I watched as students raise their voices from the auditorium to the brewin bowl. We were not quiet observers this year. I saw your views and shared my own with you. And we all celebrated each other's victories. Each and every one of you have made history. Hopefully, you have all seen this theme in action as I have. foreign speech. It has been an incredible honor to
serve with you guys this year. I know that you are all going to do amazing things and I cannot wait to see them. We started this journey together 12 long years ago as strangers. And now I am so blessed to be closing this chapter as a family. As my childhood hero Winnie the Pooh once said, "How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard? Thank you, class of 2026. I am so incredibly proud of all of you, and I know I certainly have been changed for good. 006That was beautiful. Our first speaker will be graduate Jared Patterson, followed Tribute to the parents and faculty by Mattie Adawway and Packer Smith, student body vice president and student body secretary. Then Beckham Cuentes and Johnny Sutherland, senior class vice president and student body service will give us highlights of the class of 2026. We will proceed to this point. Have you ever had a dream that was perfect? One that you never wanted to wake up from? Once I had a dream where one of my classmates, a girl I had a huge crush on, was my plus one on a fancy dinner date, despite some other bizarre elements that would make a flying hippopotamus appear normal in comparison. In that dream, I knew, yep, she's my girlfriend. Of course, the first thing I wanted to do when
I woke up and remembered that we weren't dating was to go back to sleep. And I tried, but she was gone. Many times I've yearned for such visions to return return only to be disappointed by their fleeting nature. Recently, I've discovered the writings of 13th century Persian poet Jalal Adin Muhammad Roomie. This idea I've spoken of is captured nicely in his poem, The Breeze at Dawn. The breeze at Dawn has secrets to tell you. Don't go back to sleep. You must ask for what you really want. Don't go back to sleep. People are going back and forth across the doors where the two worlds touch. The door is round and open. Don't go back to sleep. Here we all are at dawn. High school, childhood, every moment of our lives until now has been somewhat
of a dream. Though the dream was instructive and inspiring and lots of fun, we must wake up and move forward. We can now travel much farther than the short drive to Taco Bell from which we blitz back into the parking lot 67 seconds before 12:55. We can now struggle and win on fields and stadiums that reach much higher than the sloping sides of the Bruin Bowl. Most critical for us now is to not go back to sleep. Even the best night must end. Every dream make way for the rising sun. We must not fear the dawn and what lies through this vast door of opportunity before us. Do not go back to sleep. Listen to the voice of the breeze at dawn. Cast your view upon the door of the rising sun. Go out and
achieve your victory. Do not go back to sleep. Thank you, class of 2026. And congratulations. [applause] Good morning everyone. My name is Maddie Adoway and I'm this year's student body vice president. >> And I'm Packer Smith, this year's student body secretary. >> Today marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. But before we step forward, we want to take a moment to look back with gratitude. >> To our incredible teachers and faculty, thank you for guiding us through these past three three years. You've shaped not only our academic journeys, but also our personal, supporting us in the classroom, on the court, on the stage, and in countless other ways. Your unwavering [snorts] dedication has not gone unnoticed. And it's difficult to imagine where we would be without you. Thank you for your
patience and enthusiasm, your honesty and feedback, and your inspiring devotion to each of our educations. As we move on to this next chapter, we carry with us the lessons you've taught and the examples you've set. On behalf of the entire graduating class, thank you >> to all the parents and families who have stood by us over these past three years. Thank you. Thank you for your sacrifices, your constant support, and for cheering us on every single day. Without you, none of us would be here today sitting on this stage, grateful to have had someone to lean on throughout this journey. You pushed us forward even when it felt like we couldn't keep going and saw our full potential even when we couldn't see it ourselves. You've been with us through it all. The long nights,
the early mornings, the winds, the setbacks. Through every challenge, you reminded us of who we are and what we're capable of. In many ways, you've earned this diploma just as much as we have. Your belief in us has made this moment possible and your support will continue to guide us wherever we go next. Thank you for everything. [applause] So to all the families and faculty who have helped shaped who we are today, thank you for the foundation you've given us to stand on. We couldn't have done it alone and your support will never be forgotten. Thank you. >> [applause] >> I'm Johnny Sutherland, the student body service representative. >> And I'm Beckham Suantes, your senior class vice president. >> Good morning, everyone, faculty, families, friends, and of course, the graduating class of 2026. [cheering and
applause] Today we stand on the edge of a new chapter, looking back at a journey filled with challenges, growth, and countless memories. But before we But before we look ahead, let's take a moment to celebrate what we've achieved, not just as individuals, but together as a graduating class. >> [clears throat] >> We have 1,442 students at Mount View High School representing 39 different countries. Each of these individuals have accomplished so many things. First, we had a myriad of academic accomplishments. We had 28 students earn academic allstate. 30 students achieved ACC scores of 30 or higher. We had 42 students with a 4.0 GPA in our graduating class. And over $10 million awarded in scholarships. 4,369 college credit hours were earned and six of our graduates earned associates degrees. In addition, 62 students received CAS Biteracy
