the proclamation um for our board so whereas I hope I could read this I don't have my glasses and it's very tiny I didn't expect to read this all right whereas the mission of the public schools is to meet the diverse educational needs of all children and to empower them to become competent productive contributors to a Democratic Society and an everchanging world and whereas local Schoolboard members are committed to children and believe that all children can be successful Learners and that the best education is tailored to the individual needs of the child and whereas local school board members work closely with parents educational professionals and other community members to create the educational Vision we want for our students and whereas local school board members are responsible for ensuring the structure that provides a solid foundation

for our school systems and whereas local Bo school board members are strong advocates for public education and are responsible for communicating the needs of the school district to the public and the Public's expectations to the district now therefore we Andrea cico superintendent and Miss Christy stoy treasurer do hereby declare our appreciation to the members of The kayaga Falls School Board and proclaim the month of January uh 2024 at Schoolboard recognition month in the city of kayaga Falls and the village of Silver Lake all citizens join us in recognizing the dedication and hard work of local school boards and in working with them to mold an educational system that meets the needs of both today's and tomorrow's children they're all very humble and they get embarrassed like I know right now they're all squirming inside they

just won't they just don't want to show it but they don't they they really do this not for the recognition but for our children and that's what's amazing about them all right I have certificates for you okay and then I think what we'll do is we'll give them their special award and then we will finish did I give that WR okay I will give them their special you're going to love your surprise um so we're going to start um with that and so um we have from we we recruited some of our students I see to help us um but Mrs uh Hutchinson is from Silver Lake and she teaches second grade and um I was in Mr doa's office uh last year and I was talking with him just meeting with him and I

news and so when we're able to do so it's just even all that more special um Bor I don't know if give you an opportunity if there's anything any of you would like to say usually it's the other way around so I'm gonna pull this on you guys I'll defer to the board President we ready to take pictures Well I thank you for letting us serve we love this community grew up here most of us part of it and we just it's an honor for for all of us to serve thank you you're here good that's good thank you thank you all okay I'll let you off the hook all right I'll probably get in trouble later but that's okay oh and it's right in time for my evaluation great it's okay all right so

what I'd like to do at this time is um have our students and um if we can get the students to go maybe first so we can get them all lined up and then just shortly after families you can head over just right across the way um and will let you of course take pictures as well so thank you again appreciate seeing all of you this evening um yes take everything with you yep okay we are ready for presentation number four the Kaa Falls High School program of studies for 2024 2025 we have Mrs DS and Mr Smith president coko or president Gomez uh vice president coko thank you for having us here tonight um Mr Smith and I uh have gone through our program of studies and we have some recommended courses to remove

and then some additions and then just some things that we wanted to fill you in on um so the additions that we would like to make we have an engineering design one and two course as you're aware and um Mr Gregory would like to add there's a CCP option so students um are able to take it depends on the university in this case it's dark State and so we are allowed to have students in CCP and students who are not in CCP in the same classroom so students could choose to take this course for CCP credit it's actually a an online course but then he would be there to help help with questions and facilitate and that sort of thing so it's kind of the best of the Both Worlds for students who want to

take that um and you can see that description on page 43 um making modern music too again last year or this current year we added making modern music One we'd love to add another semester of that American Sign Language 2 when we added American Sign Lang language this year we were pretty sure it was going to be popular um we had no idea though that our new ASL teacher would actually be teaching all day long because it was that popular so we would like to add the second level and um Mr Smith and I met with him and um he just very exuberant teacher very um knowledgeable about what he does and he came to us and said hey can we offer this for CCP because students can also earn it's um a certificate that

Stark State offers so the four courses you see there introduction to De culture and community that that is the first so it's really teaching students about exactly what it says like what is it like what do we offer in our culture which is not nearly enough probably um for people who are death and then the Student Success seminar is just a one credit thing that Stark State requires as you're a firsttime CCP person so we thought we could put those together in a semester because obviously our students come five days a week when they're taking it here and then versus a three-day week thing you know at a university and then we would offer ASL one asl2 for CCP and asl3 for CCP and so um we did have um have the teacher survey his

students to see who would be interested in getting the CCP option and so we will work with those students if they want to add the CCP um we're still figuring out the the logistics of that but those are the only additions that we're suggesting do you have any questions about those I have a question about the CCP for ASL always support um CCP um opportunities for our students um are those semester classes when they're taking them as a CCP okay that makes more sense then we do them as a year and they're like in house okay that helps me understand that and our goal would be that students would take that intro course in the fall asl1 in the spring and then the following year they would take the other two and again if they

take all four they they can earn and we have recognized students at the board meeting previously for a technology one with Mr Johnson so this is a very similar certificate and it's something they could take to a potential employer and say you know what I have this ability that other people might not have it might give them an edge in hiring sort of thing so um so we were excited about that any other questions about our addition so if they took ASL one this year could they take ASL 2 as a CCP class in the fall or not I believe they can Stark State actually just made a change so we were waiting for board approval which I know isn't taking place tonight it won't take place for a few weeks but um once we

