001like to call our meeting to order. Good evening to everyone. Um, whether or not you join us in person or remotely, I would like to ask each board member to state his or her name when making or seconding a motion or when speaking. At this time, I'm going to ask each board member and our student representative to verbally indicate their presence when I call their name. Mrs. Rosemary Mayan >> here. >> Mrs. Rebecca Miner >> here. >> Mrs. Amy Richards >> here. >> Dr. Daniel Wallace >> here. Miss Sydney Bedford >> and I am Ralph Fallon. At this time, I need a motion to verify that our closed session was conducted in accordance with the Code of Virginia section 2.2-3712, paragraph D, and that only matters exempted from open meeting requirements and only matters identified
002in the motion to go into close session were discussed. Is that such a motion? >> Dam. So moved. Is there a second? >> Second. Rebecca Meyer. >> Okay. Miss Bonner, how do you vote? >> I. >> Mrs. Mayan. >> I. >> Mrs. Richards. >> I. >> Dr. Wallace. >> I. >> And the chair votes I. And the motion to verify our close session has been approved. If there are no objections at this time, I'd like to ask Mrs. Amy Richards to lead us in prayer. Mrs. Richards. >> Let us pray. Dear heavenly father, we come before you now humbly as we know how. Dear Lord, we thank you for allowing us attend another school board session. Lord, we thanks for all those who are in attendance. We pray that everything that we're do and say
003will be done in decency and in order. Dear Lord, we pray that you will continue to give us wisdom that we would meet the needs of each student every day, Lord God, that when they graduate, they will be able to be successful citizens. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. Amen. Thank you, Miss Richards. At this time, let's stand and honor our country by reciting the pledge of allegiance. >> I pledge algiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> [clears throat] >> Is there a volunteer to read our statement of vision and our statement of mission? >> I'll read that. >> Thank you. >> Um, our vision is to provide an exemplary learning environment
004that empowers all students to find their voices and make meaningful contributions to the world. Our mission together we nurture the unlimited potential of all students through inclusive authentic learning experiences. Okay. Thank you, Miss Bonner. In accordance with our policy, during our first regular session in the new calendar year, we have a we hold this school board organizational meeting. At this time, I'm going to ask our superintendent, Miss Rice, to preside until a chair is elected. >> Thank you, sir. >> All right. Good evening, everyone. Uh our first order of business is to elect a board chair for the upcoming term. So are there any nominations for board chair? >> I'll make a recommendation of Ralph Allen for board chair. >> Are there any other recommendations for board chair? No other recommendations. Uh could we have
005a second on Mr. Fallon for board chair? >> And we'll do a voice vote. Miss Richards. >> Hi. >> Miss Mayan. only because this is in violation of some policies that we had agreed to or id hoped we had agreed to last year. I'm going to vote nay. >> Dr. Wallace >> I >> Miss Miner >> I >> Mr. Fallon >> I >> and the eyes have it. So, I will uh gladly relinquish my uh leading of this meeting. Back to you, Mr. Powell. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> Okay. So, at this time, we need nominations for vice chair. >> I would like to nominate Amy Richards for vice chair. >> Okay. Do we have any additional nominations for vice chair? Okay. Hearing none, our nominations for vice chair is closed. Miss
006Monner, how do you vote? >> I. >> Dr. Wallace, >> I. >> Miss Maym, >> I. >> Miss Richards, >> I. >> And the chair votes I. And Miss Richards, congratulations. You are our vice chair. So, thank you. Okay. Next, we have nom need a nomination for our clerk of the board and deputy clerk of the board. Superintendent Rice, do you have recommendations for clerk and deputy clerk? >> Yes, sir. I recommend that uh Tina Sumpter continue as clerk of the board and that I continue as deputy clerk. >> Okay. All in favor of appointing Miss Tina Sumpter as clerk and Miss Rice as deputy clerk, please signify by saying I. I. >> All oppose say no. >> Okay. Congratulations to both of you. Okay, next we need a representative and an alternate for the
007Chesape Peak Bay Governor's School. Dr. Wallace, I believe you are our current representative. And if I remember, Miss Richards, [crying] I believe you're the alternate. Is that correct? >> Okay, Dr. Wallace, uh, I'm guessing you would probably like to >> I would love to continue >> to continue. >> And and um I don't know if any other members would like to be the representative. >> And Miss Richards, would you like to continue as alternate? >> Yes. >> Is anyone else interested? >> Okay. So, is there a motion to appoint our representative and our alternate to the Chesapeake Bay Governor's School? >> Daniel Wallace so moved. >> Is there a second? >> Second. President. >> Okay. All in favor, please signify by saying I. I. >> I. Okay. So, Dr. Wallace is our representative to the
