Please bow with me. Our most gracious heavenly father, how thankful we are that we could gather together this evening to do school business. Lord, we just thank you for the opportunities that we've had over the past few months to gather

together each and every day to to be together to learn to have lessons and not only in academics, but in learning how to be better people to learn how to work together as a team to grow as individuals and to become better citizens. Lord, we pray that you will be with us this evening as we conduct this business of the school district. Lord, we're thankful for each and every student that we've had in our school district this year. We pray for our seniors as they get ready to graduate. We pray that you'll be with them as they go off to school and go off into the world and to different careers. We pray dear Lord that you'll be with us as we prepare for our new school year. We pray that you'll be with our

teachers. We pray that you be with our parents as they um are with our students this summer. We pray Lord that you will help us to make the best decisions that we can as we conduct our business. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Okay, now we will have the pledges to the US and Texas flag. >> Hi, my name is Kylie Kemp. I'm a STARS graduate. Um I pledge allegiance to the Earth's the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Honor the Texas flag. I pledge allegiance to the Texas, one state under God, one and indivisible. Thank you. Now we will have our STARS and PTC campus report presented by Mrs. Margaret Rodriguez, STARS principal. Very

quick real quick. Miss Guidry will be joining me. Thank you, school board and Dr. Brosky for having us here tonight. I am the principal of STARS Accelerated High School and the Behavior Transition Center, BTC. Mark Margaret Rodriguez, and this is Megan Guidry, our counselor. So, today we're going to talk about both campuses. I'm going to start with STARS. STARS Accelerated High School STARS stands for Self-Motivated Teens Achieving Responsibility and Success. We have been open since February of 1994 in various locations. We are currently right across the street, where you can go visit, and you did last week and that was wonderful. So, thank you for joining us last week. We do offer an accelerated high school experience. So, that just sounds fun and fancy, but we are we do have an online platform. It is

content-based teachers and we do have customized courses. So, the teachers have small settings. They work more individualized with students and students can complete their courses in about 2 to 9 weeks depending on the amount of time they're in the courses and really what their plan is. We say that it is a self It is a self-paced program and we tell students that they can complete courses as quickly as they want. The great thing about being able to do that is students feel empowered to take their education into their own hands and they can they have that motivation. It's that It's that motivation that gets them to where they want to be as quickly as they can. Enrollment does change based on the number of students that we have, the applications that we receive, and then

how quickly students are graduating. A lot of times the question is why STARS? Why would I want to go to STARS? Well, it really is for anyone who just needs something different. We're a non-traditional type of high school. We do a lot of traditional things, but it is definitely smaller with individualized graduation plans and individualized support and as I mentioned customized courses. We have an opportunity to build really strong relationships. So, because we are small because we have on average about 40 students, we know every student by name, their story, what drives them, how we can help motivate them and get them to where they need to be each day. And you can accelerate and graduate faster. That really is a big motivator for many students. So, here's the three keys to our success and

just what we discuss many times on a daily basis. It's the foundational values of STARS. We have an interview before anybody is able to begin at STARS, and we agreed to these three things. We agreed that attendance is very important. You have to show up to be successful, and that's the very first thing we talk about is being present. And she's positivity, that attitude of responsibility, the attitude of learning and respect, and taking that initiative to again move forward and get to your next step. And then achievement is setting the goals. We all we work hard. We also play hard. We have a lot of fun things that go on, but our goal is that goal of graduating and getting there and then finding out what's next for me. You know what I missed? Can

Miss Guidry jump in about the scholarships real quick? So, we were really excited this year. We have uh had the privilege of with 43 graduates awarding $19,000 to students in scholarships, and one of those recipients is the individual that did the pledges for you guys, Miss Kylie Camp, who completed her high school career in a year and a half to be one of our top students and earn a 2-year full ride. So, she's going to go on to have a career in mental health, and we are so excited and so proud of her. Thank you. Oh, I didn't want to miss that. So, moving forward, a day in the life at STARS and what it looks like in the STARS experience. From the beginning, we connect. From the beginning, we are greeting every student at

the door. We're playing music. We have a question of the day where we're engaging and connecting. We're definitely getting to know students on a different level. They're very meaningful connections, and um we also we want to make sure that students know that they're seen. But we see them, we know them, and we want to help we want to help them every single day get to their goals. In addition to that, we have us incentives. So, you see the pictures up there where the students will have Sonic drinks. Um sometimes you get greeted by Donkey from Shrek. Um but the incentives we have are for perfect attendance. We have an attendance incentives even for 9-week perfect attendance. And then we also incentivize students who are there every day. However, maybe have missed a day but turned

in a note for it. So, sometimes we get sick. Sometimes we miss. But with the accountability factor of I was absent and this is why and they have no unexcused absences. So, we incentivize that as well. Next is the attitude part that we've talked about. What we do here is we really want to build that attitude of coming in, working hard, building those just building confidence in those relationships. Um in our building our core value for our culture, we we have Capturing Kids' Hearts and we have a social contract. And everybody is accountable to that. Not just the students. It's not student to student only. It's students and teachers. And teachers are modeling that accountability. And teachers are showing how we present ourselves each day. You can see in one of those pictures that there

is a teacher in that um our GISD serves shirt. We also go serve many times with many opportunities. And we have teachers that are Excuse me. We have teachers that are actually creating those processes to happen. I'm talking a whole lot. My mouth can dry. Um So, we we do this through recognizing and creating, like I said, real opportunities. And we also want to empower students. And part of this is having that ability to move forward, take ownership of your high school career, and then building leaders. And that's what we want to do through that whole process each and every day is building leaders and their and looking towards their future. So, this achievement piece again, whenever we start off, we interview and we look at a graduation plan. Every student is different. I might

have five courses to finish and someone else may have 25 courses to finish. Everybody's completely different, but they have an individualized graduation plan. We look at the number of classes that they have left and then we have a timeline. I love giving that timeline at the interview and saying, "This is how much you have left and ideally you can finish in this amount of time." And the student it's almost like a challenge. I say, "You can finish in 1 year, in two semesters." And then they're finished in 4 months. And it's just amazing because again, it's that motivation of, "Well, Ms. Rodriguez said it would take me a year to do this." And look at that, I finished faster. And so, it's really neat to be able to see students have their own goals, but

we as a whole have goals for students. And every small goal that we reach, every class that you finish is a course closer to graduation. So if I have five classes, I know I just finished one, I have four to go and just continue doing that each and every day. And we celebrate that. We celebrate with a bell ringing. We have a a bell in that first picture that's there under the what you do matters, the student's holding that small bell. Every time we hear that bell ringing down the hall, we all celebrate because that's a big achievement. And then when a student graduates and completes all of their requirements, they ring the big bell outside. Ms. Giguere is going to jump in next. And so really what we're talking about, we're culminating all these

incremental moments, right? All the times where you finish that one class and it builds and it builds. We're really asking our students to step forward and have the kind of leadership skills so that when they step outside of our building, they're the individuals that we want to see in the world. And part of that is while we love the diploma and we love seeing them graduate, we also want to make sure that when they leave our doors, they've got that plan. They know who they are and where they're headed. And so that's been a big part of what we're trying to cultivate now is what's next and do you have it ready in hand so that when tomorrow comes you are ready because we set you up for that. Yeah. And so with that in

an individualized way much like we do at STARS there are many similar aspects at BTC which is the behavior transition center. And so that is part of chapter 37 in our Texas Education Code and so other districts often call it your DAEP, your district education program. And the role of that school in many ways like STARS we're there to meet students where they're at. They come to us for a variety of reasons and the the time they spend with us also ranges is like their ages and their needs and so our goal is to try and meet them exactly where they're at and support them with the needs that they have. And so part of how we're able to do that is through the CKH which is really beautiful cuz it dovetails with all the

things that are happening on their home campus. There's a shared language and understanding but also allows us to pour in and have that community time. So while students are with us really supporting aspects of respect and dignity. Um things that often sometimes get lost when we're in a a punitive type situation. And so again cultivating a program on that side the separate school that we also are are able to run and be a part of that supports students in a in a individualized um way. I do want to make that distinction again that two different campuses a lot of times there's a there's confusion even within our own district of STARS being BTC or BTC being STARS. They are two separate programs under the same roof and they are in two separate hallways. We do

