We innovate. We create. Personalized education for all. Our mission, every student, every day, every opportunity. Brings us to item D, presentations. Up first are our art student recognitions. And I'll invite up Miss Schulman. Good evening. Um, I'm Jennifer Schulman, one of the three art educators here at Ka Falls High School. I am honored to be with you this evening to highlight the accomplishments of our talented student artists
005who are recognized this year in multiple competitions. The main competition we will highlight this evening is the Scholastics Art Competition. This contest was founded in 1923. The awards have fostered the creativity and talent of millions of students including renowned alumni who have gone on to become leaders in their fields including Ken Burns, Sylvia Pla, and Andy Warhol and more. I cannot be more proud of our students artists representing our Black Tigers in this year's competition. This year has had the most awards with six silver keys and 17 honorable mentions. I prepared a slideshow to share their works with you. I could talk about each student's process and brilliance in the development of their work, but I'm sure we won't want to be here all night. So, I will try to keep my comments brief and
006their works let their work speak for itself. It's part of the agenda too, Mr. Almost there. Thank you. You can go to the first slide. So, our first artist is Junior Maya Chararma. Uh, she had planned to be here tonight, but her and her family had um they getting their furnace replaced. They had a lot of stuff was happening over the weekend with all the storms. So, um she couldn't be here, but she is always thinking deeply and thoughtfully about not just her artwork, but the process of creation. She's always experimenting and examining professional and artist techniques and the world around her. This piece is called um the history of gerrymandering. It's made out of uh glass and embroidery. Go to the next one. She got a silver key for that one. And this one
007is called media distortion. It's an experimental photograph. So that's actually a photograph she took of one of our students holding a piece of newspaper that was knitted or sewn together. >> Um and the image is projected over top the student. So, it's a really neat piece. Um, it was also um a Governor's Show finalist artwork. And she also got a special award. Even though she did not receive a gold key, her piece was selected by um jurors and awarded a scholarship for a summer art class. >> So, it was really cool. So, that was a really awesome thing for Maya. >> Um, and >> can she do anything she wants with that scholarship or is it a special program? It's for the Kaihoga Valley Art Center. So, it's just for a summer class there. >>
008Awesome. >> Which she was really excited because she takes classes there. So, she's like, "Oh." >> So, it turned out really great for her. Um I think there's one more. Um if you go to the next slide. Oh, there's actually two more. She also was awarded an honorable mention for this piece called Current News, which is also a photograph. Go to the next one. And then this is her piece called stolen culture and it is all embroidered. So all of those so I included a detail so you could see the threads that she has put in there. Um and so it has collage elements that are then wrapped in the embroidery as well. Um anything that is black and white is paper that she has sculpted and worked with. It is mounted on a wooden
009board and it's supposed to look like a like a a crate that is travels with um precious items in it. So she is she was a finalist um for the governor's show and with this work and it is also currently in the congressional art competition. So >> Schaefer and I were just saying this is why everyone should go to the AP art show because we already saw all three of these and she let us touch them. >> Yes. Fabulous. So, my speeches are powerful and thoughtful and a true reflection of who she is. Our next senior is Elelliana Raymond. I sent her a quick text. She is in the musical, so she was going to try to pop in. Um, but I sent her an email, so I'm not sure if she's gonna she was
010supposed to be watching it, but she has an incredible way of working, digging into her topic and combining techniques. Her thought process is fascinating. Most of her works are about nature, but she takes this common topic in entirely new directions. So, this piece is called In the Woods. This is an experimental photograph. So, this is a photograph of her that then she digitally um merged together. Um she received a silver key and um was a it was in the Governor Show regional competition. And the next one, um she also received a silver key for hills and valleys, which this one is where she has this love for origami. So she took her painting and she added origami to it um and made her piece really pop out. Okay, next one. Um she received an honorable
011mention and this was also a Governor's Show regional finalist piece for her for this one called crystallized reflections. In this piece she in the crystals you can see that she is reflecting actual objects and story in those reflections. You have to look kind of closely. And then she also has actual pieces of glass that have been glued onto this piece as well. Okay, go to the next one. Uh, so she took that photograph and she drew it. This is so this is her painting and drawing of the in the woods piece. Um, she received an honorable mention for that. Okay. And then it's our next student. Um so um Elelliana also submitted a portfolio and she received an honorable mention from Scholastics for her whole portfolio. So that was also very exciting. Okay, our next
012artist is Kujin Ray. She was awarded a silver key. She is very modest and has excellent sculpting skills. Uh, this detailed work on this little house titled Spooky turned out great and she received a silver key for this. I keep trying to convince her that her work is awesome. She keeps not thinking it is, but see it is. Um, our next um, artist is senior Alyssa Cook, who emailed me this morning telling me that she was horribly sick. She was not at school today and she was very disappointed she wasn't be able to make it. Um, but she loves to create 3D and has been creating art with an unusual perspective on the world, sharing alien plant life inhibiting our world with fun and whimsy. Her works are colorful, unique, and engaging. This piece is
013actually about as tall as this. It's very It's a very large piece. It's called the double dealing dalia. And on the other side there, the flower is kind of normal and natural looking, but if you go on the other side, it's it's going to attack you. So that's kind of how that works. I can go to the next one. Um, she also received a silver key for this uh stained glass. Well, it's not stained glass. It's glass mosaic piece called balancing eternity. You can see the involvement of the tentacles and the eyeballs. Very much her aesthetic. Um, you can also see this uh piece on one of the um utility wraps in our city. You might go by it be like, "Hey, I've seen that before." Um, so she received a silver key for that.