008Chesapeake Bay Governor School and Miss Amy Richards is alternate. Next, we need uh a representative for the Novan Regional Technical Center and we also need an alternate represent Miss Mayan. I believe that you are currently the representative and Mrs. Moner, I think you are the alternate. Uh would you like to continue in that position? >> I would like to continue in that position. >> And anyone else interested in that position? Miss Moner, you interested in the alternate? >> Yes. >> And anyone else? Okay. So anyway, is there a motion for appointing our Novan Regional Technical Center representative and our alternate representative? >> And you all so moved. >> Okay. Is a second. >> Rosemary Mayan. Second. >> Thank you. All in favor signify by saying I. >> I. Okay. All oppose say no. So Miss
009Mayan is appointed as our representative for the Nomin Tech Center and also the alternate is Mrs. Rebecca M. We also need a representative and alternate for the noven alternative education program. Uh and what we have done in the past and what I think we should probably continue to do is to have the same representative for the noven alternative education program and also the same alternate as we have for the novenc regional technical center. Do I hear a motion to that effect? >> Is there a second? >> Second, Rosemary. >> Okay. Thank you. All in favor signify by saying I. >> I. >> All oppose say no. So, Miss Mayan is our representative and Miss Rebecca Mana is [clears throat] alternate. So, next we have uh our West Mullen Education Foundation representative and even though that
010foundation is not currently very active, uh we're hoping that that will change soon and we do need a representative. Currently, uh Miss Richards, I think you are the representative. Is that correct? To the West Mullen Education Foundation. That's correct. >> Okay. And is anyone else interested in that position? I think so far it's been a pretty easy position. [laughter] Okay. All in favor of electing Miss Amy Richards as a representative to the West Mullen Education Foundation. Signify by saying I. I. >> All oppose say no. >> Okay. Congratulations again, Miss Richards. >> Thank you. >> Okay. Next we have uh our agenda. We need to see if there are any suggested changes or additions to our agenda. Are there any? Okay. Our agenda is approved by unanimous consent. Miss Rice, >> did I miss something?
011>> I was just going to ask you cover that somewhere. We need that as an agenda. >> Okay. All right. We're good. >> We're good. Okay. All right. um attendance recognition. Yes, correct. >> Yes. >> So, we'd like to start with our student attendance. And I will tell you it was a close uh match again this month. At Copel Elementary School, the average daily student attendance was 92.62%. At Washington District Elementary, it was 92.83%. Montra Middle School, 91.73% and West Morland High School, 89.27%. So, by just a smidge, Washington District Elementary School wins uh the award for highest student attendance for December. >> [applause] [clears throat] >> Thank you. >> Congratulations. >> And now for our staff attendance. At Copel Elementary School, staff attendance for December was 91.47%. Washington District Elementary 90.61%. Montros Middle School
01293.23%. West Morland High School 93%. So by an even smaller margin, uh, West Morland High School wins the trophy for staff attendance for December. >> [applause] >> I don't think you all can make that any closer. [laughter] Someone tries to call a photo shoot. >> Good job. Thank you. >> Congratulations. Okay. Next, we have our character trait honores for the month of December. >> Mr. to celebrate this. >> Good evening. Hi, Angel Prince. And tonight we would like to recognize Andrew Diaz. Um Andrew was nominated by his teacher, Miss Nelson. Um she said, "Andrew reminds us that you do not have to have words to show acts of kindness during recess. He patiently waits and takes his turn on the playground equipment. When a fellow classmate dropped their lunchbox, Ander kindly handed it back to
013them. He also shares blocks with his classmates during centers. Ander's small acts of kindness are valued and appreciated in our classroom. [applause] >> [crying] >> All right. [laughter] [crying] [screaming] >> [applause] >> I'm Michelle Reass, the principal at Washington District. Our student of the month wasn't able to come tonight. Her mom had to work, but um still want to share. Yanina Herrera is our student of the month for December. She's a sweet, happy, positive, and consistently kind student who brings joy to the classroom each day. She genuinely enjoys helping others and often goes out of her way to make sure those around her feel included and supported. Gina has a natural ability to brighten people's moods and takes pride in keeping others smiling. She shows strong empathy toward her classmates, noticing when someone may need
014encouragement or help. Gina also tries also tries her best to model and teach kindness through her actions, making her a positive role model and a valued member of her classroom community. >> [applause] >> Good evening. I'm Janet Gr, the principal launch trust me. Our student of the month is Sakaya Perry. Sakaya consistently demonstrates kindness at school through her thoughtful actions and concern for others. She regularly includes classmates who might otherw otherwise feel left out. Teachers have noticed that she speaks respectfully to both adults and students, uses positive language, and shows that she is willing to stand up for others when someone is treated unfairly. She sets a strong example of empathy and compassion that positively influences the entire school community at Montra Middle School. Congratulations, >> [applause] >> 6:30 game. >> [applause] >> Good evening.
