We welcome everyone to this May 4th, 2026 meeting of the course can board of trustees. This is a regular board meeting and all items that will be discussed have been duly posted. While this is a meeting in public, it's not a meeting of the public. The board's role is to set goals, approve personnel budgets, make policy, and provide oversight. We are not here to manage or solve individual problems. Management is the responsibility of the superintendent. As a board, we believe we must educate every child, provide every child the greatest opportunity to learn, maintain a safe and secure environment mentally, physically, emotionally, and academically. These are our core values. We appreciate your interest in the student. We have a quorum. Everyone's here. So, the next thing is uh pledges. >> Okay. The our pledges will be

led by our 2026 validictorian Abigail Berg and our saludiatoran Lana Goberg to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> And now to the Texas. >> I flag. I pledge algiance to the Texas. One state under God, one and indivisible. >> Yes. >> All right. If you'll pray with me. Lord, thank you for this day. Thank you for this time for us to gather and make decisions that are best for our students and our community. Thank you for the time before this meeting that we had to honor uh educators who had devoted a career to the students uh in this district and others. Lord, please give us all the strength to to uh take note

of it and uh try to lead the same path throughout our careers and do it the right way. Lord, thank you for the leadership in this room. Lord, please give us all the strength to remember you in every decision we make. It's in your son Jesus Christ's name we pray. Amen. >> Amen. >> Mayor, do we have any guests? >> Thank you. The next thing is recognition of the validator saludiatoran. Excuse me. >> It is my honor to recognize our valadictorian Abigail Berg and our saludiatoran Lana Gober to their outstanding academic achievement, dedication, and perseverance. Their commitment to excellent has set a high standard and serves as an inspiration to all their classmates in our entire district. We celebrate their success and look forward to the great things they will accomplish in the future. Yes.

>> All right. The next thing is a presentation of the summer school. Dr. Farmer, Dr. Harl. >> Good evening, President Farmer, Miss How, and members of the board. I'm going to just quickly go over our plans for summer school this summer. Um the weeks you can see on the dates. So June 2nd through June 4th is for elementary. The secondary students will actually start on June 1st. Um and then we will run through June 17th. As every year, breakfast and lunch will be provided. Summer school is for students who um are below the 90th or 90th percent of attendance to receive attendance credit are also for failures in order to receive credit that way. Um, additionally, we used to limit it to just those populations. However, for this year, I have allowed principles at their

discretion to invite other students who may need additional help during the summer but don't fall into those two categories. These are our projected attendance um by campus. So, you can see that um it's a little evenly distributed between Sam Voy, Carol Navo, Fannon, and then we have Collins middle school and high school. And then our focus this summer, we will have a heavy math and reading focus at all levels. Um, one other change, in the past, we did not have kindergarten students unless they were EBS attend summer school. So, there's a separate EB summer school that we just invite for our pre-K and kinder students. However, this summer we are going to have a couple of classes of kindergarten students that are none students to catch up and close gaps over the summer as well.

And we have had um great response from that. And um just lastly, Dr. Hall and I both are um kind of on the same page about wanting to make our summer learning an engaging experience for our students. Um we really don't want it just kids sitting at desk with their heads in the book. So, the teachers have worked really hard to plan engaging experiences and they're even connecting some science-based things um into math, into reading and building that background knowledge and that vocabulary. And so, we're excited about the fun learning that's going to happen at summer school this year. Does anybody have any questions? Nope. Okay, that's it. >> Thank you. Uh the next thing is a gift and talented Dr. Carl. Good evening, Miss How, Mr. Farmer, members of the board. Um, I'm going

to go over quickly some of the things for GT, but then we also have some of our wonderful students, our GT students that wanted to share some of their projects that they are presenting actually this week uh at Drain and then next week at uh the Collins Intermediate. So starting off we have 12% of our GT students are 12% of our students are GT and then you guys can see the breakdown that by that with the numbers um the test that we do use is the INGAT um the GT showcases we do that every uh fall and then also every spring. Right now at the high school the number of GT students enrolled in our AP and dual credit classes is 174 of our students. And then at the um the design of the program

