have a quorum present. If you would remove your cover and bow with me and we'll open with a word of prayer. Father God, we thank you for today and all that you richly blessed us with. We thank you for the opportunity to gather together tonight to discuss the matters of this school. Dear God, pray that you help us to keep the the interests of our kids at heart. Dear God, pray that you uh help us to uh go through the business that's necessary. And dear God, pray that you watch over us and keep us safe as we depart from here. Dear God, forgive us where we fall short of your glory with our sin. It's in Christ's sweet and precious name we pray. Amen. >> Amen. >> Did we have anyone sign up for public
forum? Yes, sir. >> All right. Uh information category. Uh Cardinal Spotlight. >> Uh Cardinal Spotlight is the high school academic UIL. Um I know how many do you have, Miss >> 10 students. Um I know we have a couple here representing us. Um Cameron, she advanced to regionals uh in what subject? >> Science. Um and she'll be competing at I think our only regional qualifier um in science this Saturday. >> In St. Angelo. Um Reagan. >> What' you compete in? >> Calculated. >> Calculator. Um and we had a handful more. They just they just didn't make it here tonight. I know I know um Jerry's son Parker competed. I think he was our only boy, wasn't he? >> He was the only boy. >> So, we had nine girls and one boy compete UIL. Um
but they put in a lot of time and effort and so did our our our coordinator and our coaches and um we're we're proud of what they've done and representing our school. speeches ready. >> She's trying to sink back into her seat. >> But I know Cameron you were going to announce associates degrees which >> Yes. >> You're also >> Yep. She'll also be receiving her associates degree from WTC. So she'll be on that graduation day. So >> awesome. I know she spends a lot of time in Miss Anderson's room and getting a lot lot of work done. So, a lot of work that nobody really sees, but she does a very good job of that. And she never talks, too, so it's >> I'll keep up good work. >> Most definitely. Most definitely. >>
And y'all have to stick around. We're just glad y'all made it. >> Thank you. All right. Next up is superintendent report. >> All right. I did our um we do a 6 weeks PE report every week or every week every six weeks. And um kind of calculated our overall attendance today. We're we're real close to 97% for the year. um which at 260 plus kids that um 97% at 265 kids generates a lot more money than 95% and 240 kids. So um we're moving in the right direction on um on attendance even even even this month maintaining a over 95% which is our goal. So, um, compared this time last year, we're up 13 students, um, and up a entire percent at 96%. Uh, financial reports. Next, um, breaks down the, um, the functions and
where we are currently. um with with our spending overall. Um you'll see at the bottom right we're at 68% through our budget. Um and we were a little higher last year at this time. So we're on track. Um I don't know if this made the packet. Um it's actually just got to be a presentation and we got to get you to sign. Um so every year we have to do a safety audit but this year they started a safety audit um survey where we have to report um our compliance with u initiatives in different areas. Um are we good on our safety meetings? Are we good on our drills? Are we good on our training? Um are we good on our minimum safety standards? Um, so I I just had to go through there and
click a bunch of yes boxes. Um, even though we still have a little bit of time like this year we have to um purchase a ballistic shield um and a door breacher. Um, so that is that is something it's a an unfunded mandate from the state. Um, so every every campus has to have both of those uh on campus. So uh had Tammy order those this morning. So, so we are compliant. Um, but that's another thing this year. Um, also included in the survey is um an annual review of our um um exemption from having an u an armed law enforcement officer on campus every day. Uh which is a state state law. Every every district has to have a armed law enforcement officer on campus. But we um I think year before last uh
the board passed the good cause exemption just meaning we we're compliant um for armed personnel through a guardian program rather than having a um constant law enforcement present on campus. How >> many people do we have? >> Four people. >> So this will it's it's like 68 questions. It's it's about um you know just make making sure we're we're compliant, we have the right meetings and we have the right um staff and we have the right training and we are and that's where this this comes in and and once once y'all sign it this evening, I'll send it to the Texas School Safety Center and we'll we'll be complying on that form. And we still do. We we have a couple more drills to run this year, fire drills. Um and we have a spring
safety meeting that we still have to have, but we we usually do those in towards the end of the year after star testing so we're not taking up time during during um test preparation. Um, one other thing is after the election on um May 2nd, um the board will have to have a special meeting to canvas the votes to canvas the election. Um, and it'll have to take place between May uh May 11th through the 13th. Um, so if you if if you got your calendars and any one of those days works, um, the the next regular day for the regular meeting would be the 18th, that that week later. Um, so having a meeting that week before, you could either have a special meeting just to canvas the votes or have a regular meeting,
move the regular meeting back a week to canvas the election and and do the regular May election or May meeting at the same time. >> Is there going to be any conflict with her? >> If it means I only have to do one more packet, I'm >> there's a lot of payroll going on this week. um which keeps her pretty busy. But having two meetings is obviously two two agendas, two packets. >> I can do whatever. It'll be fine. I would like to do one all together. >> So the 11th Monday. Um does that work for everyone? >> Works for me >> on the 11th. Yes, sir. day right here on Monday. >> You good with that? >> March, May 11th. >> Yes. >> That would be a radius. >> That way just two birds
with one stone canvas. >> Yes. >> So the canvas and then the >> canvas can open. >> Yeah. Yeah, it'll be a regular meeting. It'll be it'll be during the meeting. >> Um just to be a a June, right? >> Yes. It's a formality where you report the um the voting by early voting, by uh mailin voting, by election day voting. Um it's really just making it making the unofficial results official at that point. Um, and that's all I have for the superintendent report. >> Okay, next up is principal report. >> Okay, we are winding the year down. Um, we are finishing up star testing. We got one more this week and we'll be done. Uh, some dates for y'all. Senior graduation. If you don't know, it's May 22nd at 700 p.m. in the gym.