share principal, counselor, secretary but the teachers are separate for each of those programs. Um the The Kids Hearts has played a big role in what we do on our campus each day in both the Stars and the BTC side. But the cool thing about being able to implement it even though it may look a little bit different for BTC is that we are bridging that. So we're bridging the home campus to be able to provide that space where it's common language. We are supporting that program even within our program in BTC and so students continue to hear that throughout their time with us and then when they return to their home campus as well. So that's I've really enjoyed being able to implement that. And then some celebrations. We want to honor just everything that

happens there. It's It's a program that builds so many or fills so many gaps for so many different needs. Um we are we have been named national showcase school for the second year in a row for Capturing Kids Hearts and so we are super proud of that. Students, teachers, families, they just come and go and they see the heart of who we are and Capturing Kids Hearts has been able to just amplify that because the culture that we've had all this time is we love you, we see you. At Stars we say we love you and we kick you out the door. We want you to go to do what's doing next. At BTC when they leave we say we love you. We affirm you in all the great successes that we've seen you the

way we've seen you grow. And um and we say [clears throat] we never want to see you back there. Um and then thanking our community Yeah. So I have to say it really makes me tear up. There are people in this room, there are people outside of this room that have poured into our campuses this year everything from the events we've been able to have to the funding to the questions. And so I can't imagine a better community get be a part of that loves and supports our students in all the various forms that they come to us in. And so that's just a huge thank you for the opportunity to serve alongside so many individuals that have such a heart for students. And finally, we do have our graduation this week. We are having

our first banquet to honor our graduates. Ms. Gidry is an amazing part of that. So I'm so thankful for her vision. And the next day on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. you are all invited. And we will celebrate 25 graduates this semester. So. Any questions? I have one and I already told you I was going to ask you this. Um. I think sometimes people assume with STARS, oh we'll we'll just we got to figure out a way to get them their their diploma. But some of these kids students go on to do amazing things. And I was wondering if you could give us some examples of some previous graduates of STARS. Yes, they really do. And STARS is for, like I said earlier, anybody who just needs something different. And there are so many different

reasons. Not everyone fits into that traditional mold. That doesn't mean I don't have goals. That doesn't mean I don't want big things. Um. But we see so many success stories. And the cool thing we get to do, the amazing thing we get to do is we invite previous alumni back to our graduation. And they are guest speakers. And we get to hear their story and just how far they've gone. How far they've taken their life, right? Um. We have, like Morgan Galvan Green, who's a nurse. And she's still lives in our community and has I think she has children still in in Granbury ISD. Melissa Black and Dana Morgan, they are both educators. They currently are educators in GISD. So, that's just amazing to be able to I to learn about that. There's many times

I run into someone and they're like, I graduated from STARS. It's like, oh my goodness, what are you doing now? And so, you're going to be my my next guest speaker kind of thing. Um, Joe Nash, we met him last semester and he was our guest speaker last semester. He's an entrepreneur and I mean a list of things that he has done in his life that have been really amazing. And Austin White, he also is in our community as well and he is a police officer. So, that's just a few of the many we've had guest speakers who have masters in social work and um, I I met someone and I can't think of the name but who became a doctor. I mean, there are so many opportunities. STARS does not limit you from being

able to go on and do what you want to do in life. Military as well. Lots of Lots of our students go to the military. So. >> Thank you. Mhm. Thank you. Thank you. Thanks for our tour this week. Next, we have our achievement spotlights. First up, we have the GHS Starlettes Dance Team to receive multiple national championships at MA Dance Nationals presented by Shelby Sargent. Good evening. Um, my name is Shelby Sargent. I've had the opportunity to speak to you before. Um, today I would like to present you can turn and look at the board now. Um these are four of my Stowaways dance officers. Um and I just wanted to give you a little um backstory of how our opportunity to compete at Nationals happens. So, we do summer camps, we do a

football season, we do a holiday season, and we go into contest season. But in the summer, these amazing officers at the MA uh dance officer camp in June received a bid to be able to compete at Nationals for our entire team. Um so, they have to receive a bid from numerous evaluations that they go through, they have to get scores and everything. And so, they received that for our team this year. And so, in March we had the opportunity at competing at the MA dance Nationals um in Arlington at UTA. Um and they received as an officer line national champions for all three of their routines for highest scoring in our category. And then as well, our team of 46 um received the highest um scoring dancers as well for team. And we also received

a national title for our team as a whole. So, we came back with an officer national title and a team officer or team national title. Um and I'm very very proud of these girls. Um our season never ends. Um it is year-round, and I think a lot of people think that we just go and do football season, but that is not the case. In addition to the Nationals, uh we have to do a regional and a state contest as well. So, we did three contests, went through the end of March, and then we went straight into recital and tryouts and officer tryouts. And we're starting now again with the new team. And so, um it's an exciting time, uh but these four young ladies have dedicated so much time to being leaders in our team,

and they deserve the recognition that they um get with their titles in the national sense and their awards, but also just in being fantastic servant leaders to their team. Um and I'm very proud of them. So, thank you for recognizing our officers and our team tonight. Um I really appreciate it. Um Coach Green and I are very honored to be their coaches and to have been able to lead them throughout the season. I also just want to acknowledge that uh Shelby is leaving us. This is her last season, so I want to give her a round of applause as well. She is moving on to be an assistant principal in Eastland ISD, so And if we have any family, friends, teachers in the audience, would you please stand and be recognized as well? Shenna Workman

Okay, next up we have our GHS senior Miller Shenna Workman. I'm sure I'm saying that wrong, but uh advancing to UIL state track meet presented by Coach Jody Brown. And I apologize if I said Jody's last name incorrectly. Uh I thank the board I want to thank the board and Dr. M for having us here tonight. I made a few notes here so I didn't uh make sure I got everything right. Does this thing come up? There we go. Okay, there we go. Got it right there. Um, so Miller, this is Miller Shenna Workman. For you guys that don't know, Um, he is qualified for the state track meet two years in a row. So, we just got back. He went down and competed Friday. Um, and if you know a little bit about track

and field, the state track meet takes the best in the state. So, there's nine competitors in each event and and Miller was one of those and it's it's a it's a huge accomplishment just because it it's a very limited uh, once you get down there, it's it's the best of the best. And and Miller has just jumped su- superbly all year long. Um, I can't say enough about him and how he has represented us, how he's represented his mom and dad. Um, couple things about him that you probably don't know, he's a four-sport athlete, which is extremely difficult to do at the 5A level, okay? And we really try to try to get our athletes to be multi-sport athletes and he's one of the ones that just really takes that on. He played football, he

played basketball, track and field, he played golf. I think at one time, Miller, maybe maybe your freshman sophomore, did you play baseball, too? Um, so, he does it all and he's just an outstanding young man. I cannot say enough about him. His mom and dad are here here tonight. They've done an outstanding job raising him. There's no question about it. Um, when you talk about guys that you want to be looked at at your program, he makes straight A's. He is yes sir, no sir. He is the most humble human being I think I've ever been around. And I am such a fan of this young man. He is absolutely incredible. And that's for me, that's what we that's why we do what we do. It's to see young men like this and and form

those relationships. And Miller has just been outstanding. So, um, I'll kind of wrap this up here. Sorry to ramble on. He's he was um, a four-time district champion in the high jump, a four-time area champion in the high jump, a two-time bronze medalist at the regional track meet, and then a two-time state qualifier with a personal record of 6 ft 9 in. Um but I cannot say enough about him. He He will attend BYU in the fall. Um Miller, stand up for me. You want to say You want to say hi to them? Have somebody great young man. If we have any family, friends, teachers in the audience, would you also please stand and be recognized? Okay, next up we have our MCJROTC Year of Achievements presented by Lieutenant Colonel Scott Casey. Yeah, uh good

