Dear heavenly father, as we come together today for our schoolboard meeting, I ask that you guide and direct us in our discussions and preparations that our decisions may be in the best interests of our children and pleasing in your sight. I pray for all community members, not only those within West Mullen County, but in the state, country, and world as we navigate to live in this world with others and overcome the pressures and complications of the day. There are many today who are cold

004and hungry, Lord, both in body and spirit. I pray that you will lay your hands upon them and bring them nourishment, warmth, comfort, and peace. Help us to find that place within each of us that reaches out to others to bridge gaps and biases, feed the hungry, house the homeless, and love those who seem unlovable. As we come to the end of another school year, please be with our students as they move to the next stages of their lives. Whether it be on to graduation, back for summer school, or spending their days getting ready for the next school year. Let your light shine in each of us as we touch the lives of others in our everyday activities. I pray these things in Jesus name. Amen. >> Amen. Thank you, Miss Nathan. >> Let's stand

006recognition for April. >> Yes, sir. We have some good attendance at all of our schools for the month of April. For student attendance, the average daily attendance for COPL was 95.01%. for Washington District Elementary 95.35%. >> For Montrust Middle, 94.7% and West Morland High School 92.73%. So by a smidge, Washington District ees it out over Copel Elementary School. You didn't have to bring it back. >> I broke it. There was a >> congratulations. >> We have to get that repaired. >> Might need to order. And then for um staff attendance, Copel Elementary 89.6%. Washington District 93.08%. Montress Middle 92.03%. And West Morland High School 88.15%. So, come on back up. Dr. repass Washington district wins by 1% over Mont Trust Middle School >> Dr. Reass. Congratulations. >> Thank you. >> Awesome. And as always we

007do appreciate everyone that uh strives for high attendance. So okay next uh Mr. Beanfield character trait honores for April. >> Um for April it is cooperation and we'll have our principles come forward to share the honores. >> Good evening. Um, Copa Elementary is proud to present Zaniah Halcott as our uh, student of the month for the trade of cooperation. The fifth grade team nominated Zaya as she demonstrates cooperation towards others daily. She is not afraid or shy to branch out to play with others at recess. She is always willing to work with classmates during partnered or group assignments. We can always count on Zia to greet others with a smile and making them feel welcome with wonderful compliments. For these reasons and more, we nominate Zia Ha as student of the month for April. Way

008to go. Good evening. Um WD student of the month this month is Gunnar Collins. Um and his teacher nominated him as he's a fine example of a student who shows cooperation with both his peers and his teachers. He is able to maintain kindness and patience while working well with other students in a small group setting. When working on tasks together, Gunnar listens to others and is diplomatic in discussing the proper solutions for the problems they are working on. He is cooperative with his teachers during task and is willing to make adjustments as asked and always keeps his go with the flow attitude. He is cooperative with our custodial staff in the lunchroom. often taking on tasks when asked and always has a good attitude about helping the whole family. >> Yes, it is all boys.

009Okay, everybody look at me. There you go. Good job. Let me try one more. Look at me. There you go. Good job. >> A girl. Thank you. >> I'm standing on the principal lunch and our nominee is Lucy Taylor. Lucy is not able to be here, but the teacher wrote, "Lucy consistently demonstrates outstanding cooperation by working respectfully and positively with peers and adults. She was always willing to help others, contribute to group success, and maintain a positive attitude. Her teamwork, kindness, and ability to cooperate, excuse me, collaborate make her a valued member of the school community. Congratulations, LUCY. MR. Bath had a family engagement tonight. So, I'm Courtney McCondville and I'm subbing in for West Morland High School. Um, and the student of the month is Courtney Shannon. and what the teacher said. Courtney is

010an exceptional student who consistently demonstrates kindness, responsibility, and maturity both inside and outside of the classroom. She always comes to class with a calm and positive attitude, and she approaches every task with a willingness to do her best. Courtney is dependable and respectful, and she always can be counted on to complete what is asked of her without hesitation. So, Courtney Shannon for West Morland High School. THANK YOU. >> Oh my goodness. Wow. I did offer to take a long way. >> You did. You did. >> Okay. >> So, Miss Rice, did we did we have any written public comments that were submitted prior to our meeting? >> No, sir. >> Okay. Do we have any public comments from anyone present? >> Okay. Don't see any. So, our public comment period is now closed. Next we

