001regular board meeting school board um May 18th, 2026. >> Okay, we're going to push your hand on your hook. Ready? I pledge algiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Thank you all very much. >> Okay. I want to announce you. So, can y'all >> you can be seated. >> Okay. So, in kindergarten this six weeks, Blakeley was our awesome eagle. Congratulations. In second grade, Senora and fourth grade and getting ready to go to middle school is Ally. >> Yes, ma'am. >> And then in case you have, you want to take pictures over here? >> You sure can. >> So, how this paid drive you got there? If >> you're jealous, you can

002get in there, too. >> Hey, Mom's coming. Mom's coming. Note yourself. I didn't work on my flexibility. If I'm going with me and Allison squat down, get up shaking. >> Uhoh. Oh, she wants to squat down, too. Stay there, Mr. Van. Stay there, Mr. Van. >> Uh, our A teachers weren't able to make it tonight. Y'all may not have noticed, but graduation happened. Everybody's gone. Usually, we'll be pulling here tonight. >> So, all of you uh a participants who want to be acknowledged, come on up. I'm going to read what Mr. Davidson. All right. So, m uh Mr. Davidson wanted to celebrate um the fact that we had students qualified in eight events. This is all we have tonight. The range team, Grayson Clement, Josie Blevens, Cassie Bowy, and Jared Ratliff was the range team.

003The land team, Kinder, Jason Thomas, Jaden Burton, and Joel Howard. Amech team, Chase White, Bryson Baker, Kell Peterson, Jack Brinkley. Meat judging team, Hunter Van, Abby Nolles, Kaden Jenkins, and Kender. And the environmental natural resources team, Abby Nolles, Kaden Jenkins, Riley Rogers, Solid Boz. This team placed ninth in the entire state of Texas. Good job. Um, we also have students qualify for categories uh two categories. Abby Nolles qualify for state two plant science and soul stewardship. Great job, Abby. And then Brace and Clement qualify for state and natural resource division. Those two will travel and compete May 31st, >> I believe. >> At Charlton State University. >> Good job, Abby. >> Go Texans. All right. Can you picture them for me? Thank you. Now we can give him a big old round. >> Stay there,

004Mr. Van. Coach Davidson, you want to bring Chris uh Miss Beley up here? >> Brooklyn, they say bullying. I heard him a bunch of times. >> Uh if you don't know, uh we just came back from state meet. Brooklyn finished third in the 1600 state meet. A very amazing couple three weeks >> from going from third in district of 1600 and uh dropping uh being regional champion and then third in the state. uh she finished behind two girls that are uh going to division one university running and she was just about this far behind one of them >> and uh she has done a great job, tremendous job is pretty amazing. Uh I guess maybe the thing I should tell you as much as the third place medal is that uh we have a uh

005school record in the 1600 to 520 that was set in 1998 by Clifton and it has set it has survived through some pretty good runners over the last several years. And uh the Brickham goes to regional, she blows it away and runs a 513 which destroyed it by 7 seconds which is amazing. And then she goes to state and destroys that by six more seconds or seven more seconds. Runs 506. So >> hey, she's she's been tanking all year. She's been faking it all year, coach. No, no, it, you know, uh, Brooklyn does everything. >> Every every sport that we do and, uh, and it says a lot about what's necessary in a in a small school for your for your athletes to compete. She was named our athlete of the year the other night,

006the athletic banquet. Uh, but, uh, you know, just amazing. I I'm looking forward to seeing what I can think three years old, you know, because she's done so well this year and I think we're she she keeps showing me that she's not there's not a limit there and she's just done amazingly well. Right. And I think the happiest part was that after the meeting the other night, she got to drink a Dr. Pepper for the first time. Hey, get one for the road, kid. Don't tell anybody. >> I think he's just getting started. Wait, wait, wait. Usually it takes longer because we have more kids, but we don't we don't believe you want to go, you can go tonight and be about your lives. If you want to stay, you'll learn a lot about school

007business, but we test for two minutes. >> I'll see you later. You out here? >> Yeah. >> All right. Be good. Uh, anything I might pick up for like when we get home? >> Nah. >> Go eat dinner. Enjoy it. >> I'll see you. I'll see you. I'll see you shortly. >> What are those things? Like tunicles. >> Go. No, you'll enjoy that pulled pork. Go enjoy. I'll see you later. >> Be good, buddy. >> What are we What is this? >> 166. Pretty impressive. They've been at it a long time. That's still impressive. >> Bailey was the senior over there. >> Yeah. How are they doing that? >> They've just asked so much on their phone. >> How How are they doing? Have a great day. We We don't do much funing on that.

008>> It's a lot of They've been doing it for 20 years, so they've been lots of time. >> Hi y'all. I don't think I've met y. paid for the first. >> Nice to meet you as well. >> It's awesome. >> No, we we um >> no one no one signed up to speak. James, >> well, it's good to see y'all. Nice to meet you. >> Absolutely. We don't have anybody signed up to speak. So, >> no one did. Nobody did. >> I didn't see him. >> Kyle, come back up here. >> Amy, sorry. >> Come on, Miss Kyle. >> So, uh, Chrissy's not here, but I know you met Christy Taran. >> Just wanted to formally, they wanted to come tonight. Want to formally introduce her high school principal Kyle Cersei and his wife Amy.

009Uh they have a they have a graduation to get to, but I'll give y'all 30 seconds to interrogate. Okay. They won't do that. >> Okay. I'm glad y'all won't know. >> Yeah. >> But uh wanted you to put a face with the name. We talked about his name pretty much all year and now here we are and it's time to time to switch gears and start a new chapter. >> I did make one commitment to him. Uh nothing really financial so don't stress about that. Uh my goal is to is to make him the best version whatever his goals his career goals are just like anybody that all any of my administrators is to get them as fast as we can. So we're going to grow. Allison's worked about to start her do you start

010class yet on your doctoral studies yet? >> I just I just gave the other day >> I just gave her all my doctoral textbooks. >> There you go. >> Save me a bunch of money. >> And just like I've I've talked to Mr. Milmo anything stopping these guys and is themselves. >> Okay. >> So, sign up, work on your superintendent, sir. Let's let's build our leadership team into something phenomenal and do great things for kids. It's been the conversation that we've had. >> We're glad you're both here. We're excited what y'all bring. >> Well, thank you. We appreciate it so much. Uh I am I'm thrilled to be be able to come here and serve at Valley View. Uh I can't wait to get it rolling. Uh I I do want to take a little

011bit time to rest for a couple about two weeks, but then after that I I think it's go time. But um I appreciate Dr. WAC and and and the team already. They've been nothing but welcoming the kids, the staff, the administration, everyone. So I'm very appreciative and I'm very excited to get it going. >> I can't wait. So it's going to be good. >> I'm glad that they are. I I think I've been bugging them a little bit with with what I think is stupid questions, but they they continue to reinforce that no question is a stupid question. But in my mind, it is. So, uh but I but seriously though, >> when you get there, I'll tell you. >> Yeah. And I believe it. But uh but I seriously though, my my family and

012I, we we're ready to uh hit the ground running. So, thank y'all for having us. Thank y'all for trusting, you know, me to to be one of the administrators uh on this team. I appreciate it. All right. Thank you. >> He told me I had nice Well, yeah. But >> we'll see you in a couple weeks. >> Be good. Y'all have a good night. >> Better. >> Oh, yeah. Way better. Still got a little bit of >> feeling. I got a There's a massage place over the state line that like >> All right. Check it with I'm messing with I just mess with me. >> What did you do? I bet I bet. >> All right. >> So, uh Christie Christie is uh running late, >> but we'll go ahead and um we're going to

013swear in the two officer uh board trustees that are here present right now. >> Thank you. >> If you'll come up to the front and I'll have Miss uh Huber take care of you. >> Come on up to the front. Yeah. >> It's those three. >> No. No. >> Yeah. Yeah. That's right. That's not Chrissy. It's not Chrissy. >> No, she doesn't need to be here for She doesn't need to be here for this. You got your finger. It'll prick your finger. A little blood. >> She's not going to make you put a bobble or anything, Chris, so you don't burn on catch on fire. >> I just heard your conversation. >> Oh, that wasn't that wasn't that that wasn't what I was meaning. K I I >> your name yes >> do solemnly swear

014>> that I will faithfully execute >> the duties of the office of school board member >> the duties of the office of school board member >> for the Valley ISD >> of the state of Texas >> and will to the best of my ability >> preserve >> protect protect >> protect >> and defend the Constitution >> and laws of the United States >> in laws of the United States >> and of this state. >> So help me God. >> Okay. I state >> I J >> do solemnly swear >> that I swear >> sorry that I have not directly >> that I have not directly >> or indirectly paid >> offered >> promised to pay >> contributed >> or promised to contribute >> any money >> or thing of value >> or promised >> or

