I'm looking forward to working with both of you over the next year. December is always a very busy time for central administration. It seems like there's so much to do and so little time to get it done before our winter recess comes around. Here's just a little update on some of the things happening. I'm very pleased to announce that the Scranton School District was one of five recipients of the Certified Teacher Registered Apprentices in Pennsylvania grant. This grant is in
009conjunction with King's College Education Department and will work to address the current teacher shortage by creating a way for professionals such as teachers aids and paraprofessionals who have a bachelor's degree to earn their teaching certificates. I'd like to specifically thank Tim Wolf for his efforts in securing this grant and working with King's College. Wave one of the algebra 1 2526 winter Keystone exam testing took place last week. Literature and biology will take place during wave two, which is the first and second week of January. The winter break will be held December 24th through January 2nd. School will resume on January 5th and the second quarter will end on January 22nd. An organized site visit was coordinated for any secondary teachers using Magma Math, which was a new program we brought in this year, offering face-to-face
010support visits from the representatives of the company. The sessions were held at multiple schools sharing tools, uses, and tips for teachers. And if you follow the weekly updates, a few of our teachers placed in the national contest for using. So big congratulations. 40 K4 teachers attended a literacy workshop that focused on expanding the science of reading professional development. This was co-presented by ER and D and Title One teachers and I'm happy to say the feedback was very positive. We're also working with the science of reading professional development for our secondary teachers and we'll be meeting to finalize that right after the winter recess. There are multiple curriculum writing committees who are continuing to work on integrating new state standards into K12. Their cover content for economics, work and career, co-op, family, consumer science, business, and
011personal finance. Um, and this will be the last time I address the public before the new year. So, I would like to take a moment and for all people celebrating, happy Hanukkah, merry Christmas, happy Quanza, and to everyone, may you have a very, very happy new year, and may 2026 only hold positive things for all of us. I'm looking forward to working with this board to continue the wonderful things that are happening in the Scranton School District. Um and we've had emergency situations where we're trying to rely on cell phones right now director clary it's not an efficient system.

Roll call. >> Uh, Mr. Leki. >> Yes. >> Mr. Triano? >> Yes. >> Mr. Brazil? >> Yes. >> Mr. Casey? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Chzik? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Clearary? >> Yes. >> Miss Fox? >> Yes. >> Miss Merkel? >> Yes. >> Mr. Borthwick? >> Yes. >> Nine. Affirmative. >> Okay. Back to on the
040Oh, did you get a second for the personnel report? >> I don't think so. >> I believe I did. >> Second. >> Got it. >> Okay. On the question for the personnel report, >> does this amendment mean something for administration or is this okay? Does this affect anything? >> The amendment of the personnel report, it just strikes out the resignation of >> Yes. Does that have any impact that we have to be concerned about or is that okay to >> we could vote on next meeting? >> We could presumably >> I don't I don't have enough I can't make a confident statement right now. >> We could presumably accept this next month if needed. Correct. Will come? >> Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Okay. >> Okay. Roll call. >> Mr. Tiana, >> yes. >> Mr. Brazil, >>
041yes. >> Mr. Casey, >> yes. >> Mrs. Chzik, >> yes. >> Mrs. Clearary, >> yes. >> Miss Fox, >> yes. >> Miss Merkel, >> yes. >> Mrs. Leki, >> yes. >> Mr. Borthwick, >> yes. >> Nine affirmative. >> Okay. to the next resolution. And before I read it, I would like it to be uh removed from the agenda until we could get more information on the um approved staff loss proposal. And as chairman of the personnel committee, I would like to call for a article 10 meeting with the um SFT union so that we could discuss this. I think you have to introduce the motion before we can table it. >> Okay. I make the motion to approve stop loss proposal. >> Second. >> I would hope that everyone would vote no or there would
