Eli which we already did he's learned he's from four years now he has earned essentially donors of all four years past two seasons he placed eighth and third in the century tournament which gave him the right to hit districts well it's pretty amazing for his number one doctor past two seasons of all of the century doctors of all the schools so yeah plus one handicap which is pretty amazing all right sounds good okay um you let her spots district one tournament placed 12th electron last year um a place fit this season which gave the most right to go to the state tournament so he's the only golfer I know that I can think back last 20 years that's gone to States and got metal got a metal just got 10. so it's just amazing to

see them grow and play as a golfer I can't wait to see um through college and hopefully pass college thank you again congratulations Eli that's amazing I've had Eli in class and he's a great kid very unassuming you'd never know he was one of the best golfers in all of Pennsylvania and he's not a professional yet uh so congratulations and Coach Shea as well uh thank you board for uh allowing our young men to be acknowledged in this way uh and congratulations to our team uh this year's team finished 10-1 in the central League uh Missing the central League championship by one point at the league meet we moved on we also were second at the district meet and the only team to beat us there was the number two ranked team in Pennsylvania uh

at the district meet uh we also finished second losing to uh one team North Penn one of the largest schools in Pennsylvania um uh a loss that we Avenge the following week so second at delco's second and Central second at districts but we beat North tenant states to finish third the only two teams ahead of us at States this year were North Allegheny again I think about the fifth or sixth largest High School in Pennsylvania and LaSalle College High School which recruits from about nine different counties in this area we were by far the best public high school in AAA this year so congratulations to our young men and uh [Music] uh senior leader this year who had just an outstanding season uh the central League was loaded we had the best cross-country league in

all of Pennsylvania three teams from our league all qualified for States uh a number of them were state medalists individually um including two from Haverford a team that began we beat at districts and States avenging that one point loss from centrals uh Gavin medal at the Delco meet at the central League meet he was fourth in the district meet and his eighth place finish at the state meet was the third highest finish in school history so congratulations to Gavin historically I told these guys early in the season early in the summer that this is the best team I've ever had I've only been coaching for uh 17 years at penncrest and we've had some pretty successful teams in those years but in the 40 plus years that penncrest has existed only one team has finished

higher than this one at the state meet I'm sorry at the district meet the 86th District Champions and we tied the best finish for a state meet finish with that same 86 team finishing third so just an outstanding year for our guys uh congratulations to all of them thank you oh what an exciting way to kick off a meeting again congratulations gentlemen outstanding well next up and not to be outdone I'm looking forward to hearing our student liaison reports hi I'm Jason Lincoln I'll be covering Glenwood and Indian Lane Elementary schools at Glenwood on Friday October 20th Glenwood hosted Philly's pep rally for the anticipated World Series Jen Frederick from Good Morning Philadelphia interviewed several students about their favorite Phillies player and we're on television we sang and wore those Philly fanatic headboards this year

round of student growth scores and all three tested areas show Positive Growth our biology and literature students displayed their highest growth scores at pancreas since 2018. last month sya principal Mr Stango attended the student the Simon youth foundation's National Conference to be recognized as a finalist for the Simon youth foundation's administrator of the Union while he did not win it is an honor to have one of our administrators recognize her Excellence on a national level next month Pence English teacher Mr cruises will travel to Hershey as a finalist for the Pennsylvania teacher of the year we are hoping that Mr gruz's brings home the top prize thank you so very much I always enjoy hearing those reports and seeing all the amazing things that our our children faculty and families are up to all right

next up are some board liaison reports do we have a report for the DCCC yes we do and I'm sorry I was not here last month um the annual School Universe hosted by Delaware County Community College uh just a night or two before the last legislative meeting it was chock full of lots of really interesting information and I'm just going to share some of the highlights I do have all the notes here so if I look down it's not because I'm um one of the things they gave an update on was the new Southeast Campus that will be available by the trolley line for much of Delaware County it's the old Archbishop undergrass building and they uh they give an update on the funding which they still have a lot more to do but they've

made a lot of Headway and gotten some recent grants but they also talked about the six high priority industry sectors that that school is going to be devoted to it's Healthcare advanced technology skilled trades culinary and Hospitality early childhood education and general business one of the most interesting things is that the Early Childhood Learning Center will be built on the property and it will be a site where students can um who have children can take their children while they're in class but it's also a learning center for students who are studying and earned child prevention so it benefits everyone from both sides um I had already mentioned the Educational Foundation scholarship programs at a previous month and then they went over a lot of the dual enrollment pathways Mr Dougherty was also in attendance at

