One to seven months. >> I seven more months. >> One to seven months. >> Okay. We're live by the way. >> All right. >> Okay. Ty's running awfully close. >> Generally what I do is I'll go through, >> you know, they color code them online. >> All the blue, all the red, find the context. But >> supposed to send us the >> It was for you >> file. Oh, how he uses it. >> If he does, I'll share with you. You had to sign up for the >> Oh, I didn't sign up though. Did you never get it? >> I signed up for it, but I have four. >> What are we doing? >> Canyons is really ahead technic page. >> Board of Trustees meeting. >> Oh my gosh, >> it's amazing. >> When my

son started it, the difference between that and Alpine, >> I couldn't believe it. But alpine was just so large they had a hard time getting focus areas. >> Here he is. >> Good bestie. >> Cutting cutting a little close. >> What are you guys all doing? >> Waiting for you. >> We got like three minutes. >> Do >> we do got three whole minutes? >> Live already. >> Yeah, >> we have to be live early. It just in case he has technical difficulties. >> That's usually why >> making sure it gets on. >> I'll tell you what, this >> we had no audio for a minute. So, >> ever since I've been on the board, >> this crab is always going out. >> Well, we we've even replaced the whole system at one point. >>

Several years. >> It's haunted this room. >> Electronics are haunted. >> When you go bid, >> did you guys see that Matt Grryer was selected for the Olympics officially? Good plan. >> No, I didn't. >> The Olympics. He made the Olympics. >> Oh, yeah. You were saying that >> Jeff's son, South Summit kid. >> Yeah. Wow. >> Yeah. >> That's awesome. We start early. >> I don't think you can. >> Oh, I swear. >> You can tell us a dad joke. >> I am not >> after we heard so many this weekend. I'm sorry. >> I don't even know where >> did you hear jokes from >> that guy directing us. >> Mark jokes. >> He thinks they're jokes. >> I know he does. >> I'm not >> listen to your rock this weekend. That

is the most important part. >> I'm not going to hug a tree and talk to it. >> Yeah. I can't believe you admitted that. >> I know. Yeah. >> Where did my thing go? >> That one was That was unique. >> I just had it open like an hour ago. >> We're round up. All right. Welcome everybody to the uh South Sama Board of Education meeting Monday, January 12th at 6 PM. We're going to round up. I'm sure it's close. Um want to welcome everybody that's here. We just want to make mention that Connor and Sammy are both ill from what I >> one's ill. I don't I didn't >> where one's ill and one wasn't able to make it. So, um we'll excuse them tonight. I did have an update I'll share a little

later with you from them and just note that all members are present and all right let's start with the pledge of allegiance vice president Whitmore will lead it >> allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all. >> Thank you. And uh Superintendent Mann will uh uh review the vision and mission statement. >> Okay. Vision statement. South Summit School District valuing individuals and preparing them for success. Our mission statement is to that we support, empower, and inspire individuals to promote and achieve academic and character excellence. >> All right. Thank you. All right. The uh any public input? No public input is uh was noted. Um all right, we're on to district updates. Superintendent, you're up.

Okay. First of all, just a quick measles update since uh you know, a lot happened since 5:00 on Friday afternoon that we couldn't add anything to an agenda after that point. So, just real quick, you obviously have heard that we had one case of measles that was uh at the elementary school and um and I guess a big thing I wanted to give a some shout outs to some of our staff. Um, first, uh, Amanda, our our head nurse, um, she put a ton of hours into, um, you know, we we started planning for this potential clear back in the summer and started communicating with families and she's been part of those meetings um, since the beginning and and she was Saturday and Sunday making phone calls to families to let them know um, about

the exposure and that, you know, for our students who are not vaccinated. and to let them know um that they'd be home for a certain number of days and that. So, a ton of work that she put in and also Stephanie um Kle um again, you know, after hours, it just, you know, that's the it's the it's the work that that they do. Um she really I mean, she just knocked the communication out of the park. We were able to send information to um families of students who were not vaccinated and then send separate communication to families um all over the district just letting them know of of uh the case. And um as well as providing some some basic information about measles and and what to do if they have questions, things like that.