evening. Um actually, First Sergeant Jose Guerra, I got thrown to the by the wolves by uh by Scott Casey over there. So, um first time addressing all of you all. Uh it's my first year here with the program. Uh I just retired in July, and people were asking me, "Why would you want to go be around high school students all the time?" Uh but I couldn't ask for a better uh job, better community to come into, and these cadets are absolutely uh phenomenal. So, going over all the stuff throughout the throughout the year. Uh I'll start with academics. So, McKenzie Scott right here in the front was actually our academics captain this year. Uh we had two teams qualify for the round two, um which we hadn't done in a while. It's very very hard

to get one team into the second round, let alone two. And we nearly missed taking a team to nationals. Uh so, a little bit about the academics, uh they only take eight total teams to nationals. Uh all region only qualifies one. So, out of the 16 teams, we had two. So, we were battling against 14 other teams, and unfortunately, we just missed uh making it to Nationals. The other two regions get uh more bids. One gets a four, and the other other region gets three. For some reason, we only get one. Um still trying to figure that out. >> [laughter] >> Uh then we have uh Fiona Doss and Eli Hall. They are our PT team and Raider team uh co-captains with uh Fiona Doss being our our main captain. Uh our physical fitness team

did a great job this year. Uh our highlighting achievement was we went to W.T. White and won first place for the fourth year in a row. So, uh that was her big thing was like, "Hey, I I've won this since I was a freshman. I want to make sure that we win it again." So, we went Actually, when I showed up, uh they didn't know who I was. Obviously, they were looking for a freshman who was in this. And when they realized I was from Granbury, they literally told me, "Oh, all your trophies are over there on the table." And I was like, "What are you talking about?" "Well, you guys are going to win." And sure enough, we took the whole thing. Uh so, it was great. Uh so, they made it super easy.

Uh Raider was a little bit tougher this year as our first year doing it. Uh it's like our PT team ramped up by 1,000%. Uh but these uh kids and many of these kids up here are these cadets up here are on our Raider team. Uh and they fought hard. Um to give you a little bit of an idea, they show up and run 3 mi right off the gate. Uh and that's the only thing they do in shorts and shoes. Everything else is in boots and uts. So, uh uniform bottoms with boots. And their very next event may be running another mile carrying 35 lb, and then carrying a 100-lb uh simulated casualty carry. Um they're carrying 50-lb water jugs. They're carrying 30-lb uh pound ammo cans, lifting a 250-lb log. Okay, doing all

of this as a team together. Um so, extremely extremely proud of them and all their achievements in that. Uh Wyatt Sites here was our team captain for both robotics and Cyber Patriot. Uh we had a little bit of a rocky start to the season, but we we showed up. We competed. And uh he's already working hard for next year. We're already in the process of building a robot to uh for next year, so we have a a much better season. And then we he's since transferred Cyber Patriot over to another cadet. Uh Orienteering Captain isn't out here, um but uh Whitesides will actually be taking over uh for this coming year. Uh Orienteering was a new thing uh or they've done it before, but we really really got into it this year. Um basically, we

take the kids out to the woods, we give them a map, and we're like, "Hey, go find these points." Uh first meet was a little rough, but we did some practicing, and the next couple of ones we actually uh took first place in several of the different uh course categories, and there was even one where we took first, second, and third on the podium. So, very very very proud of them. Uh our Rifle Team, obviously uh captained by uh Viola Allen, um we all know all the amazing things that they they do uh they do year in and year out. 10-time Marine Corps JROTC champions, uh fell short at All-Service, but uh Viola Allen did take uh national champion and set a national record at the All-Service National Championship. So, phenomenal season for them. And

then specifically, why all these individuals are here in front of you right now is uh we just got back from the national competition out in uh the Bronx, New York. So, uh we got a call. They're like, "Hey, uh we know you guys have competed in the past, and we know this isn't something that you registered for, but we'd love to invite you to come out and compete at our national competition." Um the best part was they paid for everything. So, uh we're like, "Hey, we'll be there." Uh so, we went out there. Uh it was last minute. It wasn't anything we trained for because we were focusing on other different types of competitions, uh but they performed uh very very well. I'm extremely proud of them. Our uh our women's team, they uh scored

fourth out of nine teams, and the men's team got seventh out of 11th. Uh and these were some of the best teams in the nation. Uh and um we got there, and there were some of these kids that looked like collegiate-level athletes. Uh and but they didn't get discouraged. They gave 110% the entire way, fought hard, made some great friends while while we were out there. And the best thing about it is every single person, other than obviously the seniors that are going off, but all the the juniors and below immediately came back and were like, "Sir, we want to come back next year. We want to place. We want to win this thing. We'll start training." So, extremely extremely proud of them. Couldn't have asked for a better program to come come to. And

now that I've been up here, I'm looking forward to being back up here next year with a lot of great and exciting things. So, thank you. And if we have any family, friends, teachers in the audience, would you also please stand to be recognized? Okay, next up we have our Charlton Kirk Senior of the Month, Riley Breedon. Hello. Hello. We'd today we would like to congratulate and recognize Riley Breedon as Granbury High School Charlton Kirk Senior of the Month. Riley is a senior at Granbury High School for a few more days. And um she's very involved in academics, athletics, and a lot of service organizations throughout the the school year. A member of the Lady Pirate soccer team and also participates in the CNA clinical program um and also a former member of Granbury band

as well. Um we would like to give you this certificate right here and a little bit of spending money. And if we have any family, friends, teachers in the audience, please stand and be recognized as well. And next we have our GHS Class of 2026 Valedictorian Grace Blevins and Salutatorian Nathan Walters, presented by Mr. Dwayne Fish. You you can stand on either side. It's okay. Would you like us to face the people? Start facing the board and then we'll turn. Um I just met with these two this morning uh cuz we're going over graduation speeches and all that kind of fun stuff, making sure that we're ready to go for for night, um praying for good weather. Um Um but I got to tell you um one of the things and it isn't just you

know, this school year uh learning a little bit about these two as we've gone along. Um knowing that they are leading their class in academics. Um it's watching them do the three things that we hold near and dear to our hearts at Granbury High School, which is be involved, work hard, and be kind. And I'm not going to sit up here and ramble on about each one of them. What I'm going to ask them to do is just uh they're going to speak on Friday. You guys got a lot to say. I've read some already. Um and it's really good, but um don't give any of that away. But I just want you guys to let everyone know, you know, what you've been involved in and uh you know, who you're grateful for that's here

in the room, okay? So, go ahead and uh one at a time come on up. Nathan, why don't you go first? Uh hi, I'm Nathan. I'm your salutatorian of the GHS class of 2026. In my high school career, I've been involved in a lot of different things with a lot of different wide-ranging, I guess, skills that require it. Uh I've been in the band for all 4 years. This past year I was a drum major. Uh I've been in basketball for all 4 years. Uh and then I did track my sophomore and um sorry, my freshman and sophomore year. Um Uh yeah, and I'm the vice president of the NHS, and I was on the UIL math team this past year. And in the fall, I'll be attending University of Texas to study mathematics. That's

awesome. Hi everyone. My name is Grace, which you already knew, but I felt it polite to say it again. Uh let's see. During my time at GHS, I've gotten to be a part of our wonderful choir all four years. As a sophomore, I decided that I wanted to be a cheerleader. So, I became a cheerleader and I got to do that for about half my sophomore year and then my junior and senior year, which has been such a blessing. I'm co-president of our Junior Optimist Club and we'll be running concessions at graduation. So, please make sure to stop by cuz that's really a big fundraiser. Shameless plug right there. And I'm also president of NHS. What else am I forgetting? Oh, I got to be a part of the UIL journalism team this year, which

was so much fun and Ms. Anderson was just the best. I'm trying to think if there's anything else. What about your stats? No, we're not going to list our stats. That's implied. What school are you going to do? Oh, yeah. I will also be attending the University of Texas at Austin to study molecular and cellular biology. And if we have any family, friends, teachers in the audience, please stand and be recognized as well. It's my prerogative. All right, got it. Thank you. Thank you. So, did Grandma say anything? Grandma said more. Sorry, Andrew. Yeah. Grandma said That's That's >> That's a good one, isn't it? Thank you, Mr. Neil. Uh now we are moving on to public comments. We didn't have anybody sign up, so the next action The next action item is to consider action on items discussed in closed session. We have considered staff recommendations. Do I have a motion? So moved. I have a motion by Mr. Bolton. Do I have a second? I'll second. And a second by Mr. Moore. Any further discussion? Okay, all in favor, raise your hand. Let the record show

that it is seven in favor, zero against. The motion passes. Next, we have the superintendent's report presented by Dr. Courtney Morrowsky. Yes, thank you, Madam President. Couple of announcements and then a couple of celebrations. Number one, we'll start with some announcements for those of you left in the room. By the time we get to my stuff, half the people have left, so I'll try not to take that too personally, but the first thing to start with is that our community awards for our student scholars or seniors happened this week. And I always like when I can how many students were awarded our scholarships and how much money they earned. So, a total, I think, of 132 students were awarded 132 seniors were awarded scholarships and local money that went to those seniors was $355,460. Sorry,

