001I will call to order our public or our our regular meeting at 6:21. Uh we've already done our invocation. Uh is there anybody that that signed in? >> Yes. >> All right. Okay. Let me pull everything up. we will uh move into our public forum. Uh I just want to remind you that uh um you're limited to five minutes. I also want to let everybody knows know that's going to uh talk uh that as a school board we will will listen and hear but we cannot uh uh have a discussion with you. Uh so uh if you ask questions uh if it's a matter of fact or policy I can I can respond to that or instruct Mr. Dyer to to talk with you at a later date. But please don't think that we're trying

002to ignore you or anything else. The law says that we can't respond. So we will go ahead and move forward and because we have 1 2 3 4 5 6 seven that would like to talk. Uh so uh I will just go down the list here on uh the folks that that signed in as you signed in. So Veronica Weatherington uh you would be first if you could please come to the podium. And I I'm going to find >> There's no doubt that there's no doubt the air conditioner is working. >> You can hand me this place right now. >> The last two videos like that. >> All right. Whenever you're ready. >> Okay. Um first of all, seat belts are extremely important. So I'm glad you guys are working on this and I'm grateful

003for the opportunity to speak. But my concern is as a lot of parents uh is the changing of the Christmas program for the elementary school. And it was it's been pretty short. I feel like I don't even know what all parents know about it at this point. And I don't have any children in this school now, but I do have a grandchild and I'm a working grandparent. And I thought, when I was at the playoff game on Saturday, I looked um and if you look at the pictures of the girls behind those girls, those stands were full of community involvement, community support. I was there, but you so um and I think to not consider the whole community when it comes to something like this is a little inconsiderate to be honest. Um and the

004parents and the the working grandparents, aunts, uncles, the extended family of the kids. There's not a lot of things that the elementary school gets to do to kind of showcase them and [clears throat] them to their family. And I think um changing it to the morning. I really think that the majority of the people that are going to be here to see that is going to be the staff and kids and I think that it's going to eliminate the possibility of a lot of parents and extended family being able to take part in this event. I've been doing I mean I've been supporting this like almost everybody here has for a long long time and um I just would like for some serious consideration being taken and I I have empathy for staff at the

005school uh my oldest daughters in this business for over 10 years. I have a lot of empathy and understanding and I know that a lot of time goes into it from their standpoint but you know it kind of comes with territory to be honest um as with a lot of professions my professional work I you know I work call and I stay late a lot of times when I'm maybe not referred to but that's part of my job and um I guess that's a bit just that I really wish that it would be reconsidered um to benefit the kids and the the parents and we do want to have a good relationship between all of these entities the parents the community and the school I mean I think that's a very important thing and [clears

006throat] I think we have to come work together to get This is it. Thank you. >> Thank you very much. We appreciate you coming. All right. Number two will be Roy Castillo. [clears throat] >> Hey everyone. Uh my name is Roy Mio for you. For you who don't know me, uh my child is a first grader here and I am also speaking on the same subject of the Christmas program. Uh I do understand that sometime change is necessary, sometime change is good, sometimes change is also not so good. Um I think the community needs to be heard. I think teachers need to be heard. I think from a viewpoint, we really need to look at all viewpoints from this situation and see what's going to be best. Like Miss Veronica said, you know, some of

007that just comes with territory. You know, a lot of us parents work. Uh I wish I had the luxury of being a stay home. I really do. Uh but unfortunately, that's not the situation. um you know in the background in the morning I won't have that luxury of seeing my son being able to do that program and you know and seeing the joy that he gets and he don't understand seeing you know he's just going to see that I'm not there not realizing well daddy's at work you know cuz he does see that I try my best to get off whatever he has all these events but a lot of the time most of those events happen after school on weekends it's a lot easier compared 9:00 or set time in the morning. Uh during

008a weekday, that's a that's tough. Um so I just pray that y'all put that in consideration. Um and you know, if we need to have a meeting outside of this amongst other group of people, hey, I would probably love to. Um and also I just feel like certain groups of people are kind of that are kind of middle people are kind of getting the flack of what's going on in between I guess parents and teachers and they really shouldn't be getting that. So, I think to avoid that, there needs to be something done in that situation to where either just something needs to be done because there's people that's trying to help the situation, but yet they're getting more heat from the situation than what they should be. And I think we need to speak.

009That's all I have to say. >> Thank you very much. Okay. Help me with this name. What's it say? >> Third one. Yeah, Cody Coker. >> Okay, sorry about that. [clears throat] Cody Coker. Sorry, your handwriting looks like mine and I can't read my own. So, [clears throat and snorts] so I'm also here to speak about the Christmas concert. I don't understand the reason why it had to be changed to the morning time. that in the statement that was released, it says that it better helps families that can't make it in the afternoon, which that doesn't make any sense because if you can't make it in the afternoon, how can you make the morning hot when everything's at work? So, I mean, pretty much everything I was going to talk about, everybody's already talked about.

