I get to see that about once a week after this job in the world okay I just want to say how many times have you all heard me say oh no I can't hardly hear yourself in just a second Mr Marshall [Music] I don't know if I'm on a bad network but I can't get my package to open if you can tell them what's your point rules anyway okay yes please do I just I just wanted to say how many times have you all heard me say if there are times that are tough on the school board and you know we do have some of those times where do I like to go it's to Bransford and that that makes me know why I do what I do and it makes it worth it and

there's there's nothing any prettier than listening to their voices just play sing a song all of it brings it back thank you Mr Marshall okay can we uh have our mission and vision statement please good evening students and their achievement must be the focus of our ever meeting however's plan or every decision the mission of vision statements of the Robertson County School System are the expressions of what we believe and what we expect and if you look over to your left Iraq you'll see that our mission is to ensure each student is prepared to succeed in life and one of the first things of course you learn to be successful is the Pledge of Allegiance and like I said that's a great to start this evening and our vision is that Robertson County Schools will

enable all students to reach and exceed High academic and career standards but while empowering them also to succeed in a technologically advanced and culturally diverse Society thank you very much sir board members you have your consent agenda and and the agenda for tonight in front of you uh it's my understanding we are to pull 7B from this do I have a someone would like to make a motion to approve our consent agenda I have motion by Mr Scott and I have a second here by Mr Ayers Mr Scott Rice on the motion is there any other questions about the agenda hearing none all those in favor please say aye aye anyone opposed and that unanimous 6-0 and uh moving on to staff reports and recommendations uh chairman white board members I will tell you one

of the things that for those of you all out in the audience when you're looking at the consent agenda uh the salvage surplus list which is 2K early graduate laptops we have quite a few students that will be graduating from Robertson County schools in January and when they graduate they get to keep the very same laptop that we gave them their freshman year for and they can use it go to college they can use it to start business they can use it for whatever they want but that idea was pretty much the the brainchild of this gentleman that we're about to recognize a long time ago seems like it's been a long time ago and I really thought uh this gentleman was going to be the cutest part of the night but I think you

were outdone by Bransford sir I'm sorry um tonight we had the opportunity to recognize publicly in this meeting what what others have seen on social media in the last couple weeks but just like his family did not have the opportunity to be there when he was recognized because he was at a fancy conference and and we were all of us kind of stayed home I guess I hope you all understand that uh Mr James Marshall if I if he doesn't mind coming to the uh up to the front Mr James Marshall of course has been supervisor of technology for I didn't want to say it out loud and a long time long time um folks he he was recognized uh Statewide the Dr Howard Cisco outstanding CTO award and and that is given to one

person guys that that's that's the special uh type of man that we're talking about here and of course Mr Marshall was one of the first conversations that I had when I did my student teaching back in 1995 and I always tell people the first conversation we ever had was an argument about which were better PCS or Max and uh we still laugh about that uh 27 years later but this award that he received says Tennessee educational technology Association recognizes James Marshall of Robertson County schools with the Dr Howard Cisco outstanding CTO award for outstanding Innovation and Technology 2022. um I'm going to tell you it wasn't uh it was quite a while ago actually that uh we we had a discussion uh about technology in Robertson County and I'm going to tell you right now

as we sit here uh at the end of 2022 almost 2023 Robertson County uh is doing things with technology that other districts can only dream of and it's because of this one man right here and the department that he's created so congratulations James thank you [Music] and because I know you like to talk I wanted to give you thought well I want to say something you know you do a lot for the school District but let me tell you you do a lot for this community um I remember years ago the many things that you do and I just want you to know that above and beyond the school system this community thanks you because you have spent a lot of your personal time auctions I can't tell you how many events I've seen you

at and outside of this the community also thinks you I'm sure let me how many of y'all have been to Stokes Brown Public Library you're there a lot right you ever gone upstairs and seen the computer lab that man made it happen that's what Mr ice is talking about it's just not a school system he is definitely part of the community and I'm very proud to also call you friend so his favorite five words please don't cut my budget now you may talk okay thank you all so much this means a lot it meant a lot to get this from TTA but it means a lot to hear from all of you and they have my family here tonight um when I asked if I got to make a speech at the TTA Awards they

told me no this was an hour show and are you kidding so I didn't get to say some things but the Tennessee educational technology Association is uh the one who awarded this I've been a charter member of that group I helped start that group many years ago and they have been an invaluable resource to me Dr Causey has continued to support my involvement with that group and partially because he came to a conference and saw what we did and he realized how important he was to be with others that do the same thing you do in other districts so I knew Dr Howard Cisco he was a member of Teta a fine man and the awards giving him his honor it comes with and it all expense paid trip to the coast of the National

