Please welcome Senior Class President Cyra George to the podium. Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. My name is Cyra George, and I am beyond grateful to stand before you tonight as the senior class president of Martinsburg High School. On behalf of the class of 2026, it is my honor and privilege to welcome you to our graduation ceremony. Tonight, we gather not only to celebrate a diploma, but to celebrate a

journey. A journey filled with memories, challenges, laughter, growth, and memories that shaped us into who we are today. Before anything else, I want to thank the people that helped to get us here. Our families, friends, teachers, coaches, faculty members, distinguished guests, and most importantly, God. Thank you for believing in us even during the moments we doubted ourselves. Thank you for showing up to every game, performance, ceremony, competition, and milestone. Thank you for the sacrifices, the prayers, the encouragement, and the unconditional love you gave us along the way. We may not always say it enough, but please know we are more grateful than words could ever express. Class of 2026, here we are. And truthfully, I don't think any of us were really ready for this moment. It feels like just yesterday we were middle schoolers

trying to survive our sixth grade co year, wondering when life would finally feel normal again. Then came eighth grade step-up days, freshman orientation, and walking through the halls of the school that would become our second home for the next four years. And somehow in the blink of an eye, we went from being nervous freshmen to finding our classes to seniors sitting here tonight preparing to walk across this stage. Along the way, we created memories that only our class will truly understand. The Quizlets and cupcakes that got us through Miss Lance's class. Mr. Art convincing us that there was a pool hidden in the attic of MHS. Spending all week long looking forward to Friday night lights. The countless games of manhunt. Stampeding down King Street in the dark to cupcake Miss Lance's yard. The pep

rallies we proudly dominated. Because if there's one thing about the class of 2026, it's that we are all very competitive and we will always get the trophy. Speaking of trophies, we have so much to be proud of. Our girls basketball team made it to states for the first time in 5 years. Our football team brought home two state championships. Our volleyball team made it to states for the first time in a decade. And our marching band has won multiple accolades and awards. Every athlete, musician, artist, student leader, performer, and student sitting here tonight contributed to something much bigger than themselves. Every accomplishment, big or small, mattered. And every single person here should be incredibly proud of what they've achieved. Beyond the awards, the trophies, and the accomplishments, I think what we'll remember most are the

little moments. The late night facetimes trying to finish assignments we definitely should have started earlier. our school group chat, the bus rides home after games, the lunch table conversations, the friendships we built without even realizing those moments would someday become memories we would miss. Serving as your senior class president has been one of the greatest honors of my life. It gave me the opportunity to see just how special this class truly is. And through all of it, I realized something important. Our greatest accomplishment was never what we achieved individually, but what we built together. Looking back over these past few weeks especially, I've smiled seeing so many people branch out, reconnect, and grow closer to one another. I've heard people saying things like, "That was so fun." Or, "I've hung out with people I've never

talked to before." And honestly, hearing those things has brought me so much joy. But it's also made me think, why do we wait? Why do we wait until the ending to step outside our comfort zones? Why do we wait until goodbye is right in front of us to make new friendships, forgive people, or appreciate each other more deeply? Guess what? Life is way too short to only be kind to the people that are kind to you. One thing high school has taught us is that not everyone will be kind, understanding, or fair. We've all experienced moments where we felt overlooked, hurt, or judged. But true character is shown in how we treat people when it's not easy. Be kind to people. Apologize when you mess up. Own up to your mistakes. And forgive others the

same way God forgives us every single day. As we move into this next chapter of life, I hope we choose to lead with kindness. Not because everyone deserves it in every moment, but because kindness says something about who we are. The last important thing I want to leave you with comes from one of my favorite Bible verses, Romans 8:28. And we know that in all things, God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. If you all know me, you know that I live by the phrase, "Everything happens for a reason." Looking back now, I can think of all of us and can see the moments that didn't make sense at the time. Disappointments, closed doors, friendships that faded, failures that felt devastating in the moment.

But somehow those exact moments led us to where we're meant to be. Even when we cannot see the bigger picture, there is still purpose in the process. Sometimes the hardest moments in life shape us into the people we're supposed to become. Drake says, "You only live once." That's the motto. Also known as YOLO. And honestly, as simple as it sounds, there's lots of truth in it. Class of 2026, go out into the world and try new things. Take opportunities that scare you. Talk to new people. Chase the dream you keep putting off because you're too afraid to fail. Don't let fear stop you from fully living your life to its fullest. Because one day you'll look back and realize the moments that mattered most were the moments you took the chance. As we sit here