015My name is Michael Bgate, principal at Westborn High School. WH student of the month for December goes out to Michael, grade 10, nominated by Miss Patterson. Miss Patterson added today, I nominated Michael because he's deeply aware of the challenges his classmen face and constantly offered quiet, meaningful support for those who need it. Without seeking recognition, he takes the initiative to help others understand the material and feel more confident in their learning. Michael's attentive, thoughtful, and academically strong. He uses these strengths to support his peers. He's always willing to step in, explain concepts, and offer encouragement for classmates who are working hard to keep up with the class content. His kindness, awareness, and commitment to helping others makes him powerful role model and a truly deserving of this nomination. Student of the month for kindness goes
016out to Michael Minn. Way to go. [applause] Come on. [clears throat] Thank you. >> Thank you. [applause] We congratulate all of those being recognized and we appreciate the role that uh our teachers, their parents and our school administrators played in this recognition. So next we get to celebrate um West M County teachers of the year. >> Yes sir. >> Miss Rice. >> Yes. So each year um [cough] the West Morland County participates in the state teacher of the year program and and teachers can nominate their peers uh peers that they believe are outstanding role models uh for other teachers uh to be selected as teacher of the year. So we're really excited uh to be able to have all four of them present with us uh this evening. So we're going to ask Mrs. Ann
017Evans, teacher of the year for Copel Elementary School to come forward. [applause] And we have Mrs. Beth Sherm. I'm sorry, Mr. [laughter] I'm looking at her so I said it wrong. Mr. Jason Sherm, [laughter] teacher of the year for Washington District. [applause] Sorry, Mr. Sher. >> It's a team effort. >> It is a team effort. [laughter] >> That was last year. >> Mr. Bruce Paseretti for Montros Middle [applause] School and Mr. Drew Hut for West Morland High School. [applause] And I wanted to um share something about this particular group because I just think it's really interesting and exciting. All of the folks that you see standing before you have previously been selected as teacher of the year. So this is not the first time uh any of them has been recognized by their peers as
018uh one of the best. Now, they're all incredibly modest and they'll tell you, you know, they're they're just one [laughter] of many excellent teachers in the division and they are um but but they are all exceptional. And then we had the pleasure of also selecting a division teacher of the year and the division teacher of the year is Mrs. Anne Evans. [applause] >> [applause] >> So a as a result um and these are the 2027 teachers of the year which I it's not a typo on the agenda. We we select uh well ahead of the the year that they will reign and that's because the the regional teacher of the year will be sent on for regional competition and then potentially uh win the state teacher of the year. We would love to see that
019happen here in West Morland. So, uh, and with this strong lineup, we think it's very possible. So, um, we're excited. We congratulate you all. I know they all hate, uh, public attention and accolades and recognition. So, [laughter] except for Mr. fascinating, but the rest of them [laughter] would prefer not to be in the spotlight. But so we thank them for being willing to come this evening and and let us recognize them and lift them up because we're incredibly proud of everything that they do. [applause] Would any board members like to make any comments about our principles, our teachers of the year? >> Congratulations. Thank you for all >> very appreciate hard work and dedication. >> Yeah, we appreciate everything that you do because uh we know it's not always an easy job, but you make
020a tremendous impact on quite a few young people. So, thank you for everything you do. All right. Next, um we have Virginia School Principles Appreciation Week, Miss Rice. >> Yes. So, this week is uh Virginia's school principles appreciation week and we have a proclamation uh from the governor. I'd like to ask I can read it, but I'd like to ask if any board members would like to u read it. >> I can do it. >> Okay. of Virginia School Principles Appreciation Week, whereas school principles work cooperatively to direct, develop, and inspire all members of the school staff and student body and to communicate effectively with parents and engage them in the learning process. And I'll just summarize these because it's rather lengthy. They serve as educational leaders. They manage policies. They ensure an effective and
