Thank you so much. >> Good evening. I hope you guys are enjoying the warmer weather since our snow at Meageddon. Um, but since then, we celebrated Black History Month also with special announcements and trivia on Thursdays and lots of interesting history and pictures displayed throughout our school. We

Um but as always, the reason we are here is to honor our um employee and students of the month um in January. Uh the character trait was self-control and our employee of the month practices lots of self-control when she's pulled everywhere to cover classes and whatever needed um she does with a happy heart and that is Miss Patrice Robinson. And now for our students um in our FS classrooms, Christopher Villa Cruz. and Emerson Brown in kindergarten. Elias Landry and Laura Roland. in first grade. Feels like a long time since I've been here to share some of the excellent things that are going on in MIS over the past couple months. I'd like to share some highlights from February before I move on to what's current here in March. So, February kicked off with our school's recognition of Black History Month. Throughout the month, students were informed of the history behind this celebration, notable figures that helped create and maintain the event over the years, and current black Americans
that are great role models for our students due to their hard work, determination, and perseverance. Our third house night took place on Thursday, February 19th, and it was sponsored by the house of Isabendi. This night of courage was created to spotlight not only uh not only the milestones of of courage for Black History Month, but also local first responders as we had the N Fire Department and the Shelby County Mobile Command Center there. They were present for our students and families to interact with. Several MIS course members were chosen for the annual festival course sponsored by the West Tennessee General Music Education Association. Those students loaded up from school on Friday, February 20th, and spent the day practicing with other students from West Tennessee and at Millington First Baptist Church. And then that culminated in
a fantastic performance that evening. We also had visits in February from personnel affiliated with the state's special education department. They performed multiple walkthroughs of special education teachers and were very complimentary of that department in our building. And then finally, our robotics club earned an award from the Tennessee Valley Authority as well as grant money to enhance their program. February was busy and there were lots of great things going on at MIS. March brings some benchmark testing with it. Next week, our students will take their third and final case test to help us analyze what standards the students have mastered and what standards still need more remediation. Teachers will evaluate that data on March 23rd during our professional development day to prepare instruction for the next month before TECAP begins. After spring break, the intellectually gifted
program Apex is going to take their annual field trip to Biz Town where students will have an interactive and fun-filled day enhancing skills related to entrepreneurship, work readiness, and financial literacy. And finally, I'd like to recognize some tremendous students and employees for their outstanding performances in January and February. Students, when you hear your name, please come down to accept your certificate from Mr. Griffin. And parents, you're welcome to take a pick. So, let's start with January. In January, our juniors and seniors attended a career fair in the back gym. Several local and national companies were present to give our students some information about various careers. In January, we celebrated those 7th through 12th grade classes with the highest score on the December case benchmark with a pizza lunch. Uh this incentive helped ensure that students try their best on the benchmark. In January, uh we also celebrated Winterfest in January and what a winter it was. Uh we had dress up days and Hope Web was crowned our princess and Emma Washington was crowned uh Winterfest Queen at the basketball game. Our Winterfest dance was
rescheduled twice due to the uh snow and ice and we will actually have it this Saturday at Kurville. We'll rename it the uh the Springfest, I guess, dance. So we'll have that this weekend. In February, we also held our 2026 Oscar night right here in the pack. We celebrated our winners and we cheered on our talented performers. In February, we celebrated Black History Month with daily trivia and history facts, dress up days, and we held an educational and entertaining assembly in the gym last Friday highlighting the Trojan choir and step team. And I would like to say thank you to Miss Marissa for uh being a part of that committee and helping organizing that and doing a lot of the behind the scenes things that people don't see, but she she made it happen. So,
