Uh we'll call the uh November meeting of the Charlesdale County Board of Education to order. At this time, would everybody please stand for the invocation and then remain standing for the pledge of allegiance. Heavenly Father, please be with us tonight as we go through the school board looking [snorts] over the best things that are for everybody, looking over the things that will do your will in the future. You are the one that died on the cross for us to save everything that we have. [snorts] Heavenly Father, please be with us as we try to be the light like a lighthouse to shine your light as we go through life. In your name we pray. Amen. I pledge algiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands.

One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Thank you. Be seated. So, at this time and is there any member of our audience that would like to uh this is our time for public comment. If you're not on the agenda, if you're on the agenda, you don't have to worry about that, but if you uh uh got anything that you'd like to make the board aware of? [clears throat] Okay. Is there anybody in our audience that would like to speak to a specific item on the agenda that's not on the agenda already? It's not like the work session. So, if you think you want to say something, you need to sign in. All right. Next is our approval of the agenda for tonight. Please look over it. See, we went over

this pretty good. Anybody got anything that uh needs to be added? Okay. Do I have a motion to approve tonight's agenda? >> Motion. >> Have a motion by Miss Penny to approve tonight's agenda. Do I have a second? >> I second that motion. >> Second by Miss Bodie. Any discussion? >> All in favor, please say I. >> I. And opposed, please say no. >> We do have a agenda for tonight. Next, please look over the consent agenda. We went over these uh kind of hurriedly a little bit Tuesday, but if there so if there's any item that you feel like needs to have more discussion, please tell me which item that is and we can pull it. Move it to new business. If there is nothing that needs to be pulled, I would accept a

motion to approve tonight's consent agenda. >> Make a motion to approve the consent agenda. >> Motion by Miss Bod to approve the consent agenda. Do I have a second? Second. >> Second by Miss Petty. Any discussion? Questions or anything? >> You got it. >> All in favor, please say I. >> I. >> Any oppose, please say no. >> Does consent agenda does pass? School district highlights. Miss Coffin, do we have a Are you the highlight? [laughter] >> But I got the highlight. >> Okay. Okay. Well, who's going to do >> tonight? I told you he was the highlight. >> No, no, no, no, no. I'm not. Yeah, the school board is the highlight. Um, I understand when you went to the TSBA conference that there was somehow that they I did not realize and but

somehow they featured our board as winning the healthier school challenge getting out of >> I didn't make that known while we was there. Well, they sent they sent a they sent a certificate uh suitable for framing to the board of education for meeting the uh healthier school challenge along with TSBA and well >> I believe I see you platinum delegation. >> Oh, did we get a platinum? >> So, Mr. Kerr, congratulations. Everybody give the board a hand for [applause] and I know you can see Mr. her walking every morning at 7 >> finally paid off. >> Yes, sir. But congratulations and thank you very much. >> No, that is great. I never >> Chris, did you see anything? >> It was never mentioned this time. >> I know. Did you see anything on Friday? I

>> never [clears throat] but we are appreciative of that. For the main reason is how much were we able to uh raise for the school system? Coach monetarily >> $8,000. So us doing that brought in $8,000 that can be used through for the school system in whatever ways needed. >> So Kathy Atwood has probably already got that money >> spot spent. It's dead. >> $8,000 doesn't go a long way in school budget. But, uh, I do want to tell all my board members, I appreciate y'all, uh, helping. And, uh, I think that I think that's great that was able to do that. If >> Rachel hadn't been our mother hand, we would have never got it done. >> I know. I forgot it when you brought it up. Yeah. All right. Principal's reports. Uh, you

[laughter] look like you just want to go first. I'll go. >> Is Landon not here? >> So, we have been busy at the elementary school. We have had a lot of things going on, a lot of sickness, >> but we are pushing through. [clears throat] We had a second grade field trip. They went to the Hermitage and they had a fantastic time. I didn't go as a chaperone, but I was told that the kids were very well behaved and they were even able to participate in they this year there was a new educational setting so it's like a 45minute class and they were able to participate and answer questions and they were even really thrived on because they were discussing the horror of 812 >> and that is one of their favorite events in CKLA.

So, we had a great time. Everybody made it down there and back safely. So, it's wonderful. The second grade was able to take that field trip trip. Parents paid for it, but we applied for a grant and we received that grant. So, we will because we had to pay for the field trip beforehand, we'll take that money and we will use that for a second field trip in the spring for second grade. The money that we receive from the grant. So, and they're even looking at a third field trip. Second grade is really the year that those teachers, they do a great job planning field trips and making sure that they're impactful for kids and relevant to the curriculum. We had a fantastic Veterans Day program at the high school. Thank you, Mr. McCall. This

was the first year that we have moved it from the elementary to the high school. the the elementary school doesn't have the auditorium with the sound system that is really conducive to programs such as that and it was we had a whole house and Mayor McCall was our speaker and the veterans were very very appreciative. They said that they felt this was the best show. We had come scout troop 1212 and that troop is led by Stephanie Coburn who is a second grade teacher at the elementary school. They were precious. They they just did a great job. So our singers club which is led by Miss Katherine Gregory the music teacher at the elementary school. [snorts] They did a phenomenal job. And of course Mr. Robert Thurman brought the house down with his selections. He

always does a great job. So, thank you, Mr. McCall, for allowing us to have that program there. And we will do our Christmas program as well in December. So, thank you for allowing us to use your facilities. We had turkey trot. It's the first time we've had turkey trot in a long, long, long time. And the kids, we actually, our planned run day was today. [cough] So, [clears throat and laughter] we saw that all all it was supposed to rain all week, so we made a a quick change last week and we moved it to last Friday and it was wonderful. The kids had a fantastic time. We had bubbles. It was It was great. It was good to see the kids out there all running and hanging out. and especially the younger ones, they'd

make one laugh and then they'd sit down and talk the rest of the time. So, it's it was just it was a lot of fun. And so, now the kids are collecting their pledges and we will take that money and they choose what they want to do for reward day. So, that's what that is used for. And they've already told me their list of things that they want. So it's really it's really exciting that they get to um participate in um actually plan and execute set goals and then reap the benefits. So we are trudging along with um getting preparing for our benchmarks before the end of the year. We have a food drive going on and we're going to have to get a little more snazzy. Mr. Gully and I are behind the times

with Mr. McCall. He is out to get the bean trophy. So, >> are they cheating? >> Yeah. No. Yes. [laughter] We've not talked about the food drive this week. But >> you don't have to talk about it because the kids, you've already promised them your carrot is like the size of this podium here. >> Elementary school trying to follow the rules here. That's what I get from being a rule follower. I just >> But we'll get with it. That's okay. That's okay. You did. You did. You follow the rules. All right. [clears throat] So, uh, but we're excited. It's always great for us to have a little friendly competition and really help the community because we know that times are hard and people need a little more assistance this year and I it's just great

to see all of the schools all ages chip in and not it's not only about academics and sports it's about being a good human. So, this is one of those things that you can't put that in a grade or a trophy, but you can put it in there. So, it's about being a good community. We're excited that we get to help build some good things. >> Any questions? >> When does the food drive begin? >> Tomorrow. >> Anybody have any questions? Miss Demetress. Thank you, ma'am. Zoe. >> All right, starting off with that food drive. It's actually going really well at the high school. [laughter] >> We're having fun and this student council is helping out a lot. We've got students everywhere. you know, they're collecting the cans from the home room and they might

there might be a little bit of friendly competition in there. So, it's really fun. The we had the state board come and they had a student panel at in the auditorium and they brought students from all the pathways taking all the electives. They talked to us about our thoughts and criticisms on the current school system and then they really were impressed by our school's culture and we told them it was kind of the student teacher relationships and they thought that it was really really cool cuz we're very close to our teachers and it's a really good school culture out there. So FFA they have come back from nationals in Indiana. They took the board members out there and they competed and placed third in preliminary procedure at station camp recently and they're working on Operation

