Jumping in information added. Graduation, May 22nd, 2026. What are we asking for here? We're just letting >> We're just letting you know that I'm supposed to post the graduation date tomorrow. You can be square. Doors open
002at 5. We start at 6. I'll be done by 7. What day of the week is that? It's a Friday. Friday. Y'all have seating behind us? Podium? We have our seating. I think I can get there by 5 and save myself a seat. Okay. I'll save you one for you. I think I might be getting on the boat that day. Nothing's next day. Okay, good. 2B District Fundraiser Highlights. Got um two fundraisers, uh elementary teacher fundraiser, and then uh junior high cheer fundraiser. Um junior high cheer's kind of an ongoing one. It's the spirit store, so you can get on anytime for a while and order yourself something. We really go on it if you need to and stuff. Theirs is kind of a long running one. Okay. Any questions? Uh Dow Grant. Uh Dow
003just gave us $20,000 towards uh getting welding equipment for ag mechanics. That's the first step in being able to get to where we have welding certifications on campus, not just through LSCO. Um Um couple of their guys have come out and worked with us on it. Um So, there's a chance we're still going to get some more equipment through Texas Workforce Commission also, so we're not going to order right away. Um because we would rather get um everything in one chunk and be able to get some bulk discounts, etc. Um if we do get that Texas Workforce uh grant also, but this is a huge first step and we can do it on this, but if we can get that other one as well, we can do it better. Do we have someone who can
004teach it? Do we have or have a plan how we're going to teach it? Yes. Um Ms. Moore's been going through training um all year long to be able to do the ag mechanic side of it. Um she's not quite there yet for the AWS certification side, but like I said, that's why this is step one. So. But she can do the ag mechanic side. Yes. And actually went and visited the um ag mech show at the Newton County Fair and got some ideas and talked to Daniel a little bit from Newton and then we have I think 24 something kids signed up interested to take it next year. Yep. Ag mechanics in Texas. Yeah, it'll be a big program for us. Okay. Uh safety audit report. Uh it was a placeholder in case they
005got the report to us. Um they're not going to have it. Um this was within the window, but they still have a couple of weeks that they can get it to us and they do not have it to us yet, so it'll be on next month's agenda when we get the final full report. Board reporting. Uh superintendent report. Um So, this goes with uh some work that Janae's been doing with me on where we're at with Johnson Control. Uh Ideal Impact is another outside company that for free comes in and looks at our utility usage. Um and does a study. Um it if there would have been a lot of savings, they try to sell you something, but um we're not in that, but um basically, where we're at is that um our buildings run
006reasonably efficiently, except except for air conditioning controls. Um they're not working as intended or designed. We've got a letter out to Johnson Control asking for clarification on that. Uh when we sent it, we got a vacation notice automatic email they wrote back um last Friday, so I'm giving them till about Wednesday, and then I'll follow up again um on that with our person over there. Uh but the inefficiencies we're seeing in our electrical bills are are generally all from air conditioning controls. The The other parts of our buildings are running as designed. There was no major mechanical faults that Ideal Impact found. Um So, that was the good news. The bad news is our thermostats are running at inappropriate times and inappropriate temperatures. Is that because of something we set? Don't know, honestly. We're We're
007not um that's part of what we're trying to find out. We do not know if there's a um way that internally we can fix that and have some more control over it or if it's an issue with the Daikin thermostats and they're at fault. So, that's what we're trying to find out. Is this primarily at the high school? Uh Or is it No, they're both uh the Daikins are district-wide. Okay. on our thermostats. So, isn't Johnson Control weren't they didn't they get us set up initially? Didn't we pay them for something. To make us whole or something. They came out and did it all new lighting. They did all at the high school and in the parking lot. So, we paid them to come out. They gave us a pretty big bill and told us
008how it should be and it would pay for itself. We went with the We spent extra for those particular lighting, light controls, the AC controls, and the new system that they put in place. Remember, but we paid them to put the whole new AC system Yeah. and get it set up so we're >> And it would pay efficiently, so 100%. And nobody on our side has messed with it, hopefully. That's So, that's that I think it was I'll do it Do the thermostats need to be in lock and key? Well, I don't I think there's more to it than that. I think it's not It's not that, it's the unit itself. Well, I think it's a lot of what's happening when we're not here right here. It is not that it's the way we automate
009that in the management. Yeah, people don't just walk in and do that. There's a program if I remember in this school. Correct. Where Only a couple of people I think had access to actually go in there. Remember we had damper problems and stuff. Remember the beginning our floor four wet and I had to go turn all of that down. Yeah. So, that all happened when when we had the meat locker in the Yes. in the gym in the gym. Yeah. But, at least we We're starting to back around now, right? We'll make them prove to us that they're >> Correct. We're making money it's supposed Yes. And Johnson Controls prove to us that it's earning what it's supposed to or what they're going to show us how to fix it so it does earn what
