005we have seven very special retirees that are with us tonight so we are going to kick it right off we first want to ask Mrs Mary Connolly to come on up Mary so if you don't know Mary I think probably everybody does Mary into our school district many many years ago she has served us in a lot of capacity she has been a substitute I'm sure in every building and has spent a lot of time at our Board office and she has been invaluable to us helping us out with registration and taking care of all those families coming in to join us so Chris Shaw is going to come up and say a few words about her all truth actually I'm so part of my show so I'm just going to be repeating it it's

006really hard for me to sum up in a few paragraphs how Miss Mary Conley has contributed to our black tiger family she has volunteered to step in for many of you in this room and many others who are not here to join us in thanking her for all of her time and hard work Mary loves children so it's easy to understand why she gravitated to this line of work when she retired from her real job she has worked at all of our buildings in central office in a variety of different capacities for the past 19 years she stepped in for building secretaries special education administrative support staff student services administrative support staff and even the superintendent's administrative assistant at times Mary accepted each assignment with a smile and brought her a game and all her

007office supplies and all of her notes to provide help and the absolute best way that she possibly could even on days when I know she didn't feel like leaving all the Comforts of Home in her man gym Mary would come to spend her day working with us sometimes chaotic sometimes too hot to even move yes sometimes too many people when chatter to think straight Mary has always had the most optimistic Outlook and in an infectious smile when the going got really tough who did we call Mary although she was compensated for her time the monetary conversation doesn't come close to the Gratitude we have for the years of service Mary's provided I'm not saying Goodbye Mary I'm just saying see you soon and don't run in the hallway [Applause] five years of service yeah perfect

008favorite color of Rose is yellow may I absolutely okay just record there you go I'm I can talk real loud okay first of all I want to thank um Mr David rump he's the man who hired me he took a chance and I didn't let him down and I thank my brother John for being my uh giving me a recommendation I want to thank each and every school that I worked at I want to thank all the secretaries that I sub for and I especially want to thank all of those wonderful wonderful children I loved each and every one of them and I had a good time I also want to thank everyone past and present who works at the board office they're like my family and I love each and every one of them

009and Kim Cole I need to mention you the most because you were the first one to train me at the switchboard and you're still there and we can always count on on Kim I also want to thank boss Chris oh my God she had to put up with a lot but we also had good times we had a lot of good times I want to thank God for all my blessings and last but not least I want to thank my gym for always being there for me because he always was and he's still to this day after 33 years takes very good care of me I want to thank everyone thank you all so much [Applause] job I had the pleasure of being Ken's principal for two years while I was at DeWitt so I'm

010gonna but I'm gonna ask Mrs scholar to come up it was the current principal at DeWitt school they have a few words about Ken Kel off just in December which is why he looks so wonderful the rest of us are really tired all right well when I came to DeWitt elementary I had no idea what to expect I had heard great things but I had no idea what I was getting myself into then I met Mr G family that's what G brings to DeWitt he's that person you turn to for everything he brings patience and understanding a listening ear when you're trying to work out a tough problem G was always the first person to jump in to help in any situation he helped make sure our building was running smoothly safe and filled with

011love and laughter although I am sure he's sitting there disappointed that he not did not get to plan out field day although I have to he showed up to field day today the values that he brought to the students and team at DeWitt will live on retirement is a well-deserved reward for years of hard work and dedication I know he's enjoying his daily walks with his dog cooking dinner for his wife that's what he said as he's doing and planning out his next adventure thank you g for always being our go-to [Applause] say very little it's all about relationships and uh it's been a pleasure thank you all very much because I don't want to get emotional so I'm just going to leave thank you [Applause] all right moving on um Katie Flanagan come on

012up you can bring that beautiful baby up here and Tracy early who's the principal at Lincoln Elementary where Katie is a teacher I'm going to turn it over to one of you I don't know who's going first yeah so I'm the intervention specialist at Lincoln and I've been working with Katie for a little over 10 years and I'm going to try and get through this without crying so bear with me um I wanted to say where do I even begin I may have only been with you Katie for a portion of your career but wow was that time impactful you have touched so many students and co-workers life that is hard to not go on and on right now you have always gone above and beyond you would do anything to make sure each and

013every student succeeds in your classroom in fact most nights you close down Lincoln by staying super late you were always making sure you had everything ready to teach and made the most meaningful lessons for the next day and that every single student in your class was always successful you also made sure all of your co-workers had everything they needed and would do anything to help everyone out you did everything you could to make sure everyone was taken care of except for maybe getting rid of that spider that was the job for Aaron on a daily basis you could always find another staff member in Katie's room including myself almost nightly because of this the great listener that Katie is in the amazing advice that she gives I think everyone at Lincoln would agree that we

014don't know what we would have done without you at Lincoln you will be greatly missed next year it takes an amazing person to want to co-teach with someone each year after year and I greatly appreciate everything you've done we have been through some really great times and some really tough times together but you have always been there with a smile on your face doing what is best for every student that comes in your classroom I hope you get to enjoy that much anticipated time with your grandbabies and I hope you know how truly you will be missed at Lincoln you are truly a legend and we cannot even begin to count the number of lives you have changed for the better have a great retirement I don't like to speak in front of adults I

015like kids okay we're gonna stay at Lincoln and ask Kathy Ward to come on up this early teacher at Lincoln and she has two people speaking for her Katie grumright who's music teacher and Miss early again I'm sure it'll be wonderful we'll do our best good evening I have had the honor and privilege of teaching teaching with Kathy Ward for the last five years at Lincoln Elementary um and I have had the privilege of working with Kathy for the last nine years at Lincoln Kathy has taught at Lincoln for 26 years and I believe 30 overall when I started my music teaching position at Lincoln back in 2018 Kathy was incredibly supportive showing me the ropes of the building and if you've ever been in Lincoln it's a different animal she helped me understand the

016ins and outs of flag Patrol crossing guards recess and cafeteria duties none of which I'd ever had the privilege of experiencing before coming to Lincoln uh and she offered her help often with whatever I needed knowing that I would undoubtedly have questions Kathy also encouraged me to be myself and establish my classroom as mine she had my back completely when I as the new kid on the Block who is trying her best to fill the shoes of a very well-known and very well-loved not to mention very good friend of Kathy's retired music teacher um didn't do things the way they've always been done I can honestly say that her support and her encouragement have continued daily over these past five years and I am incredibly grateful for it we have way more sorry Kathy Ward

017is the epitome of caring not only does Kathy care about every student um she has ever taught but Kathy cares about the lessons her students have learned and continue to learn both in the importance of lifelong physical education Health wellness and nutrition but they'd also like to give you many many examples of how Mrs Ward cares for her students demonstrating kindness consideration inclusion compassion respect responsibility safety sportsmanship and love Mrs Ward does love her Lincoln family as I'm sure you can tell by what's been shared already she is undoubtedly dedicated to her students and her teaching but she is similarly dedicated to her colleagues and her Lincoln Community as a whole Kathy is among the first to volunteer to help in any way she can during after school and evening events such as open house

018or back to school bash music programs and art shows she loves to support student activities such as lemonade day and you might even see her with an ink blotter or two at our Bingo night Mrs Ward also loves to hop on her bicycle for exercise and not only can she be seen riding around town but she can often be found at many a student's game or practice often By Invitation that very day or the day before she designs and executes not just one but two field days for our students yearly including in recruiting the help and support of her colleagues and parent volunteers so that her students can demonstrate many of the skills they have learned throughout the year and have great fun doing so she's coordinated and collaborated with staff Administration our PTA and

019Relay for Life of Summit County for I honestly don't know how many years to provide a truly awesome annual relay recess at Lincoln Elementary a day-long event with many months of preparation in which students can experience firsthand how good it is and feels to care for others by raising funds to support the American Cancer Society Kathy has an energy about her that makes you want to stick with her find out what she's doing that day to join in to grasp just a bit of the love and excitement she has for life and run with it well let's be honest I may not be running anytime soon but hopefully you catch my drift Kathy has been through everything with me I cannot thank you enough in how grateful I am for everything that you have done

020for me the last three years Mrs Ward what will we do without you at Lincoln every day well we know what we'll do we'll get up we'll get moving we'll make the best choices we can make we'll take care of ourselves and each other just like you've taught us to do we hope you can sleep in each morning enjoy a cup of coffee with the sights and sounds of good books and beautiful birds we hope you enjoy plenty of time to travel to and with your family hoping to head to that Super Bowl and spoiling your beautiful grandchildren just like nanny should congratulations on your retirement Kathy we love [Applause] it what time do you want to get started so um thank you for those kind words I'm Blown Away by them I haven't had

021a whole lot of time to reflect on this retirement I've been a little bit busy the last couple weeks but I get a lot of people asking me questions like what are you going to do in retirement um you know what are your plans um why is it why is it your office cleaned out yet are you keeping that things like that so I haven't had a whole lot of time to reflect but one thing that that I I will say that I is striking me in the last few days is how blessed I am I'm blessed with a wonderful family loving husband and I am blessed that through my career path and other things God has placed people in my path for a reason and I am blessed by those people and I'm pleased

022to say that many of those people are part of the black tiger family I thank you all for that thank you [Applause] all right moving on to Price Elementary School Cheryl Beisel come on out Jackson she just told him to be kind Jackson's Gonna Stop Me on behalf of Cheryl from Price Elementary School all right I first want to start off by congratulating Cheryl this is your 23rd year no 25th year in the district six 26 here I'm sorry yes um but this is her 49th year teaching and 48 I'm sorry okay okay all right I know I know the moral of the story is um I know it's hard to imagine someone who's 29 years old to teach 48 years in our auditions um and hopefully those of you that know Cheryl this is

023right up her out this is a perfect speech that we got going on right now yeah um that's because overall uh Cheryl truly is a special teacher and more importantly she's a very special person um I know Cheryl doesn't like to mention the number of years obviously because I can't get it right um but it's a way to show how many students lives that she's influenced and how many Educators she has worked with over the course of her career um including those who came out tonight in support of her I am also extremely fortunate to be one of those teachers and while I may be just a small part in your journey you've been an extremely crucial part of mine this is my third year in the district in my third year as a certified

024teacher so she's been with me through my entire career um I consider her to be my work Mom clearly see that yeah um she has helped me grow tremendously over the first three years and I will forever be thankful for all that she has taught me as I'm sure many of you who have worked with her also feel but the one thing that I'm really going to miss the most is our morning conversations um because there's everyone knows being an educator it's get some chaotic days so just having those conversations really helped detach for a moment and kind of get us through those uh get us some of those rough days a lot of it revolved around Sports Steelers in the fall obviously penguins in the winter somehow getting her to care about my soccer

025team even though she knows very little about it I also want to make a side note Patty she was my other neighbor so I'm losing both of them she was more of my she's the only one that cared about my golf scores so I don't know who I'm going to talk to in the morning it's going to be tough it's going to be tough but we also talk TV shows it was tough having to wait until Tuesday to talk about succession because bill went to bed too early so I had tried so hard on Monday not to spoil everything so I hope they did a good job with that and we did everything we could to try and solve The World's problems like I said it was those conversations that that I definitely needed in

026this chaotic world of teaching to get us through those rough days while I'm only speaking from experience I know from talking with other teachers um that Cheryl cares very deeply about the students she has worked with whether it was as a general education teacher in the capacity that I saw her in or her role in the gifted program which I know was she was very very passionate about um nothing lights her face up more than seeing one of her many foreign many former students and we've had a lot of conversations after Steelers wins and I've never seen I never see her that happy um all teachers truly care about their students but in order to stay in this profession for 48 years there's a special type of care that she possesses that I hope myself

027and the others who have worked with hurricane carry on in the future thank you Sharon so I remember 26 years ago I I came out my husband got a job at University of Akron and we were living in Williamsport Pennsylvania and I was teaching in a high school and he got this job so I started looking for jobs out here and I sent I sent a whole bunch of applications all around and forgot all about it and then lo and behold teen and Jake Locker called me and said you want to come out I'm like well yeah I could use the money so I I came out on a Tuesday and I interviewed and Friday now I'm still living in Pennsylvania but two little boys and Friday 10 dink Locker calls and says would you

028like the uh Catherine Roberts said would you like the job in the gifted program I said I love it when do I start she said Monday okay I'll be there so I packed up the dog and two kids and we came and and I ended up working at DeWitt I worked it up obviously price Preston Lincoln everybody became my friends and my family so if I can just give you a couple pieces of advice first of all you gotta love what you do you got to find a way to love or it's just not worth it and every morning I get up even on Monday mornings when I'm tired I still love what I do and second don't take yourself too seriously those are the people that get in trouble you know I was not

029going to change everybody's life I was just going to do the best I can and never stop laughing that's my advice to you and I love Jackson [Laughter] [Applause] foreign next from Price uh Patty Mancini Sabo come on up everything for her is Lydia Taraji who teaches with her and then Mrs Amanda Wyckoff principal of price will also have a few words to say it's all yours thank you good afternoon everyone I'm Lydia Taraji currently the El teacher at Richardson Elementary School before taking uh that position I worked with Patty Mancini Sable for about five years as a third grade teacher at Price Elementary I'm thrilled to have this opportunity to speak for Patty's retirement to share some highlights of her personality many that you may already know and to provide a treat for those

030of you who don't first of all Patty is a true professional she greets everyone with a warm smile and a handshake Patty has a way of putting parents at ease in conferences she listens carefully to the their questions and concerns he often reminds me that I should use a filter in my head whenever I get to urge to express some thoughts that may not be so well received I like to compare our five-year working relationship to the old TV show The Odd Couple there's the neat polished organized person Felix Unger that would be Patty and of course there's a not so neat person Oscar Madison not be me so for example throughout the year Patty could be found organizing her room wiping down the desks and the bookshelves and even wiping down the textbooks before

031putting them away for the next use in Patty's room everything has its place and its purpose I'm still a work in progress in that area but let's move on I can always rely on Patty to remind me of the forms that needed to be signed or submitted and keep me up to date on the latest schedule changes in the building another example of our organizational skills is in the yearly third grade scavenger hunt Patty carefully planned his activity checking checklists for kids hiding all the items items to be found at the local park and providing individual bags to the students to so that they can store their found Treasures I was not a fan of this activity at the beginning sorry Patty I never told you this but I grew to love the Hunts as