015promise >> any public office >> or employment >> for the giving or withholding >> of a vote at the election >> at which I was elected >> or as a reward >> to secure my appointment >> or confirmation >> whichever the case may be. >> So help me God. >> That's on that. I know. >> Sign. You'll sign it. >> Yeah. >> That seem like a lot. >> Well, one's one's an oath and the other is that you didn't promise or take money could be in the suit that you're sitting in. >> We don't get for this. >> Well, some people some people might leverage your assistance at the board. >> There you go, sir. >> Thank you, Michael. Appreciate it. >> All right. At this time, we're going to move down to action item

016C 5C. And it says consider I'm sorry uh discuss consider board realignment. Okay. >> Are there any motions to >> actually we keep what we have? I make a motion to keep Eric president. >> Just no just no motion at all. >> Oh no. >> You just you just would make a motion. No motions. >> Are we good with keeping what we have? >> I >> All right. >> Then no motion. >> Then we won't have a motion at all. >> We will move forward with We'll move back up to consent agenda. >> I make a motion to approve the consent agenda as presented. >> Second. >> All right. We have a motion by Kathy and a second by Chris to approve the consent agenda. Okay. Any discussion? Any questions on the consent agenda? >>

017Got no good. >> Okay. All right. All in favor of approving the consent agenda, please say I. >> Those opposed. >> Right. >> Seven. >> Yep. >> All right. >> Next, we will talk about principal. >> Okay. Principal. So, yeah, let's let's move into principal reports. >> Alison. >> Okay. So, Allison. >> Allison. >> Here we go. Pretty short and sweet. >> Thank you. >> Should be at this point. >> Exactly. Pretty straightforward. >> Good job. >> No events coming up. >> No, >> you just saw the last >> cleaning out rooms, that kind of stuff. >> I put everything as of the last day of school, enrollment, attendance, and passing rate, but there are no events on the calendar because now we're just in reset mode and prepping for August. already have prek and

018kindergarten registration. >> Yes. >> How'd that go? >> Pretty good. Pretty good. I I feel like >> we did it in the evening this year and we had a better turnout. >> Okay. >> And the teachers decided um >> since we did it in the evening, they uh wanted to pull the kids and just do some quick assessments just to see what they could do, what they were like >> because that'll help us when we're grouping the kids. >> Hopefully we can spread them out a little more even. You know, when you don't know what you're getting at >> Did y'all have a bunch of new ones? >> That's part of that. >> Not a ton. Kids wonderful. >> So, you'll have about 60, you think, in that group? >> I'm estimating. >> There's like

01915 kids. >> Preschool or in prek? Is that >> Oh, I'm sorry. Um, in kindergarten, I'm estimating about >> somewhere around. >> I thought you were talking about incoming prepay. Sorry. I actually asked for Sorry, I was not very clear with my question. >> Good. >> Make it happen. >> Did start a prek? >> Thank you. >> Yes, >> they did. They've had one. >> They did. >> They've had one a few years. >> Oh, have they? >> They added a second class last year. >> They came up on my Facebook. >> Um, we did so we did end of year awards. We obviously did the prek and the kinder end of year programs, but we did end of year awards for first through fourth and we had about 160 kids that got recognized for

020either A on a roll, AB on a roll or got a math award or a science award or something like that. So, and those pictures are on Facebook and the kids were very excited and very proud. >> What happened to the kids who didn't get an award? What happened? >> They did not get an award. >> They are going to try harder next year. >> That's exactly right. We don't give >> We did not do participation. >> We don't give participation trophies. >> Y'all hear that? >> Oh, we heard it. >> Very nice. >> Said we don't we don't get participation trophies. >> Earn it. Earn it. Hey, I got a I got a horn in my office. >> I need it. >> Or you can speak up like a man. >> What? I didn't

021hear you. >> That's called selective hearing. Remember, I'm married to you. >> Do do you have any u estimates? Like right now we got we ended with 366 kids. >> Do you do you have an estimate on how many we'll start with? >> I think it's going to end up being about the same >> about the same right now. >> That big class is going to >> middle school. >> Oh no, that's going to be our >> that's our second biggest class. Our biggest class will be four. >> Oh yeah. >> But during the summer you organically grow what? Maybe 10 kids normally. >> Yes. >> Move a few moves. >> Probably at least that I would think. So, she stays here probably during the summer she'll gain at least 10 kids. >> I think

022it's going to end up our prek group right now is sitting smaller than typical, but I think you know how that goes. They end up coming out of the woodwork at the end of the summer. I think it's going to end up being a wash. I would bet we still are sitting around 365 in August. >> Okay, >> awesome. >> Thank you. >> Still sponsored. You're welcome. >> So, uh Allison didn't say I'll do it. I'll do it on my enrollment. No, you I'm just teasing. All right, Mr. Milo. >> Good evening. >> Howdy. >> I'd like to first start out by presenting our teacher of the six weeks, Joelyn Griffith. >> She came to be recognized. You're the only one. Good job. Good job. >> She works with our most needy student. She works

023in our special education uh department. You know, when you meet her, she This isn't just a job. It's a vocation for her. She deeply cares about kids. She works with kids that aren't even on her case. She'll go out and help them and and even communicate with parents. She does a great work. Great work. >> And taking on cheer. >> You cheer. Yeah. You're going to be cheerleading. >> We'll see. >> Big heart for kids. >> It's going to be fun. >> Now, is this your daughter? >> This is She'll be in seventh grade. >> Seventh grade. Are those Jordans? >> Yep. Looks like >> Oh, yes. And Hurley loves the shoes. So, >> I already bought a pair like I already bought a pair this weekend. >> That's awesome. >> Nike. >> They didn't

024have the finish on them, but I played basketball and school with those. I love I love them. I I actually still have them. >> They're falling apart a little bit 35 years later. >> Yeah. >> Nice. >> What you got, man? Well, middle school attendance, fifth grade's at 62 students. Sixth grade's at 58. 7th grade 78. 8th grade is at 56 for a total of 254 students that we're finishing with. Our attendance rate is still pretty good. We're at 95% across the board with a few decimal point differences between the grades, but 95%. >> 94 95.83 to be exact. I've got it. Hey, that was the highest that was the highest of all three schools. Good job. >> We have That's pretty good attendance. >> Gradew wise, we have in fifth grade, we had an

02587% passing rate. Sixth grade showed up with 100%. No, come on. That's pretty impressive. Seventh grade struggled to cross the finish line with 75% passing. Uh eighth grade was at 88% um passing all their classes. We also had an award assembly on Tuesday before Tuesday of last week. We gave out 109 awards. Not all they weren't participation awards. Many students won multiple awards. Uh I'll kind of give you a list that we had 13 for perfect attendance, 60 students that were on the honor role, 108 students uh that were recognized for specific qualities by their teachers, and we had 28 students who received recognition from when they took the ACT in November, uh rising scholar award. >> Good. >> So, lots of awards, lots of accomplishments. Uh we wanted to celebrate at the end of

026the year. A lot of kids and teachers worked hard. wanted to recognize that. >> Good. >> Great. >> Picture with >> So, just for curiosity, the seventh grade struggle >> just like to say a poor group, but I mean just a group that struggles educationally or >> No, I think >> fall behind because of COVID or >> I think seventh grade tends to be a bumpy year >> typically >> in in the TESS and the standards. I mean, you can you can see it in our schools typically, too. Um, you have some teachers that have very high expectations. >> Um, and those are some of the variables there. I believe 13 year olds, you know, it's a tough that's a tough age. >> You have to wonder. >> That's a tough. >> It is a

027tough age. >> For kids that age when I taught math, I mostly taught seventh grade math. >> But we still hold them to high standards. We still teach them. We still work with them. We bring them in when they're um myself and Miss times when they're not passing classes. All parents, shoot them emails, try to get them in for tutoring and Saturday school if that's what's needed. Sometimes they just need the time to get it done and we'll give you the time to get the work done. >> They advanced to eighth grade. They just didn't pass every single class. >> Right. >> That six weeks. Yes. This six weeks, >> this particular. >> So, they may have just failed math or just English. And and to be honest, that's where when I when I looked

028at that, I was like, "Okay, where's it fall?" is about 50/50 split English and math. >> What happens? I mean, because I know it used to happen. What happens if a kid like doesn't pass like math >> like >> they go summer school? >> Where we have summer school? >> We're required to give accelerated instruction, too. We provide additional supports, and we do that during our enrichment block. And also with fifth and sixth grade we have a lab class where we provide extra support. >> I will say for special education there was a lot of communication with parents between not only the admin but myself and the teachers as well reaching out these parents and saying hey this is what you work on with them but at home you know this is what we're working

029on in the classroom. This is how you can support them >> just to really build a foundation for those kiddos that were kind of you know >> not quite hitting the mark. So it was a lot of communications. >> Okay, >> good. >> That's great. Good team. >> Do you want to take a picture with me? >> Miss Griffith. >> Oh, picture time. >> Picture time. >> Better than me sweating in my >> photographer. Always happy. Always a photographer. >> She's welcome. >> One, two, three, >> 17. >> Wait for all the way. >> Thank you. Thank y'all very much. Thank you. >> Cheer camp coming. >> Hey Milmo, I just wanted to let you know you have 74 fourth graders coming to you. Sixth grade. >> 74. >> Yeah. So you're you're going to