this school year. We excelled in our athletics department with 732 students participating in athletics this school year. Some programs specifically excelled, including our boys cross country team who won state for the fifth straight time. Our [applause] boys track team were also state champions. [applause] Our girls soccer team won the region championship. [applause] Our boys swim team were also region champions. [cheering] We had two individual state champions in girls wrestling and one individual state champion in boys wrestling. [applause] And last, but certainly not least, our boys volleyball team won the region championship and went on to win the 4A state championship. [applause and cheering] Our arts department, sorry, our arts department achieved great things this year as well with 419 people participating in the arts this year. Our wind symphony and sophonic orchestra both made it
to state and four seniors received superior ratings. Nine 19 choir students earn superior ratings at state and all four choirs earned superior ratings at the state large group festival. [applause] And lastly, our drama department, one region and all individual state qualifiers received superior ratings. Four of our Sterling scholars made it to the final round and one of these Sterling scholars placed as a runner up. Additionally, our clubs, school, and community provided loads of service. Our Makea-Wish Week raised over $5,500. Our food drive filled up Mountain View's food pantry. Our National Honor Society completed over 500 hours of service. and our Latino and our Latinos in action completed around 3,000 in our local community. [applause] These achievements did not come easy. They're the result of hard work, long hours, and unshakable leaves in ourselves and each
other. Today, we leave with more than diplomas. We carry the lessons, the victories, and the drive to do even more. Congratulations, class of 26. You you truly deserve this moment. [applause] We will now hear from another graduate, Leah Westover. Following Leah, we will have a performance by the Mountain View Chamber Choir singing Only in Sleep, text by Sarah Teasdale, and music by Eric Esenvalds, directed by Brian Cook. Uh so this year, Mountain View's theme was our voice, our view, our victory. The idea of our voice is messy, as it should be. Our voice isn't all of us agreeing on one thing, but us arguing and communicating and maybe being petty and passive aggressive to a point that is annoying but typical for teenagers. We bring discourse and chaos to every room that we walk into.
Being a teenager, especially a graduated teenager, is the weirdest thing because we're more or less fullown and we're kind of expected to know everything about ourselves and know how to use our voice in a way that represents us. Maybe it's just me. I have no clue how to do that. Um, but I'm sure the parents and grandparents in the room feel the same way. Our voice, both as a collective and as individuals, isn't set. It will always change. As we officially become adults, even if we aren't sure of what we want to say, we should never be afraid to use it. A few weeks before school started this year, I hiked Mount Tanogas for the first time. Shout out to Ken and Lexi and Lexi's mom. Y'all are the best. Um, I only made it
to the saddle. There's no shot I was summiting, but hiking mountain massively changed my view. When you're at the saddle, you're able to look down over the valley. You see like five temples. You see suburbs and try to find your house. You see the lake and you take a moment to take it all in. I've been an ORM since I was five and I've always walked outside to a view of temp. That was the world that I knew. In this moment, I got to look down and see my world from a new perspective. Just like our voice, our view is always changing. There will always be another way to view view your life. There will always be another peak, another valley, another vantage point from which to view the world. Just like our voice, that's
exactly how it should be. Our views are changing and now is the time to look around. And then on this last note, if you know me at all or just looked into my eyes, you know how excited I am about this. We're graduating. The allnighters before tests, emailing teachers at 2 am, and then getting a response 10 minutes later. Are you guys good? um balancing school and work, skipping school to hang out with friends, and then having to skip out on friends to bring up your grade. None of it went to waste. We never have to take the ACT ever again. We never have to take an AP test ever again. [cheering] High school is done. I It was fun. At times, our personal hell, but we did it. This right here and now is
our victory. Here's to the end. Here's to moving away from your family and losing touch with your friends. Here's to our voice and our views changing. Here's to the best and worst years of our lives. And here's to figuring out whatever happens next. Congratulations, class of 2026. And thank you for everything. [applause and cheering] I see their faces Children when I [singing] come back with the glory in [music] time [singing] is forott. What they have [singing] to [singing and music] know [singing] at the door [singing] at the turn of >> [singing] >> in sleep. I see [music] their faces [singing] children. [singing and music] Who is with the crown hair braid [singing and music] with [singing] time is for [singing] them. Who can know we [singing and music] [singing and music] of the [singing] sweet
time [singing] is for them. We [singing] [singing] stom faces. I found them. Do they dream of me? I wonder who am I? Am I a child. Am I a child? A child. Oh, [applause] that was amazing. Um, Daisy and Lexi, your guys' solos sounded angelic. Thank you. Um, we will now be honored to hear from our principal, Kevin Henshaw. Following Mr. Henshaw, it will be a pleasure to be addressed by our esteemed board member, Ada Wilson. [applause] >> [applause] >> Good morning um esteemed faculty, proud families, friends, and the amazing graduating class of 2026. Today we gather not to just celebrate the end of one chapter, but to launch the beginning of something new. As you have heard our theme and three powerful ideas that have defined our journey and will shape our future. Our