010Second thing was school getting let out for playoffs and state championships. Uh, I came from a school district that went state championships every year. We was never let out for it. It hurts the family that has to take off like say this week coming up Thursday early release day parents got to take off for that day to get the kids Friday they have to take off to keep the kids at home but there's just nowhere else in the town to keep the kids and then you got a whole another week of Thanksgiving that parents have to work they don't get off for a whole week of Thanksgiving like teachers do [cough] [clears throat] to me the whole situation that there's no consideration for the families that's have to work how they're supposed to tend how

011they supposed to pay. We're trying to pass a bond right now and they have to miss work which everybody knows the bond getting passed. It's going to raise taxes up. So if you're this will work and your taxes are getting raised. How's that supposed to work? That's just doesn't make sense to me. That's all I have to say. >> Thank you, sir. Appreciate your time. All right, Mr. Simon. So for those who don't know me, my name is Trey Stein. I'm the husband and husband of an educator here at the school. I feel it as a privilege to be her husband. St. Paul wrote in Ephesians 2:es 8 and 9 that grace is a gift from God. This imunity has a problem of grace. This past week it was already been talked about the Christmas

012concert was changed. I think part of that was because there was a teacher that is no longer here at this district that had a ban. He had it all scheduled out for the evening time because it was his church band. He's no longer here. Probably not going to get in that band. Okay. Secondly, to be in a leadership role, in a management role. I don't know how many people have been in that role. I have. Making decisions that are able to be okayed by everybody is hard. All I'm asking is we need to give this administration and these teachers a little bit of grace. Yes, I understand. I have empathy for those who can't get off to go to the concert. I were too, more than likely I might not be able to get off.

013Okay. But reading between the lines of the statement, there was also complaints that the concert was too late for parents and too late for children. I mean, I read the same statement y'all did. So, trying to make everybody hell happy here is it's very hard. grace. The undeserved gift of grace. Jesus died upon the cross to give us that undeserved gift of grace. Let's please give these teachers and these administration a gift of grace. The other thing I'm going to ask of the school board guys, when you see something like that going on online and you see administration and teachers being bashed online, I'm going to ask y'all to step in. You are governing board of this school district. Okay? Needs to happen. These teachers and these administrators, they work day in and day out

014to love on our children. and to make this school district what it is. Everybody moves to Iowa because everyone hears Iowa is great. It is. [clears throat] Someone mentioned we're about to pass the bond. Yes, we're working very hard to pass that bond. But if we have the vision inside for our community, the bond will not pass. [snorts] Let's come together. Let's show each other grace. show each other God's love and fear in our Amen. >> Thank you. >> All right. Uh next is Alex Ordanis. >> Hello. Good evening. Uh my name is Alex Fonius. I'm with uh I got two children in elementary. I'm also with the other volunteer fire department. Um he talked about grace, right? You know, I'm a Christian man myself. We love our teachers. No one ever wanted to show

015grace to nobody. But we cannot take away the fifth amendment right to anybody in our community. Right? I seen the comments. Everybody seen the comments. I didn't see nothing being being passed Facebook rules and regulations were they mean yes but we get comments like that in our page all the time that is our as leaders in this community or as support for this community we have to learn how to maneuver through the right when the decision was made that I don't think was was kind of consented to the community that being this close to community especially something that's very important to the community. I think it was a bigger issue than people thought it was going to be. I we moved in here about 3 years ago. My biggest thing is I came from the

016city. In the city, you did not see Christmas concerts like this, praising Jesus, praising God, giving grace, none of that. So, when the community sees something changing, especially do with with their children praising God, they're going to react the way they're going to react because it it really affects in some type of way. So when we have grace, we got to have grace for everybody, not just one direction. Because these parents felt hurt, these parents felt kind of like something was being taken away from them. So we have to listen to both sides, not just one side. And as as a community, we have to listen to to both decisions we made. Was it a tough decision? It might have been. Could have been another way to come come to it, come about it. It

017could have been different. They could have um Mr. died when he I remember he put up a vote of changing changing the school days. I think that was Monday to Thursday or Monday to Friday. Am I correct? And he put up put it up to vote and the parents spoke. Everybody spoke and my biggest concern cuz even I emailed Mr. Bosik about it is we're about to pass the school board meeting and when I have parents calling me, what are y'all doing? What are y'all talking about? Why is Iola changing? I'm like oh I's not changing. They're like, "Whoa, this full on and y'all trying it." I get very negative reviews. That's why I felt I mean, and I look past the Christmas concert. I think we can get past the Christmas concert if it

018was direct to the parents a little bit more clearly why the decision was being made. Why are we making these changes? Right? I look at past the bigger picture, the mom. We're trying to go door to door, talk to these parents, get the decision to vote yes. And a lot of them if especially on social media if we eliminate their ability to speak because not a lot of them are going to come up here and make a big scene. If we take away the ability to speak and to express their opinion then we like why don't we vote yes for that's all I got to say. >> Thank you very much. >> All right Dr. Foster [clears throat] um for opportunity in front of you again. Uh I'm probably going to be flying off the

019cuff here not having this written down. Uh I usually try to have some notes written down, but I I really didn't know exactly how what I wanted to say tonight or how I wanted to approach things. And um I think for me, we've been here over a decade now, which is hard to believe. Um I feel like we're actually maybe part of the community at this point. years and I think I can make the statement now that the hardest job in this district I think is being an elementary school principal at this school. Um I we eat our own. I watched it happen to Juicy. I watched it happen to Luna and I you know, I see it happening here and I think that's why I was sensitive to it. Um, I I I did

