o'clock. So, welcome to the board meeting March 12th um 2026. We have um all the board present and full house tonight. And thank you all for coming. And we'll just start with the pledge of allegiance by Murray High School. >> Please rise for the pledge of allegiance. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. You may now be seated. >> Thank you. And then we've got the consent agenda before us. And is there a motion? >> I move that we approve the consent agenda. >> Is there a second? >> I second. All in favor. >> And any opposed? That passes. Thank you. And then right into our delegations. We'll start with um
is Hillrest here? >> Hello. Welcome. Welcome. And so you're Kylie? >> Yes. >> Well, thanks tonight. >> Of course. >> Yeah. I'm Kylie. I'm the PTS PTSA president at Hillrest Junior High. This is my second year being the PTSA president there. It has been so much fun. and I actually love doing it at the junior high. Um the latest thing we've been working on is an upcoming student council volleyball tournament fundraiser they're they've been planning they've been planning on it all year. It's finally coming end of April. Um so we're excited to help them out with running concessions, getting parent volunteers, getting volunteers to help with roughing, all of that kind of stuff to make sure that runs smoothly. We also just did our annual Swig day today where we do like a flavored soda
bar for the kids to buy at lunchtime. They love it. I mean, kids and soda is the best thing ever. So, they love it. The staff is so great about us doing it and so understanding about us giving 700 children soda for lunchtime. Um, so it's been just such a great year. I can't thank everyone at Hillrest enough for how amazing they've been to work with. I'm I look forward to helping them with everything for the rest of the school year and I'm so sad to be leaving next year. So, thank you. That's all I have. >> Thanks for doing what you do. >> We appreciate you. And we have Aaron Adams with the high school. >> Hi, I'm Aaron Adams. I'm the Marie High PTSA president. This is my first year doing it. Um
I've actually really enjoyed it. It's really fun to be involved. Um big thing that we're working on right now is um cute Sheree Larson is going to bake us almost 200 cinnamon rolls that we are going to give out to all of the teachers and staff at Murray High to show our appreciation um for everything that they do for us and especially um the Zoom and back getting us back in the building. So we are going to do that on St. Patrick's Day. Um, yeah. And I've got the student body officers here and they are going to share a little bit more about Marie High. >> Thank you, Erin. >> Hello. My name is Maggie Daly and I am the um I'm a senior at Murray High School and I'm the SPO historian. And um
the event we were each um asked to talk about like an event or a thing that we do um that like I that we feel greatly impacted the community or just like that we wanted to talk about and I chose to talk about um the winter charity. So um our winter charity goes throughout the month of December but preparation for that starts much earlier. We were preparing it um probably like even before Halloween and we do lots and lots of things. Does this include the silent night fundraiser basketball game? Um, silent auction with um, let's see, where's some other ones? Uh, we played Gotcha this year. We did that one last year, too. And we also, what was another good one? Oh, we did the $5 buzz cuts, which is um, a favorite. Thank you
to um, she did you help? >> I did it, but Ash did. >> Yes, Ash did. Uh, so um, that was fun. That's a really fun one. And I just think it was so I actually I wrote a whole essay about this for one of my English classes I had um that I just like I felt like it really that the charity helped to really bring the community together and that it's one of my favorite events that we do. And I'm so glad that we were able to um like help not only that kid because we work with Make a Wish and our Wish kid Livia that we were able to help her, but we were also able to make a meaningful like impact on the community through um events like Murray's Got Talent. It
was I love seeing like people participate that aren't in the high school. I think that that's really fun. So, I would like to thank um any anybody who personally donated to that or helped with that. Thank you so much and I hope you all have a wonderful day. >> Thank you. >> Okay. Hi. Um my name is Lily Matsamorei. I'm a junior and I'm serving as junior class president right now. Um and one of the things that I wanted to talk about was actually has been going on right now with the fire and just being able to do Zoom meetings and everything. I know it's probably not my favorite thing throughout the whole year, but like it's definitely been something to be grateful for just to be able to know that we have that technology
and that opportunity that just like allows us to be able to do that and not have to continue school through June. Um, but it's just been like a good way to um be able to keep up like on learning and education, but I know it's also given me a lot of time to be able to do homework and also like I've been doing study groups with friends and things like that now with the extra time. So, I feel like it's definitely going to be something we remember throughout the rest of the school year, but I also think like coming back into it, it's been a way that we've been able to plan like some of the other activities you're going to hear about um during this time. And yeah, I just feel like it's been