030be a plus 19 from jump. >> Okay. >> Just so you know. >> 74. >> Lock and load. >> Mr. Craig. Oh, he's not here. >> Where's he at? >> I'll put his I'll put Yeah, he's on vacation. He's he's uh in his he's in Speedo in Naples, Florida. >> Come on. >> Thanks for that. You didn't need that. >> That's what he told me to tell y'all. That's what he told me to tell you. >> Speedo makes regular size trunks, too. It's not all this European stuff. I had >> He is He's in his Russian wear. >> I don't like the way you said regular >> regular traditional American swimsuit. Is that better? >> I like European. >> He's in He's in his European his Russian European. >> I mean, you got everything I

031got. Not there. My belly. You don't see nothing anyway. >> Nobody likes to wear >> All right. There's kids in here >> and we're being recorded. Thank y'all. Okay. All right. >> I I don't know what we're doing. So, uh I'll talk to I'll go ahead and just do high school. U Jesse, I'll do my review and then we'll jump over to your u te uh information. All right. So, high school 261 as of graduation. It's a wash. They'll start at 261 because there the same number of eighth graders as there are seniors. So we've added staff uh added kids because we've added staff with kids. So we're already a positive in the secondary high school in particular. >> Uh we are at 880 as total enrollment because we already took out we already took

032out some kids already enrolled before this. They unenrolled before school got out. So that helps us have a cleaner look. I told you my goal was 9:13. We're still looking at 35 kids face to face or HLA. It doesn't matter. >> Yep. >> That's our goal. 9:15 is our goal to start school. So, we're going to uh we've got some public stuff. We got one pagers going out for our HLA program that Hartford and Ethridge are pushing that agenda. But attendance percentages, freshman for the year, 95.89, sophomores 95.68. Juniors 95.48. >> That's pretty good. >> Seniors 94.98. 95.55 for the year.3 behind junior high. And fresh and elementary wasn't bad. Elementary overall with prek was 94.69. I told you our goal is always 95. The standard is 90. So that's just more income for us.

033More in 88. >> Good. >> We have more income than I >> I've got. Excuse me. >> Yes, sir. Yes sir. Uh I uh I uh it's work. I uh am very conservative on our budget. So we have collected about a million dollars more than I'd put in our budget this year because I don't do 100% of our budget. I do 97%. And people paid their taxes and back taxes this year. So that's why we have an opportunity here to come close to balancing the budget. Not because we stayed on budget, but because people we on the financial side, I I plan low on the on the uh revenues and I plan high on the expenditures so it'll hopefully come out in the wash. So that's a and we already went over the budget last

034time. I'll go into next year's budget in just a moment um as a discussion item. Any questions about Oh, we graduated everybody. Everybody was 100% CMR. Jesse, what do you think? 90s. >> Yes. >> Yeah. Yeah. Easy. We'll be you're referring to this class. Yes. 26. >> Depends on We'll be at the worst about 96%. >> When I got here, we were at 68. And not because they're doing anything wrong. It's because that was a standard by the state, but we've had to up our game since walking in the door. We were up behind. >> Change what expected or what? >> Yeah. They changed the standard that in the middle of the game, they changed it. So, what about like that EJ Young that was in that senior class? He withdrew >> so he doesn't

035hurt us. He He He withdrew and went to home school. No, no, EJ. We got his credits. We got him finished, right? >> They got him They got him finished up for uh >> No, he >> No, no, no. There was another kid that we got graduated and he withdrew. It was he who was >> I was as I remember >> Anyway, there was another student. >> But he withdrew I believe he withdrew to home school. >> Okay. If they return, >> if the student withdraw stay there no longer >> as if as long as it's a home school or another school, it doesn't count against our graduation rate. We were 100% graduation rate. >> They didn't just withdraw and go home. They have they have place. >> They have they have to sign a

036form to to validate what they're doing. >> I I didn't Yeah, I just I was looking for them, you know, during those activities. I never seen so great. >> All right. Um sorry, let me get back to my notes. We'll go back to Jesse uh for curriculum instruction. >> Star scores. >> Okay, one second. Y'all have a handout. He's going to do star score stuff, but it's a TE certification. It's a blue blew the header on it >> and I put four to a page. So, we didn't have 27 pages. >> I got you. >> Thank you. >> You're welcome. So, uh we're going to This is an action item in a moment. He's going to talk to you so you won't have to hurt your hurt your eyes. All right. Go ahead, sir. >>

037Uh, just real quick. So, we'll be getting our star scores, high school EOCC's this week. We'll get three through eight. Now, that is literally at the highest level of the district. >> Um, then they'll be disseminated a little bit more for the rest of the district admin. They will be public on Texas Assessment U website give or take around June 10th. You know, when I say that, the high school will be available before the 338. always get the high school scores back because the high school has testing in the last week, well, last week or two of June for students who need that. So, we'll be getting that and then the June uh board report, we'll be going over those, breaking them down. Also, in the June uh next next month, we bring in the

038parent family engagement policy as well as going over the federal funds, ESSA funds, uh preliminary amounts, which then talk to you about what the sitebased committee decided to do with those funds. Um, going back to CCMR, >> you brought that up. The state did up the game and then like they always do, they are making it harder based on some other things that unless they make a change, they're making it harder for us to to score for students to qualify. So, that's something to look forward to as we go with the class of 20, >> 30, 29. >> Well, even starting with next year's class, I have to think about what year this is. Class of 27. >> Yeah. >> Next year. So, uh, we'll have to do a little bit more hard work to

039get keep us at that level, but we will be at least 96, possibly 100% when classif we're getting a there's going to be a 28 refresh for accountability, but because CCMR is lagged dead, it affects the class of 27 because that's one year behind. There's going to be a refresh at 28, a refresh at 33. Starting basically with class of 27, but it's still on the rule of three. You can pass a dual credit math or dual credit English, you're good. Nine hours of any dual credit. You hit your TSI, SAT, ACT, and math and English. Doesn't matter combination. Be a TSI math, which mean English. You can do college prep, which the state is making that harder because no one's eligible for college prep math next year unless they add some vendors to the

040list. So, nobody in the state has that opportunity. Complete a pathway of study, a program study with an approved IBC within that study. That means at least four credits along with passing the industry based certification. >> Welding we is welding is where we do really well. where I was doing animal science, floral, >> soil, a egg department. Those >> you got all those things. Join the military. Now the states made that a little bit easier because now the military is supposed to report to the state who's joined. Used to they made us have to talk with recruiters. >> Yeah. You have to get one. >> So anyway, student can only count once. So if a student was in the military, got an IBC, hit all the TSI marks, they only count once. >> So anyway,

041that's how I get there. >> But you only need them to count once. >> Only need them to count once. So that's a lot of fun. All right. Uh provision uh provision of the certification of instructional materials form >> annual thing that we do an annual yes this happens every year. >> Basically without talking too much on page 32 is basically all that we ever really >> up until about three or four years ago. back page. >> It was basically a check box that said we are committing to providing and materials to cover 100% of the teaches in the classes and subjects we offer. Okay, that it used to be the old way we would approve it, the board would approve it, board president signs off, which is the last page secretary and I submit.

042But they don't open up what they call the instruction materials uh website until they get this. What they've done in the last several years is now made us present to you and explain >> every piece of curriculum that we are planning to use, think we might use. Okay, I'm not going to read these off unless you have a question about them. But we do this and we break it down between K5, 6, 8, 9, 12. And this is for the four course. Four core subjects, your math, RLA, your science, and your social studies. Basically a lot of it's the same from last year. Some of it's different. The biggest change from last year is going to be that we are adopting we are going to go with Savos Envision Math for our K4 for elementary

043and 912 high school in the subject of algebra 1, geometry and algebra 2. This math program is what they call a high quality instructional material >> and it's SBOE approved because now they got two different running lists of what used to be state adopted and what is now on the HQM SBOE approval list. They're not getting rid of the state adopted list because they have to have that because they are not until 2030 are they going to have all four cores covered with the SBOE proof. They're not saying that the old state adopts weren't high quality. They're just guaranteeing that what's on the new EMRO list is high quality. Basically, just providing everything that students and teachers need to be successful. Okay. Right now, middle school plans to continue using maneuvering in the middle. Uh

044reason we're doing that is because we saw a great success when all the teachers at the middle school started using that program last year. Had a a very big jump in our math scores and we're going to stick with that until we have a reason not to. Sure. I'm going to ride the horse together there. So, everything else, uh, this will be the last year going into we're using HM reading, uh, at K5 or K4. We'll be getting a new, uh, RLA program in 2728. That's part of the lift grant that we're getting to help us prepare for that. There you go. I don't know what else you want to know. There's a lot of information in here. >> This is information I see yearly. This is a new form. That's why I didn't. >>

