To the United States of America and to the people stand for all >> thank you for all being here tonight. It's a pleasant evening to drive in for a change. That [laughter] makes it kind of nice. Um so now we're going to have our student board reps comments. So, um, >> um, I do not have a long running. Starfleet just finished midterm, so nothing really to report there. Just everyone's working hard um, preparing for finals in the next couple weeks. Um, some school highlights. The kindness gang, which is um, a group centered at Middle School focusing on kindness, inclusion, and diversity. The kindness gang at Middle School is now at 33 members with a combination of all grades. So, that's very exciting. Uh meetings are on Thursdays at lunchtime and the kindness gang held a
spirit week with highlights of a pink shirt day which celebrated kindness across the school as well as a positive sidewalk chalk Wednesdays where they wrote kind messages across the sidewalks and while kids were walking in between classes they were able to read them and hopefully uplift their day. Um, some student council and leadership updates. The Eatenville Middle School mentor program headed by General Mery with Heatonville Elementary students interviews were held on November 3rd with Heatville Middle School students and I heard that they went very well. Um, kindness gang spirit week was held on October 28th, which was a big success. And then intro to leadership classes are now open to 7th grade at Evil Middle School, which is very exciting. Um, and then mentors at Evil Middle School and Evil Elementary School just started today.
and then some celebrations and recognitions. Uh I just want to recognize the students at Eatville Middle School for their hard work and dedication to promote and celebrate kindness across the school. And then Mrs. Minus for her hard work and love towards the anti-bullying and civility committee. >> Thank you. >> I should ask more when I reach out email. >> Um I don't have much. Uh warehouser just started an EFA food drive which will be going to uh from now to November 22nd. And then they also use funding from the Joe Hared. Okay. Joe Harnid uh student support drug trust fund uh for after school tutoring which started on October 19th or October 9th sorry. Uh and then bucket drum will continue on through volunteer time that was well volunteered. Uh and then they're going to
be performing with their choir on December 11th. And then I didn't hear back from Chris. Um I do have quite a lot especially for the high school. Um that whole form was filled out. Um so some of our recent accomplishments at the high school. So the girls cross country won 12th in state. Um girls swim also went to state and our dance team just went to the recent Huskys game and got to perform for the Huskys. And then honor society just last week inducted 40 new students. Um some events and activities recent upcoming um an upcoming one is winter wishes week in the assembly which is on December 15th starts December 15th um there's the spirit week to get everyone ready for holidays and stuff and then they do like gifts and stuff for people
that like wish for a gift and write it on a note and they also we also have pep assembly and then we just recently had our Veterans Day assembly on November 7th where guest speakers came and spoke to the students. Um, tomorrow there's a sportsmanship conference for ASB and leadership to go to. Um, and it's just it's how sportsmanship will be integrated into our leadership. And then knowledgeable club starts or started on November 10th. Um, I did get some concerns and feedback from some of the students. Um, there were a few concerns. One of the concerns was the teachers use of AI for assignments because like a lot of the teachers use AI to make the prompts or literally like make the entire assignment. Um there were concerns about there being more online assignments versus
paper cuz I mean everyone's just has a screen in their face all day now. And then another concern was that there hasn't there recently has been a lot of counselor involvement but previously there hasn't been as much. and students were wondering why just now there's counselor involvement and there hasn't been you know throughout every year every school year at all times. And then um some of them had ideas and feedback about like making an anonymous like chat room or a Google form for students to talk to counselors anonymously. So that because sometimes counselors reach out to parents even when they shouldn't or like students information gets spread and their name gets spread and stuff and a lot of students had concerns with that. Um there the student council and leadership they're talking about integrating friendship
of kindness week which is just teaching others about friendship and kindness. It's just a positive week and how they can integrate like a mental health awareness week in with with all that. Um there's a lot more kindness projects going up around the school. Leadership is attending more conferences and we're also talking about having a cultural assembly or a cultural week at the high school. And then some of the upcoming school events, winter wishes, um there's a dance team competition, the first ever one at Tom Water on November 15th. The winter sports that they had their first meeting today for wrestling and basketball. They start on November 17th. And then there's a band concert on November 24th. And then some of the recognitions that I'd like to announce are the counselor's involvement over the past two