a good an overall good experience and something that we're able to take a lot from, especially gearing up for my senior year. So, thank you. >> Thanks, Lily. >> Hi, guys. My name is Asher Godfrey. I'm a senior. Uh, I'm the SBO president. I feel cool like standing up at this stand in front of the panel. Um, so I want to talk about dances, specifically spring fling, the dance that we just had like two weeks ago. Um, I have a lot of energy and I love dances. It's a way for me to like just funnel all my energy into having fun. Um, but specifically, spring fling was one that was, you know, it was kind of once the fire happened, we were all a little bit worried about what was going to happen. This was
personally my last high school dance. We have like uh senior dinner dance and like uh junior prom, but this was the last like full school ask wherever you want dance. And so the thought of it getting cancelled by the fire was pretty scary. I was like, "Oh, I'm not going to have my last dance." But luckily, we were able to uh make it work. We moved it to the gym. Shout out to MAG for making that happen. It was awesome. And it was just such an awesome dance. Uh it was so much fun. day was fun. Yeah, dances are awesome. I love dances and I think I think I'm speaking for all of them. >> Yeah. >> So, >> well, thanks for having me, guys. It's been a pleasure. >> Thanks, Asher. My name is
Ethan Remington and I'm the um service senior class service leader at Murray. And the thing I was looking forward to or highlight of my year so far is planning the leadership camp that we do for the elementary kids, >> like going to the class visits and assemblies and stuff. And that that's probably one of my favorite highlights of the year so far. >> Love it. Thanks, Ethan. >> Um, I'm Lucy Vik and I'm the junior class historian. Um, I'll talk to you a little bit about prom. We're in the process of it. It's going to be April 4th, which is so exciting. Sadly, our ACT got moved to April 3rd, the day before. So, that's kind of a little devastating, but um last week we got to go like me and my other junior officers
got to go up with our advisor and um Mr. Jensen up to the capitol and like toward the venue and it made it so real like oh my gosh, junior prom is next week. Like I've been or not next week, next month. Like been looking forward to that forever and So, we're about to announce our theme. I'm not going to name drop it here in case it slips, but just know it's going to be really awesome and we're super excited. So, thank you. >> Thanks, Lucy. >> And thank you for your resiliency. It's really nice to hear from you guys and um just sorry that that's been your reality, but I think you guys have really handled things very well. So, thanks for leading out your peers and thanks for coming tonight. >> Absolutely. >>
Love it. All right. And then we've got um Jessica De Man here reporting for the MEA. >> It's hard to top the student body officers. Um uh we just wanted to say uh we're grateful for Murray leadership in creating a survey to the staff to express interest in placement for the 2728 school year. Um we are also sending Crystal Norman to the leadership summit in Chicago tomorrow. Um NEA does a great job at teaching and providing resources to educators and we just hope she makes it back. And then at our last um AR meeting, we had our president Renee Pikney come and talk to MEA about the legislative session and um we're grateful that it seemed to be a normal session this year um just because we haven't had a normal session in quite some
time. So we were grateful for that. So that's the MEA update. >> Thank you. All right. And we have uh Mr. Earl Kaufman for the um Murray Association of Administrators. >> Well, I feel bad. I really don't have anything, but I always feel bad when I ask to be excused. So, I showed up. I'm here. But it is want to thank you guys for the efforts that you make. I know that as we get busy, you guys are going to get really busy with interpreting what they just talked about legislative stuff and budgets and all that stuff, but we just appreciate the support that you give and hope you have a good evening. >> Thank you. All right. And then um my Oh, I did see thing. Hi, Thane for Mesa. I should look up
before I look down. >> I sat on the rowdy road. Decided to sit with the rowdy crowd. They accepted me that, you know, they was says, "Can I sit here?" And Scott says, "I don't think you're rowdy enough." Well, you don't know me then. But no, I I just wanted to thank you all for everything and grateful for the this here legislative. We'll see what everything finally filters through and we succeed and do and whatnot. But, uh, we're pushing forward in the school year. Uh just a one of the things that I wanted to bring up with the here again the whole fire thing that's been the the talk and everything else but um Trent AC who's the facilities manager at the high school he reached out to all the other elementaryaries and junior highs
and asked hey is there anything that you did you have access or whatever for your our what I want to say >> ESPs that are uh contracting that to fill their hours. So many of our uh uh ESPs from the high school went out to other elementaryaries and junior highs to help them and to you know succeed and keep keep their hours go up which you know benefited everybody around no matter whether they were you know doing additional stuff but it just helped also their school. So just we're here as as a unit and unified as one. So thank you. >> Thank you. Thank you for highlighting that. Right. And we've got Doug with um Doug Perry with the Murray Education Foundation. >> Thank you. So, we completed our 23rd annual Pinnacle Awards. I think
many of you, if not all of you, were there and so we enjoyed seeing you there and hope you had a good good experience. Um wanted to give a special public thank you to Inter Mountain Health for stepping up and uh allowing us to use their facility. I think they really helped us uh maintain a positive experience for everybody. uh they bent over backwards to make sure that it was and uh I think they've just continued to show that they're a fantastic community partner that's there for us anytime we need them. Um all told, the Pinnacle Awards raised about 5,000 more than last year. So we'll continue to use that funding for classroom grant program and providing teachers with those additional funds that they can use to elevate their student learning experiences. And I'm also