020get the email and and I I read the email and I took the email to mean that because I've been asked to be the chairman of of a a committee that I have to keep my mouth shut and that I don't have. And I don't think that's fair either. uh because I care a lot about this community. I care a lot about this school. My wife cares a lot about this school. We care a lot about the kids. My wife cares a lot about the kids. And what I can tell you is that the man sitting in the middle of the table right here, these three ladies sitting right here, this teacher sitting right here, that teacher sitting right there, this gentleman right here, this gentleman right here. Um go Ali, I love them. And

021I they care so much about our kids. We are so fortunate to have the administration that we have. We are so fortunate to have the teachers that we have at this school. We all have the right to give and voice our opinion. I agree. That's why this is nice tonight. If y'all can come and we can talk about why we might be upset about [clears throat] the Christmas concert being changed. I get it. I am very sensitive about online attacks. I'm a veterinarian. We have the highest suicide rate of any profession and most of those suicides end up coming about because of online attacks. When you attack an individual online and they do not have the ability to respond, you are playing with fire. You're playing with fire. And I'm not saying that's what's going

022to come out of this, but it hit me the wrong way. We do need to be together as a community. Okay? I don't see how it's helpful to attack to have an organization that's partnered with our school attack the administration online personally. I have no problem with any of the comments about it being changed. I had absolutely no problem with it. It's a personal attack. It's not helpful. It's just not helpful. And Trying to make an assumption that anybody that's an administration of this school doesn't care about our kids is just flat wall. It's just flat wall. I can say this because me and father are doing along really good. I come to these meetings every elementary school princip we have ever had guests thrilled standing up here as long as power lets them know

023the volleyball team's wedding and all that you get to sit down. Okay, the elementary school principles get grilled grilled up here. It is a hard spot to be in and they do have to make tough decisions. They have to. And not every decision is going to be like I've owned a business. I've been the chief of the staff at a corporate practice and I've got a new business now. I've been competitive deacon the deacon body. I've been uh Texas board of uh or Texas maybe medical association. When you're at the top, every decision you make is bad. Everybody has a better idea. Everybody could have done it better. It's a hard spot to be in. So, let's just try to keep our conversations to these kind of settings or one-on-one and let's stop the online

024stuff. It's I it just I I I just want y'all to know that everybody in here uh that is rel, you know, that's the tide of this this school district, they love our kids and they didn't do anything to try to hurt our kids. We've had nothing to do with that. Thank you. >> Thank you. You have an internal clock because that was exactly five minutes. >> All right. And let's see. Our final one is Jason Gilman. I guess y'all don't know me. My name is Jason Gila. I'm principal Yila's wife and you two gentlemen have talked down to what I wanted to say and I'm going to give them the raise and that's all. >> Thank you. >> All right. >> Change our mind and put no and then >> uh it is Yeah,

025sure. Come on. Uh, we do need you to cut by and >> can I come back up? >> We need you to change your >> speak. I don't know if he's allowed to speak. >> Say it again. I can't even speak. >> I don't think so either. I think you only get one shot in it, sir. >> All right. Thank you. Um, I really didn't intend to speak at this. Um, I've been a part of the I community all 31 years of my life. All four of my older siblings have been a part of this community. My mother went to school here. We have been in this community for a very long time. I am not a big public speaker. This was not intended. However, I do feel like there are some more things that

026need to be said. Um, I would first like to address the fact that all of the conversation has been happening on social media. While I do agree that no one should be bashing, no one should be name calling, no one should be personally attacking, from what I can see, unless comments have been deleted, that's not what's been happening. And the other reason that the conversation has had to happen on social media, the school has yet to this moment right now put out a statement about the Christmas concert. The only reason parents are aware of it is because the PTO page decided to post it, not the school page, an email has not been sent out. The PTO page, an unofficial parentrun organization, is the only reason that parents are aware. And if we have parents

027that are not on social media, they still don't know that this is happening. At the end of the day, that is just not acceptable. Whether the concert ends up being changed or not, which I don't think that it should, as a single parent in this community, there are I count on one hand the number of events that I'm able to attend for my child. The Christmas concert is the largest event for our children. We don't pay for it. There's no money brought in. It is at the end of the day for the kids. Every year when we come into that gym before the concert can start, we're having to go get more chairs because we have so many people that we need more seating, which is an amazing problem to have. Moving the concert to

0288:00 a.m. alienates 90% of that audience. It is one of the only opportunities that I have to see my son do something that he's proud of. When I let him know that, hey, this is changing. There's a good chance that I'm not going to be be there. My nine-year-old is heartbroken. He's asking, "Why does it have to be this way? What can I do to change it? Can I start a petition?" He cares that much because it matters to our children whether or not we show up. Every single one of those kids when they walk through that door, their eyes are scanning the crowd. They are looking for their person. And you can see their faces physically light up as soon as they find them in that crowd because it means something to our kids

029that we are able to show up. If it has to be changed, I understand that there's going to be people that are upset with no matter what the choice was. But this was a drastic decision. It was a decision that was not run by those of us who are being affected by it. And it's a decision that still has yet to be announced to all of the families that are affected by it. If you don't have Facebook, you have no idea this change is going on. That's really all I have to say. >> Thank you very much. >> There's There's no We're not We can't do that. There's no responses. I'm sorry. >> Rhonda, did you want to >> No, [laughter] all right. Anybody else? Last call. All right. >> Okay. [clears throat] You you