014Um, okay. So, I'm hoping that we will see Alyssa's funloving color, outlandish, and spunky ideas, which describe her to a tea, keep her making art, so she'll always have spunk in our world. Leah Collins, um, she spans both the 3D and 2D worlds. Her work is detailed, engaging, and this case, unsettling. Um, she has incredible ideas our world needs. Uh so she's created this one called Reconstruction and this is a self-portrait as she is uh stitching herself back together. Um this received an honorable mention. It was also a selected work for the Northeast Ohio OEEA um youth art exhibit exhibit which was um at White Rabbit Gallery. Uh so that was exciting to have it there. Okay, go next one. Um, she also created this piece called Weaving of Us, which received an honorable mention,
015and it's all yarn over top a sculpted piece that she created. Okay, the next one's by Greta Parsons. She created this experimental photograph by projecting an image on top of a student. And um, Greta is a senior with a wonderful skill base and an eye for the arts. We can't wait to see her continue with that. We um Moth who is a model there is wrapped in fabric uh and a white fabric and then there is light being shined behind her. So if you saw like how this was being made it'd be kind of wild but this is the result which is really fun. Okay, next one. Zoe. Nope, not Zoe. Evan. All right, so Evan Dio is masterful at the com combining materials to create an image. This work, good vibrations, has embroidery, tissue
016paper, found objects, and more unexpected materials. Evan can make a master work in a pile of anything disregarded, and this prize talent will serve them well. Um, so that is Evan's piece received an honorable mention. Next, we have Zoe um, so Zoe received this honorable mention for Lunar Valley. And um this piece has a dreamlike colorful image that just makes you smile. It was inspired by a song that just wants you to relax and be in your happy place. Okay, next one. Hannah um has a driving lesson right now that she could not miss, so she apologizes. Um so she created this clay sculpture called My Dream Farmhouse. Um the textures and combination of materials highlights this joy of living on a farm with her horses which is like her dream. Um and it turned
017out great. So she got an honorable mention for that piece. Okay, next one. Let's look at the work of Carmen Trent. She has talent for both the 3D and 2D. Karma's attention to every detail makes her work take longer. Yes, she would understand this because she never finishes on time, but it looks professional when completed. Uh, so we just need patience to see it come together. Um, go to the next one. Uh, this one is also hers called the wrath of the forgotten. And the tongue is all like shiny and >> it's great. All right, next one. And then here's her 2D skills coming out. So, if you know Carmen, that's exactly what she looks like. Um, and this is her piece called the eye of the universe, her self-portrait. She also got an arm
018mention for that. Okay, here we go. Damian Scott. Yay, Damian's here. This is Damen Scott's work. This work is a series of photographs taken of a sculpture he set that he created. So, this whole room does not really exist. Well, exists in miniature form. It's not life-size. So, as you look carefully at it, his lighting is very dark. So, it gives you like that um need to look closer. But each one of those tiles on the floors are they're actually glass tiles on the floor and there's a figure in the middle and his title is for solitude. So that kind of brings you the concept that he's going for and um with his emotional message. It's a very unique and wonderful work and um you see much more every time you look at it. So
019congratulations Damian. Come on down. We got something for you. I have something else. A fabulous pin. Get all the swag. All right, our next piece is by Amelia Riley. This super funfelt creation called Cotton Candy Land was recognized in two art competitions. I will never forget the day she brought it back to school after completing the tedious work at home. All those pieces of felt um tiny little pieces. It's fun colors and seabed made the pipe with the pipe cleaners just leaves you in awe. Thank you for this injection of joy, Amelia. It is so much fun. Um, so he's not here, but you're new. Um, the next piece is by freshman Jake Jake Wagner. He created the loot deer, and it was also recognized in two art competitions. Um, so he has it at
020the Scholastic Show and at the Northeast Ohio um, show, which Amelia was also there. Um, seeing this in person, you'd be impressed with the deer's size and realistically sculpted shape. So, it's actually kind of like this big. So, it's it's it's a big guy. Um, and if you pay close attention, he pays very close attention to every detail and really created something grand. And I'm excited to see what else he will create in years to come because he's only in ninth grade. Yay. All right, the next one. This brings us to senior Kai Gray. Come on up here, Kai. Come on. So, Kai created an artwork for a separate contest called Children in Their Best Interest. It was put on by the Summit County Domestic um Relations Court. She was recognized by a purchase prize.
021This means that she was paid for her artwork. She got a $100 for her work um which will now remain in as the property of the court and then it's going to be on display in the court for anyone that um comes in to to help them connect with this idea of um children in their best interest. So kind of a nice little legacy piece we have there. So congratulations Could we go back to Ray's piece? house. The spooky house. I'm very glad that Kuan came. So, Ken, come on up. You missed when we were talking all about you, but Cooji made this beautiful spooky house. And I'm excited to give you um your certificate and your actual silver key that you won. And we have a special certificate for you here. And another Congratulations.
022>> Okay, thank you. Um, now you can go down to the the advertisement. So, coming up this month is the All City Art Walk, and I just wanted to take this opportunity to share a little bit about um what that's going to be like. And I I promise I won't talk too long about it. Um but as you may have heard, the world's largest rubber duck is coming to downtown Kaiga Falls. and our students were um you know important in making that happen. And to to make this big duck.com we combined forces with the entrepreneurial group from the sixth compact district. And so uh they run the Ohio rubber duck dash and so our ideas sort of merged together this year. Um, they helped us with the monetary part, raising the funds to get the
023Big Duck to come. And Big Mama will be here. She's actually called Mama Duck. Um, she'll be here on April 23rd. So, the opening night of the art walk is, um, her debut. And then she will be there until the 25th. Um, which is the until 3:00 on the 25th. That's when she's going to be deflated. Okay. Um, so see her before then. And uh that day is when the rubber the um duck dash will happen which they're going to have at the river on the riverfront plaza in the amphitheater. They built a little racetrack for the ducks. Um so if you go ahead and to the next one there's a little uh detail as to where Mamba Duck is going to be so we could imagine her. Um she's going to be on the
024grassy space next to the sherin. We wanted her I I wanted her on the plaza but she's too big. She is six stories tall and a hundred square feet of land had to be provided for her. And so the city we this this was in process for about two years working with the city trying to find a place trying to get this to happen. And um it was so funny. They were searching everywhere, but this this was the spot that it ended up being. Um so that's where she will be. And go ahead and go the next one. So, our kids have been making art all year, kindergarten through 12th grade, about our theme, which is art quacks me up. So, we're trying to have a little bit of fun and sense of humor this