pleased to announce that MEF was selected to partner with FFRK and BHB engineering to uh to be the beneficiary of their seventh annual stuff the bus stuff the truck stuff the truck. That's what it is. Stuff the truck uh donate food donation drive. So that's where they work with their different industry partners, invite them to come and donate to a foundation or a charity of their choice. And so this year they're benefiting Murray Education Foundation, but by virtue of Parkside Elementary, Hillrest and Murray High School pantries for the next school year. Uh that'll be April the 16th, 10:30 to 12:30. And that'll be at the FFRK parking lot. So we appreciate their selection. And uh other than that, we're just kind of winding down the year and getting ready for next year. >> Thanks for
all you do. All right. And did we have any patron statements? >> All right. And then we'll start with the report of the board. Um Jiren, would you mind going first? >> Sure. I could say all the things before everybody else. >> There you go. >> So, Pinnacle was great, especially I think everyone did a fantastic job given the circumstances. Actually, I think a lot of people actually like the venue because there was multiple large screen TVs so they could see things from wherever place they were sitting. So, thank you for all the hard work you guys do for that. That's always a challenging event and you guys pull it off fabulously. um was able to attend the spring school board regional meeting last night and we kind of got a brief update on a
lot of the bills that were passed that we will be again addressing here as we go forward. I won't get into all of those but um look forward to seeing how we now move forward with what has been put into our hands to make changes with. And then lastly, I had the opportunity to participate as a judge for a uh six I think it was a sixth grade maybe fifth grade chef >> cook off sixth grade >> had a great time. It was held at the Hill Chris Junior High School and it's a lot of fun. Very impressed with what they did. Also very impressed with the the support that they that our school and I believe some of the older grade kids did to help mentor and support them as they were doing their
particular cookoff project. So, been a great month or two and then we keep it going. Thanks. >> Thank you, Michelle. Um, >> sure. I um I'm I'm glad for the opportunity to be um aware of the legislative session and to be part of uh what is known as the joint legislative committee from the Utah School Boards Association. Um, it was an eventful time for us and and um, we'll see how it all shakes out. As Jiren said or as Jiren implied, um, I I'm very appreciative of all that I see that the PTAs are doing for teacher appreciation. And um I think that's that's grand that we do things to recognize those good folks who educate the children that that we serve. And I also want to uh do a shout out to the construction
people. I've been able to do some virtual tours of both Riverview and Marie High and that's been really nice because that probably wouldn't be that safe for me to travel the the construction site, but it's been nice to see it. I I'm fascinated by all of that. So, just want to thank those people involved and would hope that Scott and >> your name now escapes me. >> Chris, if if you would pass that on to your people, that was very kind of them to make that work. >> Okay. >> Thank you. >> Should we go Cammy? Elizabeth. Cammy. Um, I don't really have anything to add that hasn't been said other than or besides the spring meetings and um uh appreciation for this this fires response that all of our uh staff and our kids
were safe and other than that I don't have anything else to add. >> Thank you, Elizabeth. >> Um, same Miss Cammy. Everything's been said. Uh, I really appreciate um the time that we had at Pinnacle. I think they did a really good job. I was disappointed I wasn't able to be at the high school this year, but I really liked the hospital venue. They did a really good job. Um, and I feel like exciting things are happening with our foundation and look looking forward to seeing what else comes up. >> Love it. Thank you. And I'll just echo on the legislative session in our meeting last night. They shared that there were 1,014 bills numbered. There were 541 that passed and of the 541, 213 were education related. So just always an interesting point of
information. Um I really enjoy attending school community council meetings when I can and um love the PTAs and what they do in our schools. Um, I was able to attend the VIP breakfast at Vmont and that was really fun to walk into that cafeteria and they had the some of the school resource officers there and then games and people and parents and really really fun and one of my neighbors asking why are the cops here? Are they thinking it's going to get out of hand? So that was fun but just that I'm sure it was to just be present with the community. Um, and then really proud of all the people and the work and the directors and volunteers and students on all of these plays that are occurring across the district and just shout
out to those programs and what that provides for the kids. um and just really impressed with some of the people that have stepped up at the high school and just want to um give a huge shout out for those that went the extra mile and that uh it's noted and it's appreciated and what an interesting thing to go through and I just laugh and think you know from here on out in my tenure we always have that that well at least the high school's not on fire so thank you for that that's Everything's downhill from now on. Um I just want to echo too on Pinnacle. Um I was able to go to the um when they surprised the recipients on that day. And that is one of my favorite things. It is so fun