Conference in Austin Texas provided Dr Causey allows me to go we'll be heading out there in the spring in March and so I'm just highly honored and and I appreciate this time with all of you and I can't think I would not have this if it weren't for the support of this board and previous boards and and previous directors of schools I've heard from both Mr Whitlow and Mr Davis today so I think it was released to Facebook today thank you for doing that Dr Causey and both of them have caught along with former board a member um um well Stoney or Alan no um she's going to kill me because she is watching us Wendy bargason talk about those blank moments earlier yeah yeah they get worse uh Miss Wendy was a school teacher

when I started and she and I became friends and I've made many many relationships over the years working one-on-one with the teachers I miss getting to do that I still try to get out and do that a little bit but I thank you all for your support and everything you all have done we are now as Dr Causey said we are revered among other districts for advice on things to do and how did we do it and and gosh that's that's a big turnaround since when I started so thank you again thank you all very much sir thank you [Applause] [Music] [Applause] thank you one more [Applause] you have any other recognition all right foreign let's move on to section four Personnel reports chairman white ladies and gentlemen the board I present to you the

certified Personnel report we have slowed down a little bit uh we do have a total of 24 Personnel actions on the certified side they want to bring your attention to the three retirements I always think that's important Sheila Boyd out of coopertown metal of course Vicki Clark Greenbrier middle and uh coach Holman Over Springfield middle and of course those folks have been with us for uh for quite a number of years and and we will definitely miss them we also had eight resignations five leaves of absences and we did have eight new hires so we are still hiring teachers and interim teachers on the classified side on the second page of total of 46 actions uh once again if you do look at those three retirements Mr Daniel Shepherd one of our mechanics Transportation Miss

Alice Keith one of our bus drivers Mr Tommy Davenport who you don't spend any time in Cross Plains or Orlando without knowing Mr Thomas he's also a stable every single East Robertson ball game I think that that's ever existed so we will miss them as well and that includes eight resignations ten Trends first 14 new hires three volunteer coaches and uh four uh folks that are working for our cleaning services AGS and that concludes that report okay anybody have any questions hearing none let's move on to expense comparison report Now ladies and gentlemen I do bring to you the expense comparison report if you look at revenues are definitely up by well over two million dollars expenditures are definitely up we've uh we expect quite a bit of money because we've got a lot of

vegetable money in and budget amendments that we've done so that's a little bit on the high side but we should be about a third of the way through the budget anyway uh looks like sales tax still coming in uh very good we're about about 400 000 over uh where we were this time last year and when I say this time we're talking about the end of October which this report is for and then you will notice under expenditures fuels still looking really good percentage-wise electricity is is pretty high right now and of course as Sheila and I meet every month and we'll do an amendment if we need to do it when it comes down to it but that is the estimated summary record expenditures through October 31. any questions board members hearing none let's

move on to approval of Carl Perkins Federal revenues the 2223 budget amendment ladies and gentlemen this is the budget amendment for our CTE folks and Mr Gregory is here if he has any questions but it's a relatively uh small amendment to his budget where he increased his professional development if you look at that by 4 500 of course decreased it out of instructional supplies and I recommend approval you've heard the recommendation of the director do I have a motion motion to approve motion to approve but Miss Hogan is there a second second and that is that Mr White alrighty is there any question anyone have any question on their members Aaron none everyone in favor please say aye aye aye anyone opposed and that past 6-0 okay moving on to Administration approval of school board

policies first reading good evening chairman y board members and Dr Kelsey thought policies are being brought to you tonight for your consideration language in these policies has been revised to reflect updated practices as well as aligned to tsba's model policies including language required by legislative action the first policy is number 4.605 graduation requirements this policy revision provides the director of schools the discretion to modify graduation credits under the guidance of state and local local requirements and you'll see that recommended revision on page three of that policy are there any questions the second policy 4.700 testing programs in their October meeting the State Board of Education made changes to their regulation on non-public schools this updated regulation now mandates that boards include policy language if they require students transferring from these schools to take an exam