And then um >> was that those two letters you sent us through? >> Yep. Those were the two letters that I sent you. And then I also want to um just point out uh Miss Flenders uh who was I know Saturday, I'm guessing potentially Sunday also. Um but she went into the school and she had kind of preemptively prepped her teachers to get some packets and things together, some learning packets for students. Um and she agreed to if they would get her the packets, she would go in and make all of the copies and get those things to to kids. And so Lisa spent hours and hours and hours um doing that that leg work and just and doing that lift. So I I really appreciate it being a team effort. Um we we worked

closely. there was a lot of collaboration but you know I was at USBA and uh so in the case of communication we had prepped we had previously written a lot of communication but as you know general communication needs to be tailored to fit the need and so um Stephanie and and Amanda really they just like I said they they rocked that one they knocked it out of the park so I appreciate them appreciate the work that they all did and I appreciate the work that the teachers are doing to help make sure that our kids are um that they're getting some learning packets and not just thrown out there to to to hang in the wind. So um some USBA USBA information. I don't know if you've seen, but it sounds like Jennifer Partridge was

uh from Provo was the school board member elected to USBA leadership. Um I was elected to superintendent leadership. Um and so, you know, looking forward to working with them, working with some of the legislative leadership. Um just some legislative information that's um of note. Uh the land trust money is up 20% this year. Uh so for South Summit, we're estimated to I got to put my eyes on. We're estimated to get just over $560,000. So each school's allocations will be going up. Um some of that's just from well-managed accounts, you know, and decisions. Some of it also is um a reflection of amendment B where voters approved to shift the land trust money from 4% to 5%. So the combination of those two yielded a 20% increase in in those funds to schools. Um I

I won't go through each of the priorities, but each of you have uh a handout looks like this. These are our JLC priorities for this year. Um in addition to these priorities, we're also still focusing on um local control being a a big issue. um that uh we minimize the number of education bills and we maximize the number of um of uh bills that promote local control. So any questions about any of those? Okay. Our January enrollment um we were required to provide um enrollment data to the board uh in January. And so you can you can see um on the one that we attached to uh diligent it had the April num numbers from 25. So you you'd be able to see that our enrollment is actually down on the handout physical handout that

you have in front of you and and back on the table. The column for April 126. Obviously, that's not filled in yet, but if we were to pull up the online version, you'd see the the decline from April 25 to January of 26. Um, and we'll be in the next month or so providing you with information on open enrollment outcomes as far as number of applications, um, number of applications that are approved, number that of applications that were denied. But we want to make sure that we're um transparent that our enrollment is going down. And then lastly, I just want to remind you of the diligent update that on the 17th um it's going to shift um to one platform, diligent one platform. So you'll want to be looking for emails coming in the next

few days of uh how to do that. >> A warning we got when we sign on tonight. >> Okay. Yep. >> So, it's just a different We'll update the school website because that's >> everything will be the same. It'll just be how you log in, >> how you do it. >> Um, >> it it'll be like it should be just like non-existent to the community. >> It's just how you log in will be changing. >> That's all. Yeah. Okay. >> That's the big thing is multifactor authentication >> on the enrollment numbers. Yep. Y >> on the electronic copy, I didn't notice the overall, but it looked like the high school is up by like 35 or something. >> The high school is up some. They they they picked up a they picked up a good

size class. So that that's one of the things that kind of happens. >> It's not that we have new >> class graduated come in. >> That's right. >> But so the elementary and the middle school must have lost quite >> Yeah. Yep. Yep. >> And Silver Summit's down quite a bit. And Silver Summit's down quite a bit too. Yeah. So, >> yeah. Do if you want, we can pull those numbers up. >> I'm sure you saw them. >> October counts. >> Well, I accidentally put the >> Oh, the >> January one numbers on the wrong spreadsheet and uploaded the wrong spreadsheet. So, >> that this one you have in your hand, the physical one is the one that's on the website. >> Where's the big class that's been going through for a while? Are they