021safe learning environment. They are in instructional leaders. They equip their teachers. They motivate the students. They entrust they're entrusted with the opportunity and responsibility of guiding our students. Um they work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and the community. And this week gives us an opportunity to recognize them. And therefore, now I'm reading. Therefore, I Glenn Young do hereby recognize January 12th through 16th, 2026 as Virginia School Principles Appreciation Week in our Commonwealth of Virginia. And I call this observance to the attention of all of our citizens. Glenn Ynan. >> Thank you. So we would like all of our principles to please come forward. The board members [clears throat] do have certificates to present to you. And of course we want a photo op. [laughter] [applause] >> Okay. Board members, would you like to get in the
022picture with our principles? [clears throat] >> Go on down, Mr. [laughter] >> Why shouldn't you come down, too? >> Okay. [clears throat] >> That's Angel. Okay. One, two, three. >> One, two, three. One more. [laughter] I may be just a little biased, but I do think we have the best principles of anyone in the state. So, we're really fortunate to have the quality of leadership that we have here in West Morland County. >> Well, I think I guess it was back at our December meeting that you uh reported some results >> that are very reflective of all their contributions. >> Yes. So, so we very much appreciate you. >> Miss Rice, do we have any written public comments that were submitted prior to our meeting? >> No, sir. >> Okay. Thank you. Do we have
023anyone present that would like to make any public comments? Okay. I do not see anyone. So, our public comment period is now closed. Next, we have our consent agenda for personal appointments and resignations. You have copies of board minutes from the October 8th special joint meeting with the board of supervisors, the November 17 school board meeting and the December 15 school board meeting. You also have copies of the school division bills and food service bills. Is there a motion to approve our consent agenda? >> So moved. Rosemary Mayan. >> Thank you. Is there a second? >> Daniel second. >> Miss Mayan, how do you vote? I >> Mrs. Richards. >> Hi, >> Mrs. Bonner. >> Hi, >> Dr. Wallace. Hi, >> and the chair of votes. I And the consent agenda is approved. Next, Miss
024Rice. Donations and school gifts. >> Yes, sir. For uh the past month, we were fortunate once again uh to benefit from the generosity of individuals and organizations who donated to the schools at Copel Elementary School. Uh they received a donation from Ebenezer United Methodist Church, a monetary donation for hallway de decoration reward, and that was a $20 monetary donation. At Washington District Elementary, Jessica Suard gave a food donation for Backpack Buddies valued at $300. Alicia Wilson gave mittens, hats, and gloves valued at $100. Carly Beal gave eight boxes of crayons for the class valued at $20. Christy Ramirez gave four winter coats valued at $80. And Commonwealth Irrigation and Landscaping donated four large boulders which are spirit rocks and those are valued at $6,000. >> Wow. >> At Montros Middle School, Mrs. Wilkins gave a
025donation of items for a staff breakfast and that was valued at $180. And at West Morland High School, Michael Swan made a monetary donation to the wrestling team of $50. New Horizons made a monetary donation for the Eagle Invitational of $70. Welsh Funeral Home made a monetary donation for the Eagle Invitational of $100. Brooks Masonry LLC made a monetary donation to the boys basketball team of $250. And SK Car Wash Incorporated also made a monetary donation to the basketball team of $250. And then the high school staff members gave gift baskets to support the local community. And those baskets were valued at $456.90. Very precise. >> Okay. Seems like every month we continue to have a substantial number of gifts and donations. In accordance with our policy, KH, is there a motion to approve the
026donations and gifts as presented by Miss Rice? Amy Rich. >> Is there a second? >> Second, Rebecca Miner. >> Okay. All in favor, please signify by saying I. I. >> Those opposed say no. >> Okay. So, the donations are gratefully accepted. So, thank you, Miss Rice. >> Thank you. >> Okay. One of the other things that we do um do in our first meeting is to approve our and sign our VSB code of conduct for school board members. And this year we also need to approve and sign the VSB code of conduct for our school board clerk. And I have verified that uh our clerk and also our deputy clerk are very familiar with their code of conduct. So uh so anyway uh what I would like to do there are some similarities and every
027year uh we the school board members in particular uh have reviewed this and read it. So what I'd like to do is go down to the very last bullet and number 12 that says I will always remember that the foremost concern of the board is to improve and enhance the teaching and learning experience for all students in the public schools of Virginia. And if you could switch now to the uh code of conduct for the board clerk and also go down to the very last number there. And if you look at it uh I think it says the same thing. [laughter] So we we both uh we all have a commitment uh to our students. That's why we do what we do. So I would like to uh ask if there is a motion to