Christmas Child with the FBLA and Interact Club. FBLA took 49 students to the Titans Learning Lab a couple weeks ago. So that was really neat. It was like it just keeps growing every year. the FBA and then they're beginning pre-esting for state leadership conference which will be in Chattanooga in the spring and then of course they're going to be in the Christmas parade and they're working on Operation Christmas Child with FFA. Then just visited this month and they spoke to the juniors and the seniors. We're ordering our caps and gowns. We're super excited. And then we had four students compete in Skills USA with TCAT this year. That was super impressive. We had Jose Rodriguez placed first out of 10 in welding and Alexis Trout placed fifth out of 10 in automotive. They loved it.

Like yeah, it's it's insane. And then we got new scoreboards for from Wilson County Bank and Trust. We've got the ACT coming up. The national test day is Saturday, December 13th, and we've got about 20 kids signed up. And then we're going to kick off basketball season Tuesday at Mon. That's everything. >> That's great. Lot going on. >> A lot. >> So, how's the food? I don't see a food critic. >> The food it's going. I know. She [laughter] say I say she can make her own food critic quickly [laughter] to bring food. >> Well, I can tell you me and Kayen eat lunch together every other day and those pizzas are good. [laughter] That turkey that turkey day today was very very good. >> Turkey was better last year. >> Way better. >> So,

y'all had real turkey this year? >> We did. [laughter] Although we did miss out on Chinese day last week. >> I was going to say >> Zoe. So I I attended the day that the board the state board was here and Zoe and Kayen both are phenomenal voices for our students, our schools. And I mean being from here, it's always such a good experience to hear them sit and communicate communicate with the state board and legislators and they learn a lot from you all. So great job. >> Very impressive. >> Very good. Our students do a great job. >> Agree. They also did a great job with the veteran state. >> Yes. That's why I let her add today. So I'm just going to add to a couple things she said. Um obviously with the

state board they brought seven eight members um of their staff members they brought two of their lawyers. Um they do that about twice a year to districts across the state to variety of districts just to get in sort of the heartbeat of what's going on in schools. They say a lot of times they deal with the negative things going on. So they really want to just get their people out from their staff to their lawyers just to talk to teachers and students. Um we also had representative Slater and Crael that came and sat in on a couple of our uh our sort of talk sessions. We did one with students, one with teachers and one with administrators. And their big thing was uh one they talked about how our our the soft skills of our

students and their ability to talk to adults. They don't see that everywhere. Uh they talked about a lot of places they go, they see a lot of dog and pony shows and our people just sort of talked them about what's going on, the good and the bad, the things that need to change. Talk about standards. Uh talked about things that go in school, the classes you take, classes you don't think you need to take, but little things like that that needs to help them when they have uh [snorts] a big thing was algebra 2. Miss Thomasson talked about how there there's a couple standards they took out that then the test but then the the uh standards they took but it affect the ACT because those are parts of that national test >> that they're

having to sort of uh fill gaps when it [snorts] comes to like uh classes that a kid might need just to benefit them because the standards aren't aren't covered with state standards any more. Um so it was really good. We also went to TCAT which you know when when it comes to our school system TCAT is is a major portion of that and they got to tour through our pathways uh talk about what the future looks like and its impact on our school. So they it was just a really good day for them to see what school is like and all the pieces that apply to that. Um scoreboards we did get new scoreboards. Uh, we'll make a trust. I think they're gonna come by tomorrow morning to take some pictures with us. And >>

they replaced the B. >> Yes, they just did that yesterday. >> I need to know that and send me a picture. Yes. I paid them to >> he me today [laughter] as soon as they went up. He said I'm more. Uh, and I've talked to some maint and they're they told me they're going to do school next year, which is a was a which is a major need. So, we appreciate that contribution from them. Uh we do have Jasmine Dunn signing uh basketball. Let's see next December 3rd. Um coming up, we got 14 days to Christmas be fast benchmarks, uh tripod surveys, and we got a national ACT testing date coming on the 13th. So those are the little things I want to add that we said. Any questions about that? Awesome. Thank you. Okay,

director's report. >> All right, I'll try to make this quick as possible. We have been in school 74 days. That's 82% of the semester. So, it's getting down to toward the end. Uh Thanksgiving break is next week. Tomorrow's our last day of school. We'll be out for five days for December the 24th through the 28th. And we will return to school on Monday, December the 1st. Miss Brown, be sure you put that on your calendar. >> We put November, not December. [laughter] Be sure you get that on your calendar. Um I like Mr. McCall talked about. Well, districtwide, we're doing our tripod student surveys. We start that assessment on December the 1st when we get back. Principles, I've sent you your login cards and everything. So, y'all should be ready to go with that. We

would like to complete that by Wednesday, uh, December the 10th where it doesn't overlap with benchmark. So, you got about a week and a half, about eight days to to get that done. And then um our staff, Miss Catherine, will be working on the Christmas breakfast on Friday, December the 19th, and that'll be that morning. Our strategic compensation payments go out tomorrow. And uh we always have been able to do that prior to Black Friday. So that's really [clears throat] big that we've been able to pull that off. Another thing Mr. call was talking about with the state board and the followup that they had with me was not only were they interested in the things that the principal talked about, but they had a high interest in our strategic compensation plan [clears throat] and

uh they're trying to hook us up with state legislators to hear more about that. But the chairman of the state board, Bob Eie, if you remember, he talked about that somewhat in that meeting. But that they were really interested in that. Uh important dates to remember, of course, Thanksgiving break is next week. We return to school [cough] on December 1st. The last day of the semester is Friday, December the 18th. That is a school day. It is an abbreviated day. We don't run buses. If you wanted to come to school, you got to bring your own ride and we'll dismiss you at 8:00. So, you might want just want to stay home that day. Uh Christmas break will be December the 22nd through January the 2nd. Uh we will return when we come back for

the second semester. We teachers always try to come back a day sooner to get them good and woke up and ready to receive STS the next day. So, we expect our teachers back for our professional development on Monday, January the 5th, and then our students return on Tuesday, January the 6th. Project updates. As you know, we have put a chiller out for bid with train. These accepted at bid. They're supposed to be manufactured. We They tell us it's supposed to be delivered in mid January. We've also last uh month you approved the installer which is Bransburg Mechanical and they'll start working prepping and stuff for that to come. So that's on the uh horizon. The athletic complex is moving along really well now. If you drive by it, it is starts to look like something

now. But the brick and stone work has been completed. The window and door frames have all been installed except for three, and they're supposed to be here at any time. Uh the metal roof has been installed, but the cornice and stuff has not. And uh he said just a couple of days and those people should be coming back to put the metal siding on it. Uh the handrails. Oh. Oh, I got that. They're working on the handrails. They look great. Uh they're galvanized. Pass that around. And they've been working on this week, but they got to go to another job. So they're skipping me for a week and then they're coming back on the first. But if you drive by, they look really well. Another thing they've been doing is uh in the wait room,

