All right, it is 7 o'clock and we do have a quorum present. We will begin. Gentlemen, if you would remove your cover and we'll begin with prayer. >> Holy Father God, we thank you for today and all that you richly blessed us with. We thank you for the opportunity to discuss the school's business and we ask that you help us as we do so to keep the kids best interest at heart. Here God, pray that you uh watch over us and keep us safe. Pray that you forgive us where we fall short of your glory with our s In Christ we pray. Amen. >> Anyone sign to speak? >> No sir. >> All right. Cardinal spotlight. >> This month I bother Miss Miss Hal and her milk judging team. Um state qualifiers. I think the
only one I know about since we've been here um as far as the judging teams and they did a really good job. maybe give her an opportunity to talk about them or give them an opportunity to say a little bit about their experience and what what milk judging is and what it entails. >> Um, so I'm missing a couple. We're missing Clarissa and Colin, but these two got them to show up. Um, do you want to tell them what it is what you do? >> So, of course, judging. So you're doing your milks and you're doing your butter. You're doing well dairy and non-dairy which is like butter, sour cream, margarine types of things. And then we have cheeses which are different type of cheeses that you have to taste. And then we have our
written exam which we got 25 questions on them which over 300 questions. They take 25 questions out and you have to do the yes or no and stuff like that. And then you have math part which is five uh five problems which is pretty hard math. Um but it's it's really fun. I think you got to do the >> we have like different types of milk like rancid acid malti and it goes on and our cheeses you know we have the bree cream cheddar processed American all those types of things and then we have the dairy non-dairy which you have to identify is it dairier than non-dairy is it made by human or you know or something like that and then you have the uh fat percentages which you have to do for them. Um,
so like sour cream is what it say 18. But you can have non-dairy sour cream and you just put non non fat on it. And so it's pretty difficult to go through for what is it two two and a half hour ordeal um standing up all the time and everything like that. You got wait for your, you know, stuff. And thankfully, we made it out and we went to stay with it. So, >> you have to taste everything. >> Yeah, taste everything. So, that your pallet's got to be pretty good. >> There's some for sure. Um, it's really hard just because kids get sick, allergies, and so I'm constantly telling them to take allergy medicine before contests. I mean, everyone's palette's different, so I think it's a really cool contest and it's something that I
tell some kids and they're like, "Damn, no, I will not do that." Because they walk in and we've got milk in our mouths and we don't Well, some of us don't drink it and we spit it out and they're watching us and they're like, "Absolutely not." But these four stepped it up and decided to try out this very weird contest and we're pretty successful at it. I think we ended up, I think, 48th in the state. Um, Okay. 46. My bad. Um, not as great as we would always hope for, but it's tough. It's a tough contest and walking in and you've got all white cheeses whenever you think there might be a couple yellow stuff. No, they're just all white. But yeah, it's pretty cool fun experience for these guys. >> And we had
a send off for them and I think they were led by milk. >> We're proud of you guys. Thank you for watching. Y'all have to stay superintendent. We're I know we talk about it every month. We're pretty proud of this with our enrollment being so high and our and our attendance rate remaining remaining high. Um, you know, like our goal is always, um, our goal has been 95%. We've been at, you know, 96 and 97 almost almost every month. Um, so the the way you're funded is, you know, you're not you're not funded on your enrollment, you're funded on your attendance rate. Um, so I mean, just to make the math simple, if you have 200 kids in school and you have a 90% attendance rate, you only get money for 180 kids. I mean,
even even though even though you're educating them all and you got the same amount of bills, same amount of expenses. Um, so having having that high attendance rate is really is really important. Um, and and being that much higher than our than our goal is is we're pretty proud of. Um, next page, expenditure report. Um, where we're at um by function. There will be some um budget amendments later later down the later down the actions, but I mean we're we're we're sitting we're sitting good trying to trying to remain within our um within our means. U also included uh in here uh a roofing proposal. Um this is a group we had out and this it's not for action. It's really just for um looking at um right now. Um this is a proposal to
fix that seam um on the gym wall from where the metal um meets the meets the brick. Um I'll probably defer to Jerry on on some of this especially if um he doesn't know yet, but U what this process is right here is u it's like a three layer system. You put on a coat of epoxy, then you put on like a a another a layer of fabric, then you put on another coat of epoxy. Basically, they want to just seal that entire seam up. Um and hopefully fix the problem. You know, I don't I like the idea of it. Um I don't know how it' look. um you know because you know our building is a focal point and having a big stripe across your gym um >> I don't know it looks like