weeks or so. Um the band during all the football games and recent assemblies, they've been doing really well. Um the cheerleaders have one of the biggest teams that we've had in a really long time. And then the leadership in ASB getting more involved. And then also um there was some additional notes and feedback for you guys that I was talking with some people about um talking about like all the board members maybe attending some of like the assemblies or something or attending some of the events so that like students can really talk to you guys and really get to know you guys. So yeah, that's where I go to high school um for Columbia Crest. Um they are currently supporting the Evil Family Agency by collecting boxes of brownie mix. In just 5 days, they
collected 60 boxes. And then for activities, events, and events, they have a holiday concert on December 7th coming up. And it's for the choir and the band to perform break. Um they have a Taproots anti-bullying assembly play on November 21st. And it's an engaging and interactive performance that helps students learn about kindness and empathy and how to stand up for other people. And they also have a bucket filling like kind of another kindness push towards their students to encourage students to like fill each other's buckets up through like positive words and actions and being kind to others. And then the MER program which was also mentioned by Eli where the middle school students or not by Eli >> by Ruby um where the middle school students are attending recess with the kindergarteners and second graders
and providing support and other forms of kindness. And then I didn't hear anything from Evil Elementary, but we're looking forward to hearing them soon. Can I just like I am extremely impressed and this is why we need you guys on the board. Like this is you guys are such an asset and just I got goosebumps with the um just talking about uh some of the suggestions and the concerns that the students have. Those are things that we don't know without your voice. So that's that's huge to bring that, you know, up to us. And um yeah, and and I for one would love if I don't know I I know through newsletters sometimes stuff is mentioned, but if I got an invite to an assembly or anything that was going on at school, I will
do everything I can to be there. >> Okay. So yeah, thank you. >> Thank you. >> All right. Well, thank you very very much. And as a reminder to you, the reason we have student reports is if you have to leave for any reason at all, you're more than welcome to do that. Otherwise, you're more than welcome to stay. Thank you. At this time, we'll consider any changes to the agenda. Hearing none, um entertain a motion to accept the consent agenda as presented. >> A motion. >> Moved and seconded. All in favor signify by saying I. >> I opposed. The motion carried. Any hearing bills and groups? We have none. >> Okay. Thank you. Reports and presentations. Um, choice transfer data. So, this was I sent to the board on Friday because Carrie couldn't be
here. silver report is in there on all the different transfer students to different buildings or districts. >> Oh, I saw that. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Doesn't need a motion or anything. It was justformational. >> Okay. So, it's justformational. So if you want to uh go through it, if you have any questions, then we should contact >> you can send your questions to me and I'll get on the >> car. All right, sounds good. Um on to high cap plan update. [laughter] >> Getting the slideshow ready. You got it. Good job. >> Going to give you a high program update. Currently the number of students in the program. The elementary districtwide we have 44 students, the middle school 26, the high school 28 for a total of 98 students. Uh which is an increase of 14
students from last year. So when we did our um our high cap screenings, we qualified 14 new students. Our current programming model uh K through three, we do weekly pull out enrichment at each home school now. So we're not busing students to Eatenville Elementary. Um our high teacher, Mr. Kelson, is actually going to each school now and dividing his day up. It saves in travel and it's also saving in that cost of of traveling in a bus back and forth. Uh they are working on [clears throat] discovery, creativity, exploration, and peer collaboration. And he's just doing a lot of advanced thinking and problem solving skills are the focus of that group. Our four through five group, they're doing project- based learning with creative expression, depth of understanding, and independent learning. and some differentiation there between
those groups that he's working with. At the middle school, um we have again cluster placement. Students can takea humanities, foreign languages. I think they have I can't remember how many foreign language options right now. >> I think it's three total. Um yeah, daily. Yeah. >> Yes. And accelerated math. Um, and they also are now having a first period enrichment class that's project-based learning using Pedell Works. And that's not just a student with a class with highcap students. There are other students that are not needing intervention that are also in that class as well. So, it's a good mixture of students. We didn't create just a highcap class for those middle school students. Right now, they're doing like a shark tank. Um, they're all designing their own project. We've like we have a group of students
who are trying to design a football cleat that your ankles would never roll. They're designing and building it and then they're going to take a field trip to the mall to do their cost analysis because some of them have a pretty high expectation of how much these items cost. So, um that is their current project that they're working on. Uh at the high school level, uh same as always. We have a little bit change of classes, but college and the high school. Um you're not seeing that AP piece on here like we have in the past. We've moved more to that college and the high school dual enrollment. Um you know, that early entrance to classes. If we have a freshman who needs to be pushed a little bit, we might move them to sophomore