030need to come and update this first. >> Oh, sorry. I didn't click. >> No, you're good. If you'll cross out the note for me initial. >> Okay. Um, so with uh background in counseling, I've done a lot of mediation as a marriage and family therapist before becoming a school counselor. So I find it at least for me it's relatively easy to be empathetic and see both sides and also as a mother to a husband who's in the oil field um who has missed several of our older kids' activities unfortunately um I I can relate uh to both sides. Um I really appreciate what you guys said about Grace. Big fan big steth grace. Um, but I think I think the problem for me and I would encourage people who don't think that there were personal

031attacks to go back and read suggesting that Miss Gilbo quit because she doesn't want to work late hours. Um, calling out the administration. Um, there were actually several personal attacks on there and I'm sorry if you weren't able to see this. I'm not sorry. you shouldn't have been able to see those. Technically, nobody should have been able to see those. And technically, that post shouldn't have even been made because it was made without Principal Gildo's permission. She had planned on releasing it in a different way. And actually, it's also been on the school website for the academic calendar for a while now, like multiple months. So, it wasn't just brand new news, but it wasn't supposed to come out the way that it did. Um, sorry, I'm nervous. I don't really like speaking in public.

032Um, but I would also encourage PTO why yes, freedom of speech is imperative, but it's also not the fifth amendment. Um but we have to find a way to navigate it so that it is limited to the concerns and not allowing for the other things that were said. Um, it was encouraged to email Principal Gilbo. And when my husband said that, at the time that he posted that, Principal Gilbo had not received not one, not a single email. And a lot of things that happened on that thread could have been prevented if she had received an email and then had the ability to respond. Um, but I would like everyone to again, Grace, big fan. I'm empathizing with both parties. I understand everyone's concerns and I will do whatever I can to help from a

033counseling capacity. Um, but we we have to we have to be more mindful of how our words can affect people. >> All right. We're going to move on now to the consent agenda. Mr. Dyer, did anybody uh contact you about the consent agenda or questions about? >> Uh, no sir, but I want to pull your attention to one statement and I think our people referred to this earlier. Uh we are at an all-time high at 663. When I printed this, we received two new students this morning. So we are now at 665. And I do want to point out that's from up from 646 at the beginning of the year. >> Yes. So that's pretty large increase. >> Yeah. >> Yes. >> Yeah. 314 at the elementary, 349 at the high school. >> Well, at

034the secondary was 316 at the elementary. So, we had two check in today. >> Yep. >> so when we refer to these bonds, this is this is why we're referring to a bond. >> A and the secondary is 6 through 12. Uh board members, is there uh anything that anybody wants to pull out to have a discussion about? All right. Is there a motion to accept the uh the consent agenda as as uh presented? >> So move. >> Brian second. >> I'll second it. >> Tammy second. All in favor, please raise your hand. That is five to zero. Uh before we move on, >> did you vote? >> Yeah, he voted. >> Okay. >> Uh before we move on, I I do want to apologize if I sounded stern when I when I stopped you

035from clapping. I apologize for that. [clears throat] Uh all right. So, we're going to move on to uh item number five, which is the campus and admin reports. Mrs. Gilbo, if you'd like to join us first. >> All right, guys. Lots of amazing, wonderful things happening at the elementary school. Um, we had Red Women Week at the end of October that we celebrated. um just making healthy lifestyle choice choices for ourselves. We also had a vocabulary day parade. Um our students were able to choose a vocabulary word, learn about that word, and then display it through a costume. Um they they had a wonderful time doing that. Um students finished up their last um benchmark today, the science benchmark. And so, um, tomorrow actually we're meeting with our our reading teachers and we're looking at

036their extended, um, constructive responses and, um, looking at the data with that. And then after, um, Christmas, I mean, after Thanksgiving, we will, um, dig into the other subjects as well. Looking at the data, see where our gaps are and making a plan for our students. Uh, we also had a wonderful UIL event thanks to Mr. Glass. awards will be given out tomorrow morning during during our huddle and um let's see we had 64 um total students at the elementary place um between first and sixth grade we had 13 students receive a first place medal um 15 students second 15 third 10 fourth um fourth place four fifth place and seven sixth place. So, lots to celebrate with our students just academically as well. Just um thriving here at elementary school. We also um as

037you're on your way out, you will notice our wall of honor. We have lots of veterans that it's an honor to be able to recognize them and just to honor them. And that's something that we will keep up. We're not going to just focus on just Veterans Day, but also looking at as the possibility opportunity for our students to look at it, read at it, read the what's on there. It shares about where the um veterans have served and we're hoping that that will kind of spark some curiosity with some students possibly going and um researching that and maybe joining the military. Very proud of our veterans. And then um our students had a ton of fun last week at the Aggie basketball game. They were dancing and um grouping along. They really enjoyed it.

