It is now 7 o'clock and we do have a forum present. So we'll call this meeting of the Hermly Independent School District Board >> together. If you would remove your covering and we'll open with a prayer. Father in heaven, we thank you for today and the things that you originally blessed us with. We thank you for opportunity to serve people of this community and students of this school. Father God, we pray that you uh that you help us to keep that at the forefront of our minds as we go through this meeting tonight to keep kids first and that we put aside all of our our own personal issues that we have. Father God, we pray that you uh keep our kids safe in all that they do. God, we uh pray that you forgive
us where we fall short of your glory with our sins. In Christ's name we pray. >> Amen. We did not have anyone sign up for the public forum. So, we'll move on to the cardinal spotlight. Uh cardinal spotlight. Um you've seen these guys in the on Facebook a lot doing a lot this month from donating golf bags and hosting a dance and um the half court shot that Kobe just missed. Um but the we want to recognize the currently athletic booster club. It's a newly formed booster club and uh Britney is here to speak on behalf. If you want to speak, you don't have to. >> Sure. >> So, uh we are the newly formed Herally Athletic Booster Club. We actually started in March of last year. Um we started first by hosting the sports
banquet, which I thought went wild. We do that, you know, every year. Um come fall, we did beat the Cardinals, where we paired up every varsity, uh and JB football player, cheerleader, and a manager and trainer with a child from the elementary ages of kind of pre preK through fifth grade. Um, they just kind of exchange gifts when they wanted to. Really, the main thing was to exchange something at homecoming just so that the littles can get to know the bigs and the bigs get to know the littles. It went really well. We had a ice cream social so that they can get to know each other a little bit more. They spent time um coloring a couple of harmony graphics together. We enjoyed ice cream together. It was a good time. Um, we have
been approached to help out with some golf bags, which we donated 10 golf bags um a week ago. Uh, we are also in the works of uh buying new tracking forms. Um, so we're doing that. Um, we have have run concession stands during football to help raise funds. We have um done basketball shirts. We have done shirts and and baseball shirts last year. And everything that every proceed we get goes back to the kids, whether it's through um sports banquet, through uniforms, through golf bags, um anything on that nature, we have a bunch of businesses that have graciously donated to us. Um whether it's through membership or getting signage out on the Baseball and softball fields, which we're working on right now. Um, our hopes are for Sports Biquid is that we're hoping to have
it in a bigger spot so people can come and sell tickets. Um, we're hoping to have it catered, make it a little bit more formal than it usually is. And we're hoping to have a golf tournament sometime this summer as well. Um, planning for that as well. And then start of school year, we kick off and make meet the Cardinals again and do it all over again. So, I have a really great group that's behind me that um kids all the way from littles to bakes. So, um we're very fortunate to have the people that we have that want to help around here and want want what's good for these kids. And you know, regardless of whether they're athlete or not, each one of us have the priority and the focus on the kids. So,
we're very happy to be here and we're we're all very happy to help. >> Thank you. Thank you. >> Superintendence report attendance. We we did we did struggle with attendance mainly mainly because of bad weather um over those several days and trying to have a half day and early release and things like that. Um so attendance was a little down still pretty happy with it over over the year. There will be a bad weather waiver in the action items to exclude one of the days for our minutes. All attendance is still hanging strong. Um you'll see you'll see the budget report next. We're comparable this time comparable to last year. Um we we are at 52% of our budget. last year 63% at this time. So just trying to trying to be conservative in every
way that we can. Uh next board meeting I think there was a little discussion earlier but uh March 16th is the third Monday which falls on that Monday of spring break which I know several is going to struggle being here. So the 23rd would be You good? >> Okay. 23rd report. >> All right, principal report. >> Not a whole lot. Just cruising along. We've started our countdown for star. Teachers always kind of nervous about when I said in that countdown, but we're kind of under the 30-day mark. We've kind of talked with Miss Schaefer and talked with teachers and talked with coach Gibson about combining our STAR instead of testing for like three different days in a week like Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. We're going to test one day. Um so El will be April 7th.