I said that wrong. It's actually $355,460 total to those 132 students. So, it's pretty amazing show of support from our community. So, I I like to announce that. Also, another announcement. We have three of our students that are participating today in the state UIL. In fact, they may have already participated. I'm not sure if if anybody knows any results. Anybody hear anything? Okay. So, we're excited to hear how they did. That's a big showing for Granbury. Usually, one is about how many we send, so we're excited that three have traveled down there today. I know one was a senior, but I think the other two are juniors, so we're excited that we're building up our program there. And then, just as always, uh, we have two graduations at this time of year. Thursday, we have

our Stars graduation at 7:00 and Friday, we have our our regular traditional Granbury High School graduation at 8:00. If you haven't been to either one, you're welcome to come. We're excited for both of them. We are watching the weather, those of you that are wondering. Uh, we will keep you updated, but we plan, after watching, we think we're going to be just fine, but we'll make sure and keep you updated and about any changes that will happen. Some recognitions tonight, um, this group doesn't get enough recognition, but I want to start with recognizing Stacy Brown, Carly Wilmeth, Denisa Mendel, and Leah Archer. So, if you guys want to walk up here the front while I'm talking about you, I'd love it. Um, so tonight, we want to thank you and recognize you for the countless

hours that you pour into planning, implementing, and supporting teachers during the first year of our new math curriculum implementation of Blue Bonnet. Their leadership and dedication have not gone gone unnoticed. We have heard praises from our teachers, from the Educational Service Center, Region 11, and even from the Texas Education Agency, including the Commissioner during a visit to Granbury ISD. We're incredibly grateful for the impact that they continue to make for our students and staff every day. So, it's not often that people get visited by the Commissioner. In fact, everybody's talking about it. So, really, it is, uh, these are the women behind all the work that went into that, and so we're incredibly grateful, and the board needs to know that you guys are the behind the magic. And so, I have a special token

for you guys, okay? You know, don't know how to work thing. Okay. All right, my second announcement is from right here since I'm already standing here and I'd like to make sure that we recognize our new assistant principal for Emma Robertson. So, I'm going to have um What's the first name? I'm sorry. Pack a Bush. Rachel Pack a Bush. I was so worried about the last name. Pack a Bush. Rachel Pack a Bush, come on up. We stole her, not really, from Wylie ISD. We're so grateful that she joins us. She's new to our community and her husband is a new Well, he's been here a little bit from Lakeside. Is that right? Lakeside Baptist. So, we are grateful that you're here. We're going to make sure that we get a picture with you, but

we're grateful that you're here and you have some supporters in the room with you. All right. So, perfect. Okay. So, let's give her some applause. Okay, my last announcement is that at this time of year we're often asked, you know, as leaders in the district, as a school board, you know, how close are you when you're thinking about decisions and to what actually is happening. When you have to make rain delays or you have to think about graduation, how close are you to really um being involved with graduation. So, I want to remind you that these people are really involved in graduation. So, we have a a little video for you to watch. >> [music] [music] >> So, big congratulations. These are important decisions that you guys sit up here and make and we want

to acknowledge that um this is important and we're proud of you. We're proud of you guys. Lisa Oliver, you just missed it. But Play it again. Play it again. Play it again. Okay. Here we go. Here we go. >> [music] >> I know. >> [music] [music] >> You're welcome. >> [laughter] >> It's just a reminder that um you are invested, you're important, your children are important. We keep our students front and center when we make decisions and we just want to remind everybody of that. So, thank you for what you do each day. Your children are important to us. So, thank you. All right. Now we get to move on to other business. Here we go. All right. Moving on to district reports, financial statements for period ending April 30th, 2026. Mr. Emmett Whitfield. Thank

you, Madam President. Board in front of you do have the financial statements for period ending April 30th, 2026. These statements do not do include transactions that occurred between September 1st, 2025 and April 30th of 2026. Revenues collected today do equal 97.14% of the budgeted amount compared to 89.83% in 2024-25. The expenditures today represent 63.51% of the budget compared to 63.94% in 2024 and 2025. There's nothing really outstanding on those. We continue to monitor revenues to see how those are going to land towards the end of the year. Um you can see on there that our investment income does exceed our budget, but that's just because we're just doing really well in our investments at this point. And that's your financial statements. I'll answer any questions if you have any. Okay, moving on to the cash

flow and investment report for period ending April 30th, 2026. Mr. Emmett Whitfield. >> Thank you, Madam President. Board in front of you do have the the cash flow and investment report for April 30th, 2026. Um you can see that the interest earned in April was $359,893.78. This time last year in April we had earned $298,457.23. And for a total this year we have $2,267,741.95. And last year at this time we had $1,691,777.72. Next we have our budget update, Mr. Emmett Wybill. Madam President. Board for May the campus and department of budget have been entered and they've been verified in Skyward and they're all within their allocated amounts. All the manual budget entry has been entered in and is verified as well. The HR department has started their employment management and their salary negotiation portion of

the budget. Now this part of the budget, you know, as you know, is about 80 to 85% of the budget. Um they do they have been um asked to uh calculate three or four different scenarios and they're working on those in salary negotiations at this point. I know they've completed those cuz I've got those today and they and they we built those budgets and I'll start comparing those in the next couple days to get those out for the the cabinet. Um all those all those scenarios will be combined with the proposed budget. Um they'll be presented to the executive cabinet and to the superintendent. Um we'll compare all of those and bring the best budget forward to the board to present to y'all. Um the executive cabinet will present to the superintendent and she will

make the final decision of what we do bring forward to you. Um she gets final say of what we bring to y'all and then y'all get the final say of what we adopt. Um we are still budgeting a revenue on a zero student growth. And um having said that, we will probably be have recaptured about $3.8 million. And that's your budget update for May. Thank you. All right, next is categorical spending report, Mr. Emmett Whitfield. Thank you, Madam President. There are there are two categorical spends that we're reporting to you. These are expended single expenditures that were within between $50,000 and $100,000. And we bring those to you because they were purchased through approved purchasing um uh technique that you have approved already. Um the first one is CDW government and the cooperative is through

Sourcewell. It was a wireless access points that we're replacing and I believe we're working on the middle schools at this point. Um that is a $59,000 $59,130 and 65 cent purchase. Um the second purchase on there is the Flipping Group and that that is a that is a local contract that we have. Um and it is the service agreement for Capturing Kids Hearts and it is $51,295 for the month of April. Okay, thank you, Mr. Whitfield. Moving on to the consent agenda. Does anybody have anything they would like to pull from the consent agenda before we take a vote? I do, Madam President. I'd ask we pull item 12C, which is the Hood CAD contract, and item 12F, which are the El Tesoro and Camp Cruces contracts. Okay. So, I will um take a motion

to approve the consent agenda not including items C and F. So, this would just be for 12A, B, D, E, G, H, and I. Do I have a motion? So moved. Okay, I have a motion by Mr. Bolton. Do I have a second? Second. And then a second by Mr. O'Neal. Any further discussion? One second of discussion. I just want to talk about um item I there is I think is an example of appreciative inquiry. I like that I've had several conversations with Dr. Morasky about talking to those people who are closest to the task. And that includes teachers. I think teachers know what works best in their classrooms, not just for teachers, but also for students. And and so I I think that's way better than Austin telling us what to do. And there's

a lot of bureaucracy between Austin and Grand >> Yeah, 100%. >> that we're going straight to the source and talking to the people closest to the task. Thank you, Mr. Bolton. Any other comments or discussion? All in favor to approve items 12 A, B, D, E, G, H, and I on the consent agenda, raise your hand. And let the record show that motion passes seven in favor, zero against. Okay, consent agenda item 12 C, approve the H-CAD collections contract presented by Dr. Courtney Morasky. Um First, for procedural purposes, I entertain a motion and then we have a discussion. So, I will entertain a motion for item 12 C. I'll make that motion. Okay, I have a motion to approve the H-CAD collections contract by Mr. Bolton. Do I have a second? I'll second. And then

