of our students our students must have the freedom to trust school counselors and Educators as confidants knowing that their personal information will be safeguarded this trust is integral to their emotional and psychological well-being by protecting students confidentiality we are not looking to undermine parental involvement or disregard the importance of family support rather we're taking an approach that respects both parental rights and student autonomy let's provide them with a secure space where they can express themselves uh openly knowing that their feelings and privacy will be respected and protected show them let's show them that their
rights and dignity do matter to all of us thank you next speaker Robert Marquez drop off and pick up yes good afternoon uh my name is Robert Marquez I currently live here in Beaumont my my children have attended school here since gosh my daughter started kindergarten and she's now in the seventh grade at San Gorgonio so I do have two children that go to school here at the local school districts or Local Schools the issue I have uh probably started about four years ago it has been an ongoing problem but I think the straw that broke the camel's back is when my vehicle got hit in the parking lot of anahas I've had a near Miss in anahas and since covid I've seen several Vehicles parking along the red curb dropping off their children picking
up their children I've witnessed vehicles on northbound Carnation parking on the Northbound side despite the fact that the signs say no parking now there is a red curb in front of the school I myself in is I work for a County Fire agency I am very familiar with the California vehicle code about no parking standing or idling at the red curb my fire station at one point that I was assigned to was next to a grade school I heard every conceivable excuse on why they were blocking a fire station or parking along the red I'm only going to be here a minute I'm picking up my child for us the straw broke the camels back on our station we end up putting a fence around our lawn because some lady decided to drive across our
artificial turf that we were having installed caused an additional twenty five hundred dollars worth of damage to get repaired and her excuse was I was running late to drop my kid off we've seen time and time again during uh I mean you can go on any news outlet and even some of our local news where children are injured or killed getting off the bus crossing the street I unfortunately myself had to tell a parent their child was dead on their way to school I have part been at I shouldn't say I participated but unwilling to participate at 9-1-1 calls at schools involving drop-off and pickups this has been a problem that I've expressed to Dr signs at the time that she was the principal of Anna Haas Elementary I told her I was not going
to hide anything same thing I told Mr Young but I've gone up the chain I've sent messages to the risk management here which was Serenity at the time I don't know if she still is but I sent messages up the chain and to the degree where nothing is getting done there is on average at least two dozen Vehicles parked on Carnation and the principal says that she had they have no control over the street I get that but now we have vehicles parked along the red against the curb the bus lane used to be off of carnation now they moved it over the buses shouldn't even be parked against the red curb yes they are California exempt but that only means exempt to paying registration fees to the state it doesn't exempt them from the
law of the California vehicle code this has been an ongoing problem and it continues to be an ongoing problem and I know it doesn't affect Anna Haas I've seen in a sand gagonio as well thank you thank you okay that concludes public testimony moving on to oral reports receive a report from our student board member Haley Brock and welcome Haley thank you good evening Board of Trustees superintendent kakish and community members I'm excited to share about the great events activities and accomplishments happening at our elementary school sites Animal House Elementary School the new principal Ian young was very excited to kick off the year with the back to school night the day before school started during this time he held a special meet the principal session to get to know the amazing Anna Haas Hawk

that volunteered their time to decorate and make the first day of school a fun and successful day I appreciate all the elementary school principals putting together a slideshow to show off the various activities their school put on and I'm glad the year has started off so strong for the youngest of our district and with that being said this concludes our presentation on the events and activities taking place at the elementary schools this far excellent thank you now we'll receive a report from our superintendent and a review of The District calendar for the month of September good evening everyone I also want to start with the activities that took place at the welcome back rally for staff we were excited to offer that event again for this year and we have a short video just before
we start this report if we can go to the video if you if you can't play it it's okay okay no problem so this year's theme was go first be all in as you may have remembered from last year oh he got it okay thank you [Music] so awesome again this year's theme is go first biolin as you may have remembered from last year we wanted to focus on going first be the Trailblazers in education and we decided to add be all in as we understand The Importance of Being dedicated to our work um this piece also helped tie in our guest speaker Mr John Paul Gonzalez message about violin we have received such positive feedback from all staff about the rally and I would just want to think again I know we've done it
several times but we can't thank them enough for everyone that was involved in the preparation for the rally in the planning in the doing at the day of um all are appreciated and it took all departments to work collaboratively first day of school I know our student board member have touched on that I just want to just reiterate how wonderful that day was even though there was a little bit of rain but our families staff were still smiling and excited to be on our campuses we were actually greeted by a double rainbow as you saw in that I don't know if you see the other rainbow it was really cool to see firsthand it was the clearest from Sundance Elementary actually and I think the rainbow appeared around the start time of many of our
