She's like, "But there's a wall, you know, she's an outer. Okay. My eyes don't All right, we will start um this meeting. Uh first is roll call >> here. Hooks here. Colin here. Homer >> here. >> Jones. >> Neil >> here. >> Snider >> here. >> Windsor >> here. >> All right. Next, you will stand for the invitation and pledge of allegiance. >> Let us pray. Dear father, thank you so much for this beautiful day. Thank you for all these people who care about our children and let us do the best things that are for our children and put aside our own personal agendas. Thank you for everything you do for us. Guide us, direct us as we go about this business tonight. Thank you for everything in your son's name. Amen. >> Amen. I
pledge algiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Next on the agenda is to approve approve May 11, 2026 agenda. Motion made by Vivian. >> Second made by John. All in favor say I. >> Any oppose say no. And a motion carried to approve the May 11th, 2026 agenda. Next, we will like to welcome all of our visitors. There are so many in. So, welcome everybody. Next is to approve the minutes of the previous meeting, April the 13, 2026. All right. Motion made by Diane. >> Second made by Jody. All in favor say I. Any oppose say no. Motion carry to approve the minutes of the previous meeting April 13, 2026. Next is
we allow a time for public comment and we ask for anyone to make a public comment to sign up. Um and you can talk about anything and um no one has signed up so we will go on. Next is the student representative report and Miss Mariah I think she's she's a senior so she's got a lot of stuff going on. I don't know which agenda you have in front but there was an amended one to recognize teacher you don't have that it was sent to you but I think this one >> okay so um >> it's yeah it's the teacher of the year before these people get recognized and then they wanted to stick around They absolutely could. >> Okay. All right. So, next will be teacher of the year >> participation. >> So, school
board, we asked the principles to lead this initiative in their buildings to recognize the teachers with more than three years of experience for the golden apple and then the teachers with less than four years of experience for the green apple. So, Margaret Newton, Miss B, would you like to present your teacher of the year? Tonight I have the honor of recognizing two incredible educators at Margaret Dayton. Our green apple recipient is Miss Morgan Sutton. This is Miss Morgan's first year and she has created a kindergarten classroom where you see structure learning, student independence working seamlessly together. Watching her small groups run like clockwork is truly impressive. Our gold apple recipient is Miss Jenny Rodriguez. During her time in intervention and now in preschool, Miss Genie has supported students and teachers across multiple grade levels. Wherever
she is needed, she is there. She's incredibly creative and does so much for our school community. From balloon artists to making some of the most wonderful, she brings positivity and organ and organization and care in the room. Both Miss Morgan and Miss Jeannie met me clean classrooms, organized, and they are truly creating a place that's conducive to learning. I want to thank you ladies so much. So, so much. Um, and I'd like to present our green apple to Miss Morgan Sutton. And our golden apple to Miss J. Margaret. >> Well, this is my first year presenting this award. So, I'm going to tell y'all, I didn't know I was going to do this until a little bit ago, like this morning. So, I actually got to recognize these two wonderful teachers um at the end
of the day with a really nice announcement, but I also want to profound them during the day to tell them kind see them both. We're going to start with our green apple award winner this year and is it is coach Clay Hunter Medina. Um if you ever get a chance to walk in a sixth grade social studies classroom, that's the one you want to go to. It is exciting. The kids are vibrant and just happy to be there and they love you >> more than you could even imagine. I hear it all the time. We love Coach Clay. You know, we love Coach Clay. No, I love Coach Clay. >> So, it is I mean it's just an honor for me to present this award to Coach Clay and uh it is welld deserved and
we are so happy to have you. Coach Clay just is now wrapping up his third year. So, next year he'll be eligible for another one. So, we'll see how that goes. But, Coach Clay, if you would come up and GET YOUR AWARD. I DON'T KNOW IF YOU'RE HUGG. >> All right. And our gold apple teacher of the year award winner is Miss Die Ford. WE WANT WE WON'T TALK ABOUT HOW LONG IT'S taking there. It's been longer than me. She's a a fabulous teacher. It's kind of like Coach Blade. When you walk in the room, the kids just adore her. She loves Dr. Seuss and now they probably all love Dr. Seuss, too. But that's that's a good thing. Um I was in there what today I go in there every once in a while
and the kids are just so happy and they're learning. I mean, they are learning. You can see it in their faces. you can when you talk to them, you just know whatever she's teaching, they're listening and whatever she's selling, they're buying. And that's what you want because we need more people like Miss Naen in our school system. So, Miss Naen, it is a privilege and an honor to present the gold apple. I am truly honored to announce the high school's green and gold apple recipients. But before I do, I would like to simply tell you all how very proud and how blessed we are to have them here at our school. mainly because they have only spent one year at Lake County High School, but yet are able enough to inspire so many kids. Our
first recipient with the gold recipient is Miss Joy Crockett. No relation. Uh what Miss Troy has done is that Miss Joy has started the 50 book challenge for all freshmen to where all freshmen by the end of the year will be able to read 50 books. She's also incorporated AI into all the curriculum teaching teachers how to get into AI and how to incorporate that and also to work with us in terms of creating collaboration between the CTE programs as well as with the regular ed programs. But one thing that I love about Miss Crockett is that Miss Crockett is a go-getter. She is a winner and the students love Miss Crockett. So, we are honored and fortunate to present to you, Miss Crockett, the Green Apple. And we thank you all for your service