the meeting and I know they have already met with some of the members of Delaware County Community College to um you know explore opportunities for a district as well but they have the Business Academy pathway the teacher Academy pathway the carpentry Electra and electromechanical pathway and what they are is it's a two-year program here for high school students to take a couple classes each semester so that they can come out of high school with somewhere between 26 and 30 credits towards their undergraduate degree or certification in a program currently Ridley High School has the most participation with 12 students in the business Academy pathway 18 and pre-nursing and two in carpentry um they also talked about another opportunity for high schools which is um having College in the high school where they actually have college

professors come Barbara Newtown has 113 students right now in five sections of English comp one therefore eliminating that requirement once they uh get into a four-year institution and Springfield High School has an unusual um interest in astronomy so an astronomy Professor goes to Springfield High School and they teach one section of astronomy 105 which is really interesting um I think their message really um and if you want to get more into it they have a really great program with the Chester trades education project that's a two-year program in carpentry um I think what the most important thing is that they were saying you know we have a lot of options for our high school students to help them get to where they'd like to be in their career especially if sometimes it's not offered at

the high school level but it would be something they'd be interested in so they're always willing to meet and talk with and we know that Mr dockley and his team have already taken advantage of that we currently have 18 dual enrollment students at 119 credits this semester that's about two courses per per student and we have 226 members of our community enrolled at taking eight and a half credits on average they also launched for all the families out there listening they launched four new videos on financial aid they shared one of them with us it was um it's something every institution should should make available to their students it really um is a very easy video that helps them understand the financial aid process the federal level and at the local level um they're launching

six new programs cyber security Human Resource Management Early Educational to professional Core Curriculum um Spanish for the professions one and two and Trauma studies so if anybody's interested they have launched those new programs and remember that this is an opportunity not just for our dual enrollment students who get each course for 180 dollars are are all of our community gets it for about 380 dollars per course and that is about 60 percent less than what you pay if you're a non-sponsoring district so if anybody's thinking about going back and furthering their education Delaware County Community College has so many options and really want to help with our community thank you so much Miss hunt I really appreciate how comprehensive all of the information is that you provide um it's a great reminder of just how

what a valuable partnership there is between the district and Delaware County Community College and all the services there and uh interesting side note about astronomy so I just thought it was interesting they had a lot of kids and they were willing to make a course for it and so you know they're just really wanting to get out into the schools and and help people transition from high school to college and moving on then do we have a report for the dciu and legislative from Miss Fletcher and I'm going to share a few things and I always feel in competition with the Community College I just I'm going to put that out there but the IU and the technical school are amazing and there's so much going on that I can only choose a couple of

things um the first thing I'll share is that this month the IU is offering a parent training program to provide strategies to support uh struggling Learners in elementary math um that'll be on Tuesday November 29th if you're interested go to the IU website dciu.org so that's for parents who are looking for help for help excuse me um Also earlier this week President Biden gave a speech where he spoke about raise the bar unlocking Career Success and I want to give the IU a little pat on the back I think I had mentioned a few months ago that there was an opportunity um the IU board asked the tech department who runs a laptop repair program if they could include students in the initiative and it provided summer gigs and training in that area and it

was so successful that it's now expanded several more schools have signed on so it's just a great example of um of of those opportunities um on the legislative front the elections are over and certified and so we'll soon be represented by Jen O'Mara and Lisa barowski and we'll be retaining uh Tim Carney as our senator for the 26th District so congratulations to all of them and I think we look forward inviting them to see what we do here hopefully soon um on the law making side we saw a number of bills die at the end of uh this session and some of the ones that we're getting a little bit of Buzz included the open campus initiatives Bill a parental Bill of Rights and then there was also the September 11th uh moment of remembrance

Guild that didn't make it out of the Senate um bills that we will likely see uh resurface our breach of personal information Senate Bill 696 uh which looks like it will be signed by the governor if it hasn't been already um that bill tightens up the timeline for school districts and local governments to report data breaches to impacted individuals um also there's a school code cleanup Bill House Bill 365 that will likely pass and it just cleans up a lot of outdated language it's it's housekeeping basically um we think we'll likely see the financial literacy Bill come back around it had bipartisan support um and and I think it's very interesting but it seeks to put another mandate on schools without really giving a path forward so yeah so psba is continuing to look at