on Coburn Field for one final time, I look out and see over 300 talented, strong, ambitious young adults who hold the future in their hands. This is our world now and we have the ability to make it better. The truth is not every path ahead of us will be straight. Life will not always go according to plan. And there will be moments where we feel lost, uncertain, or overwhelmed. But being uncertain does not mean we are failing. It simply means we're growing. And while tonight marks the end of one chapter, it's also the beginning of something brand new. Winnie the Pooh once said, "How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard." Class of 2026, this goodbye is hard, but only because these years give us so many beautiful memories worth

missing. Thank you for the laughter, the friendships, the school spirit, the lessons, and the unforgettable moments. Thank you for making these four years so special. No matter where life takes us next, part of us will always remain connected through these memories made. Congratulations, class of 2026. We made it. This is your senior class president signing out. And now it is my great honor and privilege to welcome to the stage a dear friend who also happens to be our student body president, Amaya Mott. >> Hello. Good evening, families, teachers, staff, friends, and most importantly, my fellow graduates of the class of 2026. My name is Amaya Mott, and I am so honored and so incredibly nervous to be giving you this speech as your student body president for the 2025 2026 school year. When I first

got told I was giving a speech at graduation, I did what any other normal girl would do, and I procrastinated. I thought if I didn't think about it, then I wouldn't actually have to stand up in front of all of these people and share my thoughts and experiences about my high school years. It wasn't until Miss Foreman told me there was a speech deadline did I even attempt to write this. Um, and I attempted many, many, many times, but I could never settle on the right thing to write or the right way to write it. I felt an immense amount of pressure because I wanted to find something, one thing that our entire class could relate to as a whole. I could sit up here and talk about the countless memories we've made, like duct

taping Mr. Sherman to the wall or our senior sunrise, senior sunset, or even our senior prank, cupcaking Miss Lance's house. Sorry, Miss Lance. Um, but I finally settled on the idea of change because our entire lives are constantly changing right before our eyes, and we barely even noticed. Tonight is about change. Change is one of the most terrifying things in life because it forces us to leave behind what is comfortable and familiar and it pushes us into new places that we cannot predict. Most of us are excited about what comes next after high school, but if we're being honest, I think a lot of us are scared, too. We're scared to leave the routines we've built. Scared to leave the friends we see every day. scared that one day these halls and classrooms, football games

and performances, and all of these small moments we never thought twice about will only ever exist as memories. Over the last four years, every single person in this graduating class has changed in some way. Some of us became more confident. Some discovered passions we never expected to have. Others have faced challenges that will change them forever. We have all experienced moments that have shaped us and prepared us for the future ahead. As I look around tonight, I realize that these are some of our final moments together as one class. For years, we have walked the same hallways and sat in the same classrooms. We counted down the minutes till the final bell, then the days till summer, and then eventually the years until graduation. And now that that moment is here, I think we wish

time would slow down just a little bit. At least I wish time would slow down a little bit because after tonight, life begins to pull each and every one of us in different directions. Some of us are going to college. Some are going into the workforce. Some are serving our country. Some are still figuring things out. And that's okay, too. No matter where life takes us, we will never all be in one space like this together again. That truth is bittersweet. And I think that's what makes tonight so special. I want to go ahead and thank everyone who helped us get to where we are today. Thank you to our parents and guardians for always providing for us during our times of need. Thank you to our teachers and staff. You make our lives easier.

Thank you for all your help. Thank you for to my fellow graduates for the fun moments we've shared and for allowing me to be your president. And lastly, my rock, my firm foundation. Thank you, Jesus Christ, because without you, none of this would be possible. I want to leave you with my favorite quote. It's from the film Perks of Being a Wallflower. And there are people who forget what it's like to be 16 when they turn 17. And I know all these will be stories someday. And our pictures will become old photographs. We'll all become somebody's mom or dad. But right now, these moments are not stories. This is happening. This one moment when you know you're not a sad story. You are alive and you stand up and you see the lights on the

buildings and everything that makes you wonder and you're listening to that song with those people, the people you love most in this world. And in this moment, I swear we are infinite. Thank you and congratulations, class of 2026. Now, I would like to introduce our National Honor Society President, Leah DeMarco. Class of 2026, friends, family, we are all so happy you guys are here. As Amaya said, my name is Leah Demarco. As everyone sits here and listens to the speeches, I'm here to tell you this is almost the final one. We are all in the moment between the end and the beginning. I know you're all ready to walk across this stage, grab those diplomas, and be a graduate. So, I promise I'm going to make these last few minutes count. As I thought about

writing this speech, I'm reminded of where all of this began. We have grown from the nervous freshman wandering the halls trying to find our classrooms. We learned how to fit in. We grew relationships. A lot of us made mistakes along the way, but here we are. We finally made it. And most importantly, we didn't do this alone. We did this together. Whether you were under the Friday night lights playing football or on the sidelines with cheer or dance, whether you were performing with the band or competing with the AS club, whether you swam, wrestled, or spent your mornings at early meetings, our paths were different, but the place that we had them were all the same. Every practice, every meet, every late night study session was a brick in the foundation to the class of