and thank you for what you've done. I I get it mixed up. Our green apple recipient goes to Mr. James Dial. Now, one thing about Mr. James Dial is this right here. He believes in the kids and the kids believe in him. One of the things that Mr. Dial has been known for is being the father figure. Let me tell you this story of what he did. There was a senior who was one of the top 10 and was able to come to the senior bank. He did not want to go because he asked his family and his family said we're not going. So he didn't want to go. But then he came to Mr. Dial and he said, "Mr. Dial, could you come with me and represent me?" Mr. D said, "I'll be there
to pick you up. I'll be there to pick you up and we can go together." And they sat there at that table, just him and that young man. And then at the end he said, "You have done more for me than my father has for ever." And that really meant a lot to him. And one of the things he also did was that the boys that went on competition with him never knew how to fish. Had no clue how to fish. And they went, I think it was in the mountains and they went to the mountains and it was cold. And one thing that he did was he parked on side of the road, got out and took the boys fishing in the cold. And the boys said they've never ever had anybody to take
them fishing. And this year for graduation, I'm very happy to say that we will have a new stage. We are retiring the old stage. It was all because of Mr. Dial and those boys working very hard. God has truly blessed us with two extraordinary teachers. And I'm very fortunate to have with us the green apple recipient, Mr. James D. All right. Well, thank you again and thank you to all of our teachers and all of your work and service for us. We really appreciate all the hard work that you do for our children. All right. Next is senior recommendation Shannon Holder. >> Board members, Miss Holder is in good standing and that she has left the state of Tennessee. She has been standing by with level of effect maintaining either a level four or five
for the last two years and has more than five years of service. Therefore, I am recommending her for the board that >> I'll make the motion recommend. >> I'll second that. All right. Motion made by Jimmy Dale, second by John. All in favor say I. Any opposed say no. That motion carried to approve. Continue recommendation for Miss Shannon. >> Thank you so much. >> All right. Next is bus engine replacement. >> I'm going to let Lacy speak to this, but she has given a lot of information to the board about our bus fleet. Thankfully, we're actually in really good shape as far as miles and years. If you don't know, a bus has a limited life of either 20 years or 200,000 miles. You can extend life of years on a year-to-year basis, but you
cannot do anything about the mileage. Thankfully, here in Lake County, as many miles as we run, it would still take a lot longer than 20 years to get to that 200,000 mile mark. But we do have a bus that is in disrepair, requires an engine replacement, but has a lot of miles left. And when you think about replacing a bus, and she gave you the estimate somewhere between 120 and $150,000, an engine replacement, as costly as it is, is still a lot better deal than trying to replace the glass. So, if I see anything I didn't get, >> no, I just want y'all to be mindful. We haven't bought a bus since 2022. Rule of thumb is is you buy a bus every other year to keep up with the fleet. We are okay. I
do a schedule on our buses every year to make sure that we are good with our buses. We can extend them if we need to. Um but with this bus, this is the backup bus. So right now we only have one bus. Just be summer, so we're going to be okay, you know. Um, but if we don't replace this and the the bus that we have breaks down, we don't have another step for these children. So, this is this is where we are at. We can replace this engine and put 33 plus,000 into this engine. This bus is a two a 2012. So, we only have four more four more years left of this bus. That's all we can keep it on. We can do an extension on that bus because it does have low
mileage. The mileage on it is about 100,000 miles and starts burn it. So when you do an extension, please keep this in mind. So an extension means that our state trooper Clint Todd comes in and he inspects our bus. If this bus does not pass, we don't get the extension. If we do get the extension, we have to pay $770 a year to keep this bus on the road. So, you're going to sink this amount of money to replace this engine, but then in four years, you're going to have to start sinking $770 a year into it and cross our fingers and say a little prayer that Clint Todd passes it because he can fail it for anything. So, I do want y'all to keep that in mind. So, right now, you kind of got
to weigh your options of is it better for us to buy less or is it better for us to put an engine on this? I believe in my heart so mind as where we are right now I think we will be fine putting a new engine in this bus um those that aren't familiar when you put a new engine in anything you want to make sure that all the other components don't need to be fixed as well so with this bus we'll put a new engine in there we'll also need to make sure probably replace the radiator there'll be some other things that may need to be done when we connect this new engine in this bus. There may be some other components that don't hook up to decision. You have to keep those things
in mind as well. But I do believe that we will be fine replacing this bus engine and us having a backup sped bus. I do want to encourage y'all in the future that soon we really need to start looking into purchasing a new bus because if we do not keep up with that, we're going to come to a point where we got to buy five or six buses at one time because we don't have buses. But this is completely up to y'all. I think either decision you make with this is the right decision. I don't think there is a wrong decision. This is just up to y'all about how much money y'all are want to invest. >> But the recommendation is purchase, right? >> I think so. I think that's where we're at. I think