have that confirmed then we'll reach out to Stark State and see but that would be our ideal is that they can move into that into that course or we can try and work something else out for those students awesome YK you and the content uh Mr mcy Mr McCarthy said is very like it's pretty much the same it's not like a huge leap to go from what he would already be teaching to that CCP so um other changes that we made in the program of studies we changed from the Ohio Department of Education to the Department of Education Workforce which they finally updated their website this week I noticed so go them um we have placed we had the video introductions as you remember and uh Mr Smith came up with an awesome template and

he asked all of the Departments to create um templates and I apologize I probably should have printed those for you as well but they are linked in in the online um and basically do you want to share what's on there yeah really quickly a lot of it is highlights of the department and information that is kind of specific to each department as pertains to graduation career path ways that people might be interested within the department um so we just kind of updated that a little bit and we really wanted to make it like almost like a flyer that is something that we can then include with giving out to families on maybe orientation night um but just another way to really promote the uh the things that each department has to offer so and versus

the videos where we would be redoing them because a teacher left or they switched you know like Miss Bloom has been in the English department now she's been welding you know like all of those changes this is something Mr Smith created in canas we can easily update it and then whatever our family clicks on is the most most recent information so um if you have not clicked on them yet I think you'll really like them really Shar uh we did add our fees back to the program of studies knowing that our Sr funds are um running out and um we have been in discussion Mrs hman and um Dr celico and then Mrs stoy about exactly how that will be shared with families um in addition to the fees of course we have a specific

breakdown that you approve um you know showing how those fees how they came up with those fees you know they didn't just pull it out of the a sort of thing so that would will still be coming in the spring as it has in the past if I just add to that we had a really long discussion about this at our agenda review on this about um how to handle that because we know there may be some we're going to make sure that we use every penny of our Esser funds because that's the most responsible usage of that funds for our community and so we're not going to leave a penny unspent we also know that we have to have it all spent um by September 30th yes of this year so we're kind of

in flux because we have a commitment um to the federal government in terms of the plan that we have put in place and what we're going to spend it on we also know that that things might not cost as much as we have planned so we felt the consensus at that time and what what had been proposed is the most transparent way to do this is to allow people to know that these are what the course material fees are and then as we go forward we're going to continue to assess where that's at because we don't want we don't want to discourage anyone from taking a class because of the cause but at the same time we don't want to tell people to have the idea that it's going to be free when we can't

make that commitment so it's kind of inlux right now where we don't know how far these err funds are going to go we don't know that we can't necessarily sit today and make a commitment that we're going to be able to cover everything next year we think that we might be able to cover some and then we have to figure out how that works in terms of Sesser guidance um to make sure that we're compliant with their rules and how if there's some money how that gets spread out um legally and in a compliant way so with the resolution that M doyo usually proposes um and the past to wave them what that would look like going forward if there's some money to the board um that's what they're kind of having further conversations about

what is there any surplus of these materials um who schedules for what classes and then what additional user funds might still be left on the table that we could go to this to try to ease our families into paying fees for this new year so I just wanted to add that because we had a lot of conversation about this um at our agenda review as well and we're conscious of the fact that our families are now a little bit used to not paying for fees and so if there's a way to use some of this eser money to ease them back into that because we don't want to burden our families and to take away academic opportunities from students because of money as well so just just layering another piece onto that thank you and

one thing you might have noticed so a couple of our CCP courses or excuse me our AP courses have fees um in addition to the AP fee so that is that's actually why we went to the to we changed it to say course material fee instead of just fee to help differentiate that for the past few years we have been able to use title four funds and we have paid for every student who wanted to take an AP test we have paid that larger fee and so we'll be working with Mr aler again this year to see if that's a possibility obviously part of that depends on how much the government drops in but it's definitely something we'll try to continue to do one of the ways one of the things to do with title

four funds is to help provide for enrichment and more opportunities for students so we will definitely um see if we can get that in the budget as well um the oh we added the uh another idea for Mr Smith we added the AP course syllabus in where with each of the course descriptions for our advanced placement courses we had a few students this year year I don't know if it's happened before but we know they they didn't really understand what AP meant um some of them thought like it was more of unapplied like something for that was not as time intensive but needless to say advanced placement courses are extremely time intensive so we thought that would be a good look all any instructor who teaches AP has to submit a syllabus to the College

Board for approval to make sure that it meets so these are not the exact but they are what the teachers use to model the syllabus that they submit so that's there for anyone to see as well um the English chart we Revis just to make sure that students and families understood these are the ones you have to take these are our mandatory and then here are all the different electives our family and consumer science courses we're doing a rotation with those um so that the one reason is so that the student the teachers aren't teaching six preps a year um and the other reason is just to help our students take things in a more logical order so there are two courses that we've removed just for this year and two courses that we're bringing

back just for this year and then we'll just keep rotating those um the next one on your list the data science foundations is actually called introduction to data science so we just made that quick change we removed the suggested math Pathways chart we had probably a 45 minute conversation about it our math department chair made a new flowchart of suggested um math courses but we know know what all the math courses are at the high school and we were having trouble understanding it and so we we you know decided as a team that if if we can't understand it and we know what they all are how is that going to work for our family or a students so um we're going to work throughout the fall next year and work on that get some