for credit or grade placement on page three of that policy you you will see an added section that will align this policy to state law any questions foreign the third policy 6.204 attendance of non-resident students in the past state law permitted districts to decide whether or not to charge tuition for a child of a teacher who lived out of the district but wanted to enroll his or her child in the district in which he or she was employed now public chapters 709 expands that discretion to include all employees upon your approval if you would look at that policy number seven we'll need we'll require a change from what you see the words a teacher will be changed to an employee I did not catch that until this afternoon so I wanted to point that out

to you that would be changed upon your approval are there any questions the fourth policy 6.318 admission of suspended or expelled students previously state law required that the commissioner of Education be notified if a district denied enrollment to a student who had been suspended or expelled from another school district public chapters 686 removes that notification requirement any questions the last policy 6.409 reporting child abuse in an alleged instance of child abuse the recommended change to this policy is directed in public chapter 781 allows for the department of children's services and law enforcement to be notified ahead of notification to the district's child abuse coordinator are there any questions thank you is there any any questions board members hearing nuns I have a motion to approve all of these uh different changes as read so move

and by Mr Ayers is there a second second by Miss White is there any question we don't need to do anything to add to 6.204 line seven dude that just noted that as presented as presented is that good with you yes okay any other questions thank you Mr Ross any other questions Karen none all those in favor please say aye aye aye anyone opposed in that passage so moving on to approval of 2024-25 school calendar um chairman white I did real quick I wanted to let everyone know that the policy that you just mentioned uh where we waived the tuition uh is something that we've always done we just have board policy now to match it so okay we've always allowed employees to do that moving forward uh with 6B of the 2425 school calendar

I do invite Mr Lewis Wong to talk you through this one of course we've already approved next year's calendar so this would be the year after next year that's correct this is a draft for 2024-25 it's hard to believe we looked that far ahead we're already planning for this fall of 23 to what classes folks are going to be taking so we it seems like it just continues to roll as you look at the calendar in front of you I just remind you a couple of things as far as the development of a calendar that always seems to be something that we have a lot of questions about so I do want to make sure you're aware of how we come up with this one page and where it comes through of course we look

at the calendar requirements as published by Tennessee code annotated and tdoe we look at of all things the election calendar for that particular time period which impacts this particular calendar quite specifically we look at our professional development plan we try to balance the quarters so that each quarter has approximately the same amount of days there's it's almost impossible to make it balanced exactly but we really do make a name for that it makes those folks particularly our high school folks teaching those quarter classes it's really tough when we all of a sudden take a week away from them or add an extra week so then we'll we'll include feedback on our existing calendar so every year we survey because of current folks just to say are you satisfied with it do you want to see

changes what kind of changes would you like to see we did that again this year and saw very favorable responses uh 70s I apologize I had that 74 of our folks were either somewhat or very satisfied 70 of our folks felt like a current calendar was the current breaks and holidays were right and then we kind of break out a little differently about 37 percent on the amount of planning and PLC time 35 neutral and about 27 percent disagreed with the amount available we have lots of suggestions every year when we go through those and incorporate what we can and then the ones that we can't we try to at least explain why so I'll provide that calendar that you have in front of you just as a very loose understanding we are required to

put in 180 instructional days we really try to balance that between the fall semester and the spring semester when Christmas Falls is probably the first determinant of where we start the calendar and so we look at where the 25th of December falls back up 90 days from the last school day prior to that 25th is really the way that works and then every day you take off in that fall semester you back up another day and that's really very Loosely the way that works and then we give 10 days after Christmas because that's required by state law and then move on into the calendar and when we run out of 90 days that's when we get out so that's essentially the way uh that's an oversimplification but I want you to understand where that comes

from so this particular year 24 25 we are proposing to start school with the teachers returning on August the 5th for an administrative day students would return the following day for a half day on the sixth the typical holidays I will note that fall break is a little earlier than usual but that again goes to that balance of the quarters uh fall break would be October the 7th through the 14th which is a week plus a day that's because of existing policy we're going to be regarding Columbus Day we do have an election day in 2024 in November and then the traditional days at Thanksgiving and does get us out for the fall semester on December the 20th with a half day there returning with the teachers on January the 6th students would return on

the 7th for a full day continuing on spring break would be March 17-21 uh we do get a break in the uh that what we call the long stretch from May from March from spring break to the end there's always a question of when Easter falls and and how how that breaks up that last quarter for us this particular year works out great it's right in the middle so we do get a little bit of a break that would fall actually right before our testing days and then we would conclude school with a third day with a half day on May the 23rd now submit that for your approval if you have any questions I'll be happy to answer them more damage do you have a motion on this and we do can we have