025year. Um, we made a thousand window clings. I just picked them up this evening and I'm organizing them to be hung tomorrow night. Um, so that we teams of students are going to go out and we're going to sticker the town. And so, those clings will be up from tomorrow, the 10th, all the way until the 25th. Um, so check that out. Go ahead. We have uh 58 businesses participating. Um, we do work with two businesses downtown to make a product. So, we have a candle that's going to be sold at Hope Soap and a a um middle school student designed the Art Quacks label for the Grandpa Joe's soda, which will be sold this year. Okay, go to the next one. Um, there's a lot happening. Um we're very excited to have um a
026visiting artist called Ibrahim Pstanchi and Ibraim has created I don't know how we found this but he has made art about rubber ducks and so he is a he is a inventor and an architect and a graphic designer. He's just amazing. The kids are going to love meeting him. But if you stand in front of his artwork, your image is projected into a digital screen. And if you dial the dial, you'll become more like a rubber duck and less like a rubber duck. So it's like really neat. You get to see yourself turn into rubber. Um the Akran Children's Museum will be there. Um cosmetology will be doing hair paint and um and uh I'm sorry, face paint and hair. Um they might be doing hair paint. Uh we're going to have some games. Uh
027there's a huge duck display. So, if you've gone by our um art gallery here in our new 6 through 12 campus, um you may have seen some of our rubber ducks. Those have been made by students K through 12. Um every school has had five ducks thanks to the alumni association and their fabulous grant that bought us 45 ducks to design. And so, we're making a big ducks display downtown. Um there'll be make and takes, student musicians everywhere. There's going to be music everywhere you go. Um there's a duck sona machine, a duck pond with prizes. It's going to be a lot of fun. Go ahead. The next one. I think I Yeah. So, this this is kind of a little schedule of all the things happening. On the 22nd, we do have a soft
028opening. So, if you don't want to be there around all those crowds, you can come the 22nd. The 23rd is our big day. That's the game day. Everything happens on the 23rd for the art walk. The 24th is a day um that Friday they'll have vendors and food trucks um as part of the Ohio Rubber Duck Dash Festival weekend. And then on Saturday will be the duck race which takes place at 1:30 and deflation is at 3. Please note that if the weather is bad, they have to take the duck down. So I know so please um we we need all the help we can get. Uh, we want to have good weathers, but they if if the weather's bad, like too windy, they'll deflate her. But as soon as it's nice again, they'll inflate
029her again. So, they'll keep an eye on her. She will be inflated if all goes well 24 hours a day. They're going to light her up at night. >> Very excited about this. And And so, you know, if you don't make it during the day, drive by at night, you get to see her. So, um, I think that's Is there one more after that? Oh. Oh, these are just some of our fun ducks. um some of the awesome ducks that you'll get to see in our showcase or or at the event. Um and I think >> I know they're >> they're hilarious. >> I agree. >> So hopefully our event will bring you much many smiles and joy. So >> that's it. >> Thank you very much. >> Thank you. Just want to thank Miss
030Schulman and the art department. Um, we've said it before, but I think what we do in our visual art department is probably the best in the state. I think when you come to an art show, which I will continue to encourage everyone to come to any of our art shows at any of our schools, they're incredible. Um, I try to go to as many as I can every year. Um, but you'll just be astounded by what you see. You won't believe what our students are able to create at any level. Like from elementary all the way up, what our students create in art class, which is not as much time as we all wish it were, what we have, you know, state standards we have to teach as well. But it's really outstanding. And the
031things that you see, especially our high school artists create, you won't believe that it's high school students creating it. you'll think that you're walking into a real art gallery. These are things that could be commercially produced and that could be sold for real money. It's really impressive stuff and I would put our visual art program up against any visual art program in the state of Ohio, if not greater. Um, it's really outstanding work and so we say that, but you're here to hear it. So, we want to offer that to you. It's something we truly believe with all of our heart. So, thank you and thank you to all of our our educators in the district for what you do because we get to see what you're able to help bring out of our students.
032So, thank you again. >> Thank you. >> Okay. We want to get a picture with you all so that you can leave if you'd like. The students that came, we're going to go on with our meeting after that. You're free to stay, but then you're also free to leave. So that's usually the important part. >> Awesome. Okay. >> Um, for our next presentation, turn it over to Mrs. House. >> So, I would like to congratulate um, Mr. Gomez for earning the OSBA star award. So this is in recognition of excellence in service, training, aptitude and recognition. Those are each individual um trainings and then he also completed 200 plus hours of professional development including board leadership institute and capital conference. He had to take a state exam which was in law and governance and had
033to earn at least 80% and I'm sure knowing Mr. Gomez it was 100%. >> Yes. >> Was it >> and um I've known board members that have been board members for decades and so this is quite an accomplishment um to learn and grow in his leadership. So we just have a small certificate. So congratulations. Thank you. >> That brings us to item E, treasure CFO's business consent agenda. Mr. McCoy, >> thank you. Like to recommend the board of education approve all items listed in the treasures consent agenda. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Discussion. >> I do not have much. I just have the minutes from last meeting and then donations. We have a number of them. Um, one in the audience today. Um, Miss Leslie Frank and then some other ones just from, you
034know, Ben Curtis Family Foundation, the YMCA. Um, and some items for the Black Tiger Family Center. So, very appreciative of all of those >> questions or comments from the board. >> Um, can I make a comment about those birthday kits? I was at the community, the Black Tiger, excuse me, family center and I got to look through that birthday kit and they actually had like a birthday hat and plates and like things to set up like a little birthday party and they included a cake mix and then a can of soda to make the cake with. If you make a cake mix with a can of soda, you don't need any more ingredients for it. So, it's very thoughtful. the way the way the birthday kit was put. It was a lot of thought and
035care put into this kit. >> I didn't even know that. >> Just here you go and it's ready to go. You don't need anything else to make this. It's ready to go. I And I thought that was very cons kind of considerate, >> you know, well thought out. I was I'm impressed. So, I just wanted to add that. >> Any other questions or comments? >> Please call the role. >> Mr. Harris. >> Hi. Mrs. Schaefer. >> Hi. >> Miss White. >> I. >> Mrs. Zimmerman. >> I. >> Mr. Gomez. >> I. >> Thank you. Item F. Treasure CSO's business. Your comments. >> Um, I do not have a lot. Um, just as a reminder, maybe. And I don't even know I've told you specifically this year, but next year is the OASBO conference. So, I'll