to go in and feel the hum of excitement throughout the buildings and just to see the um shock. it. I think every person that receives that award is shocked and um wish that every person could be recognized in some sort of way. But I love that program. Um and then um just echo with the community support of of this fire and what that has looked like um is makes me really proud to be um a citizen of Murray. And that's all I have. So, we'll move right on into the report of the staff and we have um Scott Tagert with um some updates on our on projects. >> Okay. Well, once again, we'll start with the high school. Um progress progress on both projects is amazing and I mean we have the warmest warmest winter
on record and and we have benefited greatly from that. Uh right now at the high school they are uh doing the tile work on the first floor and um painting on the second. They're um working on the the duct work and electrical on the third floor. hoping to do their four-way early next week. And um all of the all of the exterior windows are in except for a couple right above the entryway so they can still get supplies that they need to up on those on those upper floors. Uh the elevator has arrived and they're working on getting that going. Uh probably one of the biggest things that will happen with the high school over the next couple weeks is actually during spring break they're hoping to to um energize uh the addition. So they'll
tie into the power and so the new addition will have will have um power hooked on and they can go from there. So it'll just continuing to to move forward at uh the junior high. Um, there's a lot going on there, too. The Masons are are going like gang busters and and it's and it can't be as as specific because they there's some working over here and there's some working in just various spots, but um they're they're working on uh getting the structure up. However, on the south side um by the park side, they're actually preparing to actually do the brick veneer. So, um, as you can see the picture that's up there, uh, where where where the blue and then the white, all of that's sheetated and it's all blue. And that's actually they'll
probably start doing the brick veneer over the next week. And so, it's really coming together. The the roof is on in that class wing classroom portion. So, that section right there, I just point out, that's dried in. They are going like mad with sheetrock in there now. and it's it's coming together. So, it's very very exciting. Um, with with the the good weather, we've had a kind of a I unforeseen and yet u it's a it's a boon to us at the same time. It's it's it's created it its own little um irritants, if you will, because of because of the the good weather and the um the economy in the sense of the amount of work that's out there being kind of low. A lot of the our subcontractors want to keep guys busy.
So, we're getting more and more workers on site than what would be normal. And so, you know, what a great thing for us, but we also are dealing with more traffic and things like that. So, we've we've had to work through some issues of making sure that that they're not parking over in the park by the pickle ball courts because that was the arrangement we had made for the bus to go and pick up over there. So, it's created some problems, but we've worked through those. We are also um it's been with uh the legal department with Murray City for a couple of months and um and we're trying to negotiate basically to bump out into the park a little bit there on the south side of the school to where we have a little
more area for for layown. And in concept um Murray City Parks is great with it, but the legal department hasn't signed off on it. So we're we're kind of at a stalemate. So, if you if we can get that pushed through, that would certainly help because it'll help us have a little more flexibility on the site. But that's all I have to report unless there's any questions. >> I will say these pictures, the scenery and the mountains are stunning. What a great spot. Look at >> I would like to say I took them place. >> It's his fault. Chris Chris took the picture. So, thank you. >> You're a photographer, too, Chris. That's impressive. >> Excellent. And >> and I just want to note, look at the single stall restroom. Look at how beautiful that
is. >> Just think it's beautiful. >> I love it. Thank you for your leadership on that, Scott and Chris. It's nice to have you here and thank you for all your work. We couldn't honestly couldn't do this without you. So, thank you. We're doing well. >> Excellent. And we have Director Teao with um some book recommendations. >> Honestly, it's just one. It's very uneventful. Um very benign book as far as anything controversial or worrisome. It's a great book to get kids kind of engaged in some fantasy. As we met, it was originally requested to approve for fifth grade and up. And as we met as a committee, um the committee felt very strongly that it was more than appropriate for second grade and above. Um we don't have enough approved books currently um for second
and third grade primarily. And so they really felt strongly on that. So we and it was a unanimous support to recommend this book for approval. So if you wouldn't mind casting a vote for an approval or >> this is a first reading first. That's right. I forgot rule. >> You're right. So, >> can we suspend the rules on something like this and approve it for this meeting? >> Is that an option? >> Is there any hurry for it? Because I'd rather make sure the public has >> Yeah. We have to have two opportunities for public comment. >> If there's not a hurry for it, then I think we >> Okay. Follow the normal process. >> Thank you. >> Question. >> All right. and then turn it to him. >> Okay. >> Thank you. So my