032much as she did or as much as the kids did every year they loved it as a colleague Patty is very insightful in implementing an activity or strategy to improve student learning having over 30 years of teaching experience she is always willing to share her knowledge with others Patty expresses herself with sincerity never with an ounce of judgment or a sense of superiority although we all think she was born with an extra Common Sense Gene really Patty has a way of making others want to be and do better she has high expectations and a strong work ethic which instills in her students she keeps that far High throughout the year part of Patty's success is in her consistency in her daily habits take her lunch for example Patty and I always brought Earl lunches to

033school Rick her wonderful husband of over 35 years made her lunch every day I loved how she had similar things in her lunch every day every week and throughout the year even now I think I can recite what she had for lunch today you can now Break Free Patty and explore other options for life all kidding aside I cherished our lunch time together at price we talked about everything from Family School politics movies and where to get the best pizza in the Falls my favorite discussions were about our bucket lists or the places we'd like to visit when we retire I know that Patty and her family will explore many outdoor activities such as camping and hiking you will also sing along at the Broadway musicals in Cleveland enjoy Friday night Cosmos Rick's specialty with

034family and friends and of course through weekly Sunday dinners part of what keeps Patty so grounded is her close-knit family this includes her husband Rick her daughters Caitlyn Emily Jen and her son-in-law Evan she will also be enjoying her retirement with her sister Joyce who has also retired from the falls and has been a teacher in the falls for many years throughout the years I have learned how important her family faith and friends are Patty she always takes the high road in everything she does she's truly one of the most decent people you could ever meet the Cuyahoga Falls School District students that she taught and the teachers and administrators she worked with were lucky to have her moving on my friend and we all want to wish you many exciting happy Endeavors now let's

035give a round of applause to celebrate my colleague and friend and I just want to say thank you as you can see I have worked with so many many wonderful people they have made me want to be a better teacher and want to be a better person they are just outstanding and you already heard about my family always support even when they didn't always get the best of me and finally the families of Cuyahoga Falls you entrusted your kids to me I enjoy teaching and learning with them and I was real I really felt privileged to be able to serve in a place that I call my home so thank you foreign retirement from price if you have if you can't tell already we have a lot of fun together at Price all of us

036and I met Cheryl and Patty when they were on the interview committee so they picked me so I hope that I've done a good job in the last three years at serving both of them but I will tell you I've been in education for 20 years and I I'm yet to see seed retiree aged people that will Embrace education like these two ladies their ability to try new things to be open-minded to be inclusive is unmatched and it is something that I I will learn from and I hope that I can be half of what you two are when I get to the point that you're at but um the the new literacy adoption that we did Cheryl and Patty did not not bad an eye they've embraced every ounce of it they have taught

037it they have loved it they have been growing they ask questions they can do coaching they try new things and that is not something that is always common when you're at the you know other side of your career so also from an inclusion standpoint their openness to being inclusive as we've kind of shifted how we serve our students at price has been commendable from both of them their openness to just seeing things differently and trying it and doing what's best for all kids so um my final if anybody knows me because I do love reading and I do love data is that I have to brag on both of them because we got our OST scores back and I said they're both going out on a bang because they have really instilled that love of

038learning in their kids and Cheryl and Patty both Cheryl probably just got I think the highest Ela scores that we've had at price um even post covid and before and then patty just threw her kids from like 45 to 75 percent this year from the beginning and end of the year so if as you can tell this is a huge loss for our district and for price um because of what they bring to our schools for our kids so but I know they they deserve it but I I tell them all the time like I'll pay for your coursework for renewing your license I've told them both that many times that they won't take me up on it so thank you both [Applause] last but not least bobco come on up s Middle School uh

039Mr Chris skyer the principal at Roberts is going to do some speaking first I'm going to ask Mr coach just take a couple steps to the left because as you can tell he dwarfs me which is great though um Bob is certainly a giant amongst most men so I don't take a personal job um ladies and gentlemen it really is a privilege and an honor to to bid for well to Mr comb he's a remarkable educator that's the easiest thing to say he's a phenomenal person he's dedicated his entire adult life to shaping the young minds in the realm of social studies which is impossible for a moment let's just reflect on what life was like in 1989 when Mr Robert Coe taught his very first class at Roberts Middle School considering computers didn't exist

040in classrooms yet teachers had to rely on their own ability to research topics and to creatively develop their lessons for their students perhaps Mr Co had a TV on the cart or an overhead projector of Mr CO's most valuable resource and always still has been is this fantastic ability to tell stories however there is a side effect to being a good storyteller a common story shared by many of Bob's staffmates including the most recent go something like this Bob is a fantastic Storyteller but you never ever want to sit next to him during the staff meeting or or a professional development meeting because he doesn't know how to whisper or when the top selling the story hilariously Bob just keeps talking and you know it's just a matter of time until the presenter calls out

041your entire table all of us are going to miss Bob's stories and we wish we had more time to hear just one more in a world where subjects such as history geography civics can sometimes be perceived as mundane or insignificant Mr Co has always found ways to show the Next Generation there is a true value and power of understanding our past by connecting it with our current surroundings he works hard to teach the youth how to actively participate in shaping the future as this Foundation is what democracy is as a former social studies teacher myself who has the privilege of working with Mr Co these last five years it leaves me with profound sense of gratitude and admiration to have watched him teach these principal values to all of our students for the students Mr

042Co has taught over these last three decades we hope they know how very fortunate they are to have been given this privilege of his knowledge his unwavering source of inspiration and his Guiding Light during this educational Journey beyond the classroom was Mr Co was always selfless with his time whether it be advising student clubs chaperoning trips to DC or coaching or cross-country athletes to Victory his lifelong commitment to the city of Chicago Falls and its students is one that we wish all of our teachers to accumulate so as this chapter draws to a close it is with Bittersweet sentiment that we bid farewell to our Mr Co we recognize the thousands of lives that he has touched the minds that he has nurtured and the positive influence he has shared May every retirement be filled

043with joy laughter and an abundance of Adventures as you hit that road in your RV congratulations Bob on your retirement and now you can tell that story with their feet up around the campfire [Applause] um I just want to thank everybody especially Chris for the kind words um Covington Falls was working was very easy um we welcomed into the district and it's always been a pride to wear the black and gold um working with great people like Sarah and Lisa we're sitting over here um it just it's just really easy to come in with the staff that is as ours was at Roberts and through many principles the staff turns over and yet everybody that comes in is super caring and they drive you to work harder to try to keep up with them and

044so it's always been great working here it is going to be fun getting away but I will always be remembering how the falls and I'll probably be back for some Field Days in depth on a few track meets I'm sure once again new track [Applause] thanks everybody for coming if I could have all the retirees come up one more time we're going to take a group picture with board members and superintendent please grab cupcakes time tonight and congratulations [Applause] thank you foreign [Applause] over there you're gonna need breaks to stand and sitting back thank you yeah what do I do yeah I was thinking about something thank you who knows [Applause] I love being distracted [Applause] station number two this evening is curriculum materials for our English learner program resources K-12 and I will invite

045up Dr Amy Cruz to get it started so um at the start of this school year Mrs Lewis began working with our 11 El teachers in the district there are teachers of English Learners and they reviewed current resources they evaluated needs they piloted and tried different products they developed a rubric to evaluate resources and then ultimately prepared for tonight's recommendation to you earlier this month Mrs bozar shared this presentation and resources with our principals and our central office administration and tonight they're here to share it with you so you had a chance to look at some of those resources we have more from pass around some more if you would like but I'd like to invite up Mrs Lewis and Mrs bozar and you also have um a folder with some things that they will

046reference during their presentation hello I'm not going to be as entertaining as though sorry all right so uh tonight we will be sharing uh our selection process and the El specific resources that we are recommending for adoption so Mrs bozar and I led the process within our department of 10 other El teachers and they're all listed up here and every teacher in our department participated in some capacity with the evaluation and trying out the products so just a little bit about our service delivery model so at the elementary our department offers different supports based on students grade level and English proficiency in elementary we use pull out instruction for our language acquisition instruction and we focus on the four domains Reading Writing and listening speaking this occurs during an intervention block when new instruction is

047not happening in the in the tier one classroom El students do receive all their tier one instruction with their peers in their grade level classroom so the pull out supports the tier one instruction by filling in the gaps in the language acquisition and this is where our new curriculum would come into play so other Elementary Services we offer are push and support in the classroom and monitoring and consultation is that individualized or do they pull them out in groups or is it a mix and match of whatever it's a mix and match um ideally it's by proficiency level okay uh but me sometimes there might only be two in a grade and we don't want to pull from other grades when they're having their core instruction so it's a mix and match all right and

048then at the secondary level we have uh the students with lower English proficiency taking ESL classes and they are leveled and they receive a foreign language credit for taking these classes so that is where this curriculum per secondary would come into place we also do co-taught language arts classes at the high school and then the monitoring consultation for our stronger speakers and readers writers you get um so looking at the curriculum we have currently we have National Geographic K-12 we have K-5 is reach six through eight is inside and 9 through 12 is Edge the things that we like about the curriculum that we have that they do focus on all four language domains that would be listening reading speaking and writing they have grammar and academic language within the curriculum and they're based on

049proficiency level the reason we need new curriculum though is all of these programs are no longer in production and so they don't really fit our service delivery model especially at the elementary level they're made for longer pull-out sessions full-class periods and 6 through 12 our resources are largely pieced together with things that haven't been repurchased over the years so we've been supplementing with a lot of our own materials it's just not Equitable across all the buildings we all have different pieces of the curriculum so we definitely need something new so that our K-12 El curriculum and instruction is a little bit more consistent across all of our buildings yeah okay where do I aim it um So Courtney mentioned that all of our teachers were involved in this a lot of us also went to

050tesol and that's our annual conference for teachers of English just English to speakers of other languages so at that conference we were able to network and look at different curriculum different options so we were able to do that and then in your folder you will see you have a copy of our English language proficiency standards it's on the right side it's orange it's not the whole 142 page document it is just focusing on how our standards are the same K through 12 but the performance indicators what students are expected to be able to do differs based on grade level so the standard fits the appropriate grade level for students for example sixth grade no matter their language proficiency should be working on an argumentative essay now the way that they can do that is differentiated

051by each English level indicator so our beginning students would obviously create a very different product than our higher level students but this was the challenge in finding curriculum it's not the same as our typical Ela curriculum where you have all sixth grade students must do this must produce this it's leveled by the English proficiency and then our needs and non-negotiables it ties into our standards so K through five we needed something more aligned to the tier one classroom instruction so that's less pull out time focusing just on filling the gaps in language acquisition as opposed to having a 40-minute long class period with the student so trying to find something that was more targeted for mini lessons and also many opportunities for speaking those tend to be our lowest scores at the elementary level our

052students don't feel confident engaging in their content classes and their gen Ed classes so they need that time with El teacher and the specified curriculum to work on their speaking skills um 6 through 12 we continue to need something with a grammar component in academic vocabulary so we found that in our curriculum and it also needed to be something that's not taking the place of ela our students 6 through 12 are still working with hmh they're still in their mainstream Ela class but they needed something that really focuses on that language acquisition filling the gaps rather than just being Ela part two so these were the things we were focusing on working on transferable skills as well for K-12 so that what they work on in their ESL time whether it be pull out or

053scheduled class they can then take back to their content classes correct and after going through presentations and looking at what is out there for El curriculum we narrowed it down to three possible for each grade band so K through five had three six through eight um there was actually 6 through 12 that had two options and then one that was separate six through eight based on different writing demands and different grade level appropriate products that students need to create it made more sense to go six through eight and nine through twelve the ones that covered the full 6-12 grade band just didn't cover all the appropriate grade level skills so we went through a rubric for each one the rubric's very similar to the ELA adoption rubric we just added more about language acquisition and

054El specific things so in your folders you also have a copy of the rubrics and Courtney's going to talk about our K-5 that we chose in the rubrics that we looked at sorry the rubric print is pretty small but you do have links where you can access uh all of the rubrics online so as you can see Ballard and ties Carousel of ideas flew the others out of the water you already have the kits I believe yep really big books yeah the green and blue so yes yes so each kit has actually two kids two sets so the first one is the lower proficiency it's more of the learning to read and then the upper one is the blue that's the reason to learn so um probably talking to them it's um it's a comprehensive

055and systematic English language development program focused on grades K through five it's not a sheltered Ela program so like I mentioned earlier it doesn't take the place of fanta Sentinel Hagerty all of that happening in the tier one classroom and sheltered instruction it's in its approach to teaching El students that integrates language and content so you've probably seen the notes about the upcoming psyop training that's a specific model on sheltered instruction that our teachers will be receiving so this isn't the shelter dla um so this program it's for yes stand for uh sheltered instruction observation protocol so it's it's a copyrighted sheltered instruction model uh so uh this program it's for newcomers to long-term Els and IT addresses uh beginning to Advanced Learners so the whole Spectrum it is aligned to the common core standards

056and let's see it each lesson focuses on the I do we do you do philosophy so students are seeing the information presented they're practicing it together and then they're applying and extending their learning with the you do and it focuses on both the language forms and functions so the grammar and the tasks these are introduced or these are introduced and reinforced through the Thematic units and they build the fluency and automaticity and like we mentioned Reading Writing listening speaking is integrated into every lesson foreign books that go with them too yes yeah yeah they're calling the frames the long cards that you have and then Dr Cruise so it's a supplemental piece um as um Mrs bozar mentioned many classroom curriculums don't incorporate enough speaking um and this was one of those High need areas

057that our teachers requested so the lessons help develop both Bix and calc so Bix is it's the social language the conversational skills stands for basic interpersonal communication and then the kelp is the academic language cognitive academic language proficiency so the lessons address both of these they allow students to practice and refine their oral language skills in a safe environment and not only will this help them you know practice their skills build their confidence learn the language and interact more in their classroom but it's also proven to help their reading and writing so when we asked our K5 El teachers what they're looking forward to with the new curriculum they said developmentally and academically appropriate for our El population it covers all major components of the sciop model that should be used to teach students having

058a district-wide progress monitoring tool for Els right now we don't have anything so we're really looking forward to this component it will help learning gaps and it will spark more meaningful discussion and Solutions in tbt's the new curriculum will also improve equitability across the different elementary schools so on the next slide it's this is a sample of a progress report so I just want you to focus on the top section there is a Spanish version too of this so that's listed but we're going to focus on the English now so students most likely would take the assessment in the fall in the spring um just like the act or the acadians and the map show progress in content in achievement and content this will show that in language acquisition so the next couple of slides