thank you, Marissa. Our NJ ROC cadets were very busy in January and February. Our color guard attended several community events uh posting the colors. The NJOTC color guard unarmed drill and armed drill teams competed in the Middle Tennessee Regional Drill Competition. Out of 180 participants, Kaden Kaden uh Cadet Bentley Dearund placed first and Cadet Kaden Bates placed second in the individual drill category. In February, we held our annual uh NJOTC annual military inspection or AMI in the in the gymnasium. Our cadetses did an outstanding job and were recognized by our new area commander. In January and February, the Millington Central Trojan Band had several students selected to participate at the University of Memphis Honor Band. Those students are Carlos Rodriguez, Kylie Johnson, Ryder Roas, Amy Curillo Reyes, Steven Galindo, Evan Barrett, and Elizabeth Howard. In
January, in February, we had several Trojan band members to participate in All West and I would like to recognize those students. Andrew Dupri, Steven Gindo, Elizabeth Howard, Kyler Johnson, Evan Barrett, Jordan Binkley, and Evelyn Forbes. Trojan winter sports have almost wrapped up. Our Lady Trojans are competing tonight in the regional semifinals at Bolton. Uh they're taking on Cington. Uh the middle school boys basketball team finished district runner-ups. The Trojan wrestling program capped off a very successful January and February by becoming three peak district and regional dual champions. Sectional match and represented Millington well at the state championship in Franklin. And if you know anything about wrestling, there's duels and then you move over to the individuals. So, uh, we, uh, set a school record and sent 13 Trojans to the individual's wrestling state tournament held
recently in Franklin. And two Trojans walked away with medals. Eli Whitby and Derek Balden took fourth play, both took fourth place uh, in the state in their weight classes. We're now moving into spring sports. So get ready for middle school and high school golf, middle school and high school tennis, high school girls flag football, middle school and high school track and field, middle school and high school boys soccer, middle school and high school baseball, middle school and high school softball. So there's something for everyone. Uh we have nine uh home events uh just this week uh on our campus. So uh come out and support the Trojans if you can. Now I would like to recognize outstanding individuals for Millington Central. January's theme for nominating students, teachers, and staff of the month uh were friendliness.
So these students and uh staff members make Millington Central a better place. When I call your name, please come forward unless you're at one of those sporting events. Uh middle school student of the month for January is Miss Leila Deon. High School student of the month, Mr. Elijah Tubbs. Our educators for the month of January in middle school, Mr. Dennis Campbell, seventh grade math. in high school. Miss Vicky Wilhight, 11th grade. We like to call her Miss Also, the friendliest person in the cafeteria, Miss Valerie Griffin. And now I would like to recognize some uh the February's uh students and teachers of the month. The theme for February for nominating teachers and students was creativity. When I call your name, please come forward. Our middle school student of the month for January, Miss Kirsten Burnham.

go. Once again, just want to say thank you to the students. This is what it's all about. Thank you for being patient and you can learn a whole lot from our students. You can't laugh like this young man today. You really need to hang out with more. Thank you so much. Once again, I like to thank the recruiters for staying. Thank you so much. Uh, real quick, the new employees uh, that started this semester. Mr. Kate Brock, new welding teacher at Middle High School. A part-time nutrition and entering the school is Belvita Nelson. And part-time custodian at uh middle high school is Lexit Naro. Once again, just want to remind all the uh everyone that we did get approved from the Department of Education on our mid snow day. So, our waiver was approved. I
will be in Nashville over the next three weeks because of legislation. I'll be leaving tonight after the meeting uh to be meeting with our state representatives uh in the morning at 9:30. But also, please check all your websites because as Mr. Perry said, they had nine home events and there's over 60 just home events this this semester. So, it's it's fast and furious. Uh, but everybody's going the right direction. And I just want to recognize Miss Marissa Briggs right here. This young lady is just amazing. The things she did for the Black History Month and how she just went about her ways to get everything ready for us. I just she amazes me and I just keep challenging her. And like I said, if there's anything that you want to bet on a horse, this
