like to welcome everybody to the Lake Dallas Independent School District Board of Trustees meeting for April 20th, 2026. All members of the board are present and we do have a quorum established. If you would please join the board in a brief moment of silence. Thank you. We'll ask the Lake Dallas High School Student Advisory Council to come forward and they're going to lead us in our pledges of allegiance. Thank you. All right, we'll move on to our student staff reports and recognitions. The first of which is Lake Dallas High School Student Advisory Council. Perfect timing. They're going back to their seats. They're just going to have to get back up again. We're going to hear from Dr. Gindle, our principal at the high school. Hi. >> Good evening, President Stacy and Dr. Brown, members of
the board. Yes, this group that uh came up here, I'm super excited to present about tonight. Um I think one of my favorite parts about this group is uh there's such a a great uh collection of voice across our campus, across every grade level, 9 through 12, and across various parts of um organizations within our school. So, we lean on this group pretty heavily and I know Dr. Brown does in her um meetings with them about quarterly. And so we are excited and we're thankful for their leadership on our campus. And tonight I'm excited to present them with some certificates. So students, when I call your name, you're going to come on up here. Okay. First up, Destiny Atkins. Isaac Bird's Eyee, Presley Clark, Sayia Foster, Emtt Holberg, Davin Hopkins, Nora Jagger, Truit Lee McKiton,
Chance Phillips, Kylie Sal, Callie Salmon's Jackson Schaefer, Angelie Sing, could not be here. Emily Scalson, did she make it? Presley Sloan, Brenton Sweetland, don't he's here. And Ella Ren. All right, your 2526 Student Advisory Council. Thank you guys. You may return to your seats. We'll take pictures in just a little bit. >> All right. Our next uh recognition is Lake Dallas visual art VAS regional medalist and state qualifier. I I don't know if y'all know this, but this is a real surprise that we're going to get to hear from Janette Murray, our Lake Dallas High School art teacher extraordinaire. >> Thank you. Thanks for having us back. We're always happy to celebrate our kids and we're kind of on the downhill slide of our uh our school year, but also our um our art show
and art competition season. So, I have a lot of really good information to share with you tonight. Um, see if I can make technology work for me. So, BAS, the visual arts scholastic event is our UIL equivalent competition. Um, it's our biggest competition of the season. And this year, we took um 22 students with 26 works of art. And, um, the students not only compete using their work of art, but also their knowledge of their process and their concept, their meaning, the elements of art, the principles of design. So they really have to know the ins and outs of art to be able to talk about their piece. So twothirds is based on their artwork itself and one-third is based on their interview with the judge. They're scored um a one through four. Four being
the highest or superior rating. And um this year I think I'm skipping ahead of myself. I'm sorry. Um we received two excellent ratings which is really great. And we received 24 artworks with superior ratings which also means that they are regional medalists. So, here are our regional medalists for the school year. And you'll notice that some of them are double medal winners, which means they took two pieces and scored fours on both of their pieces, winning double medals. So, we're really excited for all of these young student artists. We didn't want to pack the stadium tonight, so we included a picture of some of them here. We're happy to pack the stadium, though, if you'd like us to sometime. But beyond that, um, once a student has received a superior rating, they go into a
second round of judging to move on to state. And we have Emma Quinn here tonight, who has advanced to our state competition. So, Emma's artwork is going to be competing in San Marcos this coming up weekend. Hopefully, we'll be coming back with another award for her. And um more impressive too for not just Emma but for the entire visual arts department is this is the 25th year in a row that we have had a student advance to the state level in the visual arts. So we're super proud of you, super excited for our art department, too. Thanks for having us. The inside joke is that she's at every meeting giving a presentation just because they're they do so good under her, but it's still the joke. I'm sorry. >> Oh, yeah. >> That's cool. What
is that? What is it done with? What's the media on that or whatever? >> I got excited. Um, so the students initially had to create a self-portrait that they would translate into a pastel artwork. Um, but I had a group of freshmen, she's a freshman, who just created these really beautiful portraits of themselves. So, she did all of her makeup. She did all of the lighting. Um, set up the photography herself. Um, and this is used for pastel piece that she's completed, too. I didn't include that because it wasn't the state winner, but her piece and some of the other freshman's photographic pieces were so beautiful, um, that I had them just submit the photographs to the competition and all of them scored for us on their pieces as well. So, they did some really