if we purchase an engine and fix this bus, we will be fine. I just wanted to bring it to y'all's attention that it's coming. Like we really need to stay on top of this. >> So I believe the last bus that Jon was purchased with Esther money. I don't know the last time. Jame was back. The last time that a bus was purchased for general purpose, it's been a while. It's >> been five buses ago. >> So, we're we're kind of lagging behind. >> If we was to buy a new bus, it would be a special aid bus. >> No, not necessarily. This has to be fixed. >> What I'm saying like we really need to have a backup bus. >> So, to be clear about what a split bus is. So, it does not
require air conditioning. It doesn't require the harnesses unless a child requires a harness which can be modified. So we call it a sped bus. It's not different than it just has to have but it would be for anybody. You have to add a harness to it. So this one already has that built in. So air conditioning is not a requirement which is >> wheelchair. It comes with the special >> so you can do a lift outside of. So, it's not that you have to, but they sure are nice to have those. >> Does the bus we have have that lid? >> Yes. >> So, the this bed, the backup one that we have is perfectly capable of everything that we need to to run this if we So, and this is something else we have
to keep in mind, too. If we do have a wheelchair that comes in, both these buses have a lift on them. I I realize that I mean I've been told that that's not that requirement, but if we if we do have that I mean I I don't foresee my bus driver being able to get off the bus and put a kid in the wheelchair, you know, the monitor maybe. I don't know. I feel like that >> system I mean this is going to go to jail. I honestly think replacing the engine will be fine >> as long as we have a backup. >> So you have included quotes in the package which is the one that you're recommending. >> So Ascendant is the shop that we usually use. They've been really good to us. They're
very helpful with us. They are the closest one around here. And this is where the bus is currently. They they have the bus there. The bus is fine. It's secure. Um their total is 33,486. We called a company out of Jackson. That was the next closest one. Theirs is a little higher at $41,500. I've been desperately trying to get a hold of Jason's diesel worker in Kentucky and they just real um I recommend that we go with attendance. They're familiar with all of our fleet. They've actually worked on this bus before. Um so that's who I would hope that y'all would say that's who would be used. If we don't use them, we will have to tack on fees to the 41,000 to the tag truck center due to the fact the vehicle is not
drivable and it would have to be towed. That is a hefty bill in itself. >> Does this engine have a warranty on it? >> The new engine I would say will have some kind of warranty. We will not know that information until y'all give me God's blessing and I get all of that information. I will not know that. There's not many engines left in the United States for this bus. I will say that the last time I talked to the reason why I've kind of been like want to figure this out to make sure that we get that engine that they believe that they can get us. >> This might be a question I want to ask like not saying right now, but later if we purchase the bus, do we utilize the lift system,
the hoist system that we have on the bus get ready with hire or retirement bus? Is that something? >> I mean, you probably could take those parts off and put it on another bus. Do I recommend it? No. >> Well, said I wouldn't ask. >> I don't because you when you start taking parts off, you know, you start taking parts off this one, you start putting on this one, it obviously start causing problems. It may not fit. >> You may have to customize it to fit. And that comes with cutting and welding and all of the things. So, I don't recommend that. >> Okay. Our newest bus that we bought is a special ed bus, right? >> It is our newest bus. >> So essentially essentially if we bought a new special ed bus that
would go into SPE. >> That's correct. >> And it can be used. >> Yeah. >> And it's the new it only has 46,000. >> That's correct. >> Yeah. No, it has 36,000 miles. And that would essentially if we bought a new special ed that essentially would go into the spare where our athletics use it and everybody uses it. >> That is correct. >> But it would. >> All right. So I have a question. Yes. This may not be something we'll talk about right now and I just mentioned it to John, but I know that there has been kind of a sale on electric buses if we were to decide to get a new bus. I don't know what the cost of that would be. I know you would have to have install the charging station
and that kind of thing. So, the last time I looked into it, electric buses were running about $700,000. And then you have to pay to include you have to pay to include having somebody come in and do electric. >> That's a sale. >> Wow. there to conver and I will tell y'all this. I say on top of this I'm looking all the time for grants for those buses. I look frequently just just in case something pops up and I have to get on it and get it. So I am on top of this. I am looking I'm trying to find something right now. I do feel like the best route to go is to replace this engine so we have a backup speed bus. And let's just keep in the back of our mind that
soon we need to start talking about regular buses if that makes sense. >> Regular regular buses which are not expensive as the electric man. I was thinking we don't want that many. >> So I think um Dr. did you want to talk to them about the the funds that's coming back to us? >> Yeah. So there the outside of what Amy mentioned in our budget meeting which was her belief at the time barring some sort of major event she was expecting 600,000 or so to be left. It's not encumbered currently. The other part was is that there had been a mixup with paying for fuel and inadvertently been paying for the sheriff's department fuel. Did not realize that had been going on. And so actually there will be a check coming back to us for
