survey was just completed in January of 20120 so we really are only four years away from that and just wanting to point to that um and with the idea that not much has changed in that short time period but we're available for any questions that you might have thank you thank you Ken also hello chair kidani Vice chair Kim Senator Asimo Senator faill all for having us today and Mahala for hearing these resolutions um often times when we are in bargaining and it comes to the money part that's always safe to the very end and that's always when it's like well legislative deadline is here we can't talk about anything we can't figure anything out we can't have in-depth discussions about things and so that's why we feel that uh doing this study will be

important yes the department talks about a study being done last time and yet when we bargained for this one there was no meaningful willingness to make any changes and so we'd like to be able to have those Rich conversations and have the department come and sit and talk about them because they said well you know it's been fixed but how was it fixed we had to come to you to Big to get it fixed because they wouldn't take care of it otherwise and so we don't want that situation to come around again where we have to come back and big every time it starts to get all wacky and crazy and so uh we hope that you'll be willing to support this Bel model all these resolutions I should say thank you Chris Coffield Chris

Cofield is not here Raymond longson okay also not here where does it say okay okay Chris and Raymond provided written testimony only let me see zar christio here provide the testimony and support was this also written okay good to know thank you um okay members questions other questions you're raising your hand and standing looking at us I suppose you want to testify please come forward Angela Melody young testifying um in strong support um so the schedule for the public school teachers includes steps which reflects years of teaching and I'm concerned about care I mean sorry I'm thinking about something else right now I'm concerned about teachers if teachers are making a living wage um then they are going to be equipped to teach students right so when teachers are equipped with resources The Learning Experience

is fun and dynamic um and the structure of the step system should be examined especially for marginalized stigmatized lowincome impoverished districts such as khi kapalama um this is a concern and when teachers can provide um support at the community level the teachers can also raise up Community concerns um so doe is requested to collaborate with Board of Education um and also a few other stakeholders to develop a comprehensive assessment so we should be in favor of the schedule thank you thank you members questions no questions okay get one then compell I I got afraid with Angelo and stand up and hold her hand up so I stop her question for of doe according to your testimony doe address the salary comprehensive with least $55 million how has the impact on our teachers and hiring and

retention rate moving forward so we have actually a number of of efforts in order to keep uh and retain teachers as well as um you heard of the hard to fill differentials and other ways that we're trying to go about in retaining our teachers we think this has been effective I we do think the compensation uh addressing the compression issue is one um Avenue that has been successful and hopefully retaining our teachers um but it is one of I think a number of different uh exercises we've been using to kind of do that you guys don't give signing bonuses no signing bonuses like professional players just checking thank you chair thank you further questions members if not [Music] recess reconvening the committee on educ ation members we are discussing 142 sr1 171 um urging the