beautiful work in preparation for some other projects, too. >> Very nice. The the reason I ask about that is because some of the art they do is so good that I couldn't tell it from a real photo. So, knowing that that's a photo, I was like, "Okay, kind of disappointing. I thought she drew that." But still good. Still good. Still good. Still good. All right. Yeah. All right. Our uh next recognition is the Lake Dallas High School UIL Speech, Debate, and Academic Success. We're going to hear from Stephen Bell, Jesse Eubanks, and I'm sorry, I don't know how to pronounce this name. What she said, the it's our Lake Dallas High School speech, debate, and academic sponsors. >> Yeah, good evening. Thank you for having us. I'm Stephen Bell, speech and debate coach, help out
with all things UIL. I've got a couple of the other sponsors here with me. I'm going to let them uh talk about their contestants and their success this year. Right. I'm Jesse Eubanks. I teach English too at the high school and I'm the spelling and vocabulary sponsor. We've got Elena Clemens here tonight. She's receiving um some recognition. She has won first place in spelling vocabulary at district 948. This is her third year in a row to win uh first place. And it's by a pretty wide margin, too. She's not just good at spelling. She is a phenom. She is a generational talent. And it takes that and that says a lot because it takes a lot to be good at that event because is not just knowing how to spell words. Uh there's a lot
that goes into that event. You have to you're accountable for knowing what a lot of the words mean and uh you know certain word forms, how they pluralize, how they're used in a sentence. Um and you're tested on all of that and it's a very intense competition that stretches all the way back to July when the list comes out. A list of 1500 words comes out and they have to know it for March. So they are cramming a lot in there and she has done really awesome. So, I'm proud to be her sponsor and have had such success with her. >> There's Elena right there. stepping over here for a second. Yeah. Up front. Yeah. Uh we also had some success at the district contest and Lincoln Douglas debate. Um that is a contest of
debate that we participate in. It's one-on-one. Uh we're here to recognize Lily Hoffman who unfortunately could not be here this evening. Um but she will compete on Saturday at the regional contest. Uh this is a first for our program. We've competed we've advanced in some other contests but Lincoln Lincoln Douglas debate has been the elusive one. Uh and we finally got through this year to region. Lily has worked really hard. She's our uh team captain um and a senior. She won four consecutive rounds at the district tournament against some really strong competition eventually reaching the final round placing second place there. Uh this contest asked students to take a stance on a philosophical or ethical issue. The current topic is about the morality of economic globalization versus protectionism for developing countries. I'd love to hang
around and chat about that afterwards. Uh I can answer all your questions that I'm sure you are writing down right now. Uh but that's what Lily's been working on for this past semester. Um and we start in really knowing not a lot about it and she's I'd say an expert at this point. So, she will represent us very well on Saturday. Uh, a few years ago when we kind of revitalized this program at Lake Dallas, we had set a goal, three-year goal to advance past district and all the contests we do. And this was the last um to-do list to-do item on that list. So, we've had a lot of success thanks to students like Lily and and thanks to y'all support. So, we appreciate that. All right. And my name is Kyrie Heriki. I'm
a math teacher at the high school. I teach most of the upper level courses. Um, and I'm also the math UIL coach. And we've got three different competitions. We've got mental math, we've got calculator focus, and then the team we're talking about tonight is our just nice plain old mathematics team. Uh, this contest requires literally everything they could possibly learn in high school math. everything from their basic algebra skills to geometry and it even gets into calculus and statistics um especially at the district level. Um and we placed second place is the best placement we've had the entire time I've been at Lake Dallas. Um and I'm just so proud of these kids. Uh we've got a couple people that couldn't be here tonight, but I'll go ahead and start with Elena since she's up
here. So Elena, you get another certificate. And then Coranka, will you come up here? Coranka Mauricio Compos and Emily Scousson and Jacob Bailey. And then missing from our team tonight is Ajateesh Malavaru. But and we're hoping that next year with some of the changings of the redistricting that we'll actually managed to, you know, cinch first place. So looking forward to that. All right. >> Congrats. >> Okay. Our next recognition is the UIL A+ academics district meet results. And we're going to hear from uh Denise Kennedy, our student initiatives director, and Carrie Blevens, Jennifer Bryant, and Ashley Fay, our elementary school principles. Hi. >> Hello. >> How's it going? >> It's wonderful. How are you today? >> I'm doing pretty good. >> Outstanding. All right. Well, good evening, um, President Stacy, Dr. Brown, and members of