a band-aid but I mean this is just one option you know we're going to we're going to keep looking at ways to um ways to fix the gym roof like this this is $4,500 um and basically you're welding welding the seam together to make sure it doesn't leak um >> thank guarantee. >> Uh they they do guarantee it it to not leak where it is, but it doesn't guarantee if the leak's somewhere else. Um >> just >> But so if the if the leak's higher, we'll it would rule out that being the problem. If it solves the problem, which it could, great. you know, if it doesn't, the leak somewhere else and then you might potentially have a bigger problem when you weld all those panels together, you know. So, it's just one one idea
now. And we're going we're just going to keep looking at options to to figure out what's, you know, best in the meantime. Uh, Balaria is Sunday. Sunday at 5:00 p.m. 5 p.m. First Baptist Church. If I remember something, I'll come come back to it. Um, but as far as the next next meeting date, um, June 15th, third Monday If that works good June 15th principal report. >> Okay. Um, just a reminder, we have senior graduation. It's May 22nd at 7 p.m. Um, 8th grade graduation that night before May 21st at 7 p.m. If y'all will be here about 6:30, 6:45, we'll walk down. We'll be on stage and be ready for that. But the same thing we did last year, everybody will stand up there and then whoever's given that diploma, you'll just step over
there. So kids can talk to you and so you know who's to give and that kindergarten graduation is May 20th at 9:00 a.m. You do not have to be here for that, but if you want to, you certainly can. Um, elementary music programs May 19th. Um, transfers, we've received all those. We will be meeting with the transfer committee probably next week and then we'll send letters out towards the end of May of current students that we're welcoming back and then new students that have applied if they get in or not. And then just had a foundation meeting and they approved um to purchase all school supplies for all students and teachers for next year. So if somebody says where's there's no school supply list, there doesn't have to be. The foundation is taking care of
that. So when they show up first day of school, it's all taken care of and teachers are also getting school supplies for themselves. So see those foundation guys tell them we appreciate that and I know a lot of parents and families appreciate that too. Um they also approve to do Chromebooks for third grade. Everybody move up with their Chromebook. U but third grade since they don't have a Chromebook assigned to them, they'll have one through this next year. So, they approved to buy about $8,000 worth of Chromebooks. So, I believe that is all for the principal's report. >> I did miss something and I hate that I missed it. Teacher appreciation. I know in the past the board's waited till the, you know, the last day, last day of school being that um Friday, the
graduation day to to provide a meal and just wanted to open it up to see if that's something still want to still want to do participate in serve if you can. Um but in in practice that's that last day that last day of inservice has been the day that the board has provided that. >> Is that something we want to do again? >> Okay. But I can help, you know what I mean? But I won't physically be >> sure that'll be May 22nd. We have a half day staff work day of graduation practice that graduation even are our seniors having to apply for our foundation scholarships. >> They do. They fill out an application. >> Okay. Have Have they have we received any? >> They all have they all filled it out. >> Yeah. and
they they know that if they don't go to a college or a trade school, they won't get the money. But they they still I still try to get them >> I encourage them all to fill it out. >> Yes. >> Athletic report. >> Wrapped up all our sports this weekend. baseball won their first ever by district and lost to Hamlin in uh on Thursday which is the uh regional quarterfinal round. Hamilton's really good and so our boys had a really good season. Um softball made it to the regional semi-final round. Lost to Cross Plains. A lot of those guys and girls got tons and tons of all district honors and all the all state stuff will come out soon. It'll be due soon. Um we had the regional track meet last met. I had nine
kids compete in that. Nobody advanced to state, but competed really hard. And our region is what they call the region of death because it's so competitive. Lots of really good athletes in there. Um wrapped up junior high tennis. They had um that a couple or last week. And junior high golf as well. And so um they're all finished up there. We had our sports banquet, our high school sports banquet last Sunday that was done by the uh booster club. It was really good. Had lots of people there. got to honor our kids and stuff. Just take a couple weeks off and summer's here. Operations report. Um really haven't had a whole lot going on the last couple of weeks other than just normal maintenance and transportation type stuff. did um get a chance to go
through the housing that our old or I'll say our coaches that are leaving um going through and kind of getting a list together as far as what we'll need to be kind of done to them to get them ready for the new step. So, just added that to the summer work list and kind of sat down and went through and made a detailed list as far as what needs to be done, maintenance, transportation, um, in the building, and a pretty good list for the summer kids that will be helping us. So, other than that, we've been just plugging along. So, council report Um Marcus was the senior of the month for April of the Rotary Club. So he went he went to that on um April 25th. We had regional academic UIL. And Cameron Grimes
