while not required to do so by law the board often designates time in meetings to listen to the patrons of the district i will briefly review a few guidelines for addressing the board patron comments are part of the public record of the meeting patron comment time is limited to residents and current employees of the district except with prior approval of board leadership when several people share the same opinion the board asks individuals to select a representative spokesperson patrons may provide board members with written documents pertaining to their comments these documents must be submitted to the board secretary cindy over here time allotted for public comment is at the discretion of the board president tonight patron comment time will be 20 minutes with a maximum of 12 speakers individuals will be given one minute and those

representing a group two minutes as the board does not usually schedule patron comments on the evening when we celebrate our teachers of the year for the district we ask that you honor the time limits and respectfully use this time the board of education does not discuss matters which are not on the meeting's agenda nor engage in public comment on personnel issues of a district employee's character professional competence or mental or physical help if a patron wants to comment on a personnel issue the board requests that those comments be submitted to the board in writing if a patron verbally comments on personnel issues or any other manner the comments must be civil and refrain from personal attacks insults defamatory or slanderous excuse me comments about an individual so um so with that instruction i i apologize

but i don't have the sign up list okay thank you thank you for your patience thank you we're being so time efficient here and we um anyway um so our first i'll read off three names so that you know when you're when your turn is and when you're when you're on deck so first we'll hear from bruce mcarthur and then we will have a call in patron lori ann gabrielson and then following that john larson so we will go in that order and please and these are all individuals yes so each person will be given one minute uh miss bruce mcarthur is bruce in the room and if any of you are are not in the room or in one of the overflow areas that's why i'd like um if you're not here right now

then we'll move on to the next one and come back when you're in the room bruce mcarthur okay so so you'll notice on the screen 20 minutes and and so as soon as mr mcarthur begins commenting we will um start our time this is to help us no it's one minute one minute per person so this is the this is for all of us together just so that we can keep on on our on our time frame which we appreciate you all my two youngest have benefited from the iep programs and being able to go to canyon school where the trans the transmission rates were so low in elementary and middle schools and it was crucial to their well-being i know there's a lot of pressure on you for to violate the the health codes

mandates i don't understand that i just wanted to say thank you so much for doing what you've done i hope you know that your staff your administration and everyone in canyons when i see them i'm so grateful for what they've done and i know that they're doing it under fire as well as added criticism to boot so you're probably going to hear squeaky wheels are usually people who are unhappy or dissatisfied i think you should know that i'm very happy and grateful for what you've done under the circumstances thank you and um i was just notified that we're having some technical difficulties in our overflow rooms we we apologize and are going to ask for your patience for just a minute while we get those resolved because every one of you it's important and we're

grateful that you're here and so we'll just pause for for a moment if they haven't pre-registered then then okay again thank you thank you for your patience and we um we're going to give it another minute um yeah let's we should probably put another minute or so on our countdown clock at the end okay thank you okay just um i think i think we're about there eric are we good okay thank you okay next we'll hear from lori ann gabrielson who will be calling in and then on deck is john larson and after john larson will be lauren nelson who is calling in yes yes so uh lorianne gabriel said unmuted lauren gabrielson are you with us yes okay lorianne yes lorian gabrielson go ahead we can hear you hello are you there lauren lauren

gabrielson you know what we will come back okay uh is mr larson in the room uh thank you my name is john i am a parent in the canyon school district of two children uh one who is an iep child and one who is a high performer in the high school uh i i live in the brighton area and i just wanted to say thank you um this year the number of emails phone calls stretches by the teachers who've reached out tom sherwood at the principal has been amazing and i'd like to especially call a miss mortensen who is the band teacher who has made sure those kids have been able to perform have been able to go to their performances have been able to do everything without a single outbreak through their diligence and