they had an artist painted a yellow jacket. It's a good looking yellow jacket. And then in the dressing room, she painted a 3D helmet. And She's out. She's from Cook. She's really tall. I forgot her name. She's really tall and she's really good. Like she did one each day. >> She painted that free hand. >> That's impressive. >> Free hand. And u But it really >> She painted that yellow jacket freehand. >> Yes. >> Pretty good. >> I do some paint by number. >> [laughter] >> Um, they are presently still working on putting in the electrical conduit, the HVAC, and they we do not have any electricity on yet, and we don't have gas or water on. >> Have the lockers been moved? >> No, but they've been disassembled in the old fieldhouse and they

are ready to move on their queue. Okay. >> So, we think it'll be just what, eight to 10 days, working days somewhere. But they've all been disassembled. They're ready to be moved when they tell us they can. They are working on the parking lot. They've got the construction trailer moved. Everything that was in there, they've got it moved. And they were actually expecting the paving company to come today, but it was calling for rain. They're going to go in there and mill the asphalt down so far, and then they're going to repave it. And uh so uh we expect that to take place at any time. The monthly maintenance report, I think I gave you Tim's maintenance report that's there. Uh some things he said the heat at the elementary school is up and running.

We had a cold snap. Uh we converted the heat and said the elementary is doing well and the middle school is is going well now. No problems is reported at the high school. Bus 12 who run that ran into Cheese's Bank. Uh we expect it to be back in line. Hopefully it's going to be returned to us next week. So by December the 1st, we expect it to be back in the fleet. And then the board, you approve the uh budget amendment for the U bus 17 engine replacement. So we'll be working on that. And I think that's all the projects and facilities that I have to report. If you unless you have any questions, >> you left that one date December the 11th. >> Yes. >> The uh reception, is that what you'd call

it? Or Dr. Satfield as he exits our school system will be from 5 to 7 at the high school in the auditorium. Do you have any refreshments? >> Uh, >> do we have refreshments? >> Yeah. So, come and get [laughter] >> You have to give free food in order to [laughter] ask. >> We wanted a few people show suggested. >> And if I got to be here for two hours, I want to eat something. [laughter] We're thinking about an open bar. >> That might [laughter] attract the wrong crowd. [laughter] >> Anybody have any folks that probably take you up on that? [clears throat] >> Thank you. Thank you. >> Jennifer, do you have something? >> Okay. >> All right. Back to our agenda. We have no old business. So, we will get into our new

business. First on our new business is Kaden Ray who's asking us to uh uh really to change the rules of the uh class rank policy which you have in your pocket packet which is 4.602. Kaden talked with us on Tuesday night. Did a tremendous job. Kaden, is there something else you'd like to tell us tonight? >> No, sir. >> Sure. The floor is yours if you want. >> I'm good. >> Okay. >> Well, I want you to go again. I told you you did a tremendous job. You're a great speaker. >> Thank you. >> You might want to, like I said, you might want to be a lawyer. [laughter] She did a pretty good job on you, didn't she, Bernie? [laughter] No, she did. She was She was really, really good. All right. So, the

question before the board tonight and as I said, Kaden did a tremendous job Tuesday night uh telling about her situation and uh >> just as a quick refresher, it it it involves changing the the current rules of the top 10 policy. Am I saying that right, Mr. McCall? And uh uh we heard from Mr. McCall and uh and Jennifer and I'm going to call on them again for just a minute to see if there's anything else that they have to say. But the the question before the board tonight is whether or not to to change the rules of the uh top 10 policy uh for this year's seniors. Actually, I guess it would be for this. Am I right? That's right. That's right. For this year's senior Okay. All right. Uh, Miss Cotton, do you

have anything you'd like to say about this? >> No, I spoke Tuesday night with it. >> Okay, Mr. McC. Okay, so Tuesday night, again, y'all, if I misspe, let me know. It was their recommendation that we keep the policy as is. Am I correct, Mr. McC? >> Am I correct, M? >> Okay. So, uh, the question before the board tonight is is does do we want to change the rules governing the class rank policy? That's the question. >> I make a motion to change the rules for the class rank policy >> to what? >> Remove the ACT score from our policy. The B? >> No, the science. Okay. So, we have a motion on the floor to remove the science ACT test as as being a requirement for the top 10. Okay. >> Second. >>

Have a second to that discussion. [snorts] No discussion. >> I missed your speech on Tuesday. I'm sorry I missed. I'm sure you did a phenomenal job and >> Thank you. >> Congrats on all your accomplishments so far. >> Thank you so much. >> She did. She did really good. All right. So, the question for the board is is whether or not to change the rules for the class rank policy. We have a motion by Miss Penn and a second by Mr. Wood to do that. Uh no disc hearing. Is there any discussion? I'm ready to go with y'all. Unless anybody's got something they want to say. All right. All in favor of the motion, please say I. >> Those voting no, please say no. >> No. >> So, the [clears throat] motion passes. Uh, fails

to two. Okay. So, the class rank policy will stay the same. Now, that's not to say that as we talked Tuesday night, Miss Coffer, about and we've talked about a lot of rules and stuff that be that may need to be updated as we as we prepare for our future uh retribute. >> All right. Next on our agenda, we have three teachers that uh want to talk to us about the uh different parts of the strategic compensation plan. I think a couple want to talk about the hard to staff bonus and then the other wants to talk about a u about the uh uh bonus plan. Uh so [snorts] I'm just going to go by my agenda here. Miss Deay, you up first. >> Of course. All right. So, as I said the other night,

I had [clears throat] emailed the state, and you're going to see this right at the back of the first sheet is the email um conversation that I had with the state department. Thank you. >> Um at first, I just asked to add the endorsement and they told me that I that it was unnecessary, that I couldn't, it was an unnecessary um endorsement to add since I was already qualified to teach middle school math. The next question I asked is, "If I wanted to, could I take the practice and add that?" So, if you flip over and their comment was, "Once again, you cannot add an unnecessary endorsement to your license." And so, the next was just my practice showing my score in math when I took practice back in 1994. So, um, we'll see. Did

I know that when that you voted on this that you as a board did not realize that it was being presented as an incentive for new teachers rather than those of us that have been there or veteran teachers I should say. So I'm just asking I'm appealing that I receive that compensation. Um any grand the other night you had a email that said something about recommended or something. That's not that's not on what they told her. [snorts] >> Yeah. >> Here is the email that I got from Taylor Reed. She is the head of lure and that was on August the 21st, 2024. >> She would need additional coursework. Yeah, she would have to take coursework to get the endorsement. >> The the problem is the question. >> The problem is the way the questions

are answered. I've read that. >> I've [clears throat] read Miss Catherine and if you go by Miss Deah Hayes, she's asking a point blank question. I have this. Can I upgrade it? And they say no. Each one of coaches and Miss Coffins is asking about a uh >> the back side of that >> the back side of this one is saying uh considered hard to staff and coach's comments and what they replied to her is the state says I'm not in that. >> Yeah. >> And that's the reason it's so vague. Miss Dilly asked a point blank question and they're saying no. >> So that's what's so messed up about all this. You know, >> our state department of education would not give information that was slightly vague or [laughter] each other. That would not

happen. >> We're just wondering that from the video. [laughter] Well, what tickles me is I have the emails here [snorts] and they're all going to the same spot, but you don't know who you're talking to. You know what I'm saying? I mean, did they [snorts] talk to the same people? Who knows? You know what I'm saying? I mean, it says two, but there's nobody's name addressed to it. You know, usually talks with the head. >> Yeah, that's mine. You can see there. That's that's Taylor Reed and look look here that's that's from Taylor Reed and there's a signature senior director of >> it's a district decision right >> and I specifically asked the codes that were listed that said and those codes did not come into effect until 20145 that's when they brought them in