I have a second by Ms. Nancy Alana. Okay, the floor is now open for discussion. Madam President, um when I was going through this agreement, there was a couple of things that I thought I should at least in my review, that caught my attention and I thought we should at least bring to the board's attention so that we can have a discussion about it. Um the first of those is on page and then it's on page four of the contract, page 34 of the agenda packet, and it's item 3.9. And it's my understanding this contract was written by Huckabee and their attorneys and I just wanted to point out that that section 3.9 gives them exclusive control to name whoever they want as their attorney to represent Granbury ISD in any kind of collections. We

don't have any way to and to veto that decision the way this is written and we get stuck with the bill. So, my concern is this is a yearly contract that renews annually every single year and while we may we may like the legal counsel they choose today, we don't know who they're going to choose in 5 years. And if they make a decision that we don't agree with or if we don't agree with the fee structure of that law firm, we have no way to appeal that or or veto that. And so, I was just thinking maybe we should include some kind of language that allows us them to have to consult with us about who's going to be our lawyer and what that fee structure might be. That was my concern with 3.9.

Um the next section 3.10 it just says in there that they will get an audit. I agree with that. And it says they'll give us a copy of the auditor's report. I would like that to say if possible a copy of the complete auditor's report. That way there's no ambiguity and they don't try to give us an opinion letter or a summary of findings and claim that that's the report and that we end up having a fight with them about that because again, this is an annual contract they're not going to be renewing. And even if the leadership of today agrees they'll give us a complete report, we don't know what that leadership's going to do in 5 or 10 years from now. But if we put that word complete in the sentence that says

shall furnish a complete copy of the auditor's report, then um or even a copy of the complete auditor's report, it could read like that. There's no ambiguity there. And so, I just thought that. Um and then let's Finally on page 38 of the packet, page eight of the contract, um on the notice section, this is not a huge deal, but um I think in a contract that it's going to renew every year and it's supposed designed to be in perpetuity, when we're having notices, I don't know if I'd put a name to the attention of cuz what if that person's not there in 5 years? Where it says Jeff Law. I know he's there now, but what if he's not there in 5 to 10 years? And then do we have to still send him

notice? According to the contract, we arguably we do. Maybe you could just put attention Chief of Police and leave that name off. But um I just thought I caught those things when I was reviewing the contract. Um in my experience, I I used to be the city attorney. And so, when I review contracts, I review them hopefully we hope that nothing ever bad happens. But sometimes I think we have to review them in the event that something bad could happen. And so, Mike, those were just some of my concerns that I thought I wanted to bring to the board's attention for discussion. So, can we take those one at a time? Um I'll I'll I'll go back to section 3.9. Um I like your notes on that. Thank you for pulling that out and and

making those points. Um I I don't I'm not afraid of that language the way it's written because we're really outsourcing this to HCAD to collect taxes on our behalf. And this is not where GISD would necessarily need to defend something, but where where we are in pursuit or maybe I should say where HCAD is in pursuit of property taxes on our behalf. And so, I'm I'm I'm not concerned that they would hire their own attorney for that. They're acting on our behalf to do that. And so, I'm not I'm not terribly concerned with that section 3.9. And I'm sorry I read that through about three more times while you were talking about your other points. Your last one I caught and I agree with you, don't put Jeff Law's name in there, specifically. I like

to do that by title as well. So, I think that's just good practice. Uh what was your middle one? Um the middle one was 3.10, the audit to complete to show them that they come copy of a copy of the complete auditor's report. >> Yeah, yeah, I appreciate that, too. So, I I like that one. I agree with that. So, we can take uh but there's a motion to approve this contract currently on the table. And if you would like, you can make a motion to amend that motion with these um criteria in there, or we could take no action tonight and then s- send a different uh proposal back with those changes in there and before it comes back to the board. So, then as part of discussion uh did you did you have

a suggestion to make a change to 3.9? I don't I don't find a change there's necessary. >> On 3.9, would you explain again your your uh concerns on 3.9? Yes, yes, ma'am. Um my concern primarily is that it allows the HUD CAD to they they says they're going to hire the lawyer in their sole discretion as who that law firm's going to be. And it And then we get we get stuck with the bill. So, my concern is right now, for instance, they may hire a firm called Linebarger. We like Linebarger. We trust them. Maybe we do, right? 5 years from now, may have new leadership. They they decide they want to fire that law firm, and they want to hire another firm from Houston. And we may not like this firm from Houston, but

we don't have any way to veto that. And it's just kind of a protection for the future cuz we don't know what's going to happen in 5, 10 years. So, how would you phrase Well, yeah, how would I mean, I guess the the other alternative is you could cancel the contract because I mean, it does have a cancel cancellation provision. So, I guess if they hired somebody you didn't like them, you could give them a 90-day notice and cancel the contract. Yes, notice for us to approve it then. Yeah. Yeah, so Cuz we can all do that. Um You can only collect your own taxes. That's what the answer is. Wait a minute again. So, you got to read the It's really five or six lines down. Says, "As provided in such contract with the

private law firm will be calculated and added to the delinquent jurisdictions property tax assessment bill." So, really the delinquent taxpayer is the one who puts the bill, not us. Not GISD. So, the the They get to HCAD gets to hire the law firm on on our behalf as they represent us to go collect the property tax. And they collect in addition to the property tax, the fees that they had that were incurred by that law firm. It's not GISD that's stuck with the bill. It's the delinquent taxpayer. Who's stuck with the bill? Is that your read? On on your second glance there, do you see what I'm reading? You're starting and as Yeah. No, I I see that. And um Yeah, I guess my my my only concern would be we don't like who they

hire. But then I guess we could always terminate the contract. But um or tell them to renegotiate. I mean, we we obviously pay for this service. It's it's not free. We We pay them. So, even if they pay whatever service fees are incurred on a delinquent tax bill, we still have a bill from the attorney that we Do we not have a bill from the attorney? >> No, we wouldn't. No bill at all? Okay, then Okay. Yeah, that's collected along with the delinquent taxes. So, I don't I don't see any modification to the to the text, any amendment to text? That's what I want to clarify, yeah. Give me 3.10 again. Uh I would have complete I'm I'm okay with that. I would have amended the fourth sentence The fourth sentence would say shall furnish

a copy of the complete auditor's report to the jurisdiction. I'd add the word complete right before the word auditor's report. >> Okay. Yep. I agree. And then on the last one would be on page 38 of the packet, page eight of the contract. I would just remove the name I would Remove the name. of the chief appraiser and put the title there. So do you want to make a a motion to amend the motion to have those inclusions on there? I will make a motion that we amend the motion to approve the contract with the added language on section 3.10 of the fourth sentence shall read shall furnish a copy of the complete auditor's report to the jurisdiction and that the notice provision on page eight of the contract shall the required us to provide

notice to the chief appraiser removing the name of the individual. I have a motion to amend the motion with those inclusions that Mr. Neil just stated. Do I have a second? All right, I have a second to the amendment of the motion. Any further discussion on the amendment? Are we leaving 3.9 alone? Yes. As is. Yes. I I do have another item of discussion that goes along with that amendment. It's >> Okay. We can't make that decision unilaterally, so it's with the provision that HCAD also agrees to those changes. >> Correct. They would have to agree. >> That's right. So I I think that needs to be said. Right. So we're we would be approving the we would be approving this motion to have it amended with that language and then it would go back