this has not been a fun year and you can see the strain but i want everyone to know that there's parents who are so appreciative to everything that's been done to the extra mile that's been that's been run so i want my voice to be heard saying i'm very happy and very pleased with how you guys all dealt with a very difficult situation thank you thank you do we have lorian gabrielson on the line lauren uh okay so um we'll try again later um on the phone lauren nielsen yes i'm here okay great we can hear you um so first of all i just wanted to say thank you so much um for letting me speak and for everything you guys do i'm a teacher at albion middle school and i just wanted to give

a shout out i have been so proud of our students and our staff we have not had to shut down once this year and i really attribute this to the excellence and diligence of our students wearing their masks at school and the united attempts of our staff to both model and encourage safe and considerate behavior our kids have been so resilient and absolute chance and it has truly paid off we're now on the home stretch of this school year and i just want to encourage the board to finish strong one of my favorite things about teaching in canyon school district is that we've always been evidence-based in our practices research has unequivocally proven the effectiveness of mass and reducing the spread of kobit so i just hope that we can see the continuation of our

safe evidence-based practices and i hope that we can hold off on making decisions for next year until we get more research um especially since pfizer is likely going to be administering vaccines to ages 12 through 15. um anything we've learned over the last few years that means can change okay thank you do we have lorianne gabrielson no not on the line okay next then is casey putcher olivia aaron okay and then tracy henderson and then um steve henderson yes this is a group um hello um can you guys hear me okay yes thank you okay hello my name is aaron i am a second grade salsa student every day that i go to school my mask hurts my ears and every day that i go to school my mask gives me a headache every day

that i go to school i'm interesting my friends smile and every day that i go to school my mask makes me feel suffocated every day that i go to school it's hard for people to hear me which i really don't like every day that i go to school my mask is so distracting every day that i go to school i want to be closer to my friends without a mask on and every day that i go to school my mask won't stop bothering me those are the reasons why we shouldn't wear masks in school thank you for letting me speak about my opinion thank you hello my name is olivia and i am a fifth grade sales student march 13 to 2020 the last normal day i spent at school march 22 2020 my 10th

birthday that i celebrated alone in quarantine march 24th 2020 i learned that the school would not be your opening as promised promised april 8th 2020 my newborn sister was born the hospital wouldn't let me come see her in may the musical that i was cast in as the lead-in was cancelled in august i was so happy to go back to school even if it meant i have to wear a mask but now it is the only place that i have to wear one this doesn't seem fair i want my sacrifices to be my choice thank you thank you okay next is tracy henderson and clarissa and this is a group representing a group good evening board members my name is tracy henderson i'm going to seed my time to this young lady my name is

clarissa nichols and i wanted to talk about the mask that they are making us wear i go to chinese dli with a mask it makes it hard to understand what the chinese teacher is saying so that makes it so then i can't learn and get better at chinese when i'm in first grade in middle school i won't be able to understand because i couldn't hear and understand and fourth grade instead of learning more and i and the others will have to be reviewed it has made it hard for my teachers to help us since we can't understand her as well as or seeing how she is forming the words with her mouth that is all i have to say about the masks thank you clarissa [Applause] next then is steve henderson and after on deck

will be gail sears and following that rebecca cawley and i i'll just apologize right now if i mispronounce people's names so please correct it when you get to the microphone if i do my name is steve henderson i have a degree in u.s history in a minor in american political theory a master's degree in school leadership from harvard uh and i'm a united states marine from a marine and a veteran of the gulf war i i've worked for 20 years as a teacher and a school principal and i know that we all want to create a society where all citizens are equal for the law we want to teach these are these values to our children but critical race theory takes social studies and civic education in the wrong direction for that goal when i

teach u.s history i encourage my students to think of martin luther king as a founding father he was just two centuries later i teach my students to create and argue a thesis and i give them examples including a thesis of martin luther king's i have a dream speech is the greatest statement of american political philosophy above the gettysburg address and even the declaration of independence dr king's vision of that of an american society where we judge each other by the content of our character and not the color of our skin king sees the ideals of the declaration of independence as a promissory note for all americans critical race theory is a direct opposition to martin luther king's vision and the vision of the united states of america i see that my time is up in