some discussions ahead of time we can if you want to so you ran through it pretty quick but fall break yes sir what's the reason not to move the week of the 14th so when we put that week in the 14th that we originally started there it puts essentially too many days in quarter one for those folks that again we're trying to balance quarter one with Quarter Two Quarter Two already has some days taken out of it because of the election so we're just trying to keep a balance between quarter one and Quarter Two you see what we have here is quarter one would give you 42 days uh Quarter Two is 45 but with the breaks in between sometimes those extra days are really helpful to the teachers as they're trying to catch up

from having the breaks if you do that the other way around you'd have 47 days and then 41. for Quarter Two I just don't remember having six days off of all break we typically would not the the sixth day is because Columbus Day is already part of board policies uh I'm trying to balance which policy to follow there so uh are we required to be off on Columbus Day no other than by your policies no sir just seems unusual that's why I was just that it is I acknowledge yes it is unusual that's why I wanted to point it out to you it is a little strange because we traditionally have always had fall break that Columbus Day week and we can can do that if that's what this board chooses to do is there

any so table it for more discussion of evaluation sure any harm in that no sir we just need this pass by when two thousand August the 5th 2024. would you just like to hold off on this we don't have a motion on the floor so you don't have to table please have no we have no action on this motion this time when we bring it back up next month is it good just like the I mean community and parents and I mean I know kids will like it but six days off I'm just see if it's more beneficial moved in that Columbus Day week I guess it's traditionally been yes I don't know I mean I think it'd just be time to evaluate now that people have heard sure what the plan is I have

no problem at all that okay we will move on uh approval of special question committee report that's that's awesome items right actually put this back on I was with you in November when we appointed a special question committee uh based on the petitions that had been received from the Robertson County Education Association requesting the district to participate in collaborative conferencing we did hold that election with those folks and you have a copy of that final report there there were 498 ballots cast in the election that is 56 percent of our eligible classroom teachers 483 of those did vote to participate in collaborative conferencing 15 did not so in 97 to 3 percent decision there once they decide to participate in collaborative conferencing they then ask who should represent the teachers who voted yes 444 of

them voted for Robertson County Education Association 22 for the professional educators of America 14 Christian Educators Association International 15 unaffiliated and three none of the above that does the threshold for participation in the committee is a 15 threshold set by State Statute so in order to get kind of a spot on the committee that requires 15 or more votes cast in this particular case Robertson County Association would fill all of the seven seats and I just think we need to give you that report and ask for your approvement do I have a motion to approve you're about to approve the collaborative conference yes team not the report itself right that's all correct do we need a motion to approve Mr Hogan is that what you wanted oh why are you asking me no I'm just

asking you had this look on your phone no you're good I know what he said we're he's got us uh and that is my question do we need to approve this committee yes okay that's not that's I guess I do need you as a board to approve the report and then we can approve the team well that's what he said we needed to do I'd make a motion we approve the special questions report motion by Miss Hogan to approve the report so they're one line apart and we have a second by Mr rice is any questions all those in favor say aye aye anyone opposed past 6-0 do we have approval of collaborative conferencing teams do we have a motion for that and moved by Mr White and was in a second thank you Miss

Hogan I appreciate it is there any question on the team all those in favor say aye aye anyone opposed okay thank you ladies and gentlemen thank you Mr wall now we have the reconsideration of Greenbrier Middle School library book ladies and gentlemen you have your packet and a pill from a parent regarding a library book that we have at Greenbrier Middle School entitled Laura D keeps breaking up with me you have the committee's decision which was to place that book in the uh what they call the young adult section of the library to be checked out with parental permission only and that decision has been now appealed to the Board of Education board policy yeah board members do we have a motion on this I would make a motion to remove this book from middle

school and be a high school only book have a motion by Mr Ayers to remove the book from Greenbrier middle school or all middle schools I'm sorry and uh is there a second to that motion second and I have two at the same time that's right saying Miss hogenbo is there any question is there any discussion we do have Dr Brett here for anybody you guys okay and if anyone would like to hear from Dr Britt that's fine as well is there any discussion I'm just curious I wasn't until this even aware there was such a thing as a young adult section period and I and is that something at many are there several books in those sections and do parents really allow students to check those out I'm just curious I have a feeling