036be out Tuesday through Friday um down there. Um, it's a great conference. Um, I'm sure it's going to be a lot of doom and gloom, but just given the landscape lately. Um, but it is very informative. Um, it's a good time um to get together with colleagues across the area and and talk about these things and the different advocacy that we can do and and that they're doing. And you know, many other districts are in the same position or will be, you know, that we are right now. So, um I expect a lot of uh joint efforts while we're down there, but I look forward to that every year. It's always a a good time, a good time to be able to talk to some of our vendors, um and things like that. So, um
037and then so if you I'll be able to be reached, but um and Joanne will be with me, but uh Lisa will be there if you guys need anything. She's also been taking on some of Mr. Jones's duties in his absence. So, just a quick shout out to her. I appreciate um that she's kind of some of it learning on the on the fly, but um she's doing a great job and she never complains. So, um we'll we'll go from there until he till he returns. >> That's all I have. >> Thank you. Item G, superintendent CEO's business consent agenda. Mrs. It is recommended that the board of education approves all items listed in the superintendent's business consent agenda. >> So moved. >> So uh in personnel, we have certified staff that is going to
038service our extended school year as well as our preschool summer assessments. also with classified staff. We have finally um meeting our 100% capacity, our 612 uh cleaning team and maintenance support of the new building. So, that's really exciting. We're also hiring summer workers and we have an event worker position. This one's a biggie. Marjorie Johnson is retiring in December and so we appreciate um ample notice so we can work on a succession planning. So, um, we appreciate that. And, um, Mr. Suzinski is, um, going to be a substitute bus driver. And so, that helps our new OVI trainer because he'll be able to train, um, him from beginning to end. So, it's a double benefit for us. And then for service agreement, Akran Children's Hospital, um the contract, we have a savings of approximately $125,000
039compared to last year. Um that is because we're starting to transfer some of the minor tasks to uh medical support to other personnel. Our Asia contract is growing in serving more children at Silver Lake now and Price Elementary. um they were at Chneay this year and last year. The um summit education initi initiative agreement is just to be an external evaluator for the Akran area YMCA and parents are signing off that they realize the data is being shared with um the parents. Frog Street is a continuation of our PD from this year. We have a new teacher. We'll have some new folks and so we want to keep that training going. We opted for a virtual PD so it was uh less expensive. Uh admentum is something that we use for credit recovery home instruction
040uh and of course assessment practice. And so unfortunately that did go up in price about $6,000. Um they are growing as a company and their services. And so you they're starting to offer just a slate of products and so um they are continuing to grow. And then of course Neonet is a fiber maintenance agreement. It's -ate eligible at 80% reimbursement. So um that is a significantly reduces our costs and it also help cover emergency repairs. Thank you. questions or comments from the board? >> Um, I have a question about Asia. Um, is why is it only in two schools? Is that where most of our students are that need these? >> So, it's the capacity of their staffing. >> Okay. >> Because it's it's free to us. It's something they brought to the district that
041they wanted to partner with us on, but they only have so much staffing for the funding that they have, but it's not tied necessarily. It's hosted at those buildings, but we are able to bring students from other buildings to that. >> Okay. So, those are it's like the host site, guys. based on based on where we do have the most of those students. But if we have students from other buildings that sign up for it, we can transport them to it, which we've done. >> Okay. >> When we had it at Chneay, I think we had people from two buildings attending. >> Yep. >> Yeah. >> They would love to have it at more buildings. They just don't have the staffing. >> Yeah. I didn't notice that they provide that, you know, great charge, which
042is a great >> community partnership kind of thing. We want to >> to to encourage. >> Just wanted to mention on the prek assessments were actually because of some a creative way that Miss Zean came up with, we're saving approximately $10,000 over last year as well. So on top of other savings that have been uh mentioned. So just many different ways that we're looking to save money while trying to provide the same level of service to our students and families. Any other questions or comments? Please call the role. >> Mrs. Schaefer. >> Hi. >> Miss White. >> Hi. >> Mrs. Zimmerman. >> Hi. >> Mr. Gomez. >> I. >> Mr. Harris. >> Hi. >> Okay. Brings us to item eight. Your comments. >> Yes. Thank you so much. Uh really exciting news. Uh Richardson Elementary
043School and um Kaihoga Falls High School received the Ohio Momentum Award. So how you earn this is that you have to earn at least three points increase on your perform performance index. Richardson uh grew by 4.9 points and the high school grew by 8.8 points. So really exciting. and they also had to meet a four-star progress rating. So, um we're really happy for them. It it's showing um their growth and hard work. Um we also and I know this will be uh we'll be inviting folks to share in this at the next board meeting is the governor science of reading champions. Um that will be was received by Dwit Elementary and Richardson. again. Um there's only 109 awardes this year uh out of about 2400 public schools. So it's pretty exciting. Uh this recognition is
044about the evidence-based instruction and the shift to science of reading. So um we're happy for them. We also um are starting a new partnership uh looking into the children's hunger alliance um because of reduced SNAP benefits that we're trying to build another partnership for more boxed meals available on Fridays at the family center and so uh Miss Merkel is working to develop a new partnership there and that's pretty exciting. Uh OST testing begins April 10th and so it kind of will go through uh the end of April and we've heard about the wizard vibes. We can just step out in the hallway and see what's going on. Uh that's this weekend. Uh spring sports have started. Track uh the track is open to the public and um the cabinet is reviewing a rental fee structure.
045So that will be something I'm sure Dr. Celico will be sharing with you in the near future. um tennis courts. The city council approved summer renovations um and the district will be sending a formal note of gratitude for that support and of course I'm sure you saw what's happening next door with Bolic Middle School and that is to be completed um by the end of the month. So there's a lot going on there. And lastly, Soup's troops are going to be visiting Lincoln Elementary for a K1 reading and activities and hosting new school visits for families. So, >> thank you. >> Okay, brings us to item I, board business. Number one is a policy recision. recommend the PO board of education resents the following policy. Section J students JCBB interment. >> Any discussion? Please call
046the RO. >> Miss White, >> I. >> Mrs. Zimmerman, >> I. >> Mr. Gomez, >> I. >> Mr. Harris, >> hi. >> Mrs. Schaefer, >> I. >> Number two, policies for second read and adoption. It's recommended the board of education holds a second reading and adopts the following policies. Section G person P personnel GCD-R certified staff hiring rehire of retired administrators. Section J student JCBB interd district openment. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Any discussion? just would like to iterate reiterate that um we take no joy in this. Um but we find it ne well I I think we can say as a board that we feel it's necessary for our financial situation. >> Any further comments or discussion? Please call the role. >> Mrs. Zimmerman, >> I >> Mr. Gomez, >> hi. >> Mr.