042be a motion to table it. >> I make the motion to table. >> I'll second that. >> Okay. >> Is there any concern from administration at tableabling that at this time? We just need to make sure that um we are able to get it in by the 1st of January and that we do a consensus vote if a new proposal is brought forward um and then ratify it on February 2nd. >> Aaron, your solicitor, um would I be able to call as chairman a executive session of the personnel committee? Would all board members invited for this Thursday night at 6:30? Yes. >> Do we need to advertise that? >> Yes. >> I don't think we do because >> executive. No. >> Okay. Then if anybody um doesn't have a problem, I'm calling for a personnel
043committee executive session to comply with article 10 uh that we meet with the union um and go over um what we have here. I have a lot of questions that has been brought forward. One um I think in the um in the proposal that I read, it sort of calls for a consortium. Uh and I'm would like to get clarity on our stop loss, how that might affect our employees. Uh but uh we can discuss all that on Thursday night at 6:30. And I call for the meeting to be in um uh Scranton High in one of the uh rooms. >> Okay. >> So, we are not asking questions on this proposal. Pardon me? No, we're not asking questions on this proposal now. >> It's still Well, it's still a question. If you wanted to
044publicly speak, everyone gets to go around twice. >> Okay. >> If you wanted I mean, you're welcome. >> I'm sorry. I didn't mean to inter Are you done? I didn't mean to interrupt you. >> Yeah, you could speak. All I'm doing is asking for this motion to be tabled and for us to be calling for a personnel meeting at Scranton High on uh Thursday evening at 6:30 and um a meeting uh that would comply with article 10 so that we'd also have a discussion with union representatives on this issue. >> Do we have to make union representatives aware of that time? like I I just don't want to commit to something and it's not good for everybody. I want to make sure everyone is there. >> Well, um >> we have to invite them. >>
045We do have to let them know. >> Yeah, I think we have to make them know, but I don't think they'd have any problems with it. I haven't talked to anybody from the union on it. I I would I would ask if I if I may I that that that time has been suggested that I could confirm that the HR director if we need the insurance that myself that the other people that need to be there are available at that time only because it's a very short notice. >> Well, I'm not asking for the uh the vendor. I'm asking only for the union to be there and the board members so that we can discuss this because I know that there's been some uh uh >> I would hope I'm invited If you'd like to
046come, you you're more than welcome to. >> I would hope that I'm invited. Um, so >> I never selected you before. >> Uh, I would I would like to just see can I make sure that Mr. Wolf's available, that the people who are involved in this >> just because I I didn't have any prior knowledge of this beforehand. >> I know you didn't. >> And I would hope that our administrators who get paid would make themselves available. >> Okay. All right. Anybody else? just table it and then you know >> maybe put it out there that we're going to have a meeting but not schedule a time or >> you know in place until we kind of clear that with everybody to make sure everyone can be there. >> Could you get together with the
047union and coordinate this >> uh with in the back of your mind that we need to try to get something done by next month? >> Okay. >> I think the contract ends in February, doesn't it? We we have to have this done by the 31st. >> Well, that's why I'm calling for Thursday night. Okay. >> Uh because I believe this is the first time that we've actually met on it. I think the administration met on it and I think there's a lot of board members who have questions on it. >> Okay. >> That's why I'm asking for Thursday night. >> All right. Anybody else >> to expedite this? Um, I have a couple questions on the proposal that's in front of us. So, it does put us into a consortium. I know that an RFP
048was sent out by um the firm. Are there other options? And I don't know, Mr. Wolf might have to answer this, but are there other options that are available other than the consortium option? >> I believe it's solicited from 26A plus or A++ rated insurance companies. I believe there was six proposals received based on BSI's uh evaluation. This was what they felt would be the most beneficial to the district. Um I do know we are trying to schedule a meeting with them either tomorrow or Wednesday to look at other options. >> Okay. Could we have some of those other options if we have this meeting Thursday? My other question is if we do end up going with this firm, is there a way to negotiate that um cap? Because I feel like the cap of
