We welcome everyone to this May 18th, 2026 meeting of the course board of trustees. This is a record board meeting of all items that will be discussed if they do be posted. While this is a meeting in public, it's not a meeting of the public. Board's role is to set goals, approve personnel and budgets, make policy, and provide oversight. We're not or solve individual problem superintendent. As a board, we believe that we must educate every child, provide every child the greatest opportunity to learn, maintain a safe and secure environment mentally, physically, emotally, and academically. These are core values. We appreciate your interest in the student society. We have a everyone's here. Is any forend? >> Oh, just skip that. It's not actually Next thing is Mr. Ken Reese on our >> Mr. President, board of
trustees and superintendent the south. Well over here our first GMP and we're going to get started here in a couple weeks and got a busy summer. So u I appreciate you guys meeting with us tonight to get this approved so we can get started. um the project. This is our uh it is a demo. We're going to be doing a lot of that, but it's also more than just a demo. There are 17 different trades that'll be working this summer. Um some of the major uh components include concrete, masonary work, interior wall installation, painting, plumbing, HBC, electrical work, roof drain rerouting, roof repairs, a quality level a subsur sub subsurface utility engineering investigation. I'll explain that in a minute. and the installation of two sets of stairs for emergency use. In addition, this project includes
creating a construction equipment yard and installing modular classrooms. So, let's take a look at what we got. So, um first is just a general overview of the high school and you can see the pinkish red highlighted areas there and that's where the demo will take place. Up top is the stairwells. And it's not just the stairwells, but we're actually going inside the classrooms 8 foot where we have to knock out walls. We have to take out the doors. We have to take lighting out, HBAC, plumbing. So, there's a lot of work. all the fixtures that's inside those um inside that 8ft area so we can create a corridor that we'll be using later when we build the CT to tie in. So a lot of work's got to take place there this summer. Then at
the bottom that's the kitchen and that is the canopy that's in paint there. The section of the canopy that we had to remove as well and that's for when we build the new kitchen. That's where we'll tie into that. Uh the next slide is just the architectural design of the stairs. It's just a portion of the first floor. Uh but it's a little bit shows the stairwell itself and then you can see all of the little numbers that are inside that corridor area that I was talking about the notes what we got to do in there as far as what we got to demo. We are going to build a wall that'll go from one end to the other. So east to west or west to east or left to right. Um that wall will
actually create the new classroom. We're tearing that for the station. The next slide is just uh the second floor. The exact same work is going to go on there as well. And then this slide right here is uh mainly to show you really emphasizes the the corridor that we'll actually build and construct. But what I wanted to show you is on the far right there, you can see the stairwell. That's where the stairwell rail is going on the east side or stairs going on the east side and we'll also have that on the west side. That's an emergency escape route in case we have an issue. Hopefully we won't. But that's prefab engineering steps and not just steps throwing up into the force. Uh they're steel and u fabricated pre-fabricated will have a they'll be
basically enclosed and at the bottom there'll be a door that stays locked. So the outside you can't enter. So that way we don't have to worry about things happen over the weekend or night what's going on. But they will open if you come down cuz they got a bush handle doorway where if we have an emergency we come up. So making sure those are safe and they're they're prop. >> Yes sir. >> Uh the reason for that is once we take those stairs off every one of those quarters dead end can't be. So that's why we got to build the a new corridor across there which allow any exit that way and stair new stairwells. They're temporary stairs. They'll be gone by. >> Thank you, John. So this is just a rooftop view of the
kitchen and I wanted to show you the the section of the canopy we'd be will be uh removing. So it's to the left there. Um, you can also see where some roof work is going to be taking place when we remove that canopy. So, we close it up, make sure there's no rain, wind, things like that to damage the uh the kitchen that we're currently using. We'll also do that same type work at the front where we take the stairwells out as well. So, a lot of roof work and we've got to reroute the the water drains as well. So that's pretty much what will take place uh inside the school. What I want to show you here is we're going to build our site logistics area. That area in yellow will be where we
have our material storage staging. Any equipment comes in, anything that we're going to use, that's the layout area. Also, there's parking there for our construction team. That way we kind we keep that separate. And we'll also put a fence completely all the way around the CT work area, material storage area where the construction workers will be parking. So that stays enclosed and is safe as well. And uh keep a lock on that. We'll also have our portable building inside that for our construction team. That's where we have a lot of our meetings and so forth. So a lot of work goes there. That'll stay for the entire 24. The next slide is in the center there. That's south of the teaching parking lot. That's where our modular classroom. It's one big giant classroom, but it's