038And then um we are focusing tomorrow on our thankful lunch. And so we will um we have over 100 people already um signed up to come and eat lunch with our kids. And um you know obviously there's going to be some same day check-ins but um really excited that we already have 100 people for 3 you know 20 students or so. Um over 100 guests are going to be coming here tomorrow. So, um we have some activities where they'll be able to um reflect with whoever comes with them or the teachers will also be able to um sit with their families as well during the thankful lunch. Um lots of fun things to do and also um we have lots of information on the school website. Mr. Glass um coordinates with me and anytime we

039have an event um Mr. also puts that on the school website to um keep up to date too. >> Can I ask you a question about the benchmarks? >> Uh when when will that information be presented to us? Do you know? >> Um possibly at the December meeting, >> you you'll be ready for it. >> Yes, sir. And if you um if you would like to before that as soon as we get all the data, I can send the report to Mr. Dyer. >> That would be great. >> You can send job reports. >> Thank you. >> It appreciate that. >> Awesome. Any other questions for Thank you. >> Well, I'm very upset Dr. Thunder today. Very important news for everybody. The first time that'll be later in my report. Um, well, we're getting a

040lot of wonderful things. um like the elementary they do a lot of wonderful things over there and I'm very proud. Thank you all for all the stuff that you guys have been doing for our kids. My my son was over there. So um right now me and um Dr. um the other wanted to say make sure that we uh we let you guys know that the band has done a fantastic job. Um all the instruments and things that they that they've gotten that that they're very proud of that and they're going to have their winter concert December 18th. Um, I guess it'll be the elementary gym at 6 p.m. and then the B ice Christmas uh parade will be December 20th. Um, so they'll have that if you want to come out to visit that.

041Um, the um the FF contest was Friday, November 14th. We have a lot of success from our students. We had several students that are going to be advancing area um which will be at Brown High School uh Friday uh November 21st. um just so uh be able to look out for that. We got a lot of kids participating in that. Um robotics did a great job. They did their uh competition um was it last weekend or two weeks ago. Um so they actually made it to state. They got first place in all areas um except for the robot which broke in the last in the last round. So they still got fourth place in the actual robot part. Um but they got first overall in that whole satellite competition. So they will go to state.

042They'll be in Dallas December 11th through the 13th. Um football coach want to make sure that I let everybody know that the district um J were the district champs this year. Um they did a fantastic job. It uh we had a lot of great kids coming up and the program is really growing. So I think previously the most kids we had in football was maybe 30ome. Now I believe it's in the 60s [clears throat] something between JV and my school which is this is really the first time I've known since I've been here which is only seven years but that we've had an official JV that played a full schedule and official varsity. So um coach doing some great job there. Uh the junior high they had a great he did a ton I think

043it's seven men but they had a winning season overall. So the junior high is what this year which is really exciting to see. uh varsity, you go to the area playoff game, which would be Friday. Um at Port Laba, uh we're playing uh Lama and that'll be at 700 p.m. Uh we'll be down there. So, we're trying to get some some opportunities for people to ride. We're going to announce that tomorrow we have left with their kids. Um Dr. Boston volleyball has made it to the state championship. Um so, we'll be leaving on Wednesday. The girls go down there. Um, and then we uh the championship game is uh Thursday at 700 p.m. inland. And then we have the century team, I guess, is supposed to be announced for 10 years previous when they win.

044And that'll be >> it's honor team. >> Honor team 5:00 p.m. the honor, I believe. >> Yes, it is. >> And it's in the middle of Leon's game. >> Yeah. Between the second and third game. >> Yeah, >> that sounds okay. >> Yeah. Second, third game on Honor Island. >> We can hope it gets in their head. >> Well, well, we want them to win state, too. >> We want to have the best district in the state. >> Yep. That's what >> um so everybody that state championship um the girls will go down Wednesday and everybody else is going down Thursday. Um after basketball just started up. Um, junior high is coming right now. Um, we have girls over in Mford. Then, uh, high school doesn't start till November 24th. So, by the next week

045sometime they'll start. And then just let you know all the junior high formal dance. Um, that will be kids are already excited for that. My daughter's address um which will be Friday, December 12th um at 6. So, a lot of great things. Oh, and your uh intervention stuff. So, we don't do our benchmarks until after uh in spring, but we have a lot of of our air vision stuff. We've used a lot of different programs um for our aerovision classes, which in the junior high, it kind of es and flows um who needs what, who's increasing, who's decreasing. Um they switch them out, so it's in their eighth grade. Um and they're they're really fluid on who goes where in the reading side and the math side. Um they keep up with with their progress

046learning 3.80 different programs on provide uh but the high school stuff and the teachers keep track of it and we benchmark it in January. >> So you you do your benchmarks in January >> January into January February when we get back have time to review so we have time to figure out who needs what kind of remediation and then we do that whole thing we don't generally do it uh in the fall. >> Okay. Thank you very much. Any questions, board? Okay. Thank you. All right. On my report tonight, uh got a couple things. First off, we'll start out with the old gym. We had sealed bids come in. We actually got two. Uh RNDI submitted a bid. They actually submitted their bid late uh for $326,000 and some change to tear it down. And

047then ABA, which is a brush above out of College Station, Brian, uh, they submitted a bid of 104,000. Now, that is also without any asbestous remediation. So, if there's any asbestous in there, and we've been in touch with one guy and he's bing on us, so we're probably going to have to call TASBY. I was trying to stay away from Tazby because they charge so much. Uh, but we're going to have to probably get them in here to do the the re the call survey. That's best to survey. And that'll tell us how much we have. And I'm thinking if we have any, it's going to be in those backside buildings, those dressing room, old dressing rooms. It's ISS, it's a music room. More than likely, there's more than one set of tiles in those