the board. Um, I'm here to talk to you today about, um, the elementary version of UIL academics. And if I can remember how to do this. There we go. So in true fashion, I like to start with a little bit of history and the UIL A+ academics and how it started. UIL recognized early that the path to education educational excellence begins with young learners. Academic competition for elementary students has been a part of UIL since its early years starting with the junior division declamation contest in 1913 for students ages 10 through 14. In 1921, opportunities expanded further with the introduction of spelling for students under age 10. And for those of you who don't know, the declamation contest is a contest where there are a handful of um literary like speeches, poems, and dramatic pieces
that are memorized and performed and then judged. So, um, A+ Academics Today, okay, was officially established in 2008 and is UIL's academic competition program for students in grades 2 through eight. It features 20 events spanning the curriculum designed to enhance classroom learning and build cross-disciplinary skills. Um, each year approximately 3,000 Texas schools participate in over 400 district meets. Our campus uh preparation began in August. Each campus designated a UIL campus coordinator to recruit coaches and help encourage kids to participate in offered events. This year's campus coordinators are from Corinth Elementary, Allison Macauen. Um from Lake Dallas Elementary, Miss Karen Tip or Karen Anderson. And then from Shady Shores Elementary, Cammy Tips. Six events were offered this year with over 50 kids competing. Um we had kids competing in art, creative writing, number sense, oral reading,
spelling, and storytelling. So how the magic happens. Um coaches set up practice times with their students and away they went. Students were challenged beyond the classroom to think deeper and perform at a higher level. The coaches were able to inspire curiosity while building advanced academic skills. Learners tackled complex problems and practiced performing under pressure. Teams supported one another, building confidence and a shared sense of accomplishment. All of this practice culminated in fierce competition at the LDISD UIL A+ academics district meet that was held on Saturday, March 28th at Lake Dallas Middle School. And at this time, I would like to invite the elementary principles and their campus coordinators to present um certificates of recognition to our first through third place winners in all six of those categories. >> All right. Um Ash, we're starting with
Jennifer Bryant. >> All right. Good evening, board. It is my great honor to recognize some outstanding leaders from Shady Shores Elementary tonight. The first one is Knight Gonzalez for his third place number sense in the UIL District Meet. Awesome job, Knight. The other way. Oh, admire it. >> What? Okay, we'll fix it. I promise. It is my great honor to recognize Oh, let me see. In storytelling, third place to Piper Summerman. And in second place, storytelling, Caroline Bassinger. And in first place storytelling, Riley Comfort. All right, good job, guys. One more clap for y'all. Do you want them to wait and y'all keep going? Okay, we'll keep going. Y'all just stay right there. All right. Next up is Miss Blevens from Lake Dallas Elementary. >> All right. Good evening. I'm excited to recognize three amazing
students. Avery Hay. She's a second grader and placed first in creative writing. Next up, Elelliana Brown. She's also a second grader who placed second in creative writing. and Harper Phillips, who's a fourth grader who placed third in spelling. Great job, girls. So proud of you. All right. Well, good evening. We'll continue recognizing her elementary UIL students. Thank you. We are going to start off with Miss Jasmine Wright who is a fifth grader at CE who placed first place in art. You go right over there. Next we have Camila Fernandez Le who is also a fifth grader at C who placed second in art. Then we have Austin Hustedi who is a fifth grader at CE who plays third place in art. Next we have Helen Gober who's a second grader at CE who placed third
place in creative writing. And then next we have Tatiloo Pereira who's a fifth grader at CE who plays first place in number sense. And then we have Ricardo Sanchez Castillo who's a fifth grader at C who plays second place in number seven. Then we have Jimmy Sykes who's a fifth grader at CE who plays first place in oral reading. And then we have Miss Scarlet Kading who is a fifth grader at CE who plays second place in oral reading. And then we have Riley HL who is a fifth grader at C who plays third place in oral reading. And then we have Oi Pereira who is a fourth grader who placed first place for spelling at CE. And then Laney Knuckles who placed second place for spelling at CE. And then Miss Samantha Wickman who
competed in this competition all by herself. Is she here? Not tonight. But she represented the spelling for fifth graders across the district. So that was wonderful her for her to do. >> All right. Thank you guys. >> Okay. Okay. So, we're gonna this will be that's part one. So, we're going to get some pictures with all of these groups of kids with the board. So, we're going to do that real quick and then we'll jump into part B. All right. That was cute. They're still up Anyway, are you going to be in the same Are you happy? Mrs. Poston. >> Mrs. Poston, are we ready? >> Yes. Okay. >> All right. We are we're ready for the second half of our our recognitions and there's going to be like five of those. So hang on.