04925%'s extremely high considering the average premium increase is usually between 9 and 10% and the high end is 13. Yeah, I'm I'm sure there's there's always a little room for negotiations. I I will say I don't think our current contract has a cap. Okay. >> So, like you know, some could if rates warranted themselves, they can come higher and above 25%. Um when we did speak with BSI, I believe, and we will clarify this, Mr. Chucky, uh that if doing during a renewal process, if they did come back with an increase of that size, because I I said the same thing. I'm like, what's the likelihood of this? We would not be obligated to renew with them. we can go to market and find something more competitive but we will we will verify that. >>
050Okay. And then my last question is if we do end up going with the consortium and we decide we want to pull out is there a fee associated with pulling out. >> That's we'll find out. Okay. I don't know. >> Thank you. >> Would we be able to pull out? >> I believe my understanding is every year on an annual basis you have the opportunity to you can either renew or not but again we will get conf uh firm answers for all these questions. >> Okay. The other questions that I've been getting calls on uh from employees is with prescription medication and I don't fully understand it but it's a step by step by step where if you're uh prescribed one drug um >> that uh Director Casey this actually doesn't have to do with
051stop loss but if you want to mention to or bring that to Dr. King's attention after the meeting. We can do that. >> You know what? That's what I wanted to talk about at this meeting, Tom. Uh now, I know sometimes I may be lax at uh missing meetings, but uh I don't think the board as a whole has ever discussed this uh as a board. It's being put in front of us and now we're getting questions from employees. And that's why I'd like to call >> executive. Yeah. That's why I'd like to do it in an executive session to get these uh questions answered. A and that's why I'm calling for an article 10 so that we can invite the uh unions to come in and tell us if they have any uh questions
052or problems or um keep the lines of communication open with the union. >> Yeah. And that'll be our our place where we can do that. And that's why I'm trying to do it on Thursday night >> because we're running out of time >> and I'm not going to kick this down the road and until and at the last minute we're told, well, you have to vote for this. >> I'm I'm with you fully. Um, so we'll work on that. Either you or or Jenny can email the board once we figure out the time and the place. Um, does any >> Jenny, can you work with uh uh the union and the union? Um, is there any union representatives here that might be able to say Thursday night? >> There is. Yes. >> Can you come
053to the >> Do we have a process for social media policy? >> Are you okay, bud? >> Get a little nervous when I hear bags. >> I I got you. >> Yeah, if you wouldn't mind coming up for a brief moment. >> I mean, we could settle this right now. >> I don't know what it would be under. >> I'm searching article. I don't think it's coming up. Do we have we have a policy to schedule these process? >> Um it's um through the collective bargaining unit the our agreement of article 10 meetings which the board or our the union could request. Um I I can't just say yes to Thursday night without checking to have our executive committee or the enough members of our comm executive committee that would be present for the meeting.
054But I could certainly reach out but I would be remiss if I said absolutely yes and I'm one person. >> Okay. So, we'll we'll be in touch and and we'll work it out. >> I do realize the timeliness of it given the timeline for needing to have this approved and go through. So, we would work >> Why don't you coordinate it with Jenny and get back to us? >> Yep. >> Okay. >> All right. Sounds good. Thank you so much. >> All right. Anybody else? >> Okay. So, on the motion to table, >> ready. >> Do do we need a second time? >> No, we are. We had that on the question. Roll call. >> Okay. >> Mr. Leki, >> yes. >> Mr. Triano, >> yes. >> Mr. Brazil, >> yes. >> Mr. Casey, >>
055yes. >> Mrs. Chzik, >> yes. >> Mrs. Clearary, >> yes. >> Miss Fox, >> yes. >> Miss Merkel, >> yes. >> Mr. Borthwick, >> yes. >> Nine affirmative. >> Can't get to my second sheet. What's Approve a memorandum of understanding with SEIU Local 32 BJ designating January 2nd, 2026 as a paid holiday. the acceptance of thisou all 261 day employees of the district will receive January 2nd 2026 as a paid day off I so move thank you >> second >> that's it >> on the question based [clears throat] on the financial impact of the district and the taxpayers I will be voting no to this MOU >> Dr. Keing, do you want to give like I don't know like how much we could um [clears throat] state here, but do you want to give like