047Harris, >> hi. >> Mrs. Schaefer, >> hi. >> Miss White, >> I three is a discussion item, expulsion appeal hearing officer. Um, Dr. Celico provided information about this. So, our policy says that um we are the expulsion appeal hearing board or our designate, but we do not have a designate. So it' be up to us to decide if we are going to hear them. But if we want to designate someone, we have to make that determination that we have to vote to designate someone because the policy just says or designate, but we don't have to designate. Um so previously the board held heard suspension and expulsion appeals. Um we changed that when Dr. Selco came in. She we had discussions when Miss White and I were the policy committee and she gave her reasoning and
048we thought it was reasonable that suspension appeals could be heard by someone other than the board. Um because suspensions are done by the principal. So for the appeals to be heard not by the board made sense because there's other people that principles don't report to within the district. Our rationale for changing not having someone within the district hearing the expulsion appeal was because everyone other than us reports to the superintendent. So, >> we would either need to decide we're going to hear it, keep hearing them, or appoint an officer, which we can do. The policy allows for it. >> Well, I think Dr. Celico had presented a couple good options for a designate people who would be qualified uh and experienced in in this in discipline um and maybe uh kind of a neutral well
049not to say we wouldn't be neutral but um a third party outside of the district too to hear these uh appeals. I'm I I would lean towards that. I have never been a part of a expulsion hearing either as a parent or an educator or board member. So, I don't really know what they would entail. So, I don't know if either of my board colleagues have been part of of an expulsion hearing. Do you have any input as a board member that would >> that could help? >> It's it's very tough. >> I imagine sit through that. So, I am with Miss Zimmerman that I would like to appoint somebody that has more I I'm too soft so I don't like >> it is I would imagine it is not my forte. >> It's it's
050hard you know to make that call because you know your heart goes out to the kids but at the same time it depends on what what they're there for. So you know and I would like a third party as well I think would be my preference. I was curious to hear how you know the experience. >> Do you think as a parent perspective they or do you think that that is something if I'm a parent coming in and I have a >> my student and I'm and I want you know a second and they're getting someone that's not not involved in the school. It's an important party. That's >> probably a good >> option then. >> And you've worked with other districts. Other districts do that as well. >> Yes. Yes. Um our local ESC
051provides that service at uh no cost to the district, >> which is also a bonus. I don't want to spend money on something that I don't have to. And then there if you wanted to look at a a second educational service center, um Northeast Ohio does that as well, but there is a fee with that. So um so it is common that they offer that as a service to to their member districts. When a board hears an expulsion appeal, then do do we is there a vote on whether to Okay. Okay. So from one perspective, you would have more different people hearing and almost like a jury. >> Yeah. which could be preferable to a to someone instead of having just one person deciding or the designate and and and the superintendent just, you know,
052examining thoroughly this this issue or what what the thoughts or implications could be. Um, but I I just personally think that makes it more complicated. You know, you're trying to con convince three out of five board members to let you stay and just very u like Miss White said, you don't like to be in a position of um having to pass judgment on our students. Somebody want to make a motion. >> Oh, can we make a motion now? >> I don't know what >> we need to >> a motion to approve the >> I would like to move that we appoint a designate for expulsion appeal appeal hearings. >> Name the design. >> Yeah. Um you want the summit? >> Yeah. >> The one that was Yeah. Jeff. Mr. Jeff Ferguson. Yeah. >> Okay. >>
053Jeff Ferguson. >> Ferguson. Yeah. That's >> ask the board. >> Is that for >> it just is it just for the remainder of the year >> until he says no. >> I mean if you don't put a timeline on it that's how it would work. Yep. So, if that's what you want to do, is that what you want to do? >> Someone's got to say all the words. Say all the words that we appoint Jeff Ferguson of the >> Summit ESC as the expulsion appeal hearing officer designate. >> And I'll second. >> Make sure Christie has the time. She needs to get that all in. >> She can. You good, Christine? >> I'm good. >> Okay. >> There's no discussion on the motion. >> No cost. Right. >> As long as Okay. She said second.
054>> What? >> I'm just confirming that is at no cost. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Any further discussion on the motion? >> Please call the role. >> Mr. Gomez. >> I. >> Mr. Harris. >> Hi. >> Mrs. Schaefer. >> Hi. >> Miss White. >> Hi. >> Mrs. Zimmerman. I >> Okay, thank you. Number four is the outofstate field trip for the Ka Falls High School marching band. It's recommended the board of education approves the out ofstate field trip to allow the Ka Falls High School marching band to travel to Florida. >> So moved. >> Second. So they um it's so nice that they're working so far ahead because they'll be doing a lot of fundraising efforts um for um some of these students to go and so um we're excited for them, you know, that
055they continue to have these opportunities. So um so they're going to work really hard to support all their members. >> We got the the proposal and then on the news I saw that that that school district got up there. Ashland had their instruments stolen. >> Oh my word. >> Just the small ones, not the big instruments. Just like >> No one took the tub. >> Oh my goodness. >> I saw that yesterday right before they were >> the tulas. >> I didn't see a cost. >> There is no cost. There's no cost in here yet. >> No, they're working on that. >> Okay. Okay. Yeah, it won't cost us. >> We'll update it. I'm just curious to know my experience >> just to see what it costs each child attend class changes. >> Right. Right.
056>> They don't have a total number of people in the band because they haven't had >> auditions for next year. Try out triyouts. >> But you said they do fundraising to try to make sure that every >> They'll probably do several things throughout the year. >> Be able to go. I remember doing this for Remember my daughter 297? >> Mhm. >> Yes. >> Selling cheesecakes. >> Yes. Tiny expensive cheesecake. >> Mattress sale. Right. >> The mattress sales coming up. I think it's April 19th. >> Yeah. >> That's a big one. >> I opted in last year when I bought my mattress and then they keep sending me text reminders. But I don't know how effective that is because I don't know how many people buy a mattress two years. >> Right. >> There's weekly bought
057a mattress last year, too. So, that's why I was looking at her. So, I'm like, I don't know if she's getting this text again. >> I'm in the market for a mattress. >> You can say what a great fundraiser it was. >> It's a great mattress. I'll vouch for the mattress. >> It's surprising what you make on selling mattresses. So, yeah. >> And I believe you can order a mattress from out of state. >> Oh, really? Yeah. Because the line are shipped right to your home now, you know. >> They are. It's a great mattress. Any other questions or comments about the marching band? >> Okay, please call the RO. >> Mr. Harris, >> hi. >> Mrs. Schaefer. >> Hi. >> Miss White. >> Hi. >> Mrs. Zimmerman. >> Hi. >> Mr. Gomez. >> Hi.
058>> Number five. As future agenda items, are there any additional future agenda items at this? >> Um, yes. I have a couple. Um, I'd like to have a an end of the year report on the strategic plan to see, you know, if we met our goals or not and what we're doing next year, the the objectives for next year. >> And um I don't know if gifted would be I know like wellness is one of them >> and that would probably be included, but gifted is kind of separate. So I was thinking maybe a report on gifted by the end of the year just to give us an update on what's happening. Is gifted part of your strategic plan area? >> We were thinking May 13th we could do uh gifted recognition was slated for
059students and maybe we can have Miss Belco do an update at that time. >> Yeah, but that works. >> Is that okay for me if that's okay? >> And then I think Dr. Celico was thinking maybe in June to do a strategic plan update. >> I was at one of the meetings. >> Okay. And then April 2nd, we were um doing our annual early literacy update. Okay, good. >> Okay. So, um anything else that we haven't covered? >> Yes. I wanted to also put the um reading of the Constitution and Declaration of Independence and Bill of Rights for June 30th, which is right before the 4th >> because our July meeting would be after the 4th. So, if we could um have the board reading those things that day if that's okay >> with everyone.