0202026. As we look forward on what comes next, it's easy to feel a little bit of the unknown. But I'm reminded of a verse from Jeremiah 29:11. For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Prince plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future. Class of 2026, as you step off the stage, hold on to that hope. Know that your path has a purpose. And even when things feel uncertain, there is a plan for your success. Even when we don't have all the answers, he already knows where our paths are going to lead. Every challenge, every lesson, every friendship, and every moment that b brought us here tonight has a purpose. As we leave this chapter behind, my prayer is that we carry

more with us than just memories and diplomas. I hope we carry kindness into a world that desperately needs it. I hope we choose compassion over judgment, faith over fear, and love over bitterness. Success in life will never only be about our titles, our money, or the accomplishments that you have. It will be about how we treat people, how we love others, and whether we leave this world a little bit better than we found it. Some of us are going to leave here tonight and we're going to go to college. Some people will start careers, and some are still figuring things out, and that's completely fine, too. Life doesn't always move at the same pace for everyone. Tonight is more than just the end of high school. It's the beginning to our new start. What I'm

about to say is not scripted. It's not wrote down and it's nothing I got approved by Miss Foreman or any ad any administrators. But tonight I would like to pray over the class of 2026. If you're not the praying type, that's completely okay. Take a moment to yourself. But if you are the praying type, please bow your head as I pray over the class of 2026. Dear heavenly father, God, you have brought us to this moment and we get this opportunity to come together and share all that you have created. I'm so grateful for the past four years that you've given me here at Martinsburg High School. You've let each and every one of us walk through these halls through the same four years. And there's a reason for that. Although we might not all

know it, you were by our sides through every single moment. Every day that we walked through those doors or we walked out and waited for the bell to hit 240, you were standing right by our side. You helped us get to where we are tonight and I thank you for that. As we go on to the next part of our life, a lot of us are nervous. A lot of us don't know what's happening, but give us the hope that you are by our side. Help us just to remember that you are here with us and everything that happens has a reason. Guide us through all the next challenges in life. Stay with us and just love us well. None of this would be possible without you. And for our faculty and staff, help them

to just grow as teachers in the buildings. Help them to keep making such great memories for all the students that are going to go f forward through this school. Help the class of 2026 to be the best versions of ourselves. Without you, none of this would be possible. All the glory goes to you. It's in your heavenly name I pray. Amen. It has truly been one of the greatest honors to grow up alongside all of you. The memories that we've made, the lessons we learned, and even the hard moments have shaped each and every one of us into who we are today. Congratulations, class of 2026. And for the last time, as Mr. AR says, let's go wake up the neighbors. I now welcome senior class treasurer Evelyn Diaz Perez to present the senior gift.

On behalf of the class of 2026, I would like to present Miss Lynch with a check to be used for a new bench to be installed outside the front of our new auditorium. Our hope is that a new bench will help enhance the beauty and charm of our school. Thank you. Good evening graduates, families, faculty, staff, board members, and honored guests. Tonight, we gather here to celebrate the 148th graduating class of Martinsburg High School. For generations, students have walked these halls preparing for the future. And tonight, each of you become pr each of you become part of that proud tradition and legacy. At Martinsburg High School, our motto is enter to learn, go forth to serve. As you leave here tonight, I hope you carry those words with you. Not only as graduates of Martinsburg

High School, but as individuals ready to make a positive difference in your families, your communities, and the world around you. From the very beginning of the school year, you have been more than just students walking the halls of Martinsburg High School. You've been leaders. You've led in ways both big and small through your performances, competitions, academic service, school spirit, in the everyday moments that help shape the culture of this building. You've showed younger students what it means to represent Martinsburg High School with pride. Along the way, you've also helped me grow as a principal. Your energy, honesty, resilience, and willingness to embrace change made this first year one that I will never forget. And for that, I am incredibly grateful. Before we go any further, I want us to take a moment to recognize the

people who helped make this achievement possible. If you are a parent, grandparent, guardian, or caretaker of a senior, would you please stand? graduates, please take a look around. These are the people who have supported you through the early mornings, the late nights, the difficult days, the successes, the setbacks, in every moment in between. They cheered for you, worried about you, encouraged you, and believed in you. Now, if you are a staff member of Martinsburg High School, would you please stand? These teachers, counselors, custodians, secretaries, aids, administrators, coaches, and support staff have invested their time, energy, and hearts into helping you succeed. They challenged you, guided you, and cared deeply about your future. Graduates, I hope you never forget the people who helped you along the way because none of us reach important moments like this

alone. As educators, one of our greatest hopes is that every student who walks across the stage at Martinsburg High School is prepared for their future. At Martinsburg High, we often talk about the three E. We talk that our students when they graduate, they are either enrolled, employed, or enlisted. No matter which path you choose, each one represents purpose, responsibility, and the beginning of a new chapter. Tonight, we celebrate all of those paths in the bright futures ahead for this class. Graduates, if you are graduating tonight and will be entering in a college, university, trade school, or continuing your education in any other way, please stand and be recognized. If you are graduating tonight and will be employed, entering the workforce, beginning a career, or pursuing a professional opportunity, please stand and be recognized. Good job.