somewhere around $50,000 in fuel because we had the same account and so we had been paying their fuel along with. So that money will come back which will be more than enough to pay for the engine. That's my >> I'll make the motion we replace the engine and use uh >> use ascendance. >> Okay. Motion made by Jimmy Dale. Second made by John to replace the bus engine using ascendance. Now let's do roll. Yes. Yes. Home. Yes. Jones. Yes. Worth. Yes. Motion passes. >> All right. Next is the local cyber security grant agreement renewal budget. >> Board members, you'll see that the state of Tennessee federal fiscal year 2024 state local cyber security grant program is in your package and it's a consent agreement. It is pass through money. We use this so that we
do not have to use our money or as much and we were asking for you to guarant correct me if I'm wrong. We're asking the local government entity to consent to the STS. Correct. >> That's correct. >> So it turns it into pass through money to pay for the cyber security. >> This would be our second year on this grant. is it it's our cyber security training and it's also for some software that we have on computers to block any um bad actors. >> Crowd strike is in in particular is nameless software. >> I'll make a motion to approve this renewal. >> Motion made by Jimmy Dale. Second made by Jody. All in favor say I. >> Any oppose say no. All right. Motion passed. Um for the local cyber security grant agreement renewal. >>
Before we leave tonight, I just need you to sign the form so I can send it in. >> Can I sign this? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Okay. >> Thank you, ma'am. >> Yes, ma'am. Uh next is Lake County High School CTE construction project review approval. >> So, board, I was asked to come over to the high school and see a presentation with Mr. Dial and his students and the The bottom line I used in the presentation is really repurposing the tennis court area and that tennis court. I talked to Mike about it today. I've seen this process before to make it usable for actual competition for tennis. All of that concrete would have to come up. It's not just a resurfacing project. Lights, bleachers, all of that. You're talking about tens of thousands of dollars.
So, in an effort to repurpose that area, Mr. D and his class have come up with a proposal which also then benefits our CTE students. It creates a hands-on work experience for them. So it's a project that gives them work experience and also helps with the campus. But I told them to keep the presentation down to under two hours. So are you leading that? >> All right. Two hours. >> Trust me, it will not be two hours. >> All right. Board members, I would like to ask you all to welcome um two very accomplished gentlemen. We did our um last week we did our freshman capston in which we were able to tell what our kids would like to do uh when they get beyond high school. And I'm very proud to have Mr. Bentley
here as well as Mr. Talon. Mr. Bentley is a future carpenter and Mr. Talon is a future engineer. And what we've decided to do is that we came up with this vision 2030 plan. By 2030, we're hoping to rebuild or reshape our athletics program. And one of the programs and one of the projects that we would like to do is that we would like to t turn that um tennis route, that tennis area into a parking lot for our football team and to make sure that people can park there, people can reside there, and even when they have events in the Margaret Newton, they can also park there as well. So I now turn it over Mr. Dial. you want to come up and also help them out too. They're not nervous. So, I guess
they did their capstone last week. They are ready to go. I turn over to you, Mr. Donn. You may begin. >> Okay. These guys have really worked hard on this project presented to us. They've been out. We've measured everything. They multiple multiple times. Uh we we went on Google Maps. I mean, they got the water department to find out which way the water is going to drain. I mean, Listen, the amount of time that these two students have put into this is just unreal. And for them to be freshman at that, I mean, it's just great. I'm very, very proud of them for doing this. So, Tal, if you want to get us started, kind of go with the presentation. >> Yep. >> Just let me know when you need >> Thank you all for
letting us present today. Uh this is slide was created by me and a few other of our students. Uh for this project, we'll be removing basically 30,930ish square ft of fence. And then that leaves room to repurpose the tennis court into somewhat of a parking lot for the football team to accommodate show or football shows. We have a few reasons that we've come up with it as listed up here. The tennis court condition being our first one. The condition of the tennis court has left it unusable and opposes many threats to people trying to use it or even messing around on it. If someone were to happen to get on it, get injured, this would be a liability for the school which would cause it problems and also it would cost money for the school
if they decides to or something like that happens. Another reason, like I said, this could be a parking lot for the football field. It helps to accommodate for that parking lot. gives us an area to put it and it that way the place isn't as packed and there's more room for cars to park it for people to watch the show. Or a third reason would it makes it Lake County High School look it a lot better makes it look a bit prettier and it just nicens the area. This, ignore my grand drawings up here too much here, but this just kind of gives you a quick look over everything. Yellow being the water flow, green being traffic flow. >> See, I told y'all they looked at the water everything. I think building one egg. >>
Uh these are the tools, materials and DP will be listed above. Uh we have a few different things we'll be using it in the tools and materials of course that PP being one of our most important parts of all of this we have taken in consideration a lot of it the PP side of this we'll be using gloves safety glasses boots jeans and of course staying hydrated the whole time to make sure that none of our students get injured This is just once again one of my drawings how we want this to look once we're done. Um this here is the tool usage that we'll be using and the material usage usage once again. what what the guy's done. >> We accounted for every single tool right down to the screwdriver that we got to