060>> I know I keep forgetting to sense it really. >> That's what I was thinking >> if we could on the third. >> Yes. Okay. >> Yep. >> That's all. Will we have a debrief on the um security incident and recommendations for for steps we need to take or at some point? >> We would do that in executive session. >> Executive session. Okay. >> If you wanted >> we could talk about that. >> I think we do. You know, need to >> debrief. >> I'll let Dr. Celico know. Okay. Anything else? >> Are we doing the recognition? >> Yeah. >> I think that's the next meeting. >> Anything else? Number six, committee reports. I do not have any tonight. Mr. Schaefer, >> I had the meet I'm have it on my email. Excuse me. I'm
061sorry. We had the meeting with the Black Tiger Family Center and we did while we were at the meeting, we had the deliver delivery from the Children's Hunger Alliance. >> Oh, did you? >> I didn't talked about that. >> Oh, good. >> And uh we had talked about doing a drive a drive-thru delivery on a Friday. So, they drive through. They'd sign up, they do a drive-thru >> delivery. Um, and this year they had $28,490 in donations the school year. >> We talked about the YMCA birthday kits. >> Is that monetary donations or like value of items and money? >> I believe that is items and money. >> Okay. >> Thank you. Um, and one thing that I thought was neat, they had an Elks grant and with that they purchased 90 haircuts and so
062they're using those for back to school haircuts. >> I'm sorry. 91 >> Haircuts. Oh, cool. >> Yes. Which is something that I've been kind of passionate about for like a while. And it is very difficult to get a haircut like a haircut drive >> going in a school district or whatever. When I I worked in a hair salon, it was very difficult to rally people to do haircuts for back to school and get hair stylists to do. I mean, it it's just it's very difficult to get to set up. So, they did something very unique and they went during like one of one of the >> the promotions if you like bought a hair or bought two haircuts, then you got one free and I can't remember the exact deal. So, um she bought gift
063certificates with the so they made the best use of their money and I thought it was just genius how she did it. So, >> fantastic. They have a lot of people people on the committee were just they're just so passionate about this cause and they're just really thinking they're planning and I was just so inspired. Thank you for nominating me to go to that meeting. I was so inspired when I went there. It was very motivating for me. Um there was something else. They were talking about the the back to school donation drive planning to happen over the summer and the drop off locations tentatively will be the YMCA, the library, probably the Elks. Um, and then they were looking at a location in Silver Lake. >> Silver Lake and Youngs >> and Youngs. Thank
064you. And Oh, okay. And then I wanted to just mention that they distributed 99 coats, uh, 123 gloves, and 93 hats over the winter months. And then I I guess this next year they're looking to for boots, boot donations, distributing boots. So, and then they they had some people mention about how great the Amazon wish list worked out. So, looking forward to an Amazon wish list to get out for Amazon project. >> And they have a connection with coats for kids that they just make. >> They make brand new coats just to be donated for free. >> And they like put their own like little tag in there. It's like cos so it looks like a like no one would know. >> So it looks like a brand new coat and it has like the
065tag like you would see. So it like has all the appearances. So it doesn't look like, oh, somebody just made this coat. Like it has all the accutrants of like any brand coat would have. >> And that's what they they were I didn't see the coats, but that's what they said. There was many designs of the coats. So it wasn't like, oh, look, there's a donated free coat, >> right? So there was different styles. They got to pick the different style coat that they wanted. They had like a more feminine looking coat and a more masculine looking coat like different colors. Yeah, it's really cool what that organization does. >> Yeah. And then they they kind of were me talking about something that they do in Akran and it is a wash day and it
066and like they have different people that spons or businesses that sponsor this wash day and how it would be really neat if we could do that here in Falls somehow. >> The city of Akran's involved in that and the person who works for the city of Akran that organizes it is actually on the Akran school board >> and I know her. So if we need to make that connection, let me know. I can call the the mobile laundry. >> No, it's not mobile. They do it at different wash places at laundry and it's part of summer hall's job >> for the city when she's on the school board. >> Like a mobile laundry. >> Let me know. I'd be happy to call Summer if that's helpful, but I if somebody's already doing that, I don't
067want to duplicate efforts. >> Yeah, >> I'll find out. >> Yeah. >> Yes. >> If that's helpful, I'd be happy. but they had a lot of great ideas and I was very inspired to attend. >> That's all I have. >> Thank you, Mrs. Schaefer. >> I'm glad we made that connection to have more board involvement with that because I know it's something we are all passionate about. Um Mrs. Ms. White. >> Yeah, the um core team met yesterday. We're getting very close as you can tell. The building Bolic is almost totally down. I there's just a little bit left there. Um so they will be working um till maybe the end of this month to get it all down and then they will come in and and do the um rest of it. In fact,
068they'll be done by August. I think they said totally with everything. But it was interesting. There's a few things that they have to wrap up. Couple um items on the punch list, especially the furniture, but they're getting closer. Um, the additional lockers are complete. The bookshelves are now complete. They put in the teacher wardrobes and the music rooms. Um, so pretty much getting there. Oaks will close on the 4th of July after the 4th of July, which is our partner on this. Um, the stadium patio light pole. Remember it was so big you couldn't see. that is being re being received and will be installed soon. Um the stadium pole vault standards, those will get done um sometime. I'm not sure. They didn't give me a a date on that, but they will be cutting
069into the existing track to make sure that they're solidly installed for um the pole vault. Um abatement the is complete. the demolition. Um they don't have much left to do and I did hear that 13th Street will get paved sometime this summer, we think after August. And so um yeah, it's just um small things. We are almost complete with the whole project. So it's really been interesting to see how they um far they've come and just couple more months it'll be done. Seems like it took forever, but here we are. >> Did they talk about when they can start um putting down the parking lot? >> Yes, that'll be this summer as soon as they get everything done. They have to go into the foundation and remove some of the um I think it's wiring
070and and Okay. pipes or whatever kind of things and get that and then they'll start Yeah. working for the pavement. But by the first football game, do they? >> Oh yeah, I believe it will be done by August. I think >> August 14th is >> 14th is the date. Okay. >> Yeah. So yeah, >> yes. So if we get good enough cooperative weather >> as any summer project in Ohio. >> I know. This is true. But yes, the 14th is the finished date. So yeah, be all done. be helpful for the first football game. >> Yeah, definitely. Definitely. >> That's kind of when parking loads >> begin and then obviously with school and then everything. So, it would just be helpful >> cuz that's usually >> meet the Tigers and then the first football game,