other options to address that content and I I just have a couple more things one is that um the psba legislative advisory Council we get to kind of hear about things being proposed and then offer the board perspective um so one of the things one of the things that had been mentioned recently is um a child reunification act that would require school districts to hand out um ID kits to parents in case something powerful were to happen we would not be responsible for the kids the kids would be handed to families if they ask for them and then those families keep them at home but in hearing that I thought that it would put more responsibility on an over taxed district and it kind of makes us act like a a Clearinghouse in a way

for some of these these little tasks that could be there are other options doctors offices perhaps I mean there are just other options um some of the other advisory council members also thought that the Optics of having schools handle that in any way was a very uncomfortable situation so psba is trying to steer us away from having that land in our laps but I just think it's an interesting example of what psba does for us and and the work that goes on in in that advisory Council also um just a little last bit of psba news uh after a spirited debate um the 2023 platform was adopted the delegate assembly took place two Saturdays ago I attended that virtually as a voting participant um ultimately all of the suggested platforms and platform amendments were passed

they included so these are additions to the existing platform enacting meaningful Charter uh School reforms providing a significant continued Financial investment for school districts addressing Pennsylvania's pension funding crisis and providing for the safety and mental health needs of students and I just wanted to add that as we get close to platform submission time next year if we feel passionate about a topic um and would like to see if we can have it added to the psba platform we should probably begin thinking about that having conversations probably as early as April or May thank you very much Miss Fletcher that concludes the board liaison reports so we'll move on to our superintendent's report at the November 10th board should be the results of the audit of the financial statements from June 30th 2022 were reported by

representatives from the auditing firm of Barbara Kane Thornton and Company once again the auditor is issued unmodified or cleaned opinions on the governmental and business activities each major fund and the schedule of expenditures of federal awards for the period ending June 30th 2022 they also issued unmodified opinions on compliance related to the district's internal controls and the district's compliance with Federal award program rules and regulations I'd like to congratulate and thank our business office staff for once again receiving a clean audit this time for the 2022 fiscal year in the season of giving thanks I'd like to extend my gratitude to the entire School Community for their support and commitment to the education of our students I'm grateful to be able to work with such an amazing and dedicated group of individuals throughout our organization

and in a community that pulls together in the spirit of cooperation and collaboration to support our students I wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving filled with family friends and gratitude thank you Dr T Marina linen next up would be our solicitors report thank you madam president you may recall that at last month's report I indicated that I had participated on behalf of the school district before the board of assessment appeals on a number of hearings on October 19th following tax appeals filed by the school district both residential and Commercial they got the decisions yesterday and all but for two of the properties the court of appeals increased the assessment of the properties along the lines that we said were appropriate because the properties were under assessed one of the two that they didn't increase the assessment

on as it turned out I wasn't surprised the property had a lot of disadvantages to it and then there's one small residential property that didn't change the assessment on it so we so virtually all the appeals except for those two were increased by the more assessment appeals as the school district thought were appropriate I also have received in the last week or so uh about a 30 tax appeal arbitration on tax appeals filed by residential and commercial taxpayers for the year 2021 and so on January 5th absent any settlements or removal from the list I have about 20 arbitrations to try that they don't know how it's going to happen because it isn't but several of them will and then the following week on January 12th I have some more residential and Commercial tax appeals

filed by taxpayers for the year 2021 and there will be arbitrations on news that do not get settled or maybe have to be continued because not all of them obviously will be reached on either of those days and I'll keep the board and the administration apprises at how that unfolds on those two dates and that concludes my report Madam president foreign thank you very much Mr Kelly fall was keeping a surprise in the situation there and now on to the president's report I just want to of course wish everyone in our community a very happy and healthy Thanksgiving uh it has been an amazing year thus far in the Rosary School District and I am looking forward to hearing um and seeing more in the upcoming year and I want to thank everyone our families

of course our volunteers our faculty and of course our students everyone is really pitched in and just given a tremendous amount of effort this year and we do sincerely appreciate it I'm going to be moving on to our scheduled presentations um as a friendly reminder by the way shortly after scheduled presentations we will have our unscheduled presentation so if you're interested in signing up for an unscheduled presentation the sign up sheet should be in the very back there and we would encourage you to do so so Miss Jeanette herder will be available for our scheduled presentation thank you good evening everyone The Rose Tree media Education Association recognizes American Education week Across the Nation Under the Umbrella of the National Education Association we are coming together as families Educators and communities to pledge our support