Here we go. All right. Our next one is Lake Dallas High School choir UIL success. We're going to hear from the choir director at Lake Dallas High School, Laura Jenkins. Hi. >> Hello. Thank you for having us here this evening. We appreciate your time. Um we wanted to talk about the um LDHS choir UIL success. I brought some of my kiddos up here to help me with our presentation this evening. Uh, our choir students received sweep stakes at UIL concert and site reading contest. It was at Decatur High School at the very end of last month. Students received straight one superior ratings from all six judges. Lake Dallas Varsity Mix Choir was one of the eight out of 34 coral ensembles that received straight ones. Here's a picture of those darling kiddos. Um, and I've
got uh the kiddos here are going to read the comments so you can hear what our judges had to say about them. >> Choir, this is the best singing I have heard all day. I truly appreciate the finesse and agility that this choir performs with. This choir is a vibe and finesse and suave. Suave is the name of said vibe. >> Excellent. So smart choir. Stunning. It was such a musical delight to hear you all sing. >> I can I can hear the consonants popping in the tapestry of the line singing within the boundaries of beautiful excellent lit of the line. Articulation of rhythm structure. So well done choir. >> Outstanding tonal production and timber. Excellent balance and blend. This choir reads so well. Excellent read. Exquisite understanding of the musical elements. Solid, beautiful, resonant
tone. I love your steady tempo and how you're pulsing the notes. Beautiful legato singing today. I really enjoyed listening to you. The hard work paid off. >> Thank you guys. Uh this is a kiddo. Um these are all the kiddos. We were missing one that day. Uh I think Raul was sick, but uh these are the rest of the kiddos. Um and just a quick word, we were really really proud of them. um we were the second to last choir to go out of 34 that day and we were told twice that we were the best choir that they had heard um the entire day. So, I'm super super proud of these kiddos. They've worked really really hard and um I'm excited that you could be here to recognize them. Thank you. All right, our
next recognition is Lake Dallas High School girls soccer team and we're going to hear from Hey, Nate Dog. >> What's up, >> Coach Nathan Davis? What's up, man? How are you? >> Doing well. Yourself? >> I'm I'm doing pretty good. >> Good. Y'all stand up there. >> Ladies and gentlemen of the board and Dr. Brown, thank you so much for for allowing us to come tonight to be to recognize the girls soccer program this year. Um, we have four athletes here. Two of them came straight from a training to to be with us tonight. So, um, we had a good season this year. Uh, we were for the first time in, as far as I'm con, uh, as far as I know in our program's history, we were back-to-back district champions. Uh, we were 10
and0 in district. uh as a repeat from last year, we were also 10-0. Um we had an overall record of 19 and three, uh which is also the most wins that we have had in our program's history. Uh so good things for that. Um as far as our scored goals, we had 126 goals scored on the season and 16 against. Uh we only gave up one goal in district this year and then three goals in the playoff game. So had a very very solid year. Um it's another good uh recommendation not recommendation but acknowledgement for our student athletes. We student and athletes uh for for our district. 21 of our 22 athletes were uh recognized as academic all district. And to be academic all district, you have to have a 90 or above average for
the quarter in which they they participated. Uh they miss school, uh a lot of school just to get out early to make it to games and tournaments. So they miss school. For them to be able to keep up with those grades um is very important. Um very excited for what they did. Uh by district champ by district champions uh district champions made it to the area round. uh lost to the region champion which was Walkahhatchee life. We look forward to having another opportunity next year to take them on and and possibly beat them in the in the second round. Uh tonight we have with us, give them their certificates here for for recognition. We have Harper Schwart, one of our team captains and a junior. We have Annabelle Ward, one of our sophomores. Selena Espinosa,
another sophomore, and Ashley, another sophomore. Uh, one other thing I just want to acknowledge. We lose four seniors off of this year's team. And unfortunately, we are going to lose Harper. She is a junior and she is accepted a opportunity to go play her senior year at IMG Academy in Florida. So, she will be missed, but this is a great opportunity for her. And as far as I I know, this is the first time that we've had a player go to IMG Academy for um the specialized training that they can offer for her. So, thank you very much. Have a good evening. Congrats, y'all. All right. Our next recognition is Lake Dallas High School boys soccer team. And as we're gonna hear from Brandon Martin, our boys coach. >> You want all of them in