010it's supposed to. That's That's the crux of this matter. And we had to get I don't know if I can get them in. Help one is where the the point is in our place so we have something to go back to Johnson and Yeah, this is where we're the issue is. The astronomic stuff, yes, some of your system stuff is doing what it says, but there's an issue with the thermostat especially when we're not in the buildings. Okay. All right, let's move on action items. 3A, discuss and take possible action to approve monthly bills, board reports, and utilities. I'll make the motion to discuss and take possible action to approve monthly bills, board reports, and utilities. I'll second. Any questions, concerns? >> Yeah, the one I have is before you came on board we was
011getting hit with a large water bill. And then shortly after you got here, I believe, Mr. Brady is when we found the line that was out here that was actually leaking, but it wasn't put in when the school was built. I think the contractor came in and put it in. Okay. At which time any uh followed in the water bill. Um I know we've had some fluctuation, Mark, but all that also went to that um back flushing of the chiller that one month that caused it to spike there. Um cuz that took a lot of water to back flush that. Um I know last time I talked to Ms. Willis about it, she said that we were where we uh should be right. So, I I I can't give you a dollar amount. It's been
012running pretty It It It hasn't spiked. Yeah, it has. Yeah, it has. You see when I first got on the board, we would see something fly up. Oh my god. I had two months of 3,800 in February and then 1,900 and then March was 2,600. But, that was the back flush. Yeah. And I I want to say they they spread that back flush out over those two months for us instead of us eating it all at one time. Trying to help out a little. Yeah. Um cuz it was like I said, it was a lot of water cleaning that sucker up. It's It's what I would expect to see, unlike what we've seen in the past four years. You actually see, you know, the triple digits in July and and August as opposed to, you
013know, double digits or whatever. >> No, it don't freeze last next month because you've been without water so That's just that, you know, I hate to say that, Okay, any questions, concerns, all in favor? Here. Three may discuss and take possible action to approve the monthly board meeting minutes. I move to discuss and take possible action to approve monthly board meeting meeting minutes. I'll second. Any questions, concerns, all in favor? Motion carries. Three C, discuss and take possible action to approve donations to ISD. Do we bill ISD of Apple Springs? We have any thought about that? No. The motion? Three D, discuss and take possible action to approve purchases. I'll make a motion to approve. Is there a second? Second. Uh three E, discuss and take possible action to approve Region 5 food service cooperative
0142026-2027. I'll motion to discuss and take possible action to approve Region 5 food service cooperative 2026-2027. I'll second. And this is our uh agreement with Region 5 where they come out and um and help make sure we're meeting all those up to gazillion uh federal and state guidelines concerning food purchases and weights and measures and and and and and and Uh Also, they they do a pretty good job of coming out regularly and helping uh um especially on the back end of some of that stuff. So, this is contract, you get a pretty good deal out of it. Any questions? All in favor? Carries. 3F, discuss and take possible action to vote and appoint SHAC members, SHAC members. I'll make the motion we discuss, take possible action to vote and appoint SHAC members. Second. So,
015uh SHAC is our health committee that has to meet uh multiple times a year. We are supposed to have five representatives on it that are not in any way, shape, or form school employees. So, you know, some of our committees we double dip and pull an employee to it's also apparent, but in this one it specifically states that we cannot do that. Um Lydia Manning reached out to these folks for us to see if they were willing to serve. Uh my recommendation is that we take all of them. They were all willing to with the hopes that we get five at a meeting because these meetings happen at different times throughout the year. Some of them are during the school day, some of them are um right before board meetings, etc. And so, allowing for
016different work schedules, uh hopefully if we were to take all of these willing folks, that would give us uh five in attendance to be in compliance. I like it. Any questions? Is there any kind of a conflict with Mr. Powell being on the committee? With his current position? Just wondering. Not a problem. Then I'm seeing it the The board board member. So, it's specific to a DISD employee, not board member. Correct. Okay. All in favor? Carries. 3G, discuss and take possible action to improve athletic insurance. I move to discuss and take possible action to improve athletic insurance. Second. This is our uh third-party insurance for injuries specific to athletic events. Um it's the same carrier that we've been going with at the same price. So nothing has changed? So nothing has changed? Nothing changed. Any