closing i encourage you to learn about the philosophical origins of critical race theory and its cousin the philosophy of deconstructionism and i think if you do kind of the same inclusion that i do that we have a wolf in sheep's clothing here please do not that let that wolf into our social studies curriculum thank you thank you gail sears and rebecca khali hi can you do me a favor can you just take your mask down for one minute please uh we're we're we're still operating with the guidelines that maths are required on school property it offends me do you realize that it offends me and i think it offends the kids because they are not seeing their uh teachers faces and how much more important it is to see this and how much more it

impacts their psychology you are doing irreparable harm to these kids that you cover their faces and they are fearful of other people and they are fearful of adults i literally have had parents come up to me in church where i have not worn a mask and said my child will not come to church because you don't wear a mask what are we teaching our children we are you are supposed to be doing the highest level of education and you are creating the lowest level of fear and disunity for these kids it's so sad please unmask these kids and don't give me the excuse well we're gonna unmask them on june 15th you have still done bad harm to them in that time thank you thank you rebecca cauley and then amanda moxley and again i

apologize if i mispronounced names hi rebecca cauley also known as nana to 17 grandchildren i've served on the pta have been a room mom many times nominated an incredible sunrise teacher of the year and then stayed to celebrate with her and the entire school on receiving that great honor today i bring two things i'll leave with your secretary test to play test to stay pcr testing swabs they are made of nylon rayon and polyester fibers they are sanitized in ethylene oxide the national cancer institute and osha consider ethylene oxide to be a dangerous chemical that can cause cancer affects dna and can have long-term reproductive effects it can be found in cigarette smoke and pesticides obviously both associated with widespread cancers why in the world would we require now or in the future our children

to have these carcinogenic sticks stuck up their noses i'll leave this exhibit with you but please remember 195 was signed and passed into law honor it today this bill limits unelected health departments from making unilateral health decisions for my grandchildren and my children thank you [Applause] amanda moxley and then adam desousa hi everyone thanks for having me i appreciate all that you're doing how many years have you been doing this and this has been a tough year for everyone and no doubt and i'm a parent and i'm also a business owner and i have a master's in social work so i'm here i'm a parent and um like all these amazing people i've shared before i have a deep deep concern about a couple of things including the masks i love all those stats that

she shared um i really believe from a social work perspective and i'm sure if you guys understand like the mental emotional uh situation these kids are facing to not be able to see their their teachers faces not to be able to emote what's going on we have these uh neuro micro neural sun things that we look at when we're looking at faces like looking at you guys right now i'm like they hate me you know like it's and it's intimidating um my daughter has been they've said to her that she might get suspended at her recess for pulling down her mask she's only in third grade she can't breathe and then when she did have coveted which they of course were healed from immediately um she couldn't go back to school for three weeks so

my daughter missed out of school for actually three weeks plus two more weeks and now she's completely behind and at a second grade reading level and so what not to mention all last year so i'm also really concerned that you guys are saying that we can't go into the school because we are not getting vaccinated ourselves i think that any able adult could get vaccinated if they choose to and that's great but i think we're all responsible for our own health we have our breath we have oxygen we you know honestly we're gonna be okay if we just eat vegetables and breathe and have some exercise so um that's those are my concerns and i'm hoping like aren't you guys ready to take these masks off or no you're not you can't say like it's

so weird i'm like i like you thank you for smiling at me makes me feel better the co-dependent part but um is that beep for me okay so the point is can you guys can we take off these masks tomorrow or even right now okay thank you thank you for your comments adam does desousa and i'm sorry please correct me if i mispronounce that and then um senator kathleen rieby no that's correct my name is adam d'souza i have two children that attend lone peak elementary and as well as a young adult that uh with special needs that attends transitions academy i want to give my support and thanks to the school board for all the precautions and policies that were implemented in response to the covet 19 pandemic those decisions including providing a choice