to HCAD and they would have to approve. >> Correct. Correct. Yep. Yes. In which case if they agree to that, then we're authorizing Who would sign it? You or No, I think the board could sign it. Let's see. Yeah. Yeah. The board really doesn't say. Um, let's see if it's included in the agreement. Is it What's in the signature line? >> say. Mhm. And yeah, that's the other thing that probably needs to include who's supposed to sign it, me or Dr. Marosky. >> Correct. I would amend the amended motion. >> [laughter] >> To authorize the board president to execute the contract. If agreed by Hood County Electric. Yeah, so so now I have a a motion to amend the amendment to include the authorized representative of Granbury ISD, whether that's me or Dr. Marosky, to

sign the contract. It's the same in title right here. It's on there. Some All right, so >> So does it require Does it require I guess it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. Both of you are authorized. >> as We Either the board would authorize Marosky to sign it or me. So it doesn't matter. >> That's right, it doesn't matter. Do you want to withdraw your motion, Mr. Neel? >> We don't need the amendment to the amendment to the amendment. >> [laughter] >> I'll withdraw the amendment to the amendment. So now Now we're back on the amended motion. >> We need it in order. Now and I will see whether we have a second. We have two votes ahead of us. We have a motion for the amendment to include the language that Mr. Neel um

pointed out and a second from uh Ms. Alana and Mr. Neel. And do I have any further discussion on the amended motion before I call for a vote? With the provision that they agree and then we would authorize Correct. With the provision that they would agree and then it would be done. Okay. All in favor of the amended motion. Okay. Let the record show a seven in favor and zero against. The motion passes. Okay. Next question. Next one. 12F, approve two memorandums of agreement. Did we just We We had to We have to vote on the amendment, and then we have to vote >> get to vote on it again, even though we Okay. So, now I have the I I don't think so. >> We have to vote on the finalized version. We just

I don't think so. I think we just did that. >> to agree to amend the original motion. Right. And now we have to Now we have to approve the original motion. Okay, so I don't think so. Let's look at my cheat sheet here. I don't think we have to uh vote on it again because it was just the one It wasn't changing. Um I don't think so. I'm going to double-check. >> [clears throat] >> I'm going to I'm going to double-check this. I think you do. We We just voted to accept the the amendment to the original motion. And now we have to approve the motion. As amended. Mhm. You have to work your way into the nest and then back out of it. >> Correct. Yeah. Mhm. Mhm. So, you have a nested motion.

Okay. Well, just to be on the safe side, we're going to I'm going to call for it just because I don't want to not vote on something if we need to, even though we kind of already did. So, now we've got the motion back on the table to approve the HCAT contract with the amended provisions that we just voted on. Do I have a motion? So moved. >> Now we just vote. It's already The motion is already moved made. Okay. So, now any further discussion? All in favor, raise your hand. Let the record show the motion passes 7-0. Sorry. Thank you, Mr. Bolton. Okay, now 12F, to approve two memorandums of understanding for emergency transportation with Camp El Tesoro and Camp Crucis. So, here we go again. Do I have a motion to approve the

two MOUs? So moved. All right, I have a motion by Ms. Townsend. Do I have a second? I'll second. And a second by Ms. Alana. Okay, now the motion is on the floor and open for discussion. Thank you, Madam President. Like the last one when I was reviewing this contract, and I'm going to start with the one that has to do with Camp Camp Fire Texas, the El Tesoro contract. Page 58 of the packet. And I just want to point out that on page two, I think it's a typo, but it allows the county judge of Frio County to decide when they're going to close Camp El Tesoro. And Frio County is on the southern border, and and that's not where El Tesoro is. So, I think that needs to be amended to say the

county judge of Hood County. Great catch. On page 60 Wait, wait, find that one for me. What's the number? >> not finding it. It's on the second page of the contract. But it What's the number again? Oh, oh, good. It's at the very top, first line. Oh, oh, I see. Thank you. Very top, first line. Yeah. For everybody, it's the very first line of page two. Page That's page 60 in your book. Page 60 in the book it said the very first line on page And right up here at the very top, the judge of Frio County. That's 59, my bad. Yeah, page 59. Okay. Um next, if you turn over two pages to page 61, same same issue I brought up in the last contract, that has a specific names in there for the

parties and this is the contract that's going to be extending for renews annually for in perpetuity perhaps. So, I would just take the names out. Um If you turn to the next page 63 it talks about how the Camp Bowie Tesoro's going to and provide insurance but it doesn't say anything about them listing Granbury ISD as an additional insured. And I didn't know if that's something we wanted to do um because otherwise we can't make a claim on their insurance if we get sued. So um >> Okay, um we didn't have the appropriate people in the room cuz I didn't know this was going to be brought up to discuss. Um so that's one of the things that we talk about the consent agenda and having the right people in the room. If we want

to add it to discussion it's really helpful. Okay. Um it it is helpful so that I can have either attorney in here that developed it or the people that were part of the discussion. So unfortunately I don't have either one of those people in here. That's okay. I'm just pointing it out. And then in my last change on this one be if you turn to the next page and uh section nine dispute resolution uh part number two it says that we have to go to mediation in Frio County um southern border. Um Well, it says Hood or Frio. So, the one thing I would point out and um our our bar association here is really small. The change I would make here would be to add Tarrant County to that. Because it would I don't

know that we have anybody in Hood County that's a certified mediator in in Hood County that's an attorney that can handle like kind of mediation. So, I would sub I would substitute Frio County for Tarrant County. That way we have the ability to go to Fort Worth. I wonder why Frio is in there. I mean because it's that was clearly intentional. It's if it's in there twice. Is that Do we know what's up there? I know. I don't know. But that's so Frio County's pure soul. And it's down in the southern border. And it doesn't sound like that's their that's their home base. I mean when you look at the preamble they describe themselves as being a located Oh, no, that's us at 217 North Jones. This is nonprofit 2700 Meacham in Fort Worth. Right.

>> So, it's not like that's their home territory. >> Mhm. So, I don't know how Frisco got in there unless they had an agreement with some other school district somehow. Unless it just was left over in my language. >> It's just an artifact from a from a previous Or maybe they borrowed it from another campus. What we'll do is we will definitely have both of those were developed at the same time. We will pull these and we will not We will definitely re-look at these. It is embarrassing to be honest with you. And so, we'll make sure that we come better prepared next time. I think we were trying to be good neighbors. I know that campuses are under a lot of stress to get some emergency plans in place before summer. So, we were

trying to be good neighbors and make sure that we're being helpful, but we'll be better prepared next time. So, I apologize. We apologize. Yes, we we do apologize. These are These are in draft form and these were uh to be modified. And the motion tonight on on here is for you to give Dr. Morawski the right to sign these after our legal makes all the appropriate adjustments on them. >> Oh, that's fine with me. We can still discuss that. Yeah, and and I want to be clear to the community. I'm not saying these are bad agreements. I like the idea. I like the concept. I just don't want to have to have to mediate in person if that's what they choose to do. And um I want to limit us to Hood County if we

if there's if all the mediators are in Fort Worth. That's really all I got. >> I know I don't want us to do that either. So, I appreciate you um reading through this and making sure that we are doing the right thing. So, once again, we we will make sure that we're clear on this and and be good neighbors, but also make sure the district is prepared for this correctly. So, thank you so much for that. Yeah, Uh, on what page does that 57? Uh-huh. 57. And to be clear on the other contract, my only concerns were the names in the in the notice provisions, and then the um the mediation is limited to Hood County, and I would state Tarrant County to that, so that we can go to full. Okay. All right. So,

right now there's a motion on the table to Well, do we have We just have discussion. Right now we have a motion on the table to approve this contract. We can rescind the motion, and then move to To be clear, to to Mr. Whitfield's point, the the motion on the table is to approve Dr. Morasky to sign and authorize these memoranda when Right. The actual recommendation on this memo for this particular item is to explains it here, but it says to be signed and executed by the superintendent of schools upon legal approval. So, we're kind of in the process right now. >> That's right. >> Um so, it wouldn't be signed until we had it. We have been in the process, but um because we were trying to get this through because of the timing.