056a brief explanation about why this is on the agenda tonight? >> Sure. So, we we always come back to school on January 2nd. 28 years in the game. Uh could tell you that, you know, January 2nd is the return day to school. January 2nd, it's an anomaly this year. It's a Friday. Uh the district calendar clearly states no school for staff or students. Um people looked at it, people assumed that that they were off that day. Um, I met with the union who raised the questions to me and in addition to um to other folks who work 261 days a year. Um, I I think that it's a gesture of goodwill to them. They have ensured me that everything will be done for the opening of school on January 5th. Um, anyone who is scheduled
057to do any of the games or other things, there will be no overtime cost. Uh, we'll give them a different day at some point during the year. Um, but it was it was just an anomaly on the calendar. Um, I'd like to work with people. Um, I will make sure that the buildings are ready to open on January 5th as I've been assured that they will be um during the meeting when we had for this um and and that's what happened. School calendar. It says it. >> Thank you. I um thank you for that um explanation. Um, I will be voting in favor of this because I understand some um, individuals may have um, planned to have that day off based on the calendar and I would hate to revoke it now based on an
058oversight. So, I will be voting in favor of it. It's just one day. >> I'll also be in uh, voting in favor of it. Um, from a practical point of view, I cannot see bringing people in for one day, opening buildings, heating buildings. Um, and I have to believe that that day would be a large absentee day where we'd also be paying for uh substitutes, which actually means we're going to be paying double for the same services. Um, to me it makes no sense to open up the buildings and that's why I'll be voting yes. >> Okay, another question. >> Oh, I'm sorry. I meant roll call. My brain's fried. >> Mr. Fired. That's right. >> Mr. Triano. >> Yes. >> Mr. Brazil. >> Yes. >> Mr. Casey. >> Yes. >> Mrs. Chzik. >> Yes.
059>> Mrs. Clearary. >> No. >> Miss Fox. >> Yes. >> Miss [laughter] Merkel. Yes, >> Mr. Zleki. >> Yes, >> Mr. Borthwick. >> Yes. >> Eight affirmative, one negative. Motion passes. >> That moves us over. Sorry. >> I think that's all I have to report. Am I right? >> Yep. That moves us to vendor relations. Director Chzik [clears throat] >> policy. We pulled uh G. >> Oh, I'm sorry. We're right. We >> That's okay. >> Pulled. >> Okay. So, G2, we'll have a motion to approve second read policy 610 purchases subject to bid quotation. Second >> on the question I couldn't hear what were >> um okay so I could repeat this is a motion to approve second read policy 610 purchases subject to bid/quotation. We already did the first read um a couple months
060ago for this policy. Um just on the question um um I just want to be consistent with myself and how I I feel about certain things. Um, when I did ask a question about the services that we uh put out RFPs and then denied the RFPs, I asked the question of us still being in fin under monitoring of financial recovery. And under financial recovery, we were to put RFPs out for everything. So, I asked the question of what does that mean? A genuine question of what does it mean while we're under the monitoring phase and what we do or don't have to abide to. And when I did ask the one question of um attorney Moran, he said that we were still following the recovery plan because we put out the RFP but then denied
061them. So then I get I have questions on if that is the case then how could we switch the policy to no longer put out RFPs. I just don't think that we have a very clear understanding um of where we stand under the recovery plan and our requirements um and then aligning with this policy. >> So I I know that I I'm I'm actually texting Dr. Sailor to see if she's if she heard that because she did also give a a response on that I believe as well at one of the board meetings. um basically saying that PTE doesn't have I don't want to speak by no means do I want to be quoted as speaking for PTE so that's why I I >> texting Dr. Sailor um that they don't really have a say