of channels as well as all the all the safety measures put in place have obviously worked incredibly well we did not see our schools become areas of high transmission and now more and more children including my own can return to school in-person learning with parents feeling safe i know the decisions weren't easy to make but when you see the results of the decisions kids being educated teachers and school workers feeling safe and parents and families not worrying then you were right where we got is a good place and we got there because of your policies so thank you thank you okay next is senator kathleen rieby thank you so much for having me here today i've picked a great day to be here uh thank you for your service it's really been a hard year

for all of us i'm a senator for senate district 8 but i'm also a school teacher in granite district and i have two kids that attend our local schools uh thank you to all the teachers it's teacher appreciation week it's been a really hard year they have risen to every occasion hybrid in person online everything that they could possibly ask to do they did this year i came here to emphasize how education is the grease and glue of our communities and our partnerships with our cities and towns have steadied our economy during this tumultuous time our state budget for education is 8.4 billion dollars and 47 percent of that goes to education canyon school district is the 12th largest employer in salt lake county and it's the 18th largest employer in this state of utah

so we spend a lot of money on education but we also give back to our communities i'm on a lot of committees at the senate and all of them are education and i won't read them all but i want to tell you that we had some successes this year with our house bill 323 that had high incentives for high poverty kids we had um sb 131 which we ended because it was telling our local districts how to um spend money on our buildings and we didn't want that and then also we put some guardrails about hb107 so those are just three that i'd like to highlight um i'd like to give a shout out to amber schill and nancy tangi you guys were up there all the time you were great faces to see in

every committee so i really appreciated that susan edwards and charlie evans on your um government ops liaison they were phenomenal they were on speed dial the whole entire time and i'm gonna end with may the fourth be with you so thank you for your service and thanks to all the teachers out there and enjoy your celebration of teacher of the year thank you thank you i appreciate that okay that that concludes all those that have signed up oh oh missing my son's football meeting to be here so i have to okay will you please you've um state your name lenny larson okay larson children in the canyon school district high school middle school elementary and um i have 10 pages of notes i don't think i'm going to get through this tonight but i would

like these in the minutes um please hand them to the secretary when you're finished so um two weeks to slow the spread that's what we heard over a year ago 417 days ago there's not been a day that i haven't done research i know my facts i've tried emailing calling i don't know how many hours i've spent on my life away from my kids to call my governor to call my senators to call you to call my principal my teachers tell them what i found out it should be exciting news that buzzer's gonna have to just turn off for a minute i have to say something here okay i have spent hours of my life trying to figure out what is going on here and what i found out it's in my notes here there's

so much information that a lot of people don't know why the pcr testers the readings are wrong okay we all know that by now we've had over a year to figure this out why kids aren't spreading this but yet we're keeping them in mass it's it's it's bad on their health you know this why aren't you advocating for our kids one okay okay if you're 85 plus yes covert is very scary if you're under the age of 85 you're more likely to die of the flu children are not dying of cold but they're not spreading permanent as we thought a year ago 417 days ago we didn't know what we were dealing with we know now it should be exciting for all of us that life can go on if my mother-in-law had stage two

cancer and she was in very critical condition we took care of her we didn't quarantine the world for her we took care of grandma as we always have done in the history of american life we take care of the elderly the sick media we do larson can you please wrap it up thank you so i want to say one thing i've taught my boys i've got four in life there's three types of people in this world there's wolves they're the bullies never be a bully there's the sheep they follow they they're they're vulnerable they can't take care of themselves and then there's the sheepdog my boys stand up for kids that are weaker regardless of color race origin anything they stand up for the weaker kid i am their protector my kids are my little