Um, if you have kids that you want to give their diploma, have the kid talk to you. I don't need to know. And just as the kid comes up, you'll step around to be able to give that diploma like we've done in the past. Um, eighth grade graduation, same thing. That'll be May 21st on that Thursday at 7 p.m. Um, kindergarten graduation and prek awards is May 20th at 9:00 a.m. You do not have to be here for that one, but if you want to, you certainly can be. Um, and then high school. >> What time on the 20th? 9:00 a.m. Uh, and then elementary music program is May 19th at 9:00 a.m. You don't have to be here for that, but that's it's kind of our last big deal with all the elementary kids.
Uh, and then WTC graduation, we'll have two students receiving their associates degree. Uh, Brooklyn Oakland and Cameron Grimes. That is May 7th, 10:00 a.m. Usually we send our W our dual credit students over there to watch her, especially the ones that are in their grades that are junior seniors that have kind of seen it to kind of prepare for that. >> And any senior that wants to go also >> any senior to kind of help >> show them what it looks like, trying to encourage them. So that's all I have for the principal report. Just finishing up and getting everything checked off. athletic report. >> Uh been really crazy busy. Uh wrapped up junior high track. Um only to follow by junior high tennis. Uh we had the the junior high district track meet on.
Uh good Friday. Just the way the schedule worked out for the spring. Uh went really good. Had a bunch of kids uh do a lot of good things. Uh had our district trap meet that was at IRA uh two weeks ago. I think we got I think it was 11 boys out and we had uh seven girls get out to area. We had that on Friday, the area track meet and we had eight boys advanced to regionals and three girls advanced to regionals in that. Um golf wrapped up at district. We had a girls team and a boys team. I think it's the first time we've had a girls team in the 12 years I've been here. We've had individuals, but it was the first time we had a team. Um Axel got out as
an individual. He competed at regionals. Um shot a a year best PR for him. Um and then he turned around and went in tennis. We have kids there now. Um they're supposed to start playing at 8. They didn't start playing till after 4 um because of the rain and they're going on right now and we'll see how they go. It's it's losing. You're out. Um boys in baseball were dish champs back to back and so that's really awesome. Last year was the first time they had won in school history and so they doubled down. Um softball won district championship and uh playoffs for softball start this week on Thursday. Baseball starts um on Tuesday. It'll be a one game on Tuesday and so >> next week. >> Yeah, next week. Tuesday. Not >> at home.
>> Uh the the baseball game will be at IRA. >> Oh. >> And the softball games is at Ira Thursday. Just the one and then the two are Friday here. And so, um, >> can we know who we're playing? >> Uh, boys are playing Westbrook and the girls are playing. >> Little crazy there, but um, junior high tennis, like I said, started off um, and they're all over the place. They were at, uh, C City last week. They were at Snyder the week before. That's fun to watch. There are lots of learning going on there. So, and then junior high golf is starting off. There's uh I think it's the second week of May, they'll have the junior high golf uh tournament and they just play nine holes, so it's a little quicker that way.