059include a couple more report samples so the aligned assessment component measures seven linguistic Dimensions so Bix and kelp as I mentioned earlier comprehension grammar listening speaking and vocabulary so reports are available that show individual students strengths and weaknesses as well as detailed instructional recommendations and interventions so in this example you can see grammar items mild weakness detected it lists the types of verbs and then it will match the weaknesses with the specific interventions from the curriculum and then here is one more report sample so you can do a class report where you can produce the diagnostic summaries to help group students by proficiency level or language weakness okay so when we ask the K5 El teachers how this will help our El students elsl classes can be more uniform across the district it specifically will

060address second language acquisition something students typically don't receive in tier one instruction vocabulary Rich scaffolded visually appealing and relevant and it fills the gaps the reading program cannot such as teaching cultural information and social language any questions about the elementary curriculum I really like those that's part of the in The Fringe for fluency right that's part of the Carousel of ideas those are really great and it's not intentional but there's a lot of stuff in there that like can be used to like relate to our local community because there's like in the like Halloween costumes there's somebody on tiger costume so you can use that to like relate to like tigers and then in the art one there's a painting of a tiger which you can use to like help kids because especially in our

061high school the paintings of tigers everywhere so you can like use that as a relevant and on the first one if you'll show that one with Schaefer and just for whatever strange reason they put green olives on their burgers on that one which is a Swenson's thing so the teachers could use you know like yeah we're teaching about American culture too little things I noticed in those pictures that I'm like those are such weird little local things so little things in those pictures attention to detail that I didn't notice yeah [Music] flipping through the big book I noticed a lot of the take homes for the students are ask a family member do this with a family member and I appreciate that especially in engaging parents and caregivers as well with that yeah something that's

062left out of the tier one instruction too so I really appreciated that and noticed that as I was flipping through yeah well I like the fact that it focuses on the the literacy and writing and reading and speaking and listening skills very much and I also like the fact the the themes I think that's really good and I think kids pick up things more when it's themed it's more authentic I do appreciate that thank you all right and I'll leave the resources around so if you wanted to look at them after the rest of the meeting you're all welcome to um I'll pick them up tomorrow after um and I've lost the page that's on the test the testing reports would that replace uh the other standards they'd also be taking the standardized tests their

063peers and then they should be just kind of in addition to yes yeah this is specific yeah they'll still do all of the same local and state assessments that everyone takes all right we'll move on to secondary all right so like I mentioned before um we did decide to go with separate curriculum for six through eight and nine through twelve just based on what is grade level in each appropriate so time zones is the six through eight they were a little stingy with the samples on that one so I think there's only three books of time zones to go around maybe four so that one has multiple levels I think we were sent two of them a high and a low um just to see the difference thank you and they are by National Geographic

064so part of the appeal of this series and to the 9 through 12 series is all of the amazing photography everything is instead of being so locally based very Global there are science and social studies content some geography so there's a lot from National Geographic that we have access to because of this curriculum um so they were pretty close on the rubric time zones and lift lift is the 9 through 12. and our main needs of students at this grade level is writing and academic language so again that's why it was more appropriate to separate six through eight nine through twelve just based on those writing demands and the academic language that they use so both series are leveled by proficiency level and they both focus on all four language domains and again they're both

065very age-appropriate for middle school and high school so even if the student is a newcomer and has very low academic language or social language it's not dumbed down or seems baby-ish It's still appropriate which is a challenge for our secondary it also has the built-in academic language which is one of our biggest challenges and then they're loot they're using this language in context to discuss something interesting sometimes new information in the book based on videos and the photography that's in the book there is an online platform for six through eight and nine through twelve it's very similar to hmh in that it's mostly the student book online but then there's also additional resources more videos there's a classroom presentation tool that teachers can use to go through different portions of the book so that was

066a good option for our older students and lift if you're looking at that one now is 9 through 12. there was a separate grammar component that our students really needed students don't receive a lot of grammar instruction by the time they get to high school and tier one so they need this to fill in the gaps so grammar in context was the supplementary material that goes with Lyft we felt that time zones had enough grammar built in for middle school that we did supplement okay also in your folder you do have a page that gives you access to the online platform so there's one for time zones and one for Lyft the one for time zones is just called time zones but the one for Lyft is called spark so it looks a little bit

067different but it gives you the login code for different levels of the program as well so you can see what students are asked to do in level one versus level four so that is in your folder behind the group the data and progress monitoring looks a little bit different for older students because we are able to assign things online if we choose so this shows an individual student report it looks like he was assigned three different weeks of work from the time zones platform and it showed his score his progress on that week time spent so this is just for an individual student but then we also have the full Class View and this shows their average score at the time so if a student has completed an assignment and their average score is a

06850 that can stand out on this page for the teacher to go back and see how long did they spend on it did they complete the assignments before what what is the gap that they're missing there so it looks different than the elementary it's not just a testing platform because obviously for elementary we'd rather have paper things for them but four six through twelve this is an option to assign things online and our 6 through 12 teachers are very excited to have a curriculum first of all Middle School doesn't have one right now so to have something but that focuses on all four domains and that is in one piece that we don't have to piece together so many different things so our instruction can be more consistent and the way that this will support

069our 612 students is their vocabulary in this book is very rich the pictures are engaging there's a grammar component there's content information there's science there's social studies so that they're getting some of that vocabulary as well um it is highly engaging if you look through some of the books everything is in full color very nice to look at and the grammar portion for 9 through 12 like I mentioned are tier one classes just don't cover that much grammar because by the time you get to high school you should know what a noun is so most of the time our kids do not so they have that extra support in their ESL class to learn some of those things that they might be missing and then it also again about the content exposes them to that

070vocabulary to those pictures so when they go to their content classes they have some prior knowledge any questions about secondary I feel like I went through that really quick I have a question you just had something that made me really think so someone that's coming in that is learning English do you not have nouns and other languages languages like I'm kind of I'm so just blew my mind on that one no that's a good question a lot of our students do not have formal schooling in their first language or they might be illiterate in their first language okay so they are missing that academic experience and exposure so it's not necessarily we don't have we have yeah we have nouns in all way the language is just we might not have had experience in yeah

071they might not know about it and that does show up more in 6 through 12 as a gap if students have not had prior schooling K-5 is a little bit easier to jump in but that's when we needed a really specific El curriculum for our older students oh okay so the majority of so K through five is paper and six through 12 is we have them you have the option but you have both um with the six through twelve and all the different topics how do you see these holding up over time as far as curriculum is concerned where it would become because a lot of it is paper where it would become outdated you know we don't want to have curriculum that would be outdated or that would need to be replaced we want

072to have longevity with any of our curriculum obviously so so because it is National Geographic we do have access to their full Library Online as well so if an article were to become outdated they would update it online and then we get like an alert about it from what I understood in our PD so having that larger library to choose from would help but also the topics that they chose are more about exploring the world so there's some things that just by their topic wouldn't be outdated so different foods around the world or meeting the student who lives in a different country what's their life like things like that I think you have a six-year subscription online that comes with us anything else about six through twelve I know it's hard to juggle two resources

073there but they do go together there's just as many levels of each one well I guess Coco's questions so or buying these for teachers and students hard copies correct okay yeah both bubbles we're getting hard copies for students as well we're getting hard copies for teachers and students yeah actually I think that's really good because we know that reading studies literacy studies show that actually having it in your hand rather an online does help reading skills espec fluency so I think that's really a good especially for learning a language yeah absolutely option the rest of the day is mostly spent on their Chromebooks so it's nice to have a little break too we just have a piece of pencil and the other thing that the 6-12 teachers mentioned about the online platform is a lot

074of our students are not very computer literate yeah and so they struggle with things like the hmh platform but if they have something when they're with us in that smaller environment where they can ask questions we can walk them through it makes them a little bit more comfortable so while we definitely want to use the paper book we like that a lot we still want to show them how to access online platforms and how to do things like that for their other classes you know it might be helpful to just at the beginning of the year to make sure that all of our El students are informed like when they're meeting with their El teachers that we buy additional hard copies of all the books so that if that if that's beneficial to them that

075they should Express that or maybe the El teachers can help them get those hard copies that they can take home because that's something that we've asked to make sure that as we've adopted all these new curriculums that we've asked to make sure and we've been told that we're buying additional hard copies so that if kids do want to take hard copies on there will be hard copies in this way as way s and it's you've been told that we are every time so if if that would be helpful to our elf students if that takes one thing away you know why don't we just offer that to them you know absolutely yeah let's take we're all about breaking down barriers stuff right so you know to make sure our high school ill teachers no yeah

076yeah I just again go back to the research and it does seem that having a book or the paper in front of you is a much better way to read than online there's too many things that happen online and they get distracted and so on and so on so I'm not telling you anything probably you don't know but yeah good point anything else to expose so because we're investing our time and money and our resources we need to make sure they are effective so as we shared each resource has its own progress monitoring tools with curriculum assessments and or performance tasks um our acadians our map our osds should all see increases if our program or our new curriculum is effective and it should also be reflected on the state report card and the El

077subgroup data so and then our oelpa scores those are the big ones that are it's our annual El test that all English Learners take in Ohio so um each student has a Target that they're supposed to meet on the olpa so we measure how many students meet that or if they exit so we're hoping with our new resources that those will improve and more students will be meeting their targets because as we know those targets keep Rising all right so how much will it cost you have the clothes in your folder as well and they're also linked in the electronic presentation so Ballard and Thai Carousel of ideas and the frames for fluency all together it's around 4 000 a kit just under um and we would get one for each elementary school right now

078where we don't think it's necessary to have one per teacher even though some of our elementaries have two El teachers but they're not going to be doing the same lesson at the same time so there's enough material when we went through Ms Lewis was on leave when we went through the um K-5 adoption so when I went through that with the teachers went through the rubric they thought there was enough in each box that they could share enough fluency frames the picture cards that it wouldn't be a problem so and they can also copy things out of the book if they feel something like yeah and included in that is um on-demand training whenever we want it we have the Reps that we can reach out to at any time it's no additional cost it's

079all built in and also there's no reoccurring cost with the paper resources we can print them all they're all digital PDFs as well okay time zones uh just around 6 000 and I put 25 students per year because typically that's what we'll have at the middle school level um and oh I didn't mention it's on there that the K5 is come from title III funds and then the secondary would be Esther funds it'll be able to pay for that for two years from our server right because well yeah one more year yeah so this year and then next year next year yeah this current school year plus 23 20 yeah yeah yeah okay and then uh 9 30 24. and then the lift and grammar in context is around twenty thousand uh approximately 40 students

080per year we do have more students at the high school but the higher level El students don't take the ESL class so I didn't improve them in that no in that figure okay so total it would be fifty eight thousand four hundred eight dollars and 35 cents which for a program of around 300 students that's see all right so our next steps after the presentation and hopefully approval at the next meeting uh we'll move on to create our schedule for professional development making sure that is front loaded before we start using the materials and then establish a data calendar for our common assessments our new progress monitoring tool at the elementary we're excited to have something in our eltbt that we can discuss and um and analyze the data and the final questions or thoughts

081you said that I like oh sorry when you were talking about the um the professional development that you can receive from the company would that be like like a phone call and say hey we're looking at this or they physically come in and do Beauty most likely it'll be as you know what I like training and then they also yeah it'll be a person like interacting with us and then there are different on-demand trainings that we can use throughout the year if we wanted to it's pretty similar to hmh um the Ballard and tie yeah same thing actually and they're they're a smaller company they're only El focused yeah so they're readily available and our the East Coast rep actually lives outside of Youngstown so she said she could actually come in person and help

082too and the Valentine has an online platform s so the students may not be using it but the teachers can access to print things to see the reports to have the on-demand CD or webinars so the teachers will have access to that is just not the same how so for students that have already been engaged in this how will we work to like help inform their families that like there's gonna be more coming home because we have these additional resources because it's hard you know sometimes to inform these families where the family oftentimes the kid is now speaking more English than the family so how will we work to try to engage the families there's new curriculum it's going to be more engaging there might be more asked of them from their child with this

083new curriculum we've given thought to that I know it can be very challenging with this because we get we get these kids being so successful and then sometimes the kids are teaching the families English or they're bringing the resources and which is wonderful we love to see that yeah hopefully at the beginning of the year we'll have some kind of involvement at the open houses to meet with parents interpreters we usually have there was if I'm not sure if it's been approved yet the new communication platform last reading okay parent square right now yeah so that will be a very helpful piece for this community has the audio capabilities that we can send over a translated message for our families that are not literate in their first language okay that was one of the big

084selling points yeah give that information to them or they can listen to it and understand and then down the road just because you're here and you're Stewart's here down the road one of the things I'd love to help us one of the challenges I think that our El families have is that that sometimes when they're not fluent in English is that they get left out because other families can't speak with them in terms of play dates and other things it's hard for the families to engage those parents to invite their kids to a birthday party because the family doesn't know how to invite that family because the family doesn't know what language they speak or I've heard Mr Coco share a really profound story with us about a situation where she helped a student get

085enrolled in band but I know like at Lincoln where they try to invite kids to play dates or birthday parties but the family doesn't speak English so they don't know how to RSVP for the birthday party on the kids get left out so that's a challenge that I think that going forward that we face as well and trying to find ways to bridge that Gap as well to make sure that our family all of our ell families feel welcome to include it it's a big ask right now it's not a problem we'll solve tomorrow but it's something that I just thought since you worked here since you were here I thought I'd throw it out there because it's something that we're seeing pop up more and more and I know I don't have the solution

086I don't expect you to have that anytime soon those are some of those little things that you just don't think you don't think about until you start you hear stories and then you're like wow I would have never but that is so profound because you don't realize what an impact that has because that kid could be very popular but if the parent doesn't know how to RSVP or how to read that birthday party invite that the kid gets especially at the younger grades where it's harder for the kid to be the one talking right so and I know we've talked about having a family liaison talked about it too so yeah that person could help educate families on what is this that's coming home what should I've already started typing up some job description ideas