tied for seventh in this overall science and tied for third in biology. So she didn't advance on but she represented us very well. Um and Deja joined myself and Mrs. Anderson and we had a fun day. Um on April 28th was the freshman orientation and the dual credit meeting. Um we had a great turnout. All the all the incoming next year freshman showed up. >> And we had eight um for the dual credit meeting. Those are typically your new dual credit kids. The kids that are already in dual credit usually don't come because it's the same they've already been. Um all of our seniors are now CPR certified and trained in how to interact with law enforcement. On May 7th, we had our we went to WTC graduation and Miss Anderson and I took a
group of juniors and seniors in Brooklyn and Cameron both graduated with their associates degree. On May 13th, tomorrow, that's tomorrow, at 8:00 a.m. we're having um a WTC signing event. So Braden and Marcus will sign their intent, I guess that's what it is, to go to WTC. Um it's kind of a it's a new thing this year. WTC called us and wanted to to set that up and come out. So we're doing that tomorrow. We will have our end of course uh test results on May 22nd. Um and depending on those scores um will determine summer school if we have to have summer school. We're hoping they all pass and we don't. But if we do, we'll do that June 1st through 4th and then the 8th through the 11th. So it's Monday through Thursday
for two weeks. Then the following week we'll retest if we need to. Uh third through eight star results come out the following Friday on May 29th. >> A report. >> We just got done with our district banquet. We had two students that served as voting delegates who just vote on who the new district officers will be and talent teams. So we got that done last week and then this week we leave tomorrow for area two convention. I'm thinking that will take seven kids maybe also. Um we will have voting delegates there that will then vote for officers on the level and um as well as the talent teams on the It's really fun. They get to go to They throw a dance tomorrow night. So, I think the kids really enjoy it. They like going
and getting a good meal, meeting all these other kids, too. Um, we also had our chapter banquet. I can't remember the day. >> Tuesday. Tuesday. Um, and got kids recognized and awarded and had a good meal and I got spoiled, too. So, they really Um, we've got area leadership camp in June, state convention in July, but finishing off. >> Oh yeah, we did welding certifications today. So, three out of the four kids were present and all three of those kiddos passed. Um, that is a lot harder of certification than I could ever imagine. I have never had kids go that route. I did different certifications before, but they are picky. Um, and so we got three kids passed. We have one that was not here today. And so we're going to try and get them
sorted out this week. Either take them there, have them do it here, take the welds to go get looked at. But we're All right. Next up is to discuss the TRS active care insurance rates for 26 27 school year. All right. Teachers haven't shared this. So you guys are the only one that has seen it so far. It's not really not really good news. Sorry guys. Um no. So these are the rates. Um This middle column is what we're paying currently, 2526. That was um our own plan um because we got out of the pool that that failed. Um so getting back into TRS, which is the, you know, the statewide health insurance um plan, the green column is what our rates will be next year. Um so if you look at employee and family,
so which is what we take out. You know, it's $2,300 a month. Um, >> a month. So, that's more than what some people make. Um, you know, but that that comes getting back into TRS because they want to make you pay for it because it hasn't been five years, which was the original. You have to stay out five years. Um that far column on the right is what everyone else is paying for the same plan. Um that's what it'll look like next year. Um like not this coming not the next year but the next year it'll look more like that far right column. U but that green column is what what our rates will be for 2627. >> Now Mr. does this have the 450? >> It does not. >> Okay. Um it so the
the district and the state the state contributes what? $75. >> No, the state contributes nothing. That's an old thing. >> So the district contributes $450 per employee. So So if you subtract $450 from each of these, that's what that employee would pay um out of pocket or or out of, you know, deduction. make sure before I pick you up. >> Yeah. So that I tried to compare, you know, apples to apples. So that that top that top tier is the cheapest insurance right there. Um high deductible. Um that middle tier is, you know, better coverage, lower deduct, lower deductible. Or maybe it's maybe it's opposite, but it it it shows you our rates currently in the middle section compared to what they'll be next year. >> Yeah. So an employee and spouse will pay 1,400
a month and insurance. >> So basically $1,000 a month. >> No, 1400 you take away. >> But with the add >> Yeah. So subtract 450 from 1835. >> Oh yeah. >> They'll be pay 1400 mortgage. So the diff the difference in what we are pay what we will pay and what region 14 will pay is the penalty for getting back into TRS. >> But we only pay that for one year. >> Yeah. And and it is I mean it's a lot better insurance than we just going to be more expensive next year. >> And that's that's not dental and vision or anything. >> No. >> Or cancer or nothing. That's just >> just going to cogn. did they pay this year >> that this this middle one is what they pay currently. >> So like