062in this and that we were still adhering to the plan it was more just in the monitoring phase of watching our financials but I'm summarizing Dr. Sailor can speak I'm going to I'm going to let her speak Director Fox >> thank you >> Dr. Dr. Sailor, can you hear us? >> Dr. Sailor. >> I am here. >> Okay, we can hear you now. >> Oh, okay. Thank you. Uh yes, exactly as uh Dr. Heading said the department's suggestion recommendation is that you follow the advice of your solicitor. >> Okay. So yeah, and I do recall um Dr. Sailor saying that previously. So, I guess that's where um I think the answer still isn't clear because um attorney Moran said that we were still kind of following the recovery plan by putting out the RFPs and
063denying them. So, um I feel like our path forward with this isn't very clear of our requirements while in this phase, which is which is understandable because we're the monitoring phase hasn't been around for very long um in terms of recovery. So it's just my I guess concern of if this if this pol changing this policy um it no longer reflects the initiative in the recovery plan and is that satisfactory while we are still in that monitoring phase >> there there's no mandate for uh RFP process through the updated recovery plan the revisions uh comply strictly with uh the school code in its procurement provisions so it's essentially mirroring the requirements of the school code >> um okay well the amended recovery And I I believe the way it's stated is that it it it
064um changed some of the amendments, but then we're still >> um supposed to abide by all the initiatives in the plan. They just had to update some to get us. >> So, Director Fox, we we did follow up after your last question and and there was an email and I apologize because I don't know if I'm on it or if I'm not on it, but okay. It says, "By the end of January 2022, the district shall complete full cycle bidding timelines with the posting of the request for proposals for regular education transportation services, which is designated in detail. Um, and then it has something in parenthesis. All other contracts for services shall be bid by this date and the district shall continue on the cycle of rebidding for the duration of time while the district
065is designated to be in moderate financial recovery. What was sent back to us by one of the attorneys of JCM is that we are no longer in moderate fi um we're not in moderate financial recovery. We are just being in the moder um being moderated at this time. monitoring >> monitoring. So that doesn't hold to us at this time. That's what was sent to us >> by one of the attorneys. >> That is helpful. Is that something that we could be forwarded by chance or I mean maybe I'm not seeing you have to do it right now. You can >> No, no, no. I wasn't I don't think I'm I'm not on that email, so I apologize. >> I I I appreciate that information. >> Y >> Mr. Northwick. I'll be voting yes on this
066only for the main reason that uh I've been uh vocal about how we have projects that haven't been getting done. Um one example is why we're here tonight and we normally meet at Scranton High, but we can't meet at Scranton High because uh we don't have new lights. And the reason we don't have new lights is because we've been going round and round and round on construction manager, on architects, on this and that. In the meantime, the only people are getting hurt are the children who go to the schools. I believe it's Westside High School and Scranton High and about their lights. They can't use their uh auditorium. And the only reason I found out about it was because I talked to uh Bill Cochrell, head of the uh uh stage crew people, and he
067said, "Bob," he said, "These lights are somebody they're going to fall and kill somebody, but in the meantime, we've been going round and round and round, and all we're doing is uh stalling. It's two years since I brought it up, and we don't have anything done." So, I'll be voting yes in favor of this resolution to expedite this and many other projects such as the uh science lab at Westside High School. And I think we need to get on the ball and get projects done. >> Okay. >> On the question, um I will be voting no just based on the fact that I'm just not feel that I have been because I'm new to the board. I I don't have the background information to move forward with that. So, I'm going to say no. or
068should I abstain? I'm not sure. >> Abstensions, I believe, are for ethical Yeah. Yeah. conflicts of interest and stuff. So, >> well, I'll Okay, then I'm just going to vote no because I don't have enough information to make an informed decision. >> Okay. >> All right. Roll call. >> Mr. Brazil? >> Yes. >> Mr. Casey? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Chzik? >> Yes. >> Mrs. Clearary? >> No. >> Miss Fox? >> No. >> Miss Merkel? >> Yes. >> Mr. Zki? >> Yes. >> Mr. Triano? >> Yes. >> Mr. Borthwick? Yes. >> Seven affirmative, two negative. Motion passes. >> And I apologize. I need to jump back because we pulled two motions. Um, Director Merkel, you mind if we jump back to education and do D4? >> Oh, I'm sorry. >> No, that's my father. >> I