student input maybe get some parent input and then you know consider putting that back in we talked about just putting in a link and doing that for several Department not just for math but kind of like here's the suggested pathway if you took algebra as an eighth grader you would take this this and this these are your options these are the required similar to that English chart so um you can still see the chart of all the courses we offer but the pathways chart the one we had in there I was in there when I started this position nine or 10 years ago and so that was not very clear either so we just took both of those and we wanted to keep things as consistent as possible throughout the entire program studies so that

was uh a little bit of an outlier compared to the other departments uh several years ago we split our zoology into a zoology of invertebrates and zoology of vertebrates but the science department felt that that was just not working for them so we just put that back together as one yearlong course instead of two different semesters and then the last thing Mr Smith is going to talk about courses that we would like to remove from the program of studies and he'll tell you the process they used in reasoning yeah that came out a discussion with the Department chairs a lot of that is some of those courses have just been on the books for a very long time and we just have not had students sign up for and some of them have gone years

without um us ever running them because again some of them are maybe a little bit Antiquated um or we've created new courses that align a little bit better with kind of as as we've you know migrated through uh different standards and uh different graduation requirements and obviously the focus from the state slightly U evolving over time as well so the department chairs went through and they actually kind of uh looked at the historic numbers for these courses and really if it hasn't run in the last three years um and they were comfortable with saying you know what that you we don't really want these on the books anymore then we were comfortable with taking that off so the ones that were suggested if you look at uh the first one English um so there was

an English language arts 12 technical writing course again that hasn't run at least for three years literature through film science fiction and writing through video games one and two so again those are courses that were designed a few years ago but we just haven't had any interest based on some of the new um courses and and you know for whatever other reasons for math there was introduction to college algebra that was a semester class um I think I taught a section of that 11 years ago and that may have been the last time that that one was offered so we still have a college algebra through the of a that Mr K teaches so we're not getting rid of an option for college algebra just that one that isn't and that one is is actually

pretty well uh attended so we we've run multiple sections of that over the last few years in science animal behavior introduction of public health issues and worldw crisis um social studies we have AP European History America through media culture Humanities and famous historical figures and then finally in the world language Department all of our uh French courses were removed crosscultural Communications and Latin the language of medicine um those are all we are requesting that they are removed from the program of studies and then one note for the French so we do have about seven students in French three and seven or eight students in French too so we've been working Stark State and Kent State both have French options so we're going to work um like have a counselor maybe go into those French classes

and talk to the students about the possibility of taking those through CCP if they want to continue we had a question today about you know well what if I want to earn the honors diploma and I'm only through French two well student could do that by taking CCP or they could take two languages for two years so they could switch to Latin they could switch to Spanish they could switch to American Sign Language so we we didn't want to take opportunities away but also our teacher is planning on retiring and um the numbers just aren't where we would really like them to be so for the science and Social Studies classes are those all classes too that haven't ran in the past three years or are there different reasons that those are okay so yeah

and a lot of them when in talk with the Department chairs they almost want to consolidate a little bit too because we would run a lot of like one section of this one section of that there might be eight students in here and seven students in here they really wanted to consolidate that too to have like you know a a good amount of students in those classrooms as that is good practice um because that allows for a number of different instructional models that you can do when you have 15 to 25 students in the class as opposed to five to eight also when students because we have that student driven schedule which um you know was presented to you a couple of years ago they were almost competing against themselves within their own department so

then if I if three of us chose this class and four of of them chose that class we couldn't make it work for those seven kids but then they they were kind of stuck with their second choice or third choice so now it's kind of limiting the options so they're not competing against themselves and then for French are we eliminating that because the teachers retiring the numbers have been down um and then uh Miss Bogden and I had actually talked to um the department chair a few years ago and she and I pulled all the numbers and we talked to area schools and we just determined because the numbers were so low and we did know also that the teacher was planning on retiring but because the numbers were so low the Latin teacher had

proposed a couple of other courses so for example last year you approved the um Cradle de grave um which is like a mythology and folklore course so she's teaching that in addition to her Latin courses and so we um even though they were kind of similarly um in enrolled there were still you know a little more and she was willing to try different things to try and continue to grab students and my big concern with the French is that that the commitment we made to the students when we added ASL last year one of the commitments we made with to students is that we would phase out French for those students and keep those opportunities in that we would like eliminate French one then eliminate French two and then eliminate French three that's what we

were told as a board and that's why we approved that we were excited about ASL but also keeping up the commitment to the students that had chosen to be on that path way so I'm just I want to make a student first decision and I'm a little worried that we're not that part of this is not in the best interest of all of our students yeah I understand I apologize I if I communicated that last year that wasn't my intent um so again so we don't have any students in French one this year so in in terms of the phasing out so we're just we're at the students who would be French three and four which would be a natural CCP anyway that's we have for our Spanish we have the elementary Spanish for juniors

and um intermediate Spanish for seniors um and so that's why we would like to offer that um this year Mrs clear's teaching only three periods she's doing she's working the rest of the day she's doing student assistant perod and things like that but um we just really don't have enough students to continue it now if you would like us to we could look into I know in the past um some other area to like have students zoom in to a teacher in another District but French has been kind of phasing out various places but I'd be happy to look into that and and we can see that if you would like us to try that instead of the CCP um you know just let us know you can think about it and email Mr House