is the one right here because she's going to be great one day. I can promise you that. So that's my little boy. >> Any questions for Mr. Griffin. Congratulations. All right, then we will move on to item number eight, which is public comments. Um, didn't receive anything. All right, thank you, Mr. Speaker. I'll entertain a motion to close. >> Motion by Mr. Childress. >> Second by Miss Gray. All in favor? Any opposed? >> All right, eyes have it. Item number nine is recommended approval of FY26 budget amendment five nutrition fund. Entertain a motion. >> Second. >> Motion by Dr. >> Second by Mr. Densson, Mr. Kirby. >> Good evening board. So this is tied to what Vicki um presented at the work session kitchen equipment at the new intermediate school and it's using nutrition fund
balance in the amount of $350,000 to purchase the >> Any questions for Mr. Curry? Just for the record, this is all for the uh the new kitchen that we're building over the correct >> I don't remember if we talked about what was going to happen with the equipment that's already there. Is any of it useful or is it just one end of life? the useful have been here since Millington South. So those are going the things that are good are going to be moved. We're not buying 100% of the equipment like we had two new ovens not long ago. So those are being moved. The dishwasher we bought maybe four years ago. We're going to take that apart and store it. We might use that hang. >> Okay. Thanks. >> Any other questions? >> All
right. Thank you. Roll call, please. Barbara Halberg. >> I. >> Amanda Compton. >> Hi. >> Chris Densson. >> Hi. >> Teresa Cook. >> Hi. >> Debbie Clifton. >> Hi. >> Barbara Gray. Cody. >> All right, that motion is approved. Item number 10 is recommended approval to contract with Southern Educational Strategies LLC to develop a strategic plan for the district for a cost not to exceed $123,000. Funding has been identified in the FY26 general fund budget. >> So move second. >> Motion by Mr. second by Dr. Compton. All right, Mr. Griffin, if you could give an overview on this one, please. >> Uh, yes, ma'am. Uh, this is, uh, getting a service to help us with our new strategic 5-year plan. As we found out last week, uh, we are we will be getting Lucy Elementary
a year early, which will give us time to get our uh, district set again. There will be surveys that will be going out after um uh after spring break and we are forming a committee which I've already contacted uh 10 of the 13 members. So I've just got to get a couple more to volunteer for that. I appreciate all the parents that have got involved that stakeholders. We have representation from the Navy. We have represent representation uh from uh the board of uh alderman. We also have a citizen that is not or has no children in the in the school system. So, we're trying to get a little bit of everybody so we can get everybody's uh thoughts and uh opinions on moving forward with Lucy Elementary, Milton Primary, the intermediate, middle school, and high
school. So, uh that will be going on and those meetings will start in April. But that survey will go out for two weeks after after uh spring break and get the results of that move forward. >> Mr. Griffin, could you speak to the demographic survey that's a component of this? I think that's very very valuable and I'd like the stakeholders to hear about that. >> Yes, ma'am. One of the important parts about uh what Southern Educational Strate uh strategies LLC will bring to the table is that they have one of the best companies to to look at the demographics of the city and see growth patterns. It's something that we don't have the ability to do in our central office, but we can look at uh the best way to fill our new schools once
we have them in 26 uh 2728. So that's going to be very very important. So >> I have one question. >> Yes, ma'am. >> For the committee, in order to stay on the timeline that we talked about when they presented um everything to us, will we need to consider having um a special to approve that committee so that that work can would not be delayed beyond that. >> I mean that's something that if the board chooses we can do that but we don't have to uh looking at >> the committee won't be doing any work. No, they won't be doing any work until we get the survey back. And then that's what really we're going to look at that information. Plus, uh, while that is going on, of course, uh, SES will be getting our
demographics and our growth charts and our SWAT charts, so forth and so on, so we can make the best decision for our new schools moving forward for MMSD. >> Okay, great. And for the record, the S Southern Educational Strategy LLC consultants were very instrumental back in 2013 uh of helping form this school system. Matter of fact, they were involved uh before we even had elections and they worked with us closely through the first 12 months and uh they're they're really made up of some uh very uh What's the word I looking for? Individuals that know what they're talking about. You know, they they're top of their game. So, I think it's good. >> I agree. Any other questions or comments? All right. Roll call, please. Amanda Compton. Hi, >> Chris Denson. >> Hi. >> Teresa