schools and it's a sign of a great year to come and I want to thank all the staff as they are the reason for the best successful day to open our schools I had the pleasure of visiting so many of the sites and saw firsthand The Passion of our staff and it was so evident and it was so inspiring and back to school nights were always a fun time for our staff and our parents and our community as a whole and they worked hard to ensure that the time was valuable for our families families were given information they need to ensure that they know where to go when they need any support or additional resources for their children these events are also the time that we are able to build that important homeschool relationship as
we know this relationship is imperative to the child's success and I want to end before the calendar updates with our tropical storm update as you all are aware Beaumont Unified School District along with other districts within Riverside county and San Bernardino counties closed yesterday due to the impact of the tropical storm Hillary that had on our communities and just wanted to share with you our maintenance and operations staff work throughout the whole day yesterday to clean up our sites this is just a little bit of flavor of some of the damage that was at our schools I'm happy to report that school resumed today safely and I want to thank all of our maintenance staff we had just a small gesture token of appreciation and had lunch with them with providing pizza for all of
our stuff so I know this is just a small gesture but I hope that they appreciated that and we did it on behalf of the Board of Trustees as far as calendar Updates this month coming up September is attendance Awareness Month we will be sharing a lot of the information on this slide on our social media accounts and through parent Square to increase attention to attendance as we are back now fully in person and I want to bring to everyone's attention Patriot day is going to be on September 11th many of our schools will be hosting events in memory of that day we have some schools that are reaching out to the community and inviting veterans and First Responders to their events in honor of that day I just want to give some information about
that day on September 11th I know all of you know this information but as we approach that day I think it's important to remember these events and it gives me goosebumps every time I go over these events these details so on September 11 2001 at 8 46 a.m eastern United Airlines flight 11 hit North Tower between the 93rd and the 99th floor 17 minutes later at 903 a.m United Airlines flight 175 struck the South Tower between the 77th and the 85th floor at 9 3 37 flight 77 crash crashes into the Pentagon by 10 30 both Towers had collapsed and another plane flight 93 had crashed into a field in Pennsylvania a little less than a year after the attack President Bush proclaimed September 11 2000 to as the first Patriot Day while our students
were not alive at that time that this happened they have learned about it through family school and events like our schools hosting for those of us that were alive during this horrific attack we can recount exactly where we were and what we were doing in that moment that we heard the news I want to thank our staff for creating events to commemorate the lives of those that have died on that day and for showing supports for our First Responders also in September we will host the first student of the month breakfast and on September 11th we will have our next board meeting and that's it thank you next item on the agenda consent agenda actions prepared on consent agenda are considered routine in nature and will be adopted in one motion unless a board member

out at me it just it just popped out any further discussion call for the vote item carries ports receive a report from the California School Employees Association and his chapter 351 do we have a representative representative tonight item 13.2 receive a report from the Beaumont Teachers Association and we have the represent ative the representative yeah sure I'll take what I can get here uh good evening superintendent kakish board members uh Canada colleagues Community uh it's been great to see everybody back to school uh and I think I wanted I just uh commend everybody on I think we've had a really successful start to the school year I really want to voice my appreciation for how well we've been staffed how ahead of time how proactive the district has been in making sure that there are
appropriate Educators in classrooms or with caseloads and with students and I think we've really got off to the best start we've had in years and so I really want to avoid my appreciation for that and all that prep and planning and hard work that everybody has done to get us to this point there's always you know variances and stuff I know they're balancing classes at the high school and it's quite a Monumental task these days to do that so hopefully they'll continue with that work in the next week or two as they fix some of those things I do want to bring to your attention kind of uh you know stuff uh people send me and what we've been thinking about about and stuff like that and I think one of the things that's sort
of rising to the top is facilities we're getting a lot of support staff we have a lot of Staff just in general I know we just finished a building but we always have to kind of be looking toward the future as we continue to grow as a district and with all the sort of support Personnel that aren't necessarily in classroom some of our sites are really jammed up and we're just running out of space I know at a 21st century we're doing their their quite right now they have sort of a big move thing where they're moving classrooms and and moving staff around and moving them to other sites because we just don't have enough room and it wasn't a very big space there to begin with so um I hope that you can kind
of look at those I know some of those older facilities are already under consideration but I think that we need to make sure that we're looking for proactive Solutions as soon as possible with some of those things I know at Brookside you know the Kinder office is between the Kinder classes were taken over by support personnel which had been a very useful place for the Kinder teachers to prep and they're very upset about losing that space and they have communicated that to me very strongly so um I you know hope we can't doesn't have to be a person uh you know a permanent type situation there but we're just out of room so I hope that um you know as the board looks forward we're moving forward with continuing to plan for expanding and improving