divided up into six classrooms. Last last week, Shay, Brad, and myself, we went to Waco. That's where that classroom currently is. It's in their yard. Uh we walked it, looked at it. We made sure it was suitable for students. We checked to make sure it had plenty of insulation. So, it's air conditioners. We had lots of questions. Um we even plan to go back before they prepare to ship it to make sure it's right. So we just didn't want We understand learning needs to be uh in in the right environment. So we understand what that should look like. We walked that thoroughly. Um there's a picture of of how the they do have HBAC and heating units for each classroom. see them. They're attached. The electrical is pre-ran, but we will have to hook electric
up. So, we'll have to use electricians to do that. And then they don't have fire alarms. So, we'll install those as well. This is some process. So, on each end there'll be one end will have handicap accessible stairwell or stairway. On the other end, it's an exit as well. So, it looks like this. So, give you a general idea of what the classroom look like. Okay, this is that um subsurface utility engineering uh plan that we got to do. So you see in red there pretty much covers all the area where we're going to be working this summer and more even the a building where that's going to be built. This is so they have four types of utility surveys that you can do from A, B, C, and D. D is minimal. Basically, they
see a stub out over there, a pipe sticking up out of the ground, and they go to it and they say, "Okay, you've got some type of utility here." This is both A and B, which is best you can get. We even it even has a a ground penetrating radar so that we can we'll know where all the utilities are. It's very important. You know, if you hit electrical line, chance of somebody getting hurt really bad. If you kill the power and it happened to be school day and that could happen later down the road, that's shut down school for a couple days. That's not fun to come tell you guys. So, we're going to do our best to make sure it's worth the money to do that to make sure we know where all
all the electrical lines are. That's electric, gas, water, fire technology. So anyone with that report, we get to shave and he'll have with the school being the age that it is. There's there's already some lines that we one of the things that made us decide to do this. We've already ran into some situations where we're told there was a line there, there wasn't a line there. We went back, looked, we found a line that was 4 foot over where it was supposed to be. So there's a lot of that going on right now. So, it's worth the money to get that right on the front side because the cost on the back side can be really big. With that, any questions? >> Okay, we're here to ask you guys to approve the demo project for
this summer. >> Uh, June 1st. >> So, about two weeks. We got to be finished before school starts. >> And I got it. That's right. This >> all in all 2,67,000. >> That's correct. With our discussions about that, we feel like we got a little there's a couple areas we're not sure what we're going to run into. So, we've added a little bit in case we do it. So, hopefully we'll be able to return that back to the school district. We don't need that cover any additional work hooking up the classrooms yard. So >> you So what is the additional >> Oh maybe and I'm kind of guessing at this but I'm maybe a couple hundred thousand we might be able to save there. >> Was that the question? What's the additional amount that we
may be able to save? >> Yeah, we got we got 200,000 in there for >> Austin >> to move the fiber so >> out of the construction area. >> The fiber that's coming into the building is a direct path of where the demolition is going to be. So say the company's going to come out redrop that you're going to start that first week. I I'm hoping it's nowhere near that. >> Me too. Me too. Where's your summer vacation? >> But I will say, you know, for um the the trailer that you guys the next couple years, we're going to try to do that in house to save as much as we can. So, our team will take care of a lot of those connections. Unfortunately, we do not have a fiber slicer on hand. Uh
but for everything else, I think we can take care of. >> So, and Kabar, that original price was 2.9 close to almost three. And so we sat down last week, we went through it, us and uh the construction manager team and we went through it and we were able to pull back to that as well. So we feel good about that number now. >> Mr. President, I move that we approve the guaranteed maximum price in the amount of $2,671,75 and authorize the superintendent to execute all necessary documents related to the project. >> Second. >> We have a motion and a second to approve the guarantee maximum price of the amount of 2,671,75 to execute all necessary documents related to the project. All in favor say I. >> I oppose. No. Motion passes presented. >> Thank
you. >> Let's go. We have a demolition party. >> Raymond groundbreaking >> a demo party. >> All right. We will now journ to close session permitted by test code section 55101. Thanks everyone.