011have our consent agenda, personnel appointments and resignations and also you have copies of school division bills and school nutrition bills. Is there a motion to pro approve the consent agenda? >> Amy. Okay. Is there a second? >> Second. President may. >> Okay. Thank you. Miss Richards, how do you vote? >> I. >> Mrs. Maym, >> I. >> Mrs. Miner, >> I. >> Dr. Wallace, >> I. >> And the chair votes I. And the consent agenda is approved. Next, Miss Rice, donations at school gifts. >> Yes, sir. Um, we have a long long long list of generous donations. So, I'm not going to read them all aloud because it would take quite a few minutes to do so. But, um, wanted to present this list to the school board for your approval and express our appreciation

012for all of the many, many donations that were made this month to our schools. Um there were many items given for staff and teacher appreciation. Um as well as items given to specific groups and clubs like chorus, yearbook, senior class. So quite a few nice things. Okay. Well, as you know, we're always very grateful for all these gifts and that is quite a long list. So uh it it shows uh how much community support we have as well as from individuals and organizations. So in accordance with our policy KH is there a motion to approve the donations as presented by Miss Rice. >> So moved. >> Andrew Wallace. So moved. >> All righty. Is there a second? >> So move or seconded. Sorry. >> That's okay. All in favor signify by saying I. >> I.

013>> Okay. Thank you again, Miss Rice. Okay. Next, uh we have summer hours for 12 month employees. Miss Rice. >> Yes, sir. >> This uh request is uh just like the same request we make every year at this time. Uh we're requesting again this year that offices be closed on Fridays beginning with May 29th and ending Friday, July 24th. and that the hours of operation for the summer be Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. >> Okay. Any questions for Miss Rice? >> Okay. Is there a motion to approve the summer hours for 12 month employees as presented? >> So move. >> Is there a second? >> Second. Amy Richards. >> Okay. Mrs. Richards, how do you vote? >> I. >> Mrs. Maym. >> I. >> Mrs. Miner. >> I. >> Dr. Wallace >>

014I >> chair votes I and the summer ads for 12 month employees are approved. >> Thank you Miss Rice. >> Okay, next uh summer academy Miss Steel and Mr. McConville looking to see if she wanted to start if I did. We're excited to announce the summer academy again this summer. Um we will have that all all four schools. Um this year it will be K12. So we're excited about that as well. You can see the dates uh June 1 through June 25th. Um nothing on Fridays. And then our staff workday is uh May 27th. And this is just a teacher pay and staff pay that I know you guys are very well aware of. Um for summer school. This will be our student schedule. They'll go from 7:45 to 1:45. Their breakfast is a grab

015and go in the morning. So, they get their breakfast and then go to class. And then obviously we'll provide lunch every day. Um, and something that I think is really wonderful is we provide transportation for all students, which is really nice for summer students. >> For um, elementary, as you can see, we included KM1 this year. Um, so K5 um, the focus will continue to be reading and math. Um, instruction will be small groupoup instruction, remediation and retaching. We'll bring science and social studies in through project based learning. And we'll also have related arts um for the students this summer as well. And then for middle school, they're focusing on English, math, and science. Um really focusing on small groups and remediation and using data and information we have to really target the instruction at

016the middle school level. Um, at the high school level, we're we're still at that point of testing and figuring out all the programs we are going to have. Um, but it will follow the same schedule that we did last year. Um, with some more opportunities to include um, econ and personal finance. Hopefully, we are adding this summer. Um, the number of students that could go up or down at the secondary level, it's who we invite right now. And then we'll by next time be able to tell you how many we actually have attending. A big focus at the high school level is on so performance. We really want the students to go ahead and have the opportunity to get remediation and retest uh coming right out of the school year versus waiting to the fall

017or even possibly the spring depending on their schedule in the areas that they don't have a lot of success. That's something Mr. Bathgates worked really hard on bringing to the high school the last two years. Um, again, some of the courses, it will depend on who's where our students are and who needs what. Um, and then based on numbers, they'll make the final determination on all that we'll be able to offer at the high school. >> Current enrollment um for Copel Elementary right now there are 81 students whose parents have submitted um the registration form that they will attend. Uh Washington District 69 Montrust Middle 103 and >> yeah it's going to be lower than that but that's what we're inviting or looking at potentially >> so all those are invited numbers >> some are