We'll test third grade through English two. Um just so we can get it all done. We can make as many small groups as we need to individual test. Um, eighth grade social studies will be on the April 14th. Since eighth grade does take four, we just did verify themselves. Fifth and eighth grade science, biology, US history will be April 16th and then math will be April 22nd. So teachers are pushing and we've been talking about data. So I think it's looking good. Um, so just cruise along with that. Um, today started the fifth six weeks. Then teacher incentive aotment. I had a Zoom with him today filling out our report or plan to apply for teacher incentive. Um we're kind of ahead where we need to be, but that'll be due like April 15th. So
I'm working with region 14 on getting all that filled out so we can hopefully get our teachers more money. So trying to make it as easy as transition as we can to be able to get them more money. That's all for the principles report on science history start >> science. Uh so science and US history is April 16th. >> Thank you. Um athletic report. >> Uh he's out there coaching basketball right now. But >> let me go stop him and have him come. >> Heard about it. District champions about district champions. They play Friday night at 7 in the coliseum. is the winner between Monday and Rotan. Boys are fourth in district. Softball has their first scrimmage on Friday. Powerlifting is the last regular meet on Saturday and then it's just going to get really
busy with all the spring activity. with track and baseball and golf and trying to trying to keep up. >> All right, operations report. Um, I have Aspen Electric coming on Thursday to help us get the outside lighting um, timing and motion stuff figured out. Um, we did figure out that there is a dust toadon uh photo cell on it, but it's also tied to a timer. And so they're kind of working against each other. So our plan is to completely get rid of um the photo cell and it'll just be on a timer to where they come on a certain time, they go off at a certain time, whether it's dark outside, light outside, whatever, they're going to be set at a certain time. >> Wasn't the timer hidden? >> Yeah. >> And so the
Yeah. So found two timers hidden up in the ceiling. Actually, one's right above Marcy's head. Why is it up there? You're never going to find it. So, we're gonna get all that stuff kind of under control. Um, been working on water heater at Gibson's house. Um, which crazy part is the water heater was 1986 model. So, >> um, on two, both of them were in the 80s when they they replaced one last year, I think, >> two years ago. >> And this one is 40 years old. So, and then they got sewer system done at Gibson's. Um, working on a water leak as well that feeds the athletic facilities. Um, we had a pressure coupling come apart. Um, I'm sure with the new well, it's probably the pressure kind of got up from all the
years. Working on a kind of a list of as far as like summer projects. Um, don't want to get too advanced. kind of just get some things together um for um if the bond was to pass, bond wasn't to pass, kind of trying to get some of that stuff together. Um so we kind of have a game plan for that because I hate to just, you know, expect everything to happen and then we don't really have anywhere to go with that. Um repaired the AC on bus one. Um and then we had a few we had four heaters actually go down a couple weeks ago, so we just got all those back up. Then other than that, just kind of >> Thank you, sir. Counseling report. >> So on January 22nd, Braden Lynch was recognized
as the senior of the month and had lunch at the Rotary Club and Miss N joined him for that. We had that same day, the Air Force recruiter came out and visited with our juniors and seniors. um and they were actually very engaged in that. It was an interesting presentation. I've completed all the GT testing. I tested seven students. The our the committee GT committee is going to meet on Friday to determine um which students will qualify. On February the 3rd, we had a field test for third and fifth grade reading reading language arts and across the state. It logged everybody out in the middle of the But we finished them up that afternoon and got that done. And the real essentials class is still going. We have three more Mondays of that for the
students. It's 6th through 9th grade that are doing that. And then coming up, our senior for of the month for February is Cameron Grimes. Um, and she will have lunch at the Rotary Club on February 26th. And Miss Smith, Art, Miss Smith, and Miss Gibson are going to T pass testing will be March the 3rd and 4th for listening and speaking and then March 10th and 11th for reading and writing. Um I'll have five students, two elementary and three secondary students that I'll be testing there. Uh we're going to have a 911 presentation come out. Um a lady contacted me. It's for first and um second grades and so she'll be coming out. It's the cell phone sally kind of presentation. Um, excuse me. On March 4th, as Mr. Marman mentioned, STAR testing is in
April. We're going to do the culture training on March the 23rd. And then we're gearing up for our high school UIL that will be held in IRA on March the 25th. report. >> So, Miss Hal is at San Angelo Stock Show. She sent the report to me. So, at Fort Worth, we had um group there with Steers and then um uh Tatum Beck, she doesn't show under FFA, but she goes to school here and she had reserve champion cross there. Um Harper Beard had class winner. Lily was ninth >> 10th. So little sister got the better pick. Um Brennan McCarter, Parker Wallace, uh Peyton and Satie Northcut, they all showed at Fort Worth. Didn't get a ribbon, but where represented us very well. And then Case Digby, he got a fifth place at Fort Worth