let us know you'd like us to take that step how do our language offerings compare to other area districts as far as what they're actually very similar so that was the some of the data we pulled we looked at the Compact and then some so each month I go to a curriculum director's meeting and um there's like 35 of us in the room we kind of feed those questions off each other and so um they they are very similar there are other districts that offer Mandarin which is something that obviously we don't offer um the Spanish enrollment is down just slightly but when I reached out to local people they said that will even out it it for most districts it takes two to three years for that to even out some students take ASL

because it doesn't seem as hard as another language but in fact it is not easy to learn so um they said what they've seen in their district is that um it just tends to go like I said even out said that four times and which of our CCP programs offer French again um I believe it's Kent and Stark I know k for sure I know c those yeah so Mr Smith and I did look at that because we wanted to make sure we had something to offer did I didn't want I wanted him to finish his thought before I no um on the ASL is there plant all right let me take a St back so the ASL one is a one semester class or it's a full year so that's where we have to

work out the actual Logistics because this year it's a full year but if if I'm understanding what Stark sent us correctly then students who take our ASL could actually then go in get credit for the CCP course or go into that so once we have your approval in a few weeks this assuming approval then then we'll work out the logistics of that and we did have that discussion with Mr McCarthy just trying to you know what would that look like um we obviously are hoping to hire a second teacher because he's teaching all day and we want to add these other options um he did already status so we know he's good to go on that but I can't tell you right now exactly what it would look like if we would cond it to

a semester or or what so there could be possibly an ASL one that's a full semester and an ASL one that's a I mean that's a full year and then ASL one that's a one semester CCP that that's a possibility if if what I'm thinking is right through Stark State isn't right so we'll kind of email them like I said once we have approval and just say here's what we have you know had appr can you tell us do we have to continue this or can we just do this and as I mentioned Stark is one of the um schools that allows students to be in there at the same time and because Mr McCarthy or not CCP students so because Mr McCarthy said they're very similar then we could potentially just offer it well

I'm not interested in CCP credit but I really want to learn ASL we could also make that adjustment on our side how would that work for the honors diploma though they earn a credit and they have have to have it's so it would count as the full year credit CU I want to make it would still be a full year credit for for C I have to look at how it's phrased if it said because I know it's four years okay and I'm not sure if it says four years or for credit so let me look into that and I'll and I'll uh send that to Mrs Housman to share her Friday notes yeah if you want to make sure they yeah that's a great question especially kids at that level are not being disad

that's for Honor diploma yeah I'll definitely check that out other questions I have a question um about just some other changes you made on page 10 on academic options you made some language about credit recovery could you just explain that to me I'm not questioning it I'm just asking for you to explain oh see what you mean so go if you don't mind no that's yeah so um one of our goals so at the beginning of the year Mrs kich and Mr Smith and I met um as a team with the counselor the department heads and we were talking about credit recovery and you know the amount of time that students were putting into it and we wanted to make sure that it was actually meaningful and they were learning something in Credit Recovery because

they have failed the course previously and so um we started an option that we're calling content recovery and we started it with our Algebra 1 and our Ela 2 courses so if a student failed the first semester you know if you failed half a year you're kind of sunk right so we came up with a plan and Miss kich worked with the Department chairs to identify what concepts would students have to do in content recovery to make up for that first semester so that they have that learning in place and then they stay in the in the actual course also during second semester but we're trying we also set some guidelines in place but we want to evaluate at the end of the year so for example we said you know like a freshman really

shouldn't need to take a a credit recovery course the only courses that they have at the middle school level are algebra and the exploration of Art and because the algebra the students are on a written acceleration plan if they're not doing well we should have removed them if we've done our job correctly um and and put them know back in pre-algebra as eighth graders and then the exploration of art course I don't think we've ever had anybody fail but we do have a safeguard in place where if a student um isn't excelling then the teachers would work we would work as a team and with the parents and that sort of thing so that being said a freshman really shouldn't need credit recovery sophomores we tried to limit the amount of classes because we don't

want a student coming here all day and taking adum all day that's not that's not why we're here right and so we just kind of Tred to limits in place and then some different um Avenues in terms of you know this requires administrative approval or that sort of thing so that we don't they're actually working through we also added some um so for example with AI being so popular if they're submitting an essay or something like that they have to write it here on campus so that we can use light speed and monitor that they're not just popping in from AI you just all sorts of different guidelines like that and then we plan to evaluate at the end of the year as I said and just decide do we want to continue with all

of these guidelines is there anything we want to tweak that's why we didn't want to spell it out in here in case there's something we want to change but we're happy to share that with you if you want us to share it with you I'd be happy to share that link yeah once you have it done I think Miss will probably sure I'll share what we have right now just knowing that she probably share we may change it at the end of the year no I was just wondering because I saw that change so I was wondering what was and then on page nine the senior Flex pass to senior Flex time that's tell us a little about that yes that came a lot of conversation with the other admin team and some of our

