[Music] basically it's a really great opportunity for our students in this District to pursue an education in teaching they can earn a certificate and get some training and a realtime experience and it particularly targets students in more marginalized communities and encourages them to participate and get involved in the field of teaching our superintendent really is the leading Drive um force in creating these Partnerships I feel like that's a key part in what makes this District special is reaching out and partnering with different organizations stakeholders parents community members and one of the examples of that is our partnership with Center for strong families they've been an incredible support and resource to make sure that students have what they need to be successful in their educational Journey we've formed a equity task force that's made up of
teachers administrators community members some Schoolboard members and they have really done an incredible job around digging into some of the issues in our district and in our community and I think the thing that makes suer Bon Lake School District so special is that we do a really good job of celebrating the positives but we also do the nitty-gritty work where we look at data that maybe isn't such a feel-good experience I joined the school board because I used to see the failures of the educational system in the work I did I worked for the Department of Corrections for a long period of time and I thought well maybe I could have an impact as a school board director I think we've always had a lot of good Partnerships we have the big partnership with you
know kids that can take classes here and go strictly right to Boeing out in Frederickson and when they're done there a lot of them get you know they do get jobs there but in the community here the city and the district do a lot of good things together when I was taking a look at the policies that we have we have anti-bullying policies we have anti sexual harassment policies but we didn't have an anti-racism policy and as I sat down at the kitchen tables of families of color and heard their stories about what their students are going through this was a missing piece that I found in the district and so we are working through that process of putting that anti-racism policy in place but I know that that's not going to be the end
of it it does need to then turn into procedures and turn into a trickle down to the building level so that our staff understands and has the training so that they can actually implement it at the building level you know and when it comes to Dei work I mean we are a rural community we have more influx of people moving into the area and that means that we need to be paying attention to different cultures ethnicities learning styles all of those things we need to be focused on my daughter uh attends the local high school and it's so exciting to to see her come home and talk about you know the opportunity she has to attend meetings of these cultural clubs and learn more about them or the Multicultural ass assemblies that our high schools
are putting on that showcase these wonderful parts of our community to the entire student body so people can see what they have in their Community who their fellow humans are and just get a sense of all the different people that make up this great [Music] District