voice, our view, and our victory. First, our voice. Throughout these past years, you've learned how to speak with purpose in classrooms, in tough conversations, and in quiet moments of leadership. Never underestimate the power of an authentic voice rooted in truth and integrity. In a noisy world, let yours stand for what is right. Next, our view. Each of you sees the world through a unique lens shaped by your experiences here at Mountain View. Guard that perspective, sharpen it with wisdom, and never be afraid to offer it to a world that desperately needs fresh eyes and hopeful hearts. And finally, our victory. Victory isn't always about trophies or perfect grades. It's about perseverance, character, and choosing to rise again after every setback. Many of you have already fought hard, quiet, personal victories uh during your years at
Mountain View, overcoming obstacles that may not have been seen from the outside. Some of you have sat in my office as we've worked through some of those things. Our school has had many victories this year. As you go forward, what qualifies as a personal victory is up to you. What you aim for in education or personal growth or physical achievements and emotional triumphs is up to you. Aim high. Your victories are up to you. The class of 2026 is your principal. This year marks my final year at Mountain View, too. Serving We love you, too. Ser serving as your principal has been one of my greatest honors. I'll deeply miss this incredible faculty and staff. Truly some of the finest educators anywhere. To my incredible administrative team, thank you. I've had the honor of being
one of the greatest teams I've ever seen. Your support and mutual love for Mountain View will continue to mark make this one of the greatest schools. I'll miss the roar of the crowd at Brewan athletic events and the outstanding and moving performances like we've just seen in our fine arts department. I'll also miss repeatedly reminding you to get to class, giving out gum, and walking the halls of Mountain View every day, saying hello to each of you and watching you grow. You have made Mountain View feel like home. >> [cheering] [applause] >> And I'll I'll carry those memories with me as I know you will too. But as I prepare to step away as you do, I leave with confidence in the lessons we've all learned together. The future's not something that happens to you.
It's something you will help create with your voice, shape with your view, and claim with your victory. To the parents, families, faculty, and staff, thank you. Your love, support, and sacrifice help give these graduates their voice and their view. Today is your victory, too. I will miss you. Congratulations, class of 2026. MBHS, we are the best. Board member Wilson, I certify that these graduates have met the requirements set forth by Alpine School District and the board of education to earn a diploma uh to earn a diploma from Mountain View High School. Thank you. [cheering] [applause] >> [applause] >> Principal Henshaw, congratulations on a bright future ahead of you. On behalf of the Alpine School District Board of Education, I am thrilled to accept your recommendation of these graduates. Students, along with your families and friends,
I congratulate you on the completion of this part of your education. As you leave Mountain View, I am sure that you will do your very best to carry the Bruin spirit wherever you go. You will make learning a lifelong pursuit and plant the principles of democracy into the hearts of the next generation. As you go out into the world, I know that you will find problems to solve, causes to rally around, and service to render, and songs to sing that are uniquely yours. We love you. We support you. And we wish you the very best. Congratulations to the class of 2026. [applause] >> [applause] >> It is now time to present the graduates of 2026. Where a brainiac can break it down on the dance floor. It's a place where one person, if it's the right person, changes us all. East High is having friends we'll keep for the rest of our lives. And that means we really are all in this together. [cheering] Once a wild cat Was I saying East High this whole time? Sorry. Honestly though, quoting Troy Bolton from High School Musical 3, can't really put into words how amazing my high school
experience has been. I'm so grateful for all the people at Mountain View and the wonderful things that they've done. Um, I went to an elementary school and junior high in different boundaries. So when I came to Mountain View, I was new. I didn't have any friends, but I immediately felt that there was a different vibe. I just think the people here are very genuine and very inclusive, and I'm so grateful that I came here because this place is awesome. Um, I hope all of you will will come to the class reunions and by then Jared Patterson will be a multi-billionaire. So, they're going to be pretty awesome. Um, I just want to say I'm so thankful that we got to grow. I really do think this class is special. Um, I think it's awesome that
Fong and Carpenter are graduating with us cuz Mountain View legends over there. Um, and I just want to say I'm so thankful that we got to grow and become better people together and I can't wait to see what we do in the future. Uh, that's it. Once a Bruin, always a Bruin. Thank you. >> [applause] [cheering] >> We will conclude by singing the Mountain View Fight Song led by Sawyer Grow, Tylie Watson, and Sam Price. After the fight song, graduates will exit the arena out the southside uh going rowby row, starting with the back row. Audience, please remain seated until all graduates have exited the floor. >> Class of 26, please rise for the last fight song of the year. >> [applause] [applause] >> Fight All [applause] right. [applause] [cheering] How we feel? We feel
good. [cheering] [screaming] Ah! [cheering] Amen.