071all of that. And it would kind of give >> families in the community a chance to acclimate to whatever new traffic pattern we're going to have >> if it's if everything's done by that time. Thank you, Miss White. Mr. Harris, >> uh yeah, just uh business alliance council will be meeting next Tuesday. Uh and then I have an update. I was able to attend and I'm very grateful to have the opportunity to attend the uh state legislative conference uh on the 24th. Um it was a packed house. Um I was I sat with some of our friends from uh uh school board in Akran and Black River as well. Um started with a few updates. We got some updates on some legislation I've been keeping you guys posted on. Um and then we did get
072an update from director Dakin of OD uh OD. Um he was really just a plugin. You know, they need some literary coaches with this expansion of you know, science reading. So he's really anyone looking to be a literary coach uh reach out to their office. And then we got an update from Governor Dwine. it was really great uh for him to stop by, you know, and he spent a lot of time just reflecting his legacy um as it relates to uh the science of reading and just literacy in general. Um some of the highlights of that um you know again he talked about the science of reading and everything you know he's done as it relates to getting coaches and expanding that across the state but also with the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. Um he
073shared that 70% of households with a child under the age of five are getting one book a month >> in the mail. That is incredible. Um and he said that study is showing that it's changing relationships between parents and their children. They're sitting down and they're reading. Uh so um he he was very very proud uh to have started that and uh to be expanding that across the state. Uh he also mentioned a pilot project uh uh program he's hoping to expand. Um it'll be past his time he said but it's in 15 counties right now and it's called Ohio C um in the shape I shared this with you the other day. Um so what they they have bands come to schools um and give eye exams to kids. They do about six to
074eight exams uh an hour uh and then about two or three kids get to pick out their frames or whatever colorful frames. they have a bunch of cool stuff and then kids will get fitted for that about two, three weeks later. And so this came from a study that showed that a lot of kids just can't see. Um it's not so much the reading issue. Uh you know, it's that they are having trouble seeing. So he thinks that this will help and they are seeing that that it's making some improvement. Again, in 15 counties, not here in Summit County. >> Is that like a refer, you know, the kids get referred? >> Um you know, I'm not exactly sure uh on that, but um I would I would imagine I don't know. they choose specific
075demographics within schools. But, um, and then we had a panel, we heard from, uh, Senator Brener, um, Representative Brennan, and then, uh, Representative Fowler Arthur. Um, they wouldn't, you know, back and forth, but a lot of the stuff I didn't agree with. Um, you know, we wouldn't agree with some of the stuff they were doing. Uh, Representative Brennan, um, was more of the, uh, in line with some of the stuff a lot of the folks in that. You would think you were sitting with advocate, you know, a lot of activists in there. These were school board members, these were treasures, these were superintendent um who were clearly disappointed with a lot of stuff that is coming out of the state house and we showed it. So, um and then I I had lunch I finished
076with lunch with Representative Sims. She sat down at the table from Akran, Veronica Sims. She's a good friend. Uh and uh you know, we we went back and forth there. So, it was a really fun uh event. Um I I always I always learned so much. Again, it was just great to have the governor coming by, you know, giving some time. A couple things I wanted to highlight real quick. Uh, Senator Brennan mentioned Senate Bill 328. Um, this regards the education, workforce, and investment initiative. What they're looking to do is change current graduation plan to include grade 8 and establish a framework that asks students to start thinking beyond high school graduation. Um, you know, right now we're looking at graduation. They want people they want these kids to start thinking about that earlier. Um,
077and then Senate Bill 311, that's the school closure bill. They're looking about a may a may vote for that. Um, see, Senate Bill 19, that's the math intervention bill. I believe they just put a substitute bill on that. Um, OSBA has concerns about students missing content with that acceleration. Um, so they are a little concerned uh about Senate Bill 19. Uh, and then, um, to close here with that, uh, Miss Schaer and I met the other day, uh, and got a coffee to talk about how we can, you know, just get the public more involved in this, uh, uh, get folks at home, uh, reaching out to your state legislators because they want to hear from you. They don't want to hear from you, but we want them, we want you reaching out to them,
078uh, to let them know, you know, uh, uh, that you are paying attention to what they're doing. Um, and so what we're going to start doing, um, they're not here now. Uh, Mr. Jones is out, Dr. sell it goes out. But we were going to have a list of our state legislators uh right here with their contact information, email, phone number, um everything you'll need to get in touch with them, write them letters uh and call their offices and we encourage you to do that and we'll keep um sharing ways uh we're we're hoping to get the public involved um down the road as well. So, but that's pretty much it. Again, thankful for the opportunity to have gone to Columbus. >> Thank you, Mr. Harris. Mr. Gentlemen, >> no reports. >> Okay, >> brings
079us to comments number seven. And Mr. Harris, you're up first. >> Oh, yeah. Uh, just congratulations to our um our art students are recogn recognized tonight. Um, and then I was able to attend the uh uh vendor fair and congratulations Mr. Gomez as well. I'm sorry. I don't want to forget that. Um, I did attend the vendor fair and just it was amazing. I mean, so many I brought my son. Uh, and so, but we stopped at everything and we left with bags of stuff. So, it was just amazing. Um, it's always it's always great. I know this is the first time in the new building. Uh, I talked to Susan. She's like, I said, "So, how's it going?" She's like, "Tables. We have so many odd shaped tables in this building." They had some
080trouble uh finding some tables, but they did get everything uh set up. Uh, so that was great. Again, state legislative conference. Um I am going to be attending the state of the city uh address Ka Falls uh next week. Uh and I we also have I believe it's the 14th the care awards dinner or was that the 16th as well? I can't remember. I know we have that next week too. So >> Thursday the 16th. Okay. That's that same day. So looking forward to all that. >> Mrs. Schaefer, you're next. >> I also went to the vendor event and I know that Mrs. was very concerned about the table. We talked about the tables, but I have to say that I really like the way it was set up, too. Um, it looked >> it
081was just as busy as the other events, but it felt busier. And I know that I've set up at a couple of those events as well. And when it doesn't feel as busy, it feels as a vendor, you feel like, wow, it's I'm not doing as well as I could be doing. But when it's when things are a little closer, you feel busy. You are busy. You feel busy. And then people, it's a fossil. It's exciting. Um, I did buy a couple fidgets for myself. They had like the little keyboard once. Click, click, click. Like an old time keyboard. >> Um, very exciting. My husband is very excited that I own that now. Click, click, click. >> That was at the table of our former treasurer, Katherine Signs. >> She was she was a vendor.