069was very confused, so don't mind me. >> That's that social studies curriculum motion. >> Oh. Um, there's a motion to approve the attached secondary social studies curriculum pathway and the world history curriculum as follows. Spring 2026 US history will be added as a highly recommended part of the pathway with the goal of board approval for full implementation. In 2027 2028 school year, the new pathway launches and US history and world history perspectives become mandatory graduation requirements. Financial impact none respectfully submitted. >> Second >> on the question. >> So we need we need to table this. Uh the wrong document was uploaded for public review. um that was brought to my attention late this afternoon. There's there's no rush on doing this. I want to make sure the right document has been out there and you
070have time to accurately review that. I would ask for you to please table this at this time. >> I'll make that motion. Second. >> Okay. >> That's just roll call. >> All right. Roll call. >> Uh Mr. Casey, >> yes. >> Mrs. Chzik, >> yes. >> Mrs. Clearary, >> yes. >> Miss Fox. [clears throat] >> Miss Fax, >> yes. >> Miss Merkel, >> yes. >> Mr. Zky, >> yes. >> Mr. Mr. Triano. >> Yes. >> Mr. Brazil. >> Yes. >> Mr. Borthwick. >> Yes. >> Nine. Affirmative. >> Okay. That takes us to vendor relations. Director Chesik. >> Okay. H3. Motion to approve agreement with Quandell for CM services. Um approve the standard form of agreement between the owner and construction manager Quandell Construction Group LLC. >> Second. >> Another question. >> Roll call. >> Mrs.
071Chzik, >> yes. >> Mrs. Clearary, >> no. >> Miss Fox, >> no. >> Miss Merkel, >> yes. >> Mr. Zki, >> yes. >> Mr. Triano, >> yes. >> Mr. Brazil, >> yes. >> Mr. Casey, >> yes. >> Mr. Borthwick, >> yes. >> Seven affirmative, two negative. Motion passes. >> Okay. So, H4, motion to approve copier and print services contract. Um so the the actual motion in the executive summary is blank for the name and the financial impact of course >> so on the question we're going to do that >> right so the sunshine act governs agendas there's no requirement for any level of detail of that detail um so you just have to pose it in the question >> so where we hit on the question somebody says that and we make a motion to
072vote >> yes Okay. >> Okay. So, we need a second then. >> Do we have a second? >> What do we vote? >> I do not have a second. >> Second. >> Okay. So, then on the question is where what attorney Joyce said is where we would come up with who goes in the blank. So, on the question, >> I think somebody just needs to make a they make a motion. Somebody just makes a friendly amendment. It' be a friendly amendment to put one of the prospective contractors in. I'll make the motion to put top copy in >> on to question. >> Sorry. >> Oh, I'm sorry. Who second? >> Trianna. Okay. Thank you. >> Okay. On the question. >> Um I know we were provided the city and tax revenues that um top copy
073would have for us because they are located in Scranton. If we look at all of the bids that came in, um there is one company that is significantly lower than Top Copy. But I did talk to Mr. Laffy earlier today because in the notes section of the revenues that we received, it did say that there was going to be um some real estate, additional real estate that would produce extra tax revenue for us. So, I did ask Mr. Laughey if he could get a closing date on the properties for us. So, we had a solid date and we knew that those transactions were going to happen and he did. And the closing date, I think you said, is Friday. >> Yes. in speaking with representatives from Top Business Solutions. The the properties that they had
074indicated in their correspondence, they anticipate closing on this Friday. >> Oh, wow. Great. >> Okay. Do we have a financial impact? We have estimated 5-year total of >> We estimate that the total 5-year contract from Top Business Solutions to be $996,660. Again, these are estimates. Uh it'll be the actual contract costs will be determined by actual usage of the uh units, but this is what we uh estimate based off of prior year actual usages. >> Okay. Thank you. >> All right. So, um I guess >> we still on the question or >> Yeah, we're on the question. >> Okay. On the question, so our who is our current provider? My understanding is it's Frasier. >> Our current uh current incumbent is uh Frasier. Yep. >> Okay. And um not sure if I even asked this