for excellence in public education for all students great Public Schools transform the lives of students and their communities so we can create a more just and inclusive Society together we pledge to unite as one voice for our nation students demand Justice and equity for students and educators stand up for educator rights and safe working conditions advocate for local state and federal policies that guarantee an equal opportunity for all students to succeed share with our personal and professional networks about the challenges facing our students Educators and public schools and work together to find solutions for these challenges your local teachers are continually grateful for our education support Personnel secretaries transportation and maintenance workers cafeteria staff administrators and School Board we are proud to work beside each of you every day serving the students and families within

the rose tree Media School District thank you so again we're moving on to unscheduled presentations disc residents and taxpayers wishing to address the school board are encouraged to do so at this time who ignite and just strongly suggested and speakers should please State their name and the municipality for the record before commenting comments are limited in three minutes and the school board May suspend the public comment period after a reasonable amount of time use a profanity shouting a personal attacks are discouraged and please note that the public comment periods intended to provide an opportunity for citizens to address the board but it is not an opportunity to participate in public debate or question and answer dialogue uh therefore contact information should be provided to the administration and the board so that the school district can

follow up with citizens concerns following the meeting as always I do apologize if I mispronounced anyone's name our first unscheduled speaker is Jillian Burke Hyatt hi my name is Jillian and I go to Media Elementary School I'm here to talk about women's sports and how they should adopt some women's sports teams we need to do this because everyone knows about the Eagles the Phillies the Sixers the union soccer team but there aren't any women's sports teams anywhere in the school that you could see when I was in fourth grade I wore this Macario shirt and one of the boys asked why are you dressed like a policeman I was upset because they didn't know that it was one of the Women's National players we could make women's Sports more visible you could make my own

sports more visible they could adopt New York women's soccer teams called Gotham or the New York's Women's Basketball team called the New York Liberty Philadelphia does not have any professional women's teams we could also adopt the U.S women's national soccer team because it's the best in the world so I feel strongly about this because I'm a very good athlete and I need more women's sports Role Models not just at my home but also at school thank you very much it's a lot of courage to get up and speak at public comment we do appreciate you coming to speak with us today our next unscheduled comment is Sarah McKay hello first off I want to thank you guys for everything that you do in our school for our staff and our children I know that the

pandemic has been extremely tough to deal with and now on the heels of the pandemic we have a culture War taking place each month at our school board meetings and Beyond I am sure you are fatigued that you keep moving forward to make our schools a better place as we know there are a handful of community members railing against Equity diversity and inclusion work being done in our school and I'm here to Simply support the work the district is doing I can imagine that these families don't support who don't support the work or coming from a place of fear of fear that if something has been given to some students it must mean that it's being taken away from their child but Dei work is not an apple pie if one student gets a slice

it isn't one slice less for others when you're a parent of one child waiting for your second child to be born you wonder how could I ever love another child as much as my firstborn the moment you see your second child your heart expands that's because love is Limitless just like Limitless love supporting respecting and seeing all people can be Limitless as well because when you lift because you lift up one person you don't have to put another down Dei work isn't a seesaw just because you make space for those at the table that aren't normally there you're not kicking other people out of the table you're just bringing more chairs more chairs in the form of diverse staff diverse literature diverse thought accurate depictions of history that are filled with truths windows and mirrors

for our minority students and awareness and compassion when you put a handicap ramp in a school not only do the children with disabilities get to use it and be included but the able-bodied students can use it too it's a win-win because my white children learn and go to a school that honors diversity equity and inclusion that doesn't harm them at all in fact it liberates them when you fail to see someone's life experience that is different than yours um and someone and you fail to see someone else's Humanity you're shutting down your empathy and denying your own Humanity that's a lose-lose when you refer to non-binary students as she him or whatever animal as some people have done in the past at the school board meetings you are literally denying their humanity and in turn

denying your own there is no Sinister indoctrination happening teachers aren't telling kids Behind Closed Doors they're white and evil they are just making sure that no matter what race what ability or disability what their learning strengths and differences are whatever their gender expression or sexual preferences are that they are afforded the same high outcomes as the mainstream dominant culture i for one want my children to grow up with big hearts and big Minds to think complex thoughts about our society and learn how to take care of each other not just their own thank you for all the work that you do and I'm eager to watch the progression thank you all right I believe that concludes our public comments let's get the public comments seeing no communication otherwise in that case then we will go

on at this time we don't have any old business so we're going to move on to new business um first up is A1 we accept the retirement of an administrative employee do I have a motion so move do I have a second second discussion um yes um the board would just like to recognize retirement or superintendent Dr l d Marino Lennon Dr D joined the staff of rose tree Media School District in 2000 during her tenure Dr D served as a psychologist principal of the Simon Youth Academy director of people services and special education and superintendent she is retiring after 34 years of public education service 22 of those years have been in Roastery media now it's not effective until December 26th however um Dr demarino Lennon uh has done a lot a great deal