the front? Is that okay? >> Sure. Is this a button to make it go? >> Which button do I push? >> Oops. All right. So, this um first slide is a little bit about our journey to where we um ended up today. We were the district 84A runner up, finished in second place behind Castleberry. Uh we went on to by district um after struggling through district with some injuries, kind of got healthy around the end of it. Uh we beat Eastern Hills one- nothing at Lake Dallas and we went on to the area game and beat Stevenville 1-1 in penalty kicks which was the first penalty kick that we won all season long. I think we lost five. So we needed to do it at the right time. Sure came through. Then we went to
Odessa and beat Isleta 2-1. Uh then we came back to Argyle and played against Decar. We were down two nothing at halftime. Um came back and scored four goals and won that one. Uh then we went to uh Andis to play Palestine for the state semi-final who we had also played earlier in the season. We lost to Palestine I think one- nothing um in a tournament but we were missing a lot of guys that were kind of healthy at this time. So we came back scored two goals I think in the last five minutes to beat Palestine. And then we got to the state final. Um end up losing to LGA one- nothing. Had our chances in the first half and they put one away in the second. The boys played good and we battled
to the end. This is our picture of the team this year in our home kit. Everybody shoot. Sorry, there was an update that I did I didn't get. We can wing it. It's not a problem. Okay. So, I'm going to talk a little bit about all the guys that are up here and boys as I call your name. Uh, turn around and come get the certificate that the board is presenting to you today. So, the first one here is Adrian uh Annayia. He was a senior and captain. He came up big in the playoff games when we needed him to. Uh, the next one is Braden Bragg. Uh, he was one of our goalies this year. Uh, next one, Cooper Denahigh. Played in offense and defense. Alex Flores, he was one of the ones that
was kind of injured off and on, but when he came in, he did a good job for us. Eugenio Goa, played defense at right back. Lance Laviner, our other goalie, who did a good job in the final. Joseph Oba, who was solid on defense throughout the entire year. um Axel Rodriguez, who's not here uh right now, but he was um one of the players that he only participated in I think the first scrimmage. He got hurt in the game against Ryan. Uh and so we didn't have him for the remainder of the season, which which was tough, but he was there every day and uh he helped us out um just by showing up and coaching whenever we needed things done. Um Cameron Sasser, he also was hurt. He came back, I think at the
beginning of district and added to the um attack. Asher Sevenman, who also came back around district and helped with uh our offense. And we have Larry Garcia, our junior. Again, he was kind of off and on, hurt, but when he was in, he helped us out. Braden Martinez, same thing. Uh he came in I think in the middle of the district. He played just a few minutes in the final. Alejandro Romero, another junior came in on defense. Jordan Walton helped out in pretty much every position. Arthur Bellini, sophomore also. He came back around the start of district and that helped us um with our defense to solidify back there. Logan Howell also played some good minutes in district and tournaments. Gyel Huerta gave us some good minutes as well. Elliot Wulman came into midfield and
solidified things there. Jackson Mill gave us some good minutes over district. Ivan Jiannis, sophomore again, uh scored some vital goals throughout the season. Holden Young Bloodood solid when I need him to be. Played a couple district games. Martin Gonzalez, freshman. Martin played a big part of what we did um over the course of the season. And then uh we have lastly Kevin Hurley, also freshman. He came in and did and did well. I wrote some names down so I didn't forget everybody. Um so with regards to uh our success, it's not just um guys on the field or or the coaching staff, it's kind of everybody that uh is one big team. So the trainers up at the school, especially because we dealt with so many injuries um early on throughout the season did a
really good job. So I'd like to thank Kubisc and Parker and also their student trainers for all the things that they did. um the teachers with regards to like helping you know keep the boys in check and um make sure we get all those missing assignments turned in on time due to all the days that we missed. Uh the admin that we had over there, the combination of head and males um worked well with me and helping me out all the logistical things that needed to be done in addition to Sander and Young and Jordan that's here. Dr. Gindle coming in this year as a principal did a really good job of organizing things when they needed to be organized. and also all the APs up at the high school. Uh this year's team, it
seemed like it was really um efficient. The ladies with transportation, Miss Flores, and all the bus drivers, uh Coach Cheney, my assistant, who uh took care of things when I wasn't there, and Coach Davis also helping us with um games throughout the playoff run. Um other coaches that we have at the high school, we generally work pretty well, I think, together, like sharing facilities. So if there was an issue, you know, with um practice and coach Dean and Osborne or even um Fouch and Edwards were willing to work, you know, together with us and give us space. Um the other office staff up at the high school, Miss Carrington and Miss Mayfield here helped a lot with all of the uh the hotel and transportation and food that we had to get on our journey.