087yeah these little things that come up and you're like wow that's really profound that because we don't have we've never thought of that before we haven't solved the problem yet and now that's and stuff yeah it's wonderful work that you're doing and it's an opportunity for us to thank you Ms mozar for stepping up and taking on the additional work thank you thank you so that Ms Lewis could spend that time with her new little baby who's adorable by the way but I have to return nicely was one wonderful the other side so it's nice to have an opportunity to thank you as well yeah and thank the whole group for taking time because it is important and we want to get this right and do the best we can so I do appreciate all

088the work it's a lot of work and time and effort that goes into these studies so thank you thank you thank you so much thank you number three is a strategic plan academic growth update that will be Dr salikov all right um David are you going to pull that up there you go thank you if you don't mind I think I'll just sit here it's just a few slides and okay um so as customary with our process we've been in informing you keeping up to date each month of a topic one of our goals in this month I'm going to highlight our academic growth goal and we have Mr Jones and Dr Cruz are here in case they any questions and I know Jen's scale I believe is part of that committee as well so

089I appreciate you guys being here if there's any questions we can um we can tap into them as well um is here you see our advisory committee members those are our school folks that are part of this led by Julie and Amy though give them props for their work in this and then we have more staff and community members that are also part of this so you can see a pretty sizable group I know when we were putting out the getting the level of Interest gauging that there were quite a few that were interested in this so I know one of the other things that they have done which is great has accommodated those that need day and evening kind of um and online or virtual versus in person I think been making some accommodations

090for them so appreciate that as well our first goal as again as we tie in our Board of Education gives us the direction as this being their strategic plan and US executing it the board has stated their first goal is that we aspire to have significant growth through personalized education for all students we've had a number of conversations about personalized education and what that means and while it's not always the simplest thing to do it's a very important thing to do and so we're going to talk about that in just a moment and then in tying to that our team our district goal came up with the team will create a systematic approach for teachers and teams to analyze data to guide instructional practices that engage students and improve academic outcomes and I'll show you

091how the two of those connect um in doing that so again here's the goal I just stated and then our action steps some of the things that we're going to be looking to do as you've heard the word power standards before you know and rather than trying to address every single standard and trying to squeeze everything in to one period of time we want to really hammer away and focus on our power standards and also through vertical alignment work so there's been a lot of conversation and and requests from teachers to to look at things vertically as opposed to always horizontally with our teammates which the value that tbts bring with our peers there's also some value in in getting time with our peers that um come before us and after us in in chronological

092order there so we're looking to focus on that but um also again looking at common assessments and we already have some created and and some that are complete but some that are still in need of actually creation altogether so we're going to be focusing on our common assessments as we move and tie those into the standards and again alignment uh with with the teaching and the in the cycle of teaching reteaching looking at assessments and data as we mentioned before and then the forms and norms and forms for grade level departments again one of our practices has been establishing norms and how we're going to proceed and what the expectations are during the times in which we are our meeting and in this case it might be BLT it might be tbts that we're going

093to reflect on that data and then use we the word used to be protocols but now we're talking about forms and just more so a guiding of a process in order to make those conversations during TBT time more meaningful and BLT as well when we're looking at data and how we're going to align and um guide our instruction and then the district data calendar that'll come up again here later but understanding the components of our report cards and how we can also look at specific areas you know the different the six different areas so in in our report card and how will look at that Ed data and more importantly how we're going to use it to improve instruction our second academic goal again related to the board of education is a lot about graduation

094rates right we've spoken about that and how we want to improve those so students are prepared for I love it the three E's employment enrollment or enlistment those are generally one of the things one of the three things that our students will do after they graduate and we just had our wonderful graduation last night so I'm curious to see where our students land and which ones they all choose in addition to that just a side note of speaking with Ali one of the things I often ask well every year I kind of ask and demand a little bit to know the percentage of students that we anticipate graduating and Julie was part of the conversation as well not only what and I have to dig a Little Deeper describe it was trying to give her

095some time to get through graduation I know how stressful that is on a high school principle but looking at the rate that we think will pass or will graduate so you know how our graduation rates are always in the rear so the report card that we get will actually be for last year's graduate then this year's class will be a neck reflected in next year's report card and we anticipate if things are what we what we've seen what seems to be will be at about 93 percent which will be a substantial increase from what we anticipate getting on this year's report card but um in addition to that I also like to see the students that the names of the students that do not graduate and the reasons why so we might do request that

096and we'll be working on that as well and then so then to tie into our district goal when we're looking at graduation about analyzing data verifying appropriate reporting and outlying intervention so I'm going to talk a little bit about what that exactly means so um some of that I watched a video that Dr Cruz sent with me it was actually a very quick quick but impactful little video that basically gets to the why so if you keep asking the question and keep probing the question why why you eventually get down to the root cause we talk about the roost cause analysis but it doesn't have to be that fancy or sophisticated it's just a matter of asking the right questions But continuing to be persistent with the question why so in doing that we investigate

097you know looking at data from not only subgroups but looking at Trends and populations and students and figuring out who's not graduating why they're not graduating what and then looking at what we can do to address why they're not graduating and we have to look at that from a system-wide lens not just you know in a narrow focus and accept one answer as well they're just not interested or it's the home life well I don't really want to hear those those mere more of excuses what are we going to do to address that so investigating the potential District Solutions again to identify as I mentioned the root causes and then reviewing those practices brainstorming a variety of things that we already have in place such as the you know looking at well we have SHINee

098as an option that we've had some students go there we have the graduation Alliance we also have in in District and in-house things that we can do very simple things such as meeting frequently with students having assemblies getting contacting parents you know being really Vigilant and persistent on on our students and making sure that they have the credits that they need that they're passing their their tests and if they're not what are ways in which they're going to get different ways in which they can get their seals and diploma so then looking at developing a tiered approach approach about the things that I had just mentioned um looking at the review of what the committee has done the work that they've done they've created a data calendar and I think Mrs White you've been uh

099benefiting from some of those conversations right at our DLT the past year also investigating the Ohio Improvement practices and collaborative structures for analyzing data we've been looking at data at those meetings and breaking it down we've created and reviewed goals and action steps with the staff and Community as you see here and then outline subcommittees and solicited interest on these different areas that we just spoke of and then the shared District data report graduation interventions again has been that information has been shared with interested subcommittee members so you know you you have different people who are different maybe interested in different areas here that may want to latch on to a subcommittee to do some of that work and then next steps for goal one um looking forward to next year uh creating a data

100calendar again and what information we need and what we should be looking at the norms and forms that I referenced for the teams the data analysis that will take place the power standards work that we that I mentioned up front and then the common assessments that typically is a large task so one thing that I've I often start with is sort of like an inventory of figuring out what common assessments are done and what what are not because if you really get into this generally you start with or I have at least in the past started with you know reading and math and just starting there and trying to get the common assessments created for those subjects but then of course you would want your court and ultimately all subject areas but it can be

101a massive undertaking if we are not in a position that we have a lot already created now some textbook providers are really actually have gotten good at this and um creating built-in assessments that you can actually use and not have to recreate them so that's goal one and then goal two again back to the data analysis to really hone in on why students aren't graduating and figuring out what we're going to do to help those students and to come up with more creative ways to help them get across that stage and uh that's it is there anything either of you would like to add Dr Cruz or Mr Dunes it's been great because we've had um Scala and Miss Paul to on our team is looking great to have that Elementary perspective to help because

102already we've started you know unpacking something that we realized or started younger but potentially the district to Nebraska trying to get those students across the stage and we did have one of our graduates last night used our graduation Alliance to finish our credentials so that she could walk across the stage so you know just all the different things it's experience and filmed together and the community asks a lot of questions thank you questions are coming it's going to board well I'd like to say thank you for the power standards coming up we already did that in the English Department 912. we also do common assessments and rubrics I don't know if they're still any good but they were based on the common core standards but I don't know if they still use them I don't

103know but it was start anyway for the English we did work on those um I did I do like the thing about the graduation of finding out why and then being proactive to help these kids go forward and graduate so I really am appreciative of the work the power standards the vertical alignment which is so important because we know the high school teacher said the eighth grade students weren't writing enough to get into the enrich dll Ela and so we know there's needs to be some alignment there and I appreciate that the challenge with that one is time right yeah it does take the people together in the room it will take in from other schools right so you can have some cross conversation yeah a couple years they'll be on the scene but I

104do appreciate this going forward this work like I said we we did it in the English but I don't know if they're still used I don't know if they're still relevant so you know it's always good to go and look in and develop new if you need to that's you know so I'm glad thanks I have a question um not necessarily about this but you mentioned with the graduate from The Graduate Alliance is that our first graduate to walk across the stage at the you know that completed using that yeah the other graduates had been approved here yeah um and had you know been able to come back it is exciting and I will say that our high school one of our High School El teachers worked three and Harvard guidance I have a question

105so um the norms and forms how do you think that's going because you had it in red but that's due in fall how's that going what has been in place so sometimes though the forms can um can create a barrier and so those were some of our conversations about making sure that those forms were user friendly and um and making sure that everyone understands it's it's really about um the data analysis but then it's those next steps and those Reflections and making sure that you're going through that whole five-step process and not getting hung up and did I fill the form out so those are some of those conversations so um they're really there's some schools are using them now in their data analysis so it'll just be a matter of kind of fine-tuning tweaking

106those with the BLTs I had a spoiler on that graduation rate because Miss bojran told me yes because she knows I'm passionate about that so she was proud to tell me but so I did do the math on that so we had 222 who qualified to walk the stage last night so um with a 93 verse that graduation rate that means we have approximately 17 that did not did the math it's it's a it's a one it's a wonky at 93 it's gonna be 17 could be if I may um starts with and so that's how it's calculated and if a student does not enroll in another District or an online learning platform or something and that does come that says and so that's we work with Michelle as well and try to to work

107on that so there are more students than just a just the ones that you saw there um who may have enrolled elsewhere or something like that yeah told me about that she said those were already accounted for she said they did the cleanup yes but so we have 17 that we are really responsible for in that 93 to get to a hundred percent so I think the board would be interested as well I don't necessarily need names but in knowing what the rationale is for each one of those like one by one of why they didn't graduate so that we can better understand as board members to get that sense of understanding because this is one of our main goals as well so I think it'll help us understand as well and not not names

108because it's not about shaming right but it's about understanding what the reasons are so that we can understand what the barriers are to getting to that and in one of the conversations yeah and one of the conversations we had was that you know some of these students came like just to us what a few months ago or a couple we don't let them in but also one student um here as a senior right you know as a resident enrolled in online learning I was able to complete anything yeah you roll the graduation Alliance this year or the students the district takes a hit on that as she's living on her own with significant others she's running her own business and so yeah priority right now um graduate one day when she finds the need for

109that but but I will get that yeah and then the other question I have is an um under goal two um all the action steps are about the graduation rate but the one of the big pieces of our goal is about make so that they are prepared for um employment and listening enrollment so is there anything that we can create an action step about tracking our graduates future plans just to knowing do they have future plans because it's not just about um getting them across the stage it's about making sure that they're prepared to be successful so it'd be nice if we could create an action step of just monitoring future plans I'm not asking us to track them down in a year to see if they went to college or not yeah I thought

110we did but I didn't see that in there but it would be nice to have this yes it would be nice to have that in there as part of the action stuff because that was an important part of our goal was to make sure that our kids we want to make sure our kids have plans because we can tell you stories about kids that have graduated and and don't have plans and still won't have plans and it's so we want to make sure that our kids are doing are doing something with their lives because they have the potential to do great things but we want to make sure that they have that that walk across the stage to go on and do something with with that diploma and then it also allows us to follow

111up with them after you know postgraduation require thank you that's all I had anyone else thank you thank you item e treasure cfo's business consent agenda Miss doikoi second any comments um yeah a couple uh one um amended appropriate precludes some amendments due to the transfers that are on here for the construction project and those costs safety Grant um that's under 4.99 so that is in there as well um and so those are the major changes there the transfers those are just to kind of it's it's transferring um amongst our many funds that I've we've talked about we have our locally funded we have our local share kind of moving that around now that we've done that GMP of where we're going to to need those funds if you recall we needed of our lfi

112funds to supplement the local share and and just the way it is like because we the cops issue that we did was specifically for those stadium and Auditorium things I had a local Share account so so the deposit goes in the lfi which already have existing money and then that money needs to be transferred over to the local share to cover to cover that um the alternative tax budget this is just something by law that were required um to do because we are also required to approve their uh any Levy language that they have or any proposals um same thing with their alternative tax budget and then finally the TSA agreements these are updating um I said mentioned in my email we kept up 457 plans because oasmo um kind of has a uh main

113document that everybody uses uh the 403b plan has not been updated since 2009 because that's when the regulations were implemented back then so there's some updates there and this also changes our services from Voya who it plan with ease to TSA as kind of our TPA for all things the new 403b and 457 related uh frankly playing these is not what they got into that business in 2000 everything changed they really don't want to be in that business anymore so they are not they don't really focus on that part of their um you know business um and so we don't get a whole lot of support um and so this will make it easier not only in my office but it's a lot lot easier for staff who have retired or who are trying to

114get money out and their their advisors to be able to access that without having to jump through a bunch of Hoops it's much more user friendly for them so that and they will handle if there's ever any updates you know letting us know and getting those things board approved right now playing with these does not really do that as a matter of fact I asked them if there was a different I was like okay well we'll just go with this then so there's no cost to us it's powered to have that so or almost exact same thing we go out with them from the board please call the roll Mr Gomez aye Mr Harris aye Ms Schaefer aye Ms White aye Ms Coco aye thank you IMF Professor cfo's business Mrs doikoy yeah yeah I'd

115like a second all right missing the Baton um [Laughter] I only wanted he looks bad let me get a paper cup s thank you stuff that's not my education thank you that's okay so uh during cabinet this week I did find out that Miss McClure plans her summer tv schedule around my May forecast yeah you're gonna be way behind you've got 10 Seasons That's All Right to catch up Miss awesome and I can we can help you with this one yeah yeah I don't know we would know oh no no there we go okay what is the show so some of you may not know this yes I know Mr Gomez does Vanderpump Rules have you not heard of scandival what's one it's on Bravo okay it's called Vanderpump Rules Lisa Vanderpump was on the

116Real Housewives of Beverly Hills let me give a little lesson and uh then she owns restaurants no no she owns restaurants and then this is about like the people that work at her restaurants but they're if you've been paying attention at all like the last six months there's a big Scandal one guy's name is Tom Sandoval and the whole thing now is called scandaval reality TV oh so good restaurant tonight is uh the first episode of The Reunion of three parts and who doesn't love Andy Cohen and I got another easy on the show he is in charge of the reunion yeah he's the producer and I'm an OG I started watching when it first came out I didn't just get it because there are better things to watch I don't remember when it started