028approve these two codes of conduct. >> Daniel Wallace. So moved. >> Is there a second? >> Where's Mary Mayan? Second. >> Okay. Is there any discussion? >> Dr. Wallace, how do you vote? >> I. >> Mrs. Miner. >> I. >> Mrs. Richards. >> I. >> Miss Mayan. >> I. >> The chair votes I. And the codes of conduct are approved. >> Next. uh approval of a memoranduming of understanding between West Mullen County Public Schools and West Mullen County. Miss Rice, thank you. Um, as schoolboard members are all very well aware, we've been working on uh developing a memorandum of understanding between the county and the school division uh related to financing of capital projects and also uh related to the handling of our endofear fund balance. Uh so you all received this document in advance
029for review. Um the only thing that changed between uh the last time you reviewed it and this month when you reviewed it was section seven and that was the section uh dealing with the handling of the end ofear fund balance. So essentially uh what you have we did get some input from our auditor um defining what the fund balance actually is that it's it's not all one pot of funds but is it is instead broken out into five categories and specifically uh the memorandum speaks to how will the unassigned fund balance uh be handled at the end of each fiscal year. So the way we have it written is that the schools would develop a plan for the end ofear fund balance and potential uses could include maintaining reserve to support cash flow which is
030essential uh for the school division supporting our operating needs andor contributing funds toward the next phase of capital improvement financing. So, you're already aware thisou indicates we'll give 1.7 million of our existing end-of-ear fund balance to fund the first phase of capital improvement uh projects, but we know at the end of this capital improvement plan, there will be a next capital improvement plan. So, funds could go toward that. We've made it clear in theouou that prior to the school board expending or contracting to expend any portion of the unassigned fund balance, the school board would first approve a budget resolution. The budget resolution would specify what we want to spend fund balance dollars on and how much we want to spend. That resolution, if approved, would go to the board of supervisors for their consideration
031and approval. and the school division would not um spend or contract to spend any fund balance dollars, unassigned fund balance dollars without the prior approval of the board of supervisors. So, it does specify that we would retain the unassigned fund balance in our account and approval from the board of supervisors would be required before the funds are appropriated or expended. So, we're we're just capturing in writing uh a process that is not an atypical process um but one that uh puts it down in writing so that we're all on the same page and have the same understanding going forward. The rest of this um has not changed. The other sections of theou have not changed since you last reviewed it. So um as you all are aware the board of supervisors are meeting tonight as
032we're meeting uh they are currently meeting as we are currently meeting and they have this same item on their agenda uh for consideration and action this evening. So I present it to you all for a motion. >> Okay. I would like to ask if there any questions for Miss Rice. Okay. when we uh when we do the motion uh we need to make this motion contingent upon approval by the board of supervisors because if they don't approve it then there will have to be more discussion. So uh I will at this time ask for a motion. >> Uh Daniel Wallace I move that we approve this um draft contingent upon approval by the board of supervisors. >> Okay. Is there a second? Rose Mary Mayan second. >> Okay. Is there any discussion? >> Dr. Wallace,
033how do you vote? >> I. >> Mrs. Miner, >> I. >> Mrs. Richards, >> I. >> Mrs. Mayan, >> I. >> And the chair votes I. And theou is approved as presented contingent upon approval by the board of supervisors. >> Thank you. Okay. Next, Miss Rice. um West Mullen County Hall of Fame nomination packets and a little bit about when they are due. >> Yes, sir. Um this is just a reminder to the public uh both the public sitting in the room and the public who might be uh watching online. Uh we do have a new newly established West Morland Educators Hall of Fame and the board is looking forward to inducting the first uh inductees into uh the Hall of Fame. So to be eligible to be nominated, an educator needs to have uh
034made exemplary impacts on students and the broader educational landscape while working 20 years or more in West Morland County Public Schools and retiring from West Morland County Public Schools. We do want to make sure the public is aware that the application uh guidelines and the application packet itself, the nomination packet are available on the school division website and packets nomination packets are due on February 1st by 400 pm. So, uh, if you know of an outstanding educator who worked for 20 years at least in West Morland County and retired from West Morland County and who was exemplary in their role, uh, please consider nominating that individual for the West Morland Educator Hall of Fame. Plan is to induct uh more than one in the first year. So, >> but we need uh >> but we