It's winding down, but it's still crazy. All right, operations report. >> Yeah, this month has been actually pretty chill. I hate to say that because I know probably tomorrow everything will kind of probably blow up. Um but yeah, outside of track meets and things like that, baseball, softball games, just kind of keeping the facilities up and running um for that. Um just kind of the normal day-to-day operations things that we've had to do. We just had one Suburban not make it home last week. Um but we did have parts order for that which should arrive tomorrow and then we'll get that back up in the fleet. So other than that, it's been pretty pretty calm this month. Okay, counseling report. >> So on April the 1st, I had eight 11th graders and two 12th graders
take the ACT test here with me. Miss Anderson gave all of the juniors the math TSI test um a couple weeks ago. Um and we had some that did really well and some that were really close. So we're we're excited about that. um wrapped up the reading star. Every 3rd through 10th grader has they're done with the reading. We had an Air Force recruiter come during the uh secondary lunch on April 13th and just kind of when I walked through there were kids up and visiting with him. So they was pretty interactive. Um, we gave the social studies a eighth grade social studies star on April 14th. And then the US history, biology, and fifth and eth science on April 16th. I still have um two US history kiddos that have been out that will
take theirs this week. And then Wednesday's the math for third through 9th graders. The Rotary lunch is April 23rd this month. Um, and Marcus was awarded senior of the month. Miss M will take him. Um, on April 28th, I will have the mandatory freshman orientation meeting for all incoming ninth graders. And then we also have a dual credit meeting um for any parents and students that are interested in taking dual credit. Um, uh, Mr. and Miss HHS forms are have been out for a couple weeks now. They're due April 29th. I've only had one kid return it to me, so she will probably be the miss. And we might not have a mister. I don't know. Um, on April 29th, our seniors will take we'll do their CPR training. We've had three already take it.
Was that right? Three already take it with football, so they won't have to take it again. Um, but the a lady from the service center will come and give the remaining students their CPR training and then I will give or I will do the law enforcement training with the seniors. It's a state thing that I have to teach them how to interact with police officer if they get pulled over. So the state says to graduate they have to have CPR and law enforcement training. So that would be the 29th. All right, a report. >> Um, finally wrapping up CDE contests. We've been traveling everywhere in April, trying to get to all the invitationals to get them into some practices. So, we had our area contest this past Friday. We had a livestock team, an entomology
team, and then our milk quality and products team. Um, they all did great, gave it all that they could. Um, and then our milk quality and products team did qualify for the state contest. So, on Wednesday, we will leave Wednesday, go to Hamilton for one last practice contest, and then Thursday, we'll compete at the state contest at Charlton. Um, so that's pretty exciting to have with the state qualifying team. I'm really proud of them. They worked really hard to qualify and make it that far. Um, wrapping up a, we've got banquetss coming up. We've got, I think, district banquet on the 30th and chapter banquet on May 7th and then our area 2 convention that next week. So, winding down but still busy. Okay, everybody's had a chance to look take a look at the
uh board minutes from March 23rd under our action items. Consider and take possible action on the approval of the board minutes. >> Change that bottom. I didn't >> I'm sorry. It says that I abain from you. >> I voted yes. >> Okay. >> So, that last part >> I asked you. >> I had it down. I did not see her vote. So, >> I may not I don't think I put my hand up, but I said yes. >> Okay. So, that'd be a 6 there. I'll make a motion approve as amended. I'll second it. >> That was you, Casey. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Have a motion in a second to approve minutes as amended. Is there any further discussion? All in favor? Any opposed? You're going to stay. Okay. Next is consider and take
possible actions on the approval of payment of bills and investment report. Make a motion to approve. >> I'll second. >> We have a motion and second to approve the payment of bills and investment report. Is there any further discussion? All in favor? 70. Next is to consider and take possible action to temporarily modify provisions of board policy DC local related to superintendent summer hiring authority. Uh so basically this would give myself approval to make hires for certified personnel. Um following this meeting through through typically um the August meeting um really just to be able to capitalize on hiring um efficiently um when we get when we get good candidates to be able to do that quickly. Um it's typically something that's done this time of the year through the summer months. Um should the board
consider um continuing that. I'll make a motion to approve it. >> I'll second it. I have a motion and second to approve the uh action to temporarily modify provisions of the board policy for the superintendent summer hiring authority. Is there any further discussion? All in favor? 70. Next is consider and take possible action on employment of social studies teacher/coach. >> Um you'll see Jackson has a paint resume this picture itself. He's done a lot of good things. His high aspirations, very educated, he's experienced he is he is younger. Um I know Mr. Marman and Coach Winters did a lot of the interviewing of him. He came up here, met his family. Um, and if you have any questions specifically, they could they could probably answer. We good? No, good. >> Real good. Um, we talked
