Our Father who art in heaven, be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not to temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen. Amen. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Roll call, please. >> President, Mr. Pink, >> here. >> Vice President, [clears throat] Mr. Kger >> here. >> Secretary, Mr. Anderson, >> here. >> Treasurer Mr. Cook >> here. >> Mr. Griffith here. >> Mr. Kashner >> here. >> Mrs.
Miller here. >> Mrs. Rhodess >> here. >> Mr. Okay. Meeting announcement. The next regular scheduled meeting of the board of directors is set for November 18th, 20125 beginning at 7:30 in this room. Uh students accomplishments. >> Mr. Karni. >> Car. Mr. Karn. >> Okay. Um tonight we have two students of the month here. Uh first I'll introduce middle school student Jordan Timco. So Jordan, you want to come up and say a few words? Don't be shy. >> Right over there. [laughter] >> I'm Jordan. Um I got into the National Junior Honor Society. I got accepted um on Monday. Um I I played junior high softball. I got the best offensive player award. Um, I did junior high soccer in um last um spring I got goalie of the year and I did Junior high basketball
last year and I got outstanding player award. Um I love to travel. I've been to 18 different states and um I play on two travel softball teams. >> Good job. >> What's your favorite sport? >> Softball. >> What your favorite sport? [laughter] Basketball >> Jordan >> right now. It is >> basketball. >> Hold on, let me make a note here. >> And who was your stepg grandmother? [laughter] >> Anything else? >> Jordan. Jordan's obviously very involved. She's I believe you're a catcher on softball team. >> Yeah. >> And uh that's probably why she makes a good goalie on a soccer team and she's a good basketball player. She's a very good student and uh she came over here a couple years ago from another school in seventh grade and has had a great experience and
as you can see she's involved in this student of the month. So congratulations to you guys. >> Thank you. [applause] >> And also we have high school student Veronica Quaid. >> Hi, I'm Veronica Quaid. Sorry, this is going to be a lot. Um, my awards and achievements. I've been in National Junior Honor Society, which I was awarded the second candle. I've been in PMEA District Chorus for three years. And I got second place in the investment um challenge for North Cumberland County. And I got first place in Schmoken. I got third place in the futures invite for track and I threw discus for that. And I also sing for the court, the corral for the chorus. Some clubs I do, I am a dancer at KKDC in Chimokin. Um, I do the Corral Quartet musical.
I'm the class of 2029's Treasurer. I'm in National J Honor Society talent show. I throw shot and discus for track. I used to play volleyball, but I do play on a t-shirt league. I do student council and I have apprenticeship at my dance studio where I teach ballet and tap. Um, my hobbies include scare acting, face painting, scare makeup, attending musicals, drawing, singing, reading, crafting, spending time with my family, babysittings, baking, photography, traveling, and helping others. >> Very good. >> Yes. [applause] >> When do you have time for school? >> Congratulations. >> Thank you. Okay, so some other stuff that was happening this past month in the high school. Um about two weeks ago, we had our college fair in our gymnasium. So we had about 30 college universities that showed up and we got
great feedback from those representatives of the college how well um behaved our students were and the the thoughtprovoking questions that they asked. So they were very impressed by our students. Um it was great feedback we got from that. We also held a financial aid night last week in our auditorium. Again, another great turnout. Mr. Weller, Mr. cave um coordinate that our guidance counselors and did a great job with that and they said there was a great turnout. They were very impressed with the amount of people that showed up. Um we gave our PSATs were given to our 9th, 10th, 11th grade students um last week as well in our audit in our auditorium balcony. We had roughly 20 students who did uh instant decision day with Bloomsburg University. So if those you don't know what
that is, Bloomsburg other schools come in to our library. students, seniors have the opportunity to get an instant decision, meaning if um they print out their transcript, they give it to the Bloomsburg University rep and the Bloomsburg University rep looks it over and they get an instant decision if they're accepted or not. So, we had about 20 students that did that. Um, recently we conducted our annual pace survey which was completed. We do that every other year. It's a survey that just gauges students and staff interests. Um, trunk or treat last night. I mean, anybody was out here was it was crazy. It was well very well attended. A lot of smiling faces, a lot of nice, neat costumes. Um, but that we had 52 trunkers, I believe, and and our best club puts that
on. Mrs. Glloic, Mrs. Mrs. Urban or Mrs. Carl, I should say, Mrs. Hughes. I don't want to miss anybody. I know there's more, but those three are pretty much the main three that really spearhead things and it was great, great, great turnout last night. Um, career fair was held on Friday will be held on Friday, November 14th. coming up again. Guidance counselors take care of that. Um they organize to get a lot of mostly it's our we try to get graduates to come back. Um so we have I think 20 to 25 right now and we're they're building to get more. Um but graduates are going to come back and meet with some of our students to talk about different career interests um career fields. ASVAB testing will be held in our cafeteria November 12th.