Uh and everybody else that's here. I know that you guys were working in the back room uh doing all the calls and and wheeling and dealing uh while we were able to try to take care of stuff on the field. Um and lastly, some of the parents or students, I'm sorry, fans uh those uh supporters that we had in the playoff games was awesome to turn around and see, you know, 50 to 100 200 people or so in the in the stand. Um the parents that helped over the course of the season with us, Mr. Board helped out with concessions. Uh Mr. Denah, Mr. Plof also helped with the um the announcements and the clock and stuff that was run up top. Um Miss Hal helped with the team dinner that we had throughout the
course or the one time we had it for senior night. Um which I think sometime around then seemed like it was a turning point because I think we won that game. It was like eight what was the score boys? You remember 8. Yeah. From there it was kind of bam bam bam. Um but everything kind of came together it seemed like at the right time. Um, unless I want to thank my wife who's not up there, but just her being able to take care of the kids while I'm doing the thing that I love, it's can't ask for anything more. So, thank you very much. was an awesome season by those guys right there. A great season. All right, our next recognition is Lake Dallas ISD Falcon Insider recognition. We're going to hear from John
Modica, our chief chief chief chief operations officer. I guess I'm I'll mislabeled you and that should have gone to somebody else. >> Good evening, Dr. Brown. Good evening, board. I'm not sure how I get to follow up a state runner up, but we will do our best um for our last res recognition. And yes, this is our last. We're going to actually recognize some adults in the room. Um so, we are into our third year of Falcon Insider. Um, just as a reminder, this is a a group that uh well, I'll explain to that, but um so our Falcon Insider this year um was no exception. We had mayor and mayor pro Tim um parents, grandparents, of course, community members and business leaders. So, it was a good group and I know that each of
the four cities are represented as well. So, we were we were happy with this group and they were very engaged, very um uh attentive throughout the entire program. These are scheduled for about two hour windows and I think our shortest was about three hours just because they were very engaged, ask great questions and um when they were on their tours they just loved it. They would sit with the kids and talk and talk to the teachers and staff. So it just it was a great program all around. So this group what they do um they get the opportunity to actually go to each campus throughout the year. So every month we visit a different campus um and they hear directly from the campus administrators, counselors, um sometimes their registars, but more importantly they hear from
the students. They hear directly from their student leaders. Um they're taking on tours of the campus and they get to hear just dayto-day what students experience as far as in the classroom and their in their learning, but also their extracurriculars and their clubs and their student organizations. So uh it's really a great experience. And then we dubtail that each campus uh tour that they're on. We also hear from specific departments within the district. Um so they'll hear from special services, they'll hear from our chief of police, um operations, transport transportation, the whole nine yards. Um so that we hear um just the operations and what it takes to run a school district. Um and just hear the front lines of how we're all here to promote their success, but they get to also experience, okay,
the state regulations, the local regulations, the federal regulations we're under, what it takes to hire a bus driver. Um the skills and certifications you have to come to even step into a classroom. So they hear all of it, all the nuts and bolts and just everything that we do in the background to ensure our kids are learning and safe every day. Um with that, so we did have a a good group. Um not many could join us tonight because they all apparently have other jobs. I don't know. Um but as I call your name, hopefully I didn't miss anybody. If you'll join me up front, that way we can recognize you. Uh, we have Mayor Christy Blue, Ashley Laser. Sorry. Okay. Mayor Pro Tim Tom Newell and Miss Corey Riley. So again, just thank you
to this group. Um, obviously there was more involved here, but these are the ones that showed tonight. So we just thank you guys. Thank you for your present, your engagement, and just your enthusiasm throughout the thing. So thank you all very much. >> Okay, we're going to get some pictures of each one of these groups right quick, so don't run off just yet. >> You guys We'll do Okay. Our next item is the April teachers and employees of the month. Dr. Brown. >> Yes, sir. Those uh employees were recognized last week and the video will play while we're in close session. All right. And speaking of closed session, the open session of the meeting will adjourn. The board of trustees will reconvene an executive session pursuant to one or more of the text one or

We do have uh one person signed up and that is Rachel Cohen Miller here. You'll step up to the podium. We'll be glad to hear you. >> Uh there's
a button and a blue light should come on. >> Okay, >> there we go. Good. Yeah. >> Thanks for having me. My name is Rachel Cohen Miller. I'm the parent of an 11-year-old girl who goes to Lake Dallas Middle School. Um I I want to take a second to thank um Assistant Principal Glenn Eding and Officer uh Green for all the hard work they do. They have made the difference in her year this year. Um I cannot say that enough and by me after, you know, whenever you'll hear me talking about them because they have made the difference in her education this year. Um she's had a lot of support by them and it's unfortunate. Well, let me let me me that said, let me know. Let me tell you how we've gotten to know
them. Um, we've gotten to know them because of the following different things that have happened to her. And I'm going to say some things that are going to shock you. And I think that's good because these are the things my kids hearing in school right now. Today, she was asked if her balls itch and if her cooch burned. Last week, I had to explain to her what a gang bang was because a kid said, "Oh, I heard somebody say he was going to gang bang you." I had to explain that to my 11-year-old. I'm trying not to cry, y'all. Um, in February, a student said he was going to rape her. And so, the reason that we've had the experiences with these two people is because they have come in and helped afterwards, right? They've
they've made sure she's safe in school. Um, they have uh worked together to investigate it, figure out what's going on. I don't know the resolutions, but I know it hasn't happened again once they investigate it and get it dealt with. Um, I appreciate the work that they've done for her, for our family, right? Um, they've taken it seriously. Um, uh, those are the three that happened this year. I'm going to talk about one before that. In the fall, my kid got dry hump. My my my daughter got dry humped by another sixth grader in the hallway. Um, we were told that, um, you know, moving forward it was going to be supervised and that that wasn't going to happen anymore. Um, it did like teachers can't be everywhere at once. It's not fair for them.