English or college and the high school English. We've done that with a couple of students. Um and then of course running start and Spokane virtual classes are also available. And some changes that we did this this last year from our parent and teacher surveys. Uh we found that um we're giving these KOAT tests which qualify students for HCAP and they really look at verbal reasoning, quantitive reasoning, non-verbal reasoning. But a lot of people are like, "What does that really mean?" So, um, if you want to click on the first link for me, >> no, I don't have to access. >> No, [laughter] of course. >> This is not good. Okay. >> Let's try again. >> Sorry. See if we can get that to work. Hey, did that work? >> Thank you. >> Okay, so this
is the Kogat screener and it gives us data on where a student's strengths are and where we could accelerate their learning and then also areas if you slide down areas of improvement. So when teachers see the ability profile score, which is an HCQ plus N minus, they're like, what does that even mean? So we took this information um and now we've implemented it into we could look at the highcap plan now >> gosh sorry [laughter] >> okay access to that >> access denied Here [laughter] we go. >> Okay. >> There we go. So this is a s we redid the highcap plans over the summer and what we did was we added some pieces of here are the students Kobach qualifying areas and then what does that mean? What are their strengths going to lie
in? And then what are some concerns that might potentially come out of of this area of qualification. We also added um if you scroll down some other pieces that are really quick for teachers to see and utilize and hopefully for parents to understand. Um making it a little bit easier. So designing two goals and how that's going to be supported and how that instruction can take place for students in the gened classroom. So, we've changed um what our plans look like. And it's been a lot easier for our teachers to accommodate students and meet their needs when they have that little bit more of explanation that goes with them. Any questions about that? [clears throat] >> All right. So, like I said earlier, we are going to each school now instead of busing students to
EES. So, our weekly program schedule is there for Columbia Crest, Swarehouser, and Eatenville. And then again, our middle school students, um, they get, uh, a daily, uh, high cap class now with that PBL works. And then our Columbia Crest Academy students, we really, since we're actually going to campus now, um, we're really trying to do enrichment activities that have to do with STEM learning and outdoor school. So, that is a focus at Columbia. All right. And then going off our survey from teachers, we just they just really wanted more resources and supports. So you can click on that one. >> Yeah. >> So I made a Padlet for our teachers to go through and like what does a KOAT score mean? How do I mean? How do I understand it? What do these qualifying areas
mean? Um, if you scroll down, just some enrichment activities that you can provide to students and based off of their scores, what are more enrichment activities uh that could be done. And then we really dig into if they had a very high nonverbal score on the Kogat, these are um ideas and things that will support students learning. and we just kept going with the whole your way tag tools. So there's resources in there that you can use that have just great projectbased already uh learning for students. Um some classroom strategies you can do like fostering a growth mindset um giving that positive feedback and then just a whole bunch of strategies that our teachers can try and use. So we put that out at the beginning of the school year. Now we had a parent
night. Gosh, I don't even know how long ago. A month and a half maybe ago. >> And the feedback from that was could we have a tool to use with our students that supports uh their learning and how we could best support them. So, we're working on that right now. I'm probably about halfway through with that tool for our parents to use and we'll get that out to our parents when it's done. But, it'll be similar with how to support your student. Um, and then some other changes. We've really tried uh to up our parent communication. if you want to click on that link. Oh goodness, [laughter] this is not good. Sorry you guys. Um >> no. >> okay. So, um we do Mr. Kelson does a monthly newsletter now which has I'm gonna show
it to you. I can get in still going through. >> Um, and then we also put that newsletter in the district newsletter, but it just gives an update of what um, our students are working in in their highcap classes. And then we're going to do quarterly parent meetings. We just had one a few weeks ago. And then we're starting a parent advisory committee um that will work um on any maybe ideas or or ways to improve the program but also work on our update of our highcap plan which is due in April. >> I don't think that's going to go through. >> I don't think so either. >> Okay. [laughter] >> It will. Yeah. 30 minutes. Uh next next step the state is really um wanting districts to focus on um self-contained grade bands. So
