As long as you have enough information. >> We love y'all, but we go home. [laughter] >> All right, we're going to do things a little different tonight. Mr. Kerr's gone to watch his granddaughter play middle school softball in Greenbryer against the Yellow Jackets, I believe. So, >> he is absent tonight. Mr. Mr. Atwood is running late, but we're going to go ahead and get the get the meeting started early. So, um this is the regular meeting of the board of education for February 2026. Um is if anybody wants to speak uh about anything on our agenda, you need to sign in now. If anybody from the public is want to speak. Okay. All right. With that, we will call this meeting to order. Do I have a motion? >> Motion. >> Second. [laughter] >> All

in favor? >> All [snorts] right. We'll call the meeting to order. Right now, we'll stand for the prayer and pledge. Chris, >> heavenly father, Lord, we thank you once again for the blessings you've given us, Lord. We thank you Lord for the safety of this school Lord. Please continue to bless it Lord. We ask you to bless our teachers Lord here that they in every day Lord that they may involve these children in the activities that they are Lord. Thank you Lord for that. We thank you for salvation Lord in Jesus Christ name. Amen. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Okay, y'all have to bear with me. If I

do something out of order, somebody needs to raise a flag or speak up. >> Okay. All right. So, we are ready for the approval of the agenda for this February meeting. Do I have a motion for approval? >> Motion. >> Go ahead. >> Second. [clears throat] >> Second. >> All in favor? >> All opposed. Okay. The agenda is approved. All right. On our consent agenda, we have a lot of fundraisers and multiple uh field trips. Just a reminder that there are some overnight field trips in our consent agenda. I need to make sure uh you look over that, see if there's anything you want to pull out for new business for discussion. I do have a note on uh to I no J the TCHS volleyball fundraiser in our um information. It was going to

be a GoFundMe link and that is going to be changed to the Goofan account that we use for uh everything schoolwide. The volleyball team will have a QR code that people can pay electronically, not have to use cash or check. So, we will not be doing the GoFundMe link or account. It will be GoFan, which we currently already use for other things. Any questions about anything in the consent agenda? Okay. Have a motion to approve that. >> Motion. >> Second. >> All in favor? Okay. >> You're supposed to say I take [laughter] >> consent agenda is approved. >> Okay. Now we're ready for school district highlights. >> Yes. So um back a couple of years ago instruction partners who were our consultants for a while and do research for us asked Dr. Ciderfield, he was

here at the time if we could participate in a research and it was the next step and principal ro clarity and this uh paper came out in January and it has trouser county in it and the whole goal of the paper they did a paper prior to this and this one is just clarifying it and they had um the elementary Miss Pedru Miss Porter myself Dr. Stherfield and Mr. more um talked with them about how we do things and the roles of our principles, the roles of our assistant principles and um they just wanted to know what every teacher receives, how what's the role of the principal, what do they do, what's the role of the district office and then Hartsville Trouser County is highlighted in here. Charles County Schools. They don't mention names, but

they talk about a h our hierarchy and how principles lead the school as a whole while assistant principles carry out the day-to-day instruction and how principles manage the discipline, the school culture, the community engagement, and the support they get from the um central office. There were only four school systems that were involved. Charles County and then Valor Collegiatemies Metro Nashville Public and Houston Independent School District. So this is linked and it's a good read if you have time to do that. Any questions? Okay, now we will be ready for our student school board representative. Zoe, [clears throat] >> talk slow, Zoe. [laughter] >> Okay, tell us a long story. >> Good [clears throat] to see you on the side. >> Starting off last week on February 13th, we got announced the class ranking average for

our senior class. We've got our valadictorian being Caleb Featherson and our saludatoran being Wyatt Wided. And then the high school finished their spring picks on Wednesday the 18th. And I believe the middle school finished their spring pictures tonight or today. And then we've got the Miss Chal pageant on March 6th coming up. That's a Friday. And then the junior pageant is going to be March 7th, which is the following Saturday. Both pageantss are going to be at the high school auditorium and it's $7 per ticket for admission. For FBLA, they are rounding up students to go to the state leadership competition in April. And so far, they've got 24 students signed up. And then FFA, they are competing in a mechanics today. They've got National FFA week coming up next week, which has got a