048rooms. And they probably just tiled over the original ones. That's probably what's going to have the best. And that should be the only part. But the remediation on that is going to take weeks to do cuz I like to flood the building, bring it up, bag it up, and haul it out. So, um, we put the two bids. I sent Mr. last he put them online today uh so everybody will know what the bids were. So the actual was 326730 for RNDI and so that's that's a step on that. When when do we uh when will that be on an agenda for us to approve one or the other whenever we get that soon as we get the asbestous survey back because then we'll have to do both. We'll have to assign an asbestous person

049to do that and then we'll do the award the bid probably the same the next motion because we have to do do them in order. All right. Um so because R&DI sent theirs in late I have to talk to Brandon because if they score them then they get knocked down because they didn't turn it in on time. So that's that's one thing that will be considered when you go to select a company. Um Mr. Pointer did send me some questions about the survey. Do you want to talk about those and I can kind of give you some comments? >> Uh just to kind of explain uh what what this discussion is. Every year uh we we send a survey to our to our staff uh and and those results were were sent back to us.

050I think last year we requested that we do multiple now. One in the beginning of the year, one at the end. Uh so I asked Mr. Dyer to, you know, go over any questions that we had. Um, so I I had just a few a few things uh and uh the the first there there were some comments actually I think there was more than one uh about how high school kids [clears throat] are really not uh allowed to go down to the to the elementary anymore. And I don't know about this because you know my last kid graduated last year, but I know that AA when she was a student as a teacher's aid, she would go down to the elementary as a teachers aid. Does that still happen? Are we allowing that? >> Yes.

051>> Okay. >> Uh teachers aids are always allowed to move around campus. They go they go everywhere. We have people that work in ours. They deliver stuff. So they're in and out of campuses. So that's that's not an issue. >> Okay. >> It's and we don't want kids to go hang out in their mother's room. Yeah. >> Especially without permission. >> Okay. >> And nothing against those guys. If they need something, that's fine. But they need to get permission and they don't know you just go stay there the whole time. >> So, it's an issue of knowing where people are. >> Correct. >> Dur during the day. >> Yes. >> Okay. Um I noticed there were man a dozen, you know, discussions about professional development in there. uh I and you know most almost everybody

052said you know the if we come up with something that we want to do from a professional development standpoint it's all almost always approved right it's a I I I want this help me make it you know but there were some some comments about uh you know really wanting to see um you know subject matter groups you know trained at the same time you know teaching teaching teams at the elementary, you know, getting together and figuring out. I I think it would, you know, I I think we might want to discuss moving from a teachers figure out what you need and ask for it to the administration developing plans for groups, you know, of this teaching group. We've met with them. This is where they think they need help. This is where the administration [clears

053throat] thinks that, you know, we need the testing says we need and doing something more formal along those lines. Doesn't have to be, you know, just a ton, right? But I I think it might be time for us to get a little a little more formal in that. Okay. So, one thing is we've always been so small that we've just basically had one or two teachers. As we are growing now, as y'all see the numbers and we're adding three, we have three teachers per grade. we can now start grouping people together. Whereas before we had one for third grade, one for fourth grade, one for fifth grade. It's going to be where we're going to get to be multiples. And so that will be possible. And this is going to be something that Kristen will

054be able to take over. Mr. Jooski, uh, she does most of that. She tracked it. Matter of fact, we had a comp day on the 14th and every teacher that we had in the district got their hours during the summer outside of school to have that comp day. So, we were we're very excited that they took the initiative to to want to do those things. that I I think that will I think that will [snorts] be, you know, hugely beneficial if we say, you know, the first working with the I'm just going to pick a grade, you know, kindergarten teachers, this is what they this is what they feel they need and and we we help them along with that. Um, I'm going to skip that one and I'll come back to that. Um, let's

055see. I I think that the the board uh there was one comment about the board uh I mean one comment on there or two comments about really wanting to promote the higher level or AP courses and I know the board has discussed that. >> Uh I I would ask that that the high school you know come up with a you know a discussion about that and what we can what we can do to you know provide more at the upper level there. Uh, and that'll go to Miss Scottberg. She does a she does a great job staying on top of all that stuff. >> Um, I I do have a question just because there there there was more than one comment about online uh courses. Uh what other than than credit recovery, you know, what

056are we doing with online courses other than credit recovery and and uh college courses? >> Spanish and that's it. >> Because we don't have Spanish teachers. >> Well, no, I I I know that. So I I mean that's a full online course >> now. All of our curriculum now is online. I think that's what it was alluding to. Kind of what we talked about last week, like our last meeting, just not making it to where everything has to be on the computer. I believe that's what cuz I had teachers come talk to me that they would like to start printing more copies and and using more paper and stuff like that. And I said, "We're bored." That's what they kind of talked about. We don't want to spend so much time on the computer. I