018finaliz elementary is um number of students who have whose parents have signed them up to attend >> so so far we have 81 for COP and 69 for How does that compare to last year? Do you know? >> Um, more so far. >> Okay. >> And for secondary, it it will it will go up and down a little bit, especially at the high school depending on how many will actually sign up. Um, so those numbers aren't fixed for the high middle school yet, but I'm assuming middle school probably be around 90 and the high school probably around 100. Probably be a little bit more realistic. Um, I did want to say it's been a a lot of great team effort. The assistant principles came for a meeting. Um, Dr. Temple, Miss Steel, and Mr. Evans,

019everyone involved in getting technology and everything up and running for summer school. Um, so we're excited to get it going. >> Okay. Any questions or comments from board members? Okay. Well, we very much appreciate the update and the information. So, >> great. appreciate everyone involved in making this happen. So, thank you. >> Okay, Miss Mayan, do you have a update from the Northern Technical Center? >> No, I don't. >> Thank you. >> Okay, Dr. Wallace, do you have anything to report on Chesapeake Bay Governor School? >> Uh, yeah, just a little bit. Um, Thursday is our last day of classes at the Governor's School. Um, looking ahead, um, August 10th and 11th is going to be the new student orientation days. So, that's going to be on us before we know it. August 10th and

02011th and then all of our students return on August 12th for the um, governor's school. >> Okay, >> that's it. >> Okay. Thank you, Dr. Wallace. Okay, Miss Rice, upcoming events. >> Yes, sir. Uh, normally during upcoming events, we just share upcoming board events, but we have a few other important dates on here for you. Um, tomorrow on the 19th, the fifth grade moving up ceremonies take place at both of the elementary schools starting at 9:00. And then on May 20th, the 8th grade moving up ceremony takes place at Montros Middle starting at 9:00. And then on May 23rd, we have high school graduation starting at 9:00. And uh just announced uh that high school graduation due to the forecast of all the rain u looking at moving indoors. So Mr. Bathgate uh will be

021sharing that information out right on the heels of me sharing it out. So we wanted you all to hear first. Um then June 5th, VSBA school law conference is coming up short pump or virtual. July 16, the VSBA conference on education in Virginia Beach. And then our master board renewal training comes up in Charlottesville and uh the board did complete several members of the board and the governance team and the central office leadership team completed fiscal governance training and Mr. Evans has put the press release and some photos on the division website. So that's a big accomplishment and we are done. Any questions for Miss Rice? Anyone? Okay. And on the fifth grade moving up ceremony, uh there will be since at the same time there will be board representation at each of those. So,

022>> and I thought I would be able to go to the eighth grade, but I won't. I'll be a lunch appointment. >> Okay. But you'll be able to do the >> moving up the fifth grade. >> I will be at fifth grade. >> Yeah. Okay. >> Yes. >> Okay. Thank you for letting us know about the eighth grade. >> I'm sorry. >> I don't know. >> I just might have to move eighth grade. >> Yeah. You think you'd ever hear the end of that? >> No. My daughter would kill me. >> Yeah, >> we get that. So, Miss Riches, do you have any additional comments this evening? >> Um, just want to say thank you to the principles and the entire staff for another great year. >> Anything else? >> Okay, Miss Nah, >> but

023thank you all for everything and everything you continue to do. >> Okay, Miss Mars. No, just ditto what Miss Richard said. >> Perfect. >> Okay, Dr. Wallace, anything? >> I have nothing to add. Thank you. >> Y Well, it has been a great school year. Uh we've had quite a few things to celebrate and um it's because of I think everyone. So, we greatly appreciate uh everything that all of you have done. Miss Rice, do you have any additional comments? No, sir. Just we're almost we're almost there, y'all. >> Almost there. >> And our next uh school board meeting, uh we have a school board work session on June the 2nd, beginning at 5:00 PM. On Monday, June the 8th, we have an executive close session beginning at 5, open session beginning at 6. And

024at this time uh the board will take a very brief recess and the board will go back into close session. So this concludes uh basically the open portion of our regular board meeting. So thank each of you for coming. You can stay after the executive session if you would like to home and