Cook. >> Hi. >> Debbie Clifton. I >> Barbara Gray. I >> Cody Chilris >> I >> Farmer Halper I. >> All right, that item is approved. Um item number 11 is recommended approval to contract with Faucet Paving Company LLC to complete asphalt projects at Millington Primary School and Millington Central Middle High School for an approximate cost of $315,570. funding has been identified in FY26 capital budget. >> I entertain a motion. >> So move. >> Motion by Mr. Childress. >> Second by Miss Gray and Mr. Leblanc's not here. Can you talk? >> Yeah, Mr. Lanc is recovering from shoulder surgery. So I'm sure and today was his first uh day of rehab, so I'm sure he's not in a very good feeling right now. However, uh first and foremost want to thank the city for the
$250,000 additional funds they gave us for this project to take care of. Uh this will take care of much needed uh paving at uh the primary school and also with the additional $250,000 we were able to also get this company to come in and do the middle high school as we talked about in the work session. So, this is a a project that with paving, as you know, it's get them while you can, and we were very fortunate to get them early so we can get these two much needed u uh projects done as quickly as possible for the safety of everyone. >> And Mr. Wong did a really good job of negotiating a very good price for us on this. >> And what are they what are we looking to have? >> Uh they're
looking to try to get the primary done at u spring break or they're trying to get it. We won't know for sure, but they're working on that as we speak this week, trying to get it aligned up. So, hopefully we'll have the primary done by spring break and then as soon as they can uh as far as the middle high school, >> just one uh question, if you um know that the details of the layout for where the paving is going to be at the primary school, it's not the road that enters in. It's the parking area. >> No, ma'am. It's the parking area. It's not the actual road, but uh we do know that we'll be working hand in hand with the city on that and Shelby County because that uh falls into a
gray area and we're working on that. Mr. Blond is trying to uh finagle that as well, but we know that we will getting the parking lot uh completely done at the primary >> and at the middle high school. It's the parking lot next to the gymnasium. >> Yes, ma'am. Correct. >> Is there an additional space? Uh, and also going to get a little a little bit of the parking area on our central office possibly. There's a couple spots that really need to be taken care of, so they're going to look at that as well. >> All right, perfect. Any other questions? All right, thank you. Roll call, please. Chris Dson, >> hi. >> Teresa Cook, >> hi. >> Debbie Clifton, >> hi. >> Barbara Murray, >> hi. >> Cody Childris, >> hi >> Barbara Hallebert.
>> Hi, >> Amanda Compton. I >> All right, that motion carries. Item number 12 is recommended approval to contract with Singer Equipment H and R to provide kitchen equipment and installation for the middle Millington Middle School project for a cost of $348,485. Funding has been identified in the FY26 nutrition budget. >> Motion by Miss Gray. >> Second by Dr. All right, questions. So, we had three vendors bid on it and H&R Singer, >> can you speak up a little bit? >> We had three vendors bid on it and H&R Singer, which we've done multiple deals with on the bid. We're going to go with them. We're going to get a PO because a lot of this stuff has to be fabricated. So, that's why we're in a rush to kind of get going and get
stuff ordered. So all of the equipment that we just talked about the budget amendment for is being purchased from them as well. >> So not all So we're not buying everything new. So we're going to have four ovens. Two of them are existing. We're they're going to move those. >> So they're moving the things that need to be moved in. >> We have like tilt skillets going to be moved. Dishwasher is new. The big expense in that is going to be a walk-in freezer and a walk-in cooler, which we don't have. Well, we have a freezer over there. Uh that's a big expense. The venoods are very expensive. We're getting coms which are very expensive. So that's the bulk of the expense of it. >> And a lot of things that we keep we're going
to keep, you know, to the side in case we need them for Lucy or in the past we put them in there like a refrigerator or something else like that. We didn't need it. So the football field got it or the culinary class got it. >> Do we have a good place to store those things that you're wanting to keep to the side? If it'll fit to that door room, that store room that we have behind the central office, we put it in there. >> We'll make them fit. >> Yes, ma'am. >> All right. Any other questions for Miss V10? >> All right. Thank you, M. Roll call, please. Teresa Cook. >> Hi. >> Debbie Clipton. I >> Barbara Gray. >> Hi. >> Cody Childress. >> Hi. >> Barbara Hallebertton. >> I Amanda Compton. >>
Hi. I >> All right, that motion carries. Item number 13 is recommended approval to accept the donation of a Ford F250 truck from the city of Millington. >> So move. >> All right. Motion by Mr. Children. I'll second. >> Second. >> Um Mr. Griffin. >> Yes, ma'am. And once again, uh for Mr. uh this is a um used F uh 250 heavy duty truck that as you know with a lot of hard work and um a lot of support from not just our our city but also our county commissioner Mr. Hamburg Mills. Uh this we use to pull around our tractor uh because it is becoming mowing season, but also our twoman lift. Uh if you ever try to move um copy paper and trust me, the elementary primary really love their copy paper. Uh