taking all of your fourth graders that are high cap and putting them in one classroom. Uh which is totally opposite of what they used to want us to do. Uh take all your third graders that are high cap and put them in a classroom. Uh that is just the way they're really leaning now towards uh high cap. A lot of that is because um their their leading reason for this is because there's a number of grievances in school districts from teachers who are saying we can't possibly support high cap students with all the other we can't enrich. That's not something we can do. So now the state has really moved to the model of have clustered classrooms and I think in some of our buildings we we can look at doing that. It'll be a
little bit difficult at CCA to do cluster classrooms since there are one grade level um in a lot of areas. So, it's something that we're looking at doing. Um, also the state is wanting us to really design our own norming levels and not use theirs. So, what is highcap look like in Eatenville school district? It could look different than what um Olympia says their high cap looks looks like. So, lots of big conversations to have. Um, still continuing to train our teachers. Um there's still conversation about the Cambridge curriculum and then we've already done that reviewed our parent survey from the fall meeting and already making some changes such as making that parent. That is all I have any questions? I think it's interesting that the state's encouraging us to do something >> that they
said no to for a very long time. [laughter] phone. >> Yeah, they really kind of just said like you decide in each district what you think I means and what that looks like and how you're going to qualify students. So, >> I like that. >> Yeah. Okay. Yeah. >> Big project. >> It's a big project, I'm sure. >> But it's nice to be able to have the opportunity. >> Yeah. Yeah. We have a great crew of parents to work with on this, too, I think. So, I think we'll have some good results. Thank you. >> Well, thank you very much for that. Appreciate it. >> Okay. Well, there's no unfinished business. Well, there's always unfinished business to work on tonight. Um, under new business, um, consider the approval of resolution 7x4 waiver for parent teacher
conference days. Uh, Sally, would you like to? >> Yes. anytime we um have less than 180 school days, we have to apply for a waiver, whichever one applies to our situation. And so um we're putting in a waiver for the two years we have calendars created, which would be this school year and next school year. >> Okay. >> Um and the state approves us. As long as we meet our instructional hours, then we're good to go. You can get a waiver for up to five days for parent teacher conferences. and we have asked for three days for both years um this year and next year. >> All right. Um entertain a motion to approve of this resolution 754. >> I motion. >> I'll second. >> Moved and seconded. Um all those in favor signify by
saying I. >> I opposed. Motion carried. Okay, move on to consider approval of resolution 754 waiver parent teacher conference days the 26 27 year [laughter] the same information >> same thing just a different calendar year we have three days on the calendar for conferences here as well so this waiver would will be good for two years and then the district will need to renew >> we'll entertain a motion to approve m Second move and seconded. Um all those in favor signify by saying I. I >> I opposed. Motion carried. >> Uh consider approval of donation agreement from American Online Giving Foundation. >> Jay, would you like to >> Yeah, I'm guessing this is a actually I'm not certain this. >> So it's um it came to just says to EMS to their ASB. It's for
$3,300. will go into their um ASD account. Outside of that, I >> usually it's a fundraiser of some sort and that's the portion that you can't. But >> okay, >> I can confirm that. >> I just didn't see any paper. >> Oh, there is. Yeah, the donation agreement should be in your donation. >> Oh, okay. Got it. Got it. Thank you. didn't dig down far enough. Okay. So, um we will entertain a motion to approve. >> A second. >> Moved and seconded to approve the donation agreement. Um all those in favor signify by saying I. I. >> I. Opposed. Motion carried. On to superintendent comments. >> Great. Well, first of all, I just wanted to also acknowledge our student representatives. Um, you do your homework before you come here and it's concise and informative and
it's it's very valuable as we listen to what you are living and who you're representing. And there's a little saying that says nothing about us or without us. And so we we appreciate that please. I do want to acknowledge the passing of of one of our students at the high school and it's very somber thing. It's very it's tragic and I I did want to acknowledge that and also um thank everyone who did everything they could to try to support students, the family and and each other in this community uh during this this very difficult time. I wanted to mention that we I wanted to tell give you an update first of all of what's going on out in the stadium. We continue to move pretty quickly. So each Thursday we meet as a construction
team that consists of anywhere from the architect landscape architects uh the construction manager for the for the project uh general contractor and the school district. It's a threeeight plan and I I can pass this down to you but after I finish but basically it's just what's going to happen and I think you've probably seen considerable progress each time almost that you come here. We um we went down 15 and a half inch inches in the esavation in order to get things started. And then once we put in the perimeter curving uh some fencing, uh started pour some concrete and such for the different events such as on the south end of the field, uh javelin and the hold. And uh then we have an area also where we'll be getting the discus on this end.