117see you also if you worked in a restaurant then you really find it because it's exactly what happened when Sheena met with Brandy and then she after the meeting and then she walked in yeah so I'm not trying to make it about me but it is a little bit about me so and I did work in a restaurant for many many years well then you you watch this and this he also worked in a restaurant Jackson's mirror [Laughter] because I do watch it so I do days in Board of Education serve as a basis for determining our ability to sign contracts and to provide a method for Ode to identify school districts with financial problems um so this is um our filing for the five year forecast um this year fiscal year 23 so the

11822-23 school years uses the base year um in which all the future years projections are arrived um obviously we are conservative in nature which gives us a little flexibility when unexpected situations arise as they do as they have a lot over the last year or two um so it's based I can tell you there's probably a little bit of things that have even changed not materially but like change since I gave you this a week ago um so and they will especially with the biennium budget coming up um and as always um and we'll talk a little more about this later that we need to remain diligent in assessing the need for any additional expenditures without any offsetting Revenue this will obviously hurt our cash balance and that will erode our stability over time inflation

119is obviously impacting us like it's impacting everyone to continue over the next few years how long nobody really knows as much as everything that's going on the last three years nobody really knows um so this is a snapshot of where we're at that uh peach color represents the renewal levees that are out there in the 26th and 27th school year um there is one in 25 that expires and and two in or in the 126. sorry so two total in there um so overall here's what it looks like in in summary form Revenue if you know in those last two years uh Revenue it does not include those renewal levies up top there so that's why there's a significant decrease um going on there expenditures are also obviously going up in the key line to

120look at is our Revenue Surplus or deficit some of this will be explained but obviously going forward that's something we'll need to address is the deficit spending that we will be doing like I said some of it is a timing issue and as you can see we're projected to end this year with four million but we'll talk about that a little later in the forecast um and then you can see what it would be without the levees um at the end and um we would be in the red in year five if either of those renewal of these were two revenues so some things never change real estate and state funding are going to be our two main Revenue sources it's about 87 percent of our total revenue um and then there are the two

121renewals for existing levies uh revenue is expected to increase at a whopping 0.45 percent over the course of the forecast uh historically it was about two percent um this year so real properties assessed every three years in 2020 we had our reappraisal sexinio reappraisal which increased our property values almost 14 percent uh currently right now the Summit County is going through their triennial update um for tax year 23. when the district values rise due to inflation they have over the last few years House Bill 920 reduces those voted tax rates so there's no increase other than on the inside millage that we have which is about 4.9 mils as we get further away from that you know 2008 recession and everything and and things are picking back up values are going to continue to increase

122but we're not going to collect any additional revenue from that because of house bill 920. and you can see here's a little snapshot of our property values each year you can see back in 2019 it's about 771 million and then it jumped to 878. however a billion there in those final years those same kind of increases is what is being seen even more so than that almost 14 percent across the state of Ohio still so we expect those values to continue to grow is that just based on demand do like they give you an explainer because I know our community doesn't really under part of it's just the market it's a little bit but the the rates are still we'll see really I would say that it's the trend has kind of you know tapered

123off for like the demand but it's still there um my neighbor across the street just sold her house and House of two days and she needs a brand new roof and like you know what I mean like that is things are still happening like that so I think until we see that really really slow down we're not going to see much change this thing um so the 3.6 million dollar emergency Levy was approved in 2017 and was renewed by voters this past November um in this forecast are 7.9 uh Mill Levy and our 9.97 no Levy um in 25 to 26. there they were both approved in 20 and 21 for a five-year period respectively as you know part of the goal is to kind of get off this Levy cycle and hopefully get some

124of these continuing we have a nice little break here this is the first calendar year that I've been here that we haven't had a levy or two um so it's it's nice we have a couple year break and and hopefully we can kind of get out of that cycle and that Levy fatigue as I mentioned we can't assume the renewal of those levies so they are shaded in that orange there as what portion of the revenue they are obviously it's a good chunk y it's one or both were not to pass so House Bill one was introduced earlier this year which proposes to modify the law regarding property taxation in Ohio income tax rates it wasn't very well thought out because there were a lot of questions then after from uh you know are my

125people in osbo about House Bill 920 and does that affect this and that so what they propose is doing a single income tax rate a limiting eliminating the 10 reimbursement um the two and a half owner occupied credit would be a flat 125 dollar credit instead of two and a half percent um indexing those Homestead amounts to inflation and reducing the property tax assessment from 35 to 31 and a half percent to offset that 10 rollback but if you remember what I just said in the last slide um it's that would actually increase the tax rates for property owners because of house bill 920. um due to that reduction in assessed valuation they're going to raise that voted millage to be enough to collect what was supposed to be collected um so that effective Melody

126on voted levies decreases as property values grows but if that assessed property value decreases those effective millage rates then go the other way they go up in order to compensate and it would increase the local taxpayers proper reliability in all nearly all cases um they'd see a reduction on that inside millage because that is allowed to there is no like cap or amount um but really you're seeing a net a net loss almost everybody um so that's I haven't heard a whole lot else about it again they didn't really think all of those things through and how it would actually play out um in practice it doesn't make any sense and so it's really not a safe and they went oh when somebody was like it's not saving anybody any money except so I I

127doubt that any property taxpayers in favor of house bill one anywhere no matter what you think about anything kind of physical funding or anything can I ask a question really quick so on that okay so I'm trying to really get those so House Bill one the assessed property value is gonna go from 35 to 31 to offset the 10 rollback so the government will be paying less but the property owner would be effectively paying more right and we would still be receiving laws in the district correct we'd still be receiving the same all the same okay they're going to pay more because they 'd say for not only the lower assessed values but that sounds good like oh I'm only gonna pound 31.5 but but again like I I think I say this every time

128it's a pie and so then the pie just gets cut up differently so if everyone's at 31.5 you're essentially paying the same same thing put minus the ten percent roll back you know what their answer was they created us a commission for the legislature to study how Ohio's property taxes work so that they can better understand that yeah yeah so they made I'm not kidding this was their solution it is because they admitted that they didn't understand it so they created a commission for themselves so who came up which is great because the legislature yeah which is great in a sense but um was actually at our local chapter meeting on Friday and she said that one of them made mention about something about House Bill 920 well why don't we just get rid of

129that she's like we should get rid of that like that would be a big thing for a lot of schools because you would be able to have growth on all your levees you wouldn't have to go back all the time um and so you know they just peel that back our community our local community taxpayers could never afford correct because they'd be paid going from like 1976 yeah to 2023 yeah local taxpayers that cuts you know to to repeal it but make it affordable now and then going forward you know um but hey if they want to figure out how it works great issue on that committee it's going to be an appointed committee or I don't think it'll ever be oh okay I bet that's Katie Johnson probably thinks except you know and they've

130this is not the first time they've said they're like she says pretty much all the time they're like oh we should give they put it in the budget and then it doesn't uh public utility um this is tax revenues paid by public utilities um this is very small it's less than one percent again this is one of those things that it used to be much bigger because it used to be assessed on the inventory that businesses had and it for some districts was a huge amount of money um and then they got rid of that that was TPP right TPP yeah and then they like gave you like a replacement for a little bit but that's been phased out um so some of these people like saw millions and I'm sure it was here too

131millions and millions of dollars now it's like 600 000 a year yeah so you can see what it looks like also part of the renewality property tax allocation uh this is that 10 and two and a half percent I just talked about um it's about six percent of revenues you can see there you can see what the amount is that is renewal the biggest thing here uh is that if any of the future renewal levies that were approved before 2013 were to lapse they would be considered new money levies and um currently anything previous to 2013 is being reimbursed by the state at about 10 and two and a half percent um any new levies after that are paid directly by the property tax owner um and so if one were to lapse at all

132considered new money going forward and they would be responsible they would see an automatic increase twelve and a half percent it also changed the requirements for Homestead and we've steadily seen a drop in our Homestead exemptions so again there was a a legacy clause for people that were approved before 2013 and then going forward there became an income component in order to qualify for that exemption um and so it's obviously decrease a lot of these people that were approved before 2013 typically this these are older people you know that was 10 years ago as they are no longer with us not as many new people are getting approved and so we uh one question about this because this is something legislature decided that as like a pet project as to like expand weird eligibilities and

133Homestead even though Homestead it wasn't really meant for like these other groups they're like throwing other groups into it and calling it a homestead yeah and then indexing it to inflation they pass one House pass on this afternoon yeah and indexed it to inflation like what does that mean do people really like are people taking advantage of this is your Association um oh space not really saying anything about it there's not really a whole lot of information I would say I can tell you like I said it's steadily decreased so no I it's it's become a lot more restrictive since 2013 and so that's the main reason for that is that people you know don't qualify that income level I'm not sure what it is right now but it's it's not you know there's not

134a lot of people that are qualifying for it because of those requirements but I don't think it has I don't think these new ones have the income I think it's based on your like class like today they passed one for disabled military veterans too that's a high calling if you get disabled and service to our country that's a high calling and thank you for your service but then they want them to have a homestead exemption so they have something and I I don't know the specifics but they're calling it this and that's right they can get a homestead now there's a certain military veteran veteran component I believe to um the homestead now I don't know all the specifics of it but I have seen the couple things where they want to index it to

135inflation and and throw in these other groups and so I'm not I'm not trying to do um like I said we don't we don't receive this um for hardly and I mean we don't it's not very much in the end for us and it's it's just gone down from what it was it used to be much easier to before 2013 to get a homestead exemption is basically if you were of age you can get it um and that's not the case and I think probably a lot of people don't want to go through the process one before it was like just fill this out and say you're you know prove that you're this age and move on and now it's more required and I don't really know at the end of the day how much

136it's saving them yeah you know dependent on what their their home value is for State funding unrestricted grants and Aid this accounts for about 24 our second largest source House Bill 110 is the current state budget so that that was passed in 21. um and it implemented the fair school funding um many significant changes that we're aware of in June of 22 we they passed House Bill 583 to resolve some issues and unintended consequences which have impacted and it did impact us this year which I'll talk about in a little bit um and then throughout the remainder of the forecast there will be two new state budgets one is how this should unveil I believe it's June 6th and then we'll we'll go from there so fair school funding uses a base cost um and

137instead of District where you reside it's where you're being educated how they provide those payments so there's no separate open enrollment or any other kind of payment all those other deductions Community Schools those things are no longer um coming out of the district they're paying direct paid by the state it also included the formula transitionary Aid or the guarantee there are three different types of guarantees basically that we will not get any less funds in this year or the year before than we did in 21. um and so that calculation is theirs 21 based on full State funding Cuts if you remember we had cuts board net of those transfers and deductions for open enrollment and Community Schools and then Plus student wellness so there are four factors for this student population property value personality

138historical funding so one of the biggest changes the definition of enrollment you use District educated instead of resident and this will be a bigger piece of this but this is our enrollment and this is per you know ode and what they're funding us on you can see the significant decline for us which I'll talk about how that impacts us later but in not even three years we're down almost 600 students so the current proposed state budget House Bill 33 was introduced in February it continues the implementation of fair school funding which is great um the governor uh in his proposal kept the base cost factors at the fiscal um figures so those are the salary average salary and benefits from the 17-18 school year um instead of updated the house however updated those in their

139version updated the base costs to fiscal year 22 so 2122 but they also increase local capacity and those those parts to current numbers as well for the Senate President since he's taking it out yeah um so it increases the general phase-in um from 33 in the third to 50 percent and then 67 percent in the next year extends that guarantee that transitionary Aid so that you will not get anything less than you did in 21. um it increases the minimum State share percentage for transportation Aid to 37 and a half and 41 and two-thirds the last two years there are two other funding components which could provide additional support for districts one is the sports gaming profit education fund um which they said is projected to appropriate 30 million in each year of the biennium

140which is an awful lot if you're thinking about all the districts and State and only 15 million is targeted towards reducing uh pay to participate fees the second component is Information Technology support which is projected to appropriate 14.3 million uh over the course of the biennium obviously there's a lot of uncertainty right now and we're not really going to know until very late June early July what this actually looks like but we are continually monitoring it like I said the Senate will have their version out June they mean ohsa responsible for that first but they said they're waiting for further guidance on what that means and how they're supposed to allocate that out and if they're supposed to use the formula like is it based on like are they supposed to give it to poor

141schools right we're just like are they supposed to use the formula or not so ohsa says they're waiting to be told what to do so that's like Frozen amazing so the current Formula uses um 18 that's why 18 as I mentioned um these are the four areas so classroom instruction on student support building leadership and District leadership um this forecast assumes the the house version um but frankly there's no material difference whether because of our declining enrollment and our how deep we are into that guarantee um I I think the difference is like twenty five thousand dollars in one year so there's there is no material effect to the forecast this is the example that they give of how everything is funded and and the teacher student and ratios and the different other positions School

142District um and here's what where we are at um what is funded so you can see now these are using the 22 inputs um and so you can see the increases then in in 20 24 by using those input um it goes from 30 almost 30 and a half to almost 33 million but don't get too excited and then you can see that enrollment is either an average uh it's either your um highest most recent year or your average whatever's higher of the last three years or is the average but starting next year we are in full-blown Covent years that are being counted and not those ones that you saw in the beginning of that graph so you can see how that kind of goes down but there's it per pupil cost there down at

143the bottom also increases however uh there is a capacity per pupil which is basically how much can your local share your your local property taxpayers report of that per pupil amount um so there are 60 percent on your three most uh your most recent three average assessed values or or the most recent year whatever's lower um and these happen to use current numbers not 17 18 and 19 they use now which I showed you we have a huge increase in valuation and then 20 is the same kind of formula for federal just adjusting gross income and then also 20 for federal median income and then there's a local share multiplier from 0 to 2.5 so this is what ours looks like again you see all those numbers getting bigger um going out because of the

144valuation our enrollment is getting smaller um and you can see there those per pupil costs and then what they say the state's going to share of that and what is considered doable by local capacity um remember this graph of our our evaluation and only expected to grow so here is what it looks like we are the blue the state is the blue and we are the orange there is the district so you can see the discrepancy so it it may appear to someone that they're funding us eighty two hundred dollars per pupil next year when really they're giving us a little under three thousand of that and they're expecting us to come up with the other 5300 that they believe it costs to educate a student so that's how much they believe it costs and