lot of fun teacher appreciation gifts and activities. And then Anna Towns competed in the Star Farmer interview and got third place regional. Clifton Porter interviewed in the Star Green and got eighth place regional and then they are also preparing for their state convention which is next month the week of spring break and that's all we've got going on right now for the month of February. >> Are you doing the FBLA convention again? >> Did you do that? Okay. >> Yeah. >> And this is where you compete. >> Didn't you compete? >> I competed in organ organizational leadership the first year and then international business. >> Okay. And that's where you learn how to like speak in public. >> So FFA has gone to the skills today. Is that right? >> In Watertown. >> Yep. It's

always in water town. Yeah. >> And I can get the statistics on how they placed if y'all want for the next one. >> That'll be fine. Yeah. >> Yeah. Okay. Sounds good. >> Any questions for her? We should think of something to drag this out, but >> it is what it is. >> Very thorough report. [snorts] >> Thank you. >> Right now, is it would want to know if they survived love day? [laughter] >> Okay, now for the director's report. >> Okay, we for undermployment notifications. Miss Chelsea Jones has resigned her position as the head volleyball coach at the middle school. Um Mr. Billy had asked around and didn't have any taggers at the time. So I have sent that out to all three schools to see if anyone was interested and they would start

in March. So hopefully by next month we will have somebody in that position. Um academic goals and updates. Again, mine's going to be short just like Zoe. There's not a lot going on. We were out for a lot of time. Uh we were out of school seven days for the ice storm. So, we have three snow days left, but after we got back, I think everybody was ready to get back, teachers and students and parents. Uh, we are back in the swing of things. Everything's going along. I know a lot of districts around us have actually been out yesterday and today because of the flu. They've had to shut down. We've been lucky. We haven't had that much sickness. There are some things going around, but not to the point that we even have to

consider that. So, we have been lucky in that respective. But uh the teachers, the principles, the janitors, they are all so congenious this time of year to make sure they wipe everything down and bleach everything and students wipe their hands and sanitize. So we do everything that we can to prevent that. We have parent conferences that are coming up March 19th. So we will be getting prepared for that. Uh we will have um our final benchmarks coming up the 8th I believe of March. So right before that. So we'll be doing finishing up Bane as well, finishing up benchmarks, getting ready for um uh parent conferences because after parent conferences will be spring break and then we get into testing season. So everything is going to start moving at a fast pace after February. Summer

school student applications are now open online. Uh they will close on March 19th after teachers have had a chance to talk to parents. [clears throat] Miss Badr has sent out letters to the ones who are um at risk of being retained or or not doing as well as they need to on their TECAP. Uh letters have gone home. Summer school this year will be held January 1st through the 26th. And we are in the planning stages of that right now. >> June 1st. What did I say? January. >> Sorry. Okay. June 1st through the 26th. Thank you. We are in the planning stages. Um I have people reaching out now wanting to help in the summer school. So we will be doing that. Project updates. Our chiller has been delivered. If you've driven by the

middle school, you can see it sitting on out there on the rock area, gravel area. The concrete pad has finally been poured. Johnny [clears throat] got out there last week and it looks really good. It's a little bigger than we thought, but it's a perfect fit for that area. Uh Bransford will be here next week to install it, and by the end of the week, it will be hooked up and ready to go. So, we will be ready for when the warm weather gets here. Uh during the ice storm, um we had we found that there were some leaks in the roof at the elementary school that we just put on. Uh it's under a 20-year warranty, so we called alert. They were there today to fix it. I have >> I was going to

say I haven't heard from Mr. Wilson on the progress. He [clears throat] was going to keep me updated, but we had several areas um that was a point of contention, but they are working on it because it is under warranty. Uh they've been really good with us about that. We are having a little bit of difficulty at the high school with the fire sensors. They are very sensitive. They've been going off a lot. Mr. McCall and myself get phone calls quite often through the night and it's just I mean it could be a mouse running across the floor or a paper hanging up or something. I mean they're very sensitive. So provincial will be here next week to look at them and lower the sensor on them if need be so that they stop going

off just uh we by 17 we've been waiting for an engine to be delivered. Uh Mr. Wilson has talked to Cummings. It should be delivered this week and hopefully the bus will be back at the end of the month in um on the road and we'll be going for that. Uh as far as the filmhouse, the lights in the wait room and locker room, there's an issue. They're too dim. I loved it yesterday. Uh they've got fancy lights in there. And when I say fancy, I mean fancy. It's like a big square. there's nothing in the middle and then there's lights around it. So, uh we are working on a solution to that to make it brighter. The other parts of the fieldhouse, it's like these lights. It's very bright. So, we are working on