Uh from there there's a lot of work that needs to be done for the drainage to make sure there's proper drainage with artificial turf. And then you put back the 15 in because if you'll notice the curbing when it starts it's 15 in 15 inches down 15 and a half inches down. When you're done you you get I get I'm learning new terms plerity. need to make sure that it's all the same plane. >> And so we and so [clears throat] now it comes back to 15 inches and it starts with ballast rock that's larger. It's coarse and it goes smaller, smaller. And that's the process that we're in right now. So when you see all the trucks backing up and they're dumping out rock, they're just slowly starting from coarse larger rocks down to
small and eventually get down to sand. It's quite a process. And then then we'll need to put down um an E pad, which is, you know, the the keep our kids safe for impact and such. And then then on goes the turf, but pretty soon we'll start to see turf actually come in town. So, we're really not too far out. Our goal is still to finish this by the end of the of December. And uh so that means that that before long our students will now be enjoying this uh thanks to our voters, our six-year capital projects levy that we voted on. Um and the money starts rolling started rolling in January of this year, then our students will have that. I also wanted to mention that right now in Texas, we have four semi-tractor
trailers full of materials for our stadium that are that are just about ready to ship. And so once we get the footings, the foundation prepared for our stadium which is getting closer all the time. I would guess within this is a guess. I would guess within the next two weeks now that we will have uh we will be given the call to send up these four trucks so they can come and and uh give us all the materials that we stadium. So that's a beautiful thing. Our sports lighting uh should also be coming here um within a few days. Uh it should be delivered tomorrow if all goes well and then it'll start going up and we'll start you'll start to see holes and things again footings being dug for that. So just an awful
lot are our our uh our restrooms ordered. Um the scoreboard is ordered. uh the flag pole thanks to the class of going for that and getting that ordered. Uh so things are moving really pretty quickly now. So by the end of the year we should see the stadium assembled uh if the weather doesn't stop that and you should see the the field completed. Restrooms will be next spring. The lights should be completed by the end of December. The um and the track will not be completed by December because that's dependent on the weather. And the last the very last coning is a rubberized cone that cannot go down except for just great conditions. And that's most likely not going to happen in the winter. It has to be warmer and has to be the right
humidity. But we will be able to practice on our field in the spring sports. We should be able to have spring soccer there. I'll confirm that today. We should be able to do everything on the field as of, you know, after the December 31st if they get it all done. Um the practice should be practiced on. Um the actually events like long jump, whole vault, triple jump, and the others I mentioned, those should be fully functional or the spring uh ceiling. [clears throat] Uh so with the exception of the track, everything should be completed for our students to utilize and that also goes for our community and uh for during the day, our PE classes and such. So um just a lot of moving parts right now. uh that's all coming together and something I
think you can if you look closely out here at the uh in the front to from here the far side of the sign that says Ingville High School and you'll see um you'll see actually a plaque that's placed there. Um, we are the first stop, not highlighted, if you will, for the walking tour. It's a historical walking tour. And I know I've had some people ask, you know, what is going on there? And we did work with them to make sure we got the right placement for that. So, this was a grant from the town of Eatenville in conjunction with some other people like um Mount Tacoma Post 148, American Legion, Eagles, Lions, Masonic Club, and Eatenville Business Association. And thanks to that uh and again, I'll pass this down. Then it's a chance just
to walk around the town and to see what's what happened in Eatenville. How did we become who we are? And again, the number one stop is in front of the high school that that talks about things and and there's a great QR code. I I clicked on it because I was so curious. It talks about the maple trees that are planted down here and their age and what they what they were about and just how it all comes together. So again, I'll pass that down. I could only get one of these, but um I'll make sure this gets passed around as well as I mentioned plan for the trip. >> [clears throat] >> We are really good about getting outside money into the town into our school district. As I mentioned, that's how we got
