We're good. >> Okay, we're going to Good morning. We'd like to call this meeting to order. Um, if you please rise for the flag salute. Those of you in the district office can use that flag. And I have this for our virtual members. [clears throat] I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, liberty and justice for all. >> Thank you. I would consider any additions or changes to the agenda. Hearing none, um it's my understanding there are no comments um from individuals or groups today. So, we're going to move right on to our new business. Consider the approval of replacement playground equipment and purchase for uh Warehouser Elementary through interlocal agreement with Sourcewell. So, I'll turn some time over

to Brandon and then also if uh Lynn would like to share anything with us, that would be great. Brandon, >> and good morning. I'm going to go ahead and give it an a high overview and then Brandon's going to follow up with some specifics. We're gr very grateful for uh that we've received a $50,000 aortionment from the Pierce County Council in order to provide playground equipment at Warehouser. We have already had money set aside from our capital projects levy in order to do some replacement uh for warehouser as well as our other elementary schools. And so the thanks to the generous uh portionment from Pierce County Council that will get us down the road and get us uh going. The equipment amount for this project would be $57,9164. The installation would be $43,462.92. And then

the wood fiber um surfacing would be $24,9.15 for a gram total after tax of134,6538 and Brandon is here to discuss the particulars. >> Yeah. So um as Jay was saying the um the play structure is for a age group of 5 to 12 and and with the uh source well contract comes out to 57091. Um the installation um I spoke with Cameron um he was going to send me the uh plans. Um, I have not received those yet, but I'm pretty confident that uh I think we can do the installation inhouse. Um, the warranty and everything is still covered. Um, just long as you build it per plan and uh and then I know another option is uh with the uh the wood fiber that is just the fiber and then freight. Um, so the

other thing that we have to do would be to get rid of the pearavevel. Um, we're going to try and do a lot of that ourselves inhouse along with uh it sounds like there are some possible uh community members that would be willing to uh help out with the trucking and and getting it out of the playground. But and that would be huge. That that would be a lot of help. >> Yeah. Can I ask a question, Brandon? Just clarification. Um, [clears throat] regardless of whether they install it or you install it, Elani um comes out and does an inspection and approves it before any children can participate and play on it. Correct. >> Absolutely. The health department comes out and inspects the the toy once it's installed. And then my second wondering, and you

probably already thought about this, is there a reason that we don't just put the wood fiber on top of the pearl just to save us time or maybe >> it just with the elevation, the border and elevation? >> It it the uh it it what we'll have to do is we'll have to put about 12 in of uh fiber. We'll have to put filter fabric down so you it doesn't migrate through. And then um and then the filter fabric or the uh engineered wood chips and that's about 12 in deep. >> So it's more cost effective then to haul it out, take it out rather than get a bigger border or you're saying maybe the border would be too big because it would be whatever the existing pearl is plus an additional 12 in. >>

Yes, it would. Yeah. So, it would be that much taller. >> Just that consideration for maybe looking at a cost analysis on that. But thank you for this good work. I know we've been waiting a long time um for these play structures and it was part of our levy. And I'm super grateful to council member Amy Amy Krueger for um giving us this opportunity to have the additional $50,000 grant. That's really big. Um Amy uh Lynn, did you want to add anything? uh just that the equipment that it's replacing um has been um oh I don't want to say condemned. We've got caution tape around it right now because it has been deemed unsafe for student use. Um I think it was Christa and Brandon and somebody from the health department came out and they

said that no we this can't be used any longer. It's just there's gaps in it that are unsafe and and uh bolts that are coming loose. So, this new play structure will replace that and um be a a very positive addition to our our playground and something that our youngest learners can use. Right now, we've just got just a very small area that's not very engaging uh for them and so that is uh a much needed piece of equipment. >> Any idea how long this play structure has been there? um our my secretary uh Jen Kerry was a recess parah educator at one point and it it's been there since before she was and I think she's been in the district for about 20 years. So I believe it's been at least that long. >>

Yeah. I'll bet you that play structure was put up when the school was built. >> That's kind of the play structure that was for that time era. >> Exactly. Honestly, I was one of the first students. I I went to warehouser when it was brand new and I in my head I'm like, I remember that play system, but I thought maybe I'm wrong because I'm pretty old. But I wouldn't be surprised. I do believe that that's true. I think it's been >> and I think that was 79, right? >> Yes, it was 79. >> Yeah, exactly. >> Wow. All right. Well, um, thank you all for the hard work. Brandon, you have put in untold hours on this. I know. Appreciate your efforts and Jay, you too. So, with that, I would like to move

forward with a vote from the board. Um, I would consider a motion for approval of this purchase. >> A motion. [clears throat] >> Thank you. And a second. >> A second. >> So, I heard Karen on the motion and the second. >> Plet on the motion. >> Got it. Okay. Thank you so much. It's been moved and seconded. Is there any additional um discussion? Uh the only thing I would say is I'm very grateful to our voters who recognize the need for for engaging in safe place structures and we're very grateful uh that they voted uh with capital projects levied to allow for these this beginning uh as well as Eville Elementary School. We've done some work there and that'll continue with Columbia Crest so that we can make sure that we have great places

for our students to to to play and and engage. >> Great. Thank you. All right. Um, all in favor? >> I Any opposed? All right. Motion carries and we look forward to seeing a new play structure. When do you when do we anticipate seeing that uh going up at Warehouser? So, um, speaking with, um, Cameron, uh, if we ordered it right away, it would be pretty difficult to have it here, uh, in December. It would probably be more like a January delivery. >> But that gives us time to to, I think, work on the Yeah. Yeah. >> And uh we've removed some of the old uh like up at Columbia Crest, there are some old uh toys that we removed in Edenville L. And uh so we'll we'll handle the demolition of the old one,

too. So, we'll be out there. We should be out there not too far away. Mrs. Ames >> gives you something to do during Christmas break, I would imagine. So, need it. >> Something else. [laughter] Yeah. >> All right. Well, thank you very much. We're going to adjourn this meeting at 8:45. >> Thank you.