082>> Oh, really? >> That's right. >> See, there's a new gig for you. >> Getting any ideas, Christie? And then >> she's retired. >> I watched Mr. Gomez receive his award. I did I guess I did not realize that you were going to get an award. And I have to say that it is a lot of work to meet those requirements to get an award. So he >> plays it off like no big but it is a lot of work. He puts a lot of time in in his classes and attending the the training and then also the community service and the committees that he's involved in the back and forth to Columbus the the web calls and all those things he devotes of time to this calling of boards boardmanship and um I know
083that we all on this or defer a lot to him because he's been doing this for a while and he takes a lot of classes and he does have a great memory. So, we we appreciate what you do, but I know that a lot of other districts um appreciate what you do as well because you take take this very seriously and I think that >> we we all respect that. So, thank you for that. But also we got to tour at the the Polaris Career Center center which was very exciting and we have a lot of ideas >> about things that we could do in our six district which I know is not the same thing as a career center >> but how about Mr. Gomez talk about it with this is very exciting. >>
084Thank you Mrs. Shaver. Miss White >> I don't have much. Um just again congratulations Mr. Gomez. Um, also congratulations to our art students. Don't forget to see the musical this weekend. Um, and they're always wonderful. Um, I also was going to mention Richardson in the high school receiving the building building momentum award. And that's really all that I have. >> Thank you, Miss White. >> You should write an article. I didn't >> a good meeting for >> I know. And I forgot my article. Oh, >> you don't usually zip this quickly. >> Oh, well, >> Mrs. Zimmerman. >> Yes, thank you. Um, I was also at the vendor fair with my 4 club. We had a table where we were selling some soup mixes that we made. So, 4 is open to all youth ages
0855 to 19. FYI, for those listening, come check us out. Um, >> 19. Oh, >> yeah. Yeah. Um, and you don't have to live on a farm. Um, thank you to Miss Schulman for this this ducky pin that she gave. I love it. Um, really looking forward to the art walk. >> Oh, the student the students make of course. Yes. Thank you for the student to Miss Schulman and her students for our ducky pins. >> Um, I went to the OSBA Northeast Ohio spring conference in Youngstown. I could not attend the one at Polaris where Mr. Gomez got his award. But when I sat at the table and introdu like whoever I introduced myself to as being from Kyogre Falls, they would say, "Oh, with Anthony." Oh, with Yes, with Anthony. So, um yeah, I'm
086just getting, you know, learning a lot and getting to know the ropes um as a board member. So, it was nice to attend that. that it was at Chaffen um Career Center. So, I got to learn about the programs that they have um in the trades and and um they're doing great work over there. Uh and I am looking forward to The Wizard of Oz on Saturday. So, I'm a you know, former theater theater nerd. So, excited about that. That's it. >> I'm a blast. Um, you got me off the hook cuz my good friend Brenda Kimble is the from Youngtown School Board is the president this year and she was mad at me for not coming to her her district, but I said we have a board member coming. >> I was representing that
087got me off the hook with Brenda. Um, but I I was also at the vendor fair and spent a lot of money, but there's a lot of really good pottery and I couldn't resist. So, she was >> it was neat. Yeah, a lot of good pottery. And I was talking to the different people selling pottery about how in our one of the opportunities for students, art students are in new buildings is the ability to throw pottery on a wheel and how Miss Schulman and Mrs. McCarter have invested their own time and in learning relearning how to do that so they can teach the students in Miss Schulman's um spending time her time this summer. actually got a a grant to go down to Cincinnati to spend time um relearning that. So, it's one of the
088things we're able to offer in our new building. So, I'm really excited about that. I'm excited next year at all the art shows I'll be attending to see more pottery, which I invite our community art shows at all of our buildings are always open to the community at large and invite folks to go out to those when they hear about them because they're really exciting things. Um, but as well, um, I don't do anything for recognition because I always look at as we ask the community for this work, so I'm just going to do the best that I can do. Um, so I appreciate recognition, but that's not why I do the work. It's just because I care about the community. Um, but the Polaris Career Center was amazing um, as we toured it. I
089understand that we are not a career center. We're a compact, but CTE is CTE regardless. Our compact is just our version of providing career technical educational programs. So the fact that we aren't a career center isn't an excuse for not being able to offer anything that they do. So with that said, some of the things they're offering elementary school after school programs. We have never offered that. We could be offering these opportunities to our students. >> 4. >> No. In in their for career tech to expose elementary students to career tech. We don't do that within the six district compact. Why not blame our executive director? That's who I blame. >> Middle school opportunities. They bring their middle school students in to see their career tech programs. You don't need to wait until 10th grade
090to expose students to career tech. And personally, well, I'll save that comment. But some of the programs they have, engineering, technology, robotics, and automation. They have what's the one? CNC machining. That's something we need. You can drive all around Kao Falls and see how many CNC machining jobs there are unfilled in Ka Falls. So, we should be offering more of that. Pre- N nursing, it's a program we don't offer. And after you get your pre- N nursing certificate, you can come back as an adult ed student and get your nursing certificate at the Players Career Center because they have 1,000 students at the Career Center and 3,50 students private paying for adult education. Another thing that we don't do in the sixth district career compact. And so how much money are we losing when you
091think about it by not offering adult education? And that's you don't have to build anything. You just use the same classrooms. They use different teachers. And you know how those teachers are paid? Through private pay. And you know who's not doing that? The executive director of the sixth district compact. And one of the new CAP board members was there. We had a very good conversation with him about the sixth district compact. and he um left sharing many of our concerns as well. Um so one of the things I'd like to bring forward is a resolution um about the sixth district compact and some of our concerns. Um both Mrs. Schaefer and I have spoken with Dr. O about the process because the chair of the six district compact is the superintendent of Hudson and he
092failed to evaluate the director and in 13 years the director of the sixth district compact has been evaluated by the six district superintendent once. once >> and this year her contract is up which by law you're required required to evaluate and she wasn't evaluated. So, I'd like to draft a resolution for us and as part of that resolution, send that resolution to every board member in the sixth district compact, every superintendent and to the offices of the sixth district because the just nonchalant attitude when this is our job as board members is to prepare our students to succeed. It's one of the things we get evaluated on the state report card is have we prepared our students for post-graduate success? And just the nonchalant attitude that we're getting from our other districts is just really
093upsetting to me. We should care about it. They don't have to agree with my thoughts on the executive director, but they at least have to do their job as the board just as we as board members have to do our job as boards because we can't do anything about these other superintendents that aren't doing their job. I know our superintendent tried to get an evaluation done because that's her job. So, I can speak to knowing that my sixth of that pie did their job. It's just very disappointing to me what I've discovered. So, that's something I'd like to bring to our board as a resolution just so that all other board members in the sixth district compact are aware of what's going on because I don't think people are aware. So, those are my comments