Um So, who made the motion? Um Ms. Townsend, and it was seconded by Ms. Alana to approve the The language for the motion is to approve two memorandums of understanding for emergency transportation with Camp El Tesoro and Camp Crucis. That is the motion. >> Then, right. So, we can You can move to rescind your motion, and we can change that language to just approve Dr. Morasky to sign the the MOUs once the legal stuff has been worked through, or we can just table it for the next meeting. It's not my motion to rescind. It's Ms. Alana or Ms. Townsend's motion. Our next meeting is June 8th, and I think with all the questions, I think we can slow it down till the next >> Are we going to do >> that? Mhm. >> Yeah, I

I don't feel comfortable speaking it through right now with all the questions. Okay, then I will send my motion. Okay, so now I will entertain a motion to table this agenda item for the next meeting. So moved. All right, so I have a motion by Mr. Bolton and a second by Dr. Lawrence to table this agenda item until next the next board meeting. Yes. Any discussion for the discussion about this? It's the motion to table. We're we're tabling it to the So it'll be on the next board meeting. >> the table? That's right. No, that's a postponement. No, postponement is within the same meeting. A table is to go to the next meeting. That's correct. It's right here. Here. >> [laughter] >> We're all going to know this before the end of this meeting. I

I've heard it other My life is a table. Yeah, postponing is which you delay it till it a later time within the same setting and a tabling is to delay it to a future meeting. >> Correct. Okay, so the motion is to table it to the next board meeting and I have a second motion by Mr. Bolton and a second by Dr. Lawrence. Any further discussion? Okay, all in favor raise your hand. Let the record show that the motion passes seven in favor, zero against. Okay, that concludes the consent agenda. Moving on to discussion action items. 13A, discuss and take action on upper level math curriculum for 2026-2027. Ms. Stacy Brown. The uh it's Carla Wilmeth. I'm sorry, Ms. Carla Wilmeth. I'll change the name for you. >> She's calling and said Good evening, board.

Um tonight, I want to not only introduce Denisa Mendel, but also recognize her. She's our 4th through 12th math and science coordinator, and she led our upper level mathematics adoption. And so, now she's going to share with you what the committee she and the committee did and answer any questions that you may have. Yeah, that's good. Hi, it's Miss Seal again. All right, so I'm here to talk to you about the secondary math adoption materials. It has been several years since the high school above Algebra 1 has looked at things. Um and so, with the new EMER process and the high-quality instructional materials process, we were ready to revisit those um courses at the high school level. So, kind of start That's where we started at is the state's high-quality instructional materials list. And so,

for geometry and Algebra 2, they had five options. Algebraic Reasoning, there was one option. And precalculus, there was one option that made it onto this high-quality instructional materials list. So, from that, we met with the teachers, or I met with the teachers. Um and we went through kind of what it is that they were looking for in those courses, developed a rubric from that, and then they also at that very first meeting looked at the state's EMER process rubrics. And from that, decided that they wanted to dismiss one of the options for geometry and Algebra 2. And so, they removed Kid from the running. And then, we met with the four other vendors. Three of those were able to come on a workday. So, the entire uh geometry and Algebra 2 team was present. One

of them did have to come in an after-school session. So, a few were not able to make it, but they still saw all four vendors that they were considering. And from that, then they went back and took the rubric and went through it and went through materials and made the recommendation of what they thought would be a good choice for geometry and algebra two, which was McGraw Hill. It just so happens that McGraw Hill was also the HQIM choice that was on the list for pre-cal, and then algebraic reasoning also had one as well. So, that's kind of the rundown. Um we did put it up for parent community comment. Um I received one email just asking about the process, but then there was no comments on any of the materials. Questions? And who who

made up the committee that was making these The geometry and algebra two teachers. Okay, good. So, I'll I'll say again that I appreciate that we're talking to the people who are closest to the task. Yes. Please explain HQIM. High-quality instructional materials. So, a couple of years ago the state started this new process, and they have a rubric and a process that they go through that's very very extensive. There's a large public comment time period through that, and then it goes before state board of education, and it gets either put onto the commissioner's high-quality instructional materials list as approved, or it can be rejected as well. Thank you. And we currently use Blue Bonnets in K through Algebra 1, and then this is for everything past that. >> Yes, ma'am. Any other questions? Yeah, you would

you would not elaborate on the line. Well, I will, yes. So, really what they got to when they got to the geometry and the algebra two is they really wanted to focus on preparing the students for post-secondary education or past um the high school. Um geometry and algebra two with Blue Bonnets, they have just started developing that. It's still in in early stages, so they didn't have a lot of those TSI, ACT, SAT prep pieces that some of the other vendors could offer us right now. But that is the nice thing with this new process is that if we want to look at those again in a year or 2 years and revisit that and add that in when they get those pieces developed out that we can do that in a much easier way

than what we used to because what used to be you tied down for 7 years, long contracts, extensive contracts. And this gives us that freedom of choice consistently to really find what fits best for our district and our needs. Wonderful. Thank you. Yes. Anything else? Well done. Yes, good job. Thank you. Thank you for all your time and your commitment and uh making sure that we're all working together to do what's best for our kids and provide them the best uh learning opportunities. Thank you all. So this said discuss and take action. Are we supposed to take action on this item for anything? Um no. Yeah, we do. We vote on it. Yes, we do. We do vote on it for this board. And thank you for the Thank you for that. Um it was

part of consent agenda. So we talked about it in small group session. We moved it to here. We do need you to vote on it and it will be added to that group of um the table that you voted on for TEKS resources from I think last session um or in May, I can't remember two [clears throat] two two meetings ago. Um so yes, you do need to vote on it. Thank you for that. Okay. So uh do I have a motion to approve the upper level math curriculum as presented? So moved, Madam President. >> Okay, I have a motion by Mr. Moore. Do I have a second? Second. And a second by Mr. Bolton. And do I have any further discussion? Okay, all in favor, raise your hand. Let the record show the motion

passes 7 to 0, all in favor. Our next item is discuss and take action on board goals for the district presented by Dr. Courtney Marousky. Yeah, and board members, uh as a reminder and for anyone watching online, um the board worked really hard on uh setting some goals for next year. These are uh goals that we have uh set based on our strategic plan. As a reminder, strategic plan was developed in 2023 with a lot of input from a lot of places, a lot of community members. And so, these were, uh, derived, straight from that. The neat thing about these goals that the board developed are the first four bullet points are pulled directly from priority one, which is student achievement. So, there are four priorities in our strategic plan. The first one's about student

achievement. Um, the next the last three bullet points are the other three priorities, but we do feel like as a board and as a district we should be concentrating on student achievement and student well-being the first, uh, the most. Um, I also want to make sure that we know the first bull- the first four bullet points are well-rounded, uh, student items. So, we have the first one about advanced academic achievement and growth for every student. Second one is prepare every student for college, career, and/or military success. Next one is maintain safe, supportive, and connected learning environments. Uh, and the last one is champion extracurricular involvement that builds character and excellence. So, all four of those, we do those really well. We're going to have students that leave our system ready to, um, be future-ready. And

so, that's really important. You'll notice our vision at the top is every every learner is valued, successful, and future-ready. The other three are about our system and how that we are being efficient. So, recruit, develop, and retain high-quality staff is still very important. Strengthen student, family, and community partnerships also still very important. And the last one, of course, is steward- steward respons- steward resources responsibly through transparent planning and budgeting. For those of you who don't know, um, these goals will direct all of the goals that our district, uh, that drives our district going forward. So, we will take these. They'll, um, my my superintendent goals will be created from these. Our district improvement plan goals will be created from these. Our campus improvement goals will be created from these. Classroom and teacher goals and principal

goals and everything will be based on these. So, I'm I'm for the board for taking these seriously. Um and being uh very intentional with these. You'll notice every word on this document means something. We had a lot of conversations about them, so I'm excited for them to um today we put discussed, but if you want to go ahead and adopt them, we're going to get busy um on this uh because it gives clear direction on everything that we do. So, I'm grateful for the time spent discussing it. Um our character excellence opportunity and future ready are important words and um I'm just excited, so any discussion? I I like the acronym CEO, character excellence opportunity. >> [laughter] >> All right. Along with my thanks to Dr. Morasky for uh guiding us in this, I move