freshman now? >> Freshman is is a decent size. That's why the high school's up. >> Wasn't there one class that was >> fifth grade? >> I I think you generally I think our the trend is we see a larger class every few years. >> Okay. >> It is the freshman class. They have 140 in it. >> Yeah. >> Any questions? All right. >> All right. Thanks, Superintendent Adam. >> I don't have anything tonight. >> Um, and then are you going to do the C the master? >> Yeah, we can. You want to talk about it or I can talk about it? >> Yeah, go ahead and talk about it. So, one of the things as we go to the master planning update that we really need to discuss is really kind of our timing on

the 20-year facility plan. Um, you know, that we're going to get to MH that MHTMN is giving us. Uh and there's been some thought that maybe we should not try to bond this coming election uh to ensure that the community has enough um you know that we have the opportunity to to get input from everybody. And so um but it's key if you want to stay with that timeline that we kind of get going now because there's a lot that has to happen if we're going to try to go for October. >> How about if we get going on it right now and get ready for the next cycle? >> Yeah. And we will >> don't don't do nothing until this time. >> No, no, no. >> I think what that's not it. >> Yeah.

What we're talking about is we're wanting to um we're wanting to get as much stakeholder input as possible and um and so the conversation that we've had with MHTN is we would we would definitely start now. In fact, we're meeting with them again tomorrow to go over some survey things. So, we would continue to move forward, >> right? >> But but what what holding off an extra year or two, whatever. What one of the benefits of that is we can actually get the input. We can go through the input, read the input and and start to make adjust, you know, code that information, code that data and start to make adjustments. Um, >> we will start having open open meetings about it prior to this year's election. >> Yeah. What would have to happen is

we would have had to start public input next month. >> Yeah. >> And that's really quick >> and we're just trying to get staff input right now. That's really what we're trying to get >> first and then we can start the community stuff. So >> yeah, >> it's just we just want to get your wishes what how you want us to go. But I think our recommendation is that we that we continue the process but we don't push so hard that we miss input from our stakeholders >> because I think if we do we might lose some trust. So >> I think you need to be as transparent as possible. >> Right. >> Agreed. Yep. >> All right. >> Well, I I think in doing this, we'll need that. To me, what helps sell is

having an actual 20-year plan >> and these guys are working on feasibility and everything else. So, I think putting it off, like you said, continuing to work so we're not standing still. >> Yeah. >> Um, is the right way to go. >> I would imagine we'll probably start having public input probably summer or fall >> is what, right, >> is the timeline. I >> probably while school's in either before we leave or when we come back. So, >> do we >> and maybe two two or three times, you know, it it'll be multiple times >> for something like this. Do we typically partner with somebody to help us develop the message and then help us >> I think that's what leadership kind of wants. >> Want to hire a public? >> We got Tai for

a living. >> Yeah, we we didn't do that last time. I think at the end we put a little bit of money towards it but not enough. >> No, I I I agree with I >> get a public relations firm >> that can message it. >> Help us develop the message and then help us with the strategy on how do we get it out. >> Um we s I've seen a number of presentations at NSBA with with companies that that's what they do. >> Okay. >> Based based on our last couple of goounds because I was hot and heavy in the middle of all that. There's not too many people in the valley that don't want us to have good facilities and stuff for our kids, but they want to make sure that we' have

went through with what we had last time, it' have been maybe a waste because our growth hasn't grown near what we thought it was going to. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Yeah. We're probably in a better position now. >> So, are we good to start public hearings without having them public relations firm? No, I think >> I would think we don't want to start them until we've gone through that process. >> Yeah, I think the first where we're where we're moving forward right now and certainly you know what you think um is what what you want to happen, we'll make sure happens, but we're just now um hopefully finalizing the first survey for staff tomorrow with MHTN. So, Adam and I went through it today um and uh we've got lots of edits and questions and