035need applications. >> Yes, we need applicants. That's right. Correct. [snorts] Okay. >> I did get a call asking information regarding it. So, >> good. Okay. >> I am expecting at least one. >> Yes. >> Okay. Very good. Are there any uh questions or comments for Miss Rice? >> We spent quite a bit of time on that. So, um know every board member is familiar you. Thank you, Miss Rice. >> Do we um do we have a report from the Novan Tech Center? Miss Mayan? >> Uh no, there's nothing new for this this time. >> Okay. Thank you. Uh Dr. Wallace, do you have a report for Chesapeake Bay's Governor School? >> Uh yes. Uh just a couple things. Um first item is um we are having our you know first meeting of the new year
036um coming up on Thursday. But there's a couple other things that are happening that day. Um Thursday is also the open house at the Warsaw campus. And so, um, our middle school and high school principles, just a reminder that, yeah, make sure that our, um, our students who might be interested in, um, Ches Bay Governor School can can get out there. Again, that's Thursday starting at 6:00 at um, RCC in Warsaw. Uh, goes from 6:00 to 7:30. So, it's a good opportunity for um, parents and students to to check it out. Um it's also our um like I said it's our first meeting of the of the board there and um um we're also meeting at that location. So we're going to have two things going on at the same time. Um let's see other
037things is um our juniors are starting their um their senior projects. Uh they start you know getting the proposals in their junior year. They start writing a mean they write a full perspectus. They have um advisors. They start collecting data um in the spring and over the summer and we'll write that up and have nice research papers um in time for the Junior Academy of Sciences and um there's another science symposium that they do down at U VCU every year. So that's pretty exciting. It's it's a great program. I can't say enough good stuff about it. So, please encourage your students to um to get involved in in that. And um I also just say to our superintendent, please continue to support and encourage that. And also um you know, if we can afford additional
038slots, if we've got you know, students who are qualified, by all means, let's see if we can um can get them there. It's u it's really, I think, great investment. >> Okay. Any questions for Dr. Wallace? Okay. Thanks, Miss. Rice. Upcoming events. >> We have a long list of upcoming events uh that are geared to the board. January 26 and 27. Uh we have the VSBA capital conference in Richmond or virtual. And I know uh those who are able to attend who have already registered with Miss Sumpter. She's already made hotel reservations. Um I believe during board comments you're going to discuss travel. >> Yes. Um January 27th as part of that capital conference there is a VSBA orientation for new schoolboard chairs and vice chairs. Uh we have on February 19th VSBA Title 9
039best practices and that's being held in person at the VSBA office or virtual. February 25th, we have our third and final meeting of the communication forum here in this room at 2 o'clock. March 3rd, we have the VSBA regional spring network forum and that's in King William this year. March 19th is the VSBA Hot Topic Conference in Charlottesville. June 5th, the VSBA school law conference in Short Pump. and July 16th, the VSBA conference on education in Virginia Beach. And I've also listed there, just for reference, the dates for the VSBA fiscal governance cohort in Charlottesville because I know that's a topic you all are going to discuss this evening as well. >> Okay. Thank you, Miss Rice. So, the first uh thing there is the VSBA capital conference and who is currently uh plan on
040going to that? Okay. One, two, and I'm going. Okay. So, there four of us. >> So, um we need travel arrangements. Is does everyone plan on riding together or is anyone going separately? >> Okay. It's nice to be able to go together if we can. So, I guess you can figure some travel arrangements for us. >> Yes. >> Okay. And um that starts I think it's at 1 on Monday at 1. So uh we need to leave in time to get there and park and settle. So what time would you like to leave? >> I'd say probably no later than certainly no later than 11. >> You want to do 10:30 to >> I would say so. So that way >> is that at short pump or in downtown >> that's at Mary downtown >>