075on the floor. or we come have they been providing us a service that that's something I can ask. I'm not sure. Like has the service been okay? Have we had a problem with the service? >> We can't do that. >> No, that's like executive sessions. Okay. >> That's an executive session thing. >> Okay. That's why that's why I kind of was edgy about it. I wasn't sure. Yeah. >> Okay. Thank you. >> U Mr. Borthwick, could I comment on this? >> Yeah, put on the question. Sure. Um, as I look around, uh, all the members on the board, um, I'm the only one who is ever in the copier business. And to actually come up with a apples to apples uh, comparison when you're dealing with copers, it's it's almost impossible. I have uh put
076bids in against TOPS. I know what TOPS is all about. >> Uh TPS is a highly respected company in the copier business. Uh I used to hate to go up against them. Uh, but speaking from a person who has more than 12 years in the copier business, I would highly recommend them. I know their service is excellent. They have good products. They always have the best machines in the market. Um, not only that, but uh, and I can't speak for the new members of the board what their philosophy is, but I do know that the philosophy of the majority of members on this board has over the last two years have always been to deal with local vendors. If we don't deal deal with local vendors, uh we're putting money in another area's pocket for
077them to go to their stores, their restaurants. And when we buy off a local vendor or we go to a local vendor, what we're basically doing from an economic point of view is recycling the money that our taxpayers have given to us back into the tax uh base of the city of Scranton. And for that reason, I will be voting yes to hire top copy. Okay? even though they were a competitor and they beat me in a lot of jobs. Maybe I should have stayed. [laughter] >> Okay, roll call. >> Um, Miss Clearary, >> no. >> Miss Fox, >> no. >> Miss Merkel, >> yes. >> Miss Troslei, >> yes. >> Miss Mr. Trio, >> yes. >> Mr. Brazil, >> yes. >> Mr. Casey, >> yes. >> Mrs. Chzik, >> yes. >> Mr. Borthwick, >>
078yes. Eight affirmative or seven affirmative, two negative. Motion passes. >> Okay, that takes us to new business. >> Um I just have one question. Um and I'm sorry if I'm talking more than usual tonight, but uh I want to ask this question. Uh over the last couple weeks, I have been looking into and I've been working with uh Superintendent uh Keading and Mr. for uh DUCA on this. Uh we we have been looking into bringing into the district a program for aviation. Uh attorney Amo Manura has given us a lot of information which I passed out at reorganization. And I hope people uh do we need to do anything special to uh create a committee or to look into this and or maybe to add it to our curriculum once we're done. >> I I
079did have a meeting on Friday with one of our local collegiate providers to look at a potential partnership for dual enrollment. Um I'm waiting on information to be returned to me. So once that is given to me, I will be updating the board with the possibility what that possibility is to move forward. But we don't need a resolution at this time to accept it or make a part of our curriculum. >> No, once it once we have a curriculum or once we have a plan, then I'd bring that forward to the board. >> Okay. I did give you information. I don't know if you had a chance to review it. I thought it was pretty intense. >> Yeah, I I did have that meeting to look at what steps would be phasing, timelines, requirements, money,
080startup, equipment. There's there's just >> By the way, I was talking over the weekend to one of the comm Lacawana County Commissioners and he was basically saying that there's a lot of educational equipment down at the uh Aoke International Airport that we may be uh interested in looking uh uh to obtain. Um, now I've asked uh Mr. Duca to head this if anybody has any problem with that. Uh, the only problem is I know that Mr. Duca will have to go up many times in an airplane. Uh, pardon me. >> Well, you're going to be an airbird. Uh, maybe Mr. Duca could contact uh the commissioner that uh told me that they had the information commissioner gone and see how we could obtain. Thank you. >> First of all, see if we want it and
081second if we could obtain it >> and um I would hope that this would become one of our top priorities because I think that it would help our kids and I think that uh it would attract a lot of uh new students to our district. >> That's all I have. >> That actually would transition well into actually did you have more new business? I I did have one thing that I needed to do. So, um when I when I did the introductions of the folks before um to thank our our musical guests, um the little the little boy who I introduced from McNickel Plaza, Sebastian Santos, I it didn't pick up on the microphone and the kindergarten is going to watch this tomorrow to see all of this at McNichols Plaza. So, I want to