things. We want to make sure that we're we don't want to um we don't want to survey people to death. And if you make a survey too long, people just start going c or you know right down the middle. So um we're wanting to make sure that what we do is meaningful and that it's short enough that it's people take it seriously. we'll get that that first bit of information when that survey closes and then we can start to code that and then I think that's you know from there we start looking at okay based on this information what what trends are we seeing we may at that point start gathering parent input and then and then go through a similar process and then after the parent input then we invite community at large into

some public meetings and that but I think If we have some good staff data and some good parent data, that will help inform what we need to be prepared for for a public meeting. >> Another aspect you probably ought to have is current current status of your buildings. >> Yeah. We have a we have a really >> we're even thinking about it. >> Yeah. We have a really good condition assessment report that we did what two years agoish. >> That that just needs to be out there. >> Yeah. Absolutely. So, >> right in the front of everything. >> Yeah. It's a good point. >> This is what we got. this is what we're going to do about it, >> right? >> We'd like to do about it. We need your input. >> Yeah. >> Yep.

>> And I think it's really important that we get community input because, you know, you look at what NorthSummit's going through right now. We don't want to do that. We want their input. We want to, you know, so and I think the more input we get, the better product we'll give. >> So, >> all right. Any other questions on uh 20-year plan? >> Just one question. What was that? What law are they trying to pass that has to do with school bonds? >> Well, a referendum bill. >> Oh, just that they could if it failed or if it passes, they could get enough signatures. >> This is the least cost or the least revenue bond there that >> I thought it wasn't related to that. Well, they're they're they ran last year and they'll run

again this year. Uh a bill that would allow people to refer, you know, to do a referendum on um >> any on Yeah. on any >> Oh, >> bond. A lease revenue bond doesn't require stakeholders approval, which is horrible way to go, >> right? >> And that's the vote North Summit got. You know, >> the other the other issue that's going to play into this is the 5% on the there's a bill right now that they've written that you can't go above 5% of your current rate. Um so, you know, if we need and I don't know what the I'd have to really crunch some numbers to see what percentage that would be, but um >> the rates >> if the rates above 5% we wouldn't be able to do it either. So, they're really

tying our hands on a lot of things. So, >> okay. All right. Any other questions? All right. Hearing none. Um, moving on to item number four, procedural updates. Any questions on those procedures? I will say the last procedure, the transportation. Um, we'll bring that back. I met with um Jennifer and Wes today. I think that transfer tape that version I think is the wrong version than what they were wanting. So we we were working on that today and they're going to finish working on that and we'll we'll get that on for the next month. But it mainly dealt with discipline, you know, code of conduct type violations and things. I do have a couple comments um like on the on the housing one, how serious are we about doing housing for? >> So, we have

two rentals right now and that's what this procedure really helps identify in the >> or those are rentals from the property that we >> correct and the property >> we're not thinking about building. >> No, no, no. >> Okay. any other >> um on on 5061. >> Yes. >> Where where the I think it's the um >> we're changing from the the evaluation >> yeah so you had a one effective two's partially effective >> and three's not so the the >> is okay because it doesn't says three and it's crossed out and then it has four non-effective so it might you might want to reumber that yes number four to three. >> Okay. No, thank you. Because there there this the way the state does it now, there's only three. When you were principal, there

were the four. >> They did away with the with >> So the in the procedure, you got one, two, three crossed out and a four. >> Okay. >> So I just >> Yeah. >> Cross out four and put a three there. >> Okay. Thanks. >> I wonder if that's part you know how it automatically number does numbers in word. It could be something like that. I don't know. >> Okay. >> Probably. >> Did you catch that though? I didn't, but I will when I go through and >> accept things like that so people know I'm actually reading my impressive. >> Anything else? Fine. >> Um 5071. Oh, that the volunteer packet. I went through that and if I had to go through all that, I'd say the hell with volunteering. How bad do we want

volunteers? Can we simplify that a little bit? What like what specific part are you talking about? >> Any of it. I mean you just look at four page thing you got to read through and then sign at the bottom of. >> So we like >> we mirror I think our volunteer requirements mirror state code and I can verify that but >> I mean every volunteer gets fingerprinted everything. It's >> at the top >> and it's at our cost. >> I know you know >> that was something changed a few years ago that >> it included all volunteers. that I would not volunteer. >> Yeah, I know. I agree. Unless you had elementary kids, then you would because you'd have >> probably not >> I'd trust I'd trust Lisa to do >> 100 volunteers at the