have. So, we got we have that listed up there. Like, we're going to use the CTE tractor. What we're going to do with it, we're going to remove the poles with it. U we've got the 9/16 wrench. These guys even went out and took a wrench out there to make sure the 9/116 wrench would fit all of the clamps that are on this. I mean, so I mean, there's so much planning into this that they're going to do this in one hour a day during eighth period. So they know when they go out there, that one hour has to be useful. We've got to we don't need to go out there and figure out we got the wrong wrench, we got the wrong tool, we don't have a tractor to dispose of. So these guys
at work and they're the ones that come up with this. All I done is stood in the background and they came to me and said, "Hey, we're going to need a 916 wrench." I went and showed them what a 916 wrench was. So, you good? >> Um, okay. um to complete the removal of the fence the winning class. These are the steps that will be taking to um first step, we'll be taking off the brackets, the BS. Um our second step after we both taking off fence and we'll put it on the trailer for disposal. Our third step is then we will take the tractor and we're going to blow up all the fence poles. And our fourth step once the fence poles are removed, we will fill up all the holes with dirt. Um
this is our fence and storage boat disposal. Um all the metal from all the metal waste from the fence will be stored with the other metal department. Um after that all the metal will be scratched and sold. Uh this is our timeline we came together with of what we're going to be doing over the lifespan of taking um doing this project. Our first day like I said we'll be taking off the brackets, bolts and fence clips. The second day we'll be going up we'll be rolling up storing the fence. Our third day we're going to be pulling up uh pulling up the poles and pouring asphalt. Fourth day we'll be finishing up all the poles with and then we'll be going to the dirt. And then on the fifth day we're going to go over
the site after we're done and make sure everything's clean. No, nothing harmful left out. Then after that it should be done. you're gonna get this done in five days. >> I think they actually actually coordinated this with the weather man for that. >> And I also want to let everyone know this is made in Lake County. Made in Lake County. Made in Lake County. That's our biggest project. Get these kids and keep them here to be resources here in Lake County. They're they're the epitome of what we would like to do. So this is what I present to you. Now, this will be a whole class of them. There's like seven or eight in that. These are just two of the ones that actually came up with it. They were like the supervisors of the
project. All the all the young men went out there, the tape measures and all of that, but these two guys right here are the ones that spearheaded it and guided it and took ownership of the project. So, I'm very very proud of it. Can't say enough. When they presented it to me, I said, "Make sure you understand there's policy that constitutes that the board would have to take action to approve to change property to to remodel and do something different with it." I thought it was a great idea, especially with the homework, and they've actually done a lot more homework since I got the presentation. So I was making the recommendation to you all. This is a great opportunity for this class. Mr. Dial is an exemplary teacher and if it's going to happen, it's
going to happen with him for sure and make sure that it's done safely and and to the expectations of what they have presented tonight. So it is up to you whether or not you allow them to do that project or not. But in either case, they've done a incredible amount of work in detail and presenting. So I appreciate that part. Well, I make a motion to construct the CTE construction project. >> I'm really excited to have more parking at Margaret. So I am no second. >> I don't I was going to make a suggestion. I'm going to vote for this. I was reminded of a trip to USJ several years ago parking lot. They sold spaces. That would be a good fun. That park is so close to the football field. You should you should
sell spaces and you can split the money between CTE and park. >> Not a bad idea at all. >> We got you down for the first parking spot. $1500. >> Oh, wow. You know, I tell you how I found that out. We parked there security guards. >> And I want to tell you right now, this is part of our 2030. We're open this by 2030 to rebuild our crumbling athletic infrastructure. We're doing it one step at a time, God will. So, we're gonna do it by our kids for our kids. >> How many um how many spots will the ten provide us? >> We're not real for sure yet until we start getting everything laid out. >> Okay. >> And when when will y'all expect to start? >> If y'all tell us we're good to
go, we may start tomorrow. All right. Motion made by John, a second made by Vivian. Let's do roll. >> Yes. >> Homer. >> Yes. >> Jones. Neil. Yes, >> Snder. >> Yes. >> All right. >> And next is the >> All right. Next is the Mckin Street performance contract. >> And Dylan and Paul are back. I just want to tell you that Sam got back with me today. He did review the performance contract that was submitted to you all. and Sam had no qualms with it and he said, "Please move forward." >> I'm gonna give I want you to at least have one of these. It'll be It'll be similar to what you presented. Um Talon, I'll tell you. Don't worry about crayon drawings. Paul still draws with crayons. He's a professional. So, >> no,
I think what you guys are doing is really cool. >> That's adorable. Anyways, you got something for you later. >> Oh, no. >> I'll see why they we're really excited to be back with you. So, uh, we've been here, I think, the last four months, at least at four meetings. Someone said, our LCS principal, I think he sent me here more often than um, no, we're really excited about this project. So, we've taken it from the the beginning all the way through final design stage. Uh what we did between last time and the new this meeting is we finalized all the architectural design, all of the mechanical engineering, plumbing design, got that off to the state. We had a final uh roundup with the fire marshall. So we've got some clarity on what's required. Um