057think that's what it was alluded to because a lot of our curriculum, it's all online now. like you can't even buy it. You just you have to buy the curriculum online. And so I think that's from what I got from people that I talked to about the survey is that's what was kind of leaning towards like we just don't want to come to where now we're just putting all of our kids on computers to learn. Um and that's that's kind of what a lot of the curriculum should >> Okay. >> I didn't realize that. I thought it was the opposite. >> Well, I I I did kind of too. So, so what what I'll say is I just want to remind all of you that that the board has been very clear that we want

058to limit >> you know if you need paper let's get it >> okay >> and we have we have used a lot of paper >> and the the other thing is uh Mr. Glass this was kind of the Mr. class. This was kind of the discussion that we we had. We have talked about as a board having uh the um the monitoring of how much each student is online. Uh Mr. Glass has said that the the software that we have is capable of doing that. I'd like to see every other month quarterly statistics about if we're if we're keeping to those limitations that we've placed. You know, it doesn't do much good if we if we put those in and if we don't make sure that we're maintaining it. Uh and after the first couple,

059Mr. Dyer, I think that's something that can just go to the principles or you and you can just say, "Hey, we we've looked at it." I think while [snorts] we're while we're getting used to it, it would be useful for us to see it. >> I I was able to get in tonight and I saw that last week the average screen time for both for the high school was an hour and an hour and 1.51 hours >> per day. Per day >> per day uh for the whole week and then per day and then the week before was 1.37 hours. I emailed her at my contact at the company and asked if there was a way to break it down. >> Great. >> Further and she's getting I haven't obviously haven't heard back from her.

060>> Yeah, it would be interesting if we can break that down especially in the elementary because our the standards that we put were were age you know age descriptive >> to put it in perspective it was 1.51 for the high school the elementary was 1.2 two >> and I know they said benchmarks last. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Yeah, >> that was [snorts] that has to be online because that's the way the test is going to be. That that kind of thing is understandable. I mean that's just >> it's the way it goes. But it it any way that we can break that down like we were talking about that. Thank you for checking on that. I appreciate it. >> Um number eight we're uh is really a a safety issue, right? >> Yes. So,

061we'll we'll hold that. We'll >> talk about that later. >> Uh and so um everybody knows that we've had issues with leaks, you know, and we have uh we have had at least one classroom that we had to do uh a remediation on. uh we have discuss and there was there were several comments that people you know feel like their room might be an issue. Uh I I would like to to do two things. one, I would like to find out if there is I is a easy process that our maintenance staff can do once a year to go through and do a check in in those rooms uh and do the whole campus and then if it needs it, we can bring in a professional. I'm not saying that we're saying it needs to

062be remediated or not. I think that this check would be appropriate to say this room needs to be further investigated. And and I've talked to Anthony. He's going to buy one of those machines that the guy brought set up. Yeah. And he charged us like >> brought at $2,000. He worked about 10 minutes and then said we didn't have anything. So we're just going to buy the machine and he can do that. And like you said, if something alerts, then he will pass that on to >> we'll know to designate that room. >> Well, and then and then if we if we make sure that we do it every year and we tell the teachers, we've checked your room, it came back fine. You know, I think that that will relieve concern, you know, but

063at the at the same time, it will also, you know, we we don't have to wait until there's an obvious problem if there is a problem. You know, we can get on the maintenance a lot faster. >> And to clarify, you're wanting a moisture check. >> Well, that Yeah, that's what this does air quality, right? >> Uh but those are two different pieces of equipment. >> The air quality is going to tell us if there's a moisture issue. So once we get do the air quality, then we bring in somebody to do all the other checks. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> And then that way >> makes sense. >> It it we're we're just we're certain, right? And we can we can adjust that. So I does does anybody else have anything any questions? [clears

064throat] >> Okay. So my next one is uh parking lot. U Paragon brought in some guys uh about [clears throat] two weeks ago to look at their park to do. And I've got them looking at two things that I want done. We have to replace the entrance on us. I'm looking at getting a bid where the yellow gates are uh for parking for teachers for the elementary. And then I want him to give me a quote on what it would cost to pave the um baseball softball parking lot. Uh cuz we're going to have to expand our parking cuz we are running out of parking places. Which brings up the next point. I don't know if y'all noticed when you drove in tonight. Uh the brand new fresh lines got painted Friday. Over here they're

065going to move to behind the fieldhouse on Tuesday of next week and do that. And then he's going to we have one parking place across the road at the football field that exits out to the dirt road. People like Park there where he's going to he's going to mark that one as a no parking zone. >> So kind of dressing a few things up so it looks a little better out there. Okay, >> that's my report. Awesome. All right, any questions board? Oh, I I do have one. Uh are we're going to put the uh the administration um uh review process on the on the agenda for December. >> Uh you're talking about merit pay. >> Yeah. >> Yes. >> Okay. report. If you remember, that was our our request to say come up with

066a a review process that will that will um you know, kind of standardize that review so that we don't have to have a discussion every year that's long and drawn out about about what we're going to do with those contracts. Okay. Anything else? All right. We'll move on to item number six, which is the tax roll resolution. Well, you know, this is what we do every year and I'm just going to say it kind of is what it is. This is something we need to get done so we can submit this in. >> So, this is the resolution from the from the appraisal district. Is that correct? >> Correct. [snorts] and board members. Uh there is um on the next page there, it's kind of sideways and not not particularly easy to read because it