045And it's basically the main the main reason for this is to make sure that what we're using we're not trying to sneak anything in that for nefarious reasons or >> it's an active >> everything everything we use everything that's listed here is either state adopted state approved or it's on it's not banned by the state. There are certain things that the SBOE has rejected as saying it didn't meet their quality. You can't use your instruction materials funds to do that. Everything here and this is all the what we call the full subject and the supplement materials. >> This is going to be on our website where anybody can look at it. >> Yeah. >> I mean where where any parent can say, "Hey, what's the >> and every school in the state has to do

046this because uh our state funding to nearly $200,000 worth of textbooks or is on hold until we do this process." And we'll get this and we'll send this in tomorrow and they'll let us >> when when do we when will we have it though? We got you got it right now. >> Anything new this year? >> Well, that's what I'm saying. We're going to get SBAS math at elementary and high school. >> Right. Um >> I mean update. >> Yeah, a lot of these materials we do on a year-to-year basis. So, we'll contract with Savos either probably a four year, eight year commitment or a combination. >> Um it's kind of like it's it's it's like going to the movie theater. The large popcorn is barely more expensive than the small popcorn. You know, it's

047like eight bucks for the small and 850 for the Well, that might be too cheap, you know. >> But it's kind of the same thing like if you if you commit to four years, you're not paying half of what an eightyear commit. It's like it's volume pricing. The more you commit, the better the deal. >> So, but it also depends on how much money you have to. >> What's the difference? >> Thank you for that succinct explanation, Mr. >> Y. Oh, this will be an action item in just a little bit. Um, actually, we can move into action items there. Uh, in your The first one's going to be a policy. Looks like a policy because it it is a policy. >> It's policy. >> Smells like a policy. >> It acts like a policy.

048Makes it a policy. Uh, to propose revisions. I told you I was going to bring you last time for DEC. This is a transition from uh paying out staff at the end of the year, giving them six days to them allowing them to acrue personal days, but going with five days. Um so they can build their own personal bank up as long as they're within the district. Uh saves us money from the office paying out, but also it cuts down on year end absenteeism where every my day is worth more than $50. So I have 20 we have had 32 staff members out in one day. That's catastrophic for most districts. That would be catastrophic. We have 45 subs. So, we're we're okay, but this would help alleviate that pressure. And also, >> you're paying

049the sub. >> And we're paying the sub. That's right. It it it helps us financially. And longterm staff may not see it, but it helps them long term. If they're with the district, they can build a family emergency or something like that, they have days. >> How many state days do they do? >> Five and five. Always five. States always five. We have latitude but the state always uh public education's fine. Yeah. >> So >> those acrew also >> those those acrew but those are with go with you. State goes state days can go with you if you stay in a state work for a state entity. >> Local days cannot go. They are local days. So now they'll burn their local days before they burn their state days >> so that they can >>

050and it's not this and it's not this thing well well it's a sick day or it's a per like just you get five days keep them or not and move on. We're not we're not splitting hairs anymore about what kind of if you're sick you're sick you know. >> So I'm not it just makes everything it's not this is a lot cleaner policy and this is the norm and this is the norm actually. It is a >> Okay. >> I move that the DISC school board approve local policy DECS. >> Okay. We got a a motion by Christie to approve the local DEC policy. Do we have a second? >> Second by Charlie. So we got a motion by Christie, a second by Charlie to move that that the board approves the local policy decented.

051Any any questions, discussion before we vote? >> Okay. All in favor of approving the local policy DEC as presented, please say I. >> Anybody opposed? >> 60. >> Brian. >> Yeah, Brian. Brian had a jet. >> All right. Next action item is the certification and provision of structural materials that Mr. Newton just presented to you. If you approve uh if you make a motion to approve that, we can move you get it signed and we can move forward with school business this summer preparing for the school year. >> Is that the certification of provision? >> Yes, ma'am. What Mr. Newton just went up? >> I move that VBIC school board approve the certification of provision of instructional materials as presented. >> Okay. Motion by Christie to move that the board approve the certification of provision

052instructional materials as presented. Do we have a second? >> I'll second. >> All right. Second by Jamie. >> Yes. >> All right. Any questions or discussion uh about the certification of provision instructional materials for 2026 27 school year? Right. All in favor of approving the provision of instructional materials for the 2627 school years, please say I. >> Anybody opposed? All right. Motion passes. >> Yep. All right. Next, we'll move on to discussion items. Uh, first one is uh to give you y'all a heads up, this is our district of innovation year to renew. So, that'll be coming in the coming months for yall to look at. There'll be a resolution. Then we'll Jesse will lead the team and they'll work on it and then'll bring it to y'all and then we'll post it and you'll

053have to approve it. But, I just wanted to let y'all know that that's this is our year and it'll look a lot different than the last one. We'll update it. We'll update the wording. And then we also need to take into account some changes that will have to happen with our alignment to a hybrid learning academy, but we can start without the DOI at this time. >> All right. >> How many kids do we have signed up for the hybrid so far? >> Uh I the answer right now is zero to my knowledge. I don't know. I know that they've been talking to several people, but the for the port in the portal filled out, the answer is none at this time. >> Okay. Uh we we expect it to start slow. So we'll see.

054>> All right. Next item is sorry. Uh BBIST budget. I put that in your packet. Uh right now it's going to be colored. It's rows. It's it looks like it usually does when I present it to you. Looks like this right here. Behind it there's a cheat sheet for what each function is. So you can have that. This is something that you may want to keep in your possession when you leave. they keep it private, please. This is beneficial to everybody to learn. Uh I go over these functions, functions 1 11 through 99 all the time, but it's easy to forget which line is what. So, uh if you'll look, the the last two columns here on the right is a plus or minus from last year, but this year's proposed budget numbers, you're going

055to see big jumps in payroll uh for a couple reasons. Teachers, it's because of the uh teachers retention aotment. They put that in to the budget now. So you're going to So okay, let's just let's start at the top. At the very top line, it says 776 6772. Does everybody see that? It says 2627 top right. Just below that, it says 6772. That is the anticipated 67 anticipated >> maximum compression rate that they're going to give to us. If you look, they're looking to compress four and a half cents nearly from us from last year. But the balance is property values for us have gone up so much that they can do that and still collect more taxes. More taxes will be collected because of it's a game for them is what this is. They

056offset but so the concern is they keep driving up property taxes to lower our MCR. What's going to happen when there's no property tax? That is a concern for all superintendents coming out of the 90th legislature. If that just so yall know I'm planting these seeds right now. So if you look at our numbers at the 5700 line, the top line, it shows that we have an more $550,000 more from tax to be to be collected. >> That's this year >> for the coming for the next year. For next year proposed >> next year. Next year proposed proposed. >> Go. >> Then the state says they're going to up there what they're going to give us. That 639 is actually a reflection of the TR. That's they're not giving us more money. They're paying for

057the teacher raises that they gave this session. >> Does that make sense? So don't let that number fool you. And then that line 5900 that is uh Mr. Newton's here for federal programs. Those are federal funds that come in that 178 177 that the uh his fix it for me. Jesse, you you're meeting with your what team? Sitebase SBDM. I could not get the initials in my head. SPDM committee, they talk about what these funds will be used for. He was just speaking about that also. And then so it shows that we have $1.2 million in revenue growth. This is proposed. I'm still waiting to see what the final numbers are because the final tax uh property values, the real certification, those certified values come out at the end of July. We have already started

058our yearly budget because we are July one budget. That's why this is proposed. Okay. I'm having to make a my my best guess with the numbers that the state's given us from their budgeting template. Okay. >> When when you're in Austin, >> has there been any I mean when they when they I don't I don't think they'll make it to where there's no property taxes, but how will they how will they fund these schools when if they do that? >> It's a good question. Um we don't know. They they're they're just talking. They're talking without a solution. They're just they're throwing it out there, >> I think. So, we're we're a year and a half away. So, what they're doing is >> they're planting these seeds out there so they can start cultivating it when

059it's time. So, everybody's not surprised. So, we've been hearing this for a year, >> all sorts of ideas. >> Well, they're all up for election in November. >> Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Once midterms are over. >> Yeah, we'll see. Right. So, again, this is all proposed and unfortunately it does there's political weight to to these things. So anyway, so then we go to expenditures. So folks 11, it says $45,000. That is those are the teacher salaries. $8,000 like last year that state paid them. That's a reflection of all of that money, but >> we'll be over that. >> Yeah. So but but if you look up above, the state's supposed to offset that. So that's what they're saying. But then I cut. So every budget line I could possibly cut, I cut because we

060need to. We have it's it's very tight. Our budget is still very tight. Well, we'll talk about that in just a moment. So uh health, that's just your kind of your natural raises and supplies. Uh function 21 if you look is instructional administration. Uh that's kitten moving over and we also move secretary salaries. That's what that change is in 21. I told y'all we would add to that. And then uh 23 school administration, that's her principles. So, um we've added uh she put she put the instru we added the instructional coach the instructional coach salaries into that piece. That's why you see a uh an improve uh increase there. But other things also uh we we've moved salaries where they're supposed to be. She uh she had a habit of putting everything in 11 and