017questions? All in favor? Carries. 3H, discuss and take possible action to appoint an attendance committee. I move to discuss and take possible action to appoint an attendance committee. Second. This is a committee that's needed um for secondary students who have dropped below the number of days that allow them to be on the principal's plan, so they have to um go to an attendance committee to receive credit um if at all. Um but regardless, they no matter what, they have to go before an attendance committee to be uh to receive or be denied credit. Um we're required to have it a majority of teachers on the committee um and at least a five-person committee, so we need at least uh three teachers um nominated to this committee. Um my suggestion would be Miss Fountain and um
018Miss Stanley, who's handling attendance at high school, would be the other two non-teachers. Miss Fountain, um do you have some possible names for us of teachers? I do. I would like um Carla Jordan to be one. Um Clifton Boswell. Um the other ones are And I really think that they should be What is our action here? Is this something we have to act on all committees? No, but this one specifically lays out that the board has to appoint. >> all committees and they all have to. Yes. And again, because we would be awarding credit on transfer for graduation. So, it's kind of a chapter 74 graduation. What have we done in the past? Is this We've done this I don't recall ever seeing this before. I don't think it's ever been I mean, I don't
019know what to say other than done, right? Did we just sign off on Specifically attendance. Yes, ma'am. Okay. So, from >> And it's very, very few that it happens to. And And if I'm correct, if I'm wrong, it's one right now. We're we're talking one student that's triggered this. So, it may be something that we haven't that y'all haven't seen in a few years. Um it it requires quite a few days absent to trigger needing And the committee decides where they actually can get the credit, where they have to repeat, or where they have to Correct. Okay. Okay. So, it's not the committee that's saying you're ready to go. You can do you have the credits. They have to actually do the work. But, the committee is there to say, just like Luke said, They've
020done the work. you can move on, or no, you have to Right. So, they've done the work. It would be um They've done the work, but there might be more hours than we have available to make up on a Saturday, or we might have a student who might be at risk of dropping out if we don't hurry up and award them a diploma, then we would have a dropout on our hands. Um typically, that situation, that student, there's a reason why they're not in school. They need to um go. We need to let them go. They've done the work, but there might be some underlying mental health issues, or transportation issues, family issues. So, they have the grade, and they have the credit hours, the grade, they've done the work, they just haven't been in
021attendance. The seat time, that's the word. Okay. So, right now I have Jordan, Foster, Ms. Stanley. You need one more teacher. Um I'm not sure that I should really do a junior high teacher. I think that should be all high school. >> Um So, I would be looking at um maybe a CTE teacher. Like Ms. Holt or Danamore. Danamore. Danamore. Danamore. Yeah. So, Danamore, Clifton, Foster, Carlin, Jordan. Yourself. Myself and Ms. Stanley. So, y'all being appointed that committee to hear this this one case. All right. Any questions? Concerns? All in favor? The student themselves would have to basically appeal their case to this committee. Explain why they've not been in class. This is for the most part going to be a senior or 100% Talking about graduation. Yes. All right. That closes session. And this
022thing is moving along. I'm telling you. That was still a little longer. That was no session there. I think I still the same as you. Y'all got time yourself on this side. Mhm. I say that I like crispy, y'all. Yeah, that's what I'm doing this whole time. Um As soon as they take possible, I'm we reconvene. We're back We're back live? We hot? We're working on it. I'm working on it. Okay, so uh 3K discuss and take possible actions on matters discussed in closed. So, we want to add giving Mr. Wellborn the authority to approve contracts through August 3rd. Okay, so let me clear up a little bit. So, for 3L, we're coming out of closed and we are uh I'm proposing to give Mr. Wellborn the authorization to approve new hires through August August
0233rd. Do I have a second? 2026. 2026. Second. I'll uh do we You don't make a motion, though, right? You make a motion. I'm making a motion. Keep going. And I second. And I second. Any questions? All in favor? Okay, motion carries. Who seconded? Originally, y'all started. All right. See, we have 3L1. We have new hires and resignations. I'll go through the new hire. You have a new hire, Ms. Brandy Brister. And what she's going to teach? Sixth grade math. We have a recommendation motion Make a motion to discuss and take possible actions to approve new hires and resignations. I'll second. Okay, so we have new hire, Ms. Brandy Brister. We have Tracy Anderson resignation, Carol Wellborn resignation, and Kelly Wiley resignation. Any questions? Uh, is Anderson retiring, correct? Uh, this is my mom's first
024>> This is Ms. Well- Wellborn, she's re-retiring again. Okay. All right, all in favor? Motion carries. And brings us to, uh, four. >> a motion to adjourn. Second. All in favor? Motion carries. So, your mom's heading back home? Yep. You think we can get her to move down here forever? And hang out with y'all and drive. Mhm. I think you're right. I mean, I can't imagine why anybody would want to be in Dallas. She's in Dallas. She's in here. You'll be using the old battery charger.