you're fishing to get a whole list of books that are in that section which is fine with me I mean I and I don't know who it was it pointed out to me that a young adult according to literacy is 12 to 18. that just blowed my mind away well and we also have our three combo schools so that have either six through twelve or seven through twelve so that there are books that are that are there for the high school because they only have one library and uh some books that can only be checked out with permission if you're in middle school anyway this is just a different facilities in Greenbrier High School yeah for discussion for the reason I made the motion is for me this book just did not seem to eat

appropriate for middle school you know and I would say in older high schoolers if it was my child you know I'm not advocating for removing it from our schools entirely uh just that if we get it in an age-appropriate setting and do do we let the do we let the Publishers decide what age appropriate is who who decides is come on up I know you're not the one that made 12 year olds a young adult I know you did not okay so and this is something that's out there it's written you can you can Google it I learned something tonight yes the young adult section you generally and pulls in and I did some research myself as well thank you there's the terms adolescent lit Middle grades lit teen lit young adult lit and so

young adult you generally means that age for 12 to 18. it more has to do with the age of the protagonist in the book so it has to do more with the book itself we in Robertson County have a selection policy all of our Librarians are well trained with master's degree in library science where they learn about how to select books for your school libraries we use reputable sources every librarian cannot read every book on the Shelf green bar middle has over 7 000 books on the Shelf um and so we use reputable sources to gather reviews of those materials and the different books and then the information about is it young adult is it sometimes they place them into categories or they give a recommended age range for the book maybe it's appropriate for

Middle grades which Middle grades in Metro is five through eight here it's six through eight it just depends on your school system and the Librarians do their work to make sure that they are selecting the best books to support the children and their community does anyone else have a question I think there's going to be some further discussion our board policy I heard you mentioned that word age a few times but I don't believe that word is mentioned in our board policy we have updated forward policies 4.402 and 4.403 to match the new age-appropriate materials act that was passed by the legislature in 2022 so yes we have we don't have specific ages because every school is very different I mean when you look at a sixth through eighth grade school you want to make

sure you have books for those sixth graders coming in you want to be preparing those 8th graders for high school there's just a wide range same thing with elementary schools we have kindergarten through fifth grade we have young at pre-k materials but also books and chapter books for fifth graders so did giving information and give it to you if you've got a full library of seven thousand books how many how many years removed over the course it was weird we had a bunch of get rid of them yes so Librarians go through a process called weeding and then we also give them a budget at the beginning of the year so they are continually working to add books to the collection as well as weed The Collection to remove materials that either are not getting

checked out wear and tear comes into that there's a lot into the process of collection development is what we call that what is there a large section of this no Greenbrier middle school has 7 000 books on the Shelf a little over seven thousand the young adult section currently has right around 500 or less books it contributes to possibly seven percent of the collection 93 of the collection is the general collection the young adult takes up a very small portion of that and then hopefully you saw the sheet that was included in the packet so for a child to check out from the young adult section they must fill out that paperwork and have that turned in before they're allowed because every family is different on their choice of what their children get to read

and every parent has the right to choose what their child reads when does that filled out that can be filled out at the beginning of the year I believe they send that home or if a parent if a child comes in and asks about a book and the librarian says well that's in the young adult section if you want to check that out you need to have a conversation with your parents and here's the form and they so it's either beginning of the year usually or it's a part of the conversation if a child comes in and asks about that I want to make sure I'm clear what you just said so we put that piece of paper in the beginning of school year they'd be sent home with a bunch of other papers right

I believe so I don't uh no it did not go home this year thank you I don't think it's in Hope with all the rest of the papers no it's more of a if I want to check if you want to check out you can it's at it I was not aware of the things I'm sorry I mean I walk in the library I want to pick out a book in this section and I'm told you have to wait take this paper home correct signed by the paper yes but here we are with this issue that that's apparent that did not happen this book was not in the young adult section at the time of it being checked out of the committee chose the committee moved it there after thank you well I'm sure we'll

have a lot more discussions coming up I think about my frame of reference for this is like TV ratings or movie ratings regardless of the age of protagonist this would have been a tvma series on Netflix you know this would have been you know I I understand other organizations that said this was a young adult book but I mean if we had a video library we wouldn't be reading out Game of Thrones to these middle schools either you know so that's kind of how I view it is that I understand it was behind an extra section but it's not age-appropriate you know I don't believe any ranking if you put this on any other medium they would not have ranked that as show this to six to eight graders and as a school system we