sheep they go to school and your protection you are supposed to be advocating for my kids when we send you data and facts about the health the risk go to the health department advocate for us you have that power you have that power how many of you have kids at home i would like to see hands how many of you have kids at home i'm adam and we're past her time okay i'm here to protect my kids and i will keep fighting for them and i will keep calling and emailing and i will keep getting parents involved to do the same we're here for our kids thank you thank you [Applause] okay thank you all we we appreciate the comments that have been shared with the board this evening and um we appreciate the time

you've taken here to to be here with us and to listen in online with us um the board does accept written comments and um if you're here you can submit them to the secretary or email them the instructions are on the agenda for that and if there are any um specific questions that that you have the district staff will contact you via email in the next couple of days to answer any specific questions that might have come up so so with that can that will conclude our patron comments for this evening and um we will move on to the next item on our agenda which is the consent agenda and i will ask for a motion for the to approve the consent agenda items and in making that motion please read each of the individual

items i will make a motion to approve the consent agenda of the following items approval of minutes from april 20th 2021 approval of higher and termination reports approval purchasing bids approval of student overnight travel approval of 2022 2023 board meeting schedule approval of canyons online and high school credit recovery curriculum approval of high school social emotional learning curriculum approval of policy updates required by legislation policy 500.34 immunizations policy 500.35 student attendance and approval administrative appointments thank you is there a second to that motion i'll say also thank you i have a motion in a second any discussion to the motion okay seen none i will call for a vote all in favor of the motion please say i i any opposed all right that motion passes thank you um next item is item 6a in

new business and this will be the 2021-2022 budget review this is a first reading and i'll turn the time over to mr leon wilcox business administrator thank you president tingey and members of the board uh because of our time but the teacher of the year i'm gonna get through this very quickly if you have any questions you can may have a moment after or not you can give me an email or call and we can discuss this in further uh just some quick highlights on our general fund we're in negotiations we won't talk much about this but thank you to senator ruby and our other legislators so six percent wpu increase this year uh you can see we got an increase in our tssa funding of nearly a million dollars also an increase in land

trust but not nearly as much also increases in transportation other and other funding one thing we'll keep an eye on as we go forward is they're at risk what we call wpu add-on we'll get the same amount next year as we got this year but we do expect bigger increases uh due to this add-on and how the legislature intends to fund this and add more money to that so we'll watch that in future years i want to give you a quick update on the cares or essers money that we have received and the state has received and how we will intend to spend that in the time frame uh you remember when the pandemic hit last march there what they issued sr1 or cares that was 68 million dollars we got about 2.4 sr2 came

uh in late december you can see the amounts there and of course uh congress and the president just passed nestor three and you can see the amount there and our amount has not yet been determined but we do have until september of 2024 to spend all those funds additionally this year you can see other amounts we received from the county which we appreciative and also from the governor's office the relief fund uh here's our esther spend plan starting next year i mean this year the sr ones funds will be spent and those on the previous slide uh mainly on the nfcra act and uh ppe and other technology needs that we've that you've approved this year starting next year esther 2 money we're going to focus on mainly our online school okay and you've heard

presentations from amber and dr robbins on that i've also had social workers and nurses we're going to interventions or additional teachers to reduce our class size to improve our learning loss to recover that we're going to put more into field techs with all the technology we have out there and then summer programs that we've talked about and more technology we do intend to use our sr3 money again the one that was just passed for the next two years after this one pretty much for the same same initiatives there as we move forward of course there will be adjustments and revisions as we move forward and just a quick update on that we want to move for on to our other funds here and we'll come back to our general fund next week i mean in

two weeks with more information there but uh talk about our capital projects uh the big ones are our high schools again finishing up those three high schools that we've been going on for about four years now alta brighton again uh brighton main thing that well let me just back up to although the main thing there is the gym that's being refinished now that probably will not be ready when school starts but we're looking at middle of september for that to come online but we should be out of there with everything done by september we're excited about that brighton we're finishing up the three-story classroom wing then we'll have to demo that building when this school year ends out put in the new park parking lot keep in mind we'll still have workers on site at