that we accept the proposed board goals and alignment framework for uh implementation beginning the next school year, 2026-2027 school year. Okay, have a motion by Mr. Bolton to approve the board goals for the district. Do I have a second? Second. And a second by Dr. Lawrence. Any further discussion? Okay. One thing I'd like to make sure that we bring up and we need to remember as a board is anything that we then put on our agenda, anything that we bring forward also should always be looked at as where does that fall in here? And if it doesn't fall in here, then we have to decide whether or not it's something we as a board need to be spending time on. It's a good uh guardrail map for us to keep us focused on our governance

role as a board. Go ahead. I also want to thank Dr. Morasky for her leadership on this and I want the community to understand I think this is an exciting time for Granbury ISD because I think this is going to chart a new path for us and as we seek to make sure that every single child in our community has the best education possible going forward. And I think these are the goals they're going to help get us there and I think that this is the vision that's going to make us successful. Absolutely agree. We we're really have enjoyed uh the meetings that we've had working on this together and all your thought and effort and hard work that went into developing this. Thank you so much. Any further discussion? All right, hearing none. All

in favor to approve the board goals for the district as presented by Dr. Courtney Marouski, raise your hand. Let the record show the motion passes seven in favor, zero against. Next up is item 13C, district local policy updates. Dr. Courtney Marouski. Yes, thank you, Madam President. We have two policies in front of you for discussion tonight. Um they are discussion only tonight. Uh they are local policies. As a reminder, local policies are based on our um legal policies, but this is where we have some wiggle room. So, tonight um I'm bringing in forward to you two items or two policy policies that were discussed in our our um district policy committee. Uh but and I'll explain to you where each one of them uh originated. The first one really is um to allow the superintendent,

in this case being me at this moment, uh to have some ability in the hiring process in our district. Uh it has become very apparent that the state of education is changing and changing quickly. Um so, in the past um our policy was based that the superintendent could hire at the teacher level during the summer. Um but the hiring season has changed for education um drastically. As you know, we hire year round now. And so, when you look at districts like Alito, the superintendent has the hiring power um to hire and I used the example with the board during um a conversation that if a um district like Weatherford has their meeting and they did um last week, if somebody was going to be hired is waiting to see which which board had their meeting

first and Weatherford had their board meeting on May 11th, which they did, um then we can very well lose a quality candidate just based on when board meetings fall. So, um we based this uh policy uh off Elido model and I'm asking you to review this this month and look at it, but this does give the ability for the superintendent to hire, um but to update the board just like we do every month where we go into closed session and we discuss all of the hires. So, please consider this um this month and we can discuss it again if we need to in closed session. So, that is DC local um and you can see that that is um uh the red and blue line, your favorite version. I put that in there for some

of you who love that. I don't know if you do. >> [laughter] >> Perfect. Okay. All right. And then the next one for you to consider is the DEC local. Um and this was really came up in our policy committee as well. This was designed to match a practice that's going on. Um many times we have um come together as a policy committee and said, "Oh man, we don't That's not what we do. We do this." Um and this is one of those things that has happened. So, um we have in our policy that you may not uh take any more than three consecutive days off um with supervisor approval. And so, that's not what happens everywhere um in in every department. So, remember if it's policy, uh that means that it happens everywhere. This

is the code um that we follow, but we know that we have some employees that work on campuses, some employees that work year round, some that don't work in different departments. And so, um in a lot of cases uh people that work year round do take five days in a row with supervisor approval. So, what we've done is to designed this um local policy to reflect really what we do. It still, uh, it says five consecutive work days, but, uh, they have to follow our administrative regulations, which really define how that gets approved. So, it talks about making sure that we are not, um, we are are not hindering education. We we can still operate the district. We have enough substitutes. Those things are in there. So, um, I uh, hope that you will, uh,

look over this policy and be ready next month to vote on this. As a reminder, we try to slow these things down when we can. Um, so that you have time to consider that. So, those are my two uh, recommended policy changes that we'll vote. These will be in the consent agenda next month for you to vote on, unless you have any questions about that. So, this these two items, yeah, these two policy updates are discussion only. Yeah. And it's really to align policy with what's currently the practice. Well, the second one is the the first one very much would be a change. Um, the first one is, although June 1, we do have some authority to hire because that's what's in our local policy right now, um, we would like that to be year-round,

um, and so that would be a change. Um, yes. Okay. Appreciate that. Thank you. It seems to make sense for you in order for you to be able to do your job and then for the district to keep moving forward that just because of the reality that we live in, we need our policy to align with what actually happens. >> [laughter] >> So, can I just ask a clarification question to make sure I understand? The first one, you're just asking for the authority to make a hiring decision in your office without having to come back to the board for that to to bless it. Is that right? Well, So, if a quality candidate, yes, so if a quality candidate was to walk in and they're interviewing here in Weatherford and Cleburne and you want to

hire them, you want the authority to hire them right now before they go to Cleburne. Yes. And to be clear, you already have that authority. We No. No. No. Just not during that time. Only June 1st through September 15th or something. It's the authority that you already have. It's the timing. We're We're giving her that authority throughout the year. >> right. >> Not just during a certain time frame of the year. Yes, but contractual employees. So, there's a there's a couple of changes. So, I do encourage you to look. So, yes, the timing but also just the they contract So, right now we hire hourly hourly employees right now. All hourly employees. We do not bring those to the board. So, this would include everyone that has a contract as well. So, it is not

only timing but it's all contract employees as well. So, it would be everybody. >> Um you It would be the hiring of employees. And so, I would notify the board and then is in here that the superintendent shall inform the board of any persons offered a term contract under this authority. So, it look and feel the same to you guys. I would bring it to you in the same way. But, we wouldn't be waiting for you to vote on it. So, you wouldn't come out and vote on it. It would be the difference. And when you think about it, we're the only You're the only employee we have. Yeah. We've given you the job Right. to run the school district with the people that you believe are the right ones. Right. So, to me it's

only logical. And it it does really help us. For instance, in special ed where those jobs go fast, it would be very nice to be able to hire people immediately. I know I hear that a lot from that group and other places. Hard to fill hard to fill jobs as well, especially. Yes. >> Okay. And so, this is also discussion. Only take the next month to look this over. So, we're ready to vote on it at the next meeting. Okay, next action item 13D. Discussion and possible action to nominate a trustee for TASB Board Region 11 Position C. Dr. Courtney Rawlston. Yes. So, we did you you, President. We did receive notification that there is a board seat that will be open for nominations from the TASB board. So, they are asking if anyone if

any of the regional board members would like to be nominated. We do have information that the current seat is being held by Justin Chappa and that that person is planning to seek re-election. But, it is on the table if the board would like to re-elect or to not re-elect, excuse me. If they would like to nominate somebody, we do have that option. >> So, this is for a nomination for someone other than Justin Chappa. >> Absolutely. Thank you for that clarification. Does anybody Madam President, do can we nominate someone without their permission or can Well, you can nominate it's it's a professional courtesy. >> [laughter] >> We had a kind of a discussion. I I know that there's several of us who think that we have two candidates here on this board that could serve.

Now, would be matter of would be matter of your time commitment and all the other things and and the two that I'm thinking about and I can just say it straight out, Barbara Townsend and Courtney Gore. You're already committed to so much, but if you were to consider it, I would love to be able to nominate you, but if you decide not to and I get the slap in the face and the kickback, I have no problem with it. I am humbled and honored by your confidence in both me and Barbara. I would politely decline the nomination. I've got enough going on right now and I don't think that I would be able to serve in that role well at this point in time considering everything else that I have going on, uh you know,

family obligations, work, school board, Leadership TASB. Uh so, I would I would politely decline, but I'm very uh very humbled and honored by the by the nomination or the the words. Thank you for the offer, but at this time I'm not interested, and uh Justin Chapa is a excellent candidate who's already doing a fantastic job. Yes, he's doing a great job. And to be clear, we don't vote on this, right? There's a TASB board that votes on this. We would just be >> be asked to offer another nomination. >> We would just be Yes, correct. Yeah. All right, so am I hearing no action? All right, no action on this. And with no further business, the time is now 7:43 p.m., and we are adjourned. Adjourned.