school counselors and some of our teacher leaders in the building um and just the what we found is the senior Flex pass that has been offered in the past uh which essentially states that if seniors meet specific criteria that during a study hall regardless of what period of the day that study hall is they can leave the building and then come back so they kind of they can Flex out um we have found that that time we had some concerns essentially to say the least with that time um we found there were some negative effects that we thought were kind of spilling over to some of our underclassmen and we thought it would be more prudent to offer what we're going to call Senior Flex time which is essentially an opportunity for seniors again who

meet that very same criteria if they have a first period or a seventh period study hall they could either come in a little bit late or they could leave a little bit early particularly for those that maybe have jobs um or something like that but we wanted to really limit that constant in andout of the building in the middle of the school day um when in your schedule is your tiger time as it stands right now it's at the beginning of the day so reviewing that bell schedule though I anticipate that that won't be the case cuz I was just worried that some of these students like I know NHS does like the the tutoring and sure and I like some of those student and I just absolutely negative impact yeah no I'm glad you

brought that up because we are evaluating that that has come out with you know just reviewing some of the data whether it's a tenance data data uh we really feel that putting tiger time at the beginning of the day hasn't been beneficial and that aspect so we're going we're revisiting that as well I I would just from colloquial knowledge of my where my office was at my job I just recently left um kids would walk by there and I'm be looking at my and I'm like is school already start and it was certain kids every day and I don't know their names but certain same kids every day um you know I'm like oh when that change was originally made it was because students were so many students were coming tardy and they were missing

first period so if you know but it's but it if it's not serving the effect let's revisit and we're also trying to be more like uh Mr Smith and I have been meeting with Mrs Housman and the and the Middle School principls obviously we're trying to move towards more common things so they're also revisiting their schedules as well to see how we can work I think and this actually goes back to when this first idea first started of the flex the flex time it goes way back um to when I was here and you could if you were a senior and had good grades and had study hall seventh period you could leave right so this is which thats say how many years cuz it's more and more years but I mean this this is

a very this goes way way way back so yeah yeah I left my senior year seventh period study hall yeah a few times w Senor flex but oh well we'll call that fle time yeah any other questions for us right now otherwise we'll just expect you email Mrs C and she'll share and we can answer any questions you have before we meet again I will also be providing a clean copy of without the changes and then I can modify that if there's anything you say nope we want that in or you know that sort of thing so thank you very much thank you for all your hard work appreciate thank [Applause] you thank you now we're on to item e treasure cfo's business consent agenda mcoy thank you hello I'd like to recommend that the

Board of Education approve all items listed in the treasurer's consent agenda so moved second any discussion um just want to point out just the minutes from last time and then donations the one donation um is a Ben Curtis Family Foundation which is on here quite a bit so um always appreciative of those please call the roll Mr Gomez hi Mr Harris hi Mr schaer hi Miss White hi Miss Coco hi thank you item F treasure cfo's business Miss toyy I'd like to recommend that the Board of Education approve the December 2023 investment schedule and monthly spending report second discussion Mr okay look at the interest start um this is a pretty uneventful month overall December there's not a lot of activity um you know Revenue wise and our expenditures are pretty much the same as

they are every other month [Music] um excuse me sorry um December a little bit I mean a little bit down but I'm it's not like it's bad or anything um compared to the other months um however uh with us like I say every month I'm starting to make those um larger payments on the project those balances are dwindling so obviously we're not pulling in as much have a have much to invest as we did previously so you'll probably see that um come down a little bit uh month by month um same thing um cyclically this is a down month for us as far as cash balances and then we start back up now that we're going to be getting into that um first half of real estate uh collections so um pretty much par for

the course there um general [Music] fund like I said not a lot happening Revenue wise um this month so pretty much in line with previous years um December um expenditures um are a little bit if remember we paid a um are stiped out to um administrative and our SEIU employees in December as a separate check um so that does have something to do with that um people uh those employees also started receiving any um adjustments or retro payment at the end of November beginning of December um so that's the increase there so now that we have everybody uh squared away and where they should be for payroll it should um uh at least in that sense start evening out a little bit over the months depending on any other kind of uh large payments for

any kind of projects we may have going on um so a negative result of operation which is typical for this month um and then we ended at about a little over 175 million um you can kind of see last year is about it's a little bit more of a a difference between November and December um but you can see the trends in the years past how they they kick up but if you do remember we were looking at um a few million dollar in um expenditures over Revenue this year in the November forecast just because of the timing of some of the air conditioning um and waiting and things like that so we were kind of sitting on that money that we collected and and we're paying it out incrementally as that project moves along

at Lincoln and Richardson so um that's about where we said uh we would be at at the end of the year um and Trends usually dictate as you can see where we end in December is kind of about where we we end in June barring anything majorly unforeseen um um there so um that there's nothing there that alarms me or is out of the ordinary so any questions or comma pleas call Mr Harris hi Mr schaer hi Miss White hi Miss Coco hi Mr Gomez hi number two your comment um I don't really have any I just wanted to say thank you for letting me have um bit of work life balance there uh my daughter was playing at Woodridge so I was of course it became the longest game of season because why not