for the district and I know the board and community members are very grateful um for her years of service and it's hard to we have a little blurb that says thank you for doing this it's hard to really uh address how much she has done for the district uh you can just look at the past two years which were a challenge for everyone and we made it through and I'm sure we made it through because of her leadership um but her leadership is more than just the past two years and uh I for one want to thank her for everything I was a member of the school board when Dr D was hired um and she was a standout then she was a standout as our superintendent and I wish her all the best any

other discussion all I can say Dr D is that um to Echo Teresa or her comments it's been an honor and a privilege and I I do want to emphasize obviously that um being superintendent is certainly during a pandemic the most um uh Spotlight worthy if you will but your service commitment to Children extends Way Beyond just these past few years and your genuine desire to always Advocate on behalf of the child to always keep that in mind I think it's been a real Touchstone in our district and um I think in a very good and healthy way while we might not always agree all the time in all the means we always agree that put the children first and it has been my pleasure to work with you in that great for the experience

all right we had our discussion all in favor hi hi any opposed motion passes oh wow all right well the next is um for a two um do I have a motion for a two except the resignation of an administrative employee it's moved do I have a second second discussion I am not going to nearly follow what was just said about Dr Lee but we do want to thank um uh Mr Reed for his seven years of service and he will be moving on to the IU as the assistant to the executive director for student services we are happy to have him at the IU sad to listen here any other discussion I would just add as I'm sure I've said throughout the years that I had the pleasure of having both my children of

Indian Lake during the time that principal reader's principal there and I cannot thank you enough it was an absolute pleasure um those past couple years particularly during the pandemic were very very difficult and you were incredible as far as reaching out to the children making sure that they felt connected to the school despite the incredibly difficult circumstances I felt like I survived second grade again um and I thank you for that because well I needed I needed those reading moments when you would read to the students and I'm like thank you thank you for giving me that so I do sincerely thank you for the dedication commitment you have given and I wish you all the very best I know that the Creator Community will benefit um so while I'm sad I'm also happy all

the best mystery any other discussion all in favor any opposed motion passes this is tough tonight people all right now we're going on to A3 which is accepting retirement of the classified employee do I have a motion so moved two I have a second second discussion uh the board would like to recognize the retirement of Anthony rizzunis bus driver for the district uh Mr brazunas has been with us since 2008 and he is retiring after 14 years of dedicated service to the district any other discussion just all the best whom in his retirement 14 years driving the bus with all those active Minds that must have been an incredible experience so we do thank you all in favor hi any opposed motion passes all right so next I'm going to propose that we group a

four and five together in one motion is there any objection to my doing so hearing and seeing none do I have emotion still moved second thank you Mr Dennis all right do I have a discussion all right all in favor hi hi any opposed motion passes next up is number A6 approve appointment of administrator do I have a motion so moved do I have a second discussion um it's appropriate to thank Mr Dougherty fourth step again uh to serve as uh Acting Superintendent for our district um we've been here a long time and we appreciate your dedication um and under your leadership um I'm sure we'll continue to be full steam ahead in all that we do so thank you any other discussion all in favor any opposed motion passes all right next I'm going

to suggest that we group a um oh my God yeah that we group A7 sorry my my scribble uh let's just do A7 by itself that's approve appointment of administrator do I have a motion so move do I have a second second discussion well I would like to give a very hearty warm welcome um if we motion passes to of course the new incoming principle of Indian Lane um it will be very exciting of course uh to have her um although certainly a great loss to sprinton Lake Middle School so I know that has been a difficulty I always could not pronounce poor one's last name Michelle Britton which is a very easy name to pronounce so Michelle thank you all very much for everything that you're doing um we look forward to continuing having

you in Indian Lane although now I'm sad to see it go to springton Lake Middle School because that is where I'm at right now yes indeed any other discussion and feel better Michelle as well sorry that you had to miss my job of welcoming you and back into the district there but this probably wouldn't make you feel much better the way I mess with your name all right any other discussion um I'll just say that those of you who know uh Michelle Britton knows that she's a wonderful person um she did a wonderful job at springton Lake and she will also do a wonderful job at Indian Lane um you guys are getting a great principle agreed any of the discussion all in favor aye any opposed motion passes certainly an emotionally fraught even anymore