at the elementary level, first through fourth is a half day at Fannon. Uh fifth, sixth on campus. And then seventh and eighth grade, we do have the GT STEM classes. And we also have the creative writing class that was added this year. Um and then at the 9th through 12th grade, we do offer the preap, AP, CTE electives, and dual credit. So do you guys have any questions about that? >> I do have a question. So, in um at the high school level, the 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th, there's the you said pre-AP, AP. Um is there anything else in in those classes that are geared towards GT students or or are any student who takes AP doing the same thing that the GTP class would have? >> Well, we don't want to um add

to the workload of the student, but at the same time too, I think I do understand your question and asking that the rigor piece of it. Is that what you're Is that what you're asking? Um, and so I we are taking a a different look at it for next year. Um, and re-evaluating to see how is that how does that look different for a GT student at the AP level? um and even in our dual credit classes, but it would be more so at our AP level, especially within because really our students are going to be served through our ELA classes um because that's where our teachers are certified for the GT um service for those kids. So, we're really looking to see how through our English classes are we going to be servicing those

students in a different way. Um, we do have I know at the AP and the dual credit level those are a more rigorous class. Then asking ourselves too to what extent does that look for a GT student. That will be a different evaluation that we're going and looking at this summer and I'll be able to get back with you after we've taken a better look at that. Um, but I can't tell you that that looks distinctly different. It looks a little different, but not distinctly different. Yes, ma'am. Do you guys have any other questions? Okay. Um I would like at this time uh Miss Simington and by the way our GT teachers if you give them a round of applause because they do work so hard with our kids. But this Miss Simington um and

has been the GT teacher for how how many years now? I know too many. Yeah. Come on up. Um and you guys want to describe your project? >> Yes. So, um, our project is called Mission 101. Um, it's kind of based on, um, so there's a diving man and he kidnaps the animals and a princess from the kingdom. You have to go save him. Um, and sure. >> Um, so there's a robot named Matt who tries to take over the kingdom, which starting out is he's trying to take the animals, but you have to go through and kill all these body guards so they don't um stop you while trying to destroy Mad. And basically, you had to go out and get all the keys and go through the whole level. It's kind of like

Mario if it had like way more levels. Um, but that's basically the story of our game. >> I'm kind of going to show youall um how to code the blocks in the game. So this first block you can see is um is kind of like a brick block and if you place it you can um go to the second thing and um it's kind of like just normal blocks that you can code with paint and there's different types of paint that you can put on it. Um there's um um another block's there's like at least like seven blocks. I'm not sure. Um there's a water block that you can go with the water. There's um an enemy block which is purple and it has um you can do it with kind of like any sort

of enemies that you want. Uh there's um a power up which if you put you can to get like an advantage like a jetpack or fireball. Um you can put it with diamonds power up or whatever. Um there's also um like danger like lava, fire, spikes, anything dangerous. Um there's a vault that you can kind of like pick up. You could fill that with like a crate or a chest. There's And then there's a lot kind of like coins or keys from doors or just to collect that you can go with a coin or a key. Um, and then there's the note which you can put with a sign and then you can go to the third Yeah, you can go to the third uh spot and you can click the sign um to configure

it and you can click add text and type whatever you want and then yeah that's basically it >> and then I will be showing you stuff as how to make boards boards start out as But you have to go to this how you code it for which key you want and then you want it to take away the key when you're done or you want to keep it for some. So this is a shoot. And if you don't think about that, you can unlock that door. And there's also stuff as the perspective use where if you step on that block, it'll do like a wide shot. There's changes perspective. There's also blocks that when you step on it, it'll change the volume of your game. And there's music blocks. There's um a variety of music

you can make, but when you step on it or jump or whatever, when you step on it, it'll change the music. So, if you're getting into a boss fight, jump on that and it'll make boss fight. So, I wanted to give you an opportunity to play the game that they actually made. Um, these are published, so anybody can play them anywhere. Um, you don't even have to have the account. You can play them on your phone if you just download and search up their game specifically is called Battle 101. But I did put some tags um CID GT CD and GT. So those three tags you can use it to look up any of our games and we've published a lot. So um I'm just going to pass these out to you real quick and