need to be aware of that this is my thought and and to go along with that if if I'm the eighth grader who's and my parent allows me to check that out and I check that book out and I walk out of the library and hand it to Scott or Miss Hogan to for them to read is there any protections against that that's another situation to me because hey I got a cool book I want you to reach Scott I'll check it out for you because you can't get it well I'll be honest I know I'm old but I couldn't stomach much of it because I was too embarrassed I mean I felt guilty to even read anymore if a student walked down the hallway reading this booklet out loud what would happen Dr Osborne

you're here what would happen in your school if I have you read the book I don't okay I'm not going to put you on the spot then sorry but you board members know you know the words that's been read and uh how would you feel if you was a teacher again Miss Hogan we'll put you back in the classroom for a minute you almost don't okay to the tour first graders we're going to hope they have never heard those words right and they have and we unfortunately we all know that uh with just regular TV nowadays I just I have an issue with it any other any other questions we have a motion on the floor to remove this from all middle schools is that that is my understanding and I'm sorry I did not

write down who made the second on that or was there was you the second was something Scott's saying yeah do you have a second back there okay I'm sorry I failed to write that down is there is no other questions we'll bring it to a vote all those in favor of the motion please say aye aye anyone opposed hearing none that motion passes six up I am sure that with this one book being found uh that was in regular population There's 7 000 books in that one library but I'm sure there's some people that are reading and that another possible list will be coming to us briefly so there needs to be some review of the board policy okay all right thank you sir let's move on to um approval of Department of Justice letters

um just real quick and to answer your question about handing it to someone else one of you has been handed the public library version of that and it is under my account so if I can have that see what I mean the director of students do not know for the public library anymore so those fines are no longer forgiven so please I digress ladies and gentlemen you do you've received a very draft copy uh and it's A draft copy because it still includes data from Mr Sam Jackson it is a letter that is addressed it says from Spencer Fain uh which law for him he works for is to address the U.S Department of Justice we will be getting together later on this week to make sure it's very personal to the individual that we've

been working with for the past five six seven years and but if you notice it it pretty much is a request for unitary status regarding the work this district has done since uh 2014 2015 and complying with the agreement that a few of you all were a huge part of you do notice that there's some insert applicable data here I will be getting with Mr Walling over the next couple days to include that data that pretty much shows this is what the school system looked like when we started this is what it looks like now and uh and we've done everything including all the adozone um uh requests and there are thousands of those that Miss Levin and I get to go through um uh even now we we probably get about four or five

a day uh depending on the particular situation and we will continue making those decisions and uh what is uh feared to not only District but also this this student so I hope you've had a chance to look over this and read it it's pretty cut and dry and uh and I'm requesting that the board vote on this letter uh minus the data that we'll just insert the chart that that the letter itself will will pretty much remain the same yeah and when will this data be inputed when will we come up we we hope in the next few days it's uh Mr Walling and I have have not been in the same place at the same time so okay uh since Friday so we will over the next couple days and I'm sure he's looking

forward to it it's much science do we have a motion to approve the Department of Justice letter for unitary status motion to operate motion by Miss Hogan is there a second second by Mr rice this is something that me and Miss Hogan has been looking for for many years I do think Mr Jackson who when he came on board has got on this and prepared this for us do we have any other discussion about this um all those in favor of the motion please say aye aye anyone opposed and that Pastor Ashley honestly thank you Lord uh approval of uh Elevate K-12 agreement uh ladies and gentlemen we're now to a place to where uh even with all of our uh begging and outrage and everything else that we've been trying to do to get

some of these classes covered our high school principals have just done an amazing job at scheduling and rescheduling and pushing as much as we can until January but at the end of the day we do have some classes that need to be filled we do have a company out there Elevate K-12 that provides online classes with Tennessee teachers this will if you look at the cost it will be it's about 12 000 or so per class these would be three Spanish classes at White House Heritage High School it's one chemistry class at b s Robertson high school for a total I think what 47 and some change Miss colusi I think 49 and some James thank you I was trying to look for uh Miss colozzi and uh and Dr Pruitt and others have worked

uh Tyler slee to try to get folks but this is for the second semester anyway this is the direction that we need to go for these four classes uh and I recommend approval you've heard the director's recommendation do I have a motion so moved so move is that Mr Ayers in a second second second by Miss White is there any other discussion and none if you're in favor please say aye aye anyone opposed past six zero moving on to transportation and Facilities approval of bleachers seats quotes Springfield High School I will uh Mr Brown is actually at the athletic director conference there so I'm presenting this kind of I'll I'll try to do them Justice here but the Springfield High School uh the the home side that's uh got the not the fix but the