a solution to that. Uh the showers are being installed. They've got h there's four showers. Half of them have been installed and they are getting ready to do the rest of them. And then the floor, they're working on the floor to get it um in shape as well. And then the other things are going on their Asphalt will be here two or three weeks. I think they're getting ready for that. So, things are moving along there. Uh the um trophies are in the case now that we've got. They look good. And I think that's about it. >> Have they given an idea of a completion date so we can start [clears throat] bathroom discussions? >> So, next the 27th when is that? Thursday, Wednesday, some the 27th we are supposed to get our certificate of

occupancy. Um it will looks like maybe the end of March before everything will actually be moved in there and out of the old fieldhouse as of right now. So we're looking probably end of March. >> Did they get the situation with the air units and all the street? >> I talked to Dr. Satderfield today and he showed me a picture of what they were going to do. Uh they're supposed to build like a catwalk or something above it so that it will be easy access to get to. So they're gonna put put that in. Yeah. It's so we've had some little hiccups along the way that we're working trying to get worked out so that everything is like we want it. And >> but normally to get a certificate it has to be >> I

know that's why I say they're [laughter] supposed to get it the 27th of February. that's when they're hoping to, but >> I don't know. In a few days, we'll see if that's going to happen or not. Um, there's a chance it might not, quite frankly, if there's a chance it might not happen next week. So, >> anybody have any questions? >> We were like slow rolling. [laughter] >> Thank you. >> Okay, so we don't have old business. So we are ready for new business. Yes. Okay. And our new business is our uh bus drivers proposal to be paid for their uh inclement weather days moving forward. >> Any discussion? >> Yeah. Any discussion? [laughter] Well, I want to say thank you to everybody who drives a bus here for our district that's students. The traffic,

the size of it, everything to me is um be a very difficult job. So, I appreciate everybody who takes the time to transport our children and I still see all the trees and limbs and stuff [snorts] all over the place. So, um I appreciate the job that everybody does. driving the buses, uh, to school, games, field trips, you know, whatever kind of event that we have going on. >> Um, so is there discussion for this proposal for them to be paid their snow days? >> I can make a motion. I make a motion that we start from tonight paying them their school their days forward from here. I don't want to go retroactive. >> Okay. So, the motion you're making is they begin starting today being eligible to be paid for snow days. Correct. >>

Inclement weathers. Inclement weather. >> Is that right? Wisconsin the way you worded right. >> Yes, sir. >> What is your recommendation? >> Have I would recommend starting today, moving forward to give them their pay when they miss snow days? >> Okay. Is there a second for this motion? >> I would make a motion. Okay. Okay. So, there has to be other discussion. >> They're going to be discussion now. [laughter] Somebody got to say something. >> I personally I personally believe that um they deserve to be back paid for their snow days. We budgeted for it's in the budget. Missing seven days of work is huge for anybody to go without pay. It's we we we budgeted for the money. We have it sitting somewhere. I don't I don't know. >> We budget for a lot,

but don't have them, >> right? But we pay every other employee in our district snow days >> and no other no other and I'm all for them to have it. You hear me saying this? But no other nobody else has come to us and tried to make a deal that they gave up those days to get a higher wage and now you're coming back saying I want the snow days. >> But didn't they last year and we didn't pass it? >> When did we start that? >> No, but I mean didn't they come last year and ask for the >> five or six years ago since then. And how many how many employees have you negotiated deals with? >> So that's my only problem. >> Yeah, >> I have no problem. If if this was

a problem, [clears throat] they should have come before the snow days hit and said, "Hey, we need to discuss this, this, and this." And I'm 100% for it. But now that it's hit, we want to go retroactive, which changes a whole lot of stuff. I mean, that's gonna take a whole lot more. I know the money's there. I'm not arguing that. But as far as the load on the people in here to go back retroactive, blah blah blah blah. It's just it's not worth it to me. That's my opinion. And I >> and that's where I'm on the fence. I wanted to pass it last year, right? I wanted to pass it last year. So, if I say, "Well, they get back paid." Well, then I really just got my way from last year. But