and we're ready for construction if you guys will allow it. So what we're asking from the board today, uh per your request, last meeting was to come back with two options. uh trying to figure out whether we were preferential towards uh the tile option or the the resin option. I've got uh some really good news. Um but if no other questions about the project timeline, I'll go into the back just as an FYI. We're scheduled at this rate. We get approval tonight to start construction June 8th. That'll allow us to have a summer construction and be ready by August 3rd. So before schools get back or students get back. Okay. Next step is pre-construction. So uh on the left this is the general outline. So this is our new design for the restroom. Not too
much has changed other than making it ADA compliant and completely regutting all of the interior. Um we've got some examples of what tile samples will look like. At the bottom these are the themes that we're looking at. So, we're not completely married uh to these specifically, but they do match district colors. Um once we're in construction or actually after tonight, if we want to assemble a task force, we're going to need to make some pretty quick decisions on what colors are because we're looking to purchase materials as soon as possible. Okay. So, are you ready for the good news? >> Yeah. >> Okay. So if you remember if you remember last time I showed you the best option which sat at $597,000 complete top end of our fiscal threshold. So because of all the work
that Holman has done on the I pushed Paul No, I'm just kidding. What we did was we went back out, we went back out to the market and we said, "Hey, you know, where can we also go get some more help?" Um, and we found a couple of really good contractors who after sharing the story of what this project is intended to be, they're really rallying around this project and they're getting us some really good costs. So everything that you see tonight is firm and fixed guaranteed maximum price um and is we are ready to execute. So in my opinion this should be a really straightforward decision. However, this decision is up to the board. So let me take you through the two options. the tile floor option. That's everything that we've discussed. The the
upgraded plastic partitions that it's full tile walls throughout the entire restroom, complete tile floor, that's 568 with the windows. So, windows are included in the tile floor option for this price, right? Uh the resin cost did increase. So now resin is more expensive than what we anticipated, making the tile the better option, which is actually a lot better for the the restroom project because it's got a longer life. Uh there will be the occasional grout cleaning, but there's a challenge with the resin. This is the nature of elementary school bathroom. Sometimes if you have acid on a resin floor, think of your normal third grade little boy, um it tends to break down a lot quicker than tile. So for what this application is, the tile is a better option and more cost effective. Um
there's I'll mention it because there was a question asked earlier on all this work. If you reviewed the terms and conditions which have been approved, there's a one-year warranty suit to nuts, top to bottom material labor that's covered by Kinstream. What we do on the back end is we help you manage all the material warranties that sit behind it. So, gives the district a little insurance moving forward. Um, so I'm happy to open it up to questions. I think uh the big takeaway is that um you know we got really good feedback from our our partners who like I said are really excited about this project and they see quite frankly the desire to work with to work with our group elsewhere and I think this is a good starting point a good story for
them as well. So, >> first I want to say thank you >> for all of your hard work and effort. Already know how I'm voting, so I'm not worried about it. Um, but I do need to bring my We've got a camp schedule. >> No, I'm just I was just >> summer Kindle this year. I just wanted to double check. We have a full schedule already ready to rock and roll. >> Okay. I thought it was >> I want to thank y'all too going out of your way to help us out with that. That's a good deal. I'm not sure if y'all realize how that clocks around, but I do appreciate appreciate that. Thank y'all so much. >> So, you'll be able to get it done starting June 8th. >> It's going to be a
quick construction really quick. So, I mean, we were talking earlier today if we get approval tonight. You're buying materials tomorrow. >> So, it's going to be hot. >> I told him he proved it now. He did. He went out. >> He's excited. He's ready to see it. >> All weekend. >> IT'S YOUR JOB. UM, so we will have the 600,000. >> That's what Amy had reported. That's what she has said for the past couple months. And that's on top of the fund balance she had. >> Will that be at the end of June? Well, the books will close on the 30th of June when the final tally is done. Be August. >> Okay. >> But in the fund balance, it's already there. >> Okay. >> And when will we need to start paying out >>
be on deployment? So what is that for you? >> Where's Miss Andy? >> She's not here. So the issue is more waxing is complete. >> So y'all y'all will start construction June 8th. >> I think the question is is when when are you guys wanting us to start budgeting to pay you guys? >> I know we I know Miss Amy's got a requirement. She has to have a certain amount spent by this fiscal year. But 30% deployment. All we're doing tomorrow is we're notifying our partners, hey, you need to go this. Everybody's got a backlog. We can work out the details. So, what we need to do is so tonight you have the terms and conditions. We don't have the scope the exhibits in the back because we weren't sure which option was going to