steer. So I believe so definitely the toughest steer show there is. So we got along very well. Um San Angelo, Pton, and Satie both showed their steers there. Um, Harley, Ryder, and Keegan showed at the guilt show this last weekend. Ryder had a seventh place land race. Harley had a fifth place York and a eighth place Poland. They are showing Keegan Cash, Harley, and Tatum Beck are all showing at Angelo today and tomorrow. And San Angelo R show is Friday. So, a lot of miles being put down and going shows. All right. Next up is discussion item for board input for the 2627 school calendar. >> Um, yeah, we're getting ready to start on that. This was this year's The only major thing right now that we perceive changing is the spring break. WTC spring
break's moving back will be next year. Um, but if y'all have any, you have any suggestions. calendar's going pretty well. We have enough days built in um to cover bad weather days so far. Everybody seems to be pretty happy with with the way it is. We'll still take it to committee for approval. Um, but if y'all just want one submitted or two or five, um, just let me know and we'll get you we'll get you what you want as far as the calendar for next year. Or if you have any suggestions for anything to add, take away or change, >> anything from the staff? >> They've liked it. I think >> keep it. Has there been any days that we want to switch or change? >> It's the best I've ever had. >> Yeah. I
love like the six weeks like be out that Friday and that Monday. I'm like, "Yes, >> I wish spring break wasn't with all the other spring breaks though >> because everything's so expensive that week." We get cheaper. It's nice to go with WTC though students >> because there's one year we didn't and it was kind of a mess. >> We got through it but >> our students don't want to do college. >> So we'll have that we'll have that for you for approval next week. >> So that be like the 9th through 13th. >> All right. Moving along to our action items. First up is to consider and take possible action on the approval of four minutes. >> I'll make it. Oh, did you? >> So, we have a motion and a second to approve
both sets of board minutes. Is there any further discussion? All in favor? 70. Next is consider and take possible action on the approval of payment of bills and investment report. Make motion. >> I'll second. Have a motion and a second to approve the statement of bills and investment report. Any further discussion. All those in favor? Next is consider and take possible action on bad weather waiver. >> Okay, this is this bad weather waiver actually only covers the third day we were out. um you don't qualify for a waiver unless you use your two days or your days already built in. Um so we missed two whole days and two half days which our minutes cover. So this this waiver covers the final full day that we were out this has to be board approved and
then we don't get counted against for those minutes. Um and short of having any other big event weather spelled then we won't have to make up any more time motion. Motion has been made and seconded to adopt the bad weather waiver. Is any further discussion? All those in favor zero. We're going to skip item D and come back to it and move along to item E which is consider and take action to uh adopt an order authorizing the defeasance and redemption of the outstanding obligations of the district. >> Um this is the paperwork to pay off the last bond early. Um David Fus was getting it ready for us but then he switched jobs and now Jake Lawrence from government capital has put all this together for us so that we can begin the steps
of paying it getting money back. Pay off. >> Um That was why we had a zero because we should be paying on it this year and next year. Um the because we you can't overolct with that zero bond rate for this year because we already have enough and and there there's probably a situation where there's going to be a little bit more money left in it >> because it saves you interest on those final years. >> So we could make a little bit make So we have a motion in a second to adopt the order authorizing the defeasence and redemption of the outstanding obligations of the district as presented. Is there any further discussion? >> John Bla made a second. All in favor zero. All right. Next, according to uh Texas Government Code 551.074, the
board will go into executive session to discuss personnel matters, more specifically the principal's common. It is 7 p.m. We Transiting out of close session at 8:25 from Texas Government Code 551.074 discussing personnel matters specifically with the contract. So at 8:26 p.m. we will be back into open session if numbers would change on the clock. Okay. And we go back to item number 5D, which is consider and take possible action on the principal contract. We hear any motions or seconds on the floor. Motion to ask So, we have a motion and a second for no action. All in favor? 61. >> All right. I'll make motion. I'll second that >> motion's been made and seconded to adjourn the meeting. All in favor it >> 61. He he abstained. He did not abain.