0402019 was the first time the scores were asked to be sent in um that I can find so that's telling me that only new teachers aren't eligible for that. Or someone that could go back to school that didn't have that certification or take the practice for it. I'm not one of those. [clears throat] >> Okay. >> Yes, sir. Yes, sir. >> Other discussion? I think I've said before, she's taught here for a really long time. Her scores are what in the state? I mean, hard to staff to me and she is teaching a hard to staff position whether and this obviously says you are unable to add those endorsements. So for me, I don't I mean I feel like she deserves it even if she doesn't if we're going to pay somebody a heart of

staff bonus who is not sorry as old as a new teacher. not made it that way, but you know what I mean? You've been teaching. >> You've been [laughter] teaching so long. I personally feel like she deserves >> here. Here is my one problem with this. Okay, not a problem. It's not a problem. I'm just making a statement. Is she has a K through eight. The only person in the school system that other than her that has a K through eight in the hard of staff is uh >> Crystal. >> Okay. So, if you're going to raise Mahay, you have to raise crystals, too. Okay? Because they have the identical same stuff on their state of Tennessee document right here. And you can go through here and look and you have a piece of paper

saying that Miss Deah asked I have a K through eight, not a one through eight or anything else. She said I have a K through eight and they're telling her you cannot go above that. So if you're going to raise hers, you're going to have to raise crystals. And I'm just I'm [clears throat] being honest with you. And should someone should we decide to do that, if someone makes a motion, they could feel free to add Miss Griger's [clears throat] name to that motion if if that's uh what you want to do. >> And like what are the other ones for the math ELA 6? Do they not qualify either? >> They qualify, but they're younger. >> Yeah, they have more opportunity. They've changed >> all the lure has changed completely since Tyra and Crystal

>> and then went through it. Now you have to have >> now in order to you have to have the license that would get you the hard to staff bonus. That's why we have how many is it Jennifer that we already have now that's getting it in the >> at the middle school just two >> two because that's what the state's going to now that license wasn't available when Tyra went through when Crystal went through I mean >> the middle grade math 6 to8 is the one that you use passes you see what I'm saying that's one of the hard staff right >> they have K through eight math You see what I'm saying? Because you couldn't get a back then they didn't have a 68 >> from what the state says in that email.

So back then I mean this this license that that Tyra has or have is so old that's my license. That's exactly what I had. And what it was for was people either were certified >> elementary through 8 and then if you were in high school a lot of times it would be seven through eight. So the way they covered middle school or junior high as we called it licensing was that way one license K through eight one license 7 through 12. >> I was the last year that bought a K through eight. So, >> so I mean that's just the way they >> when you're later I would have you would have had to choose. And so that this is why I think sixth grade doesn't fall into that because it's K6 >> or 68.

And so if you were going to be a middle school teacher, you should have gotten a 68. And K6 is a more general degree. It's an essentially an elementary degree. And the 68 requires you to specialize in a certain category. So, if you're a 68, you would have to say, "I'm going to do a math certification or I'm going to do a science or a social studies." And and my understanding of the hardest staff bonus is to attract because if if we're hiring for a seventh and eighth grade and and I think the way it's written, it looks like sixth grade, too, because it says middle school in our in our bonuses. But what we're hoping to do is attract someone that has that extra certification because then they have higher qualifications to be able

to teach math. And I think Tech has three. They're graduating this year. I think I think that's >> endorsements two last year. >> Yeah. And so I mean it's pretty tough to get somebody to come to Little Charles County when we've got that. So that's the reasoning behind that. But if you're a sixth grade teacher, you've got that K6, but you also have the option to have a 68. So to me that I don't know that in some ways that feels a little unfair but that also you know you have that option to add that. >> I look at it another way although she's so young she's probably not thinking about it but should Miss Young retire I mean I'm sorry Miss Dah I always had trouble with that. should she retire. And we're looking

for a middle school math teacher. And people that are applying have the K8 endorsement, but they're which would mean they're experienced. They've been teaching a while. And an incentive for that could be we can pay you a hard to staff position because they would be coming into a hard to staff position that could help Jennifer because she's the one that's going to be doing this in the future. It may help us attract a more experienced teacher than someone just right out of college. The only the only thing that bothers me is Mahay's been in it so long. If we K through eight, it would probably come in a wheelchair. [laughter] >> The one good thing about Kyrie is is we'll get her a wheelchair with >> Oh, here we go. You know what I'm saying?

[laughter] Popping wheelies. >> I'm glad. >> Mr. listening to everyone speak and looking at the plan document. It says middle school language arts, middle school math with subject area endorsement. If you are considering going this K8 route, I believe that any teacher who has the grade level endorsement would meet that requirement. If it's a K6 then that teacher is if she is he or she is teaching in the sixth grade that's they have a middle school endorsement to teach math. So I would say that any grade level six seven or eight if they are if they have that endorsement to teach mathematics that they should be included as well. Well, what I would say to that is is since we're talking about I'm not saying I disagree with it and as we talked the other

night, uh, and I mentioned to Jennifer that a, uh, review of the rules. There may be some other things that we need to review about of of another teacher that's going to be talking to us in a minute, which is more of a rules thing. >> She couldn't get a K. >> Okay. >> Maybe could update it that time. But right now we has been specifically approached by a teacher and we need to make a decision on that and Mr. Atwoods brought up another teacher in the same circumstance. So just depending upon how if someone wants to make a motion how that's worded that is how that would be decided. I make a motion at this time to add K8 to our hard staff and I think that should carry into with it being a

K8 it's going to have this deal and >> I won't at all. >> You've done something a little bit different here. >> No. >> Yeah. >> I'm riding the same room. >> That would that would cover the sixth graders. >> Yeah. You change your motion change anytime. >> Yeah. The motion would change the rules. >> No, it would. >> I'm adding the K8, >> which would change the rules. >> Exactly. >> And would add all of them. >> No. >> Yeah. Well, then you might want to re rethink your motion. >> You need to You need to look at your paperwork. >> Oh, I said K through eight. >> Okay. Clint, look at that right quick and see if what what Dr. Satderfield has gave us >> is a 6 through eight which are the

ones we're going for >> which we're already going and then you have a 1 through eight >> but this one >> there's only two with K through eight >> there's elementary 1 through eight >> it says 1 through eight I see K through eight >> this motion was K through eight so I I see what he's saying now it was specific >> K through 8 is the oldest >> thing out there >> okay >> I'm saying K through eight >> okay I got you I am. >> So, it's not going to change. >> And it only takes in two people. >> Okay. I second the motion. >> Let me let me ask. So, what if a teacher's got a K6 and she's teaching eight? >> It's K8. >> That's not the motion. >> It's K8.