067was highlighted, I think. Right. >> Um there's some numbers there. Did anybody have any questions about this? Let me see if I can turn this right. I did. >> How does that help? >> They can see it. >> Yeah. Let me shrink it down one. >> I don't know if you can see all the numbers in the >> There you go. >> In the box. The interest in sinking is 1.797 million. >> Right. >> The M is 6.276 I think that is. >> Yes sir. >> Uh and penalties >> penalties there. and you know so and then you come down here the number of properties that were in special assessments >> 2020 >> yeah and then so the in that tax cycle here cycle one uh they you'll have uh about a little over $8

068million almost $ 8.1 million 7500 2 properties total. >> All right. Any questions about that? Board members, >> is there a motion to accept the uh the tax roll resolution as presented in your packet? >> So, >> Tammy, any second? >> I'll second. >> Read. Uh any discussion? Okay. All in favor, please raise your hand. Any oppose? That's 50. Uh we'll we'll move on to number se uh seven which is the um appraisal district uh ballot for uh the board of directors. Um you know the appraisal district is is overseen by a board of directors. Uh that board of directors is elected by the taxing entities that make up uh you know that they that they do their work for. Um, I have served on that. Uh, I have stepped down. Uh, and we at

069our last special meeting, we nominated Brian Van Dyke for that. [laughter] >> Thank you for doing that. >> Yes, thank you very much. Uh and uh just so everyone knows the number of votes that each uh um body gets is based on the percentage that we that we represent of the total amount that they that they uh collect on behalf of other entities. Uh so we have a number of votes we are uh able to cast those votes for these folks in any way, shape or form that we please. Uh, I make a motion uh that we uh cast all of our votes for Brian Van Djk. Uh, is there a second? >> So moved. >> Uh, now we have discussion. Uh, is everybody okay with that or you know you you don't get to

070say no. So I do want to add something to this. So Madisonville usually votes their votes uh the same way we do. >> Yeah. So you will get additional votes from Madisonville ISD that are basically in Bis and I think it's 120 is what they have. >> Yeah. I mean they have [clears throat] an amount of land in Grimes County that's in their district. >> Okay. All right. Now we need a vote. >> All right. Uh if there's no discussion, all in favor, please raise your hand. All opposed. Good job. Good luck. I I Let's see if you get on. All right. >> I'm so happy with her, Alec. >> I I'm really happy to to Well, I can't be too happy. I'm already off the board. So, uh it it just it it is

071important that we have representation on that board. So, thank you for for doing it. Uh item number eight is our election calendar. Uh this election calendar um is is for the uh board member positions that are up. Who all is up? Uh the only who are not up are Tammy and Coach. >> Okay. So everybody else will be will will be up. Uh the the calendar uh the calendar here January 1st is the first day to apply by ballot by mail. The 14th is the first day to apply for a place on the ballot. Um and then the last day to order a general election, so that'll be a board action is February 13th. and that's also the last day to to file for a play. So, I'm assuming that that's a time period and

072then after that happens, we can call that. And then April 20th is early voting starts and the last day to apply by ballot by mail. The 28th is uh the last day to vote early and then May 2nd will be election day. So, that will be also the day that we have the bond election as well. Correct. Correct. >> Okay. So, let's see. Is there >> can I think >> I I we need to just uh approve the election calendar as presented. >> Yeah. So, is there a motion to accept the uh election calendar as presented? >> So, move. >> Is there a second? >> All right. Uh we've got a motion that's made and seconded. Is there any discussion? All in favor, please raise your hand. Any oppose? That's 5. Now, we'll get down

073to the school bus seat belts. This is the seat belts for the three that that you discussed in in the public hearing. Correct. >> We like to get that done so we can get them done in December during Christmas break. >> And that totals to $99,28563. Uh on this motion, do we need the specifically the amount or what if they get in there if something goes above that? Do you need up to a certain amount? >> Uh I don't think we have to put the amount. I think we can just uh approve the work is is what we would normally do. >> Okay. I just like the motion's written with the number in there. That's the only thing I was >> So I I'll move that we approve the retrofit of the school bus uh

074seat belts on those three buses. Is there a second? I'll second. Coach, >> uh, is there any discussion? [clears throat] >> So, the these are the three buses that we're just going to have to do the >> just the CS. So, >> the three newer ones. >> Three newer ones. >> So, each one was 33,000. >> 30. Just want to be clear. >> Any further discussion? All in favor, please raise your hand. Any opposed? Okay. So now we're going into personnel. Uh do we But you want to go into close session. Correct. >> And student. >> So uh ladies and gentlemen, we're going to go into close session at 7:26 for uh personnel which is 551.082 and student safety which is 551.087. uh the board will step out and uh we will come back in

075and you're welcome to stay if you'd like. Record of people that stayed. >> All right, I'm going to call us out of close session at 8:16. We're going to move on uh to continue on personnel. Uh we will accept the employment of uh Shannon Hurt and the resignation of Tracy Mabberry. Is there a motion to accept those two? Magog >> red. Is there a second? >> Second, >> Brian. All in favor, please say I or raise your hand. I'm sorry. >> Uh, okay. Uh, that is 5. And then now we will entertain a motion to adjurnn. Tammy, any second? Red. All in favor, raise your hand and then go home. always.