the other stuff that's been there ever since they you know yeah you've been there um that was next on the list if you remember uh when you look at bleachers of course we took care of uh East Robertson we've taken care of uh uh quite a few uh moving forward uh very proud of the work that we've done uh with uh Mr Brown's budget this year the board agreed upon the million dollars for for these kind of things but you will see from bleachers and seats we do do not need two other quotes because they do have a state bed but you will see the quote there this company that we work that's done many of our bleachers and you will see the total there 168 thousand six hundred one dollars and eight cents and

you will see uh how many rows how many seats those kind of things uh you will notice um we're pretty excited about to get that uh growth seats 931 net seats would be 757 so we're excited to get that of course that will take place after basketball season uh kind of like we did uh Olympic Champs I recommend approval and board members do we have a motion motion to approve motion to approve but Mr rice is their second second by Mr White all those in favor please say aye aye aye any one of those in that past six of them uh we did remove seven beats on to the director of students report well if you wanted to go to Charisma spirit this is uh this the school system's the place to do it I

wanted to share with you all a few things uh different events um okay Economic Development board meeting that's not Christmas spirit necessarily uh tomorrow three o'clock but it seems like every single night for the rest of the week we either have a band concert uh a choir concert uh I will tell you hopefully you got the chance to see the uh the shop where the cop pictures that uh for Cooper town uh matter of fact I walked into iced the lady I said how many times have people asked you what was going on because they had six patrol cars in the front of Walmart where their lights blazing and I know we're just having a grand old time uh Miss Levitt we get to do it again this Thursday with Springfield and that's always a

special time very uh thankful to both of those Chiefs of police that helped it happen to Mayor Warner from cooptown was there uh participating and and having her City uh folks were officials were all there uh let you know that uh innovation academy TED Talks is also this week some of you all like to go to that and like Thursday night we've got the art night we've got the tropical Elementary Music Festival like I said there's something every night so if you want to if you want tonight and go get in the Christmas spirit just uh just holler I mean I'll send you to that particular School uh Friday this week we do have our career exploration Fair um that uh we'll send our kids not only Highland Crest but also Springfield High School and

look at the CTE programs there proud of the work that CIA and Mr Gregory our CTE departments making sure that our kids get access to those things and they're about to sign up for classes after Christmas so this is the the best way to do it and the right place to do it of course any Junior is coming to IA so be sure that's that's coming up as well uh believe it or not we also have we talked about El um in our planning session I want to let you know that Chino Park is having a stem night tomorrow night uh El family engagement at Springfield High School and then Wednesday we've got EO family engagement at Greenbrier but that includes g-e-s-g-e-m-s and ghs families uh at five o'clock there so like I said there's

definitely something for everybody we have already talked about sickness we are looking better like I said it just keeps on moving around a little bit but looks like most people are on demand we did have 28 teaching positions today that were not filled but that's that always tends to be the you know case when substitutes restricted so that's difficult sometimes last but not least just let you know that of course December 21st next week is the last half day and we will will be closed uh this office will be close to 23rd to the 28th ATS is supposed to come and and clean our floors and do all those things because they haven't been done in a couple years um so because we're always open so they're going to try to come in and then

the 30th through the second uh other than that we'll be here eight to three every day teachers do return on the 6th if you can believe that uh with three hours of professional development three hours of admin time and then our students will we welcome them back on the 9th of uh January I do want to say EOC testing is over hit the parade doc our high schools Mr Walling Dr Pruitt that was a big deal uh this this point of the year so between EOC testing and Benchmark testing uh throughout the rest of our schools our folks are definitely ready for a break um walls are up are they're not up they're starting to lay block at cranberry middle so that uh Footers report so that's exciting and just let you know with Heritage

Elementary around back they're installing the bathroom partitions finishing little details and we actually have temporary occupancy and they're bringing the storage cabinets from Home Depot delivered today so that should be in ready for little bits uh after Christmas yeah they are yes they are they're gone yeah and now we're starting prep and then we'll uh we'll pour concrete slat and bring them in get them up we're excited anything else sir that is it until we until we get to business okay is there any old business is there any new business if I can't yes uh ladies and gentlemen you have uh uh I I do have a list of and I didn't say this of course we're in each one so let me pull it out uh we have received a charter school application I'm

sorry a letter of intent we have not received the application application due date is not until the first of February uh but at this time we will uh per board policy I I I'm letting you know that and also letting you know that we have uh begin to start a Review Committee for those who are not aware of that process by law we do have to review that application and then 90 days after it's turned in that committee will make a recommendation to the board to either approve the the charter school or deny it but they also there's a rubric it's uh that the state does provide and of course the Review Committee will be in charge of that right now we do have Dr Swindle supervisor Swiss LED Michelle Darnell principal west side angel