145that isn't necessarily how much we correct yes we're not logged into any of those ratios or any of those things it's it's based on that um they're also picking and choosing which inputs are current and which ones are old these numbers are based on 22 but um so for districts that have a steady enrollment or increasing it it is helpful to update those numbers of course um it just really doesn't affect us at this point there is also restricted components for your Tech gifted English Learners um disadvantaged people impact Aid so that was phased in at zero percent and 33 and a third they continued to increase that um 50 and 67 percent which um for us is a significant increase in this department because these are our economically disadvantaged students so we do see

146some there but we're because we're on the guarantee it just kind of nuts itself out um and they also are proposing to increase uh gifted funds uh by increasing that per pupil funding from 14 now to 21 and 28 respectively um and then the transportation ones are not subject to a phase-in okay so here is um some unrestricted categories our transportation Aid our special education Aid and our targeted assistance capacity Aid that targeted assistance is provides additional funding based on a wealth measure um so it's really for people whose uh enrollment is lower than what it was in 2019 you get some targeted assistance because of that um I think there may be one year of this if I recall it'll show in the graph later that we may see a little bit of that

147because of our enrollment but again it's not anything significant we talked about dpia and then I mentioned English Learners gifted Career Tech and student wellness um which is now part of the formula so those are all restricted which means um most of these were required to report to Ode at the end of the year what we've spent them on or I shouldn't say necessarily we always have to report when they pull in our records they look at certain function codes and see if we've we've spent them in those areas designated for it for so here's all those categorical there oh yep see that targeted assistance yes we're getting some in those last three years there because of the enrollment being significantly lower than it was in 19 and um that we mentioned and then you

148can see our dpia funding does go up with those with those increases in each year um so here is up top is that per People based costs with the breakdown between local and state and then you can see the next little boxes are what our calculated funding is based on the formula based on our number of students based on all of our own current our information um and then that third set of boxes shows us kind of what our guaranteed base funding is um so where's that Mark that we're not going to get any less than we did before and so you can see it's calculating us this year at 11 and a half million but that formula fades in and all of that is about 13 and a half million then they look at

149our dpia and then that if you have any supplemental targeted which we really don't there um we got things going on over here okay so I mentioned House Bill 583 um took away some unintended consequences of things that happened so initially it required Ode to include our special education excess cost adjustment so the net of that so for students who are not residents here that we provide special education to our our designated as a special education students it's still the responsibility of that Resident District to pay for costs over and above um you know this per pupil typical tuition um and so we are we Bill other districts but we are also built for students that are residents that are attending elsewhere open enrolled or Court Place um so the net difference for us uh

150result is a positive 500 000 usually about a year um and so because of this it what once they caught it they realized that oops we're including that 500 in this guaranteed amount this this you can't get any less than this um and they made an amendment in June of last year to remove that so they held us harmless for that first year but that's why you see a drop of almost half a million for this year is because of that because that excess cost is no longer included so you can see here current funding for what our base guarantee was and then you can see underneath 23 25 especially this year we're almost a million dollars into the guarantee this year um we come off again with 22 inputs we come off the formula

151um in 24 26 27 but you can see it's really not by much um that's a that's a handful of kids I mean so depending on what enrollment does um will be a big factor we'll probably Teeter back and forth on that guarantee or be slightly above it if we're using 22 inputs for using 2018 we're going to be deep into the guarantee as most everybody will be pushed that way um so there's a summary of the total State funding and so last year it was estimated that almost 420 were on one form of guarantee and if we do not increase those inputs it's going to continue to push districts to the guarantee because their calculated amount is never going to be more than what they've already received in that guaranteed funding in Prior years

152and so they're going to continue to remain there unless there's some sort of increase to the numbers we're using that gives us money instead of just says the increases to the numbers that say your local capacity can take care of let's pick it up yeah so that's a lot of times what I think when I listen to these different webinars and how still ones and things like that that was Lisa vanderpumps yeah Ariana is the girlfriend of the she's part of scandival that's the person that got cheated on she got cheated after like nine years that's tough um so all other revenues include interest rental um those excess costs I talked about pay to participate fees pretty much everything else that's not property tax or state funding which as you know is not a ton

153we used to have open enrollment into this category as a revenue um the way it's being done now it's direct it's not being funded that way through the ferris school funding so we used to see revenue of about 3.25 million in here we also saw expenditures and purchase Services because of that that is no longer happening last couple years the interest income fell due to the pandemic however as we've seen but so far this year rates have begun to rise with the Federal Reserve strategies we're going to closely monitor those Investments so while increasing those interest rates places a little bit of risk on local economy we're able to benefit right now from the the intro interest rates and then rentals are expected to return to those and they are as you saw probably coming

154in pre-pandemic levels it's about 5.5 total revenue well other financing these are our transfers in some of these things that you won't see it on here but similar approved earlier a refund of Prior year excess cost funding for some of the six District programs that we're responsible for we employed the special education coordinator we employ we are in charge of project search and so that's split equally among the districts based on number of students that they have that are being serviced by either one of those programs we build those to each one of the six districts if applicable in the fall and then those Revenue goes here and then uh return of General funds advance to other funds at the end of last fiscal year so nothing can be in the red in a negative

155cash situation so a lot of the times our grants which we have to expend first and then ask for the reimbursement of that at the end of the year need to have a an advance there's a large one because of the construction project last year in about 2.6 million dollars and our Esser funds Tom Schwartz right here he's he does not have a knack for numbers but I do don't know what he has a knack for and this is for Dr selico destroy fun this is Sandoval we don't like him okay our restaurant together coach Schwartz and Sandy yeah yeah and they don't like each other no they like each other they're best friends they're best friends they have two businesses together one's called Tom Tom one's called Schwartz and Sandy's okay okay we listened

156to your articles Patty listen to my TV show oh I don't ever interrupt you I'm listening and I tell you who's your education what kind of education okay salaries and benefits still are two largest people business almost 80 percent historically increase almost two um and then we're looking at about 2.3 percent uh out for the rest of the forecast which exceeds our 0.5 percent um annual increase that we are projecting um still several supply chain concerns High inflation um I think we all know inflation hit up hit a high last summer and uh kind of continues um we had some things that were impacted our utilities fuel obviously our construction project which is not part of this forecast in a direct sense but it it did factor in here um so while it's expected to

157continue like I said we're not sure how long um that may be Personnel Services 56 so back in 18 and 19 all three unions a gratified agreements that increased wages two percent and one and a half percent respectively they extended those contracts for one year in 2020 with no base increase on salaries um the current contracts we have were ratified in 21 which gave base increase of one and a half two and a half and two and a half and then in addition anyone who had their step Frozen during the 11 12 school year um received that step back in 2021. those contracts are all expiring at the end of this year a couple different dates there but this summer really we're currently in negotiations with all three unions at this time um future years

158assumes the inclusion of steps for all employees and a two percent wage increase which are not guaranteed rates to just show the impact of the historical component of that that we typically give on average we've started to do this this year but as I've talked so much about our declining enrollment we do continue to analyze and audit you know classroom sizes obviously if we continue even further down we're going to have to you know really monitor that Staffing and align it to that enrollment I mean 600 kids in significant and so that's what it looks like going out Insurance 23 so Medicare retirement health insurance um back in this most recent negotiations the unions agreed to increase their co-pays and co-insurance which further reduce costs in those two years three years I'm sorry um so

159here's what it looks like next year we are set to increase 7.8 percent um we that's not atypical to us everyone is seeing large increases we have seen a spike in large claimants in the district we had two last year we have 10 this year um and so uh people what we're also seeing overall as a trend is people are who delayed treatment during covid and now are receiving treatment our further progressed in what a lot of cancer according to our TPA with the insurance there's a lot of cancer and it's further along than it would have been had it not been covid there's more more expensive more you know more interventions more more drastic things are are happening and they've got to recoup all their money from all the time that nobody was there

160uh giving them so doctors offices and hospitals are discharging more because they can um so we're also estimating eight percent here on out um but it's definitely something to keep an eye on that's a that's a significant it was it was forecasted at eight but it's still significant to not see any kind of relief there get anything kind of back again some of that could change dependent on what happens during negotiations as well purchase Services all of our professional and Technical a lot of this as I mentioned was stuff that was mandated spending or things that were previously deducted from here but now as part of the fair school funding is direct funded by stem schools scholarships those things we still pay college credit plus excess costs and so those continue to draw funds away

161from the district as and any expansion or creation of programs that are not going to be paid for by the state uh directly can expose us to new expenditures that are not currently in the forecast which I'm all sure you're aware that the Senate is probably going to unveil one of the bigger um backpack Bill basically as part of the the biennial budget and this school funding formula um the president is a very big advocate for school choice one-time increase in 22 just billing Cycles which they're all aware of this is about 13 percent supplies and materials so these include textbooks library books office supplies classroom supplies all of those things there's an increase this year and going out to include current and future textbook adoptions um the we've been able to use Esser funds

162for some of those and also for some of our cleaning and sanitation that have has gone above and beyond due to covid as well as classroom supplies that would come out of here that we have been using yes so again not a big part of the pie here only about two and a half percent overall can we go back to project Services real quick it's like do you have a question um about purchase services that we're bringing like because that that would include the ESC folks correct and we're bringing a lot of those in-house correct but it doesn't seem like that's making any debt and really so because part of it is going to be a transitionary year okay um at this point and because we don't know um some of the salaries of those

163people I know what they were there until they're actually onboarded here we don't necessarily know you know if they're choosing Insurance what kind of insurance those kinds of things um it should be a net kind of wash because we're also paying a fiscal fee for them doing it um and so it will just transfer from purchase services to um salaries and benefits and then you'll see a decrease in purchase service so in November we'll probably see that but yeah we'll have a more updated picture then I thought about putting it in but I was because I just it was very general you know numbers I thought I'll just wait and we'll see thank you for that I appreciate it yes I it took me a second to catch up with that yeah we had just

164gone through all that and I was like wait that didn't make it didn't yeah for me thank you I appreciate it um Capital outlay so these are our um equipment things that are have a life expectancy of five years or more uh major projects this year included the repairs to roof at Robert's Preston price updates to the weight room parking lot and Paving repairs um 2025 shows that a one-time increase that's about the time in the cycle to replace all the Chromebooks that we purchased during covid um and so there's a one-time increase in technology this represents about three percent and that's this year I feel so the renewal or the emergency Levy um impacts this category the most um so if you recall in previous forecasts um when we had thought we were going

165to be able to start the air conditioning projects this year before all the delays and supply chain and different things like that um there was forecasted to have more spent this year and 24 and 25 and now that's been pushed out a year so that's part of why as I mentioned earlier you see kind of a more significant cash balance at the end of this year and then you start seeing us deficit spending in the next years because we're expecting to have you know that large amount that we're we're sitting right now that we have we've collected but it needs to be used for these air conditioning projects in those next years which is why you see when you're looking at just the Year we're spending more than we're bringing in however this year you

166can see it was the opposite effect because we did not spend that money for the air conditioning we pushed it a year so those those different expenses remain part of the forecast we're talking roofs trucks vans parking lot boilers buses each year and equipment so you can kind of see those those spikes starting next year and that grass kind of you know all over the place because of that so new category so debt which commits general fund sources to its repayment have to be included in the forecast in April 23 we issued approximately 19 and a half million in debt for cops to cover the increasing costs for the new building due to inflation and labor shortages and I have a typo there it says oh I don't really know what that means uh and

167so repayment of this debt is out of the general fund it's approximately 1.2 million a year it will begin in 26 and continue through 2053 I better not be here then I won't be but um so here's where you see uh it comes into play it's previously been zero and it will start 26. mostly this has to do with our fees to Summit County Auditors and also includes election expenses for those years we had some this year as last year's result and then out in 25 and 26 for those renewal levies very small part about one percent total other financing this is kind of the opposite of the revenue side so this is a thing out this is the expenditure of them um the the revenue is them coming back in um and it you

168can see that 2.6 million was um one other thing that's on here um that could potentially uh see an increase and it has um is people can file for reductions in their property values which of course many people did after that reappraisal because of the significant increase um and so if they're approved they um we have to refund those taxes for the differences um and so we typically monitor those closely and all the in years past um to protect that we're typically looking at business you know large commercial property new legislation a few years ago restricted our ability to challenge those um and so we cannot file residential um an agricultural complaints which we previously were allowed to we can file commercial complaints if all of those things are met um again it says it

169will be indexed to inflation but in order to do that we have to provide notice and pass a resolution for each each parcel that we want to do and give and send it to that tax address of the business and we have to give them seven days in advance when you plan to vote on the resolution resolution authorizing the challenge to the valuation however um we don't get a notice if they file for reduction we used to be able to get that and so we used to get something and then we would be able to counter complain um so now we no longer receive that notice which and we have to file within 30 days of when they file so we're basically basically it's a lot of record requests work for these people at the

170county because that's what's happening the attorneys are just saying happy of everything that was in public record um however we still have to give them notice of our complaints and then they have 30 days we can't enter into settlement agreements which typically happens where we'll agree going forward on a certain valuation but say listen for these past couple years we're going to call it this and sometimes there's just a payment that's made directly in order to facilitate that so we can't and then they Board of revisions has to dismiss a case if it's not decided within one year and some of these aren't Chapel Hill was one that we were involved in in a long time for a long time and we can't appeal a board of revisions decisions so there is a board of

171tax appeals we used to be able to go to them if we didn't agree and now we can't this is Sheena it's all happening surprise she wasn't on the show but she came back for a cameo after this this Scandal yes expenditures we've talked a lot about um yeah Carrie asked how Kristen got to be back even though she was on the show well she actually was Tom Sandoval's original girlfriend in the beginning of the series and then he cheated on her with this girls [Music] no he then he cheated on Kristen with Ariana yeah I know he's with with nine years we then cheated on with Raquel we'll get there is that three chains just okay so here's what we look like in November listen watch it this is all I wanted this is