>> Okay. >> The motion on the floor is K8. Period. >> Has been seconded. >> And we have a motion and it's been seconded. That's the motion before the board right now. >> Discussion. sitting at home eating pizza with my husband. [laughter] >> K6 don't get us into middle school. >> So, >> six is middle school here. >> It's only middle. It's K6. You just heard her about the endorsement differences between sixth grade. >> I may not hate it cuz I teachers, but >> and you can get a and a K6. >> Yeah. >> So, our right now is 68. Okay. So, we're trying to cover the older batch going to eight. The K8 covers it going up there. >> What in my opinion it's seven and eight, >> right? >> Because those are more

specialized degrees. >> The plan document. >> I know >> says middle school. >> I know. >> Well, remember we will be looking at revising the rules. So, that needs to be corrected. >> Yeah. And I and I said something to Jennifer Tuesday night about that. That would be a one of the great discussion items or on our agenda for our retreat. >> And I got you're probably going to have a lot of updating of things to do is as she's been going through things and stuff and and noticing things and stuff. >> May I also ask is this uh retroactive or going forward or both? I think I don't want to speak [clears throat] but I think he's grandfathering thinking that this would be for for beginning of last school year >> which would be

the bonus >> being paid >> which would be >> 2425 >> right probably couldn't get paid tomorrow but >> that's okay >> I don't know I know a girl [laughter] >> I don't mind giving Crystal and I owe you >> all right guys any other discussion No discussion, comments. So, here's the motion. Let me restate it so we all know what we're doing. We have a motion on the floor to change our our current uh uh what's it called? the strategic >> strategic compensation plan for beginning last school year to uh uh include anyone that's that teaches one of our hardest staff middle school positions uh that has a K8 endorsement and a 68 endorsement. They would have to go together because we're already paying the 680. >> You know what I'm saying? >> Okay.

So they would both have to you'd have to have one or the other. >> Okay. And Mr. Wood, did I if I stated that right, is that your second? >> Yes. Who made the motion? I'm sorry. >> Robbie Mr. >> Any other discussion? [snorts] All in favor, please say I. >> I. >> Any opposed, please say no. Does pass unanimously. All right. Next on our agenda, we're going to go actually I'm going to elevate Miss Gan above Jenna mainly because Miss Goan's is the same thing. It's a rules uh uh thing that we're going to be talking about. And since we've already been talking about rules, it makes sense just to go ahead and do them both together. So for any members of the board that may not know, this is April Goan. She's taught

in our school system for many, many, many years. Uh she was an uh special ed assistant back when I was principal of the middle school. U and uh so you drove you drove Flintstone car in school, too. >> I did. [laughter] Telling the kids, I had your mom or I had your dad. I feel old. >> She's not as old as >> [laughter] >> I had great fun back in those days kicking on Tyra and April and a lot of others. And so, Miss Scia, would you please tell us uh your situation? >> Yes, sir. Well, I want to thank you all for giving me the opportunity to be here tonight and to speak and um talk to you about my points. Um, [clears throat] so I I'm here respectfully to request your consideration of

a PR-rated hard to staff bonus for the seven out of nine months um of the 2425 school year that I served as a certified special education teacher. Um, at the start of that year, I began as an educational assistant. Uh during that time I was actively working to reactivate my Tennessee State um teaching license by preparing to pass the practice exam that was required for that. Um while serving as an EA and let me say I was very excited that Dr. Satderfel gave me the opportunity to be hired in as an educational assistant promising to eventually get my certification. Um I had my own classroom. it it felt great. I started working with my students. I just didn't have above case load and I wasn't quite official yet. Um until September 30th, that's when I

was hired in as um a certified teacher. Um, I carried the full responsibilities of a licensed special educator, managing case loads, writing IEPs, conducting assessments, supporting academic and behavioral needs, collaborating with general education teachers, and maintaining open communication with families. I stepped fully into the position our students and district urgently needed at that time. The hard to staff bonus exists uh because special education is one of the most challenging areas to fill and retain educators. I appreciate that the district offers this incentive to recognize the importance of the work. I am respectfully asking the board to consider awarding the um pro-rated bonus that would reflect the seven months that I served in as a licensed special education teacher. Um and this request um simply isn't about the compensation. It's acknowledging the responsibilities taken on and

the commit the commitment demonstrated in the work done on behalf of our students in our district. Um, I just ask for you to consider this. Um, it being prrated award would honor the intended purpose of the heart to staff incentive and recognize the service I provided during the 2425 school year. So, I thank you for your time and so I'm here today just to ask about that. And like you said, there would be some rules that would have to be changed. I understand that. Um, >> but I thought I would give it a shot. >> Anybody have any questions for Miss Go? >> Okay. The the rule that she's talking about in our compensation plan, it states that you have to be a licensed teacher within the first 20 days of school. In other words,

the first month of school. And uh, she was she got her practice near the end of September. Is that right? What was that date? >> Uh yes sir. It was I believe it was around the 26th. So then my >> exactly it was >> it was okay. Good. [laughter] Um so then I rolled right into the certified teaching position on September 30th. >> So that that's the rule that we're she just she didn't make the first 20 days of the school year, but for the majority of the school year, she was a a certified special ed teacher. It was a total of seven out seven out of the nine months is what it >> Okay. Anybody have any questions for Miss >> Thank you. >> I believe this is another thing that Miss Cochran is

going to have to >> Well, she sit down. >> She was next who I was going to call >> to sit down with us and look at it. Uh, I don't think this board has ever had anybody walk in here and say, "Can you prorate something?" >> They've always said, "Give me everything." [laughter] >> You know, so >> that's a good point. I I have to respect that. Um, and on the other side of it is, you know, she worked for something to better us. Mhm. >> So, I can understand the pro rating. I mean, that's that's a very good uh pinpoint for her. I I I'm like her way of thought instead of walking in saying, "I want everything." [laughter] >> That's right. >> So, it's the first one that had said, "Give me

give me a come true." >> It is. So, uh let me Yeah, we're talking about you. [laughter] I I think he was pointing to the matrix. [laughter] >> No, I I mean, we all like to joke and cut up, but this that's >> really where I I stand with it. I'm I I thank her for having that kind of respect for the board. >> Um >> I I think it's great that she came up with something that we had that nobody thought about. >> And that's what I was talking about with >> Miss Catherine. That's something that we need to look into. I mean, if somebody's working to better our education, then we need to be taking care of them, even if it's not at the first of the year. You know what I'm saying?

>> But that's my opinion, guys. I'm sorry. >> Okay. I'd like to go now to Miss C and let her >> I didn't mean to cut you off. >> Then we'll be able to ask questions and have as much discussion as as anybody wants. >> Well, this is definitely unchartered waters for us. Um, like Mr. at what I've always thought it was a fair request for the prorating definitely going to have to be some rule changes um and it may incentivize other people in the future to want to do the same thing. So say it's definitely going to be a rule change that we look at >> when we start revising this plan. >> Right. I think the to me the one of the best things about it is the incentive for someone who may

be teaching currently but yet wants to uh get a passive practice to get into one of our hardest staff positions like a math teacher or or a ELA teacher or a special ed teacher which I guarantee is very hard to staff and I met Miss Lurch could >> Oh Yes. >> I was like, >> I thought you admonishing. >> I know. I was like, wait, [laughter] >> you still ain't done something right now? >> You're good. You're good. >> Miss I got this. >> Do you have anything you'd like to say? Is our Does everybody know Miss Lur? She's our director of special education. >> No. Um, I would just like to say that it is um extremely difficult to find special education teachers. um if not impossible uh because I know that there has

been um well just nobody applies for them. That that's just the bottom line. Um we were very fortunate to get Miss Gosher and her promising and fulfilling her promise of going back and and reinstating her license. Uh because she had had a license in the past, she had just let it lapse because she wasn't teaching. Um, and so that was um, and matter of fact, I think she was the only person we interviewed, you know, because that's just how the position is. It is it is extremely difficult to find special education teachers. And when you find them, you want to grab hold of them and you want to keep them. And I have been very fortunate um, with my special ed staff because I've only had one teacher to leave in the five years that