Williams supervisor of Elementary Ed Donna doors safety coordinator Mr Jeff White School Board chair and the school board member does have to be on this committee uh Dr Hollingsworth supervisor of federal programs Melanie Dickerson assistant director of schools Theresa Levitt supervisor student services Michelle galluzzi supervisor of HR Bruce Walling supervisor system data Dr Pruitt secondary supervisor Mr Marshall supervisor of Technology uh also Ace tinmeier City Springfield tourism director and we've reached out to one more and if they agreed to be on the committee then we'll have that ready for you in January to approve okay uh the letter of intent went out to several different counties correct we were one of five it was on that there had been something that was wrong that is correctly correct it has been it was correct in 24

hours uh there is some question because that made it 24 hours late on whether or not that should have been approved uh we were waiting to hear back from uh some legal folks that are talking to the state about that but part of their application was not complete um so it was a it was a check box so who is going to approve or not approve whether or not it was turned in late I expect to hear something from the state in the next couple weeks okay I I think it's a I think we need to continue with the process and when we get an application right now right now we're just Gathering people yes sir all right any other new business hearing none let's go to comments by the board Miss Hogan aren't you

you're disappointed aren't you yes I am because you always it's always it's Christmas it's Christmas time Christmas okay it's Christmas time and you always bring us great stories you're awesome about that stuff Miss White do you have anything well I do I just want to again I don't know if everybody knows but Jeff actually lost his mother so we're we're praying for you and your family thank you very much that's tough right here at Christmas to all the the folks from schools that's reached out to me I really appreciate it thank you Miss Connie's going through a lot right now too so yeah and with her mother but he just want to wish everybody Merry Christmas okay Scott I know a flip-flopping I'm telling you you're confusing me up Miss Hogan said earlier about Bradford

you know those yes you know working all day and you're sitting in traffic trying to get here in time you're trying to figure out how do I have time to go home and eat is this drives me nut and you show up at these kids right here yeah all about the traffic so I know for the folks that are teaching the kids every day it's hard to do that but those of us get to stand back and look yeah that's a blessing those kids are a blessing so everybody has a polarized a great Christmas and well-deserved break yes Mr White definitely I I hope everybody's break is is wonderful for them and everybody has a merry Christmas I know the faculty and administration everybody at all these schools is definitely looking forward to it I

will mention this I'll brag on on the White House area a little bit um this past Saturday the White House Police Department in partnership with White House Rotary Club also did their Shop with a cop shop for about 35 students in that area and it it's always great to see almost every one of those kids takes a portion of the allotment that they're spending to buy something for Mom and Dad buy something for my little brother so it's just good to see that giving heart and kids even at a young age when they maybe don't have the means to do that they had an opportunity to do it almost all those kids do that so that was a great program that's all I have Merry Christmas thank you Mr chairs um sort of believe First

semester's almost done it's it's gone by really fast I know it's easy to say for me but uh I appreciate all the work that went into it uh really excited about the career day coming up for our eighth graders it's a great program we do and uh just thanks for everything hope you all have a Merry Christmas I just wanted to touch on a few things um number one I'm in total agreement with you Mr rice and the rest of this board it might be time to review some policies and some books uh and things like that and maybe find a better way of making things age appropriate and so thank you for bringing that up in the planning session we talked about just a letter of intent to negotiate a land purchase we one

thing I did not bring up though was did everyone see the talk of nil for high schools well that's going to take another policy or two right there so that's not the best thing in the world in my mind but I I like it pure I like it for all so the uh the last thing I wanted to bring up to let everybody know that we're looking at it we are looking at the cleanliness in the buildings uh it's something that needs to be looked at and I know that that Mr Clint I know Chris I know that they're on it and we're going to be meeting with him next month is that correct sir 5 30. all right and we will be meeting with them other than that I hope that everybody does have

a great holiday Merry Christmas to everybody and uh grab somebody close to you and tell them that you love them gonna have motion to adjourn and second I'm voting on it all in favor say aye aye y'all have a great evening