all these uh brighton and hillcrest for the rest of this calendar year doing what we call punch list items and uh you know repairing making sure the doors lock and there's any tile that needs to replace or something of that nature kind of the same thing at hillcrest same timeline of course there we have to the baseball softball and soccer fields so that would be done next summer okay and then we've talked about union you've just approving the contract on that and then our two elementary schools which will be coming up through if you've driven by peruvian park or edgemont soon to be glacier hills you'll see that they're on the ground we've demoed those buildings and starting to haul off that we should be done hauling all that off by the end of this

month and then we'll start with the foundations moving on as we know those will be funded primarily from lease revenue bonds we'll have our we intend to have our first here i mean reading on that at our next board meeting with a public hearing that is required at the june 8th meeting following and then we'll issue those bonds expected of those bonds in july okay uh we're going to alter here in a few minutes i want to just give you some before and after pictures okay if you remember that is the commons area of the cafeteria right that's how it looked a couple years ago again another picture right here and you can see this is how it looks today i hope you can take a couple minutes we'll be going into the auditorium which

is beautiful but i hope you can take a couple minutes walk in the main building there and see this okay you're standing right the person taking the picture is telling about the same spot as in both these two pictures here and you can see the improvement so thank you on behalf of the alta community for funding this and making just that whole transformation of that building so i hope you could take a couple minutes of walking inside there and see that uh here's some smaller capital projects uh you've proved a couple of these others will be coming to you in the uh at our next meeting i'm not going to go through all those because we went through those back in december when we went over in 10 ones the one addition is the very

bottom one we would like because we were under budget on the playgrounds we decided not to move a playground down to the crescent view building and also the irrigation for granite came in cheaper than we expected we'd like to to do some improvements at the jordan valley parking lot that will take we'll probably look at a two or three year phase in that this initial one we expect to be about 300 000 we want to look at removing those old ramps there because all our buses have lifts now so we don't need those wraps and we'd like to remove those and do other concrete work there we're going to move on to another fund now another bucket that is our debt fund this is one that i'm very you know it's been a long time

coming for me 13 years okay this is our old jordan debt you can see this is the top line there's how much we all have had to pay on that total for the 13 years this next coming year will be the last year we pay on that debt so property tax on property owners will see this tax line on their statement that they get in july but that will be the last year so over the 13 years we will paid nearly 212 million dollars this year you can see how much we do well i say this year next year you can see how much we do okay there's our total debt summary right now we uh at the end of this year we will owe you know a substantial amount nearly 458 million dollars so

we've done a lot but we've had to incur this debt to do that you can see the match will oh at the end of next year as we move forward i always like to look at that graphs not so much numbers but lots of people like to look at graphically again the red is the old jordan debt so we'll make a payment this year which we still owe for 21 but 22 will be the last year there on that then you can see we'd be paying making uh a pretty good dent in our that that we issued in 2010 and as well as our the bond that passed in 2017. okay uh let's move on to another bucket or nutrition services fund uh i said uh last meeting that the usda has announced they would

extend the universal free lunch waiver through next school year we just received an email today that the state has accepted that waiver they will require districts to do certain things to comply so we'll have more information coming with you on that but it is our intention to you know comply with this of course for the next upcoming year uh and as we put together our book book you can you will have as we always do we have columns for the last three years 18 19 and 20. the final budget for 21 and what we expect for 22 so you can see a little bit of a trend history as we move forward uh district activities again will be a nice one to look forward at that trend you can see how much you approved the

fee schedule and how much we expect to collect in fees and fundraisers and emissions i'll have to say we put our fundraisers a little bit higher because we are expecting something from zach wilson on behalf of coroner king we'll just leave it at that uh the last one last slide we have is what we call our pass-through taxes fund this is the cda uh cda's that you've approved so last this current year we passed through 11 million dollars to the agencies we expect that to be a little higher next year as the jordan bluffs and the draper city front runner continue to grow and also on the tax line there's a line on everyone's tax notice that says utah charter schools on canyons for those students who attend a charter school and kenya school district