to Coach Hodnet. I knew him when I was at Stanford. He was a high school. He's the AD at Sweetwater. He said if Jackson came back or wanted to come back, I'd hire him here. I'd hire him somewhere else. So he'd hire him again for it, which is the when you're hiring people, that's the highest level of, you know, reference. Um, and his aunt actually worked for me at Snider when I was there. Real good real good teacher, good family. >> He's originally from Hamlin. No small schools, good family. So >> is that where you graduated? >> Yes, sir. >> He's got two young daughters. I don't know what the youngest one >> the youngest one's about five weeks old baby >> when he came to interview he said yep just turned 3 weeks old
so >> most question I just did on that I know we got email about it they >> when Thompson left >> is that still the new rules set in that he has that he had to be certified >> yes um >> I know he's taking it in July secondary will have to be fully certified. Not next year, but the next year 2028. >> So, we'll have we'll do an addendum on his contract until he gets that. >> Okay. I didn't know how. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> I knew it was something new. >> 2028. >> I'll make a motion. We have a motion and a second to uh approve the hiring of the social studies teacher/coach being Jackson Sepa. Is there any further discussion? All in favor? 70. Next up is to consider and take possible
action to appoint persons to the education foundation board for two member seats. So when this was reddone um the positions were staggered. The three community members got two-year terms um and the the first two board members got one-year terms. So that those Blaine and uh Joe's seats were um they finished their one-year terms. Um so now those would become two-year terms. So these two foundation seats by the board members are actually two years now. So every every year on out the members are getting renewed from um so next year will be the three community seats and then the following year will be the two board seats. Um so it's up to you guys who who you want and or if you want >> I'll do it again. I'll >> any volunteers. Well, it looks like
that takes care of our two positions right there. Um, so we got Blaine and John Pence. >> Yes. Are two volunteers. >> You could you could vote. I mean, you still can vote. You don't have to. >> Made a motion. >> Motion. John second. So we have a motion and a second for Blaine and John uh to be voluntto the uh education foundation board. Is there any further discussion? All in favor? 70. All right. Next is to consider and take possible action to prove the text certification for the 2627 school year. >> Uh this is another annual survey we have to do. Um we have to go through this form and list our um the curriculum that we have for every grade and subject level. Um so it's just it it's for English, reading, science,
social studies. Um every grade and subject are represented. Um, we just have to go in and site where our curriculum comes from. Um, whether it's Longman or McGraw Hill or um, Glen Co., we've got a lot of different curriculums for different subject areas. Um, so I mean we're we're compliant with with um curriculum and this this just has to be reported, voted on um and sent back to the state. >> I noticed that the question in the survey that was recurring was one of are we using blue bonnet? >> Yes. >> Is that the state sponsored? >> It is. >> So that's the one that the state's pushing. Um, we've looked at it and I've talked to other teachers. I used it in Snider. Some like it, some don't. From what I've gathered, I don't
think it fits us and fits our teachers. Um, but I'll every time somebody sends me something on curriculum, I look at it, talk to teachers. So, I'm not afraid to use it, but also they push it so much cuz it's somebody's getting some money back somewhere from that. if that makes sense. And they're pushing it and my nephew in Houston uses it and they're like what he's learning there is not what they should be learning in third grade. >> And we we've gotten some blue bonnet resources that Mr. Marman shared with some teachers to >> other stuff I think in there really good, but it's stuff that's not they didn't create it from scratch. It's stuff that's already been done. Well, it was just interesting that uh the question is repeatedly asked throughout the survey
as to whether or not we're using Blue Bonnet and when we read through the what's in there, we're not. >> No. >> So, I figured that was kind of a situation. >> Any further questions on the curriculum on the motion? I'll >> second it. Have a motion and a second to approve the tech certification for the 2627 school year. Is there any further discussion? All in favor? 70. All right. So we do have a executive session here on our agenda for tonight for personnel matters. Um and that that was included for if any discussion needed to be about new hiring but it's I have no personel to discuss. >> Okay. >> Yeah. I don't know. >> Okay. It says superintendent of annual evaluation, but we just completed that. >> Do another one >> three months
ago. >> I forgot to change that. >> Okay, no problem. >> It was good. Members of the board, is there any other reason for personnel matters for us to go into executive session? Either a yes or a no. >> No. >> Okay. With that with the motion. >> I'll second it. We have a motion in the second to adjourn the meeting. All in favor? 70.