be selected but the request is that you approve an option and then we solicit the scope of work to the administrative team that is then executed and also needs to be signed by chair. Okay. >> Which >> so since we're talking about money, just to be clear, they need to vote on the performance contract. Then they would need to do a vote on either option they wanted. It's not >> do they have to vote separately about spending the money about the abatement or is that rolled into >> it's it's not separate because I saw where we were going to have to pay for the abatement straight to but it's rolled up into these costs. Yes. So, there's a legal requirement. I think we may have mentioned this. There's a legal requirement where the district per
insurance laws needs to pay the contractor directly. That's not something that we can take care of, but it's all reflected in that. So, I'm not sure how your local policies work on how that money is distributed, but it's accounted for. Once I heard that it was a part of this and it's just us distributing the funds out. I thought it was maybe a separate vote that need but it's all uncovered. So again I think the motion and please guide me is the making a motion on the selection of which option. >> Yes. >> And then the subsequent approval of contract. >> Yes. >> Would you agree? >> Yes. Okay. I would I would >> um >> are we all in agreement on option? The tile. >> I say the tile. Yeah, >> let's make a
>> I'll make a motion >> move forward for high. >> All right. Motion made by John, >> second by me, >> second made by Vivian to approve the tile floor option >> and the performance contract >> with Mckin Street. >> Let's do roll call. Kane. Yes. >> Yes. >> Home. >> Yes. >> Jones. Neil. >> Yes. >> S. >> Yes. >> Worth. >> Yes. Uh Dylan, y'all, thank y'all for everything that y'all done and all of your hard work. We really appreciate it. >> Well, I'll make a motion through the contract. We have >> We did it. >> Okay. I thought you Okay. Y need to know what material is there to deal with. I really don't want >> Does anybody have a preference? >> I think that got some examples here. So, this is
the floor tile. Um, it's a little more durable. We do this in like a 12 by 24 or 12 by 12. Um, and then these ones would be for on the walls. Um, color sizes can change. The takeaway is this is the matte finish and then this is the glossy finish. So just a little more shine to it, but there's a bunch of different options available. >> Both of those both have a smooth finish on them as well. And because I asked them about which one's going to be better of cleaning, they both have the same um finish on them where they can be clean. Just one of them shinier than the other. I'm happy. >> Thank you. >> Next is the health and wellness textbook update. >> Or members, as you're aware, the state
of Tennessee requires that we do a textbook adoption every six years. This year is PE, the health and wellness textbook selection. And there's a process. The first part of the process has been included. Tara took your PE teachers got their input. This these links are including your packet at the front of the board updates. They were behind the Mckin Street proposal. This is the one that the PE teachers had selected. The next part of that Terra is going to gather input from parents. And the other part of that is I wanted to make sure you were aware I'm going to ask Dr. So Chris and Terrace post the information on our website and a place to collect any sort of input from the community. They can go to the links and they can provide feedback
about the selection. Once we have the teacher selection, the parent selection, the community feedback and we want to come back to you in June and give you the recommendation whichever textbook is selected. But those that was the one that the the teachers had selected and then of course there's the part about purchasing and at this point I don't know what that cost would be. I don't know if it's all online or it's textbooks actual books or not but so June will be the opportunity for us to actually come together for a vote. Just want to know wanted to let you know where we were in the process. So you have the links in the email should be able to get to that any questions about that process. All right, I'm good. >> Next is superintendence
report. >> Who wants to go first? Oh, Miss Bri. >> Good evening, everyone. We have successfully completed our second grade testing. Thank you to our building testing coordinator, Miss Pywell testing. We have also just finished up with a literacy IPG walk with our Northwest ELA consultant. We saw tremendous growth with our teachers and students from August to now. So, some great things are happening there. We celebrated our opening of our new STEM lab with the ribbon cutting ceremony. Um, we are currently doing an ABC countdown each day with a different letter and we're just hoping and encouraging strong attendance. With that, um, we have some end of year celebrations coming up this week. Our golden fork award for great cafeteria behavior and an overall growth in as well reward. very thankful with um Life Feed
and Miss Debbie Dial for a donation of items for those end of year rewards for our book fair. Um we had we made it to the level of being able to get half of the money spent. And so for our library with this glory forest over 200 $2,200 will receive for our library. >> Thank you. Uh thank you to the school board um Henley House and to our community partners for our donations and gifts for teacher appreciation week. It was so kind. A few more things. After all of our preschool registration days, we ended up with a number of 100 students registered for preschool and kindergarten. Um we also we started the beginning of the school year with UT dental with doing different things with um partnership with them and then we had a new
partnership with dental the dental sea program with Tennessee Department of Health. So 39 students received care and it she just finished up last week and it was so great because she's a young new dental hygiene is coming in and she works so well with the children with those 39 students. That value of work that she did was $5,500 and we're just so grateful for that. And recently, um, Miss Anna Lee Lynn and Miss Cory Forest worked on a grant and we were rewarded, we were awarded a $10,000 learning environment grant to help enhance students spaces. So, I'm just over. >> All right. Well, there we also wrapped up teaping. Um, and not a big enough thank you to Miss Chancy Cochran. She rocked it. And coach Gerald Prince was also there. He's still in the