that was 1.8 million dollars this year we expect that to be about the same movie for the next year as well with that got through that fairly quickly uh we may have a moment for questions president tinker the board can email me or call me if there's any questions but we'll be bringing this back at the board information back next meeting yes this is a first reading and it begins our budget adoption process um board do you have any comments or questions on this i i just want to say when i saw that slide about the retiring the debt service for the old jordan debt i have a big yay on my notes um that's been a long time coming and and we're we're very much looking forward to that day and then also just

a question and maybe you can clarify on the pass through the portion about from the um from the uh um redevelopment and the those agencies even though even though the number that we're passing through goes up we we do retain a share of that increase in valuation does come to the district so that would be increasing as well correct absolutely correct so for instance uh we got our first email from the jordan plus they triggered that you know even though they kept some 80 based on an agreement the old jordan school district did we still got 20 20 back which is a pretty substantial amount for this last tax year which was in of course tax or 2020 so all these as they grow up i mean expand and grow we do get our proportional

share of we've agreed to yes great thank you for clarifying that anything else board on this item we will look forward to uh probably a more detailed look at what what some of those um funds and and budget proposals will be try to bring back property tax information at the next meeting great thank you appreciate that okay um next item 6b policy update for several policies and we'll let mr jeff christensen review those but while he's getting settled up at the podium i'd like to recognize sean newell is here who is our former representative on the state board of education and we appreciate your being here with us thank you mr christensen thank you president on the slides you have the policy update that was presented at our previous board meeting for a first reading

this evening we have four policies two in the student section and two in the instruction section the policy committee is reviewed and recommended updates for the first is the student club policy and we aligned uh some languages in the policy for alignment with the state statute for the employees that help govern or monitor our student clubs and then also the board recommended adding some additional language at the beginning of the policy as they make applications for student clubs the majority of the provisions remain the same other than we added some statutory language for non-curricular clubs the other policies protection for athletes and student head injuries we just did a minor addition for the utah high school activities association's emerging sports policy which wasn't governed uh which we didn't have in there previously to allow our

protections for head injuries to also apply for those emerging sports and then our in our instruction section we've added both a diploma as well as a credential for students that are special education students and the exhibits and the policies outline those additions consistent with state law all of these policies this evening are for second reading possible action i can answer any questions thank you jeff any questions board as he as he said they are for second reading possible actions so emotion would be in order if there's a motion i'd like to make a motion to go ahead and improve these policy changes updates okay and i will read them all thank you policy update 5.4 2021 alternate diploma policy career development credential redline policy 500.2 for student clubs red line policy 500.27 for athlete and

student head injuries redline policy 600.1 for graduation requirements and redline policy 600.14 work based learning okay did we get them all yes all right thank you mrs neibauer is there a second to the motion i'll suck it up thank you now i will ask if there's any discussion to the motion scene then i will call for a vote all in favor say i any opposed thank you all right that motion passes thank you yeah this this time of year the policy committee and the board is busy looking at policy much of which is due to different changes at the state level so we appreciate that next is item six c which is distribute 2021 2022 land trust and tssa plans to the board of education i will turn the time over to alice peck school

performance good evening board it is that time of the year again earlier this afternoon i sent you an email that included a link to google docs including all of next year's land trust and tssp plans um every year the board is um asked to approve those plans and so in addition we also have included a youtube video that carson fairborne created last year to kind of walk you through the process i am available to answer any questions you might have over the next few weeks and happy to go over any questions um any comments you want to make and have me share back with the schools and the secs i'm happy to do that we are asking hopefully by the next board meeting on the 18th um to be in a position for you to