172Ellen had a summers TV show and I'm gonna want some updates as the summer goes on where you're at um so you can see um where we were in November um and where with and without the renewal levies um and then may you can see uh where we are so obviously we were only projecting about a two million dollar cash balance and now it's 4 million well that's really because that project is pushed a year because if you go to the next year um you can see the next year is about the same but the following two years significantly different um because of that that project and just a lot of the other factors I talked about so the average District in Summit County is about 36 percent cash carryover we are the sixth lowest

173in the county still um at 29.4 60 days is what ode wants industry standard is 25. we are still focused on improving our our cash position so that's what it looked like um and you can see in those two years where we added that Debt Service payment there's a difference out there in 26 and 27 because of that we still do maintain a positive cash balance throughout the forecast um here's where we're at so last year we ended like we said about 29 um this year we're looking at about 36 but you can see how that continues to go down and pretty significantly um the later years I think I did the best I could this is Raquel we don't like her either she's the cheater Rachel Rachel is actually her really real name but

174your parents I don't know so I feel like her thank you for your support you are dismissed this is Lala listen I am missing the the first episode of that reunion which I've been waiting for right now so this is on real TV not like on it's on Bravo Bravo oh you probably watch it on demand you can watch on peacock peacock yeah okay I've got people yeah yeah that's where I watch too everybody I'm a general hospital yeah I appreciate that she goes up during the week in advance to digest that I know yes we reach out with questions I popped in and answer a lot of questions as well thank you for that yeah so you can come to an understanding hi Miss Coco aye Mrs Schaefer hi Miss White hi Mr Gomez

175aye next up are her financial transactions it's recommended the Board of Education approved the April 2023 investment schedule and monthly spending reports Mr Harrison there's really nothing that I all right 1.4 for the year um but a good see that so hopefully that's helpful helpful building project among other things um all those monies are invested now which you will see next month any questions or comments on the board Miss Shafer aye Ms White aye Mr no IMG is our superintendent CEO's business consent agenda Dr Selco thank you and is recommended that the Board of Education any discussions yeah yeah just a mention a few things um the uh there are embedded in here the renewals I'm sorry the school fees that you will see that we are approving the school fees but you'll see a

176later resolution I Believe by the board to whiz is presented and then the contract or the Google Cloud backup is simply just that the system cloud is to have protection and then the SEL curriculum just to point that out that's the rethink Ed and lastly worth mentioning is the map pilot the data Science Foundation which is that mou one you've already been participating in 2023 that the board approved this is yet another one yeah I don't usually but we have a three-year contract for Miss McClure but I thought we already filled the position with Miss Bogdan so is that not right on your or is it correct that is correct um Mrs McClure intends to we've had great discussion has assured us we have an assurance that she's retiring in December this year maybe earlier

177she's got a lot of TV I do so we just have to issue it on track so she can continue okay that's what I thought but I wasn't sure yeah she's entitled to the three year okay okay but I just I know she's retiring so yeah okay she tries to stick around we just rip her position I was like Dr Soko did ask me about that as well and I said you know if she changes her mind we did make that policy change about administrative rips and so would you have for letting you know now she just asked me because it is two people doing but that the idea was that a Miss Bogdan would have time with Mrs Le Clark in the fall because that there's a lot to learn with that position so

178we want him to have that bridging time but yeah I think we got you guaranteed on that Alan I was going to come on the administrative contracts though lots of good people that I'm glad are uh in their commitment to our district so thank you to that please call the world Mrs White aye Ms Coco aye Mr Gomez aye Mr Harris aye Mrs aye thank you I am age superintendent CEOs business Dr Selco thank you it's recommended still moved second I believe this is the picture I sent you today if you were able to get into your emails it's the one Joe that I sent them the guest house that it'll look I'm going to defer to you on this anyway but I thought it was forwarded Dr selico a picture of a lake gas

179house um the difference in the guest house that was forwarded to you versus ours that we will have as ours will have a metal roof and and the brick will be very very similar similar as they can get to the Firehouse brick that's on the firehouse so 20 by 20 by 15 High structure this is for gas for the 612 construction project when we did our tour actually Mr Adams mentioned this and pointed out where it would be behind the Firehouse where they had that big pile of dirt that they were actively working on so that is what this is for and Mr burgatty assured me it will not impact any any plans that was all resolved it does evolved in the beginning on 13th Street uh underground they're moving all their vaults to uh

180level and this one is being moved because of the lane change and so it's all been planned out and according to Dominion we'll have gas on our first day of school questions yes [Laughter] okay we're ready for roll call please Coco aye Mr Gomez aye Mr Harris aye Mrs Schaefer aye aye thank you um thank you number two it is recommended that the Board of Education approved the job description for their associate the principal at the high school second this is uh kind of what we've been leading up to in some of the updates for the board as we're restructuring uh it's a lot of change at one time but I think we're going to be in a really good place so get settled but the reason for this recommendation is that um when you

181feel as though as the high school a lot of what a head principal does is a lot of management and um oversight and doesn't because that job is so big it's I always say equated to like running a district similar to a superintendent and how you're pulled in a thousand different directions and just really wanting to have a focus on curriculum and instruction and learning teaching and learning and um missing teachers and becoming better and really giving some freedoms to the old test process and really focusing on that and I believe this position will allow us to do that it will we will still have two assistant principals and this associate will will assist as well in terms of special education it's not it's not just focus on curriculum instruction because we're there take off

182a lot of evaluations for the assistance so that'll free up some time for them as well as special education meetings where this person can sit as a district representative on some of those special education meetings and those are the two big things really Drive assistant principles special education and discipline take up the most time so that is the direction which I've actually likes I believe we need that emphasis on teaching and learning at the high school at all times but four members I have a question about that too so historically we have three Associated principals they thought they were separated by the alphabet es so if we have the associate the assistant principles splitting up the alphabet then the associate would handle um like people children that are kids that are on the 504 iip

183so it would be like their reporting principle or how would that work just the still by alphabet they would be they would be assigned to each assistant principal so they just still have their cases but it might be that um right so there would be two dividing the alphabet but that person would be there to assist I when I was a principal and I had an assistant for one whole year I remember I felt she was getting bogged down and things I would just simply say like how can I help you how can I assist with the special ed meetings or if I need to be um you know help you with referrals that are getting you know way assigned to certain students but really this person to be able to attend those meetings yes

184okay right now just as an FYI I'm sorry we have different people that may step in for people now like central office folks have gone to buildings to sit on meetings because we have to have a district rep and that you can't there are so many of them unfortunately I mean we have you know 500 well 700 total special education students here which is just a challenge to get to all of those meetings so important I appreciate that they're also in charge of the behavior within the school as well I know that that takes a huge chunk of time unfortunately but it does take a huge chunk of time and the focus of education for our administrators so are you allude to it but if you just clarify for the record that this is not

185an additional position this is a restructuring of existing administrative positions yes that's correct thank you for that yes thank you make that very clear because I think it's important that we clarify that we're not creating an additional administrative position you're this is a suggestion coming from our superintendent to restructure within um existing administrative position yes and I've solicited the input of Jason Smith as well and he's he believes this would be a good a good way to go as well a platform please call the roll Mr Gomez aye Mr Harris aye Ms Schaefer aye Ms White aye Ms Coco hi thank you thank you number three is recommended at the Board of Education approves the job description for attendance liaison a second uh this position I know we've had a lot of discussion um around

186this and right now I just want to point out one is that we're just approving the the asking to approve the job description Christy and I have worked even as of today in terms of the finances to see you know where we're sitting we're not quite there completely but um I'd like to at least have a potentially move forward with this out of this position and the reason for this it's a social worker position um that we want a personal Social Work background and that is to address our chronic absenteeism which is we all know we saw is around 30 percent in our district which is extremely high and if you looked at the Historical trends leave the last couple years have really been they've been a little bit of outliers but they're still large

187and not to say that this wouldn't be a position that we'd want to have always but I think especially in light of covid we've lost a lot of children and I think we have to find a way to get them back and 40 chronic absenteeism at the high school alone which is I mean I don't think I need to point out that that's hundreds hundreds so we're trying to address that I think this is a good way to do it to have one point person that could coordinate it's going to be a team effort not one person can manage hundreds several hundred of students that that again happens at different times when they qualify for chronic absence throughout the year but we'd like to have a point person that can coordinate this I've spoke with

188Holly and she's provided with me a lot of good supporting evidence and then also in speaking with Christy that we can pay this position through established for at least another couple of years I've read the several times and it's a lot and I know that the the um it's the job description seems very big it's a lot a lot of work to do and I know we it's it's an important issue you know you know can't get kids to graduate if they're not attending school yeah it and it it is we you know we did I think can you ask that question too we modeled it off of other districts but it have taken it from various places but um there will be assistance our director of student services will have a focus on this

189we'll be there to assist Holly will be there to assist but it's it's a position that I think is is critical and you know we'll we'll this is also I'm willing to say like you know this is kind of a trial a new position like anything else could be too demanding we can certainly divide up some of these responsibilities it doesn't um wash the hands of the principal for example or school counselors they still have a role in all of this I really struggled with this one and I've shared that with Dr sulk we've got a lot of conversations about it and I made a commitment the first time Dr slalco met and I met one-on-one that if I can get to 51 yes on anything that I would vote for it I really really

190tried to get there and I told her that just the other I really tried to get there I tried really hard um and I went so far as I called a friend who does similar work in another school district and talked to them about this because I thought that friend was going to get me there and she pushed me the other way which surprised me because I was calling her in hopes that she was going to push me over the like trying it was like Alaska jumper I was really trying to get there um and I really I I'm worried about our chronic absenteeism but our our student outcomes aren't going to change until the adult behaviors do and I'm still deeply concerned about our adult behaviors and attitudes around our chronically absent children and

191I'm worried that we don't have the supports in place for these students to be successful once we get them back in the buildings and I'm at the same time still really really concerned Dr solaco knows this is a shock to her and she is our conversations about this as well about a lot of the behavior issues we're seeing in our buildings and then I feel like we haven't fully gotten our hands around those behavior issues with our kids that are showing up regularly and then we're pushing these kids in as well with not the most wholehearted acceptance of these chronically absent kids from some of our adults and so I just couldn't get here on this so I'm gonna vote against it but I gave Dr solidco my commitment as well as to my board

192members that when it comes time if this passes tonight when it comes time to hire someone I will vote to hire them because I'll support the board's uh will on this and I'll do whatever I can to support it going forward because I'll support the board as well but tried really hard it worked really hard so and I understand what you're saying to Mr go I do but I think it might help be helpful to have that I see that too I know it's a it's a tough decision it is tough yeah but this doesn't mean that we were going to go brush out and hire somebody yeah we're still gonna see what okay those for our budget and we would post and see if we get the right person okay I do think this

193kind of Falls away with the restructuring of the associate the assistant principals with delegating some of those responsibilities because the chronic absenteeism is it's worse in high school than like say the other buildings so like the focus on the high school and how the discipline is being I guess restructured and how things I'm I and I feel like 40 at the high school and then we also know it's a large percentage of the other and to have someone addressing the issue of attendance with these students and these families many times there are underlying reasons why they're not attending and those are not issues that our administrators are trained in they are trained in educating the students that show up and it is where social workers are trained is to deal with those issues which theoretically

194would impact if we can start where these students are at which is them not coming to school and the reasons why could highly affect the behavior of them once they're in our buildings and yes we have huge behavioral issues that we need to address within our buildings but I don't feel that's a reason not to get that other 40 percent of the door I think we might be surprised also as to when we have someone figuring out why we are having the problems it might not be what we're expecting I mean it might be right but I'm glad you clarified that Dr seller though that this is a social worker position that is important there are punitive ways of trying to get to the root of this but as we've talked about you know I

195was accustomed to the police officer knocking on the door and trying to you know intimidate a child to come but that's really times have changed and we need to come at it in my opinion from a therapeutic approach and I think this will help and I am very curious as to the reasons because I that's one of my demands in this is that I want to know the reason they've provided us with some of that information Mr Harris aye Mrs Schaefer aye Ms White aye Ms Coco aye Mr Gomez thank you um well uh we're nowhere we're here at the end so I just want to one congratulate our retirees that were here this evening what it's very very nice uh thanks Ellen for your work on that um nice to hear the speeches on

196both ends the the accolades and the thank you so I wish them all well in their next stage um I was able to get to bollock gives back today I was all over Christine and I were running we're chasing each other different buildings I got the five buildings today I plan on getting to the other four tomorrow just to go through the buildings and say goodbye and wish the students well and and staff and um but the bullet gives back was really neat um they were all over the Community Helping so it was really a nice thing I got some lemonade this morning first thing in the morning I just brushed my teeth so it wasn't the best but it was good it worked um and uh wishing our families I have a message going

197out to our families um when I scheduled it either tonight or tomorrow just again wishing them a good summer and thanking everyone for my first year who made it uh it's been busy I always say when people ask how my first year went I always say it's busy busy place um I talked to a lot of PTA appearance lately and and uh so again just want to thank the board for their support in in my first year and helping me get through it and looking forward to to share a lot of work ahead of us but I'm really looking forward to the summer for a little relaxation too thank you I am I board business number one resolution to waive school classroom slash educational fees for the 23-24 school year it is recommended that the

198Board of Education waive the student class fees that were approved at the May 24th 2023 board meeting today for the 2023-2024 school year to be paid for with federal funds with the following exceptions pay to participate fees Career and Technical education fees senior graduation fees and parking permits any discussion I'm very glad that we're able to do this I'm thankful to miss stoikoi for continuing to allocate the funds to do this um know that we'll be able to do it in the future with us are coming off which is going to be very challenging but thank you uh for the work that your office has done made a huge difference for our families Mr Schaefer hi Ms White aye Ms Coco aye Mr Gomez all right Mr Harris aye I said good job Debbie Downer

199I was very nice I always put down around that one um uh item two is discussion of the superintendent treasure evaluation so we have to do these by the end of July because then their new contract here starts in August um so I would propose to do it in the same way in which we did Miss doikoy's evaluation last year we haven't done a full superintendent evaluation together is this group of Board of Education who did one for treasurer I think this it's a pretty good model all right there my story um we're all good with that I'll work with Mr Jones to get those uh pieces Parts out to us um not this week probably next week I'll work with him on that um but very busy we're good with that okay good on

200that part that'll lead us into number three just interested in our June work session which is June 21st so our board next board meeting is June 14th that's a regular board meeting then June 28th there's a regular board meeting which will also be closing the financial books for the year and then June 21st is our work session um Dr Selco will be out of town on vacation that day so we need to plan start thinking about what for knowing that obviously are superintendent will not be there so we don't want to plan certain things knowing that in our superintendent will not be available to to be thoughtful about what we do and do not do um that evening part of what I would propose would be to do an executive session for us to meet