because I needed to go um they did not win but um it was a good game so and then I realized I was dressed in Woodridge colors when I got there you I got I got some pants on so I didn't really think about that this morning when I was getting ready but I I do appreciate you guys um being accommodating for things like that um my my kids probably appreciate it more so thank you thank you item G superintendent CO's business consent agenda Dr CA thank you it is recommended that the Board of Education approves all items is listed in the consent agenda so moved second any discussion not much here personel um good news to report that we hired a bus driver another one so that's great and uh just secondly uh the

memo we've talked a lot about CCP tonight um so there's no significant substantive changes just the things that you would expect dates Etc any questions or comments Ming forward okay please call the RO M shaper hi sorry hold on it was on the wrong one Mr Harris hi Mr sh hi who white hi Miss Coco hi Mr Gomez hi item H superintendent CO's business Dr cico any comments um just a few one I want to thank um the people who helped make tonight a little fun Christine has helped uh organize uh the singers I'm empowered appreciate them and Mr Al Hadid coming this evening and giving up their time always appreciate that I know people give a lot of time and so I appreciate them being here and also Mrs Hutchinson um which she was

able to provide for you she worked on those over her break so that was nice and just want to again thank all of you and um in appreciation and board appreciation month and just for all the things that you genuinely do for our community and our children um again I've said this many times we'll continue to say I've never seen a board as active as this one and to show up as many things and genuinely enjoy and care for our children so that's most important to me and I appreciate that so thank you um also uh just our soups troops you may have seen the um parent Square go out we're doing a um a little collection uh Pastor Jay called me in a in a little bit of a panic they were in need

of toilet paper toothpaste and hats and gloves and so the I met with suit troops for lunch and they decided that this is how they wanted to handle it so I let them I let them lead the way and they wanted to involve the entire district and we wanted to have a little incentive for children who could bring something in so uh Chef Bailey was great in offering a free cookie for those who are able to to donate and recognizing that not all of our students are able to do that um but those that can we do appreciate it so that will go on this week and then um at our early release our central office administrators will join each one of the buildings um some of our central office uh to uh work on

our continued work with equity and Dei um so we're um going ahead with our uh modules so so we're many of us are in identity development right now but we're all going to be a part of that and showing our support at central office to be in the buildings um this Friday afternoon and then I will be at the one act play this Friday night that's it thank you thank you Dr St item I is board business number one's a memorandum understanding with SEIU Local one to recommended the Board of Education approves the memorandum of understanding with seu local one and the Kik Fall City School District regarding onboard instructor pay article 6 section R any discussion finally got the contract actually finalized now we're amending it but for a very good reason well deserved

um because we have a lot of people to on board finally so we're very happy about that andot welld deserved increase because I don't I don't think our onboard instructor is working many hours that she is not on board instructing right now um which is a very happy problem for our district to have it's not not a situation we have been in it a very long time so kudos to her well deserved please call the RO Miss White hi Miss Coco hi Mr Gomez hi Mr Harris hi Mr Sher hi item two is future agenda items um we're continuing to um work through the presentations and pieces that we set kind of at the end of December um that we identified as being um necessary to help us prepare as we go into our retreat

in April as we go into our um strategic plan planning so that includes um upcoming presentations on um literacy updates um all updates including um going to um rrap some um presentation from Mr am banaya into that which I um heard some folks um already received it's very impactful so um he's going to come and present at a future meeting as well Dr solone spoke about that um and about some of the elll supports that we have and what else we can do and are doing um the literacy update that Mrs howman is going to provide in a future meeting of course we have Dr Salo is going to present on um the Strategic plan goals we have right now and where that's going and then one of the things that we've talked about um

at the end of December was well I guess we met in the middle of December was that we need to have a discussion on the loby cycle and so i' we haven't plugged that into a future meeting yet but we want to work with our Treasurer to have a conversation about that because our wonderful time of not being on the ballot is nearing its conclusion so that's something that we need to have a conversation about as we go into strategic planning as well because finances will probably need to be a discussion piece um because our wonderful time of not being on the ballot and of having all this Sesser funds are coming to an end and we need to start having those Conversation Pieces as well so I think those are the main things that

we had I will have um an Esser update next meeting um to meet the twice a year requirement um of that so are things that I'm missing think so okay keeping our busy P this the busy time okay number three is committee reports I know that the cord team this time I do know that you didn't meet since last time but did you were did you have a meeting last week or did it get cancelled which one of the the design team design the design team we did did it get I was wondering cuz I know that they're getting to the design pieces that we're more invested in as a board so I'm not going to ask Dr Salo to speak on it tonight but I think going forward we know that at one meeting