uh approve those plans if you didn't they're okay just so we can get those to the state in a timely manner so with that um just want to double check to make sure you got the email and to see if you have any questions for me thank you mr wrigley has a question i don't remember an email if you gave us the timelines that you wanted those back or did i not read that yes in fact um between now and our next board meeting on the 18th um we were hoping to have uh you look over those and any questions you might have i'd be able to address between now and then so that you would be in a position on the 18th um so kind you give us two weeks thank you oh i

wish it could be more and any other questions mr miller just you know i do appreciate you getting those out to us but i would just like to reiterate things we've talked about before don't send me an email at three o'clock and expect me to get through it before board meeting i can't do that and i would really appreciate it as the district administration sends out things and i know you're under the gun we've got to get it out for board meeting getting it that late in the day does not help us be ready for board meeting i will take action i don't alice i don't mean to hammer you i get that it's just that uh blanket statement overall that's just where i'm at and i appreciate that mom i do want to let

you know that we had some serious glitches in the state website this year and as of about 30 minutes before i sent that email to you my wonderful assistant margie was working tirelessly with them to try to get through some of those glitches i will make sure next year we get that to you in a much timelier fashion my apologies a year's advanced warning right yes you're you're correct thank you other comments mrs nybar i just wanted to thank alice for her time and effort with this as well as her assistants and i was able to have their pleasure privilege of meeting with her and susan and talking a little bit more about the land trust and sure appreciate all the time you spent with me and for the great level of organization this is

i know that it is a time crunch getting it from the schools and getting it to us and so thank you for your work on that thank you and and board i'll just um remind remind us of the process that we go through so we do receive these um officially now we've received them as of this board meeting and and we will have a couple of weeks to review them and we um place our signatures on the plans that we that we feel are ready to be approved and move on and then um and then if we have any questions or pieces of the in within those plans as we read them then we contact alice and she will help us work through them and sometimes um making those um comments sometimes it's just very

simple and sometimes it will take a little bit of work so so if you know if we could give them a little bit of time before the next meeting to work through some of those things that would be good but if we cannot and i recognize and there have been times when we cannot there are things that we need to still work through and board members need to have adequate time to review them so the way we've we've done it is um at the next board meeting we will have on the agenda the consent agenda an item to approve all of the land trust and tssa plans which have received two board member signatures so each school plan goes to two board members and once a plan has received the two board members signatures then

the board will go ahead and approve that plan as per action at our next board meeting but if there are any remaining plans that have not yet received two signatures then they will continue to be worked on and will be approved at a later time right did i summarize that you've got it okay absolutely all right board any questions about the process all right well i'll just say happy reading everyone these these plans are are amazing and i just want to also thank the school community councils and and the um people at the school as well as allison and your department and and susan edwards i know helps a lot in this process so a lot of work but you know what a lot of good things come from from this work so thank you

thank you okay um next is item 6d which will be an update on the strategic planning process and i'll turn the time over to superintendent rick robbins thank you president i'll be brief as i've noted in the update we're excited to have ed elements and shelby back in the district on may 11th and will begin the process of organizing dates and times um and the framework uh going forward so in that meeting would be included president team myself uh charlie evans bob dowdle and amber roderick along with shelby and their team so we'll have a comprehensive update on the 18th uh with more details on that so yeah just wanted to let you know that's moving forward with next steps so okay thank you superintendent board any questions about that no any comments or questions

i i will say that yeah this is just the beginning of a very extensive process and i just want to state on the record that the board is very anxious and wanting to be involved and engaged as well as you know the community outreach it's going to be it's going to be a pretty amazing year and a pretty pretty amazing effort so any other comments or thoughts on that thank you okay thank you superintendent all right board next is next is um on the agenda is we will now um adjourn and travel to alta high school for the teacher of the year recognition which we will begin at 7 30 and invite the board to travel and we'll reconvene and look for uh jeff haney who will give us some instructions when we get there

so with that if there's nothing else anything else all right i will call the meeting adjourned thank you