I've been supervisor. So, um I'm very thankful for the work that they do. I'm very thankful for Miss Goan, uh because the moment that she became a teacher, she had her own case load. Um she did everything that a special education teacher would do. She had all the responsibilities. So, I believe that um you know, her request is a fair request. >> You don't usually get one with experience, do you? >> No, usually do not. Usually do not. So um and I was thankful for that as well because um she had taught like I said before. So um I was very very lucky. >> Okay. >> Miss Miss Coffin, did you get through? >> Okay. All right. Discussion. Okay. Motions. I make motion to approval. >> Yeah, approval. >> Okay, >> I have a motion

on the floor, if I mistake this correctly, >> to approve. [laughter] I have a motion on the floor to approve Miss April Goan's request that her that the hard to staff bonus be prrated from last year uh and and award her whatever compensation it is for that time period. >> 180 have a second by Mr. Border. Any other discussion? It's not just hard to >> Well, the bonus whatever bonus she would have earned would be >> we're talking about just hard. Yeah. >> Okay. >> Could she have received a school bonus? Is that a discussion? >> No. It's just the hard to staff is what it sounds like we're talking about. >> That's all the motion. >> That's all she asked. That's all she aims for to staff. >> Right. Correct. And that's what the

motion states and with his second >> and then Angie and I was talking about what's the denominator, you know, because we work on a 200 day contract. >> You know, all this teachers get paid for 200 days. >> So the 200, >> right? >> Well, we'll let y'all work out the >> Jennifer, you good? Yeah, she just needs to know. She just needs to know. She just needs to know the numbers for you, >> right? >> Because I don't know. I sure is. Is >> she missing out on a school bonus? >> Yeah. >> If I don't know if I can speak, >> but being special ed, um, being in the special education field, I guess it's a little different for us when it comes to test scores and things. We basically go in and

say that we think that a certain grade's going to do instant that kind of work next year. >> Speak ty. [laughter] >> No, I think there's certain >> asking if you want this if you're asking for the schoolwide bonus as well is what they're asking. >> I mean, if it's available I didn't know if it was available to me. Like I thought that that was for regular or general education teachers. >> It's available for every teacher. There's a certain portion of the schoolwide of well the schoolwide bonus is for everyone then there's certain parts of the bonus that go to c to c subject matter >> math ELA things like that so >> I wasn't clear on the schoolide >> it's the schoolwide that we're asking about >> the the schoolwide >> I made a

motion for hard to staff because That's what she asked for, right? That's right. >> And I'm trying to support her, not the schoolwide. I'm sorry. Now, if y'all voted down, then y'all can redo it. But no, I understand what you're saying. I'm doing what she asked for it. >> Okay. Well, we could we could discuss that in a moment if somebody wants to. Right now, we have a motion on the floor and a second to award Miss Goan the uh uh heart of staff uh pr-rated money that that she would receive. Discussion. All in favor, please say I. >> I. [clears throat] Who second it? >> Any nos, please say no. Does pass unanimously. Are we through with that? >> It passed. I mean, well, >> we did what she asked. >> Yeah, I only

I never thought of that. Miss Gosher might have should have done some more dig. [laughter] >> I I wasn't clear about the whole pro um strategic compensation plan because um I didn't even realize the hardest of staff bonus was part of that. >> Yeah. Did was she >> I was just a little confused. >> Was she in that position from the beginning of the school year? >> You were like a substitute like you answer. >> She was an EA a pair professional from from the beginning of school until the September the 30th when her license got renewed. what duties change from the beginning of school to the time that she >> as that at that point she had her own classroom. >> So the difference was is that she was working under Miss Brown and

Miss Hicks >> and um they were basically giving her the information and she was running like an intervention group but under their supervision and she didn't have any she wasn't writing any IEPs, did not have a case load. Did somebody else write her IEPs or when she started in September, did she write her own IP? >> When she started in September, that's when she >> she picked up the case, right? >> Yes, she did. She got her own case load. So, that was waiting for you. [laughter] >> I had the opportunity students like go ahead and work with my students. >> I think one of the things might be asking and if I'm wrong, was anyone in the classroom with her? She said she had her own classroom. >> Well, she had her own classroom

after she became a teacher, but was she physically like was she giving this I guess like Amy and Terara were probably supporting her and and mentoring her, but was she doing a different journey after she got her license than before? Like other than her IEPs, right? Well, at that point, she was in charge of the instruction that she gave her special ed her special ed students before Tara and Amy were telling her what to do with the kids. So that's kind of the the switch for >> mentoring like a new teacher would >> and it was kind of like I had my own classroom from the beginning. I just didn't pull students into that classroom. >> She was a class of record at the end of the year. She teacher of record until she teach

>> so kids too. [laughter] She went she went from being a if I understand it right she went from being a special education aid on on September 29th to a spe to the teacher of record on September 30th >> but I was in a campus assigned position which is part of the rules of >> but she was in the classroom with Tara and Amy she didn't Yes until she became a teacher to a different classroom after she got >> Right. Exactly. And at that point, that is when she was responsible for the um intervention strategies and instruction and everything for the students on her case load. >> Does that answer your question? >> That answer your question? >> Yes. It's like splitting hairs, >> you might have somebody driving trailer, >> but they may not

have a CD or a license, >> right? Are you through this book? >> Kind of in thought process. >> Okay. >> Does anybody else have something they want to say? >> No, I kind of see what you're getting at. >> We've already passed the first motion. This is something different. >> But I I see what you're talking about. We had an experienced teacher who was in doing her job. Happened to be as a teachers agent just because she had informed Dr. sat field and everybody that she was working on her practice which didn't mean we never know when you're going to pass it but she got it sounds like about as quick as she could and and then became teacher of record and that kind of stuff is >> that's kind of what I'm getting

at >> what would she have qualified for her school what if she had if she had been teacher of record from the beginning of the year 12 $1300 something like Well, but you could also be the same thing. >> Proate. I mean, that's what I think. I just >> That's not what I thought you was going. >> That is That is what I'm >> That's what I That's I thought that was what you were going down. >> I mean, I just I think that you did something that we needed as a school system and you could have stayed in the position that you were How long were you into the positions before? How long were you? >> What? Last year. >> Yeah, >> it's about 2 months. >> Yeah. >> As an educational assistant. >>

I mean, you could easily have kept that and had a job and but you know, took one for the team. >> Yes. Absolutely. >> Which she intended to do from the beginning. >> Yeah. >> And I mean, most of that practice is no joke. I mean, it's hard. My reading was >> and so you taught kids and I mean people help you but that's still something you have to do on your own studied and passed your practice. >> Yes ma'am. So >> I'll make a motion that we prorate and give her her school bonus as well. >> Okay. We have a motion on the floor from Miss Bod >> that in addition to prorating the hard part of staff that we do the same with the uh schoolwide bonus which from the way I understand

listening to everybody tonight she didn't even know she qualified for >> to begin with. >> Well, that's our job to protect our employees as well as you know. >> Yeah, I agree. >> Proate the schools. >> That's the motion. Yes. >> And that's made by voting. >> Yes. I'll second. >> Have a second by Miss Petty. >> Any other discussion? >> All in favor, please say I. I. >> Any oppose, please say no. >> Tell me Christmas don't come around. [laughter] >> All right, >> Miss Catherine. >> And before anything said yes, I did teach both she and Adam. >> [laughter] >> JUST TO CLARIFY BEFORE, get ahead of the >> We know you're a dinosaur. [laughter] >> I called her. So, what does that make you? [laughter] >> All right, Miss Cer. >> Um,