082make sure that it it's it's on recording and this is probably one of the first times in my life that I [cough] couldn't be heard. So, um, Sebastian Santos is a kindergarten student at McNicholas Plaza and over the last two years, he personally saved $24 and he donated that $24 to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Um, and he and his sister worked together to make sure that they could save and they could give back to this the the kids who are in CHOP. um so appropriate at the time of the season uh to talk about giving um and sacrifice and is a role model for all of us. Um and I am so proud of Sebastian and his sister and what they did and I just want to make sure that the kindergarters at McNichols
083Plaza, big shout out to McNichols Plaza are able to hear that tomorrow. >> Thank you. >> Um Dr. Keing [applause] I just wanted to thank you um several months ago. I can't remember exactly when. um when I I suggested doing like the acknowledgements and recognitions and you took it and you ran with it and [clears throat] just acknowledging our faculty and our students at every meeting. It has been so positive, so inspiring for me as a board member and I cannot thank you enough for working behind the scenes and putting so much of that together. [cough] So, thank you. Yeah, a lot of good things are going on in this Grand School District and it's been a great pleasure for me and I'm sure all my colleagues up here to see that every meeting and
084and I look forward to it every meeting. >> Tommy, on that along with Danielle, um I want to say this about Aaron. Aaron and I are not afraid to yell at each other. She yells at me and I yell at her and that's the way I want it. And don't you ever, ever think, Aaron, that you're not appreciated by me because someday you're going to be Secretary of Education. You've already turned this district around. And being in my second year serving with you, I appreciate you. I appreciate your dedication and I also appreciate you telling me to go to hell. [laughter] >> All of us have done it at one point or another. >> Well, I'm used to it. You talk to my wife. >> Seriously, she can work with you. She can do anything.
085>> Well, no, I'm being very serious about Erin. She's the best thing that ever happened to the Scranton School District. President, >> she won't comment on that because she's too modest. But I want everybody in the district to know that we are so lucky to have her. And as I said, the part that I like about Aaron is that her and I can yell at the top of our lungs and I want her to know that I respect her very, very much. That's it. >> Dr. Fox. >> Um, yeah. Sorry. Um if everyone agrees or not, is there any chance that we can maybe put something out on social media to explain our new meeting um format? Um >> absolutely we should. >> I Yeah, I suggested that I think the last week or so
086and I I think Sydney might have might have gone home, but Sydney and I are have a plan before the holidays. We're just going to put a Facebook post out doing [snorts] that. And then every week through January, we're going to keep posting information about the new format. And then um we're going to talk about how um public comment will work and how everything else will work. So the the agenda may change a little bit because we don't want people sitting here through a work session. So we'll do the honors like we did tonight. So we are going to make sure that's very transparent and put out to the public. >> Okay. Thank you. >> All right. For the Anything else? >> Oh, I said thank you. Sorry. >> Okay. All right. All right. So,
087for the president's report, um I just want to say that, you know, when I spoke, uh at the reorganization meeting, I talked about how in the coming weeks and months, we're going to be announcing like wonderful new projects and initiatives. And Director Casey bringing up aation and exploring that um is one of them. And you'll be hearing from us soon. I'm sure you you know if you paid attention to the agenda we recently well we just tonight uh entered into an agreement of sale to purchase a building which we're going to be expanding uh some very important programs uh that are absolutely necessary to the scrant school district. So you'll see press from us on that. Um and that's all I have for the president's report. So motion to adjurnn. >> Move. >> Are we
088going back to executive session? >> We are. >> Okay. >> Do we have a 10-minute recess before we go in the back room? >> All right. Uh can I get a second on adjournment? I second. >> All right. All in favor? >> I