the stadium. But just today, we wrote four grants. I'm looking at Tracy, right? those >> and uh and so uh and Christa Brandon um these are all grants that are that that are to support us in different ways. Some of it's things with programming and sometimes it's to do with our infrastructure HVAC roots or other energy or those sorts of things. So every time that we get a chance we will be we will be writing grants provided that they benefit us in the end. that there's not that that they're advantageous. We're not just applying for anything. Uh but we're working really hard on that. [clears throat] Sewing machines. We have a full cadre of sewing machines now up at Columbia and u it's full. So now we're waiting for other schools to see if others
want to do something about that hint. Um student reps. [laughter] We still have people that are willing. one of our does anyone know camera machines are [laughter] >> I'm just asking >> sounds like six. [laughter] So this can be they can be utilized after school extracurricular or I suppose I I haven't talked with the principal or anything but you know or possibly during the day but at this point at least extracurricular and um we have the Bethl community services next door who have donated several of those as well as uh the Graham the um Graham Kapowin community council members and so it's nice because we get outside support from other school districts to help us do things the same as we provide support to others. And that's how communities work. We all work together to
find out what each other needs and and what each other has. And when we match those needs and resources, then students and community benefits. So, I wanted to make a mention of that. Um, and then last of all, I just wanted to say congratulations. This is a big deal. Um, I want to make mention that, um, the Edenville School Board is a board of distinction. And what that means is that there's a lot of things that you have to complete and and do in order to become noted. Um, we'll be putting out a a press release once we receive this award and be held at the state conference uh around the 20th to the 22nd of November where we'll all be you'll all be honored. Uh, we were one of 10 small school districts across
the state. So, there are 295 school districts and um so about a third of those are small, about a third of those are medium and about a third are large. and we were one of 10 small school districts across the state. So, it's a big deal, but we're getting outside recognition for that. So, I just want to say congratulations for being awarded distinctions in order to serve with you. Thank you. >> That's awesome. >> Thank you, Jane. [clears throat] Okay, on to board comments. Um this >> um um [laughter] >> every time we get to >> I know no uh no not nothing much right now. Um uh I'm volunteering to run the battle all the books for the elementary school. We have a parent meeting on the 20th. Uh a virtual meeting at night
um 6:30. So, if anybody at home is listening, I don't know if they are or not, or watch it later, look for your social media posts or letters from uh principles and their advertising that way. And I think that's really all I have. Yeah, that's it. That's it. >> All right. Thank you, Travis. >> Okay. Um I again thank you guys for showing up tonight and just your time and just being here. It means a lot. So um thank you to the board and our student reps. Um uh I will hitting back on you really hit home. [laughter] Um now so and you're not the first that um I've heard it's it's odd that even in this week I heard from another student that there's you know a couple stu couple concerns with uh teachers
that you know their their work is not as organic as it can be and the lack of classroom involvement. So, I think it's great that students are speaking up on what would, you know, be in help for them or or the wanting of more organic content and to um uh maybe have more involvement in the classroom and so that hopefully they through this it can be heared and we can um maybe make suggestions and it could be so that that's great. the um I absolutely adore the idea of an anonymous chat with the counselors or something where people because that that I can see how that would hinder a lot of students from you know just not wanting a face with it and just but wanting somebody to talk to. So, we need to work
on that and if we can work together as a board to um just create more safe spaces for kids and and really make it a priority and [clears throat] you know move forward on that because that's that's huge. Um as far as this week with Axel that uh that was tough for everybody. Um my kids lost a friend 10 years ago that you know played football with them and and was a family that was my kids. this is the first student that I've lost, you know, so somebody that I loved on and nurtured and so that that was, you know, it's hard and it's hard to see the classmates and friends that is the students that I remember spending so much time with this student. And so, um, we need to just make sure you
guys are taken care of. That's that's huge.