You know what I mean? Um, the kid came back to school after that. The same student saw my child in the hallway um when they were supposed to be monitored. Um, screamed at her that this was during class. They were going to touch her anyway, right? I'm going to touch you anyway. She gets screamed at. Miss Glendenning wasn't on campus and the SRO didn't know any of that had happened. Okay. Um all of this to say um they she wasn't told he wasn't told he didn't know and we had to go tell him. And when I went to tell him uh administration was um trying to persuade me not to move forward and not to file a report with him. Um, I understand that my daughter um from my daughter that the students that this
has happened to or from with this is happening with the kids that are saying this stuff to her have interacted with the school administration before. Um, and I don't know what the policy is or mechanism or procedure is to use that to make sure these kids get held accountable for what they're saying in class, but we need to figure that out, right? Um, maybe if they get held accountable the first time, it won't happen to her. Maybe the second time it won't happen to her. Maybe the third time it won't happen to her. Um, but it it seems like a lot of a weight to put on these two people at the school. They need help. >> Thank you. >> Okay. Thank you. Appreciate it. All right. We'll move on to our uh information items.
And I do have this item. Uh under the state board of education rule uh completing required continuing education each year of service is a basic obligation and expectation of any sitting board member. As president I'm required to announce the name of each member who has completed the required continuing education has exceeded the required continuing education and is deficient in meeting the required continuing education. um uh the CEC training progress overview reports included in the packet showing that uh Mr. Baird, Mr. Smith, Miss Collier, Mr. Bartley, Mr. Applebee, and uh Mr. Tucker, and myself uh we've not only completed the required training for the year, but each of us has exceeded it. I want to thank each one of the trustees for your commitment as a board member, not only for completing the required training, but
for exceeding it. All right. >> You're welcome. I'm welcome. >> Accolades. All right. We'll move on to the consent agenda. Consent agenda are those routine items that can be handled in one motion and vote. Do I have any questions or comments during uh regarding the consent agenda? If not, I'll entertain a motion. >> I move to approve. >> Motion to approve by Mr. Smith. Do I have a second? Second by Mr. Applebe. Is there any further discussion? If not, all those in favor of approval, please indicate. And that passes unanimous. All right, we'll move on to our action items. The first of which is consideration approval of final construction payment to Crossing Construction Company LLC. We're going to hear from Mr. John Modica. Good evening. >> Good evening again. Yes, Dr. Brown, board of trustees.
So, we Yes. Um, you may have heard we had a bond project going on the last few years. Um so that CT building was the final the third final phase of the current bond project from 2019. That project is substantially complete. And so um just a you know I'd be remiss if I didn't do a huge shout out to VK our architectural design team and Crossen uh the construction team. It's a phenomenal building. You've all seen it. Um and so we're just really proud of that space. It is, as we know, we opened that in August for students and now we are substantially complete. So, we are asking the board to consider and approve the final payment to Crosslin to end that project. Um, one side note, if you were there the last week at
the high school or even Joe by the day, you're still going to see Crossland at the building. Um, they were awarded the contract to work on the performance hall and do that reconstruction there for the incident that happened in January. So, they will still be around that is a separate project. Uh they actually were in there last week and their scaffolding is up and that uh process has started. So separate from the bondish uh project. Um they will still be around for at least another couple months. >> But I'm happy to take any questions on this. >> All right. Any questions or comments from the board? >> If not, I'll entertain a motion. Motion to approve by Mr. Tucker. Do I have a second? Second by Mr. Bartley. Is there any further discussion? If not,
all those in favor of approval, please indicate. And that passes unanimous. Thanks again. Our next item, we'll hear from Mr. Monica again. Uh is consideration approval of request to purchase of purchase of dark fiber service. Wow. Why I couldn't say that? It's not that hard. >> Uh dark fiber fiber almost fiber. I'm picking it up. Um dark fiber, also known as internet. Um Yes, for the last 10 years we have used Grande Communications as our dark fiber internet provider. Um that will end in May. So as of June we will need to go out uh for another uh request for services and bid for that our dark fiber services. So uh Mr. Hamilton and I have been uh working the last few months putting that bid proposal together and we put that out. Um we
formed a committee here and we've gone through those packets. So you can see this is actually what the service is for. Um 10 gigabytes at least two strands of dark fiber to serve essentially um all our campuses and the auxiliary campuses. Uh this is a 10-year service agreement which is kind of out of the norm especially for our standard operations. Um, but I will say for something a scope of project like this, there's a lot of front-end infrastructure. They literally have to dig um trenches, lay the cable, run the cable um and then install each of the campuses. It's a lot of work up front. Um you wouldn't expect any vendor to come out and do that just for a three, fiveyear project. So it is typical for a project this size to have at