Miss White will have an update for us on core team but I think at the other meeting I'm going to ask Dr Soo to give us a brief update on the design team because I know they are getting to the pieces that we're more invested in as a board so I'm not going to put you on the spot tonight because that's not fair but I think going forward that'll be a good model for us and it'll keep us a breast of the the topic so are we in agreement with that for okay fa okay atics you did not meet board policy we have not set a meeting yet M Alliance did not meet C Wellness committee I know it's starting to get formed but I don't think you have a meeting date yet but that's

starting to come together Financial advisory committee meets on the 13th we did not meet legislative lays on Mr Harris yeah just real brief um just uh a couple committee updates uh the committee uh house and primary secondary education committee heard sponsor testimony on House Bill 348 uh which would establish pilot programs to increase student attendance and graduation graduation rates through financial rewards and incentives the committee also heard a sponsor testimony when House Bill 339 uh which would establish the non-charter educational savings account program for eligible students enrolling in uh participating non-charter non-public schools um and then also Al this afternoon the Senate overrode uh Governor dwi's veto of House Bill 68 again Banning gender affirming care for Trans Youth and preventing uh transgender athletes uh from uh playing in uh you know their uh specific

gender Sports so um I uh yeah that's it Mr gz may add one thing to the house 410 so one thing I didn't share last week um I think it was last the Friday before we had um as I often go every I don't know every couple months we meet with legislators and the last meeting we we had a little bit of a different format and we met with there were five um senators and house reps there um and to meet with superintendent and one of the topics we tackled was um one was vouchers one was Transportation but the other one was attendance and so I was at the attendance table and had a chance to talk to each one of the five um legislators and we brought up house before 10 and they get

so many put in front of them that I had to refresh memory of what house bill 410 was and my opinion of well not only my opinion but my colleagues opinions of 410 and how we really don't find it helpful to us um When we struggle with our attendance it was whatever they felt was intended to help with attendance has not helped districts at all so I was able to speak to them directly and it's ironic that now there's something being you know it's being brought to light again so I did ask our at um Advocate lobbyist to share with them the latest you know just bring it to their attention that this is what they just heard from us so they're they're going to do that so and that is a future agenda item

that I did forget because we did ask for um information on attendance um with all the Investments we've made and with our partnership with stay in the game so that was a future agenda item that I did forget so thank you for reminding me because that's one that we had that I forgot so thank you is there any I know I read in the beacon today about the couple Senators that want to do away with the state income tax do we have any more info on that or is that coming it's uh it's or it's not going it's coming I I'll definitely have some more information on that um I think it's um I believe it's still in discussions right now something to worry about they're floating that around right now and obviously that's going

to impact um yes low-income folks uh in the in the long run so but yeah I will thank you one of things in states that don't have an income tax um it's not NE necessarily an increase in property tax it's an increase in sales tax sales tax your sales taxes often go into the double digit right you see 10% 12% 14% And Summit counties historically had a low sales tax and people have been very hesitant to raise it and again sales taxes usually though not always have to be voted on by um the voters so that that would be a huge hit to our families I I agree that's what I was going to say it hits um the um economically challenged absolutely more than anybody in the sales tax that's and our elderly population

yeah that's true too which I am but you know I know thanks for that M I'll get you an update on yeah thank you thank you appreciate that and then student achievement Le is on your meeting in February I believe so takes us to comment Miss Coco you're up first so I don't have a lot this evening um just congratulations to our um staff Star Award winner um I until I was on the board I was never really into it um because that's not where my children went and the first time that I met um Mrs short and saw all the work that she was doing over there it was just jaw-dropping how can one person have so much energy and you know just everything that she puts into the students and into that school

and it's just amazing so congratulations to her and thank her thank you Mrs short again for everything that you do for our students because it is definitely above and beyond the call and the students are the ones that are reaping the benefits every single day so um and thank you to Mrs Hutchinson for our lovely Tigers I will put mine up in my office um and I plan on attending one act play on Saturday um Friday is my daughter's senior night for swim so I cannot go Friday but um I'm planning on attending that and um I was disappointed I didn't get to do the Bingo calling last night uh because school was cancelled at Richardson but if it's rescheduled to let you know have so many events scheduled they're not sure they're going to

be rescheduling that when I talked to Tiffany about um and then lastly just as board appreciation month a huge thank you to all of you um for everything that you do I am honored to have all of you as my colleagues and I am proud of the work that we have accomplished together in the past two years and I know that we will continue working together not always in complete agreement we are are all our own persons but always with complete respect and integrity and for the right reasons so thank you thank you I'm up next I was able to attend the Lego snap together event on Saturday that our art Department hosted was coordinated by Mrs scholman and um students submitted their own original Lego cre creations and there were a variety of different

awards that were handed out um from that including um you got to vote for your favorite my favorite was the one the student um made a Lego replica of the uh football stadium complete with a little tiger mask so that was my favorite it was and I voted for that one um it was really cute and then they like wrote a little story and she about how much fun cuz her family comes to all the home football games and how much fun she has and they always get a popcorn she shares it with her sister and just how much fun those experiences are for her so it's very moving and miss miss shman said they had a great turnout and while I was there there were quite a few families there as well so a

really phenomenal turnout for that um first first of its kind of b um last week at our meeting I grabbed off the librarian's desk a copy of the tiger times our uh student Le publication here at the high school and it's really phenomenal there are extra copies so if you haven't grabbed one yet grab one on your way out Mr Alder learned that I'm always grabbing copies of things on tables as I walk by um but this is really well done under the direction of Mr Noak uh as their advisor and they do a great job and what I thought was as we publish the roar that Miss Stewart does every year that would be a great opportunity for them to learn about how all that goes into what you do every time and maybe