And finally, if you are graduating tonight and will be enlisting in the military to serve our country, please stand. >> Graduates, no matter which path you take, know that each one matters, each one is valuable, and each one has the power to make a difference. We are proud of you. Not because of the title attached to your future plans, but because of the character, determination, and resilience you have shown in getting to this moment tonight. Maya Angelou once said, "Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it." I love this quote because it reminds us that success is not about money, titles, awards, or recognitions. True success is waking up each day proud of the person you have become. It's finding purpose in your work, joy in your life, and

peace in the choices you make. There will be moments in life when you feel pressure to follow someone else's definition of success. The world may tell you that you need a certain job, a certain lifestyle, or a certain image to be important. But I encourage you to build a life that is meaningful to you. Choose a path that gives you fulfillment. Surround yourself with people who make you better. Do work that challenges you and inspires you. And never sacrifice your happiness or your character just to meet someone else's expectation. And remember this, happiness doesn't mean life will always be easy. There will be setbacks, disappointments, and difficult seasons. But when you stay true to yourself and live with integrity, you will always be able to move forward with confidence and purpose. As you move into

the next chapter, I want to leave you with four pieces of advice. Number one, do not be afraid to fail. Some of your greatest lessons and opportunities will come from the moments that did not go according to plan. Failure is actually not the opposite of success. It's often part of the journey to success. Second, take care of people. The way you treat others will always matter matter more than any title that you earn. Be kind, be dependable, be someone that others can count on. Third, stay curious and keep learning. Graduation is not the end of your education. It's the beginning of learning about the world and about yourself. Continue asking questions. Continue growing. And finally, always remember where you came from. No matter where life takes you, you will always have a home here at

Martinsburg High School. Carry your memories, your friendships, and your pride with you. And graduates, there's one final thing I think you are all excited about. As you leave high school, starting tomorrow, you can wear your hats, your hoods, your headphones, and be on your cell phone at any time without an adult telling you to put them away. You have officially earned that right to make these decisions for yourself. But here's the important part. Adulthood is really funny. As the freedom increases, so does the responsibility. With that freedom comes the opportunity to make your own choices, create your own path, and shape your future. So enjoy the freedom, embrace the independence, and take pride in the responsibility that comes with it. Class of 2026, tonight we celebrate everything you have accomplished, but even more importantly, we

celebrate everything you are about to become. We cannot wait to see the lives you build, the goals you achieve, and the difference you make in this world. Congratulations, class of 2026. We are so proud of you. It is now my honor to welcome Dr. Ryan Saxs, Berkeley County School Superintendent, to the podium. Thank you, Principal Lynch, for your leadership and your steadfast support of your students. And ladies, let me just say how inspiring it was to hear hear each of you speak this evening to your fellow classmates. You did a great job. They deserve a round of applause. There you go. Students and families, tonight we will be acknowledging those students who have excelled academically. As noted in your graduation program, students with a cumulative grade point average of 3.8 and above are evolving as

sumakum lad and will be dawning the Berkeley County Scholar medallions with gold ribbons. Let's give those students a round of applause. Those students with GPA between 3.4 and 3.799 are recognized as Magnaumla and will have silver ribbons for their medallions. And all of those between 3.0 and 3.399 are graduating kumla with white ribbons for their medallions. Alto together we are acknowledging 378 graduates today. Before we get started, I would like to leave with one final thought uh for our graduates as they walk across the stage. As you walk across the stage and you enter the next phase of your life, discover your why. Live pure, speak truth, and go get them, Bulldogs. It is my pleasure to help present the diplomas to the Martinsburg High School graduating class of 2026. Please welcome Master of Ceremonies,

Mr. Mark Birkhart, to the podium. Thank you, Dr. Saxs. All right, I know you all are ready to do this. You ain't got to worry about nothing. All right, we will now proceed with the presentation of diplomas. Members of the audience, please remain quiet and respectful toward the senior class until all seniors have received their diplomas. We're asking this to ensure that all of you can hear the names of the graduates re as they graduates recognize they are called. We will recognize the graduates when all the diplomas have been conferred. Seniors, please stand. What a good-looking bunch. It is my pleasure to present the 2026 graduating class of Martinsburg High School. Seniors, please be seated when the first name is called. Aiden Ignasio Rivera, Magna Cumlad.