day actually for me. I had to be somewhere. But um it was a welloiled machine. Every morning I'd take one end into the school and she'd take the other. Next thing you know, kids get kids are testing. We're getting text test done and we're just everywhere. But it was all her. I simply just pushed it. So congratulations to her. And also I want to recognize our students. We try to incentivize with some rewards for just for effort. We don't know what you score. I I tell the kid every day, I have no idea what you scored on that test. We don't grade it. The state does, but if you don't try, we won't know what you know. So, we have pink tickets every day where they get ticketed, they tried. All we did was walk
around, make sure they were not just looking a electronic. So, at the end of that, we had a teacup reward dance. We did that last Friday from 3rd through 5th and 6th through 8th. And it was awesome. The kids had a great time. So, we rewarded them also with uh popcorn day. We had popsicle day. We had a lot of fun stuff going on for those kids. And you can just again, all you have to do is try because we don't know what you know unless you try. So, that was a big success. I'll simply say a couple words. Cotton candy and snow cones goes a long way. I didn't realize that, but we have a cotton candy machine and I love cotton candy. So, I might use this summer. But we had a teacher
just covered in cotton candy. She made over 250 cotton candy things on the sticks. That was cool to see. And the kids just loved it. Um we celebrated our teachers last week. Welld deserved teacher Christian preacher teacher appreciation week. Um the board gave us some great snacks uh different drinks throughout the week. And on Friday uh Peyton Lebo and I I brought my grill from home. If you know Eric Allison, he and I put it in the back of the truck. terrible idea. Unloaded it about 10 o'clock at night and then the next afternoon we grilled burgers all day for the staff and them uh just as a thank you for all that they do and it was fun. I used to do that in Peru. We used to do every Friday so it's kind
it was fun for me to do um just to serve them for once. You know they do everything we ask them least I can do. We also complete our as web testing uh and we are really looking forward to getting that data back because we're going to use that to create our RTI groups. So when we start in August we have those. There's no waiting. we're going to hit hit the ground running. That's going to benefit our students because again, we want to see them grow and this gives them the best opportunity. So, for all the people that are working on that, I can't thank them enough because they did a lot of work. Uh we had a Falcon point store today where they can use those points they've been earning this this, you know,
semester and they went really well. I don't even know some of that stuff. Miss Tammy Jones did a great job getting it and it we had little wrestling figures and stuff. Kids were just I mean, I had a girl leave with a doll. She probably never had before, but she was the happiest kid I've ever seen. So, that's what it's all about. Um, and then last but not least, we do have our eighth grade promotion coming up. Save the date. Nine o'clock on Friday, May 22nd. You'll get an invitation from me probably next couple days. We'd love to see you there. We know you're busy, but if you get a chance to come, you're gonna see me cry, which you probably seen before. That's okay because I'm not afraid of crying public. I will tell
you what I think. It comes with my heart, but I would love to see you there. We would love to have you. >> At the high school, we also glad that EOCC testing is over. We thank Miss Nafy for really calming the ship. It was a a welloiled machine. The way they did it, the way she had presented, and the way it went well, it really just did wonders. Uh we had heard rumors that the state people were coming to the the school. So, I was running around like I had gambling kids. I was interrupting. They came to my school. >> They scared us. That was scary to just say, "Calm down. we're doing what we're supposed to do, so it's going to be just fine. Well, she said that we were we were glad
and luckily they didn't come our way. So, we also had hype and chill day today. It went fabulous. We took all of our young people to go watch the movies to go see the new Michael Jackson movie. If you haven't seen that movie is fantastic. It brings back memories and you know who Michael Jackson is. It is a wonderful, wonderful movie. I didn't think the kids knew who Michael Jackson was, but they've been moonwalking and dancing ever since they watched this movie. And after they left the movie, we took them to the park to where we enjoyed hot dogs. They went fishing. There was fishing lines everywhere. They were fishing, playing volleyball. They were having a great day. It was just fabulous. A huge congratulations goes out to Miss Michelle Johnson for spearheading that. And
I really appreciate her for doing that. The baseball and softball teams ended their season very successfully. When I say very successfully, you're dealing with a very young team with the baseball team. This is freshman and sophomores who are competing against seniors, lots of seniors, and they're still shaking their heads and scratching it wondering how in the world did they come this close of beating us. And I can give one answer. It's because they're from they're from Lake County and we're all Falcons and that's why you almost got beat. Next year, I guarantee it. I sense that we're going to state. We're coming near state because I'm very proud of both the the softball and the baseball team for doing an incredible job. This week is also senior week. So, this is to honor our seniors.
On tomorrow, we will have awards night at 6 o'clock in the gymnasium. Wednesday, we'll have our balorate at First Baptist Church at 6 o'clock pm. On Friday, we will have our graduation at 7 o'clock p.m. Uh we also um that's that's all that I have that is that is it. We're just getting ready to go and getting ready to wrap up everything for the end of the school. Thank you. >> I tell you a come on back talking about how much I enjoy going back. All right. Next is >> any other business. >> All right.