061so we've broken them out where like the nurses are paid out of out of the health line, right? Like we should those things there's a function there's a we we've been very u forensic with our budget. So some of these changes are because we put things we are supposed to be and whatnot. So if you look in 34 we cut up we cut from transportation part of that a salary that was reassigned to another location. So on go ahead >> on on 34. Yeah. >> I mean I know you you cut it. >> How bad when you I mean >> is a lot of that bus maintenance >> uh be honest with you transportation uh minus payroll which isn't the grandiose of all of this. Our fuel charges are doubled. We >> I'm sure I

062mean I'm I'm projecting a 40% increase in not just not just fuel gas gas like natural gas. the city's water bill. Anybody have city water? I'm asking, does y'all's water bill double? Ours has nearly doubled this year. Like our all of our utilities and those things have doubled this year. We are way over budget currently. So I had to so I had to project out. >> So anyway, >> well do we do do we I mean for the most part I mean our buses I mean from maintenance perspective we only drive on county. We don't drive down private roads. Correct. Well, we drive we drive down one road to the end of F FRF and we come back up. We don't drive every single road in F FRF. So, uh we we're we are if

063if we weren't to do that, we wouldn't even pick up an FRF because not one road in FRF is uh county. >> Well, I mean those they don't drive down my propert. >> No, I mean >> stop and kids. >> We do our best we do our best not to do those things. >> Okay. Well, I mean I just know that I mean some of those roads from maintenance perspective. I mean, they'll beat the >> They do. Yeah. I just talked to Charlie. Our bus fleet is in good shape right now. Overall is in good shape. They take care of care of them. And we have extra buses, too. Uh my biggest concern is maybe some of our drivers in the in the parking lot here. Anyway, so that we won't go on any further

064about that, but things have happened. All right. So, uh, so if you see some of these, if you see the the like 20,000 or $30,000, those are just natural raises and just natural inflation to those lines. Uh, and some are more, but uh, this is where we are right now. This was the first run through. Be to be honest with y'all, I didn't spend a lot of time on this last week because we were inundated with graduation. This will tighten up and I'll keep this same document in front of you and emails so y'all can see any changes and that type of thing as we get more forensic with the budget. I just wanted y'all I need y'all to see this. There's two things we need to talk about today. This four and a this

0654.47 cents this four and a half pennies at the top. Do we leave those pennies and give the community a tax break of 4 cents or do we move them over to INS and continue to uh collect more on the INS side? So this if you add if you are our here's the tax rates. Let me get my handy dandy phone out. Today we're collecting this cycle is 93 cents 93.84 84 94 cents on a dollar on the $100. So with that being said, that tax it would go down. Sorry. So if our minimum tax compression was 6.7 6772, we add our 10 cents, 10.5 cents to that. That puts your M rate, your M tax collection is 7822 per $100. Then that's just >> M. >> And then you add the 2165 our current

066INS tax rate on top. Hang on. Just make sure my math's right. >> 21. >> I said 90. What did I say to the Hang on. I'm sorry. My math I hit my fat finger. I told you from memory wrong. I'm sorry. Yeah. 93 9385. So our current tax rate, our current MCR. I just I did something wrong. My math isn't math and my apologies. >> 90 93 was 9384. >> Yeah. So we went from 6169. That's our current that's this year's compression. Oh, you know what? That's That's already added. That's 722. It's already added. I'm sorry. So, yeah. So, 722. I'm so sorry. I already added the 10 cents to it. My apologies. >> I think it might be 8937. >> Next year's tax rate would be 89 cent 8937 per 100. >> If

067we What is it? >> 9384. >> If if that's if that's the MCR, if that's at 423, >> what does the four cents do? >> How much is four cents >> for the year? >> I just that's that's a bigger calculation. >> I mean, just that noise. >> That's the win. >> It's a pigs. >> That's the one. Thank you. That's what it was. >> Was it half a million, James? >> Uh, I can tell you. Give one second. >> What was he saying? Scarface is a horse. >> Give me one second. >> What would be better? >> I mean, if if we're going to try >> it, >> Wilbur. >> What are our options again? You can you can you can you can either collect 89 we can collect 8937 or we can uh

068or you can move those cents over and keep it at 9384 but that 4 and a half cents will be we'll be able to still continue to collect more on the INS and pay our INS debt off faster. So, uh, uh, you're looking at >> it's a a penny. >> Cannot go to the M&A. Correct. >> It cannot. No, not without a TR. Not without a TR. That's here's the thing is what the community here doesn't understand is if they would just pass our TR for 6 cents, it would eventually shrink away. It would, but it would still keep us fiscally healthy on the inside. I can't explain it. it just can't wrap their mind around a tax increase going away. But that's what would happen. Your property taxes would absorb it is what would

069happen. Anyway, uh I don't I'm not going to lie to you to do that math. I have there's two calculators on my desk. Two different calculations I'd have to do to get that number. >> That's right. >> So, and I don't have that document in front of me. It's got >> How much per penny? How much how much money would it be? >> I will tell you how much Okay. 6.5 cents. 6.5 cents is about $400,000. six and a half cent. So it's about $250,000. >> Yeah. So >> on the INS side, $250,000. And what that does is it allows us to pay off principal f pay the principal off >> and therefore the debt goes away as the interest goes away. >> But we don't have to have a vote for that. >> You

070the community doesn't the community does not set your the community only has to approve your M tax rate. They do not approve. How they approve it is vote you off the board if they're not happy with you. That's what that's what happens. The next two that come up would if they're not happy with that would be at jeopardy. Someone were to run against you. That's how they say they're not happy. They run against you. >> Kill it. Give it to Jordan. >> It can't bite you. It cannot bite you. It cannot bite you. >> Actually, don't kill it because in in in uh China that's good luck. >> So you're the cricket. So you're the horse anyway. Anyway, focus people. >> I know. What he said is we're not voting on that tonight. >> No,

071no, no. This is So, here's here's here's the whole quandry. I'm presenting this right now because we do have to take action next month because we have to have that set before so I can have a budget off the district can have a budget I want. But we need to talk about this tax rate piece because I have to send notices to the paper 10 days before the next board meeting. Let the community has to see. So >> you may be >> but the community will not see the INS side. The community only sees they'll put it we'll put it on there but they only vote on the M or they only there's actually the community >> they can come up here and argue about us setting the they can't do anything about the tax

072rate >> the well the magic pennies were the six cents that we could add >> six cents. Yeah copper >> that's on the INS side right? So if we move those four and a half cents over to INS, >> Yeah. >> we can collect those at any time because >> yeah, >> this board once had approved by the committee 29 cents on INS. Y'all could actually be collecting up to 29 cents right now without anybody's approval. Now, would they turn on you? I I would tell you politically they would. about four and a half cents. We're just continuing to pay off debt and be good stewards of it. This you can look from that lens >> or you can give them a break >> because they're going to say, "Well, they keep taxing us, but

073they're already paying 93.84 >> and so last year or last year after the tornado, we decided to move the 6.5 cents over. So, we just kept the tax rate the same." Now, look what happened. The tax rate is 9384 and they just compressed it down to 89 cents on us. >> So is that our last four and a half cents? >> No, no, no. This is just they just keep comp they just keep squeezing me on this side. I know. I get it. Yeah. So >> So we we if we were to go out for a ratification election, we can ask for 6 12 cents. That's to to max out the 17 cent compression. I'm just saying just to I'm just clarifying. I'm just clarifying >> these these pennies here. We can't get those those

0744 cents the state's taking them. We can't get them back. >> But we can move them without raising the tax. That means we can collect on the INS side without raising tax. >> Okay. I understand the math from a political >> we could collect if the committee would approve it. >> That's what we think about not think about aesthetics if you if you like what you're doing. >> So here's the deal. >> If if I mean I'm I'm assuming we're going to have this conversation in a little while a bond. And if we do, >> not tonight. >> Oh, we're not. >> Oh, then whatever. >> Then either way, we have to think of that because if you do this and that, get >> Yeah. So, let me just be real careful if we're going

075to bring in the bond. >> Yeah. And we're not even we don't even need to talk about that. >> So, with the size of the coins, if you're if you're going out for a bond this next year, >> uh depending on what whatever that looks like, you're going to X number of pennies. You'll want for the bond. Okay. If we put this four and a half cents over there, we are slowly getting closer to that 50. So right now we're at 2165. Then we add these pennies and we're at 25 cents. Does that So we are gradually going to get to that point if that becomes a thing just by the max this compression rate. >> Talk about the 50 cents. >> Yeah. It take us many years, but I'm saying if we continue to

076do this model, we'll eventually get there anyway. Building bond capacity, right? >> That's right. >> And once you get to 50 cents, They they their taxes don't it's frozen at 50 cents. You can run whatever you want to at 50 cents and it won't change anybody's taxes. >> Today it's frozen. >> I mean without legislature maneuvering and depending on what they're doing. I mean >> in in today's law 50 cents is is is a frozen levy. That's a frozen it's called a frozen levy. >> Yeah. And that's why Richardson and Argot and all them keep just just taking >> because because the new the new businesses and homes build the capacity for them to take loans out on. And that's why it doesn't it already at 50 cents. And so we just continue to >>

077for us determination will be as >> will we get businesses and will we get >> homes we're not there yet >> and so as soon as let's take HB once they turn the dirt once they turn the dirt it's a year before that actually hits my hits our tax ro you got to take that. So that's going to that will be a huge infusion into our property value uh our tax base. But right now because we stalled with other people went up. We stalled after the tornado because of the tornado the damage in the community and there was a maybe there was a uh well right now we were in the paper for what the city the city with the taxes that they >> there was this issue with the taxes with the city taxes.