we have to get that down to their school. Uh this will be a lot easier on the truck. It won't wear out our regular F150 trucks. Uh this is a gift. Uh we will have to make some improvements on the engine, but it's still a lot cheaper than buying a brand new and will meet the needs uh for our district, not just now, but for many years to come. >> Yep. And definitely um want to express appreciation to the city again for that donation and support. Any other questions or comments? Roll call, please. Debbie Clifton, >> I. >> Barbara Curry, >> hi. >> Cody Chilris, >> hi. >> Barbara Hallebertton, >> I Amanda Compton. Hi, >> Chris Stson. >> Hi, >> Teresa Cook. >> Hi. >> All right, that motion carries. Item number 14 is
recommended approval to contract with UDT to be the internet service provider for MMSD for the 2026 27 school year. This would be a cost of $254,000 a year with rate reducing that cost by 90% to $25,800. funding has been identified in the FY27 general fund budget. So move. >> All right. Motion by Mr. Childress, >> second by Mr. Dson. Mr. Lancaster, >> this is a motion brought to you to move from our current company to UDT. This uh change over will give us resiliency in our network as we don't have right now. If the ISP goes down, we go down. This fun will allow us to stay resilient in our network infrastructure. >> Any questions for Mr. Lancaster? >> All right. Thank you, sir. >> Thank you. Roll call, please. Barbara, >> I >> Cody

Item number 15 is recommended approval to release senior Chromebooks out of school inventory and discard these devices to the graduating class of 2026. >> So moved. >> Motion by Dr. Compton. >> Second by Mr. Dson. Yeah, this is a program that uh y'all allowed us to do last year where we take the old Chromebooks that have lost their warranties and we give them to the graduating seniors as a discard program. Allows them to take uh something home with them that they can have technology in their hands going forward and be able to use it. >> Any questions, comments? Just a question was asked of
my senior and you answered this in the work session. All of the limitations and restrictions that are on them will be removed. >> Correct. >> It'll be like a brand new device. >> Good question. >> It's a factory default settings. I guess >> they stop they can stop complaining about us blocking websites. >> Could we take them to a >> hot shop and get money for them ourselves? as soon as soon as I give them to you. I'm turn blind eye. >> Right. Right. No, we didn't see that. We didn't hear that either. All right. No other questions. All right. 039right, that motion carries. Um, item number 16. >> Madam Chair, real quick before we uh move to German, I just want to thank the Millington Industrial Development Board. This past week they passed I miss cook always being there but they uh they passed the selling of 40 acres of land to TCAD which is going to be huge for us because uh one of the things that the new TCAD is bringing in will be uh a commercial drone which we have already through the hard work of Miss uh Jinger Lock we have our program up and going. Uh so very excited about that. I want to thank the mayor. I want to thank uh Mike Gil also for speaking there and more importantly the industrial board for taking the the step forward to sell that land
to them so that we can get another opportunity not just for our students but our stakeholders and citizens of Milton with the new building coming. Uh we have a great relationship with TCAP the new president president Sullivan uh until that uh that building gets built which as soon as they sign the papers they're going to start moving ground. Uh we will open our classrooms up at night if we have to to keep get them going. So, it's just a great opportunity and once again it's just one mil working together for the betterment of all of us. I want to thank the IDB board for that again. >> That's that's going to be big. That's great. Where's the the location of the land? I didn't see >> it'll be on Veterans Parkway and uh just to
let you know, Mr. White Gill did a did a lot of work. This is something we've been working on for the last couple of years uh because there's a lot of restrictions with, you know, being around the airport, but they worked those out and to help them. And at first they wanted 20 and then they wanted 40. So, they're actually building a bigger building than they they thought because they're looking to close down one of the TCATs in uh in Memphis. So, will be a very hot spot for a lot of people, not just in Mill to come and get these same things. So, very excited about it. >> Nice. That's great. All right. If nothing else, I will entertain a motion to move. >> Second. >> Motion by Dr. Compton and second by Miss
Pimpton. All in favor? >> Any opposed? All right, eyes have it. Thanks everybody. Good night.