201to talk through the superintendent Treasurer evaluation that night I thought that would be a good use of that evening um and then that would give me time to type them up and get them out to everyone maybe we could do the meet with Miss doikoi perhaps on the 28th and then meet with Dr solaco in our July meeting that's a good plan I thought if that might work for everyone okay absolutely I'm thinking about typing it up getting out to everyone I'll do it like a Google doc like last year so broken I miss white cracks my grammar which I deeply appreciate it you do and I deeply appreciate it because I'm not good at grammar I can use a big word but commas are not my friend um so that makes sense and then

202we'll think about other things we did talk about that might be that June work session love to see who's available because they know that Mrs McClure will also be out of town so I have anything relating to anything her Department that would not be good to plan as well but um we had put off so I can Circle back to Mr Hutch we had asked about um usage of technology so I could Circle back with him to see if he's available that night to talk about that to talk more about how we're using modern technology in our classrooms if that would be something we want because that was something that's still on our to-do list Ms White that you had asked for so I could Circle back to him I don't know everyone's vacation schedule

203so I can see if he's available for that on that night to make good use of our time Ms soy Coy are you available on the 21st I'm I know you might not be at the July meeting you had said so that's why I wanted to make sure you will be now Okay so so um would that be a good time to talk a little bit about next year's budget well things be coming together yeah yeah so some just like hi we've talked about giving High detail we don't want we had decided that we didn't want any specific but just like some high detail before we just approve it all so and if other people of other things please tell me or email me so I can get these in there but that seems good

204okay and that that's kind of tying together some loose ends of other things we had talked about spending time on this year okay I'll work with Mr Jones to get that all together and I'll check with Mr hutch on his availability okay thank you all I am for future agenda items anything I'm missing so far yeah okay thank you committee report 612 construction core team is like yes we did meet last Thursday but I I could give a real quick report um they are going to start doing the concrete I think they are putting in the retaining walls the foundation it is the educational building um the steel structure will be in the fall and the easement we just did we passed that so that was good because they needed that and there will be

205a PO for testing and balancing and Hammond's kind of keeping up with that permanent acquisition that will come to us I believe that's for the electrical underground and they want to request for the timeline for the permits so I don't that's the town permits correct okay and then they will be meeting in the fall for the e-rate and I don't I can't remember what that is but there's no technology yeah technology but I'm not I don't know exactly but um and then um the ofcc will be meeting I believe on June 6th and then we'll find out a little more about that um and then design update the bulletins went out the approval for the elevator expansion and the order equipment and things like that all the materials 2da has to approve all these and

206make sure the high quality is maintained um let's see the questions of the site and the drawing sometimes there's change so we might need to act on a few of those pieces but um basically that was all and I thank them all for the tour and asked for when we asked when we could come back for another tour probably in the fall when we start seeing the buildings things go up which will so exciting so I would like to thank them all for the last story I think it was wonderful it went well so thank you yep Financial advisory committee Mrs Schaefer well surprisingly we talked about many of the same things we discussed this evening um five-year forecast I have a lot of things written but like literally it's the what we just heard

207the same day we talked about the renewal lobbies real estate taxes the largest source of revenue for the district making us 58 percent um about housebo 920 can't hear that enough House Bill one we talked about which was the changing the 35 to 31 of taxable values and we talked about State funding I don't think we probably need to go over again do you want to hear it again sorry we talked about um cut the cups also that was I think new information for the people that were there today earlier in the week so it's very exciting I think legislator please I'm Mr Harris Miss doik as Miss doikway said I you know we're waiting for the Senate to take a look at the budget and vote on that in early June and I'll have

208an update for the 14th meeting hopefully thank you comments Miss Coco your up first yes um congratulations to our retirees I wish them all the best and thanked them for their years of service to our district and our students and it's very evident um their love for education and students here and some of them were absolutely hilarious of a termite um in the past two weeks I know that we've all been busy and representing at different events Lemonade Day at Lincoln was the day after last board meeting in just an awesome the students do such a great job there and the teachers putting that together and they're so excited and they're all doing different things to try to get you to come to their booths and it's just the whole experience I think is just

209very educational for them from start to finish and they just make the cutest signs and the whole nightmares it was great so I was glad I got to stop by that um and then today I went to Bullet gifts back for the very little bit at the end I was at Richardson fifth grade ceremony and recognition for their promotion ceremony before that and um that those students at Bull Lake that were there working there they were working hard and I know that they had a lot of different Community projects everything from giving plants with notes out to members of the community to mulching at the school there was a lot of mulching going on I was you know these little some of the kids that were smaller with these big wheelbarrows like going around um

210and then they had the drive for the pets and they had students working at the fire station and so there was just a lot of different things going on there um so it was nice I just got to stop by for a real quick second after the fifth grade recognition program um also the thank you Hammond for the six through 12 campus tour it was awesome ticket to walk that again and to see our committee members that walked it and got and got experience because you really don't realize the vastness of that project unless you're walking it so um and then I was went to price for their PTO event last week and the fourth and fifth grade students performed and staying there and you know what there was just an energy at that school

211and with the staff and the administration that was there the way that they were interacting with the students which just awesome I don't even know what other word to use except there's just an energy there and a connection between the students and the staff and so it was really cool to see and if you have a chance and weren't there for the fourth and fifth grade performance they sang One song called sing to the moon and the stars will shine and so I went home and I researched it and there's really a cool background about that story that was inspired and written by Laura medulla she's a British singer-songwriter so if you have a time that song touched me and this was I kind of just spoke to a lot of things here here um

212lastly congratulations to all of our graduates last night at graduation we wish them well in all of their Endeavors and I didn't know what to say at the end of the school year and then my daughter received the president's education award today and inside the award is a letter from President Biden so I'm just ending with a little paragraph from the letter that was written I truly believe that you are a part of a remarkable generation one is one that is more gifted talented and tolerant than any before that's why I know the future of our nation is bright young people like you will be leading it keep studying believing in yourself and know that there is no limit to what you can do you can make a difference lift our country up and change

213the world I look forward to all that you will accomplish Ed I am up next I have been popping around town quite a bit as everyone knows um I um went to the price art show with my oldest nephew Brendan he wants me to tell you that he got to go to three art shows this year and he met three principles and he's very proud of himself and he convinced me to buy him books at all show was great um and then I went to our senior night for our baseball team and Coventry and they they beat Coventry it was I had to leave because I went to DeWitt steam night and when I left they were tied four four and it was a really good game it was really hard to leave but I

214knew that I needed at least an hour and a half to get through Steam night and I did need that full hour and a half to get through Steam night but um they did uh eventually win their last home game and it was senior night for the baseball team it was great to get to see our baseball players play to what steam night was phenomenal Miss Stewart great job to you and your team that was phenomenal all evening um so much fun the kids were just having an absolute blast and don't tell them but they were learning to you I was able to take a day off last week to go to our senior recognition and then I went over to price and joined in the clamp out there and I hung around because I

215was helping out at their field day in the afternoon so I got to just observe a little bit at price and see their um lunchroom and Miss Coco you'd be just as impressed by seeing how their lunch procedures go they just have this like system and everyone just does it and it's just magic but every kid just does it and they just know how to do it and it just happens and they're kindergarten you know the kindergarten and they all just do it and it was just like I'm sure the first day of school was not that much from being there near the end of schooling here it looks very magical and organized and it's very impressive uh I did I went to the Preston night of the Arts I took I took younger nephew

216with me because he was jealous that he had not gone to an art show and got to convince me to buy him books in a book fair so I bought him books that night and we went to the night of the Arts and it was a wonderful night of community over at Preston they did great things and then I was also at prices end of the year bash and part of their secret is they incentivized staff to come and volunteer because they raffled off a prize to any staff member the PTO said posted something and said any staff member that either helps us set up or to help or just shows up we raffled off a prize and so then they raffled off a fire pad brand new fire pit and a staff member won

217that and then also a fire pit full of all of them family um is one of our yellow families the dad speaks English the mom does not so the dad was excited and then uh the ma that he translated into Spanish for the mom and so it was like the kids realized what was happening then the dad realized it was happening that he translated the spin and then the mom realized was how it was just like this cacophony of excitement in that family is really wonderful to see and then um yesterday with our graduation practice which I really liked doing because I got to congratulate every kid at that graduation practice and then went to Lincoln really recessed to see the um last really recess under Mrs Kathy Ward and she went out with a

218bang she raised 5707 dollars and we talk about our retirees it's a hard night for my family because my favorite teacher Cheryl Beisel is retiring and my oldest nephew's favorite teacher Kathy Ward is retiring so we're taking a big hit and my family with these retirees this year and lastly last week was National Police Week and so I just want to thank our two police forces on the Cayuga Falls Police and the Silver Lake police force I was not able to go to um the National Police day memorial over here but I'd invite you to go check it out they have a new copper police officer statue that they added to it this year that's really beautiful and I know that stripper Gotti Mr Hutch Ms Grimm and miss oslin all went and represented our

219district so thank you to them as well for attending next up is Mr Harris yes congratulations to our retirees we recognize this evening um they know most of them but you know just hearing hearing the stories about them you can you know you just can't help but uh you know appreciate all that all the work capturing that cultural caring we focus on here I also uh I want to thank Hammond uh construction Jeff Adams and the folks over there for the tour of the 612 campus and thank the planning committee for coming out and joining us for that uh you know every time I think it was tour but driving by just doesn't do it just standing in the middle of that and just seeing it from that perspective is just incredible um I also

220and this was kind of impromptu but I'm very glad I attended and I thank Ward one city council person Rachel Loza for update are reminding me to attend this but I was able to stop by um honorary Boulevard which is Broad Boulevard um as a two incredible community members Bob and Lisa goldenstein were being honored the goldsteins are very active and good neighbors and help a lot of families here in this community and so I just want to thank them for everything they've done and continue to do for our uh and then graduation uh incredible um you know my my wife asked me how it was when I got home and uh you know it's besides top Tigers this is probably one of the best you know one of my favorite things about being a

221board member because not a lot of people get to experience that from our perspective I've been on stages for graduation but I've never handed graduates diplomas shaking their hand but seeing them coming towards you with that smile on their face and just gleaming is just it's it is a very incredible experience so I'm very glad we were able to participate in that and congratulations to all of them and then lastly just wishing everyone a very uh very fun and safe summer read some books um you know don't don't stop the the brain the brain fun Meredith but um you know just um wishing everyone you know be safe be safe out there so thank you Mr Schaefer the year is winding down there were still a lot of things going on I got to attend

222the Special Olympics for the first time which was very cool um it was a little warmer outside than I thought it was going to be but uh there were so many kids there just they're there thing and it was you know a lot of students from I'm not sure how many 13 different schools I think and um a lot of organization to make something like that happen so that was very exciting um see the construction tour I know we've already talked about that but it is it's so cool to see because they were pointing out this is where the Performing Arts Wing is going to be this is where the education Wing is this is what you know this is where the parking lots will be and and how everything is kind of just coming

223together and it's hard to picture it when you're looking on the paper like oh that's where everything is but then when you stand there on the ground and look around how vast this project is it's very exciting and I can't wait to go back um when they let us come back and look at more progress the price end of your bench we attended and I would like to thank Mr Coco and Miss White and Mr Gomez for picking up the slack I was walking with the cane could not do any of the Pizza serving which I did last year so I got to sit and enjoy the singing and the root beer floats off the top so that was very exciting I look forward to that every year and then also with the Lincoln relay

224I got to walk the first Survivor lap and help carry the banner let me get it halfway with the banner and then had to pass off to someone else um but it's it it was so moving to see the they had survivors there and so moving to see them sitting there in in the ceremony and we had some singing and everyone was just so happy to be there and it was it's such a great event it was you know it because I don't have the words for it but I really enjoy being able to go there and walk and walk the lap and the kids are walking they're excited about getting their little bracelets for how many laps that they do um again I was walking to the cane so one one of the kids

225can I get you something to eat and drink yes please and thank you so they got me something so I could sit down it was very exciting um and then I got to go to spur of the moment Preston had their inflatable it was like a rewards at the end of the year and they I got to see them the lunch time with the inflatables and it was so fun there was only two sets of Inflatables so they had divided into groups but they they all follow the rules and when you say feet first all feet first and I was kind of surprised because it was very exciting I thought there would be a lot more chaos but not it was very it was it was very imperfect weather for it and then I like

226what you said about graduation about seeing the student coming towards you this you're on a stage and it is a different experience to sit on a stage and look out at an audience and I think it's very cool but when they are walking towards you they're so excited to get their diploma they're walking through and they I think they've been coached you know shake with us hand grab with this one and everything and so they're like trying to remember walking towards you and they're so excited and I'm glad I was able to do that this year as well but into the year and I just want to know because my Schaefer didn't save us but she was invited to Lincoln relay recess as well cancer because they were aware that she had her own Journey

227with cancer and they choose people in our community that have a connection to Lincoln or our school district every year to be their honored survivors to lead it and so that's why she was carrying the banner and he was one of the honors well I'm going to keep it short congratulations to our 2023 graduates it is a really exciting time at the end of the year to see them all and their smiling faces and how happy they are and it's just a pleasure to hand them their diplomas and and you know just be there with them I would also like to thank our retirees for their long service and dedication to this District I didn't speak about this last time because I forgot but I wanted to thank the mayor he did invite us to

228the city state of the city address and I got to go I don't think I'd ever been to that one before it had gone to Silver Lake but it was really nice well done and what a real he's so enthusiastic and I just love that you know so gung-ho and I also made it to price as well and that was a lot of fun because that is my school where I went [Music] and my children went so yeah it's I just yeah so that meant a lot to be there and um finally I think that's about it I just wanted to thank all the teachers staff for another great year um and wish everybody a safe and happy summer that's all I did have an article but I will not read it it's too late

229so yeah I know and well Christy will you know pay attention anyway I had to get back item Jay executive session number one executive Ohio Revised Code section 121.22 G2 it is hereby move that the board adjourned to Executive session to consider the purchase of property for public purposes the sale of property at competitive bidding or the sale or other disposition of unneeded obsolete or unfit for used property second oh my gosh