our existing facilities our new facilities and also taking to an account that kind of Greater number of personnel that aren't necessarily working with students in classrooms but might have small offices and stuff we never seem to have enough of those meeting rooms on a campus are incredibly scarce to get IEPs and things done so I would just want that board to consider those problems that we have in front of us right now as well as consider those things for longer term so thank you thank you Chase next report receive a report from the Beaumont administrator's confidential management employees group good evening president Sanchez superintendent kankish board members cabinet colleagues Community uh definitely want to thank everybody for an incredible opening of the school year but in light of the weather which would obviously out of
unexpected I wanted to formally thank our maintenance and operation team on behalf of all of our site leaders and District leadership they are always they're always there no matter what the circumstances they're always there to ensure that our students are safe that our staff are safe and so just want to thank them formally for the work that they did yesterday to ensure that our schools were prepared when we reopened again today thank you very much I'll receive a report from our board members starting off with Miss Laura just want to say it was a great start to the new year for school and um my granddaughter's first day of TK it was amazing Starlight she was really sad that she didn't get to go to school yesterday actually so but anyway she had a great
start and I it looked like everybody had a great start to the school year so I'm very happy I haven't met it thank you Miss Laura next report from Mr Brown I just want to Echo the sentiments that everybody else has already said it was a really great start to the school year it was a great kickoff that uh the district put together for the staff and uh and it was really great beginning of the year and I wanted to thank the mno staff for all the hard work that they did yesterday I drove around town yesterday morning before I um headed to Riverside but I just did a quick little tour and they had a lot of work to do based on what I saw at about 5 45 6 o'clock in the morning
and it's it's really really incredible that they got it all done so um thank you Sergio for your staff and Leadership thank you Mr Brown next report from Miss Williamson hi good evening I know it's already been said but uh you know is the the work I believe started on even Saturday and Sunday with you know and I know that that's kind of our job but it still I think requires or not requires um deserves appreciation I know the M I know Eminem we're monitoring sites over the weekend executive cabinet was meeting and you know the decisions to close schools don't come lightly um but at the end of the day it's all about the students it's all about the kids and I think that the the work that went into making sure facilities were
ready is evident um I drove we drove the school route because my Avenue driver um in our house and so we drove from our house to Beaumont High to make sure it was clear yesterday um and you know you could see the work that was being done is very much appreciated as a parent and as a board member um the welcome back rally I have to say I think Beaumont is definitely a step ahead of just so many things the encouragement and the just the hype and the excitement that was felt there was it was so much fun there's something to be said about having fun together I think it unifies and it's just it makes it enjoyable and I felt it I was pumped about the square you know I still am pumped about
the school year John Paul Gonzalez had a quote that really struck me and I think that it describes Beaumont very well especially after being part of the leadership Symposium um I think what the week or two prior and being part really part of all the leadership here Matt was good teams are committed to winning great teams are committed to each other and what I've seen here in Beaumont is that we're committed to each other and that makes all of the difference and I'm just very honored to be part of that and excited about this school year it really is different you can feel it there's just something about it it feels it feels really good so good job everyone Mr Mitchell uh welcome Haley to our school board thank you great to see the student
back up here on the dice I know it's also great to see our Color Guard back here and it's great that we give them opportunities and they share their talent with us at our board meeting so uh shout out to our athletic teams who are starting out an excellent year our volleyball I'm sorry Varsity chair uh won a recent competition and our volleyball teams all three levels one so congratulations to the volleyball teams our football team played those people down the hill we don't like to mention since we don't have Banning anymore to mess with we'll mess with San Jacinto and we beat them again this time by a bigger score so that was a great game on Friday night so congratulations to our scholar athletes and I believe golf tennis and water polo play
their first contests this week so good luck to them uh in pre-covered times I guess that'll be a thing for the future right three times a year at the beginning of each Sports season that season's coaches would come to the board meeting and give a brief update to the board about their upcoming season I'm sure I'm not sure if that's is what the rest of the board would like to see reinstated but I thought it would bring It Forward for consideration okay and everyone have a great week thank you Mr Mitchell um I have to tell you again we've already echoed it the beginning of the years the introduction staff that Dr Mrs kakish there and our guest speaker was amazing I I go what Miss Williams says it is something special and I am
so glad my twin was able to attend because I was hard at work that video needs to disappear but we I have a little more serious note that the issues the issues we had with the tropical storm that that came I will say Mrs kakish and her team were on top of it constantly and the call was made at the last possible moment to give parents the community opportunity to do to organize and and for daycare which I I have to tell you I I that that is a very difficult situation for a leader of a school district to be in and my hat is off to miss akish because that was not an easy call because there's no there was a no wind it was a no-wind situation you had 50 percent that would
just sit there and say uh come on suck it up buttercup and another one that would say what are you trying to do kill our kids you can't win and uh I'm glad you he took the high road and I appreciate that thank you with that no further comments the business of the board is concluded at 6 52. people that's super fast