041I would say definitely want to get there maybe 1030 so that we can park is going to have to park in >> in the in the >> you know parking garage. >> Yeah. Right. Yeah. Well I prefer not to be rushed up. >> So yeah 10:30 so >> 10:30 works for everybody then. So we'll meet here at the school board office. And then one other thing I want to uh ask um it's nice to have some appointments with legislators and I don't know Miss Mayan, you know a lot of legislators. >> Oh, I do. I [laughter] do. >> Yep. And they know you. Would you be interested in scheduling some appointments for us with those that you know? >> All right. You can do that. I think you know all of them, but uh we
042probably change a lot over the years. >> Yeah. Well, we Yeah, they do. And I know there's some new ones and and of course we can't meet all of them, but uh I appreciate you being willing to do that. >> Okay. And then uh the VSBA fiscal governance cohort. We need uh first of all to know who is going to be able to attend that because Miss Rice needs to uh confirm and the sooner we do that the better I believe. >> Which one is this? The fiscal government. >> Uhhuh. Uhhuh. Right. Yeah. >> And the is the expectation that you go to all four. You have to Yeah. Right. You Yeah. You have to push. >> I've got conflicts. >> Yeah. And we know that might be We know that might be, >> you
043know, tough for everyone to go. Uh but I think Miss Rice, I think you plan on going. >> Yes. >> And I plan on going. Miss Mayan, I think you plan on going. >> Yes. >> And also, Miss Richard's correct. >> And I Miss Mon, I think it may I think you had indicated it might not work out for you. So, we have two board members and and we understand that this is a big commitment. So, uh and I guess that's really all we need to know for that at this time. >> And then we have some central office uh folks who are hiding in the back who will also be attending. >> Yeah. >> Dr. Temple, Miss Steel, Mr. McConville, and Miss Chadam. >> Okay. So, we'll have a we'll have a pretty good
044representation. So, okay. Thank you. >> All right. >> Do we know what time those start? >> We we I haven't seen a start time. Have you, Miss Rice? >> I have not. I have been told uh it's about a half a day of commitment, not a full day. Okay. On each of the four sessions. >> I'm just wondering if they started at what >> 8:00 in the morning. Talking about 5:00 in the morning leaving here. >> Yeah. I hope not because I agree 10 I mean for us probably 10 has worked out pretty well >> to leave I mean to be there too. >> Yeah that would be nice. >> All right. >> I don't know if we wanted if we knew. >> Yeah. But uh as soon as Well, when you do the confirmation
045uh you can find that out and let all of us know. >> Okay. Thank you. Miss Moner, do you have any additional comments? >> I don't think so. >> Okay. Miss Mayham? >> No. >> Okay. Mrs. Richards. >> Um, no, just for Sydney, um, if you would like to invite students to come to the school board or if you have any concerns from the students, please let us know here. >> Yeah, it would be and thank you for it would be awesome. >> Yes. >> To have some students come uh and see what we do. So, okay. So, anyway, uh, do you have anything to add, Miss Rice? I do. Um Dr. Wallace asked me to mention uh where we are with our electric buses. So I just want to mention um you all know
046the electric buses have all been uh delivered um some time ago and the charging stations uh are about to be uh certified for use. Both the Washington District charging stations are fully operational and we're almost fully operational here at the bus shop. So last week we did have initial training for the mechanics and the bus drivers who will have an electric bus and so we're we're almost to the point where we're ready to put them in the fleet. We're very very close. So we wanted to make you aware. Um some additional training will be taking place for um others in the community uh who would need to know about our electric buses such as EMS and um other first responders. um those who might work in the local garages and might need to tow an
047electric bus at some point. Hate to even bring that up since they're brand new, but you know, at some point we may need them. So, just wanted you to know we're very very close to putting the buses in the fleet. >> Okay. >> Anything from anyone else? Okay. Our next uh board meeting, we have a budget work session uh at uh 5:00 pm on February the 10th and >> is that correct? Hope >> I had four at 4. >> Okay. >> Uh let me verify. >> Work session is five. The the Tuesday work session is five and the Monday work session is four. >> Yes. So you're both correct, right? >> I'm looking at work bud. Okay. Yes, I got it. >> Okay. All righty. So anyway, on the February the 10th when we have
048our budget work session at 5. After that, we will have a close session for the board to discuss superintendent midyear performance review. and Miss Rice will be providing us with some inputs uh prior to that session. And then on Monday, February the 23rd, we have the budget work session at 400 p.m. We have a close session at 5:00 p.m. And during that close session, the board will discuss the midyear performance review with Miss Rice. And then we have our open session at 6 pm. Do I hear a motion to adjourn? >> Okay. Is [laughter] there a second? >> All in favor signify by saying I. I. >> I. Okay. We are journ. Thank you.