the first one I have is a TSSA amendment for Grant Elementary. Um in this amendment they have been piloting what's called UFly which is some some reading out of the University of Florida. It's really cool. And they need tiles and boards for each of their students in kindergarten through third grade. as well as they would like to purchase some organizational supplies to organize all of these tiles. Um, Principal Burnside actually spent her whole summer cutting these out and that was a huge labor of love for the grant students in kindergarten through third grade. So, they have some extra TSSA money and they would actually like to purchase the kits um pre-done. And then she would also like to purchase an additional 10 of the UFly manuals for the sped ESPs and the reading ESPs. So
to make sure all everyone in that community is on board on the same. And so she did take it to her community council on February 11th and that was approved and it's $6,500 uh for supply. So it is not a reallocation. It's just using TSSA funds that they currently have and have not allocated at this point. So with that, I would ask first of all if there's any questions and then if not if there is a motion to approve the grant elementary TSSA amen for $6,500 for supplies. >> Okay. All right. Is there a motion? >> I move that we approve the grant elementary TSSA amendment. >> And is there a second? >> I second. All right. Any discussion? Right. All in favor? >> I. and any opposed. All right, that passes. Fantastic. Thank you.
I will get that to Principal Burnside. The second item I have is to um look at the 2026 school year board of education meeting schedule. This is what we talked about in our study session last month. Um I did not put a July one on there. We talked about we might need some July meetings. We typically don't meet in July as a board, but knowing that we've got a lot going on of July of 2027, there's going to be movement, buildings, all kinds of things. Um, if we do need those, we can always as long as we notice them 24 hours before, we're okay. So, I didn't put July ones on. I thought we could kind of play that by ear if that's okay. But, if we want July ones on there, we can put
them on there. So, um, asking if we have any concerns or questions with with these dates. And then if not, if we could get a motion to approve these that we could then get them calendared on the website. >> All right. Is there a motion? >> I move that we approve the um 2026 2027 board schedule meeting. >> Thank you. And is there a second? >> A second. All right. And is there any discussion? All in favor? >> I. >> And any opposed? All right. That passes. Thank you. >> Great. My third agenda item is a first reading of BU75, which is the regulation and rental of buildings and grounds. This is one we've been working a lot on through our study session. So, I am not going to read it all. Um, everything that
we have talked about that's going to be added is in red. After our last study session, I'm sorry, I'm going to go down to the fee schedule that we discussed. The fee schedule was updated to be Oh, well, I apparently typed that in. Um, I apologize. $8 per hour for the rentals of the field, athletic fields at the elementary junior high. And then it would not be the the turf field at the high school, but if they needed the athletic field that's to the south of the football field. So, I'm not sure if the board wants to have any discussion. We do have a study session next week. We can look at this a little bit more, but I wanted to bring this for a first reading so we could get it on the docket.
>> And I just want to highlight the last time it was updated, 1985. >> Well, it's been updated a little bit, but not it's not a lot. So, yes, it's been a long time. So, anything else with that? >> No. Any discussion? >> All right, I think we're good to move forward on it. >> Okay. And then my final um agenda item is HB1 or SB119. This is a new policy. It comes due to or as a result of state board rule. Um we do have to have a policy on how our district responds to the public education hotline. The public education hotline is run by the Utah State Board of Education and the independent um audit committee that is out of there. And so the independent audit department A. And so this is following
right along with code and board rule. And our part right here is um when the district receives a referral, this is the process that we go through right here. Um and we do have some statutory requirements. We do have to respond within 45 days to the internal audit department with any audit and fraud complaint that is received just for the board's awareness. Many of you have been in board presidency before. So those internal audit go to the board president, the board vice president and myself and then I coordinate with the board president and vice president and work with them and then I do um report back to the internal audit department. So any questions on this policy? Again, just a first reading. I guess it should all be in red because it's brand new, but
>> Okay, >> thanks for your work on that. >> All right. And then, um, I would like to ask that we go into a closed session and that we have Assistant Superintendent Wiihongi and Director Echler stay with us. Um, and then we are going to hold a study session at 6:00 in our large conference room. And so the board will reconvene over there at 6 pm after the approval of a closed session. >> All right. I was going to say Cammy, but I'm looking at Elizabeth. >> Yes. >> Cammy. >> Yes. >> Jill. >> Yes. >> And I'm a yes. >> Great. Um, I think we will ask if the board or if members of the audience