>> Wow. >> They come for the Halloween parties and the >> And they all have to get fingerprinted and everything. >> Yep. >> Yeah. you know, >> and uh and when something comes back on a background check, if anything comes back, then >> we have No, no, we have a a process that we go through. A lot of times there's something that comes up that's 10, 15, 20, 30 years old that really has no bearing. And so, but we we make sure that uh we're we're covered when it comes to people who are going to be working with our kids. So, >> yep, >> that's an answer to that question. No, can't simplify. >> He would like to. We'd all like to. I would like to. >> All right. Okay. Um, any other questions on

the procedural updates? All right. Moving on. We'll move on to the action items, consent agenda. Any questions on the consent agenda? Oh, and I I was just wondering on the 5084 on the reduction of staff. >> Yeah. >> Do we even have to put that number four part in there, the last hired, first fired? Seems to me like having that in there that gives the person that you know if you if you had one that wasn't hired back or say say they're last hired >> right >> and you ended up firing them or reducing them. Can they come back and say you only you did that and your policy says you don't do that? >> No. No. What >> you know what I mean? Um, >> does that give them a place to argue or

can we just >> I don't think so >> without that at all. >> Yeah, I don't think it does because that actually went through um attorney the attorneys um and in fact that that line specifically is right out of model policy. So, it really just says that we can't you so you know what it says, but I'm just saying if if I'm if I was the last hire and you fired me anyway. >> Yeah. Can I come back and say, "Well, it says right there you won't do that." >> No. >> But then you just have to show the the evaluation say we suck. >> Well, so here's here's kind of the way I look at at this and and if there's a better way to word it, I'm then I say we we want

it to be as clear and transparent as possible because that's why we have this >> didn't want there to be a >> Yeah. a loophole kind of thing. >> Oh, that they can try to come back. >> Reviewed it and she didn't have a problem. No, it really is just saying that we can't for purposes of the riff >> just say last hired first fired. But if if uh all let's just say that you're you have two two people and you know a lot of times we think of teachers when we think of riffs but this is true for classified administrative doesn't whatever you have two employees all things being equal you're generally you know evaluations everything being equal you generally would riff the person who was hired last >> um but this doesn't tie

our hands one way or the other but it's I appreciate the question because I want to make sure it's as clear as possible because I've had questions some people worried about this procedure saying well >> what does this mean or you know >> I was just kind of reading it being advocate okay so if I was this person and I got fired anyway do I have a way to come back and say well you're going against your policy >> yeah I don't think so okay >> the attorney doesn't think so that was her recommendation and I definitely am not an attorney So, >> I play on TV. No, I don't. >> All right. No, great question. Any other questions on uh the consent agenda? All right. I entertain a motion for the consent agenda. I'll

make a motion to approve the consent agenda to include the December 8th, 2025 work session minutes. the December 8th, 2025 regular session minutes, the financial and payment reports, the SSFC new hires and substitute teachers, the volunteers with approved background checks, the homeschool affidavits, and the policies for second reading. >> I'll second. >> We have a motion. We have a second. All in favor? >> I I >> Any opposed? Motion is unanimous. Um, I did notice the difference in the revenue reports in extended. Is that okay? >> Yeah, I liked it. Better. >> It was better. >> I thought they were good. >> They were They were better. Um, >> much more useful as review. >> So, I just >> easier to read. >> They're easier to read. So, I just want to throw that comment

out that I >> digression to me. >> Defin I think they were definitely a lot easier. >> Okay, cool. >> All right. Um, all right. Moving on to board items. >> Hey, Matt. >> Yeah. >> Just on the on the the homeschool applications, do we know why they're choosing homeschool? >> Um, we ask, they don't have to tell us. Um, some families, um, if sometimes it's that they don't like a, you know, sometimes it's a staff a personnel thing. Other times we we actually have families that will homeschool their kids every year at certain the same time of the year. I don't know why >> vacation, >> but I can imagine, you know, so um that that is the case sometimes when when those come up. Um Don's really good at, you know, we we