least a 10 year. Uh at the end of this, we can extend it for a mutual for both parties. send it by the year. Uh, another reason we're doing the 10 year is you do get a a better rate. It's a fixed rate. So, you can see here we formed a committee and this is the criteria that we uh graded the packets on. So, purchase price being one of the highest weighted but also reputation references quality of work, how that their services are of good benefits the district specifically obviously long-term cost of the district and then their actual service agreement. We had them do a template for us so that we could look through it all and then uh their invitation plan uh providing that service and then of course support along the way. We
had two um packets returned. So that's where we're evaluated. We evaluated a town broadband is actually um Grande Communications. So they've bought out. So that's one and the same. That's who we've had in the last 10 years. And then Pavlov, you might recognize them. They're uh more on the west side of town, the west side of the highway and they do a considerable amount of work in Corinth and a little bit of Shady Shores. Um yeah, so we graded each of these and you can see the scores here based on those evaluations or the criteria that presented in the last slide. So we are asking the board to consider and approve we were able to move forward and do a service agreement with the sound broadband or grande communications for our dark fiber services. I'm
happy to take any questions. >> Any questions from the board? >> If not, I'll entertain a motion. Motion to approve by Mr. Applebee. Do I have a second? >> I'm going to give that one to Miss Collier. Second by Miss Collier. I know she wasn't as loud, but I heard it. Is there uh any Right. She didn't have any questions, which I'm going to ask. Are there any questions before we vote? If not, all those in favor of approval, please indicate. That passes unanimous. All right. Uh, next we're going to hear from Chief Chad Springer from Lake Dallas ISD Police Department. It's consideration acceptance of the three-year safety and security audit report. Hey, Chief. >> Good evening, President Stacy, members of the board, Dr. Brown. As we discussed in executive session, the final report of
the safety and security audit that was completed by region 10 and we just bring it for your consideration on the acceptance of the final report. Have any questions regarding uh the report, Chief Springer? If not, I'll entertain a motion on an acceptance of this. I'll make a motion we accept the uh audit. I have a motion by Mr. Bear to accept the three-year safety and security audit report. Do I have a second? Second by Mr. Applebee. Is there any further discussion? All those in favor of approval of acceptance of the report, please indicate. And that passes unanimous. Thank you. All right. Our next item, we'll hear from Chief of Staff Molly Abalino. Consideration and possible action regarding the approval of a finding in accordance with the Texas Education Code section 21.210C2 and 19, Texas Administrative
Code 249.14J. that could cause that good cause did not exist for Aaron Vincent term contract teacher to abandon her employment contract position and attempt to resign from Lake Dallas ISD. Hi, >> good evening everyone. Mine is in fact pretty cut and dry and exactly in the language of of the agenda item. So, we are requesting this evening that your finding be uh that good cause did not exist for contract abandonment. Okay. >> Do I have any questions? If not, I'll entertain a motion. Motion to approve by Mr. Applebee. Do I have a second? Oh, was that Mark? Oh, was it? Okay. I'm sorry. They all have the same voice apparently. Mr. Tucker. Motion to approve. Do I have a second? Second by Mr. Bartley. Is there any further discussion? If not, all those in favor
of approval, please indicate. And that passes unanimous. And to dovtail off that, we're our next item is consideration and possible action regarding notification to the state board of for educator certification of term contract teacher Aaron Vincent concerning abandonment of her employment contract and seek sanctions for abandonment of her position. Miss Alina, >> we are asking for your consideration and approval this evening to notify ESPC regarding the matter addressed in at >> all. Is there any questions for Molly? If not, I'll entertain a motion on this item. Motion to approve by Mr. Applebee. Do I have a second? Second by Mr. Smith. Any further discussion? If not, all those in favor of approval, please indicate. And that passes unanimous. Thank you. Thank you. All right, we'll move on to uh our calendar announcements and information items.
And it looks like we get to hear from our superintendent, Dr. Kristen N. Brown. Dr. Brown. >> Thank you, sir. You have a page and a half of great opportunities for you to participate in things with our staff and our kids. One of the highlights, if you'll notice, coming up on the 30th is our Falcon Friends track meet. And so, if you have not had the opportunity to participate, I highly recommend you come out. It's about from 9:00 a.m. to noon and watch our kiddos compete. We have five other school districts, I think, that typically show up. Um, it's a great event. The others I'll let you read through this evening. >> Thank you. All right. We uh our next item is executive session if needed. We do not need it. So um we'll move
on to the next item which is adjournment. It is 8:22 p.m. and we are adjourned. Thank you.