Um, and lastly, our National Junior Honor Society and National Honor Society ceremonies are going to be held next Wednesday, November 5th, here in auditorium starting at 5:30. >> Thank you, Mr. >> Uh, Mrs. Ner. >> Uh, I just want to start to say thank you to Jared Scandal. Um, over the course of the last week or so, he um went to our K4 through third grade classrooms and did like a little Halloween safety in each and every of those classrooms. Um, so we really appreciated that. Um at the end of September, we elected our student council officers. Uh so our sixth graders, um our secretary is Cadence Wolf Gang, treasurer Jayla Diaz, vice president Owen Ola, and president Evie Startell. So in January, we'll probably bring them back um to visit you guys at the
January board meeting. Uh to continue with some student council things, we also did um have our mother son blow dance. We had a lot of um feedback for the daddy daughter and we had lots of mothers requesting that we do a dance for them. Um so that was super successful. I just wanted to thank uh Jen Stashek and just Wolf Gang um my adviserss for that, all the student council members and especially Trey Eelberger. She put together um the meal for that and had awesome helpers uh to help us with that. You always do such a great job. you even did hot cocoa and cookies for me um this week uh for a part of my PBIS um reward. So, I can't thank you enough for all of that. Um things we're doing at school.
Um we just started to kind of slowly integrate PSSA. Um trying to pump kids up and our morning announcements. Um, we're going to do math on Monday, reading ELA on Tuesday, science on Wednesday, and we kind of follow up Thursday with like a trivia question. Um, and then Friday, we answer the trivia question and give them a little bit of a test taking tip. Um and then we are practicing um our multiplication facts a little heavier this year uh with our grade levels and we're going to recognize students who are you know doing 100 multiplication facts in a certain amount of minutes per their grade level just to give them a little acknowledgement there. Um and then also we had our uh refresh recess. It was um similar to the track trot from last year.
We were raising funds for our recess and playground equipment. So, a huge thank you to the wellness committee for planning and preparing for that. It was a huge success. We had um some of our students who did the most laps or raised the most funds were recognized at Friday's football game. Um and we raised about $3,000. So, it was really a great event. So, >> all right. Thank you, Mrs. Ner. Okay. Okay. At this time, any citizens comments? Okay. Work session. Uh, tonight we have three teachers who are new teachers here. I'd like to introduce them to our school board. Um, I'm going to have them come up and say a few words about themselves. We'll start off with uh who do you want to start off with, Mr. Persing? >> Uh, left, middle, or
right? >> Middle. Sierra Coleman. Sierra. Sierra Coleman, >> she looked like she was dying, like she didn't want to come up. So, >> so Sierra Coleman, uh, real quick, uh, first year teacher here at Smoken Area. She teaches high school English. I'll let her tell you a little bit more about herself, >> if I can remember anything about myself. Um, Sarah Coleman. I graduated from Lords right up the road in 2019. I'm from the area. Um, I specifically teach 10th and 11th grade English here. And I also teach mythology, so if that is interesting. Um, and I'm also an assistant basketball coach with Ari as well. So, I'm trying to think of anything else, but that's all I can come up with. >> First year, um, doing a nice job for us. She's getting involved
in some extracurriculars, helping out with the basketball program, which is nice. And, uh, she's doing a really nice job. So, keep up the good work and thank you. Thank you. >> Mrs. Lebo, come on up. Mrs. Lebo is a first year teacher for us, but I believe she's been teaching about seven or eight years um some other places. >> This is how you calculated. It's actually your 10. >> Uh she's a high school math teacher and uh she also helps out with something here at the school district also. So, I'll let her uh introduce herself some more. >> Yes. So, hi, I'm Amanda Lebo. Um I'm a 2002 graduate of Shiklami. Uh so not too far down the road. Um I have this is depending on how you calculate it actually year 10 in the