I'm here tonight. I first want to say thank you for taking the time to listen to my case. Um I'm here tonight to ask for a little bit of grace. Um I we had a life changing um lifealtering moment that happened for us last year. Um therefore being out and having to be with Adam and being his caretaker, that created um a little issue with our policy first, our bonus compensation. Um, so I came back to work as quick as I could, but unfortunately, um, that put me 16 days past approved FMLA leave. And if you don't know, FMLA only covers 60 days of approved leave regardless of any situation. Um, past that, I miss an additional 16 days. So policy states that uh, per board policy that um, 10 days is allowed for your

jersey year bonus. I missed a six option additional days past that bonus. Um so I'm here tonight to ask for a little bit of grace and um so I can receive my bonus. >> And the reason I had the other two first is that they were more of a rules thing uh which is Jenna's case. Anybody have any questions for Jim? Okay. Discussion. I'm going to speak my piece on this and it's not going to be what I believe. >> Okay. >> Or what I It's going to be what I believe, not what I know should be done. Uh, Miss Catherine, Mr. days. Uh, in my opinion, for one of the best men I've ever known. And, uh, she did it for her husband. She said she was a caretaker. I think he was the

caretaker. I'll be honest with you. Uh, but I cannot hold a family accountable for standing together. There's so many split families nowadays that u they wouldn't take care of each other and she did it. Uh, I know we've opened Pandora's box last year and uh I voted against all of it. Uh, this one right here is uh totally different and I feel she deserves it and that's my opinion. Okay. Other discussion are we done? >> Richard, you look like you want to but don't want to. So, >> no. I I mean, I agree. I don't I don't really I don't think there should be any question to it or discussion to it. Honestly, I think she deserves >> Well, it's not a matter of discussing about that. It's just >> Well, I mean, we know

about this situation. I don't know what y'all discussed on Tuesday, so I'm just trying to >> She actually did come Tuesday. We didn't discuss she. Yeah, we didn't discuss this Tuesday. >> I wasn't sure how much, >> especially since it didn't involve rooms. We did discuss the other two because they were rule differences. >> Okay. >> Since Jenna's watching and and she >> I fully support her appeal for the compensation. >> Yeah. Mr. K, may I also assert >> is what's important here is that we have a plan document. We have the rules and and I brought Angie in case any questions came before us tonight. Angie will tell you when the controller comes in here and they do an audit and they do an annual audit, the first thing they're going to do is

they're going to look at everybody's salary. That's the first thing they're going to do. That's where 85% of your budget is is it's tied up in salaries. So they're going to they're going to go through every salary with a fine tooth comb. What they're going to do is they're going to take this plan document. They're going to look at it. They're going to be sure you followed it. That's why when we're outside of the plan document, then we have to have board approval and have to have that reflected in minutes in order to get through an audit. Right, Agent? >> Correct. >> Okay. So, that's that's why this is before you as a board is because you're the only ones that can set salaries. The way I have stated that is that >> telecom call

me. [laughter] You take you take you take care of that tonight. Yeah. >> By your vote and that being recorded. >> We have a set of rules that this board has passed. Dr. Saddale and and Miss Coffford, they don't have the authority to change those rules. Only the board of education can do that. And we have done that in two cases already tonight. So that the controller will have no issue with it because the correct people had changed the rules. And should we do that again, they won't have any conflict with it because the board of education would have changed it again if that's the way the board votes. >> Does our motion need to in like we're just basically making a motion to just change the rules? >> No, we're not judging any rules.

We're making We're making a motion to give Miss Catherine >> I'm making a motion to give Miss Catherine her bonus from last school year. >> That's the motion I'm making right there. >> And we don't have to negate anything. >> There's no rules or anything. Look, >> she's made an appeal. So, we just >> Here's the way I look at Jim. >> I want to cover. >> If you change, [laughter] you can't change the number of days enough that you won't have somebody be one or two or four or five over. >> Correct. Yes. >> You've set them What are they now? 10. Mhm. >> You can set them to 15 and think we covered there going to be somebody coming in with 16. >> We're just making the >> exact. So it's an exception.

That's why I said it was different from the first two as to as to general and it's totally different than most. >> Right. >> Rob made situation. >> I made the motion. I have a motion on the floor to approve uh Miss Catherine's request to get her schoolwide office and I have a second from Miss B. Any other discussion? Yes. >> Yes, sir. >> I don't have one problem with this. I think we should do this. Last year, we had one come in and we mentioned last night about Miss Huff. She was in an automobile accident. Had two bereavements in her family. If I'm not correct, >> if we do this one, which I'm in support of, I think we need to go back and take care of that one also. >> Well, that would

have been two years ago. I don't know. A controller may have problem with something that was two years old, >> but otherwise all right's right and wrong. >> I I understand your point. >> Who was it? They had a car wreck. >> Yeah. >> But again, we have a motion and a second on the floor. We need to dispose of that and then we can discuss whatever else after that uh we want to. So, the the motion is that we uh award Miss Catherine her her bonus and we have a second. Any other discussion? All in favor, please say I. >> I. [clears throat] >> Any oppose, please say no. Does pass unanimously. Okay. Now, is there any other discussion? >> I want to discuss that. Okay. >> For the simple fact of we're trying

to we're going to do what's right. I watched that lady come in when she was in a neck racing crutches and and like I said, I I didn't finish the year over there and I didn't know who the lady was, but they told me what had happened. Then she comes up for appeal and we find out she had two different bereavements after that car incident. If we're going to do this one, we ought to do that one. >> That would have been for >> like two years. >> Yeah. But otherwise, once again, I'm I'm trying to do the right thing. >> I don't know. Danger, would that cause a controller? >> No. >> Okay. >> May I May I add? >> It's a is a is a book. It's a It's a fiscal year that's

already been closed. >> That's what I'm saying. That's why I figure it could be a problem. >> And I would like if he's interested and it's not an agenda item on the agenda tonight, right? My advice would be for us to talk to our attorney and find out what we what options we do have. [snorts] >> I think it's just you see what I'm saying? >> I understand, but like I said, I mean, we need to look into it. >> Okay. U anyone else want to look into it? >> I mean, if it's true, I don't remember. >> I don't remember enough about it. >> I don't remember it. >> Was you on the board then? >> Yes. Yeah, she had >> and you've been on the board. >> So, it had to be last

year. >> The same same time this time. >> Yeah, it would have been but see and just like these they're talking about the money from last school year, not this school year, which puts it back into Clint. This was November 22nd, 24. Uh >> this is strategic compensation appeal request. It's up in regular November yesterday. Yesterday the board had its three November board meeting. Your bill to receive your 23 24 school bonus >> uh dues exceeding 10 days accident was denied. >> But she did not come in here. >> She said it it wasn't appealed before the board. >> I know, but she didn't physically come in here. >> No, I think he was saying he saw her at the school. >> I I didn't ask that. She >> She sent y'all or wrote something.