a partnership maybe at the next Roar they could maybe work on an article that goes into that since they're doing this work so I thought that would be a great thing and then everyone in our community would see some of their work um because this is really was very impressive I didn't do the doku cuz that's not my thing so somebody wants that I can rip it off um and then I want to thank um representative Weinstein he sent this nice letter to us and if you didn't get yours yet you're probably in the mail um and recognition of Schoolboard recogition month and I uh appreciate him especially even with the new districts he's still represent Silver Lake so we get to continue to bug him um for on education issues and we're I'm continuing

to work with him and his legislative Aid on um the driver's license exam tests and the different languages that it's in so we had a first draft of that bill um this came from a building visit with Dr CER and I we were at um price and Miss woff mentioned that some of her families have issues with transportation and part of the reason why was that the driver's license um test is not in their in their language and so I was like I know somebody can help us try to help us with that so we have been since that time working with um representative Weinstein his legislative Aid and the legislative Services commission's been researching this issue and we are um they have a first draft of the bill but they're putting some more stuff

into it about um getting the test in more languages and then getting the driver's license manual translated into every language that the test is offered in because Nepali is not a language and the only way that you can test in a language that it is not offered in is to pay for an interpreter of your own costs so we're we're continuing to work on that issue so thank you to representative Weinstein I'm going to the 1X on Friday I already got my ticket and then Mrs schaer and I are going to the osba Boe 101 on Saturday and Sunday up in Cleveland for a little refresher training and then this past Monday I had the capital conference planning team and I found out I have two more meetings for that things they didn't tell me

about um but um I got to share our story about how um Mr Bugatti and Margie went to that one um bus training and they got that idea and how we got bus we took that idea and very quickly turned it around in our district and got bus drivers from that so um osba is working on ways of how do we capture these success stories from conferences that they put on um because that's such a success story that we were able to put on how does osba capture success stories like ours from these conferences and use them to um publicize so I love to see us like in the magazine or something front page story always trying to uh push the great things that our staff do Mr Harris yeah just another congratulations to our

top Tigers uh Mrs short and again for everything she's doing and does um M huton thank you so much for this I'm looking forward to finding a great place in the wall uh for that um in the Miss Stewart uh Dr celo thank you so much for uh you know the recognition this evening as well um and then lastly to uh Coco I I don't know if I can follow it up do a summation as good as you uh but fantastic uh group of people here uh next to me uh doing this work we are not here uh to play politics we are not here to gridlock um uh the work we are doing on behalf of the students and the staff and the families of this District we come in here every day uh

ready to uh live out the vision that we have we have set forth so uh thank you all and I'm looking forward to uh continue work next to you all thank you thank youor Harris Mr schaer thank you um I was able to attend on on Thursday of last week a presentation on getting to the bottom line executive session sunshine on board roles and more um at the ESC and um I think the most interesting thing about there was a lot of information some good information uh the most interesting thing was the interaction of other boards amongst themselves and um it was interesting was interesting some people chose to sit next to their board other fellow board members some people did not and um there was a lot of questions that were specific questions that

were tried to ask in a non-specific way so it was just very maybe very appreciative in celebration of uh Board of Education Month I'm happy to be working with the people that I work with um and and like everyone said we don't always have the same opinion or agree but we are respectful of each other's opinions and and we'll listen to each other uh also got my letter from representative Weinstein um and and I think that I think miss coko you said the same thing it's not we're not doing this job for accolades but it is nice every once a while just kind of get like a little I see you it's a nice work so I I do appreciate this um maybe I can sit with you Mrs Coco at the one play Saturday

yeah and um then oh wait Saturday I'll be in Cleveland won't I yeah oh yeah I don't know try to not tomorrow then Friday okay and then Saturday I will be in Cleveland um for the board 101 which I'm excited for thank you Miss White yes um unfortunately I have another death that um happened in our district uh Mary Kay millish 78 passed away she was a an aid at the high school and also did the senior Commons and study halls I believe as well and um just a a wonderful lady good with the kids I know my kids had her um I don't know if anybody Young Too Young up here had her but um she was just a wonderful lady and role model for all of us so our condolences to her lovely

family yeah just and I just want to thank my colleagues too because I'm so glad I'm getting up there and I'm not going to be around forever and I'm so glad that younger people have stepped up to do this because it's hard it takes time and and effort and we don't really get paid not that we care we don't but but you know it is it's a lot of time and effort so I really appreciate our I know you're not that young but you're youthful compared to me and I you know just want to thank them for stepping up it's really good to see so thank you very much I do have an article but I'm gonna put that off because my ears are so plugged up right now I can barely hear and I

just I don't want to hear and make a mess of my reading so I will put that off um so thank you and thank you to everybody thank you miss m item J executive session number one executive session pursuing to high Revis code section 12122 G1 it's hereby move of the board of JS to Executive session for the purpose of considering the employment and compensation of an employee or official of the school district there second any discussion please call the rooll M Coco I Mr Gomez I Mr Harris I Mr schaer I M white I an executive session at