classroom. I taught for a year out of state in Virginia. Uh and then I spent seven years at Mount Carmel, a year at Montgomery, and now I'm back home in the Cole region and enjoying every second of it. Um here at Shimokin, I teach middle and high school math, uh a little bit of everything throughout the day, so it keeps me on my toes, but uh having a great time with the students. I also work with our marching band program, both football and competition band. Uh we're wrapping up our season this week uh for competition band on Saturday at Dallas Town. Um so yay go band. Uh we're currently ranked fourth uh in our class and hoping to sneak into the top three. So >> thank you Mrs. Mrs. Lebo. Uh >> actually, ironically, she
didn't start here at the beginning of the year. She was at another school. We hired her. She she had she was held at Montgomery. So she came unique situation. She didn't really start until I don't know end of September, midepptember somewhere in there. So and again you heard she's involved with the marching band and the competition band with Mr. Styer which is also a nice thing as a first year teacher here in the district. So doing a nice job. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> Now third certainly not last um but not least Ari. Ari uh teaches fourth grade at the elementary school and she's a graduate of Schmokan area and I'll let her tell you a little bit more about herself. >> Yeah, you got it for the most part. Uh Ari graduated from
Schmoken in 2021. Uh graduated from Miser Accordia with my undergrad in early ed special ed teaching fourth grade at the elementary. I was an assistant volleyball coach this season and an assistant basketball coach this upcoming season. But yeah. >> Oh, [laughter] >> what did Ben interview? >> I don't know. I'm not sure. >> Yes, >> I got a [snorts] That's is that on the sheet or what? [laughter] >> Wow. >> But yeah, happy to be home and happy to be involved in stuff. That's about all I got. Yeah. >> Thank you, Ari. Thank you. >> Ari's first year. Uh she, as you heard, she graduated from Schmoken area from Merordia College, uh Merordia University, and she's doing a great job in fourth grade. She's involved with the volleyball program, doing a nice job, doing a
great job with the basketball program also. And uh it's always nice when we can hire graduates and get them involved with the the kids. So, >> thank you for what you do, all three of you. Appreciate it. >> Good job. >> Yeah. Thank you all. >> Thank you. >> Okay. All right. We're ready to roll. Okay. We're going to old business. I need a motion to approve the board meeting minutes. 024cyber schools. And I can understand Mr. Stander seeing that he was a school director and knows the situation that schools are in. I know last time she had her feelings hurt when I said that the constituent should show up at her office. So, I'm going to throw it out there that I'm here the third Tuesday of every month. So, she'd like to come here and explain to us why she is voting against this. I think Maybe that might be the only way we could get an answer. >> That's all I got. >> Okay. Anybody else? >> Yeah, I I do want to uh mention our girls volleyball team. Uh made it to districts. Um we played on I think it was on Monday and uh we played um against Athens. They're up in the Northern
Tier, so they're kind of like a a different level of competition than us. But anyway, uh we lost unfortunately uh three games to one. We took the first game in a very exciting match 28-26, but then we kind of we lost our mojo. I don't I'm not sure why, but the girls deserve a lot of credit for what they did. They worked very hard. Uh I'm proud of them and I think uh they deserve credit for what they did and what they accomplished. So just want to mention that. >> Will you have something to say? >> You have anything to add to that? >> Go ahead.