I don't like the backpack. I don't like it. But I want them to get their snow days. And so I feel like it's not going to pass [laughter] if you know what I'm saying. So here I am on the fence. I want them I wanted them to get their snow days last year, which means you wouldn't have had to have this conversation. But I don't like I don't like the back pay because I just I feel like that's bad business. I feel like it's bad business. We went into the school year knowing that and I just I feel like it's bad business. But going forward, I want them to have their snow days. So, it's like I have to I have to make a compromise for that to pass is what I feel like. That's

a conversation I would have had. >> Let me let me ask you this question. [laughter] Okay. We are sitting right here and this is no different than Miss Ray coming in here with her situation. Okay. Yes. We all agreed that she deserved what she was asking for. The rules had changed, blah blah blah, but we couldn't give it to her because of that was the rule. [clears throat] >> You see what I'm saying? >> And it would have affected another child. >> That's right. >> You're you're in the same situation here. You're you're looking at it going back when if the issue was there, why didn't you come before? So, >> I see that, but it's a whole different situation when you're talking seven days worth of pay whenever >> I I understand. I'm not

arguing when nobody's pay. I'm just saying when you start going back pay, >> you're you're getting into a mess. >> And you all know that from running. >> I'm sure they probably wish they would have did it before they went without getting snow days. So, no, I agree 100% that they should have their pay. I just don't want to go back pay. That's my opinion. So, I'm going to disagree respectfully. >> No, that's fine with me. It don't bother me. >> This came Now, this did come up come up last year about this same time. >> Mhm. >> And like I said, and it voted it down. So, do I think this was a continuing thing? Yes, they and nobody expected seven days. Okay. Now, we we're very fortunate in traffic county. We got bus

drivers. Okay. You can't go out on the street anywhere and pick up the next bus driver. We need to take care of the bus drivers. We got >> very 100%. >> And if I get and I'm just going to say it like this and we can do whatever you want to. I'm gonna make a motion that we give them back pay. If I don't get a second, I'm fine with it. But >> So, is your motion just to give them back pay or give them back pay and pay them snow days going forward? >> Yes, both. I I will I will reiterate that. >> And there's 10 snow days total and they've used seven. >> Well, okay. So, we have three snow days left. >> Okay. So that so they would Okay, but that would

be >> they we had one day in November for the heat. This last run was seven straight days. And I think that's what they're talking about the seven days. We've had eight days of no school this year. >> Can you state that again, [clears throat] please? Chris, >> in November we had a day off because the heat was messed up. So they did not drive that day. >> So they take only have two snow days left. >> No, we have three snow days left. >> So are we back paying them for seven days or eight days? That's what >> that's the problem you going to get into. You're opening Pandora box. >> We have had eight days of no school this year. We had >> Well, they only asked the other night for seven days.

>> And that and my motion will be to pay them back pay for seven days and can as we said from now on they get paid for snow days if I don't get a second. >> Let me ask let me ask you a question. Yes, sir. >> What was it two years ago or was it last year we made a motion to start paying their insurance? I do not know that. >> Was it last year? >> Two years ago. It wasn't >> two years ago. >> Okay. >> Did we pay your health insurance? >> Yes. >> Yeah. >> Don't get health insurance. >> You your yours. You get it because of >> Okay. Cuz I started decid Well, >> drivers get insurance. We made sure of that. >> Okay, then I need to relook at

myself. >> If you if you've got kids or husband on it, you pay for them. >> So, sometimes it's hard to know what you >> probably want to check. >> It was either last year or the year before we voted to give all bus drivers health insurance. >> I'm not I don't 100% know what we pay that that we might pay 50% 80%. We pay 100% per person. >> I thought that was right, but I I can't speak my >> employee gets 100% then from there it goes. >> Right. >> Only the bus drivers. >> Only bus drivers. >> Everybody. >> We voted only bus drivers. >> That's another question and that's a whole another conversation. >> Everybody else gets something. >> Okay. So, back to the motion. Chris has a motion to pay them

pay the bus drivers snow days moving forward and seven days back pay for this recent um ice storm ice snowstorm. Second I'll make a second. Okay. All in favor? >> I I >> All opposed >> I [laughter] Okay. So, three, two, one. [laughter] >> I let I will let Miss tomorrow. >> Okay. [laughter] >> What's on the next list? We're done with that one. >> The account analysis. doing. >> Uh, we have a motion to adjurnn. >> Make a motion to adjourn. Second, I deny that motion. We're [laughter] done with you. Only been here 14 minutes. >> The motion is not debatable. He's either >> some people have to some people work for a little while session. >> A second journ. Motion is not debatable. You have to vote on it. >> All in favor?

>> Okay, we're journ. >> Yep. If it rains again, we got to reschedule this meeting. [laughter] >> You did good. You did fine. >> Or if it doesn't rain again, if Mr. Kur's not here, we got to reschedu. [laughter] You did fine. Thank y'all for coming. Congratulations. >> Thank you. and my king.