I know, but she physically did not come in here because I don't remember none of that. I know. I remember the ones last year that appealed. >> Yeah, we had some come, but they always >> But she did not appeal. She did not come in here and appeal it. >> She did it in writing. >> Yeah, she did not come in there. >> But she might not have been here in person. >> Correct. >> I mean, we discussed it. There was a a reason why we didn't I don't >> I think explain why. >> Yeah. I mean, I have to go back and like refresh myself. >> It's all kind of >> different to me because I remember everybody that came in here last year in a field. You know what I'm saying? >> And

I don't know anything about the >> That's what I'm trying to gauge is do we have more than one member that wants to go back and look at this? >> But I just don't >> I think Miss Williams might add the the why behind that. Under FMLA law, you have to be employed for a full year to be eligible and she was a first year teacher. Okay. Therefore, she didn't qualify. >> Now, now that that brings up a lot of Yes, I I remember that. Now, I do remember that coming up. >> I remember that now. >> Do we want to look into this further? >> Chris does. Rachel, yes or no? >> Um, >> I'm not trying to put you under the gun. I go first. No. >> Yes. I voted yes for it

before. >> You never voted on this before? >> No. Never been voted on. >> We did not. We We didn't make a We didn't >> We didn't make a motion for it. >> So, but you can speak every way you want. >> Well, I don't know the whole situation. I'm pleading the fifth there. >> Do you want Do you want He's asking you a question. I'm just asking, do you want to uh >> go on a flight? >> We we can we can study it and bring it back to the board. >> Okay, >> sure. >> That's good. That's good. That that that's the best way to do it. >> Jennifer and Dr. Satfield will look into this, go back to the particulars and stuff and uh bring it back next month. >> [cough and

clears throat] >> Britney Johnson Tuesday night see her here tonight. So >> yeah, I think the key is for her and we all have to make a decision at some point is she wants to use the football facility for a very large event and then we're concerned about the damage to >> I think Rob said it best that Kyle Gregory needs to be involved in the decision and then I said that Jennifer and Jay and Kyle and whoever else needs to be in on that. Uh look into it and bring us and be prepared to bring us some type of recommendation. Uh >> and is that I guess I'm confused about why this is a board issue instead >> because we own this football field >> your facilities. We're the we're in order in order

to use our facilities, you have to make application. There's forms and stuff and it's just like a field trip request involved. >> They would have to some get more. >> Is it up to mission? >> Yeah. But I mean like if somebody wanted to use the elementary school for something or whatever, would that come before us? >> Uh usually we let the principal doing stuff, but this is so the way she described that >> that event. I mean, >> oh because there's an okay I'm just trying to >> she's talking about >> I'm also a chamber community schooling >> when she was talking Yeah, she was talking about 15 20 people >> fall under that >> I'm sitting on the field at $10,000 a pop that are sponsors. That makes me think this thing's going

to be major. >> I mean I'm $10,000 that it needs to go >> and I I just on my end to feel comfortable about it need like some details. >> What what is she asking? When is she asking to get on the field? >> May second. >> But yes, but I mean she didn't have any information like she I think >> Friday and Saturday. It' be Friday and Saturday music festival so called. >> Here's the way I look at it. That's the job of the committee that I've appointed >> to get those answers. Jennifer J. Brown. >> Yeah. would come back and report to us and whoever Kyle and whoever else they put on [laughter] but they would come back with >> my name was Dennis and not okay because that just would make me

feel a little more >> and I think the main concern there was graduation's like two weeks [clears throat] later and so you'd have to we'd have to be assured that it wouldn't >> and construction >> there's going to be construction >> I brought that up to her there's going to be construction >> I told her that there was going to probably We're going to be moving going on and that that could impact her >> and it's the end of the testing window. So like if you all have to do something >> I mean I don't know what >> okay just a little >> the Rachel here's what the board the chamber needs know is that obviously the the concern of of of the board is potential damage to the football field itself. especially with graduation

being two weeks later. I mentioned to her that more than likely, because we had voted on it, I couldn't say we was going to do it. So, I said more than likely there's going to be a construction project going on down there on the old fieldhouse and that ingress and egress up and down through there and stuff may not be as easy as it is right now. And she I just figured she needed to know that, >> you know. >> Yeah. Nobody said it was against anything or anything. I just I thought she needed to know that that that's a distinct possibility cuz I couldn't tell her it was because like I said, we had voted on anything. >> Yeah. I believe there were to be any sort of issues with the field per se

that there will be measures taken to fix it. >> See that? But [laughter] here's the thing. measures taken to fix it doesn't necessarily mean that it's going to be done by graduation. >> If it was if graduation was two months later, that's different. But if if made if damage is done and then they got to get bids from a landscaping company to come in replant grass to do this and that, it hard to get that done in two weeks. >> But what if there was no damage done? >> Well, you don't know. I >> I know it's a risk. >> You got you got to roll the I mean rolling the dice. >> And again, I'm not saying negatively. I'm just bringing up potential issues. >> We don't have we don't have enough information. >>

Agree. >> That's why we got a committee that's going to look into this and report back to us. >> May May I add, I think your biggest challenge will be if you say we we'll let them use the field and then the coach is making the decision and he says it's too wet. We're we're going to run it up. >> I agree. And then and then the chamber's gonna say, "I've got this event. I've got this country music star. Where am I?" >> I think that's an issue. >> And that's so we can't predict the weather. >> So when so when we have the right to say, you know, no, you're going to damage the facility and they don't have a place to go. That's the rock and the hard place. >> Well, I think

Rachel, I think you definitely need We don't know about rain. It could rain all day. >> I agree. >> She needs to have a plan B or the chamber needs to have This is a chamber event. chamber needs to have a plan B just for the what if we paid we paid Kyle and him to take care of that field and I'm not going to go in there and destroy that field and say y'all clean up. >> You know what I'm saying? >> And they're not even it's going to be their No, not that they're going to >> but it's going to be their call in my opinion. I mean >> I also wonder too like I mean it looks like the date is making it set up. I mean, I don't know if we

did it after graduation, would that not be an easier decision on our part? >> If you voluntarily feel up, it's better to carry >> the date is not changing. >> I can tell that there's no way. [cough] >> Yeah. >> When the best day for want to use the football, >> right? Exactly. That's my point. Like that >> just from a timing aspect with graduation. >> Graduation and that's usually a rainy season and >> we have to have a plan B in case it rains on graduation, >> you know. We we got to often obviously we would expect someone else to have one also. >> I love the idea of it. I just >> I love that. >> I think that's great. >> It's a big ask. >> All right. Anything else to come before

the board tonight? I need to make a motion. >> Well, first wish everybody a happy Thanksgiving. >> So, this is tabled tabled for I need to respond to the >> We're not tableing anything. She's supposed to come back to us. She knows that. She knows that >> she's sick. >> I'm just saying we appointed a committee to look into it and everything. There's no way we're going to be promoted until the committee comes back to us. Right. >> Right. >> We we told her that the way I took it, she was making us aware of of a future request >> and we're working on it. >> Did I say that right? >> Yes. >> Mr. Wood. I am making a motion right now that I want to say coach is the biggest stud I've ever

seen. Anybody that can wear polkadotted SOCKS [laughter] a school board. >> He is a stud. [laughter] My wife bought ME THESE SOCKS BEFORE the crack of dawn. [laughter] I don't know what >> I you've given me an inspiration. >> You don't even know what color THEY [laughter] >> but you've given me an inspiration that you might want to be one of the speakers at Dr. SATFIELD'S [laughter] and reiterate to the crowd the studiness of Dr. [laughter] Clint. I ain't seen anything, but I seen them when I first saw. I didn't even know. >> You have been quiet with your words and with your >> Okay, I'll make a motion. We >> journed. >> There we go. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. [laughter] >> Have a good Thanksgiving.