you can take a moment to play their game is very similar to Mario. It's really cool, guys. >> Idiots. It's kind of like Mario, but not >> Yeah. Mario >> N. Okay. Oh, we just power up. >> Okay, I have a question. Um, how long did it take you to program this game? >> I'm going to say probably um >> most of the semester, this is what we've worked on. They each week they would come in and I would teach them a new video because it's kind of overwhelming at first. They kind of dig a quick overview, but each block you have to code it correctly for your game actually work when you publish it. So there's a lot of checking and they would find themselves. >> They have works. So our kids kind of

get into situations because they got to keep >> pretty much the semester they have to come up with. >> I don't know. >> And they app. >> Okay. I have another question for them. >> Okay. So you two did this together. Okay. >> Oh, that was what I was going to ask is how Okay, so you kind of have to agree on things. Did y'all have a hard time doing that? >> Good. >> I'm very impressed. This is really nice. >> Come to the superintendent's office and give her like a practice. Tell me how to do this. Everybody, >> is there really a record for who's beaten the fastest? >> Mario and everybody on my ass. >> Okay, >> get the princess. >> Sorry, this is mine. Thank you. >> We'll appreciate it. And I'm

talking to the princess. >> How did you do that? >> Hello. >> The princess would not talk to >> That's cool. >> Sean, you have to give it back. >> Sean, it's time to stop. >> Uh this Thursday, um it's going to be at Dra. We're having presentation based on our video games. There's a few more groups there. So, yeah. fling things. >> Oh, this is the show hydraulics. services. This is the question, how could we develop and create a machine that moves an object from one point to another and what energy source power? To solve this problem, we designed and built a hydraulic from cardboard into the purpose of our machine was object from one location to another control. During the engineering design, Our demonstrated how could be could be transferred through a liquid

making it easier to lift and move. This is extremely hard and a long time. throughout the >> um so there's we use four syringes and two and they two and two of them are filled with water right now and if you push them this one it moves it up. >> Nice. that one. It moves this part forward. >> And then we also have this little thing. And you >> if you twist it, then it will make it go up. >> Very cool. >> You think I got a question. And you think you guys can um work on the elevator? >> There are elevators in the GT, but we didn't. >> We We aren't that high tech. >> Anything else besides water? >> We started off with air and we and but we tried out the

water today >> and it worked really nice. What was the hardest part about creating your crane? >> Probably having it move super smoothly. Good job. >> Great job. >> That's awesome. >> Oh, would y'all like to come to our presentation last week? >> Huh? >> Wednesday. >> Next Wednesday. Next 11. >> All right. >> You're good. Thank y'all. >> Uh the next thing is review the board planning calendar. Stephie, >> so this is an information item tonight, but this is our board uh planning calendar for the 2627 school year. I cannot believe that we are already there. Um but I worked on this calendar and we tried to align it to our calendar, our district calendar, so that it wouldn't interfere with any days off. So, if we had students here, um, but this will

give you guys uh this week to look at that and then on Monday, a week from tonight, we'll have another board meeting and we'll ask for approval. So, um, if there's anything that you guys see that we need to change, just let me know. Any questions for me? >> I changed May and then in October, um, we could have our team of eight training Do we think only one in January? >> I think December probably one because we'll only be in school about three weeks, but I think potentially we might need to add one in January. So, if if you guys want me to do that, Maril and I can look at that. The only thing is we have uh the MLK holiday, but we can work we'll try to work around that. >> What

about September for the fact that we'll be starting construction? >> Oh, sorry. Hang on. Let me look at September. So, our reasoning for September, let me pull up my calendar, was because of fall break. So, we have fall, we leave on the 28th for fall break. Um, but we could have a meeting on the 14th and the 21st if you want to if we want to add a second one. I feel all that construction started. the 11th and the 25th. January. Okay, we'll add to January 25th and I'll get you guys an updated when post board book tomorrow. We will now journ into close sessions per Texas government code section 551-01. Thanks everyone.