078They overt taxed. So they froze they actually froze taxes this year. >> They froze city taxes this year. >> So I'm just saying like >> Yeah. >> So last year y'all moved how many over? >> Six and a half. The disaster pennies. We moved the disaster pennies over this whole. >> But here's the thing. You know what even and that's what and that's one of the things that >> Doc or uh Gaylord was talking about. He was say, "Well, y'all did that with and that's not right. We're being good stewards. We didn't we didn't raise taxes and we're paying off debt sooner. >> How many of you pay extra on your home or would like to? That's how you get out of debt faster. That's being a good steward. >> I just saying. >> So

079anyway, I'm just I'm just I'm sorry to do math oneonone with y'all. That's what I'm trying I'm just trying to clarify. I'm just trying I mean if if it's a if it's a quarter million dollar I need to look. I mean aesthetically >> yes good stewards all that. I I we just have to figure out what it looks like because when you get reminded of it and >> Well, it's a one time shot cuz once it once we don't do it, >> you're going to be four and a half cents behind the next time. And and then >> that's the I'm just trying to show both sides of the coin. That's all. >> So, >> yeah. And you the you're taxpayers. You live here. I mean, you know this. >> Yeah. I I just say

080for me I I just >> I'd take the 4 and 1/2 cents because if we don't we're 4 and a half cents behind next year and then next year they can press it again. Now we're 10 cents behind >> and it just keeps it just keeps biting us in the butt and it really bites the public in the butt. They just don't understand it and I get it. I didn't understand it either. >> Well, and and I mean we we need to we need to have a better explanation than we had last time. >> No, I don't disagree. >> We didn't we didn't explain that aggressively enough. that >> you somebody bring if he had a bond he's >> I know >> no matter what we need to explain why I mean to the I

081mean granularly explain it not >> what I can do is I can give an example what we're going to do this year with that money that's in that that account and how we pay it pay >> have an explain we're going to take their money which unfortunately I think we should >> we need to be able to explain why we're doing it and where the money is going to go for the purpose that we're actually saving money saving tax money >> over explain the debt payoff and not just >> that's right >> you have to make the decision for the uh tax rate >> next month. >> Okay. So, we have time just if we want to ask questions, >> you can come see me and we'll have a conversation. Be happy to have a

082conversation. >> You know, you will. >> That's right. I ain't scared. >> Fresh markers ready to roll. >> Let's go. I got my markers in my >> No, but I mean, this is this is it's got to be it's got to be a simple explanation or else nobody will read it past a paragraph. It's got to be a simple breakdown. >> Well, it's got to be bulletproof. >> Yeah. I mean, no one's going to No one's going to hear a sermon on or listen to. They want to just know this is why we're doing it. >> That's right. >> This is the reason. Make it make sense. >> Yeah. >> Over the period of time, it's going to save so and so because you're paying the principal off early. >> That's right. Not not that

083we can get we can give it back to or we can pay it off and and makes people understand it and make it relatable. That's that's that's >> I mean I I don't I mean cuz we're not going to be able to sit down with a a person in public and have a 30-minute convers I won't sit down with have a 30-minute conversation about cuz I I mean you'd put someone to sleep. You just it's got to be a simple explanation. >> This is why we're doing it. >> And then we'll put the ad in the paper. People can come in and >> the next board meeting we'll have crowd everybody's going to come and they're going to ask >> and I'll have my whiteboard here and I'll explain everything. on your calculator. >> We

084will. >> All right. I just wanted to plant this seed for the budget >> right now. Just the big thing that you need to see at the bottom is even with all that money that we're over, we are right now we're projecting a negative budget. So, I mean, we this is the state's really not giving you more. Just to clarify, >> right now we're 226. That's why I'm still refining it. Right now, it says -226. Now, understand that's me. That's me projecting high and >> hoping >> and hoping low. But that's that's where we're at. >> But a majority but a majority of schools in Texas are have been giving >> deficit budgets. That's where we're at. >> The cafeteria going to be out of the new budget? >> No, the cafeteria is insurance. >>

085We didn't have to pay anything else down >> deductible. Just paid deductible. >> Deduct at this point at this point is this but it was this year's budget. >> Oh. That's what I was asking. Yeah, it shouldn't cost. Yeah, >> this is how much if we were over >> No. So, yeah, let me You weren't here. Let me explain that to you. So, uh the last time money was put into fund balance here, let me pull that up. Was in 2023 223 the column column on the left. Here's the issue with that. It's kind of a false money went in there, but what happened was Mr. Stokes had refinanced our amino debt and there was a overage like we got money back from uh that consolidation. So he put $71,000 the fund uh into uh

086the budget infused it into $1 199. So we put $21,000 in fund balance but we were negative in budget that year 501. So I want to I want to show I want to these are no that's what we lost that's what we lost that's what we lost each year currently right now that 3 million 36,151 is our current fund balance and we are at a threshold right now we're at we're at a healthy we're at a minimum healthy threshold >> so I've got to be balanced we have to be balanced that's correct that's the pressure that we're all sitting here under so when we really start looking at budget where do we start I will tell you that the most successful programs are the ones that are the most overbudget. We have so many kids

087in a that we are traveling so all over the place that's on budget and there's not money for that. Like we just don't have money for that that the expenses of that. I mean and it's not very rarely does your FFA program and band program shadow away extracurricular. It's not it's not the ball sports doing it, >> but that's what you're doing, right? I mean when when you have 200 what how many kids are in act? 250 about 250. So 250 kids in a your your your band number is how I mean you're you're looking at a positive number kids coming back there >> you know there you don't have attrition in the band you got you got more you it's an investment no I'm with you absolutely no >> the numbers when the numbers

088we got to look at that >> but I mean I think when when we look at it from a >> a a fair perspective >> the performing programs >> I mean if it's you know I mean if the per the programs that are performing and doing well and bringing home hardware trophies. >> Mhm. >> I mean, you know, we want to invest in those and feed those programs because participation so high and if there is a program >> uh that maybe is is is not performing, the participation is going down, maybe we pull money. I mean, we may have to look at those make decision hard decisions down the road. We don't have to right now, but I mean, that's just >> I say those are the conversations we'll have to have eventually. We're going

089to have to split hairs about it. older uniforms, >> deflated basketball. I don't know. I'm just I'm I mean, we we just won't have as we won't have as fancy a stuff as is as is other as we might have. I mean, you know, >> well, I just Hey, I just cut every budget. >> The flate gate. >> Hey, uh you know, I just cut every I just cut every budget. >> I mean, equitably. So, I mean, for us still to be healthy, we have to work within the budget. >> This blew up. It just didn't our our unexpected success in those programs is what blew up our budget. Not seeing it coming. You have a line and then you still got to continue travel. You still are sending two kids to state to compete

090in uh speaking events. You know, those are things that when you go to state those >> So, let me ask you this. Like, and I know this probably isn't a huge cost, but we have the kids that are in debate. Why don't we have them in the FFA? Don't they have a debate in the FFA? >> I bet you most of those kids are in FFA. >> Oh, is she speaking? Oh, it's a Okay. It's it's it's UIL and they're two different two different programs. >> I I just I mean I think that feeding the kids that are having the success no matter what the program is, whether it's FFA and band and feed it. I mean UIL I mean you know I think I think you're on the right path there. I mean I

091think that the those and those teachers are obviously the coaches are obviously having success. They're doing the right things. I mean, >> believe me, that FFA, we have we have the strongest FFA for our size of school in the state of Texas >> in the strongest band right now >> from a performance perspective for our size of school in the state of Texas. >> And those they deserve the budget for it. I mean, we we we have >> we had some decline and we reversed that decline. >> I mean, I equally pulled back because of what the state's doing. I told them that was happening. So, we had to work our budget lines. They know >> and this is and this is in those programs >> all no just just across the board >> but

092there's other I mean like like a I mean there's opportunities for for sponsorship advertisement B you know I mean I don't know how we can do that with band unless we start putting patches on jackets but I mean hey I'm >> no I mean >> but but those those are opportunities for >> revenue generation raffles uh I mean FFA's got a good way to do that so does FCCLA. I mean, you know, as that grows, that program is growing, too, right? >> If Yeah. And then we we're building we're about to build a child develop early childhood. >> Do we have like the little dolls and stuff like that that cry? >> No, but she just got a sympathy belly, pregnancy belly that like we're working in. And we do have a couple of them

093around >> and right now they're doing the they do eggs instead of babies for now. >> All right. But but you do I mean I know that that like at Gainwell had all those little dolls that cried. >> Yeah, they died. >> Poopy. >> Good to change them. >> Crystal's like I got lots of eggs doing that. >> All right. >> Maybe have baby rash. >> You would. Yeah. Next uh new uh board member your board member training minutes. We're working on these things right now. So >> now that I did it >> I know. I told her she's in trouble. Don't be blaming her. That's all you. >> Well, no. According to her, that's that's okay. So, if you look at the top page, what happens is this. It goes down, down, and down.