employee and children will go down >> if you look at it like that. >> Employee will go up $60 a month. Employee and spouse will go up 600. >> Employee and children will go down. >> Employee and family will go up 500. break. >> Uh I knew you get ask that question, >> but no, we do. We can get it as far as how many employees take which one. And not everybody takes school. >> I mean, a lot of our I'd say about half don't take our insurance. >> It's cheaper to have insurance. I'm just >> Yeah. So there's that good news. Other questions, discussions, >> complaints. >> All right. Discuss rural pathway excellent partnership program. >> Okay. This this is a program that's been in existence for a few years. Um, I met with
the service center um, last week and we were going to look at this coming year as kind of a a plan year to see if um, see if it works out. U, but what what this is, it's like a collaboration of small schools. It's essentially where small schools can share CTE pathways. Um, like being a small school, you can't offer a lot of the things that big schools do, but some schools offer different things than us. And it would allow us to send our kids to a different school for a CTE program, but also allow a different school to send their kids here for a CTE program. Um, for for instance, like u met with Lorraine, Ira, Colorado City. U Lraine and Ira are pretty comparable. Um, Colorado City obviously with their size has a
lot more offer. It's like they offer Hback, you know, it's something that we can't do. I mean, we don't have the infrastructure to do it, but if we had a kid interested in it, we were part of this program, you know, we could send our kid over there for Hback. Uh, it doesn't cost any money. We'll get the same amount of money um for our CTE. Um, but whatever school serves that kid just gets extra money. Um, A big thing among the other schools was, you know, our culinary program. Um, none of the other schools have a culinary program and they were really interested in wanting to join basically to, you know, to send their kids to our culinary program. I haven't talked to Miss Gibson about it, but it it's one of those things
that like it's how how successful it's been and how like how, you know, what they do for the community and things. Um, other schools see that and they they essentially want to use our culinary program for their kids. You know, >> sometimes I worry about space. Um, but you know, money, we would get extra money. It it doesn't affect the money that we get. We would essentially get extra money. Um, and we don't we don't have to do this at all. Um, but it's just kind of what some small rural schools there's. Um, so there there's 10 10 programs like this in in Texas. Um, with the closest being um say Dion and Gustine, they share um CTE programs, but you know, if and the board will end up having to make a decision on
this. uh if it's something you want to keep looking at. Um this year we're just looking at it, deciding if it's feasible. Um but at some point, you know, we'll have to make a decision as as far as if this is something we want to pursue. But like I said, we're we're just barely getting off the ground. Um wanted wanted you to know what was going on. >> Do any of those other schools offer like anything in the medical that they have a medical >> um IRA does um >> I know we have a lot CNA >> CNA Yeah. Yeah. >> or something. >> All they're doing is welding. All they're that's all they're doing right now. Uh they're they're thinking about doing like an education program for like teacher preparation. Um, but we don't
I mean we haven't even talked to our kids as far as like is there something else that we don't have that they're interested in. You know, there's still a lot of conversations to be had with these other schools as well as, you know, our own there's logistics, there's transportation, you get re you get funded for it. Uh, I mean, if you have to transport a kid to IRC city, you get like $5 a mile. um to transport them um >> per trip. >> Yes. Yeah. $5 a mile. >> That's nice. >> So, there's a little bit money there's a little bit of money to had be had. There's a whole lot of planning to be done for. >> All right. Next up is to discuss board training. >> Okay. I sent you an email from
the service center. There's a couple different things right here. Um, this first one is a board conference on June 6th. Um, it's $50 for a member. It's not it's not like a mandatory one. It's one that you can go to if you want to get eight hours um towards board training. Uh, but Bridget and I were talking earlier like a lot of those online trainings that we do over here, those also count towards four training hours, but if you wanted to go to the service center for a day and knock out, um, just let me know if you want to do that on June 6th. Um, these other three trainings, ISO training, um, those are required every two years. The last time we did it was two years ago, January. Um, so you get ISO
and team of eight training at the same time, but everybody has to show up. So you basically get um you get six hours of credit for three hours of training. U but these these have to be in person. Um not everybody has to show up to get ISO credit, which is three hours, but everybody has to show up to get ISO and team of eight, which you get six hours for three. Um, and this is a new, they've revamped it and redone it. It's one, it's you don't get through in two hours anymore. It's a three, it's a threehour training. Uh, that gets uh recorded TEA monitors. You got to do get your certificate through TEA. Uh, these are the current ones set up through the summer. Um, June 8th at Eastland, June 15th at
