It's time to wake up, Warriors. >> The behavioral science class had the opportunity to work on a hands-on lab to keep them engaged and give insight into perception. Stay tuned to see how this lab worked. >> CAP has so many events coming up this month in May. Keep watching to find out more. All this and more on today's edition of Wake Up Warriors. >> Live from Pen Trafford High School, this is Wake Up Warriors. Wake Up Warriors starts now. >> Live from the studios of PTTV, this is Wake Up Warriors on Tuesday, May the 5th. I'm Karina Whipkey. and I'm Brooklyn. >> We're glad to have you with us today. >> Let's get things started with today's show. >> Mrs. Bakowski's behavioral science class participated in the perception and impaired driving lab. In the lab,
they wore the impaired and perception goggles and had to throw, catch, type, and drive around on tricycles with their impacted vision. This lab showed the importance of making smart decisions both with driving under the influence and distracted driving. We spoke to Mr. Dr. Bjakowski, the behavioral science teacher, and a behavioral science student, Alyssa Arco, to see what this lab meant to them. >> Uh, my third period behavioral science class, we did a lab, which was about 3 days, and we used um multiple impairment and vision goggles, and it kind of gave us a new perception on how people see, whether you're impaired or if you're born with some vision problems. So over those three days, I had my students read, write, um, type, throw, and catch in my classroom, and they tracked all of their
data and pretty much explained how they saw things in these perception goggles, which would either, uh, made their vision flip upside down or it pivoted to the 45 degree angle. Okay. >> So, as prom was coming up, I thought it was a good idea to pair the drug and alcohol goggles with this lab, and it shows the dangers of driving while impaired. Uh, so the students had to put on whether it was um BAC goggles, drug and drug and alcohol combo, and also distracted driving goggles. So, thank you to Mrs. Arzeni for letting me borrow those. But, uh, the students would drive around the gym with these goggles on, and they would also just track their data on how many times they swerved, how where they thought they were in the gym, and just the
overall struggle and how dangerous it can be while driving impaired. So last week in behavioral science we did the drunken perception goggles. Um we were taken into the aux gym and had to put them on and drive the tricools around. I think this was a really important activity for us students to do especially before prom just cuz a lot of bad decisions can be made the night of prom. But it was definitely like interesting to see how when we put the goggles on and we drove the trics when we were under the influence. We thought we were doing really well and driving in a straight line and a few walls and nets were definitely about to get hit. So, I think it was a good hands-on activity for us kids to really know the dangers
of drinking and driving and just being under the influence and making bad decisions. Congratulations to the newest student union members. 2027 student union officers, President Abby Kreer, Vice President Addie Gosworthy, Secretary Sammy CeC, Treasurer Jake Campbell, school board rep Celia Sperber. 2028 junior class officers, President Nate Casey, Vice President Isabella Bai, Secretary El Leun, Treasurer Grady Schwarz. 2029 sophomore class officers, President Owen Briggs, Vice President Cole Ryan, Secretary Phoebe Connors, and Treasurer Addison Joe. Voting for senior class, junior reps, and sophomore reps will be today. Please cast your vote by 2:25. >> The coffee shop will be closing for our end of the year cleaning. Our last day for this school year will be Friday, May 8th. Thank you to all the students, teachers, and administration for another awesome year. Have a great summer, and
we will see you all in the fall. Attention all CAT members. Trafford needs your help with accelerated reading bingo rewards. Here's Mr. Kraken with more information on this event. >> Hi guys. Uh we have so many events coming up for CAP in the month of May and the first one is actually happening this week. It's on Wednesday and you will be dismissed at the end of sixth period and you will be gone for the rest of the day. You do need a ride there and home from there. And it is at Trafford Middle School. It's for one of their bingo rewards. And the permission slips to go are outside of my room. So, if you are interested in going, we would love your help. We don't have a lot of people signed up so far,
so we could definitely use a couple more volunteers. Um, other updates that I have are the Sunrise School store that was scheduled for this Friday the 8th is actually cancelled. Um, so there will be no Sunrise School store on Friday. Um, and the only other reminder I have is anytime you sign up for any event, especially this month, if you have Keystone review or you're taking a Keystone test, that takes priority. So, you cannot sign up for an event if you are going and taking a Keystone on that day. So, just make sure that you check your schedule. You're not on a Keystone or Keystone remediation list. And thank you all so much for your help this year. For those of you attending the New York trip at the end of this month, there will
be a meeting today at 5:30 p.m. in the LGI regarding more information on the agenda and the fun activities in store for the trip. Last week, the Fashion 2 students were painting denim clothing items. Here's Miss Anowski with more information about this fun project. >> Hi, the Fashion 2 Warriors are currently working on denim spiritware. We are doing the ever so trendy painting our denim clothing products. The the goal is to make it either summer themed or graduation theme. So we have some of the students are making their senior jeans and some are making their beach waves on their on their denim. Mrs. Henny's anatomy and physiology classes spent the last few days hard at work participating in a rat dissection. In this dissection, students had to explore the structures and functions of a mammal
to compare the similarities to the anatomy of a human. This was a very effective and hands-on lab to get students involved and see firsthand what their own structures look like. This assignment is a very good way to also help these students prepare for their last final of the year. The end of the year is near and the yearbooks are here. The yearbook signing event will take place on Thursday, May 21st during periods 7 and 8. This is your chance to get your yearbook signed by all of your friends, listen to music, and get out of your afternoon classes. Tickets to the event are just $1 and will be on sale during all lunches in the cafeteria from May 8th until May 21st. Keystones coming up. It's crucial to prepare for success. Here's Arley with an
important reminder on how you can succeed when taking the Keystones. Hey, you. >> Uh, >> yeah. You, are you taking the keystones? >> Yeah. >> Well, is your iPad charged? >> No. >> For the coming days, if you're taking the keystones, make sure your iPad is charged each day before you come to school. Make sure you're rested up the night before. And don't forget to bring a book for when you're done with your test. Now, good luck, warriors. The seniors have been working on their senior projects throughout the entire year, and now it's time to present them. Over the course of the year, each student was required to complete either an interview or work-based experience related to their chosen topic. In addition, they had to gather around 10 sources to support their research, which they
used to write a multi-page essay and eventually create a presentation. Each senior is required to present their topic to the class for a minimum of 10 minutes. Topics vary widely, ranging from future careers in fields such as medicine or education to discussions about how artificial intelligence are rapidly impacting the planet in certain industries. >> Mrs. Aeras and Mrs. Thornton's senior college writing students are currently delivering their senior project digital magazine presentations. Students created their digital magazine by creating an original magazine cover and a table of contents, composing a letter from the editor, then compiling all of their major writing assignments from the school year, all of which are career or interest related. Students dress as they would for a job interview in their respective field, deliver their presentation, then conduct a Q&A following their presentations.
Pitch Trafford is looking to go beyond the basics with a new initiative called the building warrior campaign. While district funding covers essential needs like academics, maintenance, and activities, there's often little left for additional improvements that can enhance the student experience. That's where this campaign comes in. Each school has identified a specific wish list item from upgraded classroom resources to improve technology and learning spaces. The campaign invites parents, community members, and local businesses to give back directly to the schools that matter most to them. By supporting these efforts, donors can see the direct impact of their contributions. Through the building warrior campaign, Pin Trafford is continuing its efforts to create stronger opportunities and better learning environment for all students.