try to ask to get that information. >> They're in my district. I'll call them. >> Yeah. >> But that was Woodland, so I didn't figure it was any my business. >> Yeah. That is Tai's district. >> Yeah. >> All right. >> Um, board items. Um, Dan, what do you have for us? >> I have nothing. >> Nothing. >> I'm good. I've said enough. >> Ty, >> nothing. >> It was so great to go to the USBA conference with all of you. I I I thought the sessions were decent at the USBA. Um uh we did uh schoolands trust was it was interesting to hear from the state representative of how what they look at. So I thought that was great. Um everybody did uh I just want to note that uh the certificate >> the

master board certification from the >> all of us did >> USB and USBA u we did achieve that. So that congratulations to everybody uh for >> and I did talk to the lady at the desk and they'll be emailing us when the new one is >> okay >> available and I asked her to put a link with it. She said she would. >> So everybody got that done this year. So that's fantastic. I think the training is really good. Uh and they do update it I think every year. So >> even if you've taken it um >> you have to take a test and pass it. >> Yes. >> Detailed man. Do we need to do open meetings training and that that will happen in you have to do that every year? >> January January.

Is that when we do it? >> I think so. >> Is that when we decided we were going to send it out in January? >> It comes from the state. Then I can just give you that certificate, right? >> I think so. >> Yep. Um, >> we used to do it more um, May, June, and then it didn't make sense when a new board member came on because they needed to do it in January. So, I think we talked about um, >> I think we talked about doing it in January, February. >> Yeah, I'll send the link out tomorrow. >> We'll do it in private. >> Yep. Just like we >> just want it. Yeah. The other one that I want to just throw out to the board is we had um >> uh there's

some AI training that we've looked at. Um if anybody would like to participate in that >> um there's a nominal fee about $275. Uh the typical fee is around 1,200 is what I saw. >> Four four modules. One of them is talking about setting policies. So if anybody's interested, I will just say get it with Adam or >> I've got it. I've got the information >> superintendent and we'll get you signed up so you can do it if you're interested. >> That would be interesting. Is it is it like asynchronous type training we can sign on to anytime or is it >> Yeah. Okay. >> You can you looks like online modules. >> Are you doing it as well? >> I'm going to do it. >> It was uh it was from NSBA. They're partnering

with another national group. >> That's a great discount. >> Yeah. So, I thought it would be >> Adam. I'll do it. Okay. >> Yeah, I'll do it as well. figure out what the crap it is. >> We're We're going to I've had Dan look at it. Dan Lim. >> Okay. >> Dan and Joe, they're going to they want to go through it also. And just in looking at the modules, the you know the course descriptions and things. I think I um in our next admin PLC, we'll talk about it, but it's something that I'm I I think we'll make available for principles as well. It does say that it is good for school leadership. So that's something that we'll offer to. >> But we don't need to tell you because now you know. >> All

of you want to do it. >> Wanted to do it. >> Dan, you want to do it? >> No. >> Okay. >> All right. >> Um, just remember it's artificial intelligence. Wait. >> Yes. Artificial intelligence. >> So, just one last thing, just the flights because we looked this weekend and they were high. But just if someone's looking and you find out they're cheap, text everyone. Yeah, that'd be fantastic >> because it I think it's sitting at about $1,000 right now. >> So, we want to get it down >> to Texas. >> Uhhuh. >> That's ridiculous. >> Just Just in case we don't go, when do you need to know by? >> February 20th, probably. >> I think that's what you put in the emails. >> I don't remember. >> Yeah, I think you said you

had to cancel by then. >> Going out of town for two weeks in April. So, I just don't know if I can swing another >> day off that month. All right. Um, last >> I >> think I'm going with you, right? >> Yeah. >> Last item on the agenda is the update from the school board members. They did send something out. This is from Connor. He says the the school grades are back from the state and they got commendable scores in growth and achievement. So, that's great.