Bulon, July 20th at Sweetwater. Um, those those are all open right now. Um, there will be more. There will be more later on, but these are just the current ones. If y'all see any of those that you would like to attend, >> that is July the 20th. Okay, >> that's the way it got sent. But now that I'm looking at it, I mean, it could have been June. kind of the 15th at Deion is kind of sorted out. If we're having a meeting that night at >> it would be hard to have the training >> and then have the meeting as well. >> Any of the other dates look good to the rest of the people? >> Yes, it is. >> Okay. The last time we did our team of eight though, we did that
here and had someone come in, correct? Yeah. >> Is that still an option? >> Uh, possibly. I tried to get one here. Um, but it's one of it's one of those things that because it has to be recorded and all that, the service center tries to get multiple at one time. So, it's not out of the question. Okay. >> Down the road. We want to keep this on the back burner or do we want to uh look at one of these dates try to do together? >> But there will be more. We want to shoot for July the 20th. Sweetwater. >> What day of the week is that? >> That's a Monday. >> Usually it's in the It says 6:30 to 10 and it'll probably take every bit of that. So, there'll be multiple boards
at one time. >> You're not You're not an owl. That's what you're saying. >> I go to sleep at 8:30. We want to tenatively book July the 20th to go to Sweetwater >> and then if other opportunities come up that would better suit us later on, we can >> move it. >> We probably have all the way up to that date to register. Okay. Next up is to consider and take action to adopt an order canvasing returns and declaring results of bond election. Um so this is what we used to certify our um our votes. Uh the overall count was 107 against and 64 64. Um Mr. backard. Not put him on the spot, but he ran our he he ran our he ran our election in here and he uh he sent me the
unofficial results immediately after. Um but then we had to um canvas all those votes and break it down. I had to re hand recount them. Probably did it four times because once you get once you get high enough and sort them through scantrons, um you you lose you lose count. But um I hand counted the early voting was really easy. There was three and I can count that high. Uh but uh the election day or that was the mail in voting there. You can see the early voting um and the election day voting also attached u you know hand I count handc counted those three and four times just to make sure and they didn't they matched. Um, so to formally approve these election results, um, someone would just have to make a motion as
as listed at the bottom of that page. They are accurate. >> I'll make a motion we accept. So motion's been made and seconded. Is there any further discussion? All in favor? 70. Next is to approve board minutes from the April 20th regular board meeting. Motion has been made and seconded to approve the board minutes as written. Any further discussion? All in favor? 7. Next is the approval of payment of bills and investment report. Second. >> Motion's been made and seconded. Bridget. >> Yes. Is there any further discussion? All in favor? 70. Next is consider and take possible action to fill board vice president vacancy. Is there anyone volunteering to fill that position? I'll make a motion to approve. >> Second. >> So, a motion has been made and seconded to approve Blaine Minton volunteering for
the vice presidency vacancy. Is there any further discussion? All those in favor? 70. Next on our list is to consider and take possible action on the approval of library book library books. >> Um so th this is the list of library books that we've acquired through the book fair. Um you know they've been they've been purchased they've been vetted. Um, Miss Kiana does a good job of communicating the the book list and um, and our school board is the library book approver. So, we're recommending that these be approved for the library. >> I'd like the motion to approve. >> Have a motion and a second to approve the uh, library books as presented. Is there any further discussion? All those in favor? 7. Next is consider and take possible action to the auditing services for
the year ending August the 31st, 2026. U this is the firm that we have a established relationship with. They do they do a good job um on our annual audit also requiring for approval for continuing their services. We have a motion and a second to approve auditing services for the year ending August 31st, 2026. Is there any further discussion? All those in favor. Next is to consider and take possible action to approve budget amendments. And up in the blue section, you can see um I have 66,885 as a revenue to um amend. And then these expenditures down below match that. What that is, it's stuff the um foundation has donated, but we still have to budget for that expenditure. Even though they have given us the money for it, that budgeting has to be in
there. The auditors will den,000 is the employee bonuses and the 26,000 is the additional rent house repairs and the cafe serving table. Down here in the 599 portion, that 1.4 million is where we moved our bond money that we had collected for our two our final bond. We moved that into what they call a defeasance account. And so that is to cover the entry showing that we moved that to the defeasance account. So that was the balance on our 2017 bonds. I think it was 55,000 in taxes that we saved. So um and then our revenue was just we actually collected interest and u we got some money from the state we weren't expecting. So that's why the revenue is on. >> I make a motion to approve. >> We have a motion and a
second to approve the budget amendments as presented. Is there any further discussion? All in favor 70. We >> have a motion and a second to adjourn the meeting at 7:44 p.m. All in favor? 73.