094Does that make sense? >> So, we'll use Jamie Nolles at the top. So, she's the only one who is new. So, the first 90 days, she had her did her training. And then, if you flip it, you'll see the rest of her training says Jamie Nolles here. And then Jamie Nullles goes across the top again. And you turn it around so it goes down, down, across. That's how this is to be read because I'll be honest with you, if I put on one page, we could not see it. I'm sorry. There. But anyway, so if it's red, we got we got to get that training. Now, there's new there's a new training I want to talk to everybody about. It's on the last page. This short page right here. >> I think only one or

095two of y'all have done it. And I think Christie may have done. Did you do the AI training? >> I don't know. >> I didn't even know we had an AI cyber security. >> But this this artificial intelligence training is brand new this year. >> You got to do it every year. These you there's there's some of these are annual and I'll send it to you. But this AI one is new. So that's why only one person has it because she faithfully told her, "Hey, you need to get this one. >> Can you send us a link?" >> I sure will. But anyway, I'll update everybody. I want y'all to see this. >> Jamie's up ahead. >> Hey, um >> she had to she had to see it's five more hours more than anybody this

096year. So, >> well, if we if we want to have a an in-depth conversation about, you know, future plans or something. I mean, you know, is there a way that that we can do a a team eight meeting and or >> we can do a working session and then nobody shows up and we can say whatever we want to in here. >> So, like that's >> okay. I mean, whatever whatever is legal and whatever. >> We just have a working meeting and we do it in my office and if any community member shows up, >> sitting room only. >> Okay. >> That way, we sit at the table and have the everything on the screen, we can talk it all out. >> Okay. All right. >> All right. >> Sounds good. >> All right. >>

097I think we should do that. >> And the last but not least, academic calendar. After looking at other school calendars and talking to my admin team, we meet every week >> and they were asking about those four days. We talked last I mentioned it. This calendar has all the minutes and this will be updated. I'm not going to ask you all to take action tonight. Wanted y'all to see it first if you had anything to offer. But if you look the last four Fridays, the 7th of May, April 30th, 23rd, and 16th, those are all four day weeks at the end. And we still have three 2.75 days, but no, 3.2 25 days left scheduled in the calendar. 3.25 days built in >> For bad weather. So we have the this bad weather day. So

098nearly nearly we have four plus days built into the calendar for uh bad weather. >> Gotcha. So and then board meeting still third Monday. >> Same as always. Yes sir. But we won't unless y'all want to change that. Yeah. >> I think that's it's just a good day >> or no no for me. >> Yeah. >> No what? >> No. Third Monday for board meeting. >> Third third Monday. just like we just like we do now. >> This would be the the >> and that calendar shows off the last four Fridays. Uh and the office the people in the office the admin team they were like >> that's good news. I talked about testing calendars and it would shouldn't affect testing too much >> say it's after. >> Yeah. So the first two are the

099last 10 days but we always test the first Monday of that window for in case we have an issue. So they said 8 days is plenty. You need to we need to look at December 26th because the third Monday is a everybody's on vacation which is at 21st and >> that'd be that'd be just a real >> what are the green >> I supposed to do it tonight Billy >> real challenge there >> I forgot >> okay >> is the light green the >> oh that's in the six weeks yeah that's a subtle way of showing >> comment that I've had from anybody and I'm just going to speak it I know it is what it is this year is like the younger some of the younger kids that the day like they like getting

100out early in May, but the day is really long for some of the younger kids. That's the only comment that I, you know, just >> Well, >> I feel like I need to say that out loud to everybody else is that >> I've had a couple people reach out to me. >> Young young kids, >> long day. >> Yeah. >> And you could go three or four more days and shave a little. >> Well, it's not that's not actually the thing. That's a misunderstanding. The daily schedule for us is dictated uh by our high school because we don't have if we elementary could get out early if we had two bus routes. >> Sure. >> But we're so small. We don't have the luxury of having two bus routes. So they have to go on

101a secondary schedule. That's actually the reality. That's why we have a traditional eight plus a 20-minute NSP. We're not going any longer normally in secondary, but >> well, not secondary this. >> Right. But but Right. But they're they're stuck to that world because of our bus routes because we're a small district and we don't have two bus routes. We just have one. That's why we have to share schedule. So, and then for us and then me moving it back to 345 was actually just to try to help everybody just for staff too. I mean, they need to get off campus and get places in their lives too. >> Oh, I understand that. >> Yeah. So, trying to find a middle ground and it was only 10 minutes like I mean just to change it like

102the length. It's the same about Lincoln as it was last year. >> That's that's a necessary >> long a we got in at three. >> So back then >> they based it on days, not minutes. And so that's when everything >> Oh, you're right. Yeah, I remember when we had that 315 instead of >> 3 when I was 15 minutes on >> but for us to get the minutes >> I mean that's the way to change the whole >> but we kept it yeah we kept it we kept it eight hours >> and that's why schools we used to do AB schedules and you can get really creative and shorten your day >> and now now we have we do all eight so anyway that's just the tradition >> you know and one one I

103mean you know I mean hey look as long as as long as the admin team and you that you you you're focused on this, I'm I'm fine with it. But um >> appreciate that. >> Look at December. I mean, look, it's your I mean, and ultimately it's y'all's decision, but I mean, in December of 26, >> we need to look at that board date. So, we may need to get creative here. Uh >> December be December 26th. Is that what you said? >> The December of 2026. >> Oh, of Christy, I I won't be here on the 26th of December if we if that's the meeting date. You won't And you won't either. No, no, no, no. But the third Monday is the 21st. That's >> We wouldn't do that. We wouldn't do that on

104holiday. >> We may want to move it up. We may want to look at that. >> That might be the one we >> We may not have one. >> It's not It's not It's traditional for school district not to have a December board meeting unless there's just unless there's just >> something that you have to have. That's usually the one that gets etched from the school year. >> Yeah. Cuz we got we got all the performances and that that week of the 14th is going to be so heavy with with with activities. >> That's usually the one that gets cancelled. We had that conversation. I think last year we skipped it. December. >> We may have. I think we actually did. >> Yeah. That that's traditionally if there's a if there's a board meeting that's

105canceled, it's the December board meeting because of the time. >> And then on March the the the the board meeting uh in March, you may look at because it falls on the 15th which is spring break. Maybe bump it or something. Just >> Yeah, we can 22nd. >> Just Yeah, just you know, just while we're looking >> I'll get that list approved. So next time when we come we have to do y'all have to approve the stopping list. I think I'm going to go >> update stopping >> y'all have to approve the budget scheme >> and so that we can get there's some things that this next one might be a little action heavy on I'm just letting you know >> budget meetings usually uh heavy and there may be an amendment I may have

106amendments for us to approve in August after they give certified value updates in July >> I love Mexico >> All right next let's see what's next wraps Uh we'll Yeah. Yes. We We'll see. We We'll see. >> Uh >> that's it. That's it. >> If we If we wanted to look at a date for work in session. Yeah. >> What What are we talking about here? >> What do y'all want? What do y'all want to do? So, the go You got it on this calendar. July 26th. So, uh, we can I am out for y'all to put on your I'm out with the Costa Rica kids that May 29th through June 6th. >> That's Emry's birthday. >> So, any anytime y'all want to pick a date, y'all can someone can send me the or send

107me I'll send it out. you know, if anybody has an idea what works on your calendar and we can make that we can talk that out. >> Uh I always like to let everybody know at least a week in advance. So let's if two is best but one is enough. >> That's my that's my >> then you're going to have shoulder surgery, right? >> Yeah. Well, I'll just be out for a couple day. Well, >> shoulder surgery is June is May uh June 17th. >> Who's who's doing that? >> I'm having it done. Oh, >> I will. The next morning, the 18th, I have to go and they're going to break it all loose and start rehab. >> This is This is rotator cuff. >> I'll be back. Rotator cuff and uh humorous >> bicep

108I mean bicep uh tendon. >> Have a good summer. >> Yeah, that's going to be a lot of after he has his lineman camp. >> That's going to be a lot of >> That's right. After lineman camp. That's right. After >> break it real good. >> That's right. Let's go. Um, can we go into executive just so that you can tell us who all you >> Well, I wasn't going to go into because I'm going to have the I'm going to have the T. Alison, would you come up and give them a rundown of your personnel? >> Yeah, it's a Do you need to executive for that? >> No. >> Oh, you don't? Since we're talking personnel. >> Well, >> oh, no. She can. These are all hires that I have >> signed off on.

109I've signed the contracts. So, she's just going to give you Yeah, we executive because these are personel. Well, uh, we're not discussing, uh, terminations. This is just an update. >> Okay. >> Personnel update. >> Okay. Um, so we have hired a new elementary counselor. Our instructional coach, >> her name is Miss Bar. >> Yes. The counselor is Miss Bar. The instructional coach is Miss Barrera. Um, >> we hired a third grade teacher. Her name has left me. Miss, hold on a second. Bill. I was like, "It's a first name. It's Billy." >> Um, >> Billy. >> No, she's not third grade. I just lied to her. She's kinder. >> Kinder. Yeah, she Well, they we made some shifts. Go. >> Yes, we're shifting some people. Um, we're still looking for We're still looking for another

110a third grade position >> and >> regular or dual? >> Dual. >> No. Well, >> we're we've had to sign we've chosen to sign a waiver >> so that we can bring an ESL teacher in with a bilingual aid. >> Yeah. Yeah. Okay. We talked about this in the car. Okay. >> So, we would need we'll need to replace her. So, it's a third grade general education teacher and then a kindergarten teacher. >> That's what we have left. >> And we have applications. We just So, um >> I hired a kindergarten teacher. >> We had two. We did, but we needed a the dual language side or bilingual. Sorry, I'm having to retrain my brain. A bilingual. >> Okay. >> So, right right now, we still need to hire that and then third grade position.

111>> And can you only do a waiver for one grade? >> No, you can do >> we have to do what we have to do to fill. It's just it's just where we're at. It's the whole state. I mean, at this point, if we can h if we can hire a someone for general education kindergarten, the Miss Billy that I was talking about, she would be phenomenal to transition into that bilingual role with an a >> Okay. I'm very confident she >> I'm very confident we'll be fully staffed by the end of the month >> with with >> And that's the only positions you have left open. >> All right. Awesome. >> Thank you, Melmo. on it. >> Let's start with what you got left open. >> So have fifth grade EL. >> It's been

112posted. >> Just posted that Friday, I believe. So be taking applicants for that. >> Um hired a history teacher, coach, actually one of my former students. He'll be coming in, Daniel Valente. >> Trying to make sure he he gets his certifications and he's eager. He's emailing, he's communicating, he's signing up, doing all that he needs to do, taking the initiative. >> What's he teach? >> History. History. >> Seventh grade Texas history. >> Nice. Um, let me think who else. So, hired Jennifer Neans. Um, she stepped away from education for a little bit. It's coming back in. Kindhearted person, very sincere, very genuine, working on her masters in literacy. She's not doing that because she wants to advance. She's doing it because she wants to help kids get better at reading. So, I'm um hired her

113for a ESL position that era >> students who are learning to read >> um in English. >> And it was funny. I called on her references and one of her references was saying how much she loved working with Jennifer. You know, part of calling references is also did I make the right decision? Right. And so, you really get that validation. Okay, we made the right decision. And and Amber Schneider said, "You know, I'd really like working with her again." I said, 'Well, what do you teach? She said, 'I teach science.' I said, 'Well, would you I got an opening. You want to get the band back together? >> You want to get the band back together? >> I I really said that over a reference call. So, she emailed me that night. She said, "Do

114you really do you have that opening still?" I said, "Yes, I do." So, she came in, we chatted about it, and she's on board. She's bringing her kid. I think uh is familiar with mission. >> So she's going to be join joining our science department >> teaching seventh and eighth grade science. Really impressed with her her >> really impressed with brought Raider back. >> Mr. Mr. Coach Raider's coming back to teach um Spanish lab for middle school. >> Who is >> Yes. No, I thought he went to Gainesville. >> No, he went to Lake Dallas. He went back to Lake Dallas >> later. >> Oh, excellent. >> He's hold on. >> Oh, yeah. Will great things. >> We have Erica Steinman coming as assistant principal for the middle school and high school. Uh coming out

115of >> Have you met her? >> Uh yes. >> Or did you work with her before? >> I did work with her. >> Oh, okay. Very cool. She did her internship uh with me when we were at we were at Calvin Middle School in Denton and then she went and worked in elementary school. Um Woodro Wilson I believe was the name and then she's at Don High School currently. >> Very cool. >> Solid person. Real sharp. I mean think who else did we get? >> Moves Ryan to math. >> Miss Ryan is going to be moving to math. That's kind of her wheelhouse. She prefers she did a great job with reading, but she said if the math position opens up, she'd prefer that. So, that that opportunity came up. So, she'll be teaching math.

116And then we have um Reed, Coach Reed's wife is coming in to teach sixth grade reading. Quite a lot of experience there. So, hopeful there she can do some good work with the kiddos. >> Okay. >> I think if that covers everybody. >> So, you just have one position open right now. >> Fifth grade ELA. And we have and we have options. >> Oh, you do have some options. Nice. >> Good job, >> I think we got some good candidates. >> Good. >> We got better through attrition overall. >> Yeah. >> Overall, we got better through attrition. >> And it's about building the culture. About building the culture, getting the right people in there who have energy, who cares about >> the band back together. >> Exactly. Exactly. Um, so we're doing a little bit.

117I think we're doing some good work. All right. >> Good job. in in high school. We have audio video open. I just talked to Cersei about audio video. He's got a coach, potential coach coming to fill that spot. >> Oh, really? >> Don't have the name. He didn't give it to me. He just talked to person today. >> So, I don't This just happened today. He was giving me an update today. >> He's working. He's not even here and he's working. Like, he's still on contract and he's still working for us. And then uh uh >> people are >> pretty much uh >> uh we have culinary. Uh and Kitten made a phone call. He may have a play at Miss Howard half day if we can make that work. Miss Sharon Howard coming back

118just to teach half day. >> She'd be phenomenal >> to teach what >> culinary. And so that gives uh Santos the opportunity to build early childhood support that and with Miss Howard and keep it all going in a positive direction. >> So >> Santos is great. >> So we we we've got potentially some lumps on the positions we have open. >> That would be good. >> I would like to be fully staffed by the end of the month. >> That would be good. >> And nobody else has turned in. That's You don't have anything else? >> I got we were anticipating Grayson Edwards. He's a uh his we got it today. We were anticipating that. We already we've already been taking >> Which one is that? >> He was the assistant >> baseball coach. The

119pitching coach. >> Pitching coach. >> Looks like Hayes Hayes Carl. >> Yeah. >> Is he leaving? >> Yeah. He he's going to work at WY ISD right by his house. >> Is that where he graduated? >> Wy. >> Yeah. >> Wy Pirates. >> Yep. So the >> again these kids these he's just a young guy. >> Two new coaches or just one? >> We have two coaches. Morris and Morris. We've already hired another assistant Morris. >> We just need one more Morris. Yeah, we have to get one more Morris. It's Morris. Morris. Morris. >> Shad. >> Uh, I can't remember his first. Jesse, do you remember Miss Coach Morris's the new coach Morris's uh first name? >> Phillip is his brother or something. >> No, no relation. It's just ironic. >> Did you get Philip?

120>> But he's But he's a veteran coach. It's not >> I don't Jesse and I are looking at each other. >> Charlie wants to know >> where does it come from? Where did it come from? >> What's it origin story? You like I'd like to know his his diabolical feeling. >> Not yet. >> Okay. >> An anticipating still looking baseball. >> It's just a lot of energy. I think he's got a lot of energy. >> We got to give him a contract. So, that's just about pride. >> I think I think you relate well. >> I'm anticipating. >> He's dressed. >> Yeah. >> I'll I'll text you. I'll I'll give you his information tomorrow. Okay. I got you. I know you're concerned about that. >> I got you, bro. >> All right. >> So, that's

121that's that's the update. We're we're three teacher four teachers for me and four staff. >> Great. That's probably good. And it's still early. >> Uhuh. It's way like the best time to to hire is >> right now. Well, >> no, that's what I'm saying. It's like like at least we're not still looking. >> This is true. And I will say this, overall we had a we had a quality >> we've had a quality pool of people to choose from. Allison still has people on her list. You still have >> candidates that you can interview from if you had to. Like we still we still have a pool of people to talk to. >> Historically though, we're in good shape from a people perspective. >> The best shape we've been in. >> Yeah, that's what I'm

122saying. I mean what date to get out of the >> July? Uh first of July, >> huh? >> July the first week or July 4th. July 3rd. July 3rd. Well, it actually depends on when their districts start. Their districts that new, not ours, their new district starts today. >> New district. >> So, but if they're a five day, see, a lot of schools are four day. So, it's tighter. >> Yeah. If you're a four day, like it's the middle of June. It's like riding. It's It's like just right around the corner. So, for us being a five day, it goes longer. >> Fantastic. >> So, we can hire deeper without someone breaking their contract than than somebody >> uh 4 days. >> Very good. >> That's it. That's exciting. >> That's what I got. >>
